The Incredible Conga Drum

A conga drum consists of a fiberglass shell or staved wood and also include a screw tensioned drum head. In most cases, it is played in two to four sets using the palms and fingers. Most conga drums have a height of almost 75 centimeters from top to bottom. What makes the conga drums very incredible is that they can be played when seated or the drum can be removed from the stand to allow the player to play when standing. The conga drums originated from Cuba.

However, in Cuba, it is known as the Tumbadoras, and over the years there has been diversification of terms for the players and instruments due to the incorporation into folk music of other nations. Conga drums have an incredible effect on different styles of music, for instance in the Dominican Republic the merengue rhythm mostly in orchestral merengue is one 2-1-2, but it can as well be heard in other tones. In essence, it is because of the Tambora whose rhythm applies to the conga drum.

At some point, the pace can be less standardized and more complicated, and this is it changes by hitting the conga drum on a 4th beat to tuning to full patterns the mark time. In addition to that, the Afri-Dominican music represents the rhythm of the Palos, and the conga drums are made using hollowed tree trunks, and in Haiti and Santo Domingo, they are used for religious and secular music. Also, the drums can be played using both the hands and feet. Furthermore, the rhythm of the Palo is played all around the Dominican Republic, and it is also a national dance in the country.

On the other hand, the conga drum is played in Colombia and is termed as the Cumbian Rythm, and there it is done slowly and is very simple, it goes as 1-2-2-1, and you can hear it as 1-2-1-2. For instance, the conga drums are used in recordings such as Mosaico Fiestero by Fito Olivares and Ancieto Molino's La Cumbia Sampuesana. Furthermore, they are different types of rhythms for the conga drums. Today the rhythms are also used in various genres of music taking up the beats of the different styles of music. For instance, the conga drums are used in music such as reggaeton, punta, bossa nova, samba, country music and at some point reggae music.

Moreover, conga drums being very percussive instruments and in percussive settings, don't need to be tuned to a specific note. Although, they can be turned to particular noes when playing along with harmonic instruments. Another factor that makes conga drums very incredible is that it can be tuned to specific notes like the open tone, bass tone, and slap tone. In addition to that, the particular sound will in most cases depend on the model, size and make of the conga drum. Also to make the conga drum very incredible the conga drum should be tuned so that the slap pierces and open tone rings and bass tone resonates all through the music mix.
