Jan squared his shoulders - broad and strong from years of training secretly during the times he escaped from his lessons - his hand inches above the stone as he pondered his uncle's question. He never thought of the possibility, but he supposed that it was a fair question.

Regardless, not even that possibility could quell the dark flame that burned within him.

"It doesn't matter. I'm not staying. I know what's best for me."

With that, Jan touched the glowing crystal with his right hand and closed his eyes momentarily as he felt the rush of soul power wash over him for the first time in his life.

And then, a howl. Jan opened his eyes and saw shadows. Deep, deathly cold shadows that seemed to surround just him and Damir. The older man was looking to Jan's right, with an almost knowing smile on his face, prompting Jan to turn his head.

A large, otherworldly wolf with fur black as shadow, its eyes blood-red, parts of the flesh on its legs, back and belly torn away to reveal skeletal bone. Like Jan, it was surrounded by deep, bone-chilling shadows as well. Dark and cold as death.

"So much for so-called prophecy and superstition," Jan thought to himself as he smiled once more. A genuine smile as he held back tears of joy.

"Shall we go?" Damir pointed a finger towards the graveyard's back gates, abandoned and overgrown. Jan nodded, pulling up his dark hood as they stole away into the night.

He was no lamb, nor did the stars hold any sway over him.

(TL;DR: All his life, Jan found himself a prisoner of prophecy and superstition, forced into a life he hates, due to being a third child of a third child in a northern kingdom where superstition and belief in the will of the stars runs rife, and unrealistic expectations placed upon him simply due to "the whispers of the stars". Yet, all the lone wolf Jan wants is freedom, and to forge his own path. He does not believe in prophecies, nor is he even interested in the healing arts or divination, or being a kept man to the Prince of Gold and Iron. However, the only person who understands him is his uncle Damir, who ends up helping him run away from home, and gave him the opportunity to awaken his soul creature as well. Turns out that Jan had every right to resist and be resentful, as his soul creature is the Nether Wolf with a dark and deathly power, and not the prized but weak Celestial Lamb that heals...everyone was wrong about him and underestimated him, as expected of slaves to superstition and prophecy. Jan is now a fugitive, his life finally his own and coming into the strength and independence that he always had. However...what of the Prince of Gold and Iron? Who exactly is he...? That's a story for a different time. 👀)

***Yes...if you're wondering, "Uncle Damir" is indeed Let 3's Mrle. He does bear quite a resemblance to Jan, and has such a cool vibe as well. I find it quite cute to make him related to Jan...imagine little Jan looking up to such a cool uncle when nobody else understands him. Adorable.

FASHION CREDITS: JAZZ & PIANO SHOW 4.0 PART II

Due to the first part being a tad too long, here is the second part of the fourth leg of Lady Gaga's Jazz & Piano residency stage looks styled by Tom Eerebout and Sandra Amador!

Martian lava rocks shed light on critical period of red planet's history

No matter how many missions to Mars she takes part in, the sheer joy of unearthing discoveries about the red planet never gets old for Mariek Schmidt.

In a new paper, "Diverse and highly differentiated lava suite in Jezero crater, Mars: Constraints on intracrustal magmatism revealed by Mars 2020 PIXL," published in Science Advances, Schmidt and her international research team shared compelling findings about a critical period of the planet's evolutionary history.

The Professor and Chair of Brock University's Department of Earth Sciences was a Participating Scientist in NASA's Mars Perseverance rover mission and has been analyzing ancient rocks found within Mars' Jezero Crater. One of the primary mission objectives is to search for signs of ancient microbial life on Mars, and igneous rocks and regolith examined in the area have also given insight into a time in the planet's history that has yet to be extensively studied.

"We're doing things on Mars that have never been done before," Schmidt says.

Schmidt is also a Co-Investigator on the Planetary Instrument for X-Ray Lithochemistry (PIXL) team. The PIXL, which is an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, was used to determine the fine-scale elemental composition of Martian surface materials, allowing the scientists to remotely dive deep into the rocks to investigate how they formed and what they're made of.

"The scope of the science has been incredible; it's the most comprehensive study to date of these samples, that have been cached for Mars Sample Return," Schmidt says. "We now know the mineral and rock chemistry and understand the textures, but the next step was to talk about how we think the rocks formed, in terms of magmas rising through and crystallizing in the Martian crust, then evolving and changing composition."

The paper, released on Friday, Jan. 24, also sets up a series of hypotheses that can guide follow-up research when the samples are brought to Earth years from now. NASA is currently formulating plans to do so in conjunction with the European Space Agency (ESA).

Tanya Kizovski, co-author on the paper and Associate Curator of Minerology at the Royal Ontario Museum, says all of the Martian samples studied on Earth thus far have been meteorites.

Most of the Martian meteorites are less than 500 million years old—relatively young compared to Mars' 4.5-billion-year history—while the samples from Jezero Crater are believed to be at least 3.5 billion years old.

"Mars is very well-preserved in terms of the early history of our solar system, so being able to look at rocks that are this old—especially when they are brought to Earth—will help us learn about the history of our inner solar system and when life evolved," says Kizovski, a postdoctoral fellow at Brock during the project.

"We can also date when igneous rocks crystallized. We can't do that while the rock is still on Mars, but those samples will be an important anchor we can use to learn about the timing of processes in the region once analyzed here on Earth."

The samples also come from a unique time in Mars history, Schmidt says, when the internal dynamics of the planet were undergoing major changes.

"Volcanism on Mars is really dominated by what we call hot spots—similar to Earth's Hawaii or Iceland—where there's a focused magma source that's rooted deep, punches up through everything and then erupts at the surface," she says.

"But early on in Mars history, there's modeling to support the idea that the Martian crust was built up by widespread volcanism—not necessarily focused on those hot spots—and that transition is thought to have happened around the time that these rocks formed."

Schmidt and the team still have a while to wait—potentially a decade or more—before the samples are planned to land on Earth.

"Bringing these samples from Mars will be incredibly challenging and involve an incredible feat of engineering, especially when you consider that you are retrieving something from orbit that is essentially the size of a basketball," Schmidt says.

In the meantime, the Perseverance rover is still traversing Mars and collecting samples in a new location while Schmidt and her colleagues are patiently awaiting the chance to one day analyze the Martian rocks, Earth-side.

I'm here once again talking about my Hades x Persephone wip. I explained here how basically my au works, so I thought it was time to share something more about the characters and their deities.

This time is Jan's turn!

Jan is connected to Hades!

But is he the real Hades? Who knows!👀 You'll discover it when I'll start posting my work, once it's finished lmao

The connection was basically born on its own, I didn't have to think about it.

Hades is the god of the dead (not death! It's a common misconception) and of the riches of the soil (and this fact isn't often taken into consideration). I tried to include both elements in the aesthetic, as you can see a skull and a crystal.

In ancient Greece Hades was seen as a benevolent deity but also considered as one of the most feared. This was my first impression when I started following JO: I saw Jan as the lone member of the band, always lost in his world, but as the more I observed him, the more I could see that he was sweet and friendly in his awkwardness.

Dreamt s2 will drop part 1 on Jan 14th, and there was some new clip that was a fusion of Crystalized and Dragons Rising.

Basically, the ninja were in the old X Cave in their golden suits, when they got a report of trouble somewhere and then it cut to a dock being flooded (kinda like Wojira but it was sunny the whole time) and the whole ninja team was there, but there were people from across the realms, like Imperium citizens, just there for some reason.

1. Bappy - BadBoyHalo x Skeppy (sept)

Bappy is the first fusion after the discovery of the crystals between Skeppy and BBH. When Sapnap visits, BBH shows him the crystals and tells him about the experience. Interested, Sapnap borrows the crystal from Bad.

2. Buret - Eret x Wilbur Soot (sept 22)

On the day of the L’manburg Election, Wilbur is saved from his untimely death by Eret and fused together in the process, creating “Buret”. With their combined strength, Buret easily evades their pursuers. When they unfuse, Eret and Wilbur exchange some words, and (while their relationship is not completely fixed) they part on amicable terms.

3. Feret - Eret x Fundy ()

The days following the election had everyone recuperating. Fundy approached Eret, knowing he had a crystal, and told him he wanted to know more about it. They accidentally form the fusion “Feret”, which was odd experience to say the least. Eret decided to gift the crystal to Niki as he no longer wanted it.

4. Santa - Sapnap x Antfrost (oct 5)

In the battle of the burning eiffel tower, Niki was held hostage by BBH, Skeppy, Sapnap, Punz, and Antfrost. Tommy attempted to rescue her, and recruited Dream and Technoblade to help him. Eventually she escaped, but stayed near the battle. The fight took a turn for the worse when Sapnap and AntFrost fused into “Santa” and began to overpower them.

5. Tekni - Niki Nihachu x Technoblade (oct 5)

The battle triggered Techno’s blood frenzy, cutting down everything in his path. Niki reflexively shielded herself with her arms, a crystal in hand. Surprisingly, they fused into “Tekni”, and they began to change the tide of the battle. The rescue party left their pursuers licking their wounds, and successfully escaped. Techno left the encounter with a newfound respect for Nihachu, and Niki no longer feared the infamous war god that was Technoblade.

(Oct. 20 - After the Dreamon exorcism, Fundy took the opportunity to ask Dream about the fusion crystals. However, Dream was avoidant in answering any of his questions and left quickly.)

6. Bam - BBH x Sam (nov 5)

BadBoyHalo and Awesamdude become the fusion “Bam” in order to win the battle in the Second Pet War.

7. Dratt - Jschlatt x Dream (nov 16)

Schlatt hires Dream to protect him during the rebellion in exchange for the revival book. Dreams accepts, but Schlatt says that his basic protection isn’t enough. He waves a crystal at Dream’s face, which he got from Ponk during the trade agreement with Lemon City.

Dream refuses at first, but reluctantly accepts at Schlatt’s insistence. On the day of the Rebellion, the pogtopia resistance is met by “Dratt”. The battle is long and fierce with no signs of ending, when suddenly Dratt defuses on their own. Dream stood to the side while Schlatt monologues and dies from a heart attack.

8. Piffi - Niki x Captain Puffy (nov 28)

Niki and Captain Puffy end up fusing on their date into “Piffi”. They spend the rest of their date as Piffi.

9. Snarl - Sapnap x Karl Jacobs (dec 6)

In the Mexican L’manburg vs. Dream SMP conflict, Karl had agreed to sacrifice his life for the cause according to Quackity’s plan. Sapnap secretly disagreed with this, and saved Karl right before his death. They formed the fusion “Snarl”.

10. Team - Dream x Techno (dec 16)

Technoblade was dragged back to L’Manburg for his execution. Dream rescued him, and proposed the easiest way to escape by holding up a crystal. Techno agreed, and the terrifying fusion “Team” was born. Team easily overpowered everyone and made their quick getaway. Dream let Techno keep the crystal.

11. Puffet - Puffy x Eret (jan 6)

Team made a terrifying return on Doomsday. The defenders of L’Manburg and their allies struggled. Niki refused to help, but she lent her crystal to Eret and Puffy because she still trusts them. They become “Puffet” who was a great help in taking down the withers. Quackity approaches Sapnap and suggests they fuse. Sapnap pulls out his crystal, but an tnt drops on them and sends them flying. The crystal was lost.

12. Totum - Tommyinnit x Tubbo (jan 20)

The Final Waltz. Punz gave his crystal, that he got from a trade with Skeppy, to Tubbo and Tommy. They became “Totum” and overpower Dream. Tubbo keeps the crystal.

13. Purfool - Purpled x Foolish Gamers (april 25)

During the Red Banquet, the eggpire members had set up to sacrifice their guests, starting with Foolish. When Quackity breaks in with Techno and Purpled. Purpled immediately moves in and rescues Foolish. They fuse, revealing the crystal Purpled had found, and become “Purfool”. Quackity suggests to Techno that they should fuse too. Techno refuses, and they save the rest of the guests.

14. Quackie/Charity? - Quackity x Charlie ()

Ever since seeing Buret, Quackity wanted to fuse. He wanted to experience it. The people he asked told him how it felt. ‘The exhilarating combined power. The confidence that came with never being alone, knowing that someone will always catch you’. Quackity had been denied time and time again. By Schlatt looking down on him. By Sapnap losing the crystal. And then Technoblade. But now, Quackity had his own crystal that he got from Sam in their Las Nevadas alliance agreement. And new guy he under his wing, Charlie Slimecicle. What should he call their fusion? Charity? Or Quackie?

X-Men 16 (Jan 1966)

I know this will be a fake-out of some kind but still: hell yeah.

Xavier is alone outside the Sentinels' base with the rest of the gang trapped inside, where they are being transported in a wonderfully silly gravity bubble.

But it turnes out that the Sentinels have a weakness: postmodern architecture.

So, while the X-Men inside are escaping, Xavier procures an enormous helicopter-mounted crystal (it is never explained why this exists or where he got it from) and flies it to the base, like so.

This - along with an assist from Trask, who sacrifices himself heroically, even though he wasn't one of the ones whose death was being teased, don't think I didn't see what you did there, Stan Lee - disables and defeats the Sentinels, but not before several pages of Kirby's finest high tech surrealism.

I've tried and failed several times now to find a good way of describing this stuff, which is clearly what Kirby always wants to be drawing, and what he sees whenever he closes his eyes. It has the powerful, knowing naivety of certain forms of pre-Columbian art, and a control of gemoetry and scale that's almost Baroque. It's about technology and machinery, but it never feels futuristic: it feels ancient, primordial. There's nothing else like it and it's by far the most artistically distinctive thread running through these early issues. I could look at it all day.

I mention all this because - and this is not a fake-out - the next issue is Kirby's very last X-Men issue. Oh man.

I have been having vivid dreams lately, and it's not always pleasant. Two nights ago, it was about getting carjacked in X's old Cartier edition Lincoln. A woman got into the driver's seat while I was the passenger and distracted by my phone.

"I drive, yes?" she asked in a heavy accent. And embarrassingly enough, it took me all day to realize it was Greek. Again.

"What? No!" I said, startled. I rotated so that my back was against the door.

"Yes, I drive now."

"No! No, you can't!" I had no idea where she would take me, so I flung open the door and scrambled out, and then in front of the car to try to keep her from leaving. When I did, a man got in the passenger seat and shut the door, and the two of them peeled off in the stolen car.

What... the fuck?

I was lethargic and listless all day Saturday, and W started showing signs of it too. He and his friend went out to play, but they came back frequently to rest. My son's energy was flagging, and continued to decrease through the weekend.

That night, last night, I had another dream; a skeletal figure killing me repeatedly. Not stabbing. Not shooting. Killing. I'd die, reincarnate, and die again.

And I felt... nothing. I wished I could have some kind of rest. It didn't hurt at all, but it felt endless, as if even standing up was too much of an effort anymore. There was no point. I was just going to die again.

I spent all day today listening to "Sayonara Subarashiki Sekai Yo," over and over and over, realizing with perfect clarity what it meant. I felt like saying goodbye to everything because it was fading and turning grey inside me. And it wasn't fair to let myself completely succumb to the darkness. So I had to love this place enough to say goodbye to it.

I had a saving grace, though. My mom called me and invited us to spend the day with her, doing puzzles and eating take-out. I organized all her receipts from the past year. W watched "Delicious in Dungeon" and we had hot tea and boba mochi to stave off his oncoming cold. And at least during that time, I felt more clear. I had reasons to stay.

But when I took W back to his dad, that grey fog that muted all my emotions floated over me again. I went home, took in my new pajamas and boba mochi and packets of herbal tea, and sat down to a diamond painting that I've been neglecting for over a year. It's nearly half finished now; a mosaic of Santorini.

Phobetor showed up as if on cue. "Troubled again, I see."

"Yeah." I put a few more crystals in their places. "Phobetor... have you ever thought about dying? You know... I know you're a god, but have you ever considered doing it?"

"Of course." The answer was immediate.

"How do you keep going?" I asked. "What stopped you?"

He shot me a surprised look, but seemed to consider me before delivering his answer. "You did." Not just me, the person. Not just me, the goddess. Hope. That infinite concept, braver than any other. Stalwart, he calls it while peeping over my shoulder.

"Do you think it keeps Fortitude going, too?" I asked.

He watched me a few moments longer, the awe lingering in his face until his brow creased. "Oh, Hope," he sighed sympathetically.

That gentlest of sounds broke something inside me, and I started crying softly at the kitchen table.

Phobetor got up from his chair and pulled my head against his diaphragm to let me cry. "I'm sure you do." He petted my hair, but didn't shush me. He understands better than most that you have to let tears fall before the ache fades.

I'm pretty sure the reason i carried that around with me all day was because something in me wasn't completing the processing from last night. It was the crying, the letting go, that did it.

Second Half Manifesto

The first of the year has been nothing short of interesting, I barely know where to begin. Through each month I was grateful for everything, being alive, experiences, love and so much more.

First Half

The first six months were full of so many experiences. I went to the first camp in Jan - flopped but relly pushed me to want more for myself in bowls. Met a man who later became my everyday ride to wrok - super grateful for that. Had the Interdistricts which was one of my worst experiences to be fair but enjoyed being in Port Elizabeth as always - my favourite place. And my birthday month - always so whoelsome. Bought myself a cute crystal bracelet and got a cute loan (to start up my credit, going well so far). Got to live how I want to live forever, spending on myself, friends and family without batting an eye. Ended very quickly as I entered depressing April - flat broke due to emergencies. Tried getting into King Price as well but not much luck. May started turning over a bit, not much happned besides focusing on my BGN Singles. June started with a bang - actually winning the singles but unfortuantely fell short at the camp (again), starting to give up on this SA bowls level - struggling to keep up due to work and zero practice. Anyway, moving onto the second half..

Second Half Manifest

It's been a rough few months to be honest but I reallly want change for the next few months as well as my life going forward. I am losing hope and energy in the constant feeling of 'need' - with prayer and manifestating but I don't want to live like that anymore. I refuse!

Would really love to enter into a shift for the next few months and permantly be there. I want change. I need it - I am change!! Thank you God, thank you Universe. x
