That other guy would fuck it up so that you made macaroons instead of macrons
They're approaching menacingly with a bag of shreaded coconut
now see that would be quite interesting, and definitely be making the most out of the use of time travel
also if someone goes that far, then they absolutely deserve the chance to ruin my macarons lol
#honestly they’d probably create an amazing new macaron-macaroon hybrid dessert and i’d be all for that#but it’s still be my dessert and i’d reserve the right to patent it…so go right ahead and ruin my macarons! lmaoo#i’ve made enough macarons in my life I could deal with the loss of these#ALSO-#fun fact- I once made macarons for almost 23 hours straight#I think I only took one or two breaks and only had one meal#I had to sit on a stool the last few hours because my legs were giving out#that is a legitimately true story#it was terrible#I forgot! I was also interviewed for a newspaper article during those 23 hours?? my boss kind of forced me to do it and the reporter late#*was late#but#she came in and distrusted my baking and took photos and delayed me even more lmao#ask#the hellsite answers#hellsite hall of fame curator’s bullshit

Luckily the "what if the SHARK impregnated our ray???" seems to be dying down and bigger news organizations have the corrected information in their articles, but I wanted to share this great blog post by marine conservation biologist David Shiffman that covers both the cool actual science that got overshadowed while actually calling out the facility for how unscientifically they handled it and for the fact that they doubled down (esp since newer media they've put out is softly backtracking and it looks like they're attempting to play it off as a joke that the news misreported. Nope. They put the idea out there like it was as possible as parthenogenesis while calling themselves scientists at a "shark lab")
From the conclusion:
Unfortunately, poor handling of this story has made it likely that we are on track for another year where the most-shared news story about a shark or ray is pseudoscientific nonsense, rather than about their dire conservation needs, their importance to marine and coastal ecosystems, or amazing new discoveries about them. As a longtime supporter of zoos and aquariums and the roles they play in public science education, I am especially troubled by some of the public-facing communications here. If your goal is sharing knowledge with the public, there’s value in gaining accurate knowledge about the subject yourself first. Sharing wrong facts is not “raising awareness” or educating the public, and falsely claiming “anything is possible, don’t trust the experts” is, to put it mildly, not helping the ocean.
It's a great article to drop in if the "omg shark/ray babies???" keeps spreading. Or if you just enjoy niche science drama. The aquarium world doesn't get much of that
#to call them out even harder than the article does: it wasnt a random staff at the facility it was the founder/ceo/curator who owns it#which im fine saying bc she kept signing her full ass name to every statement#and to her double down post thats linked in the article#marine biology#marine life#science education#idk i care a lot about a place calling itself a science center being so fucking bad at it#i guess the aquarium world doesnt need to deal with 'roadside zoo' level nonsense#so now that something like it came up people doing the YOURE NOT AFFILIATED WITH ME

Considering that many of those interested in Anne Boleyn are female and that many are young, Mayhew frequently shows a baffling disdain for them, repeatedly calling them Anne's "fanatical fans and groupies". The women of the past fare just as severely in Mayhew's narrative. Queen Catherine of Aragon is cruelly labelled as "dwindling rapidly into a rather unattractive dumpy middle age". Mary Boleyn, we are told, "managed to inveigle herself into Henry VIII's bedroom". Considering we know next to nothing about Mary's affair with Henry VIII, including who initiated it, it is bewildering that Mayhew has the confidence to tell his readers that it was all Mary's ploy. Anne Boleyn is accused of "gaslighting the King of England into religious revolution".
jesus christ, what a fucking idiot.
#certainly puts all that concern-trolling about AB Files into perspective#like if he's always had this resentment brewing of AB content curators as gatekeepers....#which btw is ridiculous bcus claire ridgway let him post an excerpt promoting his previous book#the one abt tudor executions; and i believe he's done some guest articles before?#not to mention that i doubt owen emmerson is the only historian he consulted with that he then decided to smear campaign#just the only with personal inside knowledge of their interactions (detailed in this review)#also this book has been pulled from netgalley. ijnam rf sWHEEZING#we are popping the biggest bottles.......#making personal attacks your brand? as a plagiarist? bold.#misogyny mayhew

remember when tumblr was "relevant".. I´m talking 2015, 2016
and people would make these info posts on a social issue in X part of the world in the most annoying moralizing tone "why the FUCK is no one talking about this and I have to scroll through 20 cat GIFs" type of shit
that was crazy
also it has travelled on to insta, I think
#like assuming this is a kind of publicity when it´s literally a curated bubble of followers/following and always was#Idk myself why I (would) keep sharing pure info like news articles it´s just a cozy limbo here

a significant amount of lord of the rings fans have watched the movies but didn't read the books (except maybe the hobbit when they were a kid). I've seen people describe parallels or contrast between the book vs movie and not necessarily tag spoilers since people will likely know what they're talking about
what counts as "spoilers" can wildly vary between people. does spoilers mean "no talking about it at all" or "vague statements are fine" or "no specifics" or something else?
in this case, is "I wasn't expecting the arc with [character A]" okay? what about "it's so messed up what happened to [character A] in [place] I can't believe they'd do that"? is "they made [character]'s personality so much more like the musical than the book" a spoiler? does context for a doesthedogdie warning ("yes there's [trigger] in [scene]") count as a spoiler?
the tweet is saying that it's not brand new media. you can go out and watch a recording of the musical or read the book or look up the plot online. the movie also wasn't a surprise. there was time to watch a recording or read the book before the movie was released to avoid spoilers. people want to talk about things they enjoy and sometimes they will publicly.
#also at some point you gotta curate your online experience#like avoiding tags or articles or whatever specifically related to what you don't want spoilers on#imo 'I wasn't around to experience it' is weaksauce#it's fine if something was released before you were born or could have had access to it that's absolutely not your fault#but it *was* released. you can find it later and still enjoy it#you won't get the initial experience everyone else did when it first came out but you'll still have a 'first experience'#ex: I first watched the lord of the rings movies in 2013 (unrelated to the hobbit) and since the story is so popular I vaguely knew#what was going to happen and some specific events (mostly minor context around memes like 'eagles after the balrog' lol)#even though I already knew what was going to happen (to an extent) I got the full context for things and ended up enjoying the story

Dazed Magazine:
Five female artists on how Los Angeles influences their work
While Los Angeles has long had a strong affiliation with the contemporary art world, it is often cited as being outside the industry’s mainstream – secondary to places such as New York and London. But this hasn’t stopped artists writing their own histories, as reflected in the Hammer Museum’s Made in L.A biannual surveys of the city’s emerging and mid-career artists which illuminates the diverse and creative landscape of Los Angeles today.
With art real estate offering a more affordable alternative (though only just) to metropolitan cities such as London and New York, there is a strong sense of artist community, rather than a sole focus on commercial incentive. This is also evident in the variety of exhibition spaces the city has to offer. From Downtown blue-chip galleries, which include Hauser & Wirth, to the smaller artist-run spaces and galleries that provide platforms for emerging artists, such as Ochi Projects and SADE, the DIY aesthetic and approach to creating and collaborating is strong. Alongside this, the California climate, with its radiant light, is an inevitable influence on the city’s artists, and can be traced back to specific movements, such as The Light and Space movement of the 1960s and 70s. The city’s growing reputation as a creative hub is undoubtedly reflected in the inauguration of Frieze LA and Spring/Break’s cross-country debut. In the lead up to these, we spoke with five LA-based female artists, Ariana Papademetropoulos, Nasim Hantedzah, Jessica Williams, Camilla Engstrom, and Lena Daly, to understand more about how the city impacts their work.

The Ultimate QuestBuilding Your Signature One-Watch Collection
The art of curating the ultimate one-watch collection—an endeavor reserved for those with a discerning eye for style and a penchant for timeless elegance.
Firstly, let us dispel the notion that a one-watch collection is merely a compromise—a limitation imposed upon the modern gentleman. On the contrary, it is a testament to restraint, refinement, and the pursuit of perfection. For in choosing the one watch to rule them all, we embark on a quest for horological harmony—a timepiece that transcends trends and speaks to the very essence of our being.
But how does one go about selecting the crown jewel of their collection, you ask? Ah, my dear readers, it is a journey fraught with peril, yet brimming with opportunity. Allow me to be your guide as we navigate the intricate landscape of watch selection.
First and foremost, consider versatility. The ideal one-watch collection should seamlessly transition from day to night, from the boardroom to the bar, with effortless ease. Look for a timepiece that strikes the perfect balance between elegance and functionality—a watch that complements any attire and occasion with unrivaled aplomb.
Next, let us delve into the realm of craftsmanship. Seek out watches crafted by renowned artisans, steeped in tradition and imbued with the finest attention to detail. Whether it be the precision of Swiss watchmaking or the artistry of haute horlogerie, choose a timepiece that reflects the pinnacle of human ingenuity and skill.
Ah, but what of style, you ask? Fear not, for here lies an opportunity to express your individuality and flair. Consider your personal taste and aesthetic preferences—whether you gravitate towards classic designs or avant-garde innovations, let your watch be a reflection of your unique persona.
And lastly, but certainly not least, let us not forget the intangible allure of heritage and history. Select a timepiece with a storied past, a watch that whispers tales of bygone eras and legendary figures. Whether it be a vintage heirloom passed down through generations or a modern masterpiece inspired by the classics, let your watch be a vessel for the stories of the past and the dreams of the future.
Choosing the best one-watch collection is a deeply personal endeavor—a reflection of one's values, aspirations, and sense of style. So take your time, explore the vast universe of horology, and choose a timepiece that not only tells time but tells your story. Until next time, may your journey be filled with elegance, sophistication, and the timeless allure of the perfect watch.
Keep Curating
