This is our final morning waking up at camp and it is a glorious morning. Completely unexpected. The forecast last week suggested the good weather on the coast would burn out by now.
But no.
Kimmer's up at 830. I'm outta bed twenty minutes later. The visiting teens from last night are already on their way home so we're down to just Kimmer's nephew.
Nine o'clock we're at the picnic table  enjoying the pancakes and bacon, hot off the grill courtesy her cousin. With real maple syrup also courtesy her cousin.
When finally he's done with all the cooking and boiling of hot water...
It's time for him to go. So he sets about breaking down his side of the camp, eventually pulling away the canopy above us, the canopy above our breakfast picnic table so that suddenly we're exposed to the full light and heat of the sun.
Still lovely, by the way. This day will be defined by the perfect balancing act of temperature, wind, and warmth that's playing out along this Pacific coast.
Ten o'clock, Kimmer's cousin and nephew are pulling away, heading for home. Her nephew's gonna hang there for the afternoon until we join him. Her cousin's gonna pivot, resupplying and packing for an archery tournament taking place at a ranch over the next few days.
So now it's just the two of us and a day along this sunshine coast to consider.
Our first order of business is walking the three loops that house each of the campsites as well as cars, trucks, bikes, tents, trailers, and all manner of recreation vehicle from teardrop trailer to massive rock band buses. It's a bit of Show 'n Tell that's lovely to indulge, lots of opportunity for inspiration, and a lot of neighborly "Hello's" along the way including one alarming discussion that spring from the question "do you know what a baby rattlesnake looks like?"
Kinmer took that question, if you're wondering.
Quarter to eleven we're back from our walk. Kimmer sets up her laptop at the picnic table while I reset the campervan for our daytime use. It takes me about twenty minutes after which Kimmer moves to our table inside while I scan the ground if our campsite for any stray garbage, mostly small to tiny, that needs to be removed.
When I'm done and back inside, Kimmer's taken to researching a Death Valley camping trip.
Death Valley???
Yeah.
It's a thing Kimmer's cousin does and we've been invited.
Apparentlly.
So now Kimmer's taking a pass at figuring out RV possibilities from different companies and different starting locations. While she's doing that, I take one more look around our campsite for anything that doesn't belong because we're about to leave. Check-out's at noon and it's almost noon.
Are we leaving?
We're leaving our campsite for sure because our pass will have expired at the end of our stay. Our pass, however, is still good for going down to the beach. We can park at the bottom of the hill near the tunnel entrance to the beach. And our pass is good for the rest of the day. So noon ends up being the end of our stay but the beginning of a little afternoon beach exploration. What will turn out to be three miles of beach exploration as it turns out.
Having parked down below, we take a moment for some grapes and mandarin oranges and hanging out inside what's becoming an ever warmer interior of the campervan. Then I change into shorts for the first time this week because the weather's perfect for it and, by one o'clock, we're headed toward our beach adventure! 😁😁😁
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time our three miles of walking first to the southernmost end of the beach then backtracking a little and heading north to the Crystal Cove Beach Cottages, the Crystal Cove Shake Shack 'n back, three hours have come and gone and we're back in our campervan, leaving this beautiful park a little after four.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On our way back to the homestead, we make a quick stop at Sally's by the Sprouts we always go to across the street from the Goodwill we always go to. After that we return to that Salvation Army we hit earlier in the week where Kimmer scored a whole bunch of stuff she was looking for including a Kimmer green carry-on piece of roller luggage. This time she wasn't as lucky but I did score a pair of black Vans for nine bucks. 😁😁😁
Back at the homestead a little after five-thirty, Kimmer checks her watch and celebrates the 17,599 steps she (and therefore we) racked up during the course of all our walking about across the day.
What I haven't mentioned yet is that the homestead is without power. Completely without.
Why?
The local utility is upgrading the neighborhood grid and, until they're done, no one has power.
Supposed to come back on by 7, though, so...
Fingers crossed.
Moving along, we set about moving our stuff inside from the campervan after which I park it on the street up the hill a bit . Then it's time for hot showers (because the hot water is powered by gas not electricity) and coming to grips with the fact that Kimmer's beef stroganoff dinner plans rely on, you know, electricity so we punt and decide on the Mission Viejo Taco Mesa for dinner.
7PM comes and goes, by the way, with no restoration of power so we hit the road and, eventually, partake of tacos and quesadillas until, lo and behold, 8PM comes and goes and Kimmer's nephew learns that power's been restores.
How do I know?
Because in that moment he learns, he suddenly lifts his face to heaven in profound relief because Instagram Reels work so much better when there's, you know, power. 😉
So of course now it's time to head out which we do... stopping along the way at Ralph's for a Breyer's for us, a Breyer's for Kimmer's nephew, and then a bag of Hershey's chocolate chips we can melt to pour over the Breyer's for us. 😁
We partake of our ice creams at the homestead while relaxing on the couch watching episode 2 of Shrinking season 2 after which Kimmer heads upstairs to do research for her doctoral program while her nephew 'n I kill two more episodes.
It's Shrinking, you know. And we can't get enough.
Afterward, the conversation turns to broadcast television, predicting the future based on past and present, personality types, brain types, the elements of a good career, the things we enjoy that are foundational to who we are and how that can at least draw us toward opportunities that match who we are and pull us away from opportunities are profoundly not for us.
What can I say?
I'm really old and love a captive audience. ☺️

A full set of new ref sheets and redos/redesigns for this set of characters. Due to reasons they are officially in my Homebrew world, find the right canyon in the right desert you might find an up cropping town, or a home inlaid in the canyon’s walls.
Azure Constantine after years adventuring and troubles is retired, keeping an eye on his family and is now apart of a kinship of powerful druids scattered across the world. (He’s not mechanically a Druid but in title he is)
Oz, although he wasn’t joining on most of the adventures is happy to finally not having trouble show up on the regular. He runs his restaurant “Oz’s shack” in peace happily cooking for anyone who comes his way.
(The shack is inspired by Ruby’s shake shack in crystal cove CA)
Xen is finally content after saving his family, and has many more he can call his family now running an Orphanage/camp/school in the upcroping town. Giving his siblings and many other people better lives.
Yarrow is the Co-Owner of the Orphanage/camp, she might not be the oldest but she has learned a lot from her years and is happily helping thease people find their own place.
Theirs more to these guys but this is a basic gist/ rundown. Visit my ToyHouse to see more. (App is being stupid and won’t let me paste :|

hey! any places in particular you recommend for a weekend in Newport Beach and Laguna? cafes, fun things to do, best beaches?
Balboa Island and downtown Laguna have tons of shops. One of my favorite coffee shops is on Balboa Island - Succulent Coffee Roasters. Costa Mesa has Sidecar Doughnuts/Plums Cafe for breakfast, and Pie Society for drinks (21+ speakeasy).
Favorite beaches: Little Corona just because of how close it is to me, but Laguna Beach's Tablerock is probably my fav down there. Victoria Beach has that spiral staircase tower on the beach. Crystal Cove is a cool area too with a restaurant on the beach - Beachcomber. Everyone loves the Shake Shack too but be prepared to wait in line. Beach area near Newport Pier is very popular, tons of good food and shops too. Bear Flag has amazing fish tacos/burritos/poke. Fable & Spirit great cocktails.
Dana Point has some cool places too, but it's more sleepy beach town. Coffee Importers has the best everything bagels + avo + lemon pepper. There's also whale watching out of the harbor there, but not sure best times of the year to go.
Favorite short hike: Spur Ridge Trail in Laguna. Great views from Dana Point to Long Beach
If you want any more particulars message me off anon!

[ad_1] Newport Beach is a popular destination for all ages, offering the best of California weather, beaches, dining, water sports, and family fun. This Southern California coastal town is known for its large harbor, ten miles of beaches, excellent whale-watching opportunities, and local craft beers. In addition, the annual international yacht race, the Ensenada International Yacht Race, brings in scores of visitors every spring. The quaint harborside community of Balboa Island is also quite a draw with its boutique shops, restaurants, and water sports rentals. One of the best experiences in the coastal city of Newport Beach is taking one of the many whale-watching excursions, where you can witness the magic of giant blue whales, humpback whales, or grey whales. During your whale-watching trip, you can also see dolphins and other marine life. You’ll also find Newport Beach to be a food, art, shopping, environmental, and cultural hub, with the Orange County Museum of Art, the Environmental Nature Center, Fashion Island, and the Sherman Library and Gardens. Whether you’re visiting this coastal city for business or pleasure, there are endless things to do. Keep reading to find our top picks for this Pacific Southwest destination! TL;DR Most significant landmark – The Wedge Best park – Inspiration Point Park Best free activity – Crystal Cove State Park Best activity for kids – Balboa Fun Zone Best activity for adults – Newport Landing Whale Watching Best food – Crystal Cove Shake Shack Best nightlife – Billy’s At The Beach Best all-around accommodation – Lido House Fun & Best Things to Do in Newport Beach, California 1. Newport Landing Whale Watching Kim Magaraci / ViaTravelers Address: 309 Palm St A, Newport Beach, CA 92661 You can’t visit Newport Beach, California, without booking a whale-watching excursion! These tours are plentiful, from private tours to luxury catamaran cruises. While the most common whales are grey and blue, you may also stumble upon killer whales during your whale-watching tour. There are whale-watching trips offered daily and year-round, so no matter when you visit Newport Beach, you’ll have an opportunity to see whales. If you’re hoping to see grey whales, you’ll want to book a trip from December through April, whereas blue whales (along with killer whales, dolphins, and other mammals) are most commonly seen from May through November. Whether you’re visiting Newport Beach, California, with a group or as a couple, a Newport Landing Whale Watching experience is a must-do! Book the Newport Beach Whale and Dolphin Watching Cruise or a more upscale experience with the Luxury Whale Watching Catamaran Cruise. Whichever you do, you’re sure to have a “killer” time (yes, we did that). Before or after your tour, stop at the Newport Landing Restaurant for a delicious seafood treat! You can also stay at the nearby Balboa Inn, On The Beach At Newport for your Newport Beach whale-watching experience! Or Doryman’s Oceanfront Inn might be the Victorian-style hotel you’re craving for a more upscale stay. See Related: Fun & Best Things to Do in Visalia, California 2. Spend the Day at Crystal Cove State Park Kim Magaraci / ViaTravelers Address: 8471 N Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651 Located just south of Newport Beach near Laguna Beach, Crystal Cove State Park is one of California’s most beautiful state parks. It’s worth the trip to this beautiful park with its three miles of Pacific coastline, historic beach houses, and inland chaparral canyons. Crystal Cove State Park perfectly combines the natural seashore and open space. Although it’s right off the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), the wooded canyons make you feel like you’re worlds away. You’ll find sandy beaches and rolling surf here, making it a perfect daytime attraction. If you’d rather have a pillow and comfy bed (rather than a campground experience), you can lay your head down at the nearby Newport Beach Marriott Bayview.
The lobby bar and onsite restaurant make it a perfect choice to settle down after a day at Crystal Cove State Park. If you’re driving to the park in the morning, you’ll notice a long line of cars on the PCH at a tiny restaurant called the Crystal Cove Shake Shack. The Shack is a great spot to grab breakfast or lunch with a stunning view of the beach and ocean. 3. Admire the Surfers at the Wedge Kim Magaraci / ViaTravelers Address: 2054 E Oceanfront, Newport Beach, CA 92661 Whether you’re ready to hang ten or if you’d rather watch more experienced surfers hang ten, the Wedge is the spot to go. Located on the southeast end of the Balboa Peninsula, the Wedge has powerful surf and big swells perfect for bodysurfing, bodyboarding, and surfing. If you’re a beginner, it’s best to let the experts ride these waves, as they can get up to 30 feet. This Newport Beach, California, spot is not for the faint of heart! There are also beautiful oceanfront homes at the beach worthy of admiration. Many visitors like to sit on the jetty and watch the sunset across the Pacific Ocean while the boats come in and out of the harbor. And if you’d rather watch from afar (like from a helicopter), this Newport Beach tour is the bee’s knees! Not only can you see the Wedge from the helicopter, but you can also see other prominent Newport Beach attractions on the Balboa Peninsula. Whether you choose the helicopter tour or not, the Lido House is a perfect place to stay on the Balboa Peninsula, giving you access to the Wedge and everything else the area provides. See Related: Fun & Best Things to Do in Merced, California 4. Explore the Newport Harbor Kim Magaraci / ViaTravelers Address: 1600 W Balboa Boulevard, Newport Beach, CA 92663 Newport Harbor is one of the highlights of Newport Beach, California, with its activities from sunset cruises to fishing and stand-up paddleboarding. There are just over ten short piers where fishing is allowed without a license. You can find all types of bass fish, halibut, white seabass, small sharks, and giant bat rays. Dining in Newport Harbor is drool-worthy, with some of the best seafood restaurants in California. While Nobu may be an international chain, it’s still one of the best sushi restaurants in the state. And if you’re looking for other restaurants in the harbor, Javiers and The Winery are two very popular upscale restaurants. If you prefer a guided experience, you can see Newport Beach’s top attractions, including waterfront mansions, with this private 2-hour Newport Beach cruise. There are many options for accommodations in the area, so if you’d rather dock your boat and walk to your hotel, check out the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. 5. Go Shopping at Fashion Island and Lido Marina Village If you’re in the mood to shop, you must put Fashion Island on your travel itinerary. This outdoor shopping mall is for high-end shopping, including stores such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdale’s. Opened in 1967, Fashion Island is a relaxed yet sophisticated spot for shopping with views of the Pacific Ocean. If you still have more shopping on your list, head to Lido Marina Village, a stylish waterfront shopping center with boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. Many of the restaurants offer al fresco and dockside dining. After dining in the California sunshine, head to Billy’s At The Beach for the best Mai Tais in town. These Newport Beach, California, shopping areas offer the best of California shopping, with large anchor stores and small boutique shops. 6. Visit the Balboa Pier and Balboa Fun Zone Kim Magaraci / ViaTravelers Address: 1 Balboa Pier, Newport Beach, CA 92661 Most people are familiar with the Balboa Pier because of the Balboa Fun Zone just in front of it. This local attraction brings in roughly seven million visitors annually and offers affordable fun for all ages. This vintage amusement park has been open since 1936, offering Ferris wheel
rides, arcade games, and more! Unlike most beachfront amusement parks, there is no admission fee to enter, so you can wander around the Newport Beach boardwalk, watch the sea lions, go shopping, or grab a bite to eat. The pier is popular for fishing, but most people stroll on the Balboa Pier to see the surfers or head to Ruby’s Diner at the end. The old-timey casual atmosphere with vinyl booths and soda fountains make Ruby’s Diner a California favorite. They offer delicious staples such as hamburgers, fries, and shakes, the perfect way to end your day at Newport Beach. A stroll down the Balboa Pier and to the Balboa Fun Zone is easily one of the best things to do in Newport Beach, CA! See Related: Fun & Best Things to Do in Pleasanton, California 7. Ride the Balboa Island Ferry Kim Magaraci / ViaTravelers Address: 510 Palm St, Newport Beach, CA 92661 If you’re heading to Balboa Island, the Balboa Island Ferry is the easiest way to get there. This ferry service shuttles visitors from the Balboa Peninsula at Newport Beach to Balboa Island. Since it’s less than 1,000 feet between the island and the Balboa Peninsula, the ferry ride is only about five minutes. While each ferry can hold two cars, they also offer service for pedestrians and cyclists. The Balboa Island Ferry is the easiest and most scenic route to Balboa Island. They are open 365 days a year, only stopping service between midnight and 6 am. Before hopping on the ferry, enjoy some grilled Atlantic salmon at Newport Landing Restaurant, serving visitors for over 30 years. This waterfront restaurant has an upscale casual vibe, with gorgeous views of Newport Harbor. 8. Visit Charming Balboa Island Kim Magaraci / ViaTravelers Address: Newport Beach, CA Balboa Island is a harborside community, part of Newport Beach, and is accessible via boat docks, the Balboa Ferry, and the bridge. Once you get to the island, a wonderful boardwalk surrounds the city. The island is known for its eclectic atmosphere, stunning sunsets, and beautiful marinas. The island comprises two land masses: one is almost one mile around and the other almost two miles. However, a sidewalk surrounds both land masses, making them appear like one body. The small island is home to the Balboa Island Museum and Historical Society, which highlights the local history and culture of Balboa Island. The Balboa Island Museum also helps local artists with exhibits and merchandise to support their work. Kim Magaraci / ViaTravelers Fans of Arrested Development may recognize a few sights on the island. The show was set in Newport Beach, and the Bluth Family Banana Stand was inspired by two real-life frozen banana stands right next to each other on Marine Avenue. Sugar ‘n Spice and Dad’s Frozen Bananas both claim to be the origin of these tasty treats. Try one from both places and see which you prefer! If you want to explore the island, head down Marine Avenue for all the best restaurants and shops. However, one of the best ways to experience the eclectic restaurants on the island is with the Best Bites of Balboa Island Food Tour. This three-hour tour will give you a sample of six restaurants on Balboa Island! See Related: Fun & Best Things to Do in Big Sur, California 9. When the tide is low, you can find crabs, sea urchins, starfish, and sea anemones, among other small marine life. You can also spend your day swimming, surfing, fishing, or exploring the sandy beach. While it is a popular spot, the rocky cliffs make it feel more secluded. Parking is free, a huge bonus, but it’s sometimes hard to find a parking spot.
Corona del Mar State Beach is easily one of the best free things to do in Newport Beach, California. 10. Stroll on the Newport Beach Pier kan_khampanya / Shutterstock Address: 1 Newport Pier, Newport Beach, CA 92663 Formerly known as the McFadden Wharf, the Newport Beach Pier is one of two prominent piers in Newport Beach. This wooden pier is known for the dory boats bringing in their fresh catches and selling them at the Dory Fleet Fish Market. Visitors can stroll the Newport Beach Pier or ride bikes or roller skates. You can also look at all the homes on the boardwalk, many of which are available for vacation rentals. While there used to be a sushi restaurant at the end of the pier, no restaurants have taken over its space. The beach at the base of the Newport Pier is soft sand, perfect for sunbathers and swimmers to enjoy year-round. Locals love this secluded spot because of the tide pools and rocky reefs that make this a diving destination. Because the beach is protected from large swells, it’s a perfect spot for families and beginner divers. Snorkelers love Little Corona Beach because of the eelgrass just beyond the water’s edge. In addition, there is a roped-off area where boats and jet skis are forbidden, giving swimmers and snorkelers a perfect place to explore. 15. Explore Nature at the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve

Thailand's Best Beaches
Tumblr media
Thailand's Best #Beaches - So many tropical beach paradises in Thailand, so little time. You kind of can’t go wrong on any beach in #Thailand but we picked a few of our favorites anyway, including entire islands with multiple beach options.
Want to stroll for miles along deserted stretches of silky, white sand? Snorkel, dive, and surf just offshore? Party under a full moon until dawn, or just hide away from the rest of the world? There’s a beach—and islands filled with a variety of beach options—for that in Thailand.
Tumblr media
Ko Jum This tiny car-free island is comprised of jungle, rubber trees, a few guesthouses and resorts, and that’s pretty much it. Somehow, the locals haven’t gone tourist crazy so it’s a true escape from more popular areas and just a great place for sunbathing, afternoon napping, and listening to waves lapping on the shore. There are no ferry piers or docks, so long-tail boats go to retrieve guests a few times a day from the big ferry boats out at sea.
Tumblr media
Railay Beach No roads, no cars, just paradise. Railay is a peninsula between Krabi Town and Ao Nang and can only be reached by boat so it is remote, laid-back, and much quieter than its neighbor, Ao Nang. Railay’s craggy limestone karsts attract climbers from all over the world, while the pristine, white sands and the lack of vehicles attract vacationers desiring a blissfully relaxing destination. It’s the kind of place to read a book, swim multiple times a day, take a long-tailed boat ride and island-hop, or just chill and soak in the stunning setting. If you get antsy, hop on a boat to Ao Nang where there’s a little more going on. Or don’t.
Tumblr media
Kata Beach An energetic and sporty family-friendly spot in Phuket, Kata Beach offers clear seas, white sands, plentiful accommodation options, lots of good food, and endless activities. There’s a wave park right at the beach entrance where you can rent surfboards or SUPs (Stand Up Paddleboards) and take lessons. Try acro-yoga on the beach then take to the water to snorkel, surf, and scuba dive. The south end of the beach is more relaxed if all that activity just seems too…active. INSIDER TIP - If the kids need a break from the sand, there’s a community park just across from the beach with jungle gyms.
Tumblr media
Ao Sane One of Phuket’s prettiest little beaches, this is tucked around the horn from Nai Harn; it’s not a huge beach and has lots of places for shade. There’s a decent little restaurant a few steps away so you can easily spend a dreamy day sunbathing, snorkeling, and swimming, barely moving from your spot for pretty papaya shakes and drinks and a light lunch of crab curry. INSIDER TIP - Allow time to explore. There’s plenty to see in this area, including the Big Buddha, Karon Viewpoint, Promthep Cape, and more.
Tumblr media
Ya Nui Another Phuket beauty, Ya Nui in the south of Phuket Island is a tiny beach that is split into two bays by a rock formation. It may be small but there are a few different sections to choose from: a cove to the left, a flat stretch in the middle, and some rocks to the right (where you’ll find good snorkeling). The water is that perfect blue-green, the setting features an island backdrop and grassy slopes, the attitude is relaxed and easy, and tiny thatch-roof restaurants serve up drinks and ice cream—what more could you need?
Tumblr media
Nai Harn At the southern tip of Phuket, almost two hours from the airport, this crescent of pristine white beach is off-the-beaten tourist track (which makes it worth the trek); think, “jungle-covered mountain backdrop, sailboats anchored in the distance when it’s season, a high-end resort on one end, and a lookout point with a windmill marking the other side.” The water is calm and clear with an occasional gentle wave. There are a few beachside restaurants where you can grab a coconut and bring it right down to the beach, or sit around in lounge chairs sipping Singhas with locals. There’s beach volleyball in the evenings, and sunset happy hour at the Rock Salt. It’s an easy, gorgeous spot to holiday for a while, and we recommend renting mopeds to explore the surrounding area.
Tumblr media
Laem Singh This hidden cove is accessible only by boat from Surin Beach (because the neighboring landowner doesn’t want tourists traipsing through his trees!). As small as this beach is, there are still lounge chairs and boogie boards for rent, in addition to a restaurant with decent food and drinks complete with very pretty views. Even on a cloudy day, Laem Singh feels tropical, with trees hugging the beach and turquoise waters lapping at the shore. When the waves are up, it makes a stellar spot for a bodyboarding. INSIDER TIP - If you want to get a look at this spot from above (and snap an excellent selfie), get on a scooter and stop at the Laem Singh View Point.
Tumblr media
Koh Yao Noi Remarkably untouristed despite its location just an hour’s boat ride from Phuket, Koh Yao Noi is the remote beach you’ve been dreaming of. While there’s internet in many of the guesthouses, this is a destination where you’ll find it easy to disconnect—fall asleep to the sounds of gently lapping waves, not a pumping bass. Rent a scooter and explore the island. Check out the little beach shacks along the beach, where you can get a simple lunch and have a dip in the calm waters. Find deserted stretches of beach that you can have all to yourself. Explore mountains and rainforests in the center of the island, and stop to photograph rubber plantations, rice paddies, palm trees and water buffalo. Stay at a backpacker-ish yoga shala for a weeks’ retreat, or kick it up a notch and stay at the Six Senses.
Tumblr media
Koh Bon Less than an hour’s boat ride from Rawai on the southeast coast of Phuket, Koh Bon is one of the smaller islands of the Similan Islands but delivers big on the basic necessities for a great beach day, with natural beauty, pristine sands, swings, and palm trees. Bring some supplies from a mini-mart in Rawai and just ask (offer to pay) your longtail driver to hang out for a few hours (he most likely will, closely moored to the other drivers, happily having a chat with his feet up). You might share this stretch of beach with some picnicking locals or a few couples posing for wedding photos, but otherwise it’s likely all yours.
Tumblr media
Bottle Beach Arrive by boat to this secluded cove known as the best beach on Koh Phangnan, a lifetime away from the raging Full Moon Parties on the south side of the island. Spend days snorkeling, kayaking, or hiking through the hills behind the beach, and your evenings just chilling and soaking in the serenity. (Long-tail boats deliver day tourists, but in the evening they depart and this end of the island empties out.) INSIDER TIP - This beach can also be accessed by motorbike, but it’s difficult, dangerous, and not recommended. Take a boat instead!
Tumblr media
Haad Salad The polar opposite of Haad Rin and its banging Full Moon Parties, Haad Salad is just a tiny, quiet cove, perfect for snorkeling and lazing the day away, waiting for the perfect pink splash of sunset. The beach here is perfection: white sandy bay with shallow, crystal-clear waters, shouldered by green cliffs. A great place to spend your time before and after the Full Moon Party and an even better place to just avoid it altogether.
Tumblr media
Silver Beach Koh Samui has plenty of long white sandy beaches populated with resorts, restaurants, massage parlors, and nightlife, but if you want a little break from the tropical hustle and bustle, visit Silver Beach, also known as Thong Takian Beach. Located in Crystal Bay Cove, between Lamai and Chaweng, Silver Beach is calm and quiet; its silver-white sands are dotted with boulders, and it’s bordered by jungle. Activity options include snorkeling, kayaking, and getting a relaxing massage under the shade of a tree on the beach.
Tumblr media
Koh Tao’s Beaches Koh Tao, meaning “turtle island,” is the place for all things diving and getting your PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certification, but it’s also known for its spectacular beaches. Spend some time on Shark Bay Beach and snorkel with blacktip reef sharks and green turtles in turquoise water. Sai Daeng Beach is one of Koh Tao’s best beaches for marine life, as is Ao Leuk, which has a small entry fee (but it’s worth it for the lounge chairs, cold drinks, and pretty beach). INSIDER TIP - In December and January, there are tiny jellyfish that populate the coast, but the little guys are harmless.
Tumblr media
Lonely Beach A backpacker-favorite for decades, Lonely Island on the eastern side of Thailand, has become slightly more upmarket, and it’s not so lonely anymore. The beach is beautiful, clean, uncrowded, and fringed with palm trees so it’s the perfect place to refine your beach bum skills. There’s a nightlife scene if you want to partake, with a few funky cocktail bars, and, if you’re lucky you can float in phosphorescence under the moonlight (a particularly popular pastime here).
Tumblr media
Koh Kood The fifth largest island in Thailand, but still relatively undeveloped, Koh Kood (also known as Koh Kut) is in the Gulf of Thailand, north of the maritime border with Cambodia. The island’s main beaches are spread out along the west and south coasts and while there isn’t one agreed-upon best beach, favorites include the lively Klong Chao and the picturesque Ao Noi. Snorkel, sunbathe, swim, and just snooze and when you tire of that, hike to Klong Yai Ki Waterfalls, or venture around the island to Ao Salat or Ao Yai fishing villages for barbequed fresh catches.
Tumblr media
Koh Kradan Just off Trang Province, this island is picture-postcard Thailand. Here, you’ll find powdery white sand and views across calm waters to the islands Ko Ngai, Ko Muk (which is a nice place to visit to explore the Emerald Cave), Ko Libong, and a few karst islets like Ko Lao Liang and Ko Phetra. Most of this island is part of the Hat Chao Mai National Park, and so it’s undeveloped. There are no cars or ATMs, just a few resorts, bungalows, and beaches galore. One of the most noteworthy is Ao Chong Lom Beach, or Sunset Beach, which is memorable for its—you guessed it—gorgeous sunsets. INSIDER TIP - Visit (or avoid) Koh Kradan around Valentine’s Day for its annual Underwater Wedding Ceremony, when couples from around the world swim up the aisle together. To participate, you and your partner must be certified divers.
Tumblr media
Koh Mai Phai Located between Krabi coast and the Phi Phi islands and also—misleadingly—known as Bamboo Island (the main flora here are Casuarinas trees), this tiny, heart-shaped island is home to a quiet and beautiful beach that gives off desert-island feels. Snorkel in the reef with hawksbill sea turtles, lionfish, and leopard sharks, and then head back to the bar shack on the north side for some nibbles and a cold beer. - Erin Gifford/fodors.com – You can follow BangkokJack on Instagram, Twitter & Reddit. Normally Shake Shack Crystal Cove have the Impossible burger but like everyone else they've run out. They claim to have an alternative veggie burger but it has cheese IN the patty. Sigh. Got a veggie sandwich with no cheese instead. https://www.instagram.com/p/ByglDm1Frbe/

A quick trip to Newport Beach and a strong left onto PCH, we sailed by the Shake Shack just above Crystal Cove. “Have you ever been there?” I asked my lovely wife. “No, let’s go.” She said quickly. We whipped a u-turn and duplicated it (not sure that second one was legal) to make the entrance to the Shake Shack. We were stacked up five deep so I had my dear wife get out (heaven forbid I should get out and walk 100 feet to order a shake.) and order for us because it looked to be a long wait for a shake. In a, shorter than I thought it was going to be time, I found a spot to park among the twenty slots available. (It is not for parking and walking down the hill to Crystal Cove and enjoying the old beach homes but that is another story.) We sat with a couple from Arizona that were visiting and enjoyed out time looking out over the ocean and sharing memories with people from another state. Will we return? Yes. The shake was great (date shake if you want to know.) and the company was fantastic. #shakeshack, #PCH, #OC, #ocean, #breeze, #john_baldessari, #dot, #bluesky #lensculture #portrait #art #instagood #photography #socialdocumentary #artist #contemporaryart #contemporaryartist , #followfollowfollow, @Patrick House 2018 Images and writing #instalike #instapic #instapost #instagood #instaquote #moodygrams #forgiveness, #streetlife,#wearethestreet #capturestreets #street_perfection #faces_of_streets, #storyofthestreet , #fromstreetswithlove `#lens#instagood #thestreetphotographyhub #urbanandstreet #streetleaks #streetphotographers #streetscape
