Very saddened that at the end of it all, Pidge fell into the secondary girl trope. Ya know, not conventionally beautiful or feminine, so any crush she has is treated as a joke. And DW gave of "the pretty girl can't pursue a guy without them turning out evil" trope AGAIN, she has to be pursued for it to be good. Toph's crush on Sokka and Zuko- joke. Ruffnut's crush on Eret- joke. Katara's crush on Jet- villain. Allura's crush on Lotor- "v i l l a i n".

You know, now that I think about it, why are there even secondary girl tropes like these? Beauty is the eye of the beholder. Imagine how much of an impact it would have been if Toph was the one who managed to have a loving relationship at the end. A blind girl who chose to give up her royal status, became the very first metal-bender champion, and truly understood that her looks did not matter as long as she knew herself? She did not have to prove herself to anyone because she knew she was already the best. 

I honestly thought she would have made a better lead female role than Katara, but for some reason, “good stories” always start with dead parents. Guess problematic ones, such as Toph’s who infantilized her because of her disability and still did not believe she was capable of being independent when she knocked out all the reigning champions in that wrestling rink, are the best secondary parent trope writers can think of. 

In any case, I have not seen LoK so I do not really know all the details. She has a family though, as far as I remember, so there is some happy ending for her.

The thrills and frights tied to writing my first fanfiction (Dyslexia)

I’m a dyslexic Scandinavian whose first language isn’t English, but I’m not going to let that stop me anymore. For several years now I’ve had a personal goal to write a story from start to finish; whether it be a fanfiction, or not. I’m currently feeling a mixture of elatedness and nervousness as I say this:  I’ve just published the first TWO  chapters of my very first fanfiction. Even though I’m a grown woman, this is a rather big deal to me. I think that most of us- no matter what our situation might be- end up putting unnecessary limits onto ourselves. In my situation I’ve never dared to write and publish my stories due to certain personal “disadvantages” I’m facing on the daily; I’m dyslexic, and English isn’t my first language. I’ve been hiding behind the fear of people being rude, but really.. I think I was the most rude to myself by refraining from writing freely when it’s been this kind of personal goal for so long.

To anyone with reading/writing difficulties who might be reading this: I’d like to encourage each and every one of you to not let it stop you from reaching for your personal goals! Even if my fanfic ends up with no views, it’s still a personal victory to me. Even if I end up receiving negative comments, it’s still an achievement for me to write, and publish, my work.  A little bit about the fanfic: The fanfiction features Shin Hyoseob(Crush) and Kim Haesol(Zion.T). Even though CRUSH.T might not be the most popular or sought after fanfic pairing/material to some, to me it’s a pairing that I’m rather passionate about. It makes it easier to write when you’re writing about something you thoroughly enjoy.  Cheers to trying new things, and to putting yourself out there!
