msblinkbeats For this sixth day of celebration I couldn’t post anything else but this.
There’s no way. 🙌🏾
I’ve been blessed to experience live performances from some of my faves all over the United States and Seoul but THIS is the performance that still gives me goosebumps like I’m hearing it for the first time.
In 2016, @beyonce and @kendricklamar performed FREEDOM live at the @betawards and I can’t listen to the album version anymore. I just can’t.
The ONLY thing that closely impacts me to the core like this despite all the years is my soror @tasiasword’s performance of “Total Praise” in 2009 on @bet. Took me under, boffum 😅
She mothered okay it’s still living in my head rent free

His voice is gone and it is clear that he is a shell of his former self but it is also clear that almost none of these people care. They are happy to be in community, in white, swaying and moving in rhythm to a hero as he sings his very own unique brand of a swan song.
And it’s appropriate that the crowd’s inhabitants have independently and collectively worn the white that we perceive Angels to wear and carry with them because this is a spiritual experience. It is almost as the collective of voices in the room are willing him on from one note to the next. Carrying his vocal cords across a finish line we can all see approaching.
Step after burden laden step seems filled with the weight of the world and the worries of what there will be next but there he is on that stage picking them up and putting it down.
Giving every ounce of himself over to the minute and moments. A hero doing an otherworldly thing when reminded that he is to be almost in his fourth score soon. On and on the crowd swayed to happy feelings likely a truer statement than the artist knew. This was Frankie. Frankie Beverly. Frankie Beverly and Maze. And Maze featured Frankie Beverly for us all to say farewell to tonight in DC.
Thank you, Frankie

#ThrowbackThursday Can you believe that this line dance is now 14 years old? It seems like only yesterday I was learning this line dance and testing it out at the club or cookout! It's still one of my favorites though and it's easy to learn! #June #BlackMusicMonth #LineDancing #OldSchool #PopCulture #GenerationX #GenX #GenXJournalist

The music game ain't easy: Fans are fickle. Tastes evolve. Sounds change. Some acts don't survive transitions in popular music, some artists don't successfully manage the transition from group lead to solo.
Then there are those who adapt without losing who they are in the process. Who are known by both parents and children, but in different forms and phases. Whose careers span decades of active work and influence.
For Day 4 of the #BlackMusicMonthChallenge, celebrate your favorite multi-generational great. #BlackMusicMonth #BlackMusicSummer
The Isley Brothers (/ˈaɪzli/ EYEZ-lee) are an American musical group originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, that began as a vocal trio consisting of the brothers O'Kelly Isley Jr., Rudolph Isley and Ronald Isley in the 1950s. With a career spanning over seven decades, the group has enjoyed one of the "longest, most influential, and most diverse careers in the pantheon of popular music
Together with a fourth brother, Vernon, the group performed gospel music until Vernon's death a few years after its formation. After moving to New York City in the late 1950s, the group had their first successes during these early years, and rose to prominence in 1959 with their fourth single, "Shout", written by the three brothers, which became their first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, and sold over a million copies. In the 1960s, the group recorded songs for a variety of labels, including the top 20 single "Twist and Shout" and the Motown single "This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You)", before recording and releasing the Grammy Award-winning hit "It's Your Thing" on their own label, T-Neck Records.
The inclusion of younger brothers Ernie Isley(lead guitar, drums) and Marvin Isley (bass guitar), and Rudolph's brother-in-law Chris Jasper (keyboards, synthesizers), in 1973 turned the original vocal trio into a complete band and led to the group's reaching the height of their success. For the next full decade, they recorded a string of top-selling albums including 3 + 3, Between the Sheets, and The Heat Is On, with the latter peaking at number one on the Billboard200 chart. The six-member band splintered in 1983, with Ernie, Marvin, and Chris Jasper forming the short-lived spinoff group Isley-Jasper-Isley. The oldest member, O'Kelly, died in 1986. Afterwards Rudolph and Ronald released a pair of albums as a duo before Rudolph retired to a life in the Christian ministry in 1989. After multiple lineup changes, the remaining duo of Ronald and Ernie achieved mainstream success with the albums Mission to Please (1996), Eternal (2001) and Body Kiss (2003). Eternalspawned the top 20 hit "Contagious". As of 2024, the Isley Brothers continue to perform under the lineup of Ronald and Ernie.
The Isley Brothers have sold over 18 million units in the United States alone. With their first major hit charting in 1959 ("Shout"), and their last one in 2001 ("Contagious"), they are among the few groups ever to have hit the Billboard Hot 100 with new music in six different decades. Sixteen of their albums charted in the Top 40 and thirteen of those albums have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum by the RIAA. The brothers have been honored by several musical institutions, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which inducted them in 1992.Five years later, they were added to Hollywood's Rockwalk, and in 2003 they were inducted to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. They received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.

The angelic-voiced #singersongwriter transitioned last Thursday, June 13, 2024.
Portrait by artist @nettiebeatrice
I'm so grateful I got to see "The Angela Bofill Experience" at the Blue Note back in 2011. While she's probably best known for the singles "I Try," "I'm On Your Side," "This Time I'll Be Sweeter," and "Angel Of The Night,"
"Under The Moon and Over The Sky" is my favorite.
Sending condolences to her family, friends, loved ones and fans.
'Like the wings of a bird
My heart soaring way up high
Under the moon and over the sky
A man and a women
A love that could never die
Under the moon and over the sky
The universe is waiting for you
To live a life
That's happy and free
Let's all go out
And reach for the sun
Happiness and love could be for everyone
If we just try a little harder
Like the wings of a bird
My heart soaring way up high
Under the moon and over the sky
Under the moon and over the sky
Under the moon and over the sky
Under the moon and over the sky"

Angela Bofill, the singer-songwriter behind hits “I Try,” “This Time I’ll Be Sweeter” and “I’m On Your Side,” has died. She was 70.
The Cuban-Puerto Rican musician died on Thursday at her daughter’s home in Vallejo, California, her friend and rep Rich Engel told People. A cause of death was not immediately available...
Angela Tomasa Bofill was born on May 2, 1954, in Brooklyn, to a Cuban father and Puerto Rican mother. As a teen, she sang in New York City’s All City Chorus, which featured the best singers from all high schools in the five boroughs. She received a bachelor of music degree from the Manhattan School of Music before beginning her professional career in the 1970s.
In 1978, she was signed by GRP Records and released her first album, Angie, which was received well by critics and fans. It included one of her most iconic hits, “This Time I’ll Be Sweeter,” and the jazz composition, “Under the Moon and Over the Sky.”

So Side A is all from “Written in Their Soul”, while on Side B we played a few of our fave tracks from the Stax catalog. msblinkbeats @usher’s discography IS the sexiest song I know 🤷🏽‍♀️ I know I’m saying plural thangs for singular purposes but I’m speaking facts.
Potential playlist in the IG Story 🎧
So many choices to choose from. I could have picked anything from Barry white, Donna summer, prince for the classic sexy songs or anything from Chris brown, or The Weeknd for modern sexy songs
But these will definitely do

msblinkbeats On February 8, 2012, South Korean girl group SPICA released their first EP and debut major release “Russian Roulette” and headed off with two singles. The B side that should’ve let the frontlines is track 4, “No More.”
Within the team who created the song, it’s the funk that David D.A. Dolan a.k.a. @dagotthatdope added to the production and arrangement that sets this song apart. The former five-member group had the vocals to carry, no doubt, and he made sure the song accommodated that.
