On a street in the middle of 2 small homes worth between $350 - $475k, they built this 2024 modern house on a 6,098 sq ft lot in Greenville, SC, and priced it at $5.25m. 6bds, 6ba, 5,700 sq ft. They must be out their minds. So, let's see what you get for $5.25m.
Tumblr media
There's hardly any land, but you've got a porch out front. The listing says it's "reflecting its unique status in the area." Well, that's one way to look at it. My dream job would be writing bullshit fiction real estate descriptions.
Tumblr media
No grand entrance, you walk right into the living room. The listing says, "Step inside through a 9-foot entry door, flanked by gas lanterns, to discover a sanctuary of design innovation."
Tumblr media
Open living room/kitchen floor plan w/a mezzanine. I don't see a formal dining room, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Fisher & Paykel appliances, custom European cabinetry, and quartz countertops in a show-stopping kitchen." I must be a real peasant, I've never heard of those appliances.
Tumblr media
"Low-iron glass railings at a dramatic 42” height for uninterrupted views."
Tumblr media
The primary bedroom is kind of plain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't like "wet baths"- with the tub inside the shower.
Tumblr media
Secondary bedroom. All bedrooms have heated floors.
Tumblr media
The bathrooms feature smart toilets and bidets.
Tumblr media
This may be a home gym that's actually one of the 6 bedrooms, b/c it has an ensuite.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Guest powder room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"A residential elevator with glass doors and a full-size cab."
Tumblr media
This is an entertaining floor w/a kitchenette.
Tumblr media
Nice laundry room w/a mirrored tile backsplash.
Tumblr media
B/c there's no land or yard to speak of, the listing says, "With a covered front porch, private decks on every level, and an exclusive rooftop experience, this home redefines outdoor living." Yes, it does redefine outdoor living.
Tumblr media
"A custom-built outdoor kitchen and space for an 80” screen." (What?)
Tumblr media
"A private home theater, climate-controlled and insulated with Rockwool for superior soundproofing." WTH is Rockwool?
Tumblr media
This isn't a patio, it's the driveway outside of the garage. "Garage Goals: The oversized garage is more than functional – it’s a versatile space for entertaining, working, or hosting events. Featuring curated floors, insulated walls, ceiling speakers, and four EV chargers, this is a garage designed to impress." They have a lot to say about a space they don't show.
Tumblr media
This is the last house that was approved to be 3 floors high in the city of Greenville.

Within hours of Luigi Mangione being charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on Monday, online stores were flooded with T-shirts, hoodies, mugs, stickers, and other merchandise praising the alleged shooter and featuring phrases like: “In this house, Luigi Mangione is a hero. End of story.”
On Etsy, WIRED found almost 100 listings featuring products with Mangione’s name or image. These include a tote bag featuring pictures of the alleged shooter alongside the phrase “Mama, I’m in love with a criminal” and PDF copies of a mocked-up cover of Time magazine featuring Mangione as Person of the Year and the tagline “Healthcare revolutionary, leading the charge to transform global health.”
These sellers are trying to cash in on the internet’s peculiar fascination with Mangione, whose good looks and privileged background have garnered him fans despite him being accused of a high-profile murder in broad daylight. The fascination with Mangione is a worrying trend, researchers say, that shows behavior that used to be confined to the fringes of the internet becoming mainstream.
Much of the merchandise is being sold by print-on-demand websites, which allow anyone to design and sell a range of products. On one such site, called My Porch Prints, one seller is offering a mug featuring a heart-shaped image of a topless Mangione alongside the words “I love my boyfriend.” A number of print-on-demand merchants are selling a stylized version of the Luigi character from Nintendo's Mario video games holding a gun and wearing a green hoodie. Another hoodie available on multiple online stores, including one called Chill Guy, features an image of Mangione surrounded by love hearts.
There are also multiple different T-shirts and hoodies being sold on sites like Nobele T-Shirt, featuring designs with the phrase “Free Luigi” on them, while many others use the phrase “Deny, Defend, Depose, the words Mangione allegedly inscribed on some ammunition.
Finally, a T-shirt featuring the McDonald’s logo with the word Mangione superimposed on it is also being sold online by custom gift shop ModParty, referring to the fact Mangione was captured after staff at the fast food restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania, identified him and called the police.
Etsy, My Porch Prints, Chill Guy, Noble T-Shirts, and ModParty did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
This unusual situation meant that as internet sleuths worked to discover as much information about Mangione as possible, platforms such as YouTube and Instagram were working to shut down his accounts. X initially shut down Mangione’s account, but after CEO Elon Musk said he was "looking into it" the account was restored.
Google was also forced to remove reviews of the McDonald’s where Mangione was identified on Monday, after Mangione supporters review-bombed it with negative comments and one-star reviews.
Before his identity was revealed on Monday, his online supporters, primarily on TikTok, Bluesky, and X, had created an entire fictionalized version of the shooter as a left-wing revolutionary hero who was standing up for the millions of Americans whose lives have been impacted negatively by interactions with the health care system.
Videos glorifying the killer flooded TikTok, while one person decided to get a tattoo of the alleged shooter’s face. In Washington Square Park in New York City, a look-alike competition was held on Saturday.
Indeed, “Deny, Defend, Depose,” which is widely viewed as a pointed critique of the health insurance industry in America, has become a rallying cry online in recent days as the focus moved away from the shooting itself and onto the shooter and his motives.
However, the fictionalized version of the shooter that was created online does not match reality. Mangione, who allegedly had a handwritten manifesto admitting to the killing in his possession when arrested, is a software engineer from a privileged background. He also follows popular right-wing influencers, such as Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, and Jordan Peterson—though he has also criticized some of the arguments put forward by these figures.
During a brief court appearance on Monday night, the police did not outline a motive for the shooting, but based on Mangione’s online posts and reading lists, it appears that the pain from an injury suffered while surfing could have played a significant part in his motivation.
Despite Mangione not fitting the idealized hero that many online created in the time between the shooting and his arrest, the alleged shooter’s fans have continued to post fan fiction about him.
On Archive of Our Own, a repository of fan fiction, half a dozen pieces of prose about Mangione were posted in the hours after he was identified. In one piece entitled “McGuire Road Designated Dispersed Campsite,” an author with the username basedIdiot imagines Mangione and another man on a road trip trying to escape from New York. “‘Oh, am I not your beloved?’ Luigi Mangione mockingly fainted into the other man’s arms,” the author wrote.
In another, an anonymous author imagines Mangione in Texas where he is planning to assassinate Tesla, SpaceX, and X CEO Elon Musk, inscribing the bullets he was going to use to kill the billionaire. “For Musk, he’s kept it simple. X. X. And lastly, X. Mocking goodbye kisses,” the author wrote. “But also a reference to one spoilt, psychotic rich brat’s latest 44-billion-dollar toy to break.”
Another imagines the suspect as the author’s lover while at the University of Pennsylvania, where Mangione studied engineering. “Luigi Mangione turns to you,” writes an author with the username Princesscockdestroyer, who claims she’s writing this fan fiction during her final exams. “He mouths ‘I love you’ then takes off down the street. As you watch him disappear from you, from your life, from any promise of a future together, you can’t help but finally realize that you love him too.”
One of the posts imagines Mangione hooking up with a K-pop star in a motel in Ohio while on the run.
On TikTok, videos with images of Mangione’s smiling face, featuring the Britney Spears song “Criminal,” are also racking up tens of thousands of views, while hundreds of videos with the hashtag TeamLuigi have been posted on TikTok in the hours after Mangione was arrested.
A report published last week by the Network Contagion Research Institute called the phenomenon of online accounts glorifying the shooter as a “cause for concern,” pointing out that it mimics the type of response typically seen on fringe platforms like 4chan and 8chan in the wake of mass shootings.
“While this phenomenon was once largely confined to niche online subcultures, we are now witnessing similar dynamics emerging on mainstream platforms, amplifying the risk of further escalation,” the report’s authors wrote.

What are the considerations for a screened-in porch?
A screened-in porch is a fantastic addition to any home, blending the comfort of indoor living with the beauty of the outdoors. It creates a peaceful retreat where you can enjoy fresh air without dealing with pesky insects or unpredictable weather. However, choosing the right patio enclosure requires careful planning to ensure it suits your needs, complements your home’s aesthetic, and enhances its overall value.
Types of Patio Enclosures
Understanding the different patio enclosure options helps you make an informed decision. Here’s a breakdown of the most popular choices:
Screened-In Porches
These enclosures consist of a sturdy frame—typically made of wood or metal—with mesh screens that allow fresh air in while keeping bugs out.
Benefits:
Enhanced ventilation
Protection from insects
Cost-effective solution
Considerations:
Limited protection against rain and cold weather
Requires regular maintenance to prevent wear and tear
For homeowners seeking a seamless blend of indoor comfort and outdoor exposure, screen enclosures offer an ideal solution. Explore custom screen enclosures here.
Glass Enclosures (Sunrooms)
These structures are enclosed with glass panels, allowing for plenty of natural light while protecting against the elements.
Benefits:
Usable year-round
Unobstructed outdoor views
Increases home value
Considerations:
Higher installation costs
May require climate control systems
Local building permits might be needed
A well-designed sunroom not only extends your living space but also creates a bright and inviting environment for year-round enjoyment. Discover custom sunroom options here.
Vinyl Enclosures
Combining elements of both screen and glass enclosures, vinyl panels can be adjusted to control airflow and protection.
Benefits:
Adaptability to different weather conditions
More affordable than full glass enclosures
Easy maintenance
Considerations:
Less durable than glass
May discolor over time
Limited insulation properties
Aluminum Enclosures
These enclosures feature an aluminum frame with options for screen or glass panels, known for their durability.
Benefits:
Low maintenance
Rust and corrosion-resistant
Sturdy yet lightweight
Considerations:
Can conduct heat, affecting interior comfort
May not be as visually appealing as wood
Limited customization options
Key Considerations When Choosing a Patio Enclosure
To ensure your screened-in porch or enclosure meets your expectations, consider the following factors:
Purpose and Usage
Define how you plan to use the space—whether for relaxing, dining, or as a children’s play area. Your intended purpose will help determine the best enclosure type.
Climate
Your local weather conditions play a crucial role in selecting the right enclosure. Glass enclosures work well in colder climates, while screened porches are ideal for warm regions.
Budget
Establish a budget that covers materials, installation, and ongoing maintenance. Screened-in porches are often the most affordable option, while glass enclosures may require additional investment.
Aesthetic Appeal
Your patio enclosure should complement your home’s architectural style. Whether you prefer a rustic wooden frame or a sleek aluminum finish, choosing the right design enhances curb appeal.
Material Selection
Different materials offer varying levels of durability and maintenance requirements. Wood provides a classic look but requires upkeep, while aluminum offers longevity with minimal maintenance.
Local Regulations
Before installation, check local building codes and homeowner association rules to ensure compliance. Some enclosures, like three-season rooms, may require permits. Learn more about three-season room solutions here.
Benefits of a Patio Enclosure
Investing in a patio enclosure comes with numerous advantages:
Extended Living Space – Adds usable square footage to your home for various activities.
Increased Property Value – A well-designed enclosure enhances your home’s market appeal.
Protection from Elements – Shields you from UV rays, insects, and unpredictable weather.
Energy Efficiency – Certain enclosures improve insulation, reducing energy costs.
Conclusion
A screened-in porch or patio enclosure can transform your outdoor space into a versatile and comfortable extension of your home. By evaluating factors like climate, budget, and usage, you can choose the best enclosure to suit your needs.

Hongjoong x Reader
Word Count: 3,339
One Shot
When you find yourself on overload, you want to shut the world out. But there's no way you could ever shut out Hongjoong.
♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦♢♦
There are days when you need to shut the world out, be left alone and just exist. Work has been extra hard, in part from picking up extra shifts to try and have money for vacation, but the day has been very rough. Nonstop customers, loud noises and conversations, and all of it had eaten into you like a parasite, a headache forming and nearing an overload on your body’s senses. Your drive home is silent to try and combat it, knuckles white on the wheel of the car. All you want is to get home, change and block every other thing out. You make the drive with anxiety high, park your car in its designated covered spot, and head up the stairs to your apartment, thumb rubbing at your temple in hopes to ease the worsening pain in your skull. Stopping at the railing where the stairs end and your large porch area begins, you let yourself lean against the metal to rub at your temples with a grumbled sigh. A soft meow catches your attention, and looking up, you see your cat Lunabelle sitting on the windowsill watching you.
“Luna, get out of the window, it’s open.” you scold her, but your own words give you pause. You were certain the windows were closed when you left for work “Why is the window open?” Turning towards your door, you lift your keys to unlock it as it opens on its own, revealing a mess of blue hair and dark eyes. You’re caught off guard in your already pained state, so it doesn’t immediately register that your boyfriend is standing in front of you. “Wait…Hongjoong?” “Y/N? Baby, what’s wrong? Why are you just standing outside?” Hongjoong asks, only for a horn to start blaring across the parking lot the moment after he speaks. The noise is so sudden that it makes you drop your bag and keys, hands covering your ears with a quiet whine as your eyes close.
“Just a very bad day...” you manage with tears in your voice, hating that he’s home only for you to be having a terrible day. The sound of keys makes you open your eyes, only to see Hongjoong has lifted your dropped items and is slinging the strap of your bag onto his shoulder. When he moves to stand in front of you, you can’t help but watch him as he lifts his hands to gently take hold of your wrists and ease your arms down.
“Migraine?” he asks.
“Not yet.”
“Is it getting to that point?” He lets your wrists go to reach forward and cup your face with his hands, looking your face over with concern in his eyes. You nod a few times in response as he does so, letting him start urging you towards the door.
“Are you in overload?”
“Not really, it’s mostly just the noise right now.” You answer, moving forward to press into him, tucking your face into his neck.
“Come on, darling. I’ve got you.” Hongjoong assures, leading you inside and closing the front door. “Sit on the couch for me?” He asks, and you do so as he goes around, closing the windows he’d apparently opened when he’d arrived, shooing Lunabelle out of the window and rolling his eyes as the cat meows in dissent and goes to her cat tree to perch in one of the beds. The room slowly dims as Hongjoong closes the curtains and then returns to where you sit.
“When did you get here, Joong?”
“I’ve only been home for like an hour or two.” Hongjoong replies, moving to kneel in front of you with his current task complete. “How’s your head?”
“A six?”
“Okay, go get some pajamas, I’ll get a shower going.”
“Joong, you don’t-” You’re cut off by Hongjoong sealing his lips over yours and can’t help but lean into the contact, unable to keep the smile from curving your lips as he pulls away.
“I know I don’t have to do it, Y/N. I want to. Let me take care of you, okay?” he asks, hands cupping your face as he stares into your eyes. “Go get some pajamas, meet me in the bathroom.”
You don’t have it in you to argue with him when your head is trying to put you out of commission, so instead you lean forward to take another kiss from him. “Shower with me?”
“That was the intention, precious.” he answers, standing and holding out a hand to you. “Come on.” He helps you stand, and you walk together down the hall. He dips into the bathroom but leaves the door open while you walk into the bedroom to gather some clothes. You watch him from the hall as he starts the water, smiling before going to your room to gather your clothes. Opting for a thinner fabric nightgown and underwear, you find your way back to the bathroom, leaning on the doorframe for a moment as you set your fresh clothes on the counter. Hongjoong has the lights at a dimmer setting, four candles lit and placed along the back of the counter. The room has a delightful mix of storm rain, eucalyptus and mint mingling with the faint steam of the shower. It takes a few moments for your eyes to fully adjust, your body relaxing as you close the door behind you. Hongjoong is humming to himself as he tests the water, shirt already forgotten and jeans hanging low on his waist. You take the time to admire him, never getting tired of the way he looks. You’re stepping from your clothes and setting them in a small pile when he turns, his lips curving as he holds out a hand. “Come on, it’s just how you like it.”
You can’t help the blush on your cheeks as he takes you in, a part of you always shy under his gaze. Your hand slips into his and he helps you step into the shower, stepping under the spray before shaking your head a little when something isn’t the same. “What on earth?” Wiping water from your face, you look up to find a new shower attached. “Joong? What is-”
“I know sometimes the pressure is too hard for when you have migraines.” Hongjoong replied, stepping in behind you and reaching to show you where the little knob is to change the flow. “So I got you a new shower head with more settings, that way you’re not in more pain trying to shower.”
The overwhelming emotion in your chest makes you turn, hands locking behind his neck so you can pull him in for a kiss. When you pull back to look at him, your fingers run through his dampening hair. "Have I told you I love you today?"
Hongjoong's laugh is music to your ears, and he leans to steal another kiss. "You don't need to tell me, baby. But it doesn't mean I mind hearing it." You tuck your face into his neck for a moment, letting the hot water relax you further into his embrace. "Come on, let me clean you up."
"Only if I can cuddle you after." You counter with a smile, lifting your head to kiss his cheek.
"I think that can be arranged." Hongjoong replies, tapping your nose with his finger as he turns to get your loofah and put his body wash on it.
"Hongjoong?"
"Yes?"
"What did I do to deserve you in my life?" It isn't an uncommon question, but you haven't asked it in some time. His answer is marked with the same beginning, however; that gentle smile and his lips against your forehead.
"You were yourself with me. With the team. Unapologetically, beautifully yourself." The loofah in his hand is now lathered up and he starts by washing at your front, focused on bathing you. You let your eyes close as he takes care of you. His hands rinse out the loofah before guiding you back under the water so he can rinse the suda away from your skin. He pauses for a moment, but before you can ask him what's wrong, the water heats up more and you chuckle.
"You always take care of me, baby."
"I'm supposed to, I am your boyfriend after all." Hongjoong counters as he adjusts the water again and moves to turn you around, his hands beginning to gently massage along the base of your head. He takes his time as his works his way down and to one shoulder. You can feel the way he edges the pain in your muscles away, and a sigh passes your lips as he works the knots out with gentle concentration. You focus on the feeling of his hands and the gentle sound of the water falling around you, the pain that had been building in your skull starts to dissipate.
"I love you."
"I love you, too." Hongjoong answers, dipping to press a kiss to your shoulder. "Are you feeling better?" You don't need to see the loving smile on his face, but you hum an assent with a nod. He continues the massage down lower, stopping when pressure near your lower back has a soft yelp escaping you. "What's wrong with your back?"
"I don't know, honestly. It's been really stiff for a few days and I can't figure out how to work the muscles loose." You admit, biting your lower lip because you don't like Hongjoong worrying about you. When he applies pressure again, your body arches away a little.
"You probably need a break. How many days off have you had?" Your silence makes him pause and rest his chin on your shoulder. "Y/N?"
"I…I don't remember when my last full off day was." You make yourself admit, eyes closing in defeat.
"Are you scheduled tomorrow?"
"No, as long as I don't get called in."
"No, you will not go in tomorrow."
"But Hongjoong-"
"You need to rest. I am going to make sure you do just that." It's the authority in his voice that makes you turn to look at him, blinking a little.
"But you have practice, Joong."
"The guys will understand if I miss a practice to take care of you." Hongjoong answers, cupping your face again. "And I will always take care of you." After weeks apart for the group's promotional teasers and the photoshoots, you just need to share the same space with him, so you opt to lean against him for a long moment. "I love you, Y/N."
"I love you, too, Kim Hongjoong."
He moves to squeeze shampoo into his hand, fingers massaging the liquid into your hair to wash it. Letting him wash your hair lets your mind go blank for a bit. Things are always easy with him, the two of you always taking care of each other. The two of you don't need continuous sexual intimacy, just sitting together can be enough. You focus on the feeling of his hands in your hair, eyes closing as he works the shampoo in before reaching to detach the shower head so he can rinse your hair better. “Is it your conditioning day?”
“No, that’s tomorrow.” you reply, pausing a moment when the shower is turned off. “What about you?”
“I took a shower when I got home.” Hongjoong replies, leaning to press his lips to yours as he slides the shower door open.
“You literally got undressed just to bathe me?” You ask, giving your boyfriend a look.
“It’s the little things, baby.” Hongjoong counters, handing you a towel as you step from the shower. He wraps another around his waist, watching you dry off before handing you a smaller towel for your hair.
“Thank you,” You smile as you wrap the fabric around your hair, moving purposefully so as not to aggravate your back any more than necessary. When you manage to get your pajamas on, you reach out to pull Hongjoong towards you so you can kiss him properly. He returns the gesture before tapping the tip of his finger on your nose.
“Go get comfortable, okay? I’ll be there in a minute.” he insists, cupping one of your cheeks in his hand. You lean into the touch before nodding and stepping out to go to your room, moving to lay on your side, trying not to move in a way that hurts your already sore lower back. You’re able to listen as Hongjoong goes about the apartment, talking to Lunabelle even as the cat undoubtedly tried to make him fill her still half-full bowl. You hear the familiar sound of cups clinking, realizing he’s making tea. Not wanting him to be alone, though also just needing the comfort of his presence, you get up and walk out and join him. Lunabelle meows when she spots you, hopping up onto the breakfast bar that divides the kitchen from the living room. You reach up to pet her as you perch on one of the chairs. The sound is enough to draw Hongjoong’s attention from his current task, and while he gives you a look, he doesn’t scold you playfully as he would his members. Rather, he walks over to kiss your nose on his way to the living room, where he pulls a blanket from the large wicker basket by the chaise. He unfolds it as he walks back to you, draping the plush around your shoulders. “Three sugars, right?”
“Always. You know me so well.” You adjust the blanket to better enshroud your body, watching him as he moves about the kitchen with ease.
“I would hope so, after over a year.” Hongjoong answers, setting both of your cups up. He’s humming quietly to himself, and you’re sure that at some point, you’ll hear the track it’s connected to.
“How long are you here?”
“We wrapped up filming yesterday.” Hongjoong isn’t facing you, mixing the teas. “Got off the flight this morning and headed to the dorms. I only stayed long enough to drop my stuff off and gather a bag before I asked Yunho to bring me home.” His words are casual, but you can hear the smile in his tone.
“Y’know, technically the dorms are home.” you tease with a smile of your own.
“The dorm doesn’t have you.'' The counter reply doesn’t miss a beat, spoon set on a napkin as Hongjoong turns to bring your cups over, setting your favorite mug on the counter in front of you. “And I love the guys, but I love you more, Y/N.”
The words catch you off guard for a moment, but not because he’s never said them. Hongjoong tends to show his love in his actions. Flowers delivered to the restaurant where you work, little notes left on cards tucked through the mailslot, text messages of endearment each day when the two of you are apart for more than a few days. Hearing it isn’t necessary, but when you do hear it, it makes you feel like the most special person in the room.
“I love you, too.” You reply, lifting your cup to lightly sip at the hot liquid. “Everyone is going to be coming over at some point, right?”
“Hwa wants to do a live when he wakes up, but it’ll probably be tomorrow. Wooyoung was whining about missing you and Luna.”
“Of course he was, the chaos bubble.” You laugh a little to yourself, but you can’t say you don't miss the antics Wooyoung is capable of, especially when San is around. A single ice cube finds its way into the tea from a pair of small tongs held by your boyfriend, and you chuckle. “You spoil me, Joong.”
“As only you should be.” Hongjoong replied. “You deserve to be taken care of, even if you think you need to do it alone.” His fingers find your hair and pet through the damp strands, watching you as if you hung the moon. “And whether you like it or not, I will continue to spoil you until the day you believe me, and even after.” The two of you laugh a little, you nuzzle into his neck affectionately before you move to get up. “Couch?” he asks, helping you nudge the blanket off and carrying it as the two of you go to the couch. When he sits, you join him, curling into his warmth and letting your head rest on his shoulder. The blanket is brought up to cover you with one hand, his opposite arm wrapping around you. Once the two of you are settled into each other, he picks up the remote from the side table to go through and turn on the show the two of you had been watching. It’s a comforting time, neither of you being pressured to do anything more than just exist with the other. The stress of the day is basically forgotten, tucked into the safety of Hongjoong’s arms and the quiet noise of Luna purring from her perch on the back of the couch. After a few episodes, both of your phones go off, and you let Hongjoong sit up to grab his phone.
“Is it Hwa?” you ask, adjusting so you can watch Hongjoong’s phone with him. He nods as you both settle again, watching a still sleep dazed Seonghwa as he sips at a soda and begins talking. Dark hair is combed, but you’ve been around the member often enough that you can recognize the delay in the eldest member’s reaction as the comment section floods. At one point, San appears carrying food, and you can’t help the quiet laugh that escapes you because you know the younger men so well.
“They must have ordered food and then woke him up when it got there.” Hongjoong voices your thoughts with a laugh of his own, shaking his head a little.
You watch the antics as San settles in by the older man, the two chatting with each other and fans as they eat. San talks faster when he gets excited, so it’s a struggle for you to translate at times, but you manage to keep up. Despite wanting to watch the stream, you find yourself dozing against Hongjoong, slowly losing the ability to stay on track with what the guys are saying. A kiss to your head brings you more focused and your head tilts back so you can look at Hongjoong sleepily. “Hm?”
“Let’s go to bed. You need the rest for your head, and I haven’t slept since we landed this morning.” Hongjoong muses, nudging you up so he can take the blanket and pile it on top of the ones already in the basket. You don’t fight him as he helps you stand, lacing his fingers through yours and walking with you to the bedroom. Rather than turn on the overhead light, he reaches to press the button just above the switch, fairy lights spark to life in a dimmed setting around the top corners of the room. It’s just enough light to see by, and you make your way to the bed, pulling back the blankets to lay down. Hongjoong walks around the bed to pull the other side back, but he walks back around towards the door. “Hongjoong?” you ask, catching his attention.
“I’m just gonna turn the lights off, I’ll be right back.” he assured, leaning over to kiss you. “Just get comfortable, okay?” You let him go, curling into the chilled sheets. You recognize the sound of the lights being turned off, and sure enough, he returns to the room. It takes just a few moments for him to turn the string of lights off and join you, tugging at your hand gently until your head is on his chest. The sound of his heart beating makes you smile and one arm drapes over his waist.
“I love you.”
“I love you too. Now get some rest, baby. I’ll be here when you wake up.”

Sakura nervously looked at the neatly wrapped present she had in her hands, then to the door that loomed in front of her. Her heart pounded against her chest. She felt so silly being so nervous about simply knocking on the door. But Sakura just had the habit of overthinking things. What if he’s annoyed by her visit? Or hate the gift she got him? She had been planning the gift for over a month. Winter has hit the village hard this year. Thick snow covered the ground. It’s the coldest winter Sakura has experienced in a long time. So… She got Sasuke a custom made sweater. He always preferred useful gifts over nonsensical gifts that would simply take up space in his home. That’s why she got him the sweater, and then hand knitted the scarf for him. It wasn’t perfect. Sakura was never good at artsy things like knitting and sewing but with Hinata’s help, she was able to make something at least functional.  The sweater was a dark blue color, with the Uchiha crest on the back of it. The front was decorated with white, diamond shaped designs across the chest. It was made of a soft, warm material. Sakura didn’t realize it until the sweater was already made that it matched her own sweater. Hers being red with the Haruno crest in the back. She hoped he didn’t mind that, or think she intentionally did it. Reminded her of how uncreative she was.  It was a known secret that Sakura had feelings for him. She loved him. But she never pushed her feelings onto him. It was hard to tell how he felt about her. He wasn’t the easiest person to read but she didn’t mind. Sasuke clearly didn’t hate her, and that’s good enough for her. Oh no… What if he thought she was forcing her feelings onto him with this gift? A whole new worry danced through her brain. Sakura quickly shook her head, pushing all those thoughts away. Taking a deep breath, and letting it out in a puff of mist from the cold. She wasn’t about to let her anxieties cause Sasuke to celebrate by himself!  Not allowing herself to dwell more on her own thoughts any longer, Sakura marched forward towards the door and knocked on it. The moment the door opened, Sakura held out the messily wrapped present with a blush on her face, “M-merry Christmas, Sasuke! I… I didn’t want you to celebrate by yourself. I hope you like it, I put a lot of thought into it.” She stammered a bit, her cheeks going from pink to almost the same red color as her sweater. // @hana-akari
Keeping track of time was something that Sasuke began to struggle with post Fourth-shinobi war. It was an unintentional side effect spurred on by the mishandling of his repressed trauma. He could recognize and understand the date, the day of the week, but as far as truly considering the time of year, the season, or any important historical markings, it often slipped by him, unnoted.
He didn't consider it a big deal. Outside of his assigned tasks, no one expected anything of him, anyways. Appear when needed, fuck off when not. For years, he had hardly been around, so its not like his absence is regarded unless something happened pertaining to him or his deeds.
On this particular night, Sasuke sat perched on his back porch, overseeing the lake that sat in the center of the abandoned Uchiha Estate, sitting with himself and a mug of warm tea. The steam swirled into curls and dissipated into the chilly evening air. Perfect conditions for a perfect night.
He sat with his thoughts, thinking over and over about nothing that was important anymore; daydreaming about a life he'll never live, fixing things that can never be fixed. At this point, it was routine and he was living it.
Was routine— then the door knocked.
The Uchiha thought that he was hearings things again, but when he came to his senses, he felt the dense layer of chakra standing behind the door, which pulled a deep, exasperated sigh from him. Wasn't he off tonight? What could they possibly want?
Standing from his spot, he did not have his usual cloak; just a black turtleneck and his usual black pants. This was him being immodest, but he answered the door anyways not caring if he appeared unprepared.
"Look- oh," his stern, unfriendly tone died at the realization and, suddenly, he cleared his throat," Sakura... I wasn't expecting you."
Merry Christmas, Sasuke. Her vibrant voice called to him with all the warmth one could never get during cold months like this.
The unexpected kindness hit him square in the chest and kickstarted his heart, nearly edging a cough out of him.
"Please, come inside," he ushered her in and close the door behind, so none of the cold air trailed.
In her hands was a wrapped gift, prepared with love no less, and there he stood with nothing in return. He wasn't going to beat himself up over it, how would he know?
"You didn't have to gift me anything," he said first before a thought crossed his mind, then adding," you... aren't worried with being alone with me?"
Sasuke paused, feeling stupid for mentioning that at all, but it'd be a lie to say that it didn't run through this mind at all. Especially whenever she was in proximity to him. The way people would jeer and loudly warn him about his involvement of her, even if he was not meeting with her at all, save for his job. Though, hopefully she won't catch on to whatever he was yammering about as he vanished into the kitchen to also prepare her a mug of the same tea he was enjoying. At least the pot was still fresh.

Top Trends in Custom Home Design: Insights from Expert Builders
Tumblr media
In the realm of custom home construction, the landscape of design is ever-evolving, shaped by innovation, lifestyle preferences, and technological advancements. Expert builders are at the forefront of these changes, continuously integrating new trends to create homes that not only meet but exceed the expectations of their clients. From energy efficiency to bespoke features, here are the top trends in custom home design, as revealed by seasoned builders.
Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Design: In an era increasingly focused on sustainability, energy-efficient design has become a cornerstone of custom home construction. Builders are incorporating features such as solar panels, high-performance insulation, and energy-efficient appliances to minimize environmental impact and reduce utility costs for homeowners. From passive solar design to smart home technology, these innovations not only enhance energy efficiency but also elevate the overall quality of life within the home.
Open Concept Floor Plans: Gone are the days of compartmentalized living spaces. Today's homeowners crave open, flowing floor plans that promote connectivity and a sense of spaciousness. Expert builders are responding to this demand by designing homes with expansive great rooms, seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor living areas, and strategically placed windows to maximize natural light. This trend not only enhances functionality but also creates a modern aesthetic that aligns with contemporary lifestyles.
Multi-Functional Spaces: As the line between work, leisure, and relaxation continues to blur, custom home builders are prioritizing the creation of multi-functional spaces that cater to diverse needs. Home offices that seamlessly blend into living areas, flex rooms that can serve as guest quarters or entertainment spaces, and outdoor living areas equipped for year-round enjoyment are just a few examples of this trend. By designing spaces that can adapt to evolving lifestyle demands, builders are ensuring that homes remain relevant and functional for years to come.
Timeless and Transitional Design Elements: While trends come and go, timeless design remains a constant in custom home construction. Expert builders are incorporating elements of classic design, such as clean lines, neutral color palettes, and quality materials, to create homes that exude elegance and sophistication. Additionally, transitional design—a blend of traditional and contemporary styles—is gaining popularity for its versatility and ability to appeal to a wide range of tastes. By incorporating these timeless and transitional elements, builders are ensuring that homes retain their appeal and value over time.
Smart Home Technology: In an increasingly connected world, smart home technology has become a must-have feature for custom homeowners. Builders are integrating systems that allow for remote monitoring and control of lighting, temperature, security, and entertainment systems, providing homeowners with convenience, comfort, and peace of mind. From voice-activated assistants to automated window treatments, these technologies are transforming the way we interact with our homes, making daily life more efficient and enjoyable.
Outdoor Living Spaces: In response to the growing desire for seamless indoor-outdoor living, custom home builders are placing greater emphasis on the design and functionality of outdoor spaces. Expansive patios, covered porches, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and swimming pools are just a few features that homeowners are incorporating into their custom designs. By blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, builders are creating opportunities for relaxation, entertainment, and connection with nature, enhancing the overall livability of the home.
High-Quality Craftsmanship: In an age of mass production and disposable goods, discerning homeowners are increasingly valuing high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Expert builders are responding to this demand by prioritizing the use of premium materials, skilled labor, and meticulous construction techniques. From handcrafted cabinetry to custom millwork and artisanal finishes, these elements add character, warmth, and value to custom homes, creating spaces that are truly one-of-a-kind.
In conclusion, the top trends in custom home design reflect a blend of innovation, functionality, and timeless elegance. Expert builders are leveraging sustainable practices, open-concept floor plans, multi-functional spaces, timeless design elements, smart home technology, outdoor living spaces, and high-quality craftsmanship to create homes that surpass the expectations of their clients. Whether building a new home or renovating an existing one, these trends offer valuable insights for homeowners seeking to create their dream home.

Here's another custom home designed to be the owners dreamhouse. This 9bd, 4.5ba 2002 estate in Yantis, Texas is bank owned and for sale for just $549K. You would think that an estate for that price would've sold, but it's been on the market for over 210 days.
Tumblr media
Hmmm. Huge dining room is actually a sun porch with a metal ceiling.
Tumblr media
I thought that this was the living room, and maybe it is, until I saw the fridge standing there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is kitchen #1. Not terribly impressive.
Tumblr media
The dinette area has a poker table. Did you notice that a bedroom was next to the family room and double doors open to a bedroom in here. Strange floorplan.

Okay, this is the living room. Very spacious. Looks there's a bedroom through those double doors, too.

And, this is kitchen #2. Looks like they painted over the dated oak cabinets with black.
Tumblr media
There are 9 bedrooms. This is one of them, and I don't see a window.

How Long Does It Take to Build a Screened-In Porch?
Thinking about adding a screened-in porch? Great choice. It’s one of those upgrades that can completely change how you enjoy your home. Whether you're picturing lazy summer evenings without the bug bites, a cozy spot for morning coffee, or even a safe outdoor space for your pets, a screened-in porch delivers all that and more.
But let’s get to the big question: how long does it actually take to build one? Well, the answer depends on a few things—your design, the materials, whether you're hiring professionals, and, of course, the ever-unpredictable weather. Let’s break it down.
The Quick Answer: It Varies (But Here’s a Ballpark Estimate)
If you’re hiring professionals, most standard screened-in porches take two to four weeks to build, assuming there are no delays.
Simple conversions (existing porch, just adding screens) → 3–5 days
Mid-range builds (new framing, screens, and basic roofing) → 1–2 weeks
Larger or custom designs (deck extension, electrical work, built-in features) → 2–4 weeks or more
If you're tackling this as a DIY project, add some extra time—especially if you’re juggling work, family, or, let’s be honest, weekend laziness.
The Main Factors That Affect Your Timeline
Starting Point: Are You Building From Scratch?
If you already have a porch or deck, you're ahead of the game. Retrofitting an existing structure with screens and framing is way faster than pouring new footings, laying flooring, and constructing an entire porch from the ground up.
Fastest option: You have a covered porch that just needs screens and a few reinforcements → Less than a weekSlower option: You're building from scratch with permits and inspections → 3–4+ weeks
Permits and Paperwork (Yes, You Probably Need Them)
Most cities require permits for structural additions, and South Bend is no exception. If you're extending your home, adding a roof, or changing your deck layout, expect to deal with your local building department.
Timeline for permits: Anywhere from a few days to a few weeks (check with your city early to avoid delays)
Do you need an inspection? Most likely, especially for electrical work or structural changes
If you hire a contractor, they’ll usually handle the permits for you. But if you’re DIY-ing, call your city’s permit office first. It’s not fun, but it's better than ripping things down later because you missed a requirement.
Weather—The Unpredictable Factor
Here in South Bend, weather can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Rain delays, unexpected cold snaps, or high humidity (which slows down drying times for materials) can all throw a wrench in your timeline.
Spring/summer: Prime building season but also busy for contractors
Fall: Good weather, but shorter daylight hours
Winter: Possible, but expect delays due to cold temperatures
If you’re working with a pro, ask how they handle weather-related delays. If you’re DIY-ing, plan for at least a few buffer days.
Materials: In-Stock or Special Order?
A basic screened-in porch uses standard materials like wood, aluminum, or composite. But if you want custom features—like retractable screens, a specialized roof, or high-end finishes—be prepared for longer wait times.
Standard materials (wood framing, fiberglass screens, asphalt shingles) → Available quickly
Custom materials (special wood stains, high-end screening, metal roofing, custom doors) → May take weeks to arrive
Order materials early. Supply chain issues aren’t as bad as they were a couple of years ago, but delays still happen.
DIY vs. Hiring a Pro: What’s the Time Difference?
Hiring a Pro: Faster, Less Stressful
Timeline: 2–4 weeks (including permits, materials, and installation)
Why it’s faster: Contractors have crews, the right tools, and experience
Best for: Complex designs, busy homeowners, or anyone who just wants the job done right
DIY: Slower but More Budget-Friendly
Timeline: 3–8+ weeks (depending on experience and how much time you have)
Why it takes longer: Learning curve, sourcing materials, possible rework
Best for: Handy homeowners with time to spare, those who enjoy a challenge
If you're going the DIY route, set realistic expectations. Even experienced builders need a few weekends to get a porch done. If you have a day job, factor in the time it'll take to work in small chunks.
The “Hidden” Time Factors That Catch People Off Guard
Waiting for contractors to be available – Good ones book out weeks (or months) in advance, especially in spring and summer.
Unforeseen issues – Your existing deck may need repairs before screening can begin.
Custom requests – Want electrical outlets, a ceiling fan, or built-in seating? These extras add time.
Decision-making delays – Choosing materials, layouts, or finishes can slow things down if you’re indecisive.
So, What’s the Realistic Answer?
If you’re hiring professionals, expect a total timeline of one to two months when you factor in planning, permits, and construction. If you’re going the DIY route, give yourself two to three months—or longer if you’re tackling it piece by piece.
Either way, the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll be sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying your new screened-in porch.
Final Thoughts
