It was great, so there’s like 2 types of study abroad kids here, Erasmus and csuip, and we’ve kinda ended up split into groups based on which one we are. And some of the people I tend to hang out with ended up going to a club with all the Erasmus kids, who ended up being pretty mean and kinda elitist almost? (Elitist doesn’t seem like the right word, but it’s the only one I can think of). And then all the Erasmus kids got covid. But the night before we found that out we had a drinking night in one of my friends flat, where some of the Erasmus kids (the nice ones) showed up. So we were all like ‘ha! Karma for being a bitch! You got covid!’ And the karma nerfed us, and I’m one of three people who somehow didn’t get covid when everyone else is sick with it.

on one of our very last days of class, M and S and I set out to find lampredotto, a specifically Florentine delicacy similar to tripe, made from the fourth stomach of a cow. Florence doesn’t do hyped-up street food like we do, and fine dining costs probably a fraction of the price it does at home.
we swung out the imposing iron doors of via giacomo leopardi 12 and headed towards coop (the best italian grocery store you will find, in my opinion better than both conads, carrefour, or esselunga) where S had seen the il trippaio cart stationed but had never stopped. though there was usually an il trippaio about 100m outside of my apartment in san’tambrogio, I had only gone once very early on in the year, tried to peacefully eat my panino on the steps of the church along with other Florentines, was subsequently hit on by an approximately 40 year old man named Paolo, who then followed me to the art/architecture supply store on via pietrapiana, and this experience promptly ended my trips to that il trippaio before I even had a chance to sample the two ways the lampredotto was prepared.
luckily, no such creepy middle-aged men encounters lay in wait for us at this other cart, and there was even a sort of bar seating with just enough stools for the three of us. we each ordered the same thing, a panino con lampredotto with salsa verde, a slightly tangy, garlicky sauce made with parsley, and we each ordered a soda (never have I drank so much coca cola as I have in italy - but it goes so well with everything there). The panini were perfect, stewed and slightly spicy and warm lampredotto with a layer of salsa verde being soaked up by a crusty bread that was something between a brioche and a rosetta.
i thought it might be our last meal together, so i paid for everything.

Q: How has study abroad and travel helped you today? Kyle Lee California State University International Program Alumni 2014-2015 My experience from studying abroad and travelling has changed my life completely. Before I left for Seoul, South Korea I was not sure what I wanted to do as a career in Political Science. At Yonsei University in Seoul I started to participate in many activities and conventions that related to Political Science. I took a class in International Law where I gained new perspectives from the students in my class who came from all over the world. In this class I had to represent my country and really prove to the class that stereotypes about the United States were wrong. I also got to go to meetings regarding North and South Korean reunification and the ramifications of the Korean comfort woman during the Japanese Colonial period. These events during my time abroad helped shape my career path in which I showed great interest in international relations and foreign policy. When I came back to Dominguez Hills I had new found drive and determination to pursue my aspirations in the Political Field.I have joined organizations such as the Japanese American Citizens League and now want to pursue a career in the foreign-service with the United States Department of State. Without studying abroad I would not have found the ambition, drive and passion I have today to pursue a career that I want. I have gained a new found confidence in myself to be able to compete in an interconnected world and have now recognized myself as a global ambassador and leader from my experiences abroad.

Barcelona Part 3/Conclusion
The next day I was super hung over so I just stayed in the house and explored it. In the morning we ate breakfast on the terrace and it was really lovely. I spent most of the day drawing and talking to Beto which was nice. He told me about his night and we had a good conversation. I also talked to Jack +them because they had just awoken from their own New Years festivities. I didn't do anything that night even though Collyn, Manu, and Sam went out to see the sights. It was still a good first day of the new year. The next day we got up SUUUPER early --like 7-- to go to Park Güell for free. It was awesome and the park had wifi so I was, for the first time in ages, able to send snapchats outside. I had a Cheetah Girls 2 moment and lost my group so I ended up walking through the park a little and then going home alone. I bought tortillas and cheese and made my first quesadilla in FOUR MONTHS!! It was delicious. Collyn and Manu came home and we all napped the mid morning away. When we woke up we went to the Sagrada Familia to meet up with one of Collyns friends from Chile and then had lunch. Lunch was ok it wasn't great. Sam left and the four of us decided to walk to the beach only we didn't know it was for-fucking-ever away so it took us a while but we got there and hung out for a bit. Hanging with Sam and Collyn was really weird for me because they're both out of college living in /the real world/ and I'm a shitty college student whose mommy still pays for most of her stuff. It was pretty interesting to hear about all the jobs they worked and their life plans but also I'm SO HAPPY IM NOT A REAL ADULT YET. We took the subway home, I chatted with Jack, and then I went to bed. The flight home I had the whole row to myself so even though it was only an hour flight, it was the most comfortable flight I'd ever had. I know the people around me were jealous. Unfortunately the flight was late and I got lost in the airport and I ended up frantically running through Malaga trying to catch the 4:00 bus back to Jaen, which I missed by 15 minutes. No pasa nada. The next bus comes in 45 minutes and I was able to recount my journey so ya know it's been a productive day. I'm still really homesick and I'm so jealous of all my friends back home settling into the valley art/music scene, but this whole experience has really helped me as a person and an artist and I'm really excited to work hard these next couple of months. When I get home I'm going to be a better person who can speak Spanish. Ok I'll be a decent person who can fumble their way through a conversation in Spanish but hey, it's a start. Here's to 2016, here's to CSUIP: Jaen.
