Looking @ a K-Pop Group called 'Stray Kids' on Jimmy Kimmel... Really?! In a nutshell, it's BAD Culture Appropriation. From a Black American Gen- X perspective, 'Stray Kids' look like a bunch of Korean guys doing karaoke. Think of a 90s (New Edition copycat) Boy Band singing & rapping to 80s British New Wave music, w/ cheesy choreography that looks like something out of a bad Break Dance Movie... They would've looked better doing Tai Kwon Do moves to The Beat.
Personally, I find it interesting how Asians- Koreans in particular, can have so many stereotypes about Black Americans, but STILL can't help copying what We do & how We do it. Their theft of Black Music & Culture is criminal, but then again, so is the finished Product.

“I have no technical ability. And I know nothing about music.” ~ Rick Rubin on @60Minutes with @andersoncooper
Music producer Rick Rubin shares that he can barely play any instruments, but says artists want to work with him because of “the confidence I have in my taste and my ability to express what I feel.”

“Y’all invited to the cookout” Black folks. We need to talk.
We have to stop letting people in our culture and spaces without accountability. There is nothing wrong with being welcoming(but too many of y’all are too welcoming) but when someone shows you they don’t have respect for our culture, where it came from, or for Black people, it’s not wrong to kick them out!
I’ve seen so many Black folks defend Kylie Jenner( y’all are so hard wired to defend white women and it shows) and it’s atrocious because she and her family have not only showed they are willing to exploit our culture, take credit for it and not care where it came from, but have no respect for Black women and fetishize the hell out of Black men. It’s understandable that Black people, especially Black women and femmes, wouldn’t want her in the WAP video. She’s been so disrespectful. And then to give her more screen time than any other guest star when literally all of the women could’ve danced circles around her. But Kylie got a whole walk through segment. Ridiculous.
I don’t understand how y’all let our culture be used and abused by people like Kylie and then surprised when nonblack people pretend like they don’t know where cornrows came from. Or associating them with Kylie Jenner, thinking it’s just a cool hairstyle. Y’all get on other Black people who are gatekeepers to nonblack people and then surprised when you’re “everybody invited to the cookout” ass hospitality leads to cultural appropriation. 🤨🤨🤨
Remember when y’all also told us that non back folks speaking in AAVE wasn’t an issue? Now, they’re calling it Stan twitter lingo and think chile means the country......or a pepper..😒
Y’all need to learn. You need to recover from the need for nonblack validation of our culture. Cause if you don’t, shit like this will keep happening.
In conclusion, KEEP VULTURES AND UNEDUCATED,NO RESPECT HAVING ASS SWINE OUT OF OUR SPACES!!!!!!

Those things that can only be discovered not predicted. Like an electron with probabilities for appearing ‘here’ or ‘there’. Things are what they are. Yet, ‘things-as-they-are’, are only ‘things-as-they-appear’. An illusion and a physical phenomenon. The fallen tree in the forest makes a noise whether we are there or not. #tratist . . . . . . . . . . . . #ifatreefalls #landartphotography #culturevulture #emergingartist #frieze #indiependentmag #fineartphotography #broadmag #contemporaryfineart #contemporary_art #contemporaryartcurator #collectcontemporaryart #artsy #gallerywall #gallerylife #greatart #artdaily #artinvestor #collectorhome #photocinematica #afterimage #artphotography #laart #losangelesart #laartist #losangelesartist #sanfranciscoartist #gagosiangallery #gagosianbeverlyhills https://www.instagram.com/p/CM5vM6XjE0v/?igshid=1oq2z5rlr6wsi

B L A C K H A I R.
The topic I chose for my contextual studies is "Black hair" , I wanted to explore the history behind it whilst covering a few sub-topics such as the colorism we face within our own community , racism , "black fishing" & "culture vultures". I feel that all these are intertwined because a lot of the negativity surrounding black hair stems from of course, some sort of prejudice.
My goal here is to not only educate myself but more-so others because there are a lot of misconceptions . I'ts not just white people but also as black people , we tend to speak negatively, reffering to our hair as"nappy" or even just "tough to manage" , hopefully I can change that by shedding some positive light on the rich history behind the afros, cornrows, braids, weaves, dreads and elaborate headwraps.
Ultimately, the inspiration came from a conversation I had with a friend about how I felt towards white people having dreadlocks, the conversation did not go so well so hopefully maybe she'll read this and see where I'm coming from, however...there were many other personal experiences where I've felt like I had to have my hair done a certain way in order to fit in somewhere, from a young age, black girls are introuduced into a routine of damaging theyre hair with chemicals and heat products, this isnt so much to critize but to highlight the reasons why we passed this on from generations to generations. I'm hoping to also gather and include other people's experiences because this is definetly an issue that affects all of us.
