Margharyta Liaŭčuk as Cunegonde in "Candide", Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre
To me, the most impressive part was "Glitter and Be Gay" - the performance left us in chills down our spines - and the lighting, the way she took those high notes! It could have been the perfect psychological horror movie scene. Unfortunately, I can't find the photos from it. Maybe I'll do some sketches.

Hello, do you have any marauders fic recs? I’m a big marauders fan but I’m so tired of reading fics where they feel completely out of character, and I feel like you might know something I don’t
Aw man I’m the wrong person to ask for this, I don’t really read fics very often lol. I’ll try to enlist the help of some people whose Marauders opinions I trust and who might have better recs than me (tbh I’m also curious to hear), but I’ll share the few that I’ve come across, too. Apologies if you've already read them.
I think my most relevant rec is The Night Will Always Win by betweenfactandbreakfast, which is a canon-compliant Marauders era fic from 1975-1981. Admittedly I haven’t finished it – tbh I liked it so much that I had to stop reading it, which sounds so incredibly dumb now that I wrote it out, but I was legitimately getting pissed off that I had to do things in real life instead of reading it lmao. Time to take a step back...! Either way, I’ve really enjoyed it so far. And I’ve seen @seriousbrat's inbox turn into a battleground of endless Snape vs. Marauders discourse, so I know their feelings on the characters are pretty similar to mine lol (and hiii I know you have been in this fandom for much longer than I have, so maybe you have some good recommendations?). Basically this is a good fic if you want everyone to be a terrible person <3
The other fic I can rec is Have Your Cake and Eat It by cunegonde, aka my favorite fic of all time (that I could scream about literally foreverrrr but I’ll try to reel myself in!). This is a good fic if you want everyone to be a good person. Also this fic has time travel in it, so it’s like, kind of Marauders era, but not quite? Even though it’s kind of cliche, it’s also incredibly earnest and thoughtfully done, and it has interesting (and imo, realistic!) characterizations of each of the Marauders. Tbf I’m definitely biased toward this author’s work because they basically only write Snupin (my personal fave pairing), but reading their stuff is like, genuinely why are you writing Harry Potter fanfiction and not a full-length original novel, because holy fuck I think you could actually pull that off. Like, I loved this fic so much that I (person who doesn't read fanfic) immediately read everything else they wrote and finished it all in two days... Also this fic made me cry for literally an hour straight (probably the strongest emotional reaction I’ve had to any piece of media ever lol) – even though I knew what was coming. It was just that good.
Unfortunately that’s literally all I got lol. I’m going to tag some people who I think have similar takes on the Marauders as I do – @seriousbrat @remus-poopin @big-scary-bird @saintsenara – hiii, add on if you’d like. And anyone else who has recommendations of Marauders fics with good characterization, feel free to chime in!

I see that you’re a snupin fan. What would you say are your top snupin fic reccs? And are there any particular tropes/scenarios/aus that you enjoy for this pairing?
i actually think you could propose to me and i would be less excited than i am right now HELLO 🤭🤭🤭
okay these two they aren't centric in but have povs and are so so so good: lily's boy - SomewheresSword and The Heir to The House of Prince - elph13 (this is a nottpott one but i'd say it's a solid 60/40 split between them and snupin)
SNUPIN CENTRICCCC HOWEVER !!! two of my faves:
we'll keep the king - BlueSundayCake + Have Your Cake and Eat It - cunegonde
TROPES UGH !!! enemies to lovers but they aren't actually enemies !! they're so similar personality wise and their backgrounds are so so so similar that when they actually get to know each other, they aren't enemies at all, they've just chosen different ways to cope with it all. secret relationship !!!! bonus points if it's secret from even snape lmao and he doesn't know that that's what this is BUT sneaking around behind the marauder's backs? jealous sirius as he tries to figyre out where remus has gone? YUP
scenarios my fav will always be post prank OR post war (obvs they both live), also a biggg fan of harry getting sent to snape's instead of the dursley's and remus being assigned the task of keeping an eye on them. mmmm ya
and i haven't read many aus of them, i feel like i've just stuck to canon divergent but i would eat up a snupin sick fic. i would eat up, for example, remus sick and always in the hospital but none of the treatment is working?? nothing seems to be working for him so he GIVES UP!! meanwhile, snape has this file with a number on it and no name and he's looking over results and yk, potions master!! he can come up with something. so then he deduces this new treatment plan, goes to the address listed to be like "you can't give up, look i have a plan" and BOOM
remus lupin, his "enemy" from school.
are we seeing it guys. are we SEEING IT

Sondheim getting embarrassed and flustered over realizing he made women sing what sounds like "penis" is dbfjdbdbghdbgd
transcript under the cut:
MH: In Candide, in "Life Is Happiness Indeed," was it your joke that the women just song "-piness...-piness." [Sondheim shakes his head no.] Do you know what I'm talking about? [See example 10.6]
SS: No. Oh, I'm so embarrassed. "Penis?!" Oh, I'm sorry, no. Completely unconscious. Or, not even unconscious, I think it's another Horowitzean--
MH: It's the vocal arrangement. The women, Paqueete and Cunegonde, only sing the last two syllables. The men sing "Hap-" and they go "-piness"...And I just thought it was probably your joke.
SS: All I can say is, that's either Lenny's idea or Paul Gemignani's idea; it ain't mine. Oh, my goodness gracious. Oh, I would not do that!

Ben Vautier = L'art est pas art
Catalogo a cura di Monica Fornaciari
Lattuada Studio, Milano 2012, 48 pagine, 23,7x30,3cm
euro 35,00
email if you want to buy [email protected]

Celestial Electronic | Donato Dozzy - ‘Magda’
Rating: 9/10 - EXCELLENT EP FEELS: like you’re being taken to a distant, warm, beautiful planet in the multiverse SOUNDS: celestial, other-worldly Donato Dozzy's EP 'Magda', released in January 2024, is a captivating blend of techno, ambient, and downtempo genres. The album, which is Dozzy's first full-length release since 2019, comprises six tracks that are described as soothing, celestial electronic at its most human. This work is deeply personal, paying homage to his family and the Adriatic Sea. Tracks like “Magda” and “Le Chaser” are particularly noted for their blissful, serene qualities, conveying a sense of deep contentment and familial love, rather than the euphoria typically associated with club music. The album is characterized by glowing chords and cascading arpeggios, creating an intimate and emotionally resonant listening experience. Other tracks, such as “Franca” and “Velluto”, create warm yet metallic soundscapes, reminiscent of Dozzy's 2012 album “Voices From The Lake”. “Santa Cunegond”', a ten-minute track, is highlighted for its epic narrative quality, starting with a stark, lunar-like landscape and transitioning into a mist of celestial pads and shakers. The album overall is seen as an exercise in beauty and serenity, reflecting Dozzy's skill in crafting music that is more akin to a zen ritual than mere auditory entertainment. The second half of the album takes a different approach, using audio to induce a trance-like state. The tracks employ synthesized atmospherics and steady percussion to immerse the listener into an underwater world, with 'Franca' and 'Santa Cunegonda' being particularly noted for this quality. The final track,”Lucrezia”, stands out for its lush pads, rubbery drums, and a vibrating bassline that creates an intoxicating effect. The album as a whole is seen as a continuation of Dozzy's exploration of psychedelic and trance-inducing music, drawing parallels with the 1960s Summer of Love and a deep connection with nature. Have Your Cake And Eat It by Cunegonde
Another one of my beloved Snupin fanfics that holds a special place in my heart! I highly recommend this fanfic to those who would like to try reading Snupin for the first time. The ending truly struck a chord with me. I vividly remember how it left me devastated for an entire day. I really wish I could turn back time and experience this fanfic for the first time once again ❤

By the way, if anyone is interested in bookbinding, I would recommend using a font size of 10pt. I made the mistake of using 11pt for my own project, and it turned out to be too large for my personal preference.
Art cover by wiistef, go check them out! Working with them has been an absolute pleasure, and I must say they are one of the most talented artists I've had the privilege to collaborate with. What impressed me even more was the fact that they had never watched Harry Potter before, yet they took the time to do some research and included Severus and Remus' patronuses in the back and front flaps of the art cover without me asking 🥺
You can read this fanfic online here.

With the original Cunegonde out of the running, Madeline recognized a high-profile opportunity to jump-start her New York career, and she was determined to seize it. She and Michael Cohen coached her audition piece, Cunegonde’s “Glitter and Be Gay”. Both a direct descendant and a parody of Marguerite’s “Jewel Song” from Gounod’s Faust, the aria describes Cunegonde’s fall from aristocratic virgin to high-class courtesan, even as she takes solace in the jewels with which her sugar daddies have rewarded her. Wailing lamentations alternate with giddy laughter - staccati in alt. This coloratura tour-de-force has become both a calling card and a challenge for big-name sopranos such as June Anderson, Renee Fleming, Natalie Dessay, and Diana Damrau. Broadway’s Kristin Chenoweth sings it, too, drawing on her classical training. Yet Madeline’s rendition, heard on a pirate recording made during the concert in 1968, is possibly the greatest of them all, musically accurate and comically sublime.
...
The pirate recording remains a fascinating document of Madeline’s interpretive skills. For example, there’s the line “Bracelets! Lavaliers! Can they dry my tears?” Most Cunegondes wail the line melodramatically, but Madeline varies her reading and fairly growls the word “bracelets” in disgust - and the audience roars with laughter. Tellingly, perhaps, “Glitter and Be Gay” is the rare number with almost no glitches: Madeline’s singing is utterly secure, and the orchestra plays smoothly despite lack of rehearsal. Listening, one misses much of the comedy in her performance, Peress says. “She juggled her breasts! It was amazing. She was outrageous. Onstage, you’d just let her out of her cage.” The “topper,” he says, was the moment when Madeline put the last of her jewels, a big ruby, in her bellybutton.
From the biography of Madeline Kahn I’ve been reading.
