Tag 9 people you want to know better
I was tagged by @akroglam, and I really appreciate it, I have been on this page for more than ten years and there have been few times that I have been asked about something. Last song I listened to: taj tu dëhajdsëja bë - Trhä A year ago I found this project on bandcamp and this was the one I liked the most of all the songs by this artist, it sounds like melancholy, hope and effort (?), this is what evokes me, I also associate it with the color light goldenrod yellow because i'm weird.
Currently watching: Nothing, I think I've seen everything I might like, I have a couple of shows pending like Shuffle!, Sola, Denno Coil and the Shirobako movie that I might see this year, but to be honest, everything related to anime has become too mainstream now and that makes me less interested in watching it, there is too much overexposure of the media everywhere and that saturates me because when I started watching it it was for escapism, it was a comfort zone far from reality for me. I know it's wrong and I shouldn't be influenced by it, but I can't do anything with what I feel. But, I would like to rewatch some series, like the Haruhi Suzumiya movie, Kanon, Rahxephon and Toradora to remember the good old days. Currently reading: I'm only reading the ongoing ones that I've been following for a long time, like the Railgun manga, Houseki no Kuni, Made in Abyss, Dungeon Meshi and the eternal classics like Berserk, Hunter X and Kingdom. Lately I've read more VNs than manga, the last one was White Album 2 and Persona 5 Royal, I know it's a JRPG but it still mixes classic VN elements in the game. I want to play Clannad again because the last time was 12 years ago and I feel that the experience will be better with the age that I am now.
Currently obssesion: I was going to say draw but that's been my whole life, lately I'm very interested in plants lol, I'm cleaning and planting various types in the garden at home, I've been unemployed for a year and doing this keeps me active and not feel so useless in the house, and some of them I usually draw because they have interesting shapes. I'm only tagging @lovotomii and @rabbitloaf because the rest of my mutuals have been inactive for years and others aren't interested in this kind of stuff.

9 People I'd like to know better tag
Thank you for the tag @softguarnere
Last song: Fall in Love by Regan Aliyah, I cannot recommend her music enough! Seriously check her out.
Currently watching: For shows, Toradora, for movies Glass Onion.
Currently reading: Just finished We are the Ants by Shaun Hutchinson
Current obsession: Ok, I'm not sure why but when I got recommended OGSoG I started rewatching Game Bang, which has now morphed into me watching Sohinki stream DC Dual Force. I don't know how games like that work; he will see someone play a card and he'll figure out how the match will go???? Fucking weird. I don't understand the game.
If you've already been tagged don't worry about doing this again! @im-sure-i-shot-people @scarecrowmax @blurryfce300 @thewayisset @ackackh @not-trustworthy @softliebgott

@sonorousangels wants me to speak and I would do anything for such a brilliant artist!
favorite color: I do not believe in this concept. Rainbow, all, etc etc--I think they all look nice in their own place!
currently reading: Emma by Jane Austen. I'm going to finish her 6 novels and this is #5. Why? I have no idea I just think she's hilarious and I love gossiping with my friend Jane
last song: "Bleed Out" by the Mountain Goats
last series: The good answer is New Girl which I'm currently watching. The bad but more accurate answer is Toradora, which was a rewatch of a shojo anime because when I'm sad I watch little cartoon people fall in love and then it's all better
last movie: Nope (dir. Jordan Peele). Good stuff!
currently working on: If we're talking fandom I'm not actively writing anything but I have the third instalment of the Something Borrowed always in the back of my head and maybe I will write it someday. It's Sam POV.
I never know who to tag in this stuff @dirtangeldean @castielmode, whoever else would like to do this--if you see this just do it and say I tagged you lol

Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e 1
Tumblr media
Author: Syougo Kinugasa
Illustrator: Tomoseshunsaku
Label: MF Bunko J
Release Date: 25 May 2015
English Release: Seven Seas Entertainment is currently releasing this series in English under the title of Classroom of the Elite.
My Score: 3/5
Story & Characters:
Genre: Drama, Comedy, High School Setting
Story Premise: The series takes place in a prestigious and advanced high school famous for giving its students independence with a point system to buy from its shops and individual dorm rooms. It’s a new school year and our protagonist, Ayanokouji, is a new student put in class D. The students are happy to have their independence but they soon learn that the school is focused on grades and your points depend on your grade and class D is the lowest ranked class and is mocked by the rest of the school. The class is going to need to work together if they want to advance their rank at the school and increase their quality of life.
So, I saw the anime for this just over a year ago and I started off not caring for it much but I ended up just being very curious about all of the characters and what their motivations were so I’m finally reading the light novel. And I’m glad that I am because I am excited to read the later volumes but I didn’t get a whole lot out of this first volume. I think that it has a lot potential and I find the setting very interesting because there’s a lot that you could do with it with regards to exploring modern education systems and the focus they put on standardised testing. I thought this volume on it’s own was just kind of okay but it was interesting enough that I’m interested in reading more.
While I wasn’t too invested in the story of this volume, I did get interested in the characters. I was surprised by how much I liked Ayanokouji. I remember not really understanding him in the anime, due to his stoic nature, but I thought he was really fun and charming here. I had to laugh whenever Horikita mentioned how desperate he seemed for friends, despite not wanting to put in any effort to actually get friends. I like that he never looks down on other people, even when they value different things than he does, and I’m definitely looking forward to getting to know him more. Horikita is the main heroine of this volume and she is the smart cool beauty type of character who is stubborn and unsociable. It took me a while to really get interested in her but I found her pretty likeable by the end of the book as she learns that she isn’t going to be able to advance their class rank on her own. She has some fun interactions with Ayanokouji too. Another major character for this volume is Kikyou. She is the nice girl in the class who wants to make friends with everyone but I basically consider her to be an inferior version of Ami from Toradora. Actually, a funny thing happened where I got her name mixed up with Hirata a few times because they have similar Japanese names and it made those scenes a lot better because I thought that Ayanokouji was saying that Hirata was being cute, until I realised my mistake. Whoops. I’m pretty interested in all of class members at this point but I’m most interested in Kouenji, due to loving him in the anime, and Kei, who is so popular but seems to have gotten the short end of the stick in the anime and I’m curious as to why she’s so popular.
There a few reasons why I didn’t rate this volume higher than a 3. First off, I wasn’t a big fan of the writing style and I felt that some scenes went on a bit too long and I was made uncomfortable with a few of the scenes of the guys talking about the girls’ bodies. While I get that they are teenage boys and this behaviour isn’t strange for them, it did make me uncomfortable. Still, this volume was pretty interesting and I am interested in what’s going to happen next.
Recommended for:
I guess I’d recommend it to people who want to read a comedy/drama set in a high school. I think that if you are interested in the idea of a student’s quality of life being determined by whether they do well with standardised testing, you may want to give this one a go.
Adaptation Notes:
The anime adaptation has 12 episodes and it doesn’t have the best reputation among light novel fans as it cut and changed a lot of things. While I had some issues with the anime, it did make me curious about the characters and it made me want to read the light novel, so I don’t think it did a completely terrible job. I don’t really want to rewatch it though so I won’t go into detail here. From what I can recall, the anime adapts this volume accurately, though cutting out some of Ayanokouji’s inner thoughts does make him harder to understand. I don’t think I would recommend the anime to fans of the light novel but I would recommend it if you just want to get a broad idea of what the series is like and whether you would want to read the light novel or not.
The manga is ongoing at 10 volumes and features art by Kawaisunako. There is a lot of sexual imagery as the lady characters are imagined in various states of undress which I found off-putting. Again, I get that these are teenage boys but it’s still annoying. Some stuff is cut, particularly with Sudou who gets more focus in the light novel, and the manga has this thing with starting chapters in media res, leading to me getting somewhat confused about the story, despite having read the light novel and seen the anime. I don’t recommend it.
There is also an anthology and a spin-off focusing on Horikita but I won’t be covering them here.
I will be reading the second volume in the future but I don’t know when I’m going to get around to it.

Anime Update 1
Thanks goes to @animebw for the inspiration.
This is something I’ll be doing from now on since I’m on a weekly anime watch schedule where I watch or rewatch episodes of anime I’ve selected for each day. Here’s my current Sunday to Saturday line-up and my thoughts on them thus far:
CLANNAD - So far so...strange. I was a bit taken aback that the male lead of this show has Hinata Hideki’s voice in the English dub, and his dynamic with Greg Ayres’ character is sort of opposite to Hinata and Naoi’s. Half the time I wasn’t sure what was going on, mainly due to some poor editing in the episode and that weird “girl in the illusionary world” poem interlude that came and went very early in. Otherwise it’s okay. Hope to learn more about Nagisa.
Dragon Ball - Started this on episode 30, which kind of plays out like another beginning with some ham-fisted exposition by the narrator at the start. The episode itself was mostly just groundwork for what’s to follow. Always fun to watch Emperor Pilaf and his gang’s antics, and does Chris Sabat’s take on Colonel Silver sounds like he’s semi-channeling Alan Rickman?
Toradora - This show is actually a lot more enjoyable than I remembered it, and much of it has to do with not only Minori’s wacky weirdo moments, but how the two leads bounce off each other, especially in the dub where Erik Scott Kimerer and Cassandra Lee Morris just kill it. In contrast with straightforwardly tough and “cool” Tsunderes like Chitoge Kirisaki, Taiga is a bizarre, klutzy, hopelessly awkward mess of a Tsundere and I adore her for it. For this rewatch, I’ll be most interested in seeing how the show’s second half holds up for me now.
Excel Saga - This show, however, is exactly what I remembered it being - total absolute lunacy that it revels it and it makes me enjoy it along with it. Jessica Calvello has gotten more of a career in recent years and I’m glad, since her early work as Excel in this dub is the stuff of LEGENDS. I also enjoyed how the first episode just bounced around to different scenarios without sticking to one single plot for Excel to follow, but not only did a lot of the seemingly random shit pay off later in some way (like Good Excel getting arrested for having killed Bad Excel back in a completely different scenario), but the end of the episode actually set up all the threads that will be reurring in this show (Pedro’s life wasn’t reset so he’s still a ghost, Pedro’s family are living their life fine without him, Ilpalazzo has personal desires beyond just conquest, Nabeshin is on the run, and Excel’s wacky apartment neighbors are going to end up working for the heroic counterpart to ACROSS). That was surprisingly clever writing.
Ace Attorney - Seeing the “second case” following of the first...yeah, I think “Turnabout Sisters” should’ve just been the first as was intended, as when you put “The First Turnabout” before it and it establishes more the relationship that Phoenix Wright and Mia Fey have, then Phoenix’s response to Mia’s murder in the following case seems shockingly underplayed given what we’d just seen. As for the dub, only Eric Vale in the role of Phoenix Wright has particularly impressed me. Maya’s voice sounds obnoxiously try-hard in matching up with the Japanese VA, and I’ve not heard enough of Edgeworth’s voice to make a full judgment but the lack of a British accent for him is glaring. Still, it’s a decent anime adaptation thus far.
Nadja of Tomorrow - The takeaway from the first episode would be “appearances can be deceiving.” The show makes itself look like a fluffy, cutesy old fashioned novel-esque Shoujo anime right from the start. By the end of just the first episode, we have crooks breaking into a building full of children, the building catching fire, the crooks chasing after the child heroine, and the child heroine ending the episode passed out and in the care of total strangers. That is QUITE the left turn from what you’re expecting, but one that sets the tone for a great story. Of the characters seen so far, George is my favorite due to his Engrish speaking showmanship.
Mobile Fighter G Gundam -  This one’s also pretty much exactly as I remember it. The English dub has sooo many hokey or over-the-top voice acting performances, and there are parts of the show that are just so freaking stupid and ridiculous but presented with such unironic sincerity that you can't help but unironically love all the absurdity and laugh with the show rather than at it. For God’s sake, there’s a part where the Italian detective basically tries to drown the main hero in a pizza. And then at the very end of the episode, that pizza actually comes back in the episode’s finishing scene! It’s so fucking stupid that you can’t not love it!

aa So I just woke up to this?
Tumblr media
I’m just.. speechless? I can’t believe this actually happened, so thank you all for the last few months, for every like, reblog and comment. It’s been such a pleasure to interact with you and scream about Mirio and The Big Three<3 I hope 2019 won’t bring us too many tears (spoiler: it will.) and we can all laugh about their shenanigans again (spoiler: we won’t.). This blog came alive with crazy good fanart, hilarious memes and sweet headcanons, sprinkled with my neverending affection towards Mirio, so kudos go out to the amazing artists and writers that create the content we love<3 Thank you for over 1k followers and I hope to see the family of mirihoes grow in the progressing year! I’ve received a lot of questions for my milestone special and I only picked out a few, but if you want more of these, let me know! Now let’s dive right into the Q&A!
Heey~ I’m a huge Bnha fan and I love this blog, keep up the great work!! \(^-^)/ I’d love to know how old you are, if that’s not too personal of a question?
Not at all! I’m actually 20 y/o and my Birthday is in June, also my zodiac is Gemini👭
What do you do for a living?
I’m a university student in my second year! I’m majoring in Linguistics and my minor is English Literature and Culture. Though before, I did a year of Environmental Sciences, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea so I quit🤷‍♀️ I’m also part timing at a boutique.
Hello! I check your blog everyday and I can’t with all your reactions, they’re almost always the same as mine:D Which state (USA) are you from and what languages do you speak?
Lol, do I really sound American?:D I’m actually from Germany, so German is my mother tongue! Other than that, I consider myself pretty fluent in English (your assumption of me being a native speaker flatters me so much, you have no idea) and I guess my French is decent. I can order food and ask for directions in Spanish (ayyyy) and studied Hindi for two semesters at Uni. Also I’m currently learning Japanese for my degree in Linguistics.
Do you have a favorite anime show? Other than My hero academia of course!
My all time favorite anime is definitely Arslan Senki! Besides that, I also love Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Assassination Classroom, Durarara, Hunter x Hunter and pretty much every existing sports anime (Haikyuu, Kuroko no Basuke, Daiya no Ace, Free!, Yowapedal, Yuri on Ice, Prince of Tennis,.. although Haikyuu is my favorite) I enjoy most genres as long as the plot and characters appeal to me.
Do you read any manga? (also LOVE YOUR BLOG!!<3)
Yeah! I really love manga and I’ve read tons of shoujo when I was younger (I bingeread every night in middle school tbh) Nowadays though, not so much anymore.. It’s not that I came to hate it, I just don’t have as much time unfortunately-.-’ I do read the new Bnha and Haikyuu chapters on a weekly basis, but I can’t manage more than that. I also read yaoi/shounen-ai manga and doujinshi from time to time, but it’s not as much of an obsession as it was a few years ago. However, I own a couple of manga series (Bnha, Haikyuu, Arslan Senki), which I love to reread in my free time😊
hey, we share a love for mirio, so do you maybe have a few anime recommendations, or any good anime you’re watching now?
uhuhuhu birds of a feather flock together;))) Of course I can dish out some recommendations, but I’ll start with what I’m watching atm. I started rewatching Daiya no Ace not so long ago (due to the announcement of Season 4) so I sometimes watch a few episodes of that when I find the time. Also, and this is a recommendation as well, there’s this new track and field anime called Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru (Run with the Wind) coming out every Friday and it’s hilarious. If you like sports anime, you should definitely give it a go! The last anime I’m rewatching right now is Sukitte Ii na yo (Say I love you), cause I’ve been in a shoujo mood lately and after several years I still can’t deal with the cuteness of this show. Now for recs.. this is hard, since everyone has a different taste in series, but other than the shows I’ve named in the “Favorite anime” question, I’d recommend Wotakoi (Wotaku ga Koi no Muzukashii). It’s a very sweet anime about the love stories of otakus, so if you like a good laugh and lots of fluff, this show is for you (11eps). Same goes for Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (12eps + 6 short specials). Shounen-wise I enjoyed for example Noragami, Bleach, Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Magi. Shoujo-wise I can always rewatch Toradora, Kimi ni Todoke and Itazura na Kiss. Sorry for rambling, there are just too many!😅
What pronouns do you use? And what’s you sexual orientation? If the latter question is too personal, just ignore it(/ω\)
No worries! I use she/her pronouns and I’m pan, slightly favoring men. Probably due to the fact that I’ve only had hetero relationships so far. Though, I really don’t care about my partner’s gender🤷‍♀️
hi, i’ve been going through a rough time lately and your reblogs and memes never fail to make my day. how so you stay positive when things are going downhill? (sorry for the weird ask..)
Your question isn’t weird at all! I’m sorry to hear that you don’t feel well lately and I’m glad my posts are able to cheer you up a bit<3 I, for my part, am a very optimistic person and always try to concentrate on the positive things in my life, but I cannot deny that due to my personal problems I’ve spent many nights sleepless as well. Unfortunately, there’s no recipe for happiness, but here are some things you should always keep in mind should you feel down: Don’t surround yourself with toxic people. Don’t let them in your life and if they already are, either ignore them or cut them off. The latter won’t always work, since the world of adulthood is a cruel place, but try to develop a thick skin and don’t let them abuse the power over you that they don’t actually have. Try to talk with people. I can tell from experience that talking about your problems will almost always make you feel better, or at least lighter afterwards. Think positive. There’s never only black and white, so even if everything seems hopeless or bland, you should never cease to search for the good aspects. An example from me: Uni fucks me up real bad atm. I have six exams and one term paper to write this semester and I’m seriously afraid of failing. I’ve always had insane expectations of myself, because when I was a toddler, my parents found out that I was highly talented and that has been a as much of a curse as it is a blessing throughout my entire life. Whenever something gets too much for me and I end up in a slump, I think about how grateful I am to have so many wonderful friends. I think of all the things I plan to do with the money I earn, such as travelling, buying manga, movies, clothes,.. and even if that might not seem like a trivial matter for some people, I think of all the amazing anime coming out this year: Ice Adolescence, One Punch Man Season 2, Attack on Titan Season 3, Fruits Basket remake, Bnha Season 4, Haikyuu Season 4, Daiya no Ace Season 3.. Why am I naming these? Because they keep me going. They give me something to look forward to. They make me realize that I’m extremely grateful to be alive, because I get to experience these works. I get to discuss my favorite shows with people, who share my interests! I get to scream about Mirio’s bara arms with you guys! If that isn’t something to be cheerful about, I don’t know what is<3
And since I don’t want to end this on a solemn note, here’s a personal favorite of mine:
On a scale from 1-10, how much do you love Mirio?^^
1.000.000 (A million, you get it? wink wonk) Thanks for sticking around! Hope this gave you a little insight on who I am and I’d love to spend 2019 with you as well<3

The “to test” folder:
Tumblr media
Why is Haikyuu!! in both my anime folder and To Test? Eh.
So yeah, lol. I haven’t actually watched anything in a while - I got absorbed with Pokemon and Adventure Time again. But I started watching Boku no Hero Academia the other day, and there are so. many. flashbacks. But I like it. (It’s really hard for me to finish a lot of shows, I tend to have to take a break then go back to them, to keep my ADD brain satisfied with new stimuli and not bored.)

i wanted to ask u this since i saw u recommening PMMM to everyone here on tumblr: what kind of anime do u like? whats ur favorite anime and what other anime would u recommend? i'm very much interested in knowing ur favorite genre and tastes.
Oh lol, you’re the second person today asking me for “advice” about anime. Mh, I like pretty much any kind of anime which is not boring. I’m more into yuri anime and I’ve never watched a yaoi before just ‘cause I’m not really into that kinda stuff, but really, I usually go for psychological/mysterious/thriller genre. Just because I like to analyze the characters and going with the story until they plot-twist everything and you get me going like “WHAT THE HOLY FUCK??!!”. I love it when they turn everything upside down and they make me feel like I’ve been an idiot for that entire time, trusting the plot. I also like anime with very complex characters, but above all, anime with a very good character’s characterization. If there isn’t that, if the characters are plain and boring, the anime will be boring too, and sure as hell I won’t be watching it.
I don’t think I’ve got a favorite anime. I’ve currently got three of them which are like in my top 3, which are PMMM, Guilty Crown and Mirai Nikki - the latter simply because yes, the plot is interesting but not THAT amazing, however it has got the one character which I love the most in the world. The one character I find the most complex and most wonderful in the whole anime/manga world; that being Gasai Yuno. I’m just in love with her. I’ve watched Mirai Nikki 5 times already , prolly, and I’ve started rewatching it today again, for the 6th time. And despite I know it by heart, like I legitimately know every single episode by heart, I know what’s gonna happen, when is gonna happen perfectly, I still don’t get tired of it because there’s Yuno. She’s honestly a pleasure for the eyes.
I would totally recommend you Mirai Nikki and Guilty Crown, of course. If you like yuri anime and you haven’t watched it yet, then, I’d also recommend you Simoun. It is pretty heavy and intense as an anime too, but it’s really worth watching. Same thing goes for El Cazador the la Bruja or Blue Drop(!). There honestly are a thousand I’ve watched which I’ve more or less liked too (Seikon no Qwaser has got my no.1 anime/manga OTP in it…………..), all of different genres and with different plots and characters (Toradora! is one of my all time favorite anime, too!), so I really wouldn’t know… X°D I loved To Aru Majutsu no Index spin off serieses too (To Aru Kagaku no Railgun and Railgun S!  - which, by they way, imo they’ve got the BEST yuri character EVER conceived), I didn’t particularly enjoy Shingeki no Kyojin (despite it has got WONDERFUL soundracks!), but I loved Kill la Kill. And if we talk about ecchi anime, such as Seikon no Qwaser which I’ve already mentioned, I also kinda liked Ikkitousen series. Again, I honestly enjoy all sort of anime, so long as they’ve got something that interests me - a character, a couple, a plot-line, fighting scenes, I don’t know, anything (I love comedy anime too! Such as K-ON, Yuru Yuri etc.) But I usually definitely prefer the psychological/complex ones.

2 Months Later
Is it two months? It’s 1 am, I can’t
@highoncatmint called me cute so now I must do her tag or whatever you tumblr kids call it.
Relationship status:
Single, happy parent of two very fluffy and needy children. One just became a teenager last month so I’ve had my hands full, you know! (im lying to you, all she does is sleep)
Lipstick or chapstick:
I think the last time I wore lipstick was when I was 14. I lick my lips too much to enjoy either.
Last song I listened to:
7 Years by Lukas Graham.
Last movie I watched:
Movie... movie... Moana in December?
Favourite colours:
Red. Or pastels of anything. Or sepia tints... greys?
Top 3 shows:
I just binged Rick & Morty for the first time today. Otherwise, been on an unexpected, 11-year-time-lapse Naruto kick. Prior to that I just rewatched GDW with a newcomer (aka, I dragged an innocent person into Ginga hell) and... man I don’t know, I love Avatar, a bunch of shoujo... Ao Haru Ride and Toradora! are my favourites in that tier... rah. In Freshman year I was obsessed with Skins. That show spawned my first ever and currently only legitimate celebrity crush.
Top 3 favourite characters:
Err... per show? I’m having to comb through the catalogs in my brain’s catacombs and it’s not currently going well. Smith from Ginga keeps coming to the front of my mind, so I suppose that means something. I’m a very nostalgic person. Shit, I think I just shut off for like two solid minutes. These questions are dangerous.
Top 3 ships:
Top ships..? How does one even choose... I think I’m most passionate about BBxRaven from Teen Titans, KeiichixMion from Higurashi and... EdxWinry from FMA? Probably loads more that my brain is violently fighting back for some reason.
I tag: I know no one :D

Toradora 4
Tumblr media
Author: Yuyuko Takemiya
Illustrator: Yasu
Label: Dengeki Bunko
Release Date: 6 January 2007
My Score: 4/5
English Release: Seven Seas Entertainment is currently publishing this series is English so please check it out if you are interested in the series.
In this volume, the gang goes to Ami’s beach house for summer vacation. But before that, Ryuuji and Taiga have a shared dream where they get married and Ryuuji is eternally Taiga’s dog. Taiga decides that the dream means that they need to hurry up and win the hearts of their respective love interests or they’ll be stuck together, and the upcoming trip is the perfect chance. They play badminton to decide who to focus their efforts on and Ryuuji wins so they come up a plan to scare Minori with ghost stories so Ryuuji has a chance to comfort her.
This volume has some of the most memorable gags in the series, and I’m especially fond of the gag where Taiga walks in on Ami in the shower and is shocked at how “big” she is. It’s just so funny! In general, Ami had a lot of great scenes in this volume, and I got my fill of “Ami-chan”s to satisfy me for a good while.
We also learn a lot more about Minori this volume as her and Ryuuji get closer. I don’t really ship anyone in this series. I remember that I used to ship Ryuuji/Ami, but when I rewatched the series, I wasn’t into them much. I do think that Ryuuji and Minori would be compatible due to having shared hobbies, and they would make great parents for Taiga, but as Ami sort of says in this volume, Ryuuji tends to idolise Minori to the point of not really seeing her flaws, which is why they may not work out. I think Ryuuji sees Minori as the ideal normal girl, because his dad was a yakuza and he lives in a run-down apartment with a single mum, so I think he sees her as a representation of the normal and clean life that he desires. And, like I’ve said, I prefer Ryuuji and Taiga as platonic, largely due my love of platonic found family narratives.
The reason why I didn’t rate this volume a full 5 stars is because I got a bit annoyed at some of the narration about Ami’s body, and I do think that this story was done a bit better in the anime, just due to how good the visual gags and voice acting are.
Adaptation Notes:
This volume is covered in episodes 9 & 10 in the anime. The animation and the voice acting makes a lot of the gags even funnier. Like usual, there are a couple of minor details that are changed, but it’s largely the same. To be honest, the stuff that the anime cuts are stuff that are so minor that they don’t change much later. For example, they cut Ami telling Ryuuji that Kitamura has a crush on someone in the volume 2 adaptation, but it’s not like this has come up in the light novel since she told him that, so cutting it didn’t have much of an effect on the plot. When the anime cuts something, it’s usually just to save time, and I’ve only disagreed with a couple of the things that they have cut so far.
The manga cut the gag where Taiga tries to describe just how big Ami is! At least they kept in the gag with Kitamura’s towel but I am super bummed that my favourite gag was skipped. The manga also cuts the starting bit with the dream and the badminton game. Otherwise, it’s pretty faithful to the light novel and has good facial expressions.
The next volume in the series is actually the first spin-off volume. I’m interested in seeing whether the anime incorporated any of the short stories from that volume.
