Hello again! Just to give an update, I've started packing some food items (canned goods, juice in tetra packs, condiments) and school supplies for tomorrow's distribution. I'm still dividing the vitamins and medicines (for headache, cough, colds, and flu) and IF EVER somebody here still wants to donate, I would highly appreciate. 🙏🏼
The last two photos are the marker of their community and the actual houses where they live, eat, and sleep. Whatever will be packed today will be distributed tomorrow and if ever additional monetary donations come in, we'll set another day to deliver the goods.
Again, thank you so much for sharing. We're very far from our goal but still, we're able to produce and give something for them.
Rice is a staple here in the PH but sadly it's way out of the budget I have now. It was a priority in our food packs but since 31 families are waiting for help, I opted for cheaper food options. If ever $2000 was reached, all Aeta families would have bags of rice. 🙏🏼
I still have time. Please continue sharing and reblogging. Thank you! Deets are in my previous posts. Please check if you're interested. 💜

Excerpt from this Chicago Tribune story:
Evidence is mounting that food packaging and plastic tableware contain toxic chemicals absorbed by humans, a public health risk largely ignored by federal officials charged with protecting the nation’s food supply.
During the past week alone, a new study detailed how more than 3,600 chemicals in food-related materials have been detected in people worldwide.
A companion review of recently published research confirmed 189 chemicals linked to breast cancer have been found in the materials, 76 of which migrate out of packaging and utensils during normal use.
Many of these chemicals were approved decades ago by the Food and Drug Administration with little, if any, oversight.
“Some have never been reviewed by the FDA at all because food and chemical companies are exploiting a loophole that lets them, rather than the FDA, decide whether a chemical is safe,” said Melanie Benesh, vice president for government affairs at the Environmental Working Group, one of several nonprofit organizations that have repeatedly petitioned the agency to ban toxic substances in food and packaging.
Years of legal and political pressure are just now forcing changes in an arm of the government long dominated by industry priorities rather than public health concerns.
After decades of denial, the FDA is vowing to overhaul its review processes and conduct more rigorous reviews of food chemicals already on the market.
Details remain slim. Agency officials cautioned Wednesday their budget to assess chemicals doesn’t come close to the amount necessary to conduct a robust safety program.
Absent further direction from Congress, though, it likely will take years to determine the fate of chemicals that researchers — and in some cases the FDA itself — already have flagged because they are suspected of posing significant health hazards.
One example is bisphenol A, or BPA, a hormone-scrambling chemical used in food can linings, food containers and water bottles. BPA has been linked to birth defects and behavior disorders in infants and children. In adults, the chemical can trigger diabetes, heart disease, erectile dysfunction, cancer and early death.
Other than banning BPA in baby bottles and infant formula cans, FDA officials have said the chemical is safe for approved uses. But in 2021, the European Union determined BPA is harmful at levels far below what once was considered safe. A year later nonprofit groups petitioned the U.S. food safety agency to take action; the FDA has yet to respond.

[Image description: grocery store display on bananas, with a sign advertising that they are "premium boneless bananas." description ends]
I think whoever made that sign had this British dance hall / novelty song (1936) stuck in their head (I'm sorry, and/or your welcome)
youtube
obviously im of the belief that labelling food abd the ingredients it contains as clearly as possible is really good practice, and i highly approve of it
but the specific sense of comedy thats invoked in you when you look at a dish that is almost entirely a certain ingredient and theres a little sign next to it that reads “THIS ITEM CONTAINS [INGREDIENT]” is something that cannot be ignored

The Role of Innovative Packaging for Food Products in Ensuring Quality and Sustainability
Effective packaging for food products plays a critical role in maintaining food safety, enhancing shelf life, and appealing to consumers. From protecting contents to improving sustainability, the choice of packaging impacts food businesses profoundly. This article delves into the importance of food packaging, types of materials, and modern trends shaping the industry.
Tumblr media
1. Importance of Packaging for Food Products
1.1 Preserving Freshness and Preventing Contamination
Proper packaging for food products ensures that food stays fresh for longer, protecting it from exposure to air, moisture, and harmful microorganisms. This is particularly important for perishable items such as dairy, baked goods, and fresh produce.
1.2 Enhancing Safety and Hygiene
Food packaging acts as a barrier against physical damage, contamination, and spoilage. It is essential to ensure that packaging complies with Australian food safety standards to guarantee hygiene.
1.3 Influencing Consumer Decisions
The visual appeal and functionality of packaging for food products significantly influence purchasing behaviour. Modern consumers are drawn to packaging that combines aesthetics with usability.
2. Types of Packaging for Food Products
2.1 Plastic Packaging
Plastic is one of the most common materials due to its versatility and affordability. It offers options like vacuum-sealed pouches, resealable bags, and food-grade containers. However, the environmental impact of traditional plastic has spurred the need for biodegradable alternatives.
2.2 Glass and Metal Containers
Glass jars and metal tins are excellent choices for preserving food quality, particularly for premium and long-lasting products. They are recyclable and offer an upscale presentation for products such as jams, sauces, and coffee.
2.3 Paper and Cardboard
Paper-based packaging is lightweight, cost-effective, and customisable. It is widely used for dry foods like cereals and snacks. Businesses focused on eco-friendliness often prefer compostable or recycled cardboard packaging.
3. Trends in Packaging for Food Products
3.1 Emphasis on Sustainability
Eco-friendly packaging for food products is gaining traction as consumers demand reduced environmental impact. Innovations include biodegradable materials, plant-based plastics, and reusable containers.
3.2 Smart Packaging
Technology is now integrated into food packaging. QR codes, temperature indicators, and freshness sensors enhance convenience and transparency for consumers.
3.3 Minimalist Design
Simplicity and elegance in packaging design appeal to modern consumers, who favour clutter-free and easy-to-read labels.
4. Choosing the Right Packaging for Food Products
4.1 Consider the Nature of the Food
Understand the specific needs of your product. Perishable items require airtight packaging, while snack foods benefit from resealable options.
4.2 Balance Functionality and Sustainability
While aesthetics are important, ensure your packaging provides practical benefits such as ease of use and eco-friendliness.
4.3 Meet Regulatory Standards
Australian food safety regulations require clear labelling, proper seals, and food-grade materials for packaging for food products. Adherence is crucial to maintain consumer trust.
Conclusion
Innovative and sustainable packaging for food products is vital for maintaining quality, enhancing customer experience, and meeting modern consumer expectations. By choosing the right packaging solutions, businesses can protect their products, build brand loyalty, and support environmental goals.

Why do we see all packaging as disposable?
As soon as you buy something with the word "reusable" in it new, you've lost the plot.
When I buy veggies and fruit at the grocery, I do put them in plastic produce baggies from the grocery store. But they are the same ones I've used for the last four months. I store them, I don't throw them away. When the bottom gives out, I just tie a knot and keep using them.
I keep yogurt containers and use them for everything. I keep food, art supplies, loose tea, hair ties, pre-prepped food, even silverware in yogurt containers. I have a waterproof first aid kit in a yogurt container. What do you do when you have too many yogurt containers? You fill them with soup and give them to your elderly neighbors, or you fill them with toiletries and give them to the homeless.
You have bread bags? Bring them to the farmer's market for produce. That plastic netting from fruit bags? Keep it. Stuff it into another small mesh bag, and you have a dish scrubber. Those berry containers stack so nicely. When I go on vacation I keep my soap and washcloth in them. I rinse my plastic bags, the ones I keep raw meat in are labelled as such. I made a full set of bookshelves out of cardboard boxes and paper tape.
I am a trash gremlin. There is no container I can't find a use for.

Benefits Of Using Oxygen Absorbents for Food Packaging
One of the major challenges that the packaged food industry faces is keeping the food fresh for a long time. Since the packaged food is instant and is supposed to be consumed right out of the packaging, it must retain its authentic taste and texture.  Many food companies are now using oxygen absorbents in their food packaging. When your food comes in contact with oxygen, it can start to rot…
