Jumping thru some hoops to get back to a career I was in pre-pandemic
Can we appreciate the irony that during the pandemic i took the time to get treatment for chronic venous insufficiency which i was diagnosed with in 2011 and essentially told to suck it up and wear compression stockings for 10years. But a cardiovascular surgeon actually took me seriously last year and helped me and I was on medication that made things not suck, but to get signed off as fit for duty with this job a man who has been a doctor since only 2017 says he won't consider me fit for duty while I am taking the medication. No problem with me being in pain OFF the medication, but doesn't want me reliant on any medicine while at this job. He also had reservations about me taking a daily allergy pill. Can we say ableist dick?
Oh but all that is neither here nor there, because he "won't approve anyone with a bmi over 30 on principle"

Before me is 3 paths. Which I take depends on timing. I have no control over outside forces affecting wait time. By the 15th my path will be chosen

The amount of things going wrong with this ship contract while I'm still on land... The universe gotta be wondering how many hints it's gonna take.

i have a little switch in my head. its two settings are “do everything immediately” and “do nothing at all”. i do not control what the switch is set to, and there is no third setting

The answer is 1 day, MAYBE. Currently scheduled to process out in 9 days. I have to quarantine for the next 7. So I'll get ONE full day of in studio rehearsal. For a 6 show repertoire.

My apartment roommate tested positive. I have literally been isolating for going on 3 weeks to start this new job. And this mfer goes out for Christmas and catches it; so now I'm required to continue to isolate. Training shrank from 12 days to 8, now to who knows how little time I'll actually get to rehearse before shows start.

I was flown down to rehearsal studios early so I could quarantine before joining rehearsals. Great, awesome, so excited
The day. THE DAY I get out of quarantine the rehearsals had multiple COVID positives and decided to shut down for the weekend to be safe and wait to see if any potential exposed got sick.
Then, to be on the safe side Monday was cancelled too and we all got tested again
Now Tuesday is cancelled!
I absolutely love how safe they are being and actually putting health and safety first
But with NYC announcing so many shutdowns, and then I'm seeing live performances across the country cancelling shows, I'm getting real convinced I'm never going to see my first day of work. And not in the selfish "why me" attitude. Just that , it's getting real March 2020 out there and I'm trying to remain calm.

Not all construction work is equally enjoyable. For example, enlarging a drilled hole is boring, but fastening pieces of metal together is riveting.

[image text: Twitter thread from IATSE. Tweets read as: We are fighting to ensure that the most powerful media corporations on the planet treat the film and tv workers who produce their content with basic human dignity. RT if you stand with us in this fight.
Yesterday, after months of negotiating, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) announced it does not intend to make any counteroffer to our most recent proposals.
So far, the AMPTP has failed to work with us on addressing the most grievous problems in their workplaces, including: Unsafe & harmful working hours. Unlivable wages for the lowest-paid crafts. Lack of reasonable rest during meal breaks, between workdays, and on weekends.
Additionally, workers on so called “new media” streaming projects get paid less, even on productions with budgets that rival or exceed those of traditionally released blockbusters. Streaming is here. "New Media" isn't so new anymore.
It is incomprehensible that the AMPTP, an ensemble that includes media mega-corporations collectively worth trillions of dollars, claims it cannot provide behind-the-scenes crews with basic human necessities like adequate sleep, meal breaks, and living wages.
Worse, management does not appear to even recognize our core issues as problems that exist in the first place. These issues are real for the workers in our industry and change is long overdue.
The explosion of streaming combined with the pandemic has elevated and aggravated working conditions, bringing 60,000 behind-the-scenes workers covered by these contracts to a breaking point.
We risked our health and safety all year, working through the Pandemic to ensure that our business emerged intact. Now, we cannot and will not accept a deal that leaves us with an unsustainable outcome.
In response to the AMPTP’s tactics, IATSE members are mobilizing in preparation for a nationwide strike authorization vote to demonstrate our commitment to achieving the change that is long overdue in this industry. End text]
