Going into the jungle by himself wasn’t Magni’s smartest idea, but he wanted to explore the island, and he didn’t want to bother anyone on the crew, so he went into the jungle alone. After what felt like an eternity of walking and swatting away flies, he was starting to conclude that he was lost. That is until he heard someone approach him. “ Yes! “ He exclaimed, laughing gleefully when he saw one of his crewmates. “ I’m pretty sure I’ve been walking in circles forever. I was already planning my new life in the jungle, where I would have to live on my own and eat nothing but crab and turtles. “

Lance spun around the kitchen excitedly, whistling to himself, flour and sugar sprinkling about in his wake. It had been a while since he baked something sweet just for the hell of it and he was eager to present it to the crew. He’d been on the Serpent for a few weeks now and still didn’t feel like he’d really gotten to know anyone yet, he hoped this trifle would serve as a good offering to help break the ice.
He carefully layered custard, jam, and whipped cream atop a delightfully airy, sherry-soaked sponge, laying down the finishing touches of raisins and slivered almonds. Taking a step back, Lance eyed his creation with pride. This would do nicely. He carved it into enough slices to go around, dusted off his apron, piled up a stack of dishes in one hand and hoisted the large trifle into his other arm to bring above deck.
“Anyone for a bit of English Trifle?”

Arroyo sat in the sterile healer’s quarters, staring up at the ceiling. Disliking names. As puzzled over the thought, drawing blanks on what his would be, he heard someone walk in. Without looking over at them he said, “You, human, come help me choose a disliking name.”

“Fuck!” Tobias exclaimed before pulling his thumb to his mouth, trying to numb the pain he’d just caused himself. Holding a hammer in his other had he’d been trying to help repair the ship. Years ago, Tobias had helped build churches and houses but he never considered himself much of a carpenter. Except there wasn’t much else for him to do. Swabbing the deck of a ship that wouldn’t set sail anytime soon seemed rather pointless-- and after being useless during the storm he needed to prove he was an asset to the crew. Hell, he needed to prove that to himself right now. Pulling his thumb from his mouth he confirmed his suspicion that he’d busted the nail of his thumb and was bleeding along the cuticle. “Brilliant,” he muttered to himself.

“He’s not going to hurt anyone,” Lyra insisted, walking out towards the water. She wasn’t sure if the crew had managed to wrangle a pig, or if they’d scared all the game right off the island, so she was heading to the beach to go fishing for their suppers. “He’s in no shape to, even if he wanted to. It’s not like he came looking for us, the storm just happened to blow us in the same direction.”

The rain had been falling for hours now and at some point Adeline must have drifted off to sleep. It was hard to say if that was intentional or not. Even after so many years at sea, she wasn’t the biggest fan of storms. Something about them made her anxious. Her mind certainly wasn’t at ease in the realm of sleep either. The last few weeks had yielded a considerable effort to avoid rest for the reason that it brought an onslaught of nightmarish visions. This time was no exception as she walked up to a burning house. The heat was almost comforting even though her clothes seemed as though they might burn off. But it was as though some sort of immunity or invisible wall protected her from the blaze. The building itself seemed to be of a wealthy nature, which could be told even admidst it being swallowed by the flames. There was a haunting stench in the air that Adeline didn’t even have to question the source of, having heard the screams slowly dissipating to less and less voices as time went on. It didn’t stop her from moving about through the manor, even up the stairs and onward, almost assessing the damage she was all too sure she had caused in this memory. Her pace shifted between walking and running, an almost elation running through the memory at this chaos.
Physically speaking Adeline had made her way unknowingly up to above decks, the wind and rain almost to the level where one would need a life line tie about their waist to even be up there at all. Still she wandered about, barefoot and soaked to the bone, still completely lost in her head.

TIME: Mid-day before the heavy rain starts
Light sprinkles of rain were all that fell from the sky, but the wind was merciless, and the rocking waves made her feel like the ship was going to throw her off at any moment. As the ship hit a particularly choppy wave, Maeve lost her footing and slammed into the railing on the upper deck. “Damnit!” she bellowed - or at least, tried to, as the hit knocked all the wind out of her. “This is ridiculous! Shouldn’t a ship be more stable!?”

TIME: Night before the heavy rain fall starts
"I don’t like this,” Jax said simply, tearing his eyes away from the dark sky. It was nearly time for him to do his usual nightly check of the ship before he treated to his quarters, but with such an ominous sky staring down at him, he knew he wouldn’t sleep any time soon. “I need help bringing up the storm-sails. Have you ever seen the build up to a storm last this long? We need to prepare.”

There wasn’t much that Thaddeus felt they could do to to help prepare the ship for the impending storm, at least in some senses. Instead they were nestled in their office, finally quiet from lack of occupancy. It was the first time they had set about to properly reorganize their supplies over the last few weeks. At present they were rerolling bandages so that they were no longer jumbled in the cupboard, but they knocked over a pitcher of water beside them. “Fucking hell,” they grumbled, looking around for any sort of rags they might be able to use to their aid before tossing off their shirt to soak up as much of the water as they could.

When her eyes shot open-- Athena feared she was going to be sick again. She turned her head to the bucket Thadd had left her-- already holding something inky black and ill. She coughed and gagged but nothing came up. Athena wasn’t sure what was worse-- actually vomiting or just the threat of vomiting. With her coughing fit over she took labored breaths. Sleep still clouded her mind, along with whatever else was happening to her body-- at least she could hardly feel the cuts from the battle with Charles. Looking to the door of the infirmary a familiar face stood in the doorway... at least Athena thought it was a familiar face. Her vision still wasn’t great. She rolled back into bed, looking up at the ceiling. “Pardon me... for my display...” It seemed like a good, all around apology for everything that had happened. Her face curled, her throat suddenly feeling dry and burning. “Could you... bring me some water, please--” another dry cough.

Death had lost the ability to shock Billie, over the years. When their traitor had been outed by damning evidence she’d been chomping at the bit to put a bullet in his head and call the whole thing done herself, but Jax had insisted on more decorum than that. Probably for the best.
Still much like the death of Charles it left her unsatisfied and with an anger she couldn’t resolve because the people who deserved it were already gone. So she found herself in a quiet, seldom used corridoor of the ship, punching a hole into an interior wall just for somewhere to put all that anger. It hardly hurt, her hands were used to worse. So she did it again and sucked in a deep breath when a splinter caught in her knuckle. Not quite enough to stop her though, unlike the clearing of a throat down the hallway just as she’d curled her fist to throw a third punch.
“I’ll fix it when I’m done.” Billie sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose, “Just...” She didn’t want to be seen like this. Emotional. “Just piss off, I’m fine.”

Magni raised himself in the cot to attempt to get up. He could quite easily disregard the pain of the wound. Yet the lightheadedness, that made him feel close to passing out was impossible to ignore. " Hey you, yes you! " Magni called out once he noticed a silhouette of a person walking past the doctor's quarters. It's been an hour since he woke up after Thaddeus stitched him up and drugged him to keep him from going back to work, and he was close to screaming out of boredom. " I will pay you your weight in gold and silver if you will get me out of here. "

The skies had been getting dangerously dark over the past couple days. Maybe he was overly anxious, but Lance was beginning to secure the cabinets and heavier items in the kitchen so they wouldn’t cause damage to the ship in the event of the inevitably bad storm brewing. He hadn’t been through a storm the likes of this in quite sometime and his nerves knotted in the pit of his stomach, though he tried not to show it. He heard the sound of footsteps approaching, but didn’t bother to turn and see who it might be. “If you’re looking for something to eat, come back later, I’m busy at the moment...” he said over his shoulder, exasperated, tangled up in a mess of rope and pans, “If you want to help, on the other hand, feel free to stay.”

Despite his many years on the sea, Lucien still always felt a bit...awkward apart from the ship. While he enjoyed a good ale as much as the next, a corner of his mind always felt a bit distant. No, only on the sea did he truly feel at ease—even though, for outsiders, he probably did not appear very at ease while he was swearing up a storm anytime the sea became unruly. Yet, he could not deny the positives of being on shore. On land was the only time Lucien could drink freely—he never would allow himself to numb any of his senses while behind the helm—and he could actually get a full night of rest if he so pleased.
Tonight would not be one such night.
It was easily past three in the morning, and while he would not consider himself drunk, he was at least a little tipsy. Earlier in the evening, what had started as an animated conversation with a fellow Frenchman eventually turned even more animated, ending with several punches being exchanged...and then they were laughing over the matter mere moments after the fact. The man had left several minutes earlier, leaving Lucien sporting a busted lip and leaning against a lamppost outside the tavern. Noticing a familiar face, he held his glass of ale up. “I tripped,” he said lightly, with a lazy wave of his hand towards his face.

The sun was much too low in the sky for Tobias’ liking. Most days he slept into the early afternoon but obviously he couldn’t start his first day like that. The image of Jax, shaking him awake from his bunk with a bottle under his arm was burned into his head despite the fact he was up with a mop in his hand. Swabbing the deck, Tobias took a second to admire the morning. Seagulls cried overhead and people were starting to fill the port. He used to love mornings. Whatever happened to that? Tobias felt someone looking at him, a skill he developed back in Europe where lingering looks often meant something more nefarious. He turned around, smiling so wide his eyes were almost closed. “Hello there,” he sang.

“Sorry, I’m almost done here,” Lyra glanced up from the bubbling pot as someone else entered the galley, giving it a quick sniff, she made a face. “It doesn’t smell great, but it’s supposed to be good for restoring strength,” she explained. They were supposed to be doing all they could to help Thadd with their patients, so she’d decided to whip something up for the injured. They may not enjoy mer medicine, but she was sure it would be more effective than what the doctor would give them.
