I really need to stop paying attention to Warrior Cats but I just can't. What have they done? They turned a compelling arc, and even start to that book, into a train wreck. You are seriously going to tell me 90% of the clan allowed this guy to threaten kits and that's the only reason they followed him? Even Brokenstar had to lie and push the blame for kit-death onto another cat, and that other cat got driven out of the clan for it. Splashtail is just a straight up cartoon villain and I hate that. We can't have a nuanced atheist-type character, they have to be over the top terrible, evil, and horribly neglectful of the clan they are leading. This entire arc has been stupid about the atheist thing, really. Why do we even need a starclan connection to pick a leader? We already know you don't need a medicine cat with a connection to starclan with you to actually receive the lives- Mistystar went to the moonpool with only Mothwing, and still got them. Or did the writers forget that. Also, the leader you end up picking is Icewing? You know, the cat who abandoned their clan to go on a stupid quest and was apparently gone for at least a half-moon or more. I know Riverclan has no established characters, but at least Duskfur stuck beside Frostpaw. This entire arc was so promising, and Curlfeather.. oh Curlfeather.

I actually wish Curlfeather got the chance to become leader especially with the newest revelations. It would of made an interesting conflict of a seemingly good leader with bad intentions, especially when nobody in the clan expects it and our POV is her DAUGHTER who sees her as everything. AND with Curlstar it wouldve given us 3 FEMALE LEADERS (given she lived long enough for Squirrelstar to happen) which would be the most at any time in warriors! it could of been super interesting but we got generic brown tabby tom villain #35 😕

Grayclaw

"Looks like we're gonna have to kill this guy, Jinx Arcane."

"Damn."

Grayclaw is a silver tabby tom with spiral patterned stripes, long fur, sharp claws, broad shoulders, and ears that begin to curl inward at the tips by ASC Book 4. His eyes are ice-blue.

Poor Graypaw. He takes each loss he feels so deeply to heart. He was inconsolable when his Papa was gone, as he and Jayclaw had an incredibly close bond despite how young Graykit was.

When Curlfeather passed, Graypaw took it even more terribly. He was very nearly in denial, trying to hold himself together to be the "rock" for his sisters. He did not do it well.

Splashtail sunk his claws into him. Promised him security in return for support. He was Curlfeather's apprentice, he knew she would want him to watch over her kits. She was such a good, loving mother, wasn't she? Such a shame she's gone, she would have made a perfect leader, good thing she shared all her ideas with me to make me a perfect new candidate. Ah, rest, sweet Curlstar, I shall take care of your children for you...

Graypaw buys it. He supports Splashtail, his new best friend. When Splashtail claims his leadership, Graypaw vouches for him. His mother trusted him, he must clearly be worthy.

Then Frostpaw is "killed". She runs away from the Clans into a strange place with a small party of other cats, Sunbeam, Nightheart, Whistlepaw, and Shadowsight. No one knows this, of course. She is assumed to have died as well. Graypaw snaps. He cannot take another loss, and hangs on to every word Splashtail says. Splashtail is young and born from tumultuous times himself. Starclan has lead them astray in his eyes, and his mentality stems from a long cycle of violence that is as inevitable as an egg spoiling in summer heat. Graypaw swears he will do anything to keep Riverclan safe, and follow Splashstar's every order.

In return, Graypaw is immediately given his warrior name, Grayclaw. In honour of his beloved father, who would be so proud to see him. Splashstar tells Riverclan to yowl loud enough that Jayclaw will hear his name being honored. Funny that he left out any mention of 'Curlstar'.

Grayclaw becomes one of Splashstar's enforcers, quickly climbing the ranks. Grayclaw, Duskfur, Shinetoe, Brackenpelt, Foxnose, Shadenose, Wavesplash, Spikeleaf, and Mallownose all support him. While Mallownose is made deputy, Splashstar creates a second position. Head Enforcer.

Grayclaw is placed in that decorated position. He is in charge of enforcing Splashstar's rules, and making sure cats are compliant with them. He buries his head in the sand when it comes to complaints. The only one he'll listen to is his sister. Mistpaw, denied a warrior name for not singing Splashstar's praises, doesn't complain, but... She does make suggestions. She saw a lot of salmon in the stream, maybe they could do more hunting patrols today rather than making everyone go over battle moves for the 5th time in a row?

Grayclaw grieves his missing sister, presumed dead, he cannot stop thinking about how much of a failure he must be, that the only hope he has left is to keep Mistpaw safe... If she keeps looking upset, Splashstar will get angry...

He forces Mistpaw to bow to Splashstar, calling him Riverclan's true leader, and that the only reason she'd held off was due to her own grief for her mother. Of course Splashstar understands, he's so generous, so wise.

He gives her the name Mistwillow instantly, a beautiful name, and seems to settle down. Grayclaw sees this as having been the correct thing to do. It kept his sister safe and in line, and Splashstar approved.

Then, when the dust seemingly settled during a horrible battle with Windclan, Frostpaw appeared in the moonlight, silver fur shining and curled ears framing the crescent moon. She had a small group with her that was growing quickly, leading a rebellion against Splashstar and his enforcers. Grayclaw at first was enraged, he had mourned her so badly, fought so hard for the peace he had built for Mistwillow and himself, and now she came in trying to tear it all down. He fought like hell at first, going after the River Rebels and doing his best to destroy them.

And then he grew desperate. He begged Frostpaw to join them. They'd be a happy family again. They wouldn't have to be alone anymore. They could just go back to the way things used to be. She just had to give all of this up...

Frostfeather refuses, and The River Rebels make another push back into their home.

Grayclaw can't take it. He can't handle his sister abandoning him again. He needs to be better, to keep what he has left together as it slips through his claws like feathers in a hurricane. He resolves himself of one thing...

He'll always have his sister's memory.

Grayclaw catches his sister, crashing into her after a long chase up onto the highest cliff of Sun-Drown Place, the two rolling over each other, almost off the edge of the cliff.

As thunder cracks deafeningly above them and lightning shines in Frostfeather's star-filled eyes, Grayclaw pins her against soaking wet rock, sharpened claws raised high, dripping from the torrential rain around them... He knows if Frostfeather perishes, the rebellion will too. Splashstar needs him to do this.

He has to do this.

Why can't he do this?

my current theory as to how All The RiverClan Stuff has gone down is:

- duskfur, curlfeather, splashtail, mallownose, and maybe some other riverclan cats did not like the code changes

- they came up with a plan to kill reedwhisker and have curlfeather be made deputy due to an omen they could manipulate frostpaw into having. mistystar was already close to death so they wouldn’t have to wait that long for curlfeather to take over as curlstar and reverse some code changes

- whoopsie! looks like mistystar died while they were busy killing reedwhisker! well uh. ok everything’s kinda chaotic now but we can salvage this. we can give frostpaw the omen and make curlfeather leader. honestly if anything the plan’s barely changed aside from this minor hiccup, curlfeather’s gonna be leader before they know it and-

- oh my god she’s dead

- i fully believe. splashtail killed curlfeather. without the others being in on it. maybe he saw something in the plan he didn’t like. maybe he saw an opportunity to become leader himself. maybe he was never in it for the code changes, only his own ambition

- it’s mentioned that the cats sent to retrieve curlfeather’s body are splashtail, duskfur, and mallownose. at this point i imagine they’re discussing ways to salvage their plan (duskfur and mallownose unaware that splashtail is the one who sabotaged it). they can’t decide on a new leader just yet, but splashtail is in the perfect position to gain frostpaw’s trust and have her produce some other omen if necessary. the group resolve to figure something out later, once the situation has cleared up

that’s my current theory as to how previous events played out. curious to hear what everyone else thinks

Day 2: New OC!

my man Stonestar... formerly Stonetooth :) i created him as Dapplestar's predecessor, and funnily enough they both followed the same path

Stonetooth was a very, VERY smart cat, okay? and he was very stupid in love with his BF Owlchaser AKA, Curlstar's son. Stonetooth and Owlchaser both worked hard in hopes to achieve deputy status, but Stonetooth thinks that nepotism is the reason Owlchaser was chosen over him or anyone else.

Stonetooth was still in love with him though--even being chosen deputy when Owlchaser became Owlstar--but his jealousy raged on until one day he jjust staged a coup. Killing Owlstar publically, and then replacing him as leader, if only to be loved just a much as he was.

And Stonestar promised not to be nepotistic, and chose another cat he felt qualified for deputy, over his apprentice who he had originally intended to take his place, should Stonestar have died before leadership.

And his apprentice, grew up and had a kid against his better judgement. But we'll get into Dapplekit/paw/heart/star some other time :)

Literally his ENTIRE story was based off Brutus by The Buttress, bc I did not give a SHIT abt him until I listened to this song

i think that the cats doing bad things are depending on recency bias

like if curlfeather became curlstar and was a really good leader, then she would go to starclan because she was a leader that served her clan well and the murders matter less in the grand scheme of things

at least, thats the way that makes the most sense.

actually. why are cats still evil knowing the punishment for that after death is eternal damnation in the dark forest? why are there still villains after that. so what if you succeed now? you lose spectacularly later. that forest eats cats. everyone knows this now after what happened to bristlefrost.

i'd assume for the same reasons people who believe in hell still sin. there are lots of reasons i can totally see it. you know there's also sunk cost fallacy, belief that what you're doing isn't wrong, life while living means more than life while dead, they're not bad so the action isn't bad, belief in the greater good - lots of spicy seasoning reasons for itty bitty kitties to commit war crimes.

AGH SORRY LAST ONE AND THEN ITS BEDTIME Swanbite (Swansea) and Taipanstrike (jimmy sorry) but okg yall have been so nice and it means the world to me i love talking and answering questions so tysm!!

Swanbite is a tunnel digger who should 100% be retired but he'll probably stop working once he's dead (and then he'll go to StarClan and start working again). Hibiscuspaw (Daisuke)s mentor died quite suddenly so Swanbite was kinda thrown in bc he was the only one who had the time for it

And Jimmy is here I guess he's a rouge who befriended Curlstar when they were both app. age and was convinced to join the clan where he eventually became deputy. Despite being welcomed warmly he is obsessed with proving himself and being seen as a hero so when he finds a forgotten, sketchy looking tunnel he convinces a patrol to go in where they (unsurprisingly) get trapped
