People, culture and empathy. This is everything. In biz & in life, this puts everything into motion. Thinking on my upcoming trip to Bali & how grateful I am to get to expand this aspect of my life daily, on both a small & grand scale. - I've always been genuinely curious about people. It has served me well in business, but even more so in my personal life. I truly believe anyone seeking to bring a positively impactful dream to this world, (IMO), should have or take on a similar spirit too. - An active & inquisitive mind that seeks to listen, observe, and respectfully interact with different cultures, without prejudice or judgement, but rather with wonder and excitement. You’d be surprise how many cultures you become familiar with when you move like this. - In all honesty, it requires an individual to open up there soul. To think the best in humanity vs. the worst and to look for 'bridges' first, as oppose to 'moats.' - Talk to people. Purposely seek out individuals with different backgrounds, schools of thought, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, wealth & income brackets, clothing & style choices, music tastes, cuisine habits, etc. - Read books & watch programs on anthropology, research historical events like wars and other geopolitical conflicts. Study etymology. Study religions & philosophical doctrines. Study a global map. Look at the geographic proximity between countries, trade routes, borders, etc. The more the merrier. - This is part of the journey to realizing your dream and being a real WÜLF about it. Holistic biz note before the holiday weekend peeps: In biz as in life, make a point to own a lane by creating the circumstances for you to own a category for your offering. - And by own, I mean create a hard association between your product / service and the new category that's created. - When you do this, focus on promoting the category first, brand second. In the eyes of the market, if the association is strong enough, the category is your brand - there is no separation. - Even when competitors enter the space, being the 'first' to establish context for the category you're pushing is hard to combat. People vying for the similar position will have to market against or "other" to the existing narrative you already set. - The more competitors, the more the category will grow, and as the category gains traction, by association, you will gain traction too. - When there are more options, better becomes harder to assess, so it becomes much easier for people to just look to the first, the established, the market lead who owns the category and context, rather than shuffle through the deck of options. - Disclaimer: People will "shuffle," however, if you're present yourself as a commodity. And in this case, when they shuffle, they will often look to the lowest price. We are all familiar with the phrase "time is money," and for the most part, we all go through great lengths to protect our funds (i.e. safes, bank accounts, wallet chains, etc.). - But what about our time? What are we doing to protect our time? We know time is the most precious resource on the planet, but we don't always treat it as such. We should all be focused on what to do to protect the time we believe we have, more, right? - I know it's a tricky question because, unlike the amount of money you have in your bank account or your wallet, no one really knows how much time they truly have. - Of course we make assumptions day-to-day about what's available, but realistically we have no certainty around this. - So, in my opinion, the first step in protecting the time you think you have is... - 1. Deciding, first, how you want to use that time. 2. Then, set limits on frivilous activities that conflict with number 1. 3. The conditions under which we make decisions are never perfect. - Seldom do we have enough of the information or time we think we need to take action. But more time and more information are not necessarily guarantees to increased accuracy. In some cases, additional time or info can introduce more variables into the scenario and make the decision even more complicated. - Making the right decision often rests on sharp timing - your ability to seize the moment and capitalize on the potential opportunity available to you at a specific point in time. You don't need 100% of the info to make a decision. It's easy to come up with some righteous cause or aspirational messaging to project to the market. But the question is: Do you actually live what you're saying? Behind closed doors, with your team, your friends and fam, in your production practices, and where you invest your time and money, do you actually practice what you preach? - We live in an age of transparency. Someone is always watching, judging, questioning, and writing. So as a rule of thumb, assume everything you do will be seen. - Brand messaging isn't a part-time job - like some kind of mask you put on for the market and take off when you're done. - It's a 24/7 'around-the-clock' endeavor. Everyday and at every moment, through every decision that's made and every action that's taken, you are either subtly reinforcing or contradicting the original position of your brand/POV. - Thus, your job is to live and breathe your culture / ethos / "why" / truth as much as possible, and make sure team does too. Anyone who is familiar with the process of building a business, brand, or movement knows it's very much a spiritual endeavor - you have to feel the light while the tunnel you travel through is still dark. - We all face moments when there is 'no writing on the wall.' No sign or map pointing you in the right direction. No crowd of people of to back you up or cheer you on. - In these situations, it's important to look at what you have and consider what you want to achieve, then commit to an action. One solid, tangible thing you can do at that very moment that will add value to your endeavor. It could be as simple as sending a "touching base" email to an important contact, our revisiting the budget for the project you're working on. 🤯📈 Business Term of the day is Capital. The big thing to remember from capital is intellectual property. Most of us discount our ideas until someone else does it or acknowledges it. BIG MISTAKE. Know that every idea comes to you as a gift from the spirtual realms. Treat those idea voices in your head with majesty and don't let the logic of hard work or an Anxious Expert or resources detour you. Ignore that demon and PUSH. I recommend to take yourself and your quirky ideas serious from the beginning. Treat them like birthed children that you raise into adulthood. Look early for what makes that "child" special and raise [it] accordingly. According to the law Intelectual Property (IP) is a work or invention that is the result of creativity, such as a manuscript or a design, to which one has rights and for which one may apply for a patent, copyright, trademark, etc. I wish for you that all of your creativity and ideas will take your further.
