funny update a couple of months later for People Who Want to Know: i dont have the car that got me into this Incredibly Minor Accident anymore. while after the accident, i did have to get the brakes serviced (wow, they were faulty, who knew!), it proceeded to have Several More Issues, such as: the transmission being fucked up and Trouble With Turns. i still drove it regardless because i needed that shit to get to college but eventually the radiator fan stopped working on it (where it would start overheating if the car wasn't moving (if the car was moving then air could still blow over the engine, cooling it down)) and My Mother deemed it too dangerous to drive. RIP to the shitty 2012 jeep liberty hand-me-down with 200k miles that led to the creation of the Kim Moment(TM).
Tumblr media
need to share an experience i had 30 minutes ago
(edit: thanks to @walks-the-ages for providing and reminding me to put alt text, sorry it slips my mind alot lol)
#also i have not had any Kim Moments since. SAD!#very funny to me all the people with systems relating w/ this. unfortunately my brain likes to play with characters like dolls and it will#do this to me sometimes. shoutout to the times when someone would text something to me and then id envision what one of my OCs would respon#with in my head. adhd hyperfixation moment if i can be quite honest.#also i never got a follow up from the other guy that i got into the accident with so im assuming his car is okay. thumbsup emoji#and i havent been in any accidents since so erm... w for me!#(i have only been driving this new car for like 5 days and im Nervous. and ill be driving it more than my old car because im Getting Job#soon.... ough)#i remember the day that My Mother decided the car was too unsafe to drive very clearly. because it happened recently.#for some context: i live 30 minutes away from one of the campuses of my college. but the campus i need to actually attend (because it's the#campus with all of the IT shit at it woo network admin) is a full on hour away and also located inside a big city. thankfully the campus i#live near has a service that sends a bus between those two campuses so i can drive to that campus#and then get on the bus for the remaining 30 mins it takes to get there#now imagine you're me. because of fears developed by having Childhood ADHD i am very afraid of being late for ANYTHING. because i need to#rely on the bus schedule between the two campuses#every day i make sure to leave at least 30 mins earlier than i realistically could. this is both because if i dont i'll be Late To Being#Early but also despite my route not going across any major roads#i live in Suburban Bumfuck Town and the two-lane roads i use to travel are the exclusive lifelines to the rest of Everywhere Fucking Else#so they have a tendency to get backed up when backups happen in Everywhere Fucking Else (could specify more but i dont wanna doxx myself :p#cue The Day. i am Driving to College. i already have some knowledge that my car seems to have some trouble with cooling itself down#but i'm not sure what the cause is or how big of a problem it is yet. unbeknownst to me an Accident has occured on one of the major routes#in my area. as I'm approaching to be about 10 mins away from the campus i start to see evidence of The Traffic because of this.#while being just a dinky two-lane road this shit is practically bumper-to-bumper. moving at a snail's pace#and i imagine it's likely because people are being jackasses about merging onto this road from the people who have had their route#unexpectedly diverted because of the accident.#so im sitting there in the traffic. the car is not moving or it is moving very slowly across short distances.#DING! goes the car. ah crap the engine temp is starting to get high... maybe being stopped is what causes it i think to myself#so now i am Slightly Worried. the car has Dinged. and i might even be Late to School because of the traffic. but surely the cars gonna be#fine driving me the rest of the way right?#advance forward in time about like 5 minutes. i have moved forward but not much. i am near the gas station i usually refill at en route

since the first step in achieving your goals is to state them aloud, here's a list of aftg fics/ au s that i'd like to write some day
- pre-canon fic from aaron's perspective spanning the twins' first meeting till they're drafted by the foxes and graduate high school. i'm increasingly enamored with aaron as a character as well as with an outside perspective of andrew's actions and i think it would be very interesting to look at the foundation on which their fraught relationship is built and first developed
- even more pre-canon fic. andrew's early life in foster care. yes, we all know about the most... gruesome things that were done to him, but i believe that there is plenty more that has affected and shaped him, especially in relation to my interpretation of andrew as an autistic poc. this would not be a happy fic.
- anastasia au. neil as anya, andrew as dimitri. possibly a plot amalgamation from both the animated movie and the stage show, with changes as i see fit. (no, neil is not the prince of russia). what i find most compelling about this au is the story of neil and andrew as childhood friends and then the angst of having andrew, as an adult, teaching an amnesiac neil how to act like a noble while being convinced that neil is an imposter. good shit
- art school/dance club au. the foxes attend the palmetto school of art at prestigious edgar allen university. they're considered the school's charity cases, and they are NOT friends. andrew is a studio arts major with a concentration in sculpture who works in the campus coffee shop in the mornings and frequents night clubs that employ pretty boys in the evenings. neil is attending college completely on his father's dime, PROVIDED he study what his father wants, despite his desire to study dance and music. going crazy without an outlet, neil takes a secret job as a go-go dancer. look. this may slightly possibly be a result of me having planned to party hardy this summer, then having my plans ruined by the virus :c
- 1950s High School au. the 1950s aesthetics fucking rock even though the 1950s fucking sucked. kinda wanna tackle both. plus, andrew already has that james dean bad boy fast car appeal
- an exploration of mary and nathan's relationship and history. i get that neil's parents are both super taboo and both really really awful people, but i have questions and i want to answer them
- neil never returns from baltimore. in order to keep his deals, permanently, andrew kills riko and tetsugi, and gets over 20 years in prison. when he gets out, he just wants to be alone, but it seems there's a ghost haunting him. this was conceived for MAXIMUM angst, no getting around it. i got the idea from a badacts fic and it has haunted me ever since
- post-canon sexuality exploration fic. i have a real passion for quality sex education and healthy experimentation, and neil very clearly didn't get the chance for either. yet at the end of the books he finds himself in a very intense sexual relationship. i just really want to give him the opportunity to find out how desire works for him and what he likes, on his own terms. i read a lot of fics where neil's desires seem to be completely dependent on andrew's initiaton, and while i do believe that andrew is the only person neil is attracted to and will ever be attracted to, i also want to explore how his sexuality manifests on its own. the vibe i'm going for is, uh, HornySweet (tm), but also with a lot of genuine eductional material. i want this is to be something that offers real information to its readers that may have been inaccessible for a lot of people, on topics like like sexual hygiene, maturbation, and sex toys in a non-fetishy way. this will be very very E rated, but like,, in a very earnest and goofy way because sex and sexuality is neat and cool but it's also not all serious perfect fucking. it's just,, a topic that deserves to be DISCUSSED
- mobster au. andrew, having never met aaron, takes a job for the moriyamas to track down a runaway asset. Neil. upon completion, they make andrew the butcher's apprentice, and pull neil back into the fold as a commodity rather than a person. lots of violence, lots of shady underground dealings, lots of plotting, lots of secrets.
i'm gonna put some more under the cut, ones that i don't feel as strong a drive towards right now or that i haven't thought as much about. if you (yes, YOU) like any of these, or are interested in any of these, or wanna hear more about any of these, or are even inspired to write something yourself by any of these please, PLEASE, say something in the notes, or send me a message, or an ask or anything. ANYTHING. i am stuck inside, all the time, and i am so, so lonely. i answer from hoob-gooblin
- princess bride au. come ON. princess bride is one of the most romantic AND most snarky movies of all time, and andreil literally invented love and devotion sooooooo it's a perfect match. "yes or no" vs "as you wish" kings of consent and communication and unconventional love declarations. also,, he may not be how I imagine andrew, but a young cary elwes in dramatic black pirate getup is DEFINITELY a valid andrew
- hozier au. sometimes,, i listen to an album, and imagine a fic that encompases the whole thing. nothing speaks louder to me than hozier's discography. (also, yes, i am gay). maybe a little bit inside llewyn davis. neil wanders through a small town and takes up some small jobs, but sings his heart out through twisted metaphors once a week in a hole in the wall bar staffed by a very short, dead eyed veteran
- prince and the pauper au. on a stealth recon mission in enemy territory, andrew encounters a local lord who happens to have his face. in a moment of desperation to save himself from arrest, andrew knocks the lord out and assumes his identity. he returns to the castle just in time for prince moriyama to arrive with a shifty-eyed, red-headed handservant in tow. lord aaron of columbia, meanwhile, wakes up on a ship manned by crown traitor and fugitive kevin day, calling him by a name he's never heard before, and then he's in the hands of the guerilla rebel forces that have been attacking the kingdom. i watched barbie princess and the pauper as a child and that movie fucking slaps
- little mermaid/beauty and the beast/bride of the rose beast/ladyhawke au. in a last ditch attempt to escape his father, neil trades his voice and his tail for legs and washes ashore on a small kingdom with horrible secrets. because he cannot speak, read or write, prince aaron employs neil to serve the monster in the catacombs, the prince's twin brother. the twins are under a curse that turns them into terrifying monsters, andrew by day and aaron by night. aaron's affliction is a secret, as is andrew's humanity. this is such a hodgepodge idea lol. did neil also have to be a mermaid for this to work? no. is he? hell yeah
- new york private school/twin swap au. aaron wins a scholarship to a prestigious school that will guarantee him a future, but then he relapses. convinced he just needs a little more time to get clean, he makes a deal with his volatile new brother, andrew, to stand in for him at the school just until he can his shit together. neil and ichirou moriyama have been raised together their entire lives, always under the knowledge that ichirou will inherit the family empire with nathaniel as his right hand. they hate the idea, but they have no way to escape, and now neil is being harassed by ichirou's bitchass estranged brother at their stupid, fancy private school. LISTEN, we as a fandom do NOT take enough advantage of the twin swap possibilities presented to us. pathetic
- post-canon fic where ichirou, realizing that the life of a mob boss is a lonely one, decides that he needs... a friend. however, because of the nature of his work, he can't just make friends with anyone, so he decides to make friends with neil. without consulting neil first. cue a lot of very weird, very awkward coffee dates where neil is convinced he's about to be disposed of, and ichirou just wants to know about his cats. the thing i like about ichirou is he’s a complete blank slate. i can make him a good guy, a bad guy, an ally, the Big Bad
- Kill Bill au. mary survives a bullet to the head and wakes up from a coma over a year later. with nothing left to lose, she sets out to single-handedly dismantle the wesninski circle. good thing she used to be its top assassin
- single dad andrew au. except look, look, stay with me here, okay, aaron is his son, and he's adopted nicky and kevin. LISTEN. STAY WITH ME. JUST THINK ABOUT IT. tbh the idea comes from my interpretation of the andrew/neil/kevin dynamic as distincly parental, then extending that interpretation to andrew's protection over the rest of his family.
- fashion au. andrew is a fashion designer and photographer who frequently works with allison reynolds. one day she brings around a short, twitchy assistant who looks like she just plucked him out of an alley. somehow, he becomes andrew's muse. i watch a lot of fashion competition shows
- ghibli. either howl's moving castle (andrew as sophie, neil as howl) or spirited away (?). maybe both idk
- legally blonde au. legally blonde is so good guys

Stubborn Independence
TITLE: Stubborn Independence
CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: 4/10
AUTHOR: brightsun-and-darkmidnight
ORIGINAL IMAGINE:
Imagine Loki struggling to adjust to someone who is independent and insists on paying for themselves all the time, even if it is a struggle sometimes. They need to do everything on their own. They never ask for help and refuse help. Just imagine Loki really wanting to spoil this person. Imagine how creative he would get to make life easier on this person who has captivated him.
+
Imagine being a talented singer at your local club. Loki comes in one night with Thor and the others (he’d rather be anywhere else but who turns down free drinks?) and gets ensnared in the voice of the beautiful singer on stage. Suddenly, his interest (and arousal) are more than piqued.
+
Imagine getting into a petty fight with Loki, so in retaliation, he puts everything on the top shelf where you can’t reach?
AUTHOR’S NOTES: College AU. Loki is determined to take over Odin’s company. He works hard and has a strict schedule for success. However, with the interference of Thor and the other four, Loki’s plans are often interrupted so they can play matchmaker.
My Ao3: brightsun_and_darkmidnight
 ~ ~ ENJOY  ~ ~
Loki was busy with his schedule set on his phone, but he found himself making many adjustments. All he wanted to do right now was to get to bed and nothing was going to stop him. Work was chaotic with the system almost crashing and loki fully intended to cease mind functioning for the next 6 hours.
In the past three days, Thor, and his friends kept forcing him out of his room and out of his schedule. Loki found out quickly they were relentless about his attendance when Sirena was there. She was clumsy beyond belief which made Loki question if it was his own fault the first time they bumped into the other.
Then on cue Sirena ran into him with a yelp.
Loki pulled her to him but stumbled slightly due to his heavy bag of electronic devices needed for work. He let himself be knocked into the wall because it was either, the wall or floor. She glanced up at him and he hugged her with a laugh. She hummed and held him too.
“You are the best hugger.”
Loki laughed, “I enjoy hugging you as well.”
Loki’s phone buzzed and she let go of him. Loki glanced at his phone. “I am sorry but I need to get rest. It has been a long day.”
“Alright! Goodnight Loki.” She smiled brightly as she turned to leave. “Sorry I ran into you.”
Loki could not help asking, “which time?” A smile pulled at his lips as she looked like an owl.
She looked around the hall, “All of them… about the first time… I apologize for the way I reacted. I was in a hurry to meet Sif actually. She was waiting for me to drive her to the mall.” Sirena sheepishly looked at him, “I am always busy.”
Loki seen she was in a work uniform for a restaurant. “You are going to work at this hour?”
She glanced at herself, “Oh. Yeah. I have to go.” She backed up towards the exit. “Have a good rest!”
Loki wished her goodnight and he went to his room. Thor called out for him as Loki was easing his tie from his neck… he did not want to but Thor was knocking repeatedly until Loki opened the door. Thor claimed everyone was going out for drinks and wings at the restaurant Sirena worked at. Loki was strongly tempted but he wanted to sleep as he told Sirena he was going to get.
Loki did not see Sirena much for the next few days. Thor and Fandral attempted many times to get Loki to go drink but he did not like Alcohol. It smelled terrible and tasted just as worse. Bars were not Loki’s scene with the loud rooms and people constantly bumping into his chair. Most of all Loki hated how Thor and Fandral would pick up women.
The day before classes started, Loki heard a guitar coming from the laundry room. The door was open and he glanced inside as he passed. Sirena was the one playing the instrument, a guitar. She plucked the strings and thumped the side. She was doing some sort of combination of string and percussion on the guitar like at the Whispering Waters. Loki paused for a second and then continued to his room. He had more important things to do than get caught up in someone.
Loki had class with Thor first thing in the morning for a beginner science class. The next few classes were nice by himself. Thor sent a group chat for everyone to meet in the dining hall to eat together the class before lunch. His heart was racing and his palms sweat as he walked to the dinning hall.
Loki never handled public outings well.
Sif spoke up, “look who showed up.”
Loki set his things down at the end of the table.
“Brother! Sit here.” Thor moved a chair closer to him, “we are going to have more people here.”
It felt good to be included but it was frustrating. Loki set his things down next to Thor then went by himself to see what food they had today. Nothing was calling out for Loki because he just did not feel like eating.
Loki could see the arms wrapping around himself as he smiled.
“Hello Loki!”
Loki turned with a laugh. “Hello Sirena. What do you get to eat?”
She smiled and shrugged, “I have no idea. I was just going to probably get a sample of everything.”
“Would you like to walk with me? I haven’t a clue what I want today.”
Sirena started the walk as she spoke, “I usually don’t eat here but I heard Valstagg’s raving about the world food section.”
Loki walked around and got some stuff, which was bland compared to the various samples Sirena had. She tried everything, especially the foods in the “Around the World” section. She was adventurous and she wished to experience the world.
Throughout the times at lunch conversations would come up about where someone wanted to go or do. She was at various places already and had many pictures to prove it. With all of her experiences she wanted to see more, she craved experience. Sirena seemed knowledgeable through her personal memories, and she was pleasant to watch due to her highly amusing expressions.
Loki found himself talking to her more, naturally they exchanged numbers.
She was his first and last thoughts of the day. If there was not a text from her, he would send her one. Loki found truth in her words about being busy but that was a huge understatement. She was always somewhere and the only time he got to see her was at lunchtime and around the dorms. Loki thought it kind of weird to go to the bar to see her when she was working and again he never cared much for the bar anyway.
Loki was up and could not sleep, having just looked at the time he sighed out of frustration as he turned.
Just a month into the semester and his schedule was all over the place due to everything going on. Everyone kept pestering him to stay up and Loki felt like he had no choice. He did but due to not seeing Sirena at reasonable times his schedule was erratic. After hanging out he stayed up to do homework and read until he passed out.
All Loki’s body wanted was sleep but his mind was alert.
He tossed a few times and then he reached for his phone.
Maybe Loki was reading too far into it but he swore Sirena and Clint had this deep connection. No one talked about it but Loki seen it, or something. In the group messages Loki didn’t say much but Sirena was a large portion of the messages. Clints responses always made Sirena’s messages more interesting like there were plenty of inside jokes.
Loki ordered himself a coffee on his way to class with Thor.
The day went by but Loki’s thoughts kept going back to the messages between Clint and Sirena. His mind was plagued with their relationship even more with how Clint seemed to be around more and the way he would tease her with some secret. Loki sat with the others in the common room as Sirena played her guitar, Clint used drumsticks and mostly everyone sang together.
What made Loki’s stomach turn more was they were love songs.
Loki sat in the back and when everyone took a break Clint went to Loki.
Clint crossed his arms after sitting down, “Do you know any love songs? Surely you love someone.”
Loki admitted, “I knew most of them.”
“So then sing.”
Sirena went to Clint with a stern face, “you do realize not everyone likes to sing. Just experiencing music can move someone.”
Clint scoffed, “right. Well maybe he could participate in some way over than creeping on you.” He stood and left after sending a glare at Loki.
Sirena waited until Clint was gone to mutter obscenities. “I apologize for him. Do you wanna go for a ride?”
Loki asked with a glance to a watchful Clint. “Are you sure that’s ok?”
Sirena glared at Clint. “Trust me this was bound to happen.”

Destroy my childhood, ruin my chance at college, and laugh when I said I was homeless? Lol cool, I'll ruin your life.
Long story. TL;DR at the end.
BACKSTORY: My mother was a really shitty person. I have 4 other siblings. One older sister, 3 way younger, 3 different dads. Before I was born (im a male btw), my oldest sister was taken away from my mother when she was a few months old because she tried to stab/slice the father of my sister WHILE HE WAS HOLDING HER. She lost custody and the dude left her. Older sister goes to live with her fathers family in a different city. CUE LIL OL ME COMING INTO THIS SEXY WORLD. My dad went to jail 2-3 years after I was born for a while, I rarely saw him. He's an alcoholic if that matters. She was a single mother but she made it work and she worked hard. One of the bigger problems was that she took out all her agression and hatred of my father on me as well as work stress and etc. She dealt with sexual abuse growing up which I'm sure definitely affected her relationships and how she treated me as well. Anyways...
Cue me being abused from the age of 4-5 to about 17. Every day was hell. She was extremely strict and her perspective was warped. She was also pretty big in stature and had alot of strength. Examples of her being shitty: I've gotten beaten up badly once because HER room was dirty. The dishes weren't washed and I got beaten soon as I got home, even if there werent dishes when I left to school. If i walked too loud, id get my ass beat. She broke my nose for looking at her the wrong way on my 10th birthday when she brought me a cake I was allergic too(It had peanuts, she knows im slightly allergic but feigned ignorance..) It was more or less every day or every other day. She used her fists/elbows/extension cords/hangers/chairs/canes/bats/etc. Whatever she could find I was getting beaten with. I couldn't ever escape to my room for long because she would always call me every few minutes to get her things or to yell at me. She never drank or did drugs or anything. Whenever she was upset and I happened to be in front of her she'd kick me down the stairs to make me hurry up. She's put a knife to my neck before and had to be forcibly stopped by her bf of the time. Burned my christmas presents from other people (she didnt get me anything that year) and just other really shitty things. The only thing I will say, she tried really hard to make up for it with video games and electronics and etc. It didn't make a difference to me though, it never helped.
She controlled most aspects of my life. I got by with little petty revenges. Peeing in the lipton iced tea she drank. Rubbing her forks and spoons between ny buttcheeks before i served her dinner. Ignoring her screams for help when she had kidney stones (how tf am i supposed to help anyways??) But by the time i got to highschool I turned to alcohol. I resented her and the negative atmosphere affected who I was as a person. I started to be cold and uncaring. Calculated. She started kicking me out every few months telling me to find somewhere else to live by age 15. She sent me away to a different country for a year and tried to keep my passport but I made it back to the US with the help of the embassy and my step father (she'd already left by that time and found some other dude). I came back senior year with no credits for the prior grade which ended with me getting a GED. I spent most of the time i could with my best friend and started working shitty jobs. I was terrible at saving as i had accumulated loads of shitty habits while growing up so it didnt make much difference. She eventually told me that If i went to college, I would ALWAYS have a place to live until I finished. Cue my first 2 semesters at a 2 year college, I maintained a 3.7ish gpa. My teachers loved me and it was my escape. Towards the end of my 2nd semester during finals, i came home late one night around 10pm and my mother yanks the door open screaming in my face asking when I'll move out. I'm slightly drunk and decide to completely ignore her and walk to my room. If I opened my mouth, that day would be the day I blew up and cursed her out. I've rarely ever raised my voice at her because it never ended well. Now at this point im 19 and I've been doing school full time with no savings. Im also fairly fit and could easily take my mom at this point (Never laid a hand on her or any woman, i hate violence). I get to my room, she rips my door open, and starts yelling. I say nothing and stare at her. She walks away and called the police on me saying she thought id murder her and my younger siblings. I don't know where the fuck she got that idea from as she's the one who's nearly killed me many times.
I packed everything into a duffle bag and left 5 minutes afterwards. I failed all of my finals because I couldnt make it to my school. Things kinda spiraled and the next 2-3 years were me on and off homeless. I survived the best I could in a big city with no college degree and made alot of shitty choices due to my shitty habits. Eventually i found a profitable hobby that gave me meaning and through that i started to work my way up. Got my own apartment, had a full time job, and did my hobby on the side. I hadn't kept up contact with my mother at all but my younger sister who was old enough to have a phone found me on social media so i saw photos and such, she didn't have it anywhere near as bad but she did get beaten occasionally. My mother reached out via email all smiles asking how I've been. Now guys, ive always been envious of the relationship most ppl have with their moms so I gave her a chance and gave her a call. We talked for a few minutes and everything was civil and seemed like things would go okay but then...
She asked me what I've been up to the last few years and I told her honestly, that I was homeless for a while and struggled alot after what she did to me but I worked my way out of it. SHE LITERALLY LAUGHS. She laughed for a few seconds in a very condescending kinda chuckle and then said "I never did a thing to you so you don't know what abuse is! its your own damn fault you were homeless. So how about yo-" but by that point I hung up. I was speechless and fuming. I don't know what abuse is? OKAY BITCH. IVE SPENT TOO FUCKING LONG LETTING YOU DESTROY MY SANITY. NOW IS THE TIME.
There was a few things my mother didn't know. One, I knew for a fact that current well paying job she had was gotten on lies as she never got her college degree and lied about it on her resume. Two, I had access to all of her email accounts and cloud storage accounts since I was the one that set them up when I was younger and she never changes her passwords. Lastly, she DEFINITELY wasn't aware that from 13yrs old and onto the last time she hit me I took photos of ALL my bruises/marks/wounds/bloody noses saving them to my computer and then google drive. ON TOP OF THAT, my little sister had been sending me photos via social media of the bruises she got from my mom.
The first thing I did was compile ALL of those photos/videos into one folder. I then reached out to CPS in my city and explained that my siblings were being abused, how I was abused in the past, and that I had mountains of proof. Since ive called the cops on my mother before AND the thing that happened with my older sister, there was immediately a home visit. They arrived almost a day later with the police and coincidentally my mother was literally in the process of beating my younger sister when they were knocking. Cue an Emergency removal of all my siblings from the house and my mother getting arrested though she was released hours later. (I was getting a day to day play by play because my mothers best friend is a blabber mouth and everything my mother said she told her son who relayed it to me without either of their knowledge.) I sent CPS all the evidence and there's a legit case against my mother now. The next day I emailed and then called up her job to inform them that she had lied about having a very necessary college degree as well current events in her life which sparked a background check. She was fired days later. Say adios to 75k and a blacklist in the only industry you know how to work. I then spitefully deleted every cloud account and email address I ever made for her, which was all of them which im sure will make keeping up with alot bills and etc nearly impossible. I then anonymously reported her to the IRS because of the tax fraud she committed for years by claiming people's children that weren't hers with ALOT of detailed information since I lived with her while she did it.
So now, my mother lost all her kids and her job. Im meeting with a caseworker from CPS next week to talk more about what happens moving forward but I do know they're NOT going back. Idk how she's gonna pay her mortgage now and survive. I'm sure she's gonna get a call from the IRS who'll be looking for a few thousand dollars she owes them. She also has to go back to court in a few months, not exactly sure what she was charged with but ill update when I find out how everything turns out.
Side Note: She isn't aware im the cause of any of this. I plan on keeping tabs on her and waiting until it seems like she's close to death before I tell her it was all me and I peed in her lipton.
TL;DR - My mother abuses me badly for most of my life as well as my younger siblings. I have to drop out of college and support myself after she drove me to homelessness. She proceeds to laugh at me about me being homeless and denys abuse. So I ruined her life by getting my younger siblings removed and her arrested, making her lose her job, reported her to the IRS, and essentially set her up so that the remainder of her life is full of disaster and hardships.

Elite Swing Mechanics
 Buy Now
In January 2012, Bobby Tewksbary worked with a professional player who is friends with Josh Donaldson. This player really liked the information Bobby shared and told Josh about the swing mechanics they had worked on. Josh began to implement the information into his swing and has transformed himself into a MLB All-Star and perennial MVP candidate.
In July of 2015, Josh asked Bobby to throw to him in the MLB Home Run Derby as a thank you for helping advance his career. As he said, “He’s one of the first guys who sort of broke down swings with me before, I guess you could say, I became good.”
Learning about the swing is incredibly valuable for players (and for coaches!) When you understand the movements of the body and how the bat path works, it helps you to work with greater intent and to make adjustments faster. This information can change your career!
Stop wasting your talent and your time. For less than the price of a private lesson (and a fraction of the cost of a new bat!) begin your journey to learning about Elite Swing Mechanics and give your career the best opportunity possible! Plus, there is a money-back guarantee so you really have nothing to lose.
Once you learn this stuff, there’s no going back!

Take Advantage of This Opportunity!
There are literally thousands of players out there (and thousands of coaches) who are working really hard trying to get better but they don’t have the information they need to truly make improvements. They don’t have the knowledge and tools to realize their potential… until now.
The Elite Swing Mechanics Book + Instructional Videos will teach you about the different types of swings (and most importantly how the best hitters swing) so you can identify your mistakes and start working toward your best swing! The greatest hitters in the history of the baseball and softball use different swing styles but they all swing with the same swing mechanics. Unfortunately, the vast majority of hitters and coaches (my best guess is greater than 90%) are never even exposed to these “Elite Swing Mechanics.”
If you are using swing cues like…
Stay back.
Get your foot down early.
Keep your head still.
Take your hands/knob to the ball.
Be quicker.
Stay short.
Squish the bug.
… then there’s a huge chance you are going down the wrong path with mechanics. Don’t waste another day working on a swing that isn’t helping you become your best.
This is exactly what I have been searching for the last couple of years. This information you have studied is what is really going on out there. I have heard so much conventional wisdom over the course of my career and it is all just noise. What is being taught is not biomechanically what is really going on. You are a pioneer man, this is what is being missed. Metal bats and hitting coaches teaching the wrong crap is why this pattern you have come up with isn’t more prevalent. I’m glad I found your information man, it is awesome. I applaud everything you have done man, it is incredible. – Current pro player on 40-man roster with MLB Organization
Bobby, this is really good and I mean really good. – Ryan H. from Seattle
Tewks, great work on the eBook and videos!! Very professionally done with excellent information. Good stuff my friend. Have (my son) reading it now & will be moving it to the cage tonight or tomorrow when he’s done going through all of the info. By far one of the best works on hitting out there….you done good. – Dave M. from California

Elite Swing Mechanics Book + Instructional Video Description
The Elite Swing Mechanics eBook is a combination of a 120+ page book, a new web-based section with 30+ pages worth of content and video, over 2 hours of video instruction and a 14-day email program designed to teach and develop elite swing mechanics for baseball and softball players.
This is the foundation of information I use with my pro clients and with all of the college, high school and youth hitters (baseball AND softball) I work with.
Elite hitters do not swing the way most hitters are taught how to hit. It is time for that to change. Learn how the best hitters of all time create a mechanical advantage and learn drills so you can begin to develop this advantage in your own swing or with your hitters.
What you get:
120+ page PDF eBook
Video instruction of keys points and drills with over 2 hours of total video instruction
Audio version of book so you can listen to the book on your iPod/iTunes
14-day follow up email program walking you through the information with videos and articles
Lifetime Updates
Bonus Articles & Exclusive Offers
This is a digital product. After you complete your purchase, you will get immediate access to all Book file downloads, all video, all Book Updates and all bonus content. You will receive an emailed receipt and an email notification for your subscription to our email list for the follow-up program. (You will need to confirm your subscription for emails to begin.)
Step 1: Elite Swing Mechanics Book Content (PDF)
The information in the eBook is as boiled down as possible. My goal with the ebook was to be as concise and objective as I could be. I wanted to define and describe, not address every possible variation and swing error you will encounter. If I did this, the book would be MASSIVE and it would be overwhelming. The book is the foundation, the fundamentals of the swing. By understanding the information in the ebook, you will start to see how your specific problems can be addressed.
Step 2: Elite Swing Mechanics Audio Version (mp3)
The eBook audio version is great for people who don’t have time to sit down and read. Download the audio files, upload them to your iPod/iPhone or other MP3 player and listen when you are driving, when you work out or when you are traveling to a game. (You can even burn the files to a CD to listen that way if it is easier for you.
Step 3: Instructional Video Series – Over 2 hours of Instructional Video!
The Instructional Video Series provide a visual to the more detailed/complicated sections of the book as well as the drills. The video will walk you through concepts and really show the movement explained in the written portion of the book.
Step 4: 14-Day Email Follow-Up Campaign
After your purchase, you will be signed up for our email list. The email follow-up will walk you through different aspects of the information and dig into more specific detail involving the WHY behind different concepts. This is a critical element of the “experience” that this book is set to achieve.
Step 5: Continued Research & Development
I work with hitters every day and study video extensively. From time to time, I will come across a situation that I will feel is something valuable to share. When this inspiration strikes, I will create a post that addresses specific problems.
My hope with this aspect of the book is that those who purchase the book will ask questions and send me video. I am constantly amazed at the number of swing variations I see. The more I can offer specific solutions to specific problems, the more everybody learns! (So send me questions and video at [email protected]!)
I don’t have time tables for this information. When it happens, you will get an email with a link to the information.
Step 6: Updates & Lifetime Access
You only have to buy this once! Because this is a digital product, I can easily make updates and add content over time. When this happens, I will email you and tell you what is new. Then you can log in and either download the new files or review the new content online.
Elite Swing Mechanics Book + Instructional Videos:
Price: $49.99
I was recently listening to a podcast about ebooks and the author made a statement that really struck me. He said,
“I’m not selling a book. I’m selling very specialized knowledge.”
Technology available to authors right now allows a packaging of content and media that creates a unique sharing of information as compared to just buying a paper or digital book. My goal with this “eBook” format is to use written, audio and video content to deliver information and to create a learning experience. I don’t want this to feel like you are just buying a book. I want to share some very specialized knowledge about swing mechanics and develop an ongoing learning experience!
When you make the purchase, your account at TewksHitting.com have access to all downloadable files and access to all “eBook-owner only” areas at TewksHitting.com
You can download the content and will have access to all future updates.
After you make a payment, you will be take to a page with a form to complete to subscribe to the eBook owner email list. You will need to confirm your subscription! After you complete the form, the confirmation email be from “[email protected]” with the subject “Confirm your subscription.” will arrive almost immediately.
If you already have an account at TewksHitting.com, log in before trying to purchase.
Online Payment Option: PayPal
Credit Card Options: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, EnRoute, JCB
Elite Swing Mechanics Book + Instructional Videos:
Price: $49.99
I wouldn’t put this product out if I didn’t believe in it. It is what I believe and what I teach.
Ultimately, every hitter needs to go through a process to develop their mechanics and approach at the plate. This process will involve failure and commitment.
I feel I’ve done my due diligence and have invested a lot of time and energy to explain WHY and not just throw stuff out there.
If you purchase this product and don’t think it is valuable, let me know. I’ll give you a refund. (Click here for details.)
Thank you,
Bobby Tewksbary

Okay, so I won’t be posting these in order, but here’s a small part of chapter one of “The Witch Report”, introducing one of my characters, Anna Joan Lewis.
Contains mentions of religion and sex.
word estimate: 1,872
“A touch hasty, but alright.” Anna pulled up her jeans, grabbed her wedges from beneath the bed and made her way out of them room. Miranda didn’t stand up from her bed to escort Anna out, let alone making sure the door ensuring the safety of her apartment was locked. This neighborhood seems dangerous, Anna thought as she walked down a metal staircase. She caught the attention of an older man taking his dog out to relieve itself who seemed surprised to see such a formally dressed woman in this part of town. Or maybe it was-Anna quickly looked behind her.
Good, it was just her outfit this time. Not that she blamed the man for staring, the only bra on her person was being gripped by the straps in her left hand alongside her shoes, leaving her small but perky breasts loose under her thin top and feet bare to the dirt of the outside.
The dog doesn’t care, continuing to idly shit under a bush with tongue hanging out of its mouth as Anna slipped into her car and drove off, feeling the man’s eyes on her as she turned out of the driveway and on to the street. A part of her was insisting she turn back and at least get the man’s name, but another part remembered his oily skin reacting to the harsh morning sunlight like vinegar in a frying pan and eyes that would always look tired no matter how many naps he took to pad a day of unemployment. She’d gladly pass.
Of course, it’s only now that she chose to have standards. She could have used standards when she fucked that guy with far too many chins possible for there to be a neck under it inside a fast food restroom and when she gave that lady at the crossing walk cunnilingus behind a tree so good that the children who passed by afterschool thought she had forgotten her adult diaper that day.
But that was years ago, back when Anna was still adjusting to the fragility of this small, fleshy, sweaty, hairy thing she and many others morphed themselves into. Anna reached the first red light leading out of the apartment complex, catching herself between a growing line of other cars in the process, and caught a glimpse of herself in the rearview mirror.
When assuming her human form, she had to be highly selective over what bits and pieces she wanted and could do without. She’d think after years of observing humanity that she’d find a template she found worthy of her visage, and yet she had gone through multiple iterations in the past fifty years. This one (number eighty seven) was one she had stuck with for a little over a month and was getting more used to considering her true human persona.
This was the face of Anna Joan Lewis, a woman of lightly tanned skin and green eyes and closely cut hair that fell somewhere on the amber side of the red spectrum in good lighting.
Anna is small and thin, a type of figure that highly contrasts with the looming, gangly body that is her true form. Her true form was a lot of things, one of which being something that shouldn’t be revealed on a Monday morning in high humidity and bad traffic. Anna may be reckless, though her limits started to pile up at the mere mention of shredding open her car and shredding the fragile psyches of multiple humans with as much ease.
No, she’d seen it happen before. Couldn’t risk it just for the sake of feigning off her boredom.
Her car inched forward just enough to see a mere fragment of the road up ahead.
She gritted her teeth.
Even as a human, she can still feel the heat. And it’s not just the warmth of today’s climate touching her skin and baking the inside of her car-the sun’s rays could only hope to compare-but the constant roaring of fire starting from her back, coaxing her spine, and filling her lungs and chest. It was a kind of heat that didn’t hurt, more rested in the confides of her form as if politely asking her suddenly acquired rib cage and muscle tissue to move aside.
Anna straightened herself in such a way that her back was fully submerged into her seat, hoping to ignore her body’s instincts just long enough to keep driving forward. She was going to miss her wings, all six of them, though she supposed being able to see how nice her freshly manicured feet looked as they rested uneasily on the gas pedal. Actually, being able to see in general was a luxury she never thought she’d appreciate this much.
“Where were you?”
“Getting coffee,” Anna replied, placing down two carboard containers still hot with fresh lattes. “We all need fuel for the day, right?”
“I already had my coffee,” Samuel said, picking up one of the styrofoam cups from the table. “But if it’s on your dime…”
“They’re already selling drinks for the fall. Talk about eager.” Samuel nodded in between sips. “I’m always in the mood for pumpkin spice. You gonna have one or are you sticking to your almond milk?”
“You know I don’t do coffee,” Anna said. “Besides, I felt like treating the staff before they bite my head off for being late again.”
“Can’t you just grow it back if they did?”
“It’s a trick I haven’t tried yet.”
“And if you haven’t noticed…” Sam did a quick gesture around the room that Anna had only now processed as being empty, the acoustics of the three-story building enunciating his voice. “Everyone is a little busy at the moment. Well, accept for the receptionist. Hey, Delia! Want a drink?”
Anna took this as her cue to head to her office, escaping behind the door to slip her bra on and straighten out her hair on her desk mirror. Through the thin walls she can still overhear Sam talking with Delia over the coffee, their conversation soon being reduced to everyday chatter about their pets and plans for the rest of the day. Sam is cordial as ever, letting the elderly receptionist go on and on about her newest puppy rescued from the shelter.
Samuel Reiner had been working at Serendipity Counseling for about one and a half months now, his summer job of choice despite his abysmal testing scores in college level psychology. He and Anna hit it off immediately, having met each other on roughly his third day of work when they locked eyes in between the water fountain and display of self-help pamphlets.
Sam not so discretely ogled the friction between her thighs and skirt and Anna took a long look at the lean physique, dark hair, and big, dark eyes that made him radiant with a certain boyish charm she hadn’t had a taste of for a solid two weeks. They had only exchanged a few words until disappearing into the nearest storage closest and were friends ever since.
Sam had taken the news about Anna being an angel with a certain nonchalant acceptance. Granted, it was her own fault to leave the door to her office ajar while she killed a fly via pressing it into the wood of her desk with a thumb hot with burning embers, her halo partially visible in that way that looked like a blazing half circle against the late sunlight pouring through the window. No one at Serendipity, including both patients and employees, seemed to care an awful lot about Anna’s angelhood.
One of her clients, a recently divorced harpy woman, seemed to take solace in having an inhuman therapist. Another client, a human man fresh from rehab, was advised to get closer to God to truly complete his recovery and found Anna’s origins in heaven to be just the middle ground he was looking for.
“Better than just reading the damn thing, am I right?” He had said once, referring to a leather-bound bible his wife had thrown into his satchel before his appointment. It didn’t seem like much of humanity ever truly cared about Anna’s actual species, just a touch surprised that behind her clever disguise was a being far beyond their comprehension.
Oddities would always insist that the two of them were on common ground, many of them insisting Anna reveal her true self to them in privacy. Humans were quick to remind her about how long they’ve been Christians and/or Catholics, as if anticipating Anna to strike down on them for wasting her time.
The only reason Anna ever withheld information about being an angel was less to do with the threat of unveiling forbidden truths and more over the audacity of mortals to always redirect the conversations to Him. And talking about Him almost always became about them and their relationship with Him.
Talking about Him so casually went directly into the forbidden truths folder and Anna would often have to bite her tongue to keep His private life private. Anna was only ever allowed to say a handful of slogans that normally kept things in the green:
“Yes, He does love you.” “Yes, He does forgive you.” “Yes, He does hear all of your prayers.” “Yes, He doesn’t wear shoes.” “I don’t know why He did that, actually. Ask Him for me, okay?”
But of course, that always sparked an entirely different series of questions. Only then do they ask specially about her and what she does, or used to do. The thing was that going into detail about which angel did what required a lot of lengthy explanations of hierarchy’s and the nine choirs the presided in heaven.
And once the fact was in someone’s head that Anna was a significant part of that hierarchy and could provide a much more through Wikipedia page on the topic than anyone else they knew, they’d keep prying for more. Nothing against them, humans were always eager to know all they could about the world.
Knowledge was power on earth and those who had some sort of entail on the secrets of the universe got to live in confidence that they knew something someone else didn’t, eagerly awaiting the day that their once useless trivia would perhaps save a doomed planet.
These hero complexes weren’t too uncommon, while others seemed to assume victim roles instead. Many people became a touch eager at the presumption of having an angel speaking to them, immediately falling on the conclusion that He had sent an angel specifically for their protection for some incoming threat, or perhaps from themselves.
Others took it as a sign of danger, growing concerned at knowing a higher being was walking among the common folk in secret. Some people would snakingly ask if they were dead this whole time.
To this Anna was always taken aback before calmly explaining that the angels were here because they had to be here. Because heaven was broken and God has been stressed out lately and…
Anna recalled from the comfort of her empty office exactly why she had chosen to work here. Once the sessions started, no one expected her to do the talking.

los(t lost lost, lol) angeles, baby.
I am so bored by and cannot stop participating in the banal practice of questioning Los Angeles life.
I’ve been here 3.5 years (subtracting a few dry months writing an album in Albuquerque). That’s long enough to know that generally, parking/people/lack of seasons/rent/traffic/rejection often exists in grating quantities here. But knowing and living are very different, as anyone who’s watched a YouTube tutorial can attest.
I’ve got the knowledge, for example, that driving 3-4 hours on average a day (between commutes and mics and groceries) would wear anyone out. And yet I feel guilty for admitting fatigue or frustration. I train myself to think I shouldn’t succumb to feeling downright human about these things.
My parents constantly remind me I could move back toward Iowa or to Dallas with and find more generous job and living options. They remind me I could continue doing comedy and music and writing in any of these places. That I could find people who understand me in those places.
Probably, yeah.
But, oh, darling, I have so many friends here. And though we are all so busy and overwhelmed, we stick around the LA party,  just in case. We don’t want to Lyft home yet in case some crazy shit happens that changes *cue “Bittersweet Symphony” or other such wistful sweetness* everythin’! It always seems one of our friends is getting some new chunk of money or TV spot or manager or opportunity that will open the smoggy gates to an Artist’s Life. Or something like that.
This is not to say I believe life should be without effort or that art is without work. I love working. On music, comedy, writing, painting, drawing. I love talking with my friends about these things. I listen to podcasts until my skull is buzzing.
I hate math, spreadsheets, emailing, invoicing, etc.
And so it’s just blah on the soul and the heart to do a lot of what I hate for so little of what I like. The minutes of time I get onstage or with friends is something I try to really drip into. I try to evaporate into these moments and forget that they will ever not be there. And it works, it works, it works. I drink and ooze and mantra myself into little internal statements.
For real. I will be in the middle of a standup set and think this is why I am here. Someone will comment that they enjoyed my set and I’ll say to myself, that’s right, you are right and not a buffoon ass fuck for trying this.
For little skirts of time. And then I’m back at work and people who were fine to watch two hours of reality TV with their husband or dog the night before type merrily away. Ask me how my commute was, as if the traffic angels parted my way for once.
But I know people who don’t have wild creative pursuits still feel pain and get bored and break up and feel crushed and get hangovers just like me.
I just keep getting that Netflix paralysis with life. The open-endedness of life after school is clearly still fucking with me. I could do anything. So I do parts of many things and crumble.
The remnants of my heart post-college breakup still seems to prevent me from making any kisses count. So I am off-kissing for the moment.
I toss and turn around whether I am feeling too much or too little.
I cry in the car and I scream with some acoustic power chords when none of the roommates are home.
I try not to walk sad. In Ralphs, this is impossible.
I enjoy food and the normalcy it implies. Take smaller bites.
I call my grandma and picture Christmas without picturing the cost of the airline ticket.
Lately my favorite alone moment is the once-a-week trip I take to Fonuts in West Hollywood where they make gluten-free donuts in all sorts of wacky flavors. It’s a long drive and it costs too much, but my stomach is not a freak there. Or it is, but in a good way. I spend the drive home glancing at the daytime neon and palm trees and tired folks and try to make postcards out of every bite.
My favorite group moments are at Group Shower, which is sort of a comedy show and sort of the closest thing to a Normal Rockwell family dinner you can have in your 20′s. Everyone can slightly commiserate and slightly relieve themselves, pre, mid, post-show. People ask each other how they are and they respond honestly. They care about responding honestly. Don’t sheen it up too nice. Kick around each others’ dust and don’t mind at all.
I tried to sell some old DVD’s for some money earlier today. To counteract my dumb donut habit. Brought in a stack of twelve or so, to some dumb place way out in the Valley. Waited 25 minutes and almost bought a used Game Boy that would’ve negated any money earned from the discs.
“We can’t take any of these because they’re scratched,” the balding Nirvana shirt informed me. He handed me a rubberbanded stack of flicks I’d already said goodbye to.
“We can take this one, but only for a quarter,” he said, handing me CITY OF ANGELS. A movie that isn’t good. But that I enjoyed once, because I was watching it with a girl named Meg in high school. It was a crush so slight I didn’t even act on it, just enjoyed having it.
“Do you want to keep it?” he asked me. He seemed embarrassed for me, energy I should have told him he didn’t need to expend.
I kept it. Stupidly, it felt like a win. Even if it was something connected to barely a memory. Even if I drove an hour roundtrip just to almost buy a Gameboy. Moronically, it felt good to have a small thing and not give it up. It felt like dignity. I know that’s sad, but now you can see the plane I’m drifting on today.
I don’t know why but it made me know life will be better than this at some point. Sometimes my heart has a good forecast.

5 Movie Problems That Kids Today Will Never Understand
Like everything else, movies age. Special effects look worse, popular slang and fashion are left behind, and political and social contexts shift. But sometimes, the very central dilemma of a movie becomes so outdated that the film itself is no longer relatable to modern-day audiences. Here are five examples of exactly that, delivered to you in convenient list form — a format that will never, ever become dated or strange.

Christmas Vacation Is About A Middle-Class Homeowner Pissed That He’s Not Getting A Huge Christmas Bonus To Cover A Pool
The holiday classic National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation remains a staple of the December basic cable movie rotation. Its most famous scene is a holiday-pressured Clark Griswold finally blowing a gasket in front of his family after he opens his highly anticipated Christmas bonus, only to find it’s a subscription to the Jelly of the Month club.
That’s not one irrelevant scene from a simpler time; the whole plot revolves around that moment. Clark is counting on this bonus so he can cover the payment for an in-ground pool, which he’s already purchased in advance to surprise his family. To anyone under the age of 50 reading this, imagine a friend of yours complaining about this today. How much sympathy could you muster?
Warner Bros. Studios“Sorry about your pool. I guess you’ll have to just use the community pool, which I also can’t afford.”

The Simpsons Freemason Conspiracy & Other Crazy New Theories
Clark is not drowning in homeowner or student loan debt, or the costs of sending two kids to college. He’s drowning in a debt of his making, trying to prematurely add a pool onto the beautiful house he already owns. He has a house in suburban Chicago, his wife doesn’t work, and he presumably has health insurance and a 401k. All those sweet “employment” perks sound like some lost fantasy city of Atlantis to Millennials entering the workforce today. And we’re supposed to share his rage at not getting a good Christmas bonus? It might have been a relatable problem to a lot of people back in the day, but explain that scene to your average “middle-class” worker now, and prepare for some rolled eyes, accompanied by the most thorough and exhaustive jerk-off motion you have ever seen.

One Hour Photo Is About A Creepy Guy Who … Looks At All Your Pictures
One Hour Photo stars Robin Williams as Sy, a professional photo developer at a local supermarket … and we’ve already confused our younger readers in several different ways. Sy befriends a family of regular customers, but his cheery professional demeanor turns sinister when we see him at home, exhaustively perusing every picture the family has ever brought him.
Fox Searchlight Pictures“Developed? Like, he added some filters?”
This scene still comes across as unsettling today, but digitize any of his actions, and we’d bet somebody reading this article is doing the exact same thing in another tab. You know, scrolling through every post on their crush’s Instagram account. Still potentially creepy behavior, but nobody’s gonna make a movie about it.
Today, this photo-obsessive mom would definitely have an Instagram, and that account would almost definitely be public, and random people would constantly be scrolling through photos of her kids’ sporting events and their family vacations all the time. She’d want the maximum number of people to see them; that’s the whole point of posting photos publicly. Really, for modern audiences, the only thing tipping them off that Sy is a creep is that haircut.
Fox Searchlight PicturesHe is clearly the love child of King Joffrey and Flo from Progressive.

In Airheads, A Band Breaks Into A Radio Station To Get Exposure
In the ’90s Comedy Central rerun staple Airheads, an amateur rock band named the Lone Rangers attempts to “make it big” by taking a local radio station hostage and forcing them to play their demo tape. The idea is that an agent will hear the single, sign them, and book them for Lollapalooza, or whatever the 1994 equivalent of Coachella was.
20th Century FoxAnd the idea of guys storming into a workplace with guns could be used in a comedy film and not horror.
Imagine a band nowadays thinking the only barrier for entry into the music business is getting their song played one time on a local radio station. Hell, depending on how media-savvy they are, you might have to explain the whole concept of radio stations to a modern kid. “It’s like a podcast mixed with Spotify, but always on. Also there are ads. Ads? Well you see, companies used to make money on things called adverti-“
There’s also the fact that the band owns TWO physical copies of their song: a reel-to-reel (which catches fire) and a cassette tape that they lose and desperately need to track down. Nowadays, anyone would have a digital file easily accessible on their phone, or a flash drive, or the damn cloud. 40 minutes of this movie would today get condensed into a 15-second scene in which Steve Buscemi re-downloads an email attachment.
20 Century Fox“What studio did you record this in?” “The laptop in my apartment.”
2
In Sixteen Candles, Nobody Remembers A Girl’s Birthday
Sixteen Candles hails from a period in human history when a person could make it through their entire day without getting 75 Facebook birthday reminders from friends, family members, and forgotten high school acquaintances with babies you’ve seen more times than a sunset.
That’s the driving force behind John Hughes’ directorial debut, wherein Molly Ringwald’s character, Sam, bemoans the fact that everybody in her life forgot her special day. Her Sweet Sixteen happens to fall one day before her sister’s wedding, so everyone in her life is too preoccupied to toss an “HBD” her way. They don’t have Facebook, Google Calendars, extremely basic knowledge of their own flesh and blood, or the ability to read a teenager’s glaring facial cues.
Universal PicturesProps to John Hughes for making a movie with an F-bomb and nudity, yet still pulling a PG rating.
Nowadays, Sam would be instantly deluged with “Happy Birthday” messages, beginning at 12:01 a.m. and continuing for three days after her birthday, at which point she would scroll through them, “like” the best ones, feel bad for not “liking” all of them, then acquiesce and spend the rest of her day politely “liking” the full 200. The 2018 version of Sixteen Candles would involve Sam checking her email and wondering, “Why am I getting a birthday wish from ‘your friends at O’Hare Long-Term Parking?'”

The Ring Is About A Video That Kills You … Unless You Share It
In The Ring, people die seven days after watching a cursed videotape. That is, unless they make a copy of the tape and show it to someone else. But this was in 2002, before the rise of the omnipresent, omnipotent YouTube.
Today, the cursed tape would get ripped immediately — probably before it even officially came out — and then copied hundreds of times, prompting response videos, parodies, and dozens of memes that would be beaten into the ground within a week.
Dreamworks Pictures“The Ring, but every time Superintendent Chalmers says the letter ‘B,’ it kills you twice as fast.”
No one would ever die from the Ring curse. Well, not for at least a few months, anyway, after which our fleeting attention spans would all shift to a clip of a bird that looks like it’s doing the Dougie or something.
Also, no one actually owns a functional VHS player anymore. Unless it was uploaded to YouTube, the tape would claim the lives of, like, two library technicians and 73 hipsters watching it ironically.
Dreamworks PicturesAs if a VHS tape could have survived that long without getting eaten in a VCR or taped over with a baseball game.

The Natural Laws of Leadership
Today, we are excited because we have a post from Andrew White ahead of Marketing of Loveawake.com dating site. He is a recognized expert on online marketing. He also teaches self-motivation on his downtime.  He beautifully answers what is leadership in this insightful article. We hope you learn more and enjoy the reading as we did.
I recently picked up John C. Maxwell’s The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership – there are a lot of books on leadership, but when I was flipping through its pages at Barnes and Noble, its contents really resonated with me so I bought it. I was later comforted to learn that it is among the top-rated books when searching for “leadership” on Amazon.com.
Something you should know about me, if it wasn’t already patently obvious, is that I am not a natural leader. I am, however, a naturally fluent and eloquent speaker. For a long time, I painfully and mistakenly confused my oratory charisma with charisma and leadership par excellence. I have experienced a lot of frustration stemming from wanting others to follow me and then being disappointed when I didn’t achieve the results I wanted. This was due to a disconnect between my perception of my leadership abilities and others’ perception of my strength as a leader. (And if there isn’t already a whole category of mental health literature dedicated to disconnects between your self-perception and others’ perception of you, there ought to be.)
Fortunately, leadership is a skill that can be acquired, and it’s one that I’m working on. I have a long journey ahead of me, and this book has helped me realize actionable areas where I can work to grow.
This post is long – I am not yet skilled enough in leadership to write a shorter one – but it is shorter than Maxwell’s book.
Here we go.
Law of the lid – leadership ability determines a person’s level of effectiveness
For any goals that require participation or cooperation of other people, your effectiveness will be greatly impacted by leadership. Fortunately, leadership ability is something you can work to improve: a good start is by better alignment with these laws!
Law of influence – the true measure of leadership is influence–nothing more, nothing less
Leadership doesn’t come from a title. This may explain why a lot of people cling to their titles, say, in the workplace environment; it validates a self-image of being high ranking, without requiring any real charisma. It may also explain why some people become egregiously offended by people claiming to be the CEO of businesses with a handful or even zero employees. (Big-time CEOs are often true leaders, and awarding yourself a big title can help you influence others.)
Leadership doesn’t come from having a lot of knowledge; there are plenty of academics and other obscure erudites who aren’t leaders. However, a lack of knowledge can sabotage an otherwise capable leader; indeed, knowledge breeds capability, which is a trait of the leader, but knowledge alone is not sufficient criterion for leadership. Leadership doesn’t come from being a manager or entrepreneur. As a manager, you’re just managing pre-existing systems to make sure that they don’t run off course. As an entrepreneur, you’re just identifying and executing business opportunities. Of course, leadership skill can greatly help a manager or entrepreneur succeed. And leadership doesn’t come from being a pioneer. Just because you are the first to explore an unknown area (for example, experimenting with a new approach to nutrition) doesn’t make you a leader. Instead, proof of leadership is found in followers. If other people follow your foray into the unknown, then you are a leader.
I’ll reiterate: proof of leadership is found in followers.
Several factors come into play when people emerge as leaders: their character (who they are), their relationships (who they know), their knowledge (what they know), their intuition (what they feel), their experience (where they’ve been), their past success (what they’ve done), and their ability (what they can do).
There is a difference between leadership with leverage, where someone follows you because you have control over their salary, academic history, or can hold some other gun to their head, and pure leadership, which stems from influence.
If you want to test your leadership skills, try getting involved with a volunteer organization and try to effect change. This may be one of the reasons employers like Joel Spolsky value starting non-profits in college: its a test of leadership ability. And as Maxwell mentions (in Law 20), having leaders in your organization is a great boon.
Law of Process – leadership develops daily, not in a day
We need to use our pre-frontal cortex and construct a long-term plan for cultivating our leadership skills. Determine a personal plan for growth; set goals. I found this book to be helpful. You can also make long-term investments in people who follow you; one way to do this is by creating a culture of growth within your company (or any other organization). Tony Hsieh did this at Zappos (check out my notes on his book Delivering Happiness).
Law of Navigation – anyone can steer the ship but it takes a leader to chart the course
Preparation is critical! Maxwell advises that you do your homework before creating an action plan: draw on past experience, hold intentional convos with experts and team members to gather info, and examine current conditions. I can testify from personal experience that it is much much easier to get someone to comply with your wishes if you have exhaustively prepared. My high school chemistry teacher, Mr. Casey O’Connell, taught that to me by making sure that we tried as hard as we could on a problem, and then writing down our specific questions, before approaching him for help. That way, we could get immediately down to business. Similarly, people on message boards are much more likely to help you with a problem if you’ve done your homework: tell them that you’ve experimented with different approaches and that you’ve searched on Google before asking. People like to help, but they often resent their time being wasted, which is a sign of disrespect. As you’ll see in Law 7, respect for others is an important attribute of a leader.
Also, it is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to fake skill. Studies have demonstrated that experts remember more details from conversations in subjects of their expertise, spot more nuanced features when glancing at a subject-relevant object, and can have quicker response times to questions. When you are talking with someone, through your response time and other subtle cues, they can get an intuitive read of your preparedness or expertise.
Law of addition – leaders add value by serving others
Are you making things better for those who follow you? You can lead others for whom you are making conditions worse (e.g. in abusive relationships), but this is not a profitable and viable long-term strategy (c.f. recent drama in the stock market). Value adding requires intentionality: although we’ve been socially conditioned to think otherwise, we humans are really selfish creatures. You can argue about altruism (Williams syndrome cases are an exception), but normal altruism is mostly directed toward group members, and you can even argue that selflessness only exists because of selfish payoff. Perhaps through an evolution of consciousness, we can conceive of all of the humanity as one group, but that would be subject to another post.
Maxwell says we add value when we value others, when we make ourselves more valuable to others, and when we know and relate to what others value. This last one is huge, both in personal life and in business. On a business’s website, we should tailor our messaging to what the customer actually cares about instead of bragging about our own success. In writing this blog, I am going to try to be aware that examples I provide from my personal life actually help drive points home and are not simply self-serving egocentricity (I have already done some vicious editing).
Some exercises recommended by Maxwell:
* If you want to improve in this area, you can practice doing small acts of service for others without seeking credit or recognition for them, and then continue until you no longer resent doing them. * Rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 on how well you relate to the values of people close to you. If you can’t articulate what someone values, then spend more time with that person in order to improve. (I just applied this idea when shopping for a birthday gift.)
Law of solid ground – trust is the foundation of leadership
Maxwell says that trust comes from competence, connection, and character. Character communicates consistency, potential, respect; character comprises integrity, authenticity, and discipline. In order to develop integrity, don’t shave the truth, don’t tell white lies, and don’t fudge numbers. Be truthful even when it hurts. In order to develop authenticity, be yourself with everyone. In order to develop discipline, do the right thing every day regardless of how you feel. If you want to test whether you’re trustworthy, ask yourself: do you regularly carry weighty responsibilities? Do you hear bad news from followers instead of just good news?
If your followers aren’t placing their complete trust in you, you shouldn’t blame them. Instead, ask yourself what you can do to build more trust.
Law of respect – people naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves
This one is huge. Having an understanding of this is very important to understanding human nature. People will only follow leaders stronger than themselves and very rarely follow leaders weaker than themselves. People may follow someone weaker if it’s in the context of the workplace, or if they absolutely need to in order to achieve some personal end. However, people will rarely comply with people weaker than them and they will resent having to follow someone weaker than them. (It could be fun to do an analysis of leadership in the context of the TV show The Office, wherein frustration results from having a non-leader, Michael Scott, with a leadership title. Incidentally, I am planning another post about The Office, tentatively titled “Information Theory and Comedy”).
There are six ways leaders gain other’s respect: 1. Natural leadership ability. 2. Respect for others. Following a leader is voluntary. 3. Courage. Courage includes doing what’s right, even at the risk of failure, in the face of great danger and under the brunt of relentless criticism. It gives followers hope. 4. Success. This is self-explanatory, but everyone enjoys siding with a winner. 5. Loyalty. People respect people who stick with the team until the job is done, remain loyal to the organization when the going gets rough, and look out for followers even when it hurts them. 6. Adding value to others.
If you’re curious about “measuring your respect”, try looking at the caliber of people who choose to follow you. Your strength is signified by both the ceiling and the average strength of your followers. Also, you can try seeing how your people respond when you ask for commitment or change: this tests your compliance, which is the measure of your influence, which as stated in Law 2, is the true reflection your strength as a leader.
If your goal is to improve your strength, rather than measure, then create a goal, practice or habit for each of the six areas. Ask people in your life who are closest to you what they respect most about you, and ask them to tell you in which areas you most need to grow. Then chart your course based on their honest feedback.
Law of intuition – leaders evaluate everything with a leadership bias
Leaders read a lot of things: leaders read situations, leaders read trends, leaders read their resources, leaders read people, and leaders read themselves. Leaders are intuitive in their areas of strength.
In order to grow in this area, I’ve been working on my ability to read people. If this is something you’re interested in, you can read my notes on Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman or What Every Body Is Saying by Joe Navarro. Paul Ekman’s book Unmasking the Face is also fairly good, and he has an online course to train your ability to quickly interpret emotions. I’m going to sign up for it and review it soon.
Maxwell advises, “Think about your current projects or goals. Imagine how you can accomplish them without doing any of the work yourself…except by recruiting, empowering, and motivating others.”
Ask, Who is the best person to take this on? What resources do we possess that can help us? What will this take financially? How can I encourage my team to achieve success?
Law of magnetism – who you are is who you attract
People attract others of the similar generation, attitude, background, values, energy, giftedness, and leadership ability. Be cognizant of that. As Sequoia Capital, one of the world’s elite venture capital firms says on their webpage explaining their criterion for companies they choose to invest in: “A company’s DNA is set in the first 90 days. All team members are the smartest or most clever in their domain. ‘A’ level founders attract an “A” level team.” Other books also express the notion that “B” founders attract a “C” level team, and so forth.
Law of connection – leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand
Maxwell says that there are eight steps to connection:
Connect with yourself 2. Communicate with openness and sincerity 3. Know your audience 4. Live your message 5. Go to where they are 6. Focus on them, not yourself 7. Believe in them 8. Offer direction and hope
He also offers the helpful maxim, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
Law of the inner circle – a leader’s potential is determined by those closest to him
On selecting your inner circle, ask: 1. Do they have high influence with others? 2. Do they bring a complimentary gift to the table? 3. Do they hold a strategic position in their organization? 4. Do they add value to me and to the organization? seek people who help you improve 5. Do they positively impact other inner circle members?
A “yes” answer to the above five criteria is not sufficient grounds for inclusion, but Maxwell cautions that a single no is grounds for exclusion. He adds that in general, you should look for people who evince excellence, maturity, and good character in everything they do.
Law of empowerment – only secure people give power to others
If you’re feeling insecure about this, Maxwell claims the paradoxical “making yourself dispensable, you actually make yourself indispensable”. Unfortunately, he does not justify it from a logical perspective, but it seems intuitively right and I’m ready to believe him based on his extensive leadership experience. Maybe the paradox is true because having the ability to empower people is a leadership trait, and strong leaders are always desirable.
Also, he recommends that you start believing in your people. Dwell on their positive qualities and characteristics; look for their greatest strengths and envision how they could leverage those strengths to achieve significant things. You gain nothing by dwelling on their weaknesses (except, perhaps, when evaluating for termination or reassignment). As Dale Carnegie advises, “Don’t criticize, condemn or complain.”
Law of the picture – people do what people see
There’s a reason that “do as I say, not as I do” is such an ineffective leadership strategy. We are mimetic learners and more readily learn by imitation rather than through explicit instruction.
Some points: 1. Followers are always watching what you do 2. It’s easier to teach what’s right than to do what’s right 3. We should work on changing ourselves before trying to improve others 4. According to workers surveyed, the most valuable gift a leader can give is being a good example
Mission provides purpose, answering “why?” Vision provides a picture, answering “what?” The strategy provides a plan, answering “how?”
If you want to improve your alignment with the law of the picture, list three to five things you wish your people did better than they currently do. Now, grade your performance on them. If your self-scores are low, then you need to change your behavior. If your scores are high, then you need to make your example more visible to your people.
Law of buy-in – people buy into the leader, then the vision
The leader finds the dream and then the people; the people find the leader and then the dream. If you are struggling to find people willing to listen to your great idea, perhaps you should consider improving your leadership skills.
The law of victory – leaders find a way for the team to win
The best leaders are relentless in their pursuit of group victory. Leadership is responsible, losing is unacceptable, passion is unquenchable, creativity is essential, quitting is unthinkable, commitment is unquestionable, victory is inevitable.
There are three components that lead to victory: 1. Unity of vision, with everyone sharing a common agenda. This is crucial, and unfortunately, many people have their own personal agendas (of advancement, or psychology game-play) that really work against project success. 2. Diversity of skills 3. A leader dedicated to victory and raising players to their potential
Law of the big mo – momentum is a leader’s best friend
In top-tier organizations, there is a spirit of excellence that produces positive upward momentum.
Momentum is the great exaggerator 2. Momentum makes leaders look better than they are 3. Momentum helps followers perform better than they are 4. Momentum is easier to steer than start 5. Momentum is the most powerful change agent 6. Momentum is the leader’s responsibility 7. Momentum begins inside the leader
In order to foster momentum, continually praise effort, but reward and celebrate accomplishments. I’m not certain about the best way to reward someone, whether it’s through social rewards, cash incentives, or cash equivalents (e.g. sports tickets). Studies have repeatedly demonstrated that achievement-based cash awards only work in a mechanical environment, like a factory or homomorphisms thereof, and not in environments requiring creative thinking: in those environments, it actually suppresses performance. My intuition is that cash equivalents are best.
Early wins are critical, so try to see how quickly you can build some kind of momentum.
Law of priorities – leaders understand that activity is not necessarily accomplishment
The Pareto principle, as applied to business, states that 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort.
If you want to improve in this area, three questions are important:
What is required? 2. What gives the greatest return? 3. What brings the greatest reward?
List your answers to the above three questions, and then delegate or eliminate things from your life that wasn’t listed. As Hiten Shah says, “Do what you love and outsource the rest.” One thing I have to do in my business is making spec documents. The truth of the matter is, this is something I can easily teach others to a point that they could easily do it 80% as well as me, and probably exceed me with practice. I am going to write a blog post on how to create kick-ass spec documents, and then I can just hire someone else to do them for me.
Law of sacrifice – a leader must give up to go up
There is no success without sacrifice. Leaders are often asked to give up more than others. You must keep giving up to stay up; there’s a common fallacy that once you’ve reached the finish line, you can revert to old behaviors. And the higher the level of leadership, the greater the sacrifice.
Make two lists: things you are willing to give up in order to go up, and the things you are not willing to sacrifice to advance. I’ve made some sacrifices already, such as in my diet (avoiding meat, raw and refined sugar, and other indulgences). I’ve stopped smoking weed, and I’m planning on making a post on how to stop smoking, targeted towards people who are thinking about quitting. Also, I’ve really cut down on my alcohol consumption; I rarely drink when I go out. (This doesn’t pose any social problems, since if I want to drink something when I’m out, I order water and tip the bartender, and nobody really cares.) Something I should give up, but haven’t yet, is negative thinking. I am working on it, though. One way I’m tackling it is through journaling gratitude at GratitudeLog.com (I should make this a daily practice).
Something I’m not yet willing to give up is playing basketball.
Law of timing – when to lead is as important as what to do and where to go
Timing requires an understanding of the situation, maturity (right motives), confidence, decisiveness, experience, intuition (e.g. about timing and morale), and preparation (if the timing isn’t right, the leader must create those conditions).
Law of explosive growth – to add growth, lead followers–to multiply, lead leaders
Leaders who develop leaders want to be succeeded. As I mentioned earlier, when you make yourself dispensable, you paradoxically become indispensable. Leaders who develop leaders develop the top 20 percent; leaders who develop leaders focus on strengths; leaders who develop leaders treat individuals differently, focusing on the highest-performing individuals; leaders who develop leaders invest time in others, building for the very long-term.
Unfortunately, developing leaders is not an “add-water-and-stir proposition”. Leaders are hard to find (they don’t flock, like most humans/other animals), they’re hard to gather and hard to keep.
There are three stages of developing leaders: stage 1 is developing yourself. Stage 2 is developing your team. And stage 3 is developing leaders.
Law of legacy – a leader’s lasting value is measured by succession
The recipe:
Know the legacy you want to leave 2. Live the legacy you want to leave 3. Choose who will carry on your legacy 4. Make sure you pass the baton
There’s an exercise that can help with steps one through three: imagine that you’re attending your own funeral and somehow have the ability to hear what people are saying at your eulogy. What do they say about you? Now consider what you’d want them to say about you – and act accordingly to shape their future behavior, today. Others may benefit from Steve Pavlina’s exercise on finding your life purpose. This may be my weakest area; right now, I don’t have any strong purpose. I do know that there’s more work I need to do in order to uncover it.
* * *
By reading this book and posting these “laws”, I am affirming Maxwell’s influence. Do I think that this list is comprehensive and exhaustive? No. Do I think the 21 laws are “irrefutable”? Not necessarily. But as Max DePree says, “The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality.” (Recall Steve Jobs’s famous “reality distortion field”.) DePree’s claim makes sense in a tribal sort of way; our realities are socially constructed, and who best to set the tone or frame, then the leader? So Maxwell’s use of definitive language, “irrefutable”, is understandable. I hope this post has benefited you in your quest to improve yourself as a leader. I know it’s benefited me. If you want to check out the book on Amazon, you can do so here.

Destroy my childhood, ruin my chance at college, and laugh when I said I was homeless? Lol cool, I'll ruin your f*cking life.
warning: this is a VERY long story with few updates and TL:DR at the end.
One of the bigger problems was that she took out all her aggression and hatred of my father on me as well as work stress and etc.
The dishes weren't washed and I got beaten soon as I got home, even if there weren't dishes when I left to school.
I failed all of my finals because I couldn't make it to my school. Things kinda spiraled and the next 2-3 years were me on and off homeless. I survived the best I could in a big city with no college degree and made a lot of shitty choices due to my shitty habits.
She asked me what I've been up to the last few years and I told her honestly, that I was homeless for a while and struggled a lot after what she did to me but I worked my way out of it.
Updates:
1) I am psychologically not in the position to take care of my younger siblings or take on a parental role. I came very close to suicide 2 years ago and im just trying to work on my alcohol problem and other habits that keep me in a cycle of instability. No I haven't been to any programs or therapy, I don't think it will help me in regards to my nearly constant apathy and etc.
2) My 2 youngest siblings weren't really bothered much. It was mostly my little sister after I left who got beatings but luckily it wasn't anything near the level I had to deal with.
3) Im also incapable of taking custody because I don't have an apartment anymore due to bad decisions I made while drinking recently. So I'm back to homeless but I crash with a friend once in a awhile. I am very well aware I am an influence on my younger siblings and I'm trying to stay consistent with doing everything I can to be a better and more stable person for them so that maybe I can finally build a real relationship with someone in my family. I'm sorry to disappoint everyone who keeps wishing me more success.
4) Aside from my little siblings, I have zero contact with anyone else in my family. And even then, its been very rare because I had to avoid my mother to see them and didn't want her knowing i kept in contact (Meeting my little sister after school, facetime, etc). The rest of my family were well aware of what she did and distanced themselves. I don't plan on reaching out to them as im not good at maintaining relationships with mostly anyone anyways.

Thank you,

Thank you,
