Baby is beyond heartbroken

His world was already turned upside down when you lost your memory

But at least then he still had hope that you would remember

He’d spend hours dreaming that you’d wake up with all of your memories intact and you’d remember him

Afterwards you’d go back to how you were

Stealing kisses, making plans for the future…..

But that was all it was…a dream

He was sooo happy for you when your memories returned

It had been hard to see you since the attack

There was no love in those eyes anymore…..not towards him at least

He watched as you fell in love with the ambassador

It was breaking him apart

As much as he’d hoped, dreamed, wished upon every star in the night sky that you’d still love him, he knew deep down that it might not happen

He loved seeing you so happy, especially after enduring so much pain

But it was hard, so hard to watch as you did the things you’d used to do with him, with someone else

The stolen kisses, secretive glances when you thought nobody was watching, laughing together over some inside joke

He wanted to scream and cry

He wanted to march up to the gates of Eonia and demand an explanation as to why this was happening

But he didn’t

Instead he smiled and laughed

Reassured you that there were no hard feelings and that he would support you no matter what

He’d listen to you talk about the ambassador and he would ask questions in turn

He willed himself to keep the pain off his face as he watched you two together

After your coronation he went back to Castile

He didn’t want to leave but he couldn’t stay there, not right now

He tries his best to move on but it takes a long long time

Never truly gets over you

He caries so much guilt around for the rest of his life as he blames himself for what happened

But he is eternally grateful to still have you in his life

Possibly far fetched theory time:

What if Gwydion is working with MC's dad somehow? I love him as much as the next person but he's... too perfect. Too unassumingly mysterious. There has to be more to his character that is yet to be revealed. Especially when compared to Theo and Rian's secrets/ulterior motivations.

I've kind of been suspicious of Gwydion from the beginning. What's his angle? He's already a powerful and beloved fae king, what benefit would he gain from forming a better alliance with Arvore, even with something as major as marriage? Thinking that he's just involved out of the goodness of his heart or even just curiosity is a nice idea, but I seriously doubt it. He's a fantastic story teller and has a very romantic and distracting way of talking about Isla del Strella, fae & life in general but also reveals very little about himself when you think about it. You could argue him talking about the Thrashing of the Ghouls was him opening up, but other than the one line about his nightmares, a lot of that is probably public knowledge, or at least not some great personal secret.

What if his personal experiences with dark magic have changed him? Or he had to change/give up something/corrupt himself somehow to win back the forests? To quote his chapter 3 paid scene: "I was able to use it (the dark magic) to our advantage, but following the void for that long... The more you open yourself up to dark magic, no matter the purpose, the harder it can be to shut it out. That was years ago, but sometimes I still wake at night feeling as if I'm falling into the abyss." Maybe Gwydion's actually giving King Braylon the access to & knowledge of dark magic he needs to carry out the attacks, rise from his comatose state, etc.?

Maybe he pretends to be suspicious of Cordelia in chapter 5 in an attempt to distract from his own involvement?

Or maybe they're both in on it and that's why Cordelia makes a somewhat strange point to single Gwydion out to essentially spend the rest of that day alone with her working on the wards?

Maybe he pretended/set up to be paralyzed & attacked by the dark magic to take him off the list of possible suspects?

Though that doesn't explain the falling stone... I doubt he would willingly have that happen to him, even if he was sure MC would save him, there would still be a possibility that they wouldn't/couldn't.

What are your guy's thoughts? I'm sure I'm forgetting some evidence for and against Gwydion's guilt.

This is so good.....it sort of reminds me of Blades of Light and Shadow over on Choices. I'm a sucker for a great fantasy story and this one is really working it's way up to being a favorite.

Excuse me?! Maeve, I get you're upset and all but that attitude is misplaced.

Damn straight he is mad. The hell is she thinking, implying he has anything to do with this. Also what a cool contrast: the flaming ship and his icy voice.

Aww......I also want to take a second to say how much I love this MC. Save Theo from a burning ship? ☑️ Learn how to wield a dagger? ☑️ All around badass in the face of danger? ☑️

Rian has just told MC something about his past and it's tragic. My MC wraps her arms around him and he says he doesn't want her pity. This response is beautiful.

He has fallen hard and fast.....I love that trope: the character who is not expecting to ever fall in love and has sort of accepted it, maybe living that rake lifestyle, suddenly finds themselves absolutely overrun with strong emotions and they just go...😳

.....cue the sound of screeching brakes.

I ended up going with the option to continue trusting him and it was worth it for this sentence. My heart just clenched.

The chapter ends with this ominous image of a blue sky and sunshine at the top and dark magic curling up menacingly at the bottom. Creepy.

Courting The Crown- Thrones Of Temptation: Part 1

An upcoming festival has Arvore’s Ruler stressed and in need of relief from their royal duties. Luckily for them, Rian has just returned from his diplomatic mission. What will happen when the head of Arvore and their lover finally reunite? 💕

Light filtered through the stained glass windows of the throne room casting it into a colourful dreamscape; a gentle breeze swept through as the large double doors closed, signalling the end of the arrival of foreign ambassadors. It has been several months since the coronation and the events that proceeded it, and everyone was adjusting better than expected to this new reign. Currently the residents of Arvore where in the midst of planning for an upcoming festival. A festival that was going to be attended by the foreign ambassadors that had just traveled here from their respective realms, as well as everyone in Arvore.

You had spend the day greeting said ambassadors as well as approving the decorations, food, and activities. Your day so far had be exhausting to say the least. Maeve had seen how exhausted you were and had insisted on handling the rest of the preparations, which was probably for the best. Not only could you feel a dull ache behind your eyes that was hinting at the start of a nasty headache, but you had also been incredibly distracted throughout the day. As important as the preparations and the ambassadors were you couldn’t find yourself being able to focus on them as your thoughts kept circling back to a certain, devilishly handsome, Commander. Rian had left a few weeks ago with his crew and a few members of court on a small expedition to one of the neighbouring realms to discuss a new trade treaty and he was set to be returning later this week. You had been missing him everyday since he left. This was the longest the two of you had been apart since you met and since beginning a relationship. The thought of him returning and you being able to see him and touch him was making you burst with excitement.

The sound of the massive double doors opening pulled you from your musings, as you looked up the sight that greeted you made your heart soar. The sun poured in from outside, shrouding the approaching figures in an almost ethereal glow; you immediately recognised the person in the front of the group. Rian. As elated as you were by the sudden arrival of your lover, you couldn’t help but start to slightly panic. They were not meant to be back until later this week, had something gone wrong? Did something happen with the trade discussions? Did they even take place? As you continued to run through possibilities in your head, Rian walked casually through the doors with members of the court not far behind. His gaze was on yours in an instant. Hungry, mischievous, and full of affection. As much as you had missed him and wished that you could run across the room and into his arms to smother his adorable face in kisses, you had to remind yourself that was wildly inappropriate for someone of your position.

So instead, you rise gracefully from your seat upon the throne, ready to welcome them home while trying your best to school your expression as to not let your confusion and worry show. Rian keeps his eyes trained on yours as he and the court approach. As they reach the steps of the throne, Rian takes your hand in his as he bows before you.

“Your highness” he says with a smirk as he brings your hand to his lips. “It’s wonderful to see you again, you’re looking well.” He continues, as his eyes travel the length of your body not even trying to hide the desire swirling within them.

Your cheeks flush slightly and your lips quirk into a small smirk of your own as he lets your hand go.

“Commander Rian, welcome back. Your here early, I hope your trip went smoothly?” You ask, keeping your voice steady.

Rian straightens. “Of course, Your highness. The tides where on our side. We made it there and back quicker than expected, and from what i hear the trade discussions went well.”

“That’s wonderful news.” You reply, relieved, as your direct you attention to the others. The members of the court bow to you one by one with greetings of their own.

“Welcome back, it is good to see you all. I’m glad to hear the trip went smoothly. There are matters to discuss but you must be tired from your trip, the staff will show you too your rooms. We can discuss the details of the meeting later.” You say, as you address the room, channeling as much confidence into those words as you can muster.

“Of course. Thank you, Your Highness we look forward to it.” An older man replies, as he and the rest of the court file out of the room leaving you and Rian alone.

Rian turns to you, lips parted as he begins to speak. “So, love—“

His words die in this throat as you throw your arms around his shoulders, claiming his lips in a bruising kiss full of love, affection, and unspoken relief. His arms are around your waist in seconds. The kiss is hurried and messy at first, as you try to convey all your unsaid feelings. You had missed him so much it hurt. To finally have him here in your arms again was overwhelming. The feeling of his strong arms flexing around you as he brought you closer to him, and the smell of the spices and salt water that clung to him, helped to soothe your nerves.

The warmth that radiated off him as he held you, and the way his lips felt as they brushed against yours, everything about him in this moment was familiar. The realisation that he was finally back in your arms flooded your mind with relief as you slowly broke the kiss.

Your hurried breaths mingled together as you parted to catch your breath. The smile that graced your lips was mirrored on Rians as you both eased back, taking each other in.

“Mmm, maybe I should leave more often if that’s the greeting I’m going to get.” He says with a shit-eating grin, though the mischief of his words is slightly lost by the gorgeous red painting his cheeks and the open adoration in his eyes.

You lightly smack his chest as you advert your gaze, a small pout on your lips.

He chuckles. “Sorry, I’m just teasing. You know I couldn’t stay away from you, couldn’t do that to you.” He says as he noses at your jaw. “I’d miss you too much...” he trails off as he presses a kiss to your jaw.

“I’d miss the way you call my name—” he presses another kiss just above that, kissing a path up the side of your neck.

“Rian…”You sigh in pleasure, angling you head to grant him better access.

“I’d miss the way you feel in my arms—” He nips lightly at the soft flesh under your ear. “—and I’d miss the way that you taste…” he trails off again, as he meets your lips in another kiss.

You groan as he moves his lips in time with yours, bringing you closer to him with arms still wrapped firmly around your waist as you tangle your fingers through his brown locks. Just as you feel him bite at your bottom lip requesting permission to deepen the kiss, you break away with a slight gasp, remembering that you’re not completely alone.

“What’s wrong, love?” He asks, worry flashing across his face.

“Nothing is wrong, it’s just… we’ve got company.” You reply, gesturing to the guards standing at the entrances.

He arches an eyebrow, amusement painting his features. “Oh, is that all?”

“Wha— what do you mean ‘is that all’? “ you ask, as your voice wavers slightly.

“If I am remembering correctly, didn’t you say ‘It’s my kingdom. Let them watch’ when we were on the beach? I thought you didn’t mind an audience.” He replies, his lips pulled into that damn smirk.

“That was different! There was nobody around and we weren’t standing in the middle of the throne room.” You reply, as heat spreads across your face.

He chuckles again. “Well if that’s the case, perhaps we can pick this up some other time when there is less people around. Maybe on the beach again, you seemed to like it there and i’m sure there wouldn’t be too many people around.” He replies.

You grin as you try to suppress a laugh. “You’re an idiot.”

“Now, now Your Highness. Is that any way to speak to your loyal subject?” He fires back.

“Loyal subject? Says the man that came here to kidnap me!” You exclaim, feigning offence.

“I’ve already told you my allegiance is yours, Your Highness. I serve you.—“ He pulls you closer, as he brings his lips to your ear. “If you don’t believe me, I’d be more than happy to show you.” He whispers seductively as his hand travels down to rest at the small of your back, tipping you slightly off balance so you have no choice but to cling to him tighter.

Your reply comes in the form of a kiss, hot and needy as your lips claim his. He groans as he brings a hand to the back your neck, deepening the kiss. You marvel at the way his lips feel as they caress yours while your hand finds its way back into his hair. He nips at your bottom lip and they part to allow his tongue to slip between them. The feeling of his tongue brushing against yours is enough to drive you crazy. As you lose yourself in the joyously erotic feeling of his lips on yours, you start to feel a familiar heat rise in your stomach. As the kiss continues, your need for him becomes more obvious as you press your hips to his in an attempt to quell the rising ache between your legs.

You drag your lips away from his leaving you both gasping for breath.

“Guards, leave us.” You say, your tone leaving no room for objections.

The guards each offer a small bow as they hurriedly leave their positions, doors closing behind them, leaving you two completely alone this time.

I just wanted to get this out because it’s been sitting in my draft folder and I wanted to post it and see the general reaction. This is my first proper fic, so, please bear with me!
