On Voyager, I wish we got even more snippets of what it’s like for Vorik to keep working under B’Ellana after the whole pon far episode.
They’re all stuck on the ship in the delta quadrant so letting them just fight it out seemed wise on Tuvok’s part, because it’s a xenosexual harassment incident but like…what are you gonna do? After that severe beatdown, it seems like Vorik is just grateful to never speak of it again and to carry on just trying to perform his best. But she’s got to be so annoyed with him all the time. The fact that nothing else super dramatic happens is a credit to both of them. If they weren’t stuck in the delta quadrant, I could see Vorik (voluntarily) being transferred — at least to another department head if not another ship. But they were forced to just work it out. She remains his superior officer. His crush is probably worse than ever because she keeps stepping on him, but for the next seven years he can hold it together. Maybe they’ll get okay enough that he could jokingly take credit for helping her get together with Tom.
Meanwhile every time he sees Tuvok he’s embarrassed for a while too. Tuvok is such a role model and awesome guy and has an eidetic memory and will never forget that he knows way more than is culturally proper. But needs must on Voyager. So they have to just pretend everything is cool too until maybe one day it actually is again.
Imagine the rumors flying around the rest of the crew too. Like, everyone saw or heard about the pon farr thing. Everyone saw him at his worst. Mortifying. I’m not even Vulcan and I’d be begging to transfer.

Voyager rewatch s3 ep16: Blood Fever
Oh my god it's this one!! Somehow I didn't expect it to be this early, either- I remembered it was in season 3 somewhere, but up till now, there's only been the smallest hint of set up for Tom and B'Elanna as a pairing, and then boom! A fuck-or-die episode! Voyager writers really love hitting us with the insane shippy episodes out of nowhere!
I gotta say, my otp having a fuck or die episode is something I will never be able to be normal about. Is it stupid? Yes. Pon farr being contagious is so stupid, but they do their best to make it reasonably plausible- we've got a Vulcan on board who has a crush on B'Elanna- what if he accidentally initiated a telepathic bond with her while he's going through pon farr, and then she got pon farr too? Sure! Let's do that! A fuck or die situation is a perfectly normal way to introduce a pairing for the first time! (It's not, it's crazy, how is this episode even real??)
But actually, it's a smart story device for their characters, considering they both grew up with emotionally unavailable parents, which usually makes people extremely resistant to sharing their true feelings, and more likely to push away the people and things they want most. Putting them into a fuck or die situation was an efficient way to get them to admit they have genuine interest in eachother without dragging it out forever. Up till now, Tom/B'Elanna had barely been a thing, storywise- they're friends, mostly because they're both friends with Harry, so they hang out together sometimes and do occasional projects together. We've had a few instances of Tom casually flirting with B'Elanna, and her just as casually shooting him down, but that's about it. Certainly nothing yet to indicate that either of them had serious feelings toward the other.
So they go on their away mission to gather a mineral they need from some abandoned mines on a jungle planet, wearing even more form fitting uniforms for rock climbing (because of course they have to have tighter clothes for the horny episode). B'Elanna seems to be acting a bit strangely, but she's in charge of the mission, so Tom and Neelix just go with it. Then Neelix's rope breaks as they climb down, and he gets injured, and B'Elanna uncharacteristically yells at him. Tom tells her to chill, but that pisses her off more, she bites Tom on the face, and storms off. (And for those of us who remember our Klingon lore from Next Gen, we know that biting someone on the face is a mating ritual. Imagine your crush admitting they like you, like that. This episode is insane!!)
Somehow, when Tom contacts Voyager to get help for Neelix and tell them what happened, Tuvok figures out that B'Elanna caught Vorik's pon farr. When Tuvok and Chakotay go down to rescue Neelix, Tuvok explains to Tom that B'Elanna now has fuck-or-die syndrome, and they have to find her and get her back to Voyager before she dies. They catch up with her in the cave, but there's a rockslide, and of course, Tom and B'Elanna are trapped alone together. And then we get some of the most insanely hot scenes in all of Star Trek.
I'm the first person to admit that Star Trek is usually terrible at romance, and even worse at sexytimes- I can't think of a single Next Gen ep where a scene that was supposed to be sexy didn't land somewhere between 'meh' and 'I just threw up in my mouth a little bit'. And I love Next Gen! They just didn't know how to be sexy, at all. Somewhere between Next Gen and Voyager, though, they figured it out. We've already had some hints of it with all the Janeway/Chakotay they've been throwing at us, but they really went for it here with B'Elanna and Tom, and it worked.
Robbie McNeill and Roxann Dawson having off-the-charts onscreen chemistry certainly helped, but the writing here actually gave them a lot of layers to work with. There's a very erotically charged scene of a messy haired, tank top clad B'Elanna making overtures to Tom, but because Tom actually is a good person, he refuses to take advantage of B'Elanna having fuck-or-die syndrome, even though he's been trying to hit that for months. So then, to diffuse things, Tom asks B'Elanna if she's telling him he's impossible to resist, and he gives her the smuggest, goofiest grin, which, of course, she can't give him the satisfaction of admitting to. She backs off, and they continue on their trek through the caves, and it's honestly the most adorable thing he could have done, and somehow kind of makes me more insane for them??
Meanwhile, by their next scene, the pon farr is getting worse, so B'Elanna tries again with Tom, and this scene has lived in my head rent free ever since. It manages to be sensuous, and tender, and incredibly sexy, all at the same time. It's beautifully shot- the lighting is gorgeous and atmospheric, with the flashlights on their wrists providing beams of light that dance around their faces, and catch the dust swirling in the air around them. The camera is very close to them, they're sweaty and breathing heavily, they're looking into each other's eyes, finally admitting how attracted they are to each other, touching each other so softly, as they flit between holding back and giving in- the music swells when they kiss, and it's just... hot, hot stuff. A+, 10/10, no notes.
And then the kicker, that makes all of it not only unbearably sexy, but unbearably angsty- when B'Elanna tells him she wants him, he looks sad, and says he hopes she'll say that to him and mean it one day- and we realize that a) he doesn't believe that she actually likes him back and b) this sad motherfucker is in love with her, and doesn't want their first time to be a fuck or die, he wants it to be special and meaningful. Oh my goddd. These writers are sadists, and they wanted us not only to ship it, but to suffer for it. And it worked!!! I did!!! Almost three goddamn decades later and these idiots are still my Star Trek otp!!! How?! In one episode?! One scene?! Diabolical!!! Thank god they were endgame, because this was torture!!!
So anyway, that was obviously not what B'Elanna wanted to hear in that moment, and she pushes him away angrily- the mood is ruined, which was what he wanted, but it also makes them both miserable. Thanks I hate it!!! I'm totally invested, after only one episode, yet again!!!
So then Chakotay and Tuvok find them and bring them back to the jungle, but they can't make contact with Voyager, so Tuvok basically orders Tom to go have sex with B'Elanna so she doesn't die before they can get her to sickbay. Tom agrees, but he's the literal worst about it - B'Elanna is all over him, and he says he doesn't know what to do. Are you kidding?? Thomas Eugene 'I lost my virginity at 17 and I have to tell everyone about it' Paris, that is a lie. Shut up. Kiss her back, you spineless weasel. He does finally get over the morality police in his head, and realize it's probably okay to have sex with someone you like who likes you, especially if doing so will literally save their life. But by the time he figures this out, it's too late- Vorik beams down, and challenges him to ritual combat over B'Elanna, which challenge Tom accepts, but B'Elanna chooses herself as her own champion (iconic tbh) and she beats the crap out of Vorik (he's okay though), which resolves both their pon farr symptoms.
We then cut back to the ship, where a few days have passed, and Tom and B'Elanna awkwardly find themselves in a turbolift together. After a minute of not being able to make eye contact, Tom comes out and says they have to talk about it, but B'Elanna sidesteps the whole thing by telling him she didn't mean anything she said while they were on the planet, so it's all fine. Tom is disappointed, and he tells her that if she was worried about her scary Klingon side showing, he didn't think it was scary, and he wouldn't mind seeing it again. She surprises him by telling him to be careful what he wishes for as she walks away, and it's an unmistakably flirty overture. Ship officially established! I'm gonna be insane about it forever!!!
Oh, and then the very last scene is Janeway and Chakotay finding a goddamn dead Borg on the planet, because of course we can't just have nice things like no recurring villains for any stretch of damn time, can we?! (I hate literally all of Voyager's recurring villains, especially the Borg, and feel that the show's best episodes are always with one-off villains, but here we are. Sigh.)
But the Borg aren't the point of this episode, my otp is. Even when I was too young to appreciate how sexy this whole thing was, the chemistry Tom and B'Elanna have together was still obvious, and I've shipped it ever since. And they actually developed it!!! This episode is historic just by virtue of being the start of an actual, canon romance between two lead characters that actually got developed and paid off, which was a Star Trek first back then. Sometimes I'm not sure what's hotter- this episode, or all the character development they gave them later, lol. But the bottom line is that I'm 100% here for it. Sorry not sorry for the annoying shipper I'm going to become as the series progresses. Two of my faves actually got together in canon, no one can be expected to be normal about that!
Tl;dr: Another insanely shippy episode dropped on us from out of nowhere, that unexpectedly delivers some well thought out character scenes that make it work. A sizzling start to Tom and B'Elanna's romantic arc, which develops through the rest of the series. A tropey, but well crafted, work of horny, horny art.

Agreed, especially given that barely any Vulcans in 'Enterprise' use telepathy at all, as it's seen as new and unusual and unsafe
In 'Voyager' Tuvok's solution to anything is let me mind meld doctor, and the EMH's response is nearly always, no Tuvok it's a bad idea, it's dangerous and remember what happened last time when you turned serial-killer?
In 'Enterprise', when Archer's crew meet the Vulcans that show emotion, eat meat and try out unsafe telepathy, T'Pol is convinced into a mind meld and the situation is presented as parallel to non consensual
I've always seen the mind meld as very intimate, like sex but not sexual, and way more powerful
The Vulcan kiss is not particularly telepathic, just linked to culture
Pon Farr is a whole other business, we see in 'Voyager' that through touch, Vorik manages to establish some mating link between himself and B'Elanna, but we know that telepathy goes wild during Pon Farr
I agree with op that mind melds seem way more complex and draining than just 'give me a high five, oh I never realised you had a crush on me' (sorry to infodump all my star trek thots)
not a fan of the fandom idea that vulcans just have a telepathy channel open through skin-to-skin contact all the time. I don't think it makes sense that with all their control, even over bodily functions, they wouldn't at least suppress that if they had it. from what I've seen melds have very specific points and need to be initiated intentionally and require some effort.
plus the sensitive hands fanon thing like I don't think vulcan hands are especially megasensitive or anything. they're just what they use to do things. I think they have a significance of intimacy in a cultural way but not in a physical erogenous zone way

Happy Blood Fever Day!!!
Oh Blood Fever, you glorious Star Trek Voyager episode! Blood Fever first aired February 5, 1997, when I was an impressionable teen with a huge crush on Tom Paris. I was already hooked on Voyager and was shipping P/T, so this episode was like seeing all of my shipping hopes and dreams come true.
It's easy to look at this episode and think of all tropes that make it so much fun. We've got sex pollen, fuck or die, trapped together (not only that but trapped with heightened hormones!), having to fight for your lover, flirting, witty banter-this episode has it all!
Yet Blood Fever is really so much more than that.
We've seen Tom and B'Elanna dancing around each other for some time now. They started out not quite as enemies, but they disliked each other. And slowly they came to see that they were very similar-they found in each other someone who understood and could see past their walls. They pushed and challenged each other and a friendship formed. And it was a fun friendship with lots of flirting and chemistry.
But Tom knew he had to take it slow. B'Elanna was not going to fall for his usual charms and that made her special. She was different. And B'Elanna was not going to let her guard down until she felt she could really trust Tom. But the attraction was there and flirting was fun.
So when B'Elanna gets stricken with Pon Farr, it makes sense that the person she would feel a bond with, that she would choose as her mate would be Tom. This wasn't simply a case of we're trapped in a cave and you're my option. It was more of a my inhibitions have been lowered and I'm finally letting myself admit what I've been feeling.
Yet when Tom is presented with what he has been wanting, he shows his true self. We've been led to believe that Tom is a ladies man, that he's out to flirt and sleep his way around. But this episode shows that has all been a cover and who he really is is a man who cares and who cares deeply. He tells B'Elanna that he can't accept because she's not in her right mind to give consent. That if he gives in now, it will ruin any chance of a relationship they might have in the future and he cares about her too much to do that. I also think he's starting to realize that he wants something more with B'Elanna-this isn't a fling, but the real deal and he doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize that.
His rejection stings. The way B'Elanna thinks he doesn't want her hurts. The way Tom thinks that she's only telling him she's interested because of the Pon Farr and not letting himself believe that she is finally telling the truth. Those walls come right back up. But for a moment we see what the two of them can't quite see yet-that they really, truly care about each other and that this is more than flirtation.
Sure, this episode has the first P/T kiss. There are so many great lines! And let's be honest, that whole cave scene, with the wrist lights-it's hot!
But more than that, this episode made a big impression on me for three reasons:
1. Consent is sexy: Tom says no because he doesn't have B'Elanna's consent and knows it would be taking advantage of her. He's even hesitant to comply with Tuvok's order to relieve her of the Pon Farr because he knows B'Elanna is not in the right frame of mind. He doesn't jump at this chance, but talks to B'Elanna, tells her he understands, that they don't have to do this. He waits until she gives the ok and even then, he's hesitant and waiting for her lead. This was huge, especially for the 90's when this episode aired. Tom puts B'Elanna first-her feelings, her thoughts, her consent. And that is very powerful and sexy.
2. Strong women are sexy: B'Elanna is often seen as a tough Klingon who is to be feared. So often strong women are presented in a way that is not attractive or that they can't be strong and smart and also be sexy. But B'Elanna proves all of that wrong here as she shows that strong women are absolutely hot.
(Also bonus, my girl punches Vorik who absolutely needed to punished in this episode!)
3. It's ok to be vulnerable: At the end, Tom says that B'Elanna is afraid her Klingon side was showing, meaning her strong-willed, forceful side. She's also embarrassed that she let her mask slip in the caves-she told Tom the truth (even if he doesn't believe it), she let her guard down, and she had moments of vulnerability. And instead of running away, Tom is right there for it, staying by her side, and encouraging this side of her-both her strong side and her softer, vulnerable side. He says he wants to see it again and in his flirtatious way, shows that it's not something to embarrassed or afraid about-it's something to be proud of.
This episode taught me that it's ok to be a strong woman who knows what she wants. And it's also ok to be vulnerable. I wanted to be like B'Elanna when I grew up and I hope that I'm doing her at least a little proud.
So let's raise a glass to Lisa Klink (writer extraordinaire) for creating this marvelous episode! To Tom and B'Elanna-the best Trek couple! Happy Blood Fever Day!

The Date (part three)
A/N: Yeah y/n wears a dress in this. Yeah they're still gender neutral. Personally I'm imagining them as a 5'9 hairy trans guy, if that helps.
____________________________________________
The replicator usually covered a wide range of meals from every planet, from Vulcan to human to Klingon. But standing in front of it now, Vorik got the impression that there was no suitable recipe anywhere to find.
He sighed internally, before deciding he'd simply let you order for yourself. It was the most logical conclusion anyways, and a way for him to find out more about your likes and dislikes. Maybe you could discuss the different foods of your worlds? Or would that be too boring a topic for you?
He paused his pacing that he has absentmindedly done for the past ten minutes. Why was he so... nervous?
He was just going to get to know his colleague a little better, to better their productivity and overall work experience, nothing else.
Vorik nodded. Very logical, he thought, beginning to pace again.
Walking past the small window in his room, he took in the sight of his reflection and straightened his uniform for the fourth time this evening. He sighed. His uniform was the right thing to wear. You were colleagues, and this was, despite what his deeper mind was trying to convince him of, a work related meeting.
He closed his eyes in question. He was more...skittish than usual. No doubt a result of this month's anomalies, which centered mainly around the ship's systems. He was exhausted, and still his mind was understimulated- it was strange to be so devoid of contact.
Telepathic contact, that is. The bonds he had with his family had been strong before voyager's departure, but now they were weak, fragile. He secretly longed for connection, even if he'd never admit it out loud.
Maybe he hoped you would offer that connection, or at least come close to it. You had voiced some...affections, toward him.
Vorik silently shook his head, dismissing the thought as it came. You may look up to him, for whatever reason, but that didn't mean you were in any means attracted to him.
Still, he checked himself in the mirror one last time, before going to pick you up.
_
"God, what do I do, what do I do?!"
Exclamations about a deity you didn't believe in echoed through your quarters as you hastily went through your closet.
You'd spend all night yesterday freaking out about your crushe's invite, so you ended up passing out before you could even think of what to wear to the date. And now, it was only one hour away.
It was a date, right? you thought, looking at the deep green dress in your hands.
You had read up on Vulcan beauty standards long before you'd developed a crush on the handsome ensign. Apparently, the color of their blood was just as erotic to a Vulcan as it is to a Human. A fact which you absolutely did not have in mind when you purchased this dress on your shore leave some time ago.
And if this really was a date, you'd want to look as tantalizing as possible, wouldn't you? Yet that little voice in the back of your head kept screaming at you not to wear it, that it'd be too informal, that you should wear just your uniform as usual.
Your eyes wandered over to your unused dress uniform, considering wearing it as a compromise but quickly decinging against it. Now THAT would be too formal.
After looking from the dress, and back to your uniform for a while, you finally made a decision-
"...Didn't know I looked so good in green.."
The dress was tight around your chest, yet loose around your waist. Easy too move in and in a material that didn't give you sensory issues. It was sleeveless, too. Something which would probably benefit you given the temperature vulcans usually preferred to be in.
The only issue was, you were so not used to wearing dresses. It was only halfway to your knees, and you kept checking yourself if it rode up your thighs. You didn't want to flash Vorik, after all. You laughed at the thought, imagining the horrified look on the ensign's face.
He... probably didn't even think about this as a date, if you were being honest to yourself. Your crush on him wasn't exactly secretive as much as you would hope it was. You'd always been easy to read, you've been told.
So given the fact that despite all your blushing and unusually heavy stammering, he just thought you didn't enjoy working with him- that young genius of an ensign you so adored, was not all that bright when it came to romantic feelings.
It made your heart sting a little. He had asked you on a date without even knowing the implications, he didn't even think of you as a friend- how could he? You barely knew each other. Or rather he barely knew you, as you'd done extensive research on his person.
But as you checked yourself in the mirror once again, seeing the way the dress deliciously hugged your plump figure, you couldn't help but smirk. Then maybe you should be a little more obvious about it?
Vulcans enjoyed being bold, after all.

From my long-in-progress WIP Regency and Regeneration, a crossover of Forever/Star Trek Voyager.

"Are you that idiot who's been complaining of console problems twice a week?" Torres asked sharply.
"Ah, no, that would be Ensign Kyoto — I believe she has a slight crush on your Ensign Vorik,” Henry mused.
"He's not my — wait, Vorik? she has a crush on a Vulcan?"
"Vulcans have a certain allure," Henry reminisced fondly.
"I'll be sure to tell Tuvok you said so."
Alarmed, Henry looked up to see Torres grinning at him.

So for shits and giggles I decided to try and make a chart of the various romantic entanglements of some trek shows and. Wow did it get messy. Lmao this is bad but here it is
So basically. Quark has had a casual fling with Hanok (the guy he diffused a bomb with), Quark and Pel were both crushing on each other really hard, Quark and Vash had a one night stand, Vash and Q are exes who are playing a psychosexual mind game with each other, Q is trying to play a psychosexual mind game with Janeway but it's not working very well, Janeway is exes with Mark, Chakotay has some sorta feeling for Janeway he's trying to ignore, Chakotay has some sorta feeling for Tuvok he's trying to ignore, and Tuvok is married to T'Pel. Back to Quark, he and Natima Lang are exes but they're pining for each other, Quark and Larell had a casual fling, Quark is Hagath's sugar baby and has had a casual fling with Talura (Hagath's other sugar baby). Also Gaila and Hagath have Something going on but it's a hookup of equals, Gaila is not a sugar baby or a sugar daddy. Quark and Grilka are exes who are now casually dating just for funsies, Quark and Odo have weird chemistry they're trying to ignore, and Brunt (FCA) and Quark are exes who are playing psychosexual mind games. Odo and Lwaxana have weird chemistry they're (mostly) ignoring (Lwaxana isn't great at ignoring it but she respects people's boundaries kinda sorta). Lwaxana is playing psychosexual mind games with Picard (but in a fun way), and Picard and Q are playing psychosexual mind games with each other and are long term committed. Picard and Beverly have chemistry they're kinda sorta ignoring. Beverly and Deanna are long term committed, Tasha and Deanna are long term committed, Deanna and Worf are long term committed, and Deanna and Riker are long term committed. Riker and Quark are friends with benefits. Quark and Bashir are. Not exactly friends with benefits, but definitely something past a one night stand. Bashir and Garak are long term committed. Garak and Parmak are long term committed. Garak and Dukat had a hatefuck one night stand. Dukat is trying to play psychosexual mind games with Sisko (it's not working well for him, though). Sisko and Kassidy are married. Dukat and Damar were workplace fuckbuddies. Damar and Weyoun are hatefuck fuckbuddies (enemies with benefits). Going back to Bashir, he and Data are crushing on each other a bit. Data and Geordi are long term committed. Geordi and Bochra had a fling and came out of it potentially as fuckbuddies (DEFINITELY friends, at least). Bashir and Martok had a casual thing going when they were imprisoned together. Martok and Sirella are married. Bashir and Miles are friends with benefits, Miles and Keiko are married, and Miles and Kira have weird chemistry they're ignoring. Keiko and Kira are both crushing on each other. Kira and Cretak are both pining for each other. Kira and (Jadzia) Dax are both pining for each other. Dax and Leeta are friends with benefits/maybe casually dating a little. Leeta and Rom are married. Leeta and Bashir were casually dating but are now exes (but there's a little something still there). Dax and Worf are married. Worf and Riker are long term committed. Worf and K'Ehleyr are were married (rip K'Ehleyr). Dax has a crush on Morn. Dax has a crush on Spock. (Emony) Dax and Bones hooked up. Bones and Kirk are long term committed, Bones and Spock are long term committed (but messier about it), Kirk and Spock are married, and Uhura and Spock are long term committed. Spock and T'Pring are exes, and T'Pring is long term committed to Stonn. Uhura has a crush on T'Pring, and Uhura and Chapel are long term committed.
There is also the little triad of B'Elanna, Vorik, and Tom (all married to each other).
And that's (in my opinion) the ultimate and definitive polycule
