ok since we’re discussing harry’s appearance and you’ve already clarified what you think he looks like from the neck down, now i’m wondering about his face. obviously, the books provide quite a generous description of him — green eyes, black, messy hair, etc — but i’m more curious about whether you envision him as having delicate features? is his face longer and more masculine or a bit more rounded and doll-like? would he be described as being attractive? handsome? beautiful?

since he’s a carbon copy of james, i’d assume that he genuinely is an attractive boy/man, but since we, as readers, see things so much more from his obviously subjective perspective, we also can’t get a very good feel of these things because harry himself isn’t interested in them. and, well, he is quite oblivious to other’s attentions in general.

i’m just curious what your perception of him is from canon, since i’ve seen so so many variations of his character in fanfictions.

So, we actually have a ton of little details about Harry's facial features in the books. And, contrary to what many characters say, he isn't really a carbon copy of James, especially if he removes his glasses because some of his prominent facial features are described to be Lily's.

Harry is a kid who has his father’s hair, height, and glasses, so when people look at him from afar he looks like his dad. But if you look at him closely, or he removes his glasses, their faces share similarities, sure, but they are nowhere near as similar as you thought they were a moment ago when he had his glasses on. Like, that's how I see it, and the books support this:

It was as though he was looking at himself but with deliberate mistakes.

Harry is one of these kids who's a pretty equal mix of both their parents in his face. So, if he stood next to James, anyone looking would say they look really similar. If he stood next to Lily, they'd say he looked really similar to her (especially without his glasses).

Harry is mentioned to have his mother’s eyes, not just in color, but also in shape:

it was one of the girls from the lake edge. She had thick, dark red hair that fell to her shoulders and startlingly green almond-shaped eyes — Harry’s eyes.

So, Harry has green almond-shaped eyes like Lily. Almond-shaped eyes look something like this, apparently:

We also have details regarding Harry's nose. Since his nose is more similar to Lily's than James', at least, I think so:

I imagine Harry to have a more button-shaped nose since it's what I imagine for Lily (James has a straighter nose in my mind). I don't have any quotes for the nose shape though, so it's just my headcanon.

What is canon is that Harry's nose is smaller than James' and Ron's.

As for other features of his face:

And Harry is consistently described with a thin face:

So, from these two quotes, we can compose the rest of Harry's face shape (sorta). So Harry has a thin face, thin faces usually look more elongated. I assume his jaw is sharper than Lily's since he takes after James there.

We know his mouth and eyebrows are shaped like James', but I couldn't locate other quotes that were more specific, I take it to state his lips are on the thinner side, and his eyebrows are more masculine in shape since it's what I assume about James' appearance.

Now, I know some of the fandom headcanons Harry as not white, but I personally don't think it's the case in the books. JKR mentions very clearly when a character isn't white, with the expectation that any character that isn't given an ethnicity would be assumed white. It's how she writes, and you can say what you will about that, but it's not what I'm talking about. Additionally, contrary to popular belief, Harry's skin color is mentioned in the books to be white and pale (so is Hermione's actually).

I found a few quotes that outright mention Harry being pale, and therefore, white (this isn't an exhaustive list):

“Harry, dear, are you sure you’re all right?” said Mrs. Weasley in a worried voice, as they walked around the unkempt patch of grass in the middle of Grimmauld Place. “You look ever so pale... Are you sure you slept this morning? You go upstairs to bed right now, and you can have a couple of hours’ sleep before dinner, all right?”

Their eyes met over the basin, each pale face lit with that strange, green light. Harry did not speak. Both Harry and Dumbledore are mentioned to be pale-skinned.

The word "pale" is used by JKR to describe skin quite often, and even when someone is "pale" when they are scared or stressed, it's because their skin is pale. I haven't seen her use the word for any of the dark-skinned characters (Like Dean Thomas, who was shown to be scared on occasion, but never described as "pale"). Besides being described as "pale", Harry's face is described as white on occasion as well:

Harry had gone very white. As soon as he found his voice he said, “Blown up? You told me they died in a car crash!”

And considering Tom, who is repeatedly described as very pale and white, says:

It's clear Harry looks very English, and therefore, very white. I'd go further and say he's likely quite pale considering how often he is mentioned to be pale + his resemblance to Tom. You can obviously headcanon whatever you want, I'm not stopping you, I'm just saying what the canon is.

I'd note that in general, Harry is pretty handsome and good-looking. In books 5 and 6, he's mentioned to be of interest to many girls, among them the good-looking and popular ones (even if he doesn't realize they are good-looking). Being the Boy Who Lived, rich, and famous gets some of this attention too, yes, but Hermione tells him the fact he is hot helps. Which it does:

“Oh, come on, Harry,” said Hermione, suddenly impatient. “It’s not Quidditch that’s popular, it’s you! You’ve never been more interesting, and frankly, you’ve never been more fanciable.” [...] “And it doesn’t hurt that you’ve grown about a foot over the summer either,” Hermione finished, ignoring Ron.

I know she just mentions he's tall (Ron is there, after all), but the implication is that he's hot and has no idea.

Besides, both James and Lily are described as good-looking by various characters, JKR said of James: "James was reasonably good looking, though not as good looking as Sirius" and considering Sirius is one of the most attractive characters in the series, this is one hell of a compliment. As Harry is a decent mix of both their features, he is likely good-looking. He probably looks pretty cute as a tiny, scrawny kid with bright eyes, and he grows to be more handsome and attractive as he grows. Like, I don't think that many girls would be interested in him in 6th year if he wasn't also handsome, so Hermione is right. Harry isn't as smoking hot as Sirius or Tom Riddle, but he is still very good-looking.

my best guess (and as always, a reminder: I'm NOT any kind of medical healthcare professional!) is that you might have a *tiny* issue with your blood, like low pressure or low iron. it doesn't sound like this is an urgent issue in your life, and it seems that you've already identified a lot of good ways to help offset the lightheadedness that comes after sex. at some point you may want to float the issue with a healthcare provider, but I wouldn't put it under the "danger" heading unless it starts getting much more severe or impacting other areas of your life.

Thinkin bout that Jane Doe post an anon made and what Tim’s reaction would be to realizin that Jason is now lookin into them.

So, Jane Doe was established during Tim's time as Robin. Therefore, he did end up disappearing for a few months during the BruceQuest. The others were worried about Jane, but she eventually came back.

I think Tim wouldn't kill off Jane (he cares a bit too much about how the others' would react), but she does disappear for a bit until Red Hood stops looking into them.

What I'm curious about is whether Jane tells the others the reason they are disappearing or if she just stops showing up. If they do tell the others (something about RH making them nervous), I'm curious how that whole interaction would go.

Jane would be saying how they are going to lay low until RH stops looking into them. If anyone is sus, Jane might need to say RH reminds them of their brother. She would also have to reassure the others that RH is still trustworthy but makes them nervous (and Tim would probably play it off as a trauma response). I hope the others respect this boundary and stop asking RH to interfere after hearing Jane's feelings about it. They may feel guilty and helpless when they realize RH would do more harm than good, but they want Jane to come around. At least that way they can make sure she's alive.

Reading about Deuce!Yutu now I'm curious about Adeuce being uncles to any Yutu! We already have the granddaddy Crewel (😉😉), so.

I imagine Ace flexing about it and Deuce being (or trying to be) a somewhat responsible figure? "Watch uncle Ace and learn" vs. "You can always lean on your uncle Deuce *cough* while he freaks out *cough*". In nutshell they're happy, but idiots about it. While their relationship depends on and kid's personality (or who's the daddy, lol), they must have something they do regardless.

I feel like Deuce is super serious about it. He takes Yuu's safety really seriously already so to have a baby Yuu? Oh he's so worried about him it's not even funny. It's 10x worse if Yutu is a Heartslabyul baby because Deuce feels like he should have been protecting his dad too. Riddle! Yutu gets it the worst because of how openly traumatized he is; he's very soft with Trey! Yutu and Yushi. He has no idea how to deal with what happened to them so he just awkwardly hovers around trying to be reliable.

Ace says that he hates this because he can't stand having another person to look after but honestly? He kind of likes it. Ace does like boring domestic stuff and he likes the thought of having a nephew. His flexing comes in the form of trying to make life a bit normal for Yutu. He'll play basketball with him, make him try a whole bunch of snacks, picks up a bunch of "classic" movies that he absolutely needs to see, and basically all the other things he does with Yuu and Deuce because hey. The kid is old enough to be his friend he can worry about being an authority figure and role model in the future.

However, I don't think I worded my ask clearly/correctly. I more so was curious on how Raphael would react to someone casually appreciating him or doing things that make him feel like he is cared about without anything being explicitly stated to him. Like how someone taking the initiative to just do a simple kind gesture for you (like a co-worker leaving a tin of homemade cookies for you to find on your desk after you helped them with their workload last week) can make you feel appreciated, how someone mentioning that something they saw remind them of you because they thought you might be interested in it (like a friend telling you about a newly opened shop they happened across recently and how it has things related to a niche hobby of yours) can make you feel cared about, etc. Obviously, the things that could/would potentially cause Raphael to feel like that would probably be completely different from the examples I gave and I would hardly be surprised if his reaction to experiencing such feelings would be similar how you described him and being loved, but I'm still curious on your thoughts about it.

Again though, I still greatly enjoyed your thoughts on how this dude would handle (or mishandle) someone explicitly loving and adoring him. I always appreciate how thorough you are in your answers and analyses. It makes them super interesting to read and think about.

When it comes to those things, I don’t think it would really rattle him at first. I think he would find it “cute” that another person is interested in him like that, and he would definitely not be shy to exploit it, but I don’t think it would go much further than that if we are talking purely affection. He is the type to keep people at a certain distance, I think.

I’m currently working on a chapter of my fic ‘More Than Our Fathers’ where it is a bit more of a soft Raphael. The woman he is pursuing is a demigoddess. He is interested in what she can do for him, and she is painfully aware and turns him down at every turn for almost a millennium.

(Tiny spoilers for a chapter of it that is not out yet if you read it)

In that, the first time she shows him affection (literally just platonic and casual handholding while she’s a bit drunk), he feels something else than just the achievement of getting closer to her and he h a t e s it. It disgusts him like everything else that makes him feel weak in life does, but he is (obviously) mostly disgusted with himself for even being capable of feeling something like that.

I’ve read somewhere that what is beautiful and lovely to mortals is disgusting and horrible to devils, and vice versa with what is horrible is beautiful to them. I do like the idea of a Raphael who is just on the verge of literally throwing up from those disgusting soft feelings because of his devil part, but yet a bit intrigued because it does feel nice to his human part that he suppresses.

Also leaves space for some delightfully awkward scenarios: Imagine starting a relationship with that idiot and he falls in love, but you can’t do anything too sweet to him, because he won’t stop gagging and making faces when you do as if you are literally torturing him by doing so.

Christmas is something that Jamil hasn't had the time to enjoy, the festive energy usually being covered up by the busyness of his schedule. It's almost like he hasn't celebrated the holiday at all.

He stared at the tree that you and him took the time to set up, it was the classic deep green color with multicolored ornaments. He finally felt like he could take in the festivities and relax for the first time during the holiday, and what made this better was that it was going to be spent with you.

You stood beside him, hands on your hips breathing out a happy sigh. "It's finally done!" you exclaimed, Jamil laughed as you clung to his side in happiness from setting up the beautiful tree in front of the two of you.

Suddenly you let go and stood up straight, your hands behind your back. You let out an exaggerated "ahem!" in front of Jamil who was confused but curious about what you're about to do.

A soft and bright close-eyed smile played on your face as you took a bright red box from your pocket, Jamil's eyes widening as you got down on one knee

"Jamil Viper! You who has been the source of my happiness for years since graduating NRC..."

"Will you marry me?"

Your playful tone from the start died down once you uttered those words, your voice softening as you looked at the surprised man in front of you, tears pricked Jamil's eyes but he quickly blinked them away and looked at you with furrowed brows

It was hard to drag Leona out of his bed to join the festivities during Christmas season, so you came up with an alternative! Spending Christmas in bed!

You watched the snow slowly fall from the sky from the bed as you laid on it with Leona who was peacefully sleeping behind you, an arm lazily held your waist to bring you closer to him. He helped keep you warm, you prefer being like this rather than relying on the heater. His room was dark but comforting, the moon being the only source of light.

You opened your phone and checked the time

11:57pm, December 24

A wide smile was plastered on your face as you turned over to face your boyfriend

“Hey Leona” you whispered as you poked the lion man awake, he gave a low groan before cracking open one eye to look at you, his ears perked up slightly at the sight of your face’s big smile

“Your gift is gonna take a while, it’ll be way past 12am if I give it to you any later”

Leona adjusted his position, his head rested on his arm while he looked at you tiredly, his tail betraying his exhausted face by lazily swaying in the air, showing off his curiosity.

You stood up and grabbed something out of your bag, returning to the bed with your arms hidden behind your back

“Leona?” you called, getting a hum in response from the man in front of you “Close your eyes for a bit, and don’t you dare fall asleep!”. He closed his eyes as you ordered and you pulled out the forest green box in front of him, you stared at the box for a bit while your head rested on the plush pillows before your eyes landed on Leona again

“I know you’re not a fan of sentimental things, so I’ll keep things short”

You quietly opened the box in your hands “You can look now”.

To say Leona was surprised is an understatement, his eyes were wide, ears perked up, and tail completely suspended midair, after a few moments he finally calmed down and gave you a small laugh

“I can’t even tease you for this one, herbivore, and what else can I say except ‘I do’?”

You screamed and quickly hugged the beastman in front of you, his arms found their way onto your waist and pulled you closer to pepper your face with kisses.

Malleus Draconia !!

The night air was cold on your bare skin, it pricked it in a relaxing way. There you sat down on a secluded field in Briar Valley alongside Malleus. The sky was clear and the stars were in full view, every one of them shining down on you and him. You held something bright in your hands as well, a ring that shone like the stars you were both so entranced with hidden inside a black box.

A small chuckle erupted from Malleus and you looked over at him confused

“This reminds me of our first meeting, it almost feels as though the stars we stare at now were the same ones from all those years ago”

You laughed along with him as you both reminisced about events from years before, it feels like those years passed by in a blink of an eye, now you’re here proposing to your boyfriend, remembering the times you screamed to your friends about your not-so-subtle crush on him.

You both settled into a comfortable silence, glancing at your phone and seeing the time.

Only less than 5 minutes until 12:00am, December 25th.

You sighed in an attempt to relax yourself before quietly grabbing the box from your pocket, Malleus noticed this and asked you what the object was.

You slowly turned to face him before opening the box to reveal the ring, Malleus looked at the box then you with his mouth slightly agape, emerald green irises stared at you in surprise.

He quickly enveloped you in a hug, his head rested on your shoulder, you felt the large smile on his face which caused you to smile as well

“You have given me the best Christmas gift anyone could ever give me, dear” he said, voice barely above a whisper but you heard it loud and clear “It may be quite obvious now but my answer is ‘I do’”, you clutched onto him as you both landed on the fresh grass below you in a fit of laughter “I already know”.

The night was filled with soft ‘I love you’s and small chuckles, both of you unable to keep still like two children when announcing the engagement to Lilia, Sebek, and Silver, all three of them ecstatic and offering plans for the wedding.

So I been plagued with the idea of Ace and Neige being childhood friends. And at some point they’re separated and reunite during VDC. But they don’t realize that they are childhood until after everything went down (I have a Hc that Ace had long hair before before going to NRC)

They realize it’s each other because of a silly inside joke know one understands. And then the two of them freak out first shock then happy. And now the two of them are thick as thieves and it’s everyones problem.

And suddenly Neige is visiting NRC more and taking part in little schemes with Ace, while Ace is going as far as to bake something for his childhood best friend

Ace is a bad influence for Neige while Neige is a good influence for Ace. So everyone is torn over whether or not to separate them or not

taerae had his suspicions when listening to a song, where the producer tag sounded a bit too much like your voice, so the next time you both saw each other, he decided to play detective and put on one of the songs he thought you had produced.

the way your face glowed with pride when hearing that taerae liked the song you had produced enough to play it in front of you told him everything he needed to know. eventually, once the song finished, he asked the question, and when you nodded your head, taerae couldn't help but feel amazed, "wow, you're so cool do you know that y/n?", "you're even cooler taerae".

when you had mentioned that you were saving up for a specific type of headphone set for your birthday to ricky - which was definitely not cheap - he asked you why you wanted it so badly. telling him why, that you had picked up producing a few songs as a hobby and had wanted to get some more professional items to help boost your career, he bought them immediately, getting them customised to your favourite colour as well, so you could spend the money on a well deserved treat instead.

you had decided to pay back your boyfriend for the kind gift with a couple's trip to see this musical he had been wanting to see for a while, where you both stopped at a strawberry field on the way and ate the delicious berries watching the performance.

he was so proud of you and couldn't believe how hardworking you were, he definitely bragged about having such a cool s/o to his yuehua friends - poor ollie and had didn't hear the end of it for months.

gunwook went and googled the listed producers on the title track when he finally got access to the internet in the dorms, surprised that your name was there, it only boosted his ego that he had a musically talented and academically talented s/o, just like him.

he definitely interrogated you when he talked to you on the phone later that night, jokingly pouting when you had to rush to tell him that you were under a contract not to tell anyone when helping produce the song, but your worries were quickly brushed away when he told you how much he loved you, and how much he loved the song as well.

you were one of the producers for 'say my name' on boys planet, so when he saw you in the room for recording the song, he was both equally shocked and amazed that you had been behind the catchy song he was performing to later that week.

Like fireflies, the freed souls had been circling the Farmer for several minutes now, their delicate voices shouting words of gratitude to their saviour from Gabriella's corruption. The surprised young Farmer, while picking wildflowers in Ridge Forest, didn't notice at all how in an instant they were surrounded by flying souls, once cursed, now given a well-deserved rest.

And before being in Yoba's embrace, the little souls want to thank the brave hero one last time for their exploits.

Jio, who had caught this amazing scene during his patrol, decided to stay in disguise, hidden from the eyes of the Farmer themself and from the spirits. The curious elf's gaze was completely fixed on the owner of the farm, a descendant of their Grandmother, the same heroine that had also stopped the spreading evil in Ridgeside Village, alas at the cost of her own life.

Even Jio, who was stingy with his emotions, couldn't hold back a smile as the flying freed souls circled over Farmer, bestowing small kisses on them. Oh, how the Farmer laughed at the ticklish ghostly touches, how their cheeks turned slightly pink with praise, how their eyes splashed with genuine joy that they had been able to help the tortured souls finally find freedom and peace!

And how Jio's gaze softened at the sight of them...

Always pestering him, always running around, always helping everyone in trouble, always naive, always listening, always kind. Always so... so...

"O ho ho! Did someone fall in love?"

Naturally, Daia dodged the swing of Jio's sword, who was not the least bit sorry at the raised weapon against his colleague. For there's no need to sneak up on him like that and scare him!

Giving the giggling Daia a stern look, the elf vanished into the mist and disappeared. In the future, he made a note to himself that he would go on patrol alone...

Isaac:

Isaac still couldn't understand how he had ended up at the Flower Dance in the Stardew Valley, a place where the distance from here to the Castle Village was almost a continent. He could understand the reason for his identity's presence at Spirit's Eve, since Isaac was in charge of catching Shadow brute and skeletons, so why he's here? But Camilla had the last word, so now they both joined in watching the young Pelican couples dance.

Bored with those silly slow movements to the music, Isaac involuntarily shifted his gaze to Farmer, who was standing not far away and also watching the dance.

It was strange why they weren't dancing. There were plenty of partners to choose from, could they not find anyone?

Especially since they are dressed as smartly as the others. They were neat, with flowers and bright patterns on their clothes - Isaac often found them soiled in the mud and blood of monsters, but here it was as if they were completely different person. So mesmerising... The experienced adventurer with the scar couldn't stop looking at them.

He hadn't noticed that he'd been staring at them for a minute, that his gaze had softened, that he'd fallen into dreamy thoughts.

But Camilla did notice, and with a giggle and a sly smile, she brought Isaac out of his daze. The adventurer immediately came to his senses, giving the witch of the Castle Village an stern look which made Camilla's grin even wider. Luckily for Isaac, she didn't comment on this, but that doesn't mean Isaac won't have to endure more teasing from her. Sigh...

You answered most of it, but either i didnt catch on, or i was too vauge in regards to what i wanted to know 😣 I think what I meant was the three timelines branching after OOT and MM! (downfall, twilight, Great Sea) They all had different "versions" of the hero of time, but since Time seems to be outside the flow and is a god seeing over it, how did that split end up happening? Did he create it? If so, for what purpose? Why create a timeline where he died? Unless he isn't outside the flow of time and a timeline split occurred in which he died? Or is the hero of time a completely different person in this AU? Maybe I'm thinking too much about it - sincerely, a curious mutual who rambles too much

Okay okay so the timeline split is still canon in the Cryptid au. I will make it very clear now that Time does not exist outside of the flow of time- he’s subject to it just as much as everyone else is, he just has some more control. I’ve been trying to give him limits to his power. For example, he can go back in time infinitely, but he cannot rewind to any point before he was born as Link of the Kokiri. He cannot exist before he existed if that makes sense. He has no control over how quickly the future comes- he has to wait just like everyone else. His time travel is ONLY to the past.

It’s important to note that just as everyone else creates new timelines and new versions of themselves with every decision they make, Time does as well. Now, he has a bit more control over his consciousness as he becomes a different Time, but the effect is still the same. So the three main timelines we have: the Downfall timeline, the Child timeline, and the Adult timeline, are all different versions of him. I don’t think this departs much from canon- everyone knows a different Hero, but the God has dominion over all.

The Child timeline version of him, the one that did the God’s trail of Majora’s Mask, is the only one to ascend to Godhood. But that doesn’t erase the other two timelines! And even in timelines where he should be dead, he still has influence.

I agree with you and @inkysocker’s posts on the Ni-ki situation exactly. People have the right to disagree with writing smut about Ni-ki-that’s their opinion and they 100% have the right to feel that way-but if they don’t like it, they should block it and move on. Jungwon is only a year older than Ni-ki and people have been writing smut about him for a long time, and no one bats an eye. Why is there such a double standard? People argue saying “Ni-ki just turned 18”. So, I’m curious to ask them-what exactly is the right time to start writing it by -your- standard? If people wait 3/4/5 months, it would be fine? I don’t get it. And why do people have to abide by -your- standard? It comes off as one of the biggest instances of virtue signaling I’ve ever seen

Look, I watched i-land too. Ni-ki quickly became my favorite because of his talent, sense of humor, humility and kindness-believe me, I’m protective of him too. I get it if some people can’t see him as an adult now because they’re having a hard time separating who he is now from who he was then. But the reality is, he’s growing up and he’s not a little kid anymore. Of course he’s still young and still has his innocent side but he’s certainly not as innocent as some people think he is-because they don’t think about him as a real person, they only see the perfect image that he chooses to show us. And I can understand why. I know kpop companies warp and mold idols’ images into what they want them to be seen as and it’s easy to forget that, once you become a fan and you’re deep in it. I feel like I get lost in it too sometimes. I’ll be honest, I lost my virginity at 17 and was thinking about sex long before that. If people think Ni-ki doesn’t have sexual thoughts like a normal 18 year old, they seriously need to be realistic. In addition, if people think he isn’t trying to shed his “cute”/“baby” image, they really need to get a grip too. Of course he’s still the youngest member-but this year (and esp lately) if you just look at the pictures he himself chooses to post and the tik-toks/dances he himself chooses to do you can tell he’s trying to be more serious and mature.

I have been so absolutely disgusted with the hate and vitriol I’ve seen towards people who have written anything nsfw for Ni-ki or who have talked about doing it. They literally have people telling them to k¡ll themselves, s1it, jump etc. it’s so, so sickening, not to mention triggering. It’s not funny/edgy and cute to tell someone to harm themselves or k¡ll themselves when someone posts something you don’t like-and people just say it like it means nothing. If you can’t properly articulate your stance and express your feelings about something without telling someone to k¡ll themselves, it makes you seem ignorant, immature, and honestly too lazy and vacuous to do so. It certainly does not make you seem like the better person. I know the people saying these things are young and callow but it is so hard to see. They don’t understand the weight their words hold. They have no idea what others are going through and how the recipients of their hate will react to being told to k¡ll/harm themselves. I think about how they would feel if someone actually killed themselves because of the hate they gave them and I would hope that they would actually feel sorry and ashamed but it seems like they’re so far in their narcissistic bubble with their moral grandstanding and so grossly desensitized to saying it in normal conversation that they’d be like “whatever” or “good, they deserved it”. These people are seriously not as edgy and cool as they think they are. They’re immature, twisted, and toxic. Seriously, they give me sociopath vibes. They really think they *hold the torch of wisdom and morals* meanwhile they’re telling someone to s1it their wrists and k¡ll themselves. Make it make sense. In reality, they seem like worse people than the ones they send hate too. And they’re also calling people fat and ugly and fatherless (😀?) when all else fails lmao. What is this, the 4th grade? I’m so happy Mel doesn’t come across as a Mary Sue! ❤️ That was one of my worst fears, so it was REALLY important to me to try and flesh her out and give her an arc separate from Anakin. And the biggest part of that is The Shopkeeper, because it means Melanie has her OWN antagonist to deal with, just as Palpatine is Anakin’s antagonist. This was important because—just as I didn’t want Anakin to take away from MELANIE’S character arc—I in turn also didn’t want Melanie to take away from ANAKIN’S character arc. He IS still The Chosen One, after all.

That fact is really important, as Mel kind of brings up if you’ve read my latest chapter. 👀 Because it’s SO important to acknowledge how important Anakin is to the narrative and in the fate of the galaxy—specifically BECAUSE that gives him agency in his choices. Yes, there are factors such as his horrible past as a slave which fucks up his mind, but still: at the end of the day, Anakin wasn’t mind controlled. HE made those choices, and the galaxy all suffered for years because of it—because he was too selfish to change. Until Luke came along, that is. And while it’s a bittersweet feeling to say you can always change your mind, I WILL be exploring some in this fic how Anakin’s choice at the end of ROTJ is basically… selfless/selfish all at once. 😭🫣😬 (the Anakin stans gonna get me for this one. Lol. 😂).

Basically, his choice to save Luke is selfless, because he saves Luke knowing that he’ll die doing it, and won’t be around to spend time with his son. He has no clue Obi-Wan is gonna hop in last minute and speed run teaching Anakin how to become a Force ghost in the final seconds before eternal nothingness. And yet—at the same TIME—the action is selfish, specifically BECAUSE Anakin would ONLY do this for Luke. His SON. His BLOOD. But would he do it for anyone else? Like—idk—Han Solo? 😭🤷‍♀️ HELL no.

And honestly… I fr don’t know if he’d do it for Leia either. 😬🥶🫣 Low key, I truly think half the reason Luke got through to Anakin was through his sheer blind faith/loyalty in him that his father would turn it around at the last moment (and hey! He WAS right. 🤷‍♀️). But LEIA wasn’t sunshine incarnate like Luke. Leia HATED Anakin as Darth Vader. Anakin also TORTURED Leia canonically and also held her back while Tarkin blew up her planet and basically shrugged his shoulders like—“what can ya do, ya know? 🤷‍♀️🤪🤪”, so I’m FAIRLY certain Leia wouldn’t be begging Anakin to change/have such blind faith in him like Luke did. So—switch it around where Leia is the one being killed with lightning—and SHE doesn’t call out for her father. Because SHE truly doesn’t BELIEVE he can change like Luke could.

Can you TRULY see Anakin still making the same choice he did with Luke in ROTJ? 😬 Because, honestly? I can’t. 🥶🤷‍♀️

But anyway! 😂 This is becoming a little bit of a meta post, so I’ll try to move things back to your original ask.

But yes, it was SO important to me that Melanie had a realistic response to being in the SW universe, because with all the fics I’ve read—NONE of the OC’s actually react in a realistic manner. 😭🤦‍♀️ And so it was important for me to show her disbelief at first, INCLUDING her fear of Anakin. Because yessss, yessss, I know Anakin is fandoms little serial killer blorbo 🙄 (and I respect that! He’s mine too. 😏💓), but Anakin also isn’t REAL to the fans, and can be written any way they want. But for MELANIE, Anakin is now a flesh and blood person who can make his own decisions now… and considering his decisions end up being VERY bad… I do think her terror of him makes sense. 😭🤷‍♀️😂❤️

And it was REALLY important to me that Mel wasn’t just connected to the SW universe through Anakin. SO many OC’s are written without an arc because the whole fic is just about the romance, but when you do that—the OC becomes flat! Ya know? 🤷‍♀️😭 So it was important to me Mel gained other friends in the SW universe, like Ahsoka and the clones and even Yoda and Todo. All of this relates with Mel’s choice with The Shopkeeper 👀 (that I won’t spoil for any new readers who come across this post), because it means that Melanie has grown to care about the people in the SW universe, including what happens to them in the end. 💔😖

And I’m so glad you see the depth and strength to her! 😭❤️💕💕💕 That means a lot. It was certainly a struggle at first, because I obviously wanted her to start out weak and grow stronger and more confident as time passes on—but at the same time—I wanted to show that she has a backbone and a strong moral foundation; ie; she’s can’t turn her back on people she KNOWS she has the power to help (an interesting comparison to Anakin, isn’t it? 👀👀).

As for my inspiration for Melanie? Well, I think I’ve mentioned this before to some of my online friends, but when I first started the process of outlining this story, I just had the thought of—“If I landed in the SW universe, and met Anakin (AKA: Darth fucking Vader 🥶), how would I REALISTICALLY react?”

And ta da! 😁✨💕❤️ There you have it. That’s how Melanie Bains was born. Hehe.

I feel like that’s why so many people love her and relate to her—I first based a lot of Melanie’s reactions on myself and how I thought I’d act in the SW universe—but it honestly makes a lot of sense that everyone else relates to her so much, because Melanie IS basically a stand in for every fan in the SW universe (at least, the general audience fans 😂). When she curses in her head or grumbles at the clones’s antics or cannot shoot a blaster shot in a straight line (at least at first) to save her LIFE—the audience laughs and thinks, “Pfffft, that’s SO me. 😌✨😂”

And I think that’s what makes Melanie’s character so appealing. 😊❤️💕 And I’m VERY excited to show you all her journey on becoming tougher as time in the Clone Wars continues on. 😁❤️
