Hey! I went to CSUMB! Go Otters lol I had no school spirit. Think the boys would love the aquarium. I think Marko would love the penguins. I love my Mardi Gras penguins
Ideas for what the vamps do besides being on the boardwalk
While the boys are most certainly on the boardwalk a lot, I feel like they’ve got to get bored of it once in a while. I know I get bored writing it. I’ve compiled this list for some fun little stories or fillers for various fics, so I thought I’d share it! We didn’t really get a chance to see Santa Carla too much besides for the boardwalk in the movie, so I thought I’d keep things generalized or at least some things in the local Monterey Bay area. The boys feel fairly young so of course there’s always the option for parties and such, but they may not want to party every day! Feel free to add other ideas too so we can have an ongoing list of ideas if anyone needs them!
Swimming. They’re right on the beach, and I’m sure every once in a while they want to go for a swim, or at least sit by the water. There’s also nothing stopping them from checking out a local swimming hole where there could be other people, or breaking into someone’s pool.
Laundry days. Come on, we all have to do laundry. Either the boys drag their clothes to Max’s, or they bring it to a local laundromat. It may be a boring chore, but much needed when they’re vampires!
Specialized hobby stores. Maybe Paul just wants to go to a music store for a while. Or Marko wants to check out a local art store. Antique stores, skateboard shops, smoke shops, etc. These are stores that could be giant chains that they steal from, or local businesses that they support. They can also go to these stores alone on their own time without needing to be a whole posse.
A nightly drive to another town. Monterey is only thirty miles south and still right on the bay. There are colleges full of young people there they can meet or eat, college parties, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, etc. In a modern day scenario, they could easily meet up with tinder dates there, or sneak onto college campuses to cause chaos.
Hanging out with other monster creatures. According to the Frog Brothers, Santa Carla’s a haven for the undead. So why not spend some time with them? Meet up with some werewolves for a tag-teamed hunt where the vamps drink the blood and the wolves eat the flesh. Come up with your own nightstalking creatures and get into an exclusive club for only demons.
Cafes. Especially in a modern day setting. If the boys have powered devices like phones or tablets, they’d need to charge them… and that cave doesn’t have electric. They can go and sit for some time charging up their phone while doing art, or chatting with some locals
Meet-ups with individual human friends. I mean come on, they each probably have some more friends out there besides each other that they occasionally hang out with but don’t kill. Maybe David met someone ten years ago who’s now a parent and visits Santa Carla occasionally. They meet up to catch up just for fun because they seemed to hit it off years ago. Hell, maybe even one of the boys baby-sits while David takes his friend out for some nighttime adventure to help them feel young again. Platonic- or not, that’s up to you.
Vampire-y things. Marking territory. Maybe they’re too tired to hunt and decide to just swing by a place to pick up animal blood. Or maybe they’ve just fed and need to rest. I picture them a bit like cats that would just lounge around in the moonlight. They could go back to the cave and nap, or maybe hang out in a tree and watch the cars go by.
When Marko feels the need to bring an animal home, they can go to a local shelter and hang out with the animals. Socialize cats, or walk dogs. Maybe find a petting zoo so they can see some horses and cows.
Pick up odd jobs. With as much as David smokes, he’s gotta have some cash once in a while to buy more cigs. Maybe he kills a pizza delivery guy and finishes the route that night to collect all the tips to buy another pack. Or have him just steal cash
Just some random ideas! I may add some more as I think of them lol
