62 Years Ago

62 years ago today, a U-2 spy plane flying over Cuba captured these images of a Soviet missile site there, thus beginning the Cuban Missile Crisis (despite President Kennedy not being briefed on the photos until the 16th, beginning the infamous “thirteen days”).

After one day of travelling to different places and events, the six-state trip was cut short on October 20th. The president had to rush back to Washington due to the increasingly urgent Cuban crisis. In order to avoid public suspicion, he was diagnosed with a “cold”.

So 62 years ago this week the entire planet and all of humanity was on the verge of nuclear annihilation over the Cuban missile crisis and 62 years ago, October 21. I was born what time to be alive Jesus!

now that we're 60+ years on from the cuban missile crisis, do you have any restrospectives that you'd like to share? is there anything you would have handled differently?

Absolutely. The shame I felt when I discovered American missiles were stationed in Turkey at the time was insurmountable. I thank God that I did not cave to the pressure of my advisors to "bomb [the innocent people of Cuba] back to the Stone Age." It was one of the biggest embarrassments of my Presidency. It is a testament to the kindness of God that our country, and the world, was not destroyed during those tense negotiations. However, I truly believe if my life had not been cut short, I would have been able to redeem myself, making up for these errors tenfold. If I could do it again, I would never have let those missiles remain stationed in Turkey, and I would have came clean, facing the American public as a President should, rather than cowering behind intelligence agencies. But there's nothing I can do about it now.
