Gosh, this is so lovely! 😍

I luckily managed to snag one of the commission spots from @crunchyncrumbly in the last wave, and they were kind enough to bring these two to life in some golden post-Kirkwall years. (Or, if this is the Iron Bound world, perhaps some secret vacation home on the mountain?)

It's such an odd thing, but even though this piece is breathtakingly beautiful, I found myself getting the most emotional over seeing their little cottage in the background. For as much as I've written about them having this place, I never really had a clear image of it in my head. Now it's not only clear, it feels anchored in my mind, and that's entirely due to @crunchyncrumbly's masterful touch here.

I love their expressions, I adore their clothing and Hawke's apron, and the coloring makes me almost feel the sunlight. The glimpse of mountain on either side honestly makes me emotional, and the intimacy and familiarity of their expressions and body language and gestures are like you reached into my heart and squeezed.

I'm absolutely in love with this art of my durge Katriel and Astarion by @crunchyncrumbly. My headcanon for them is that Astarion starts braiding Kat's hair for her/helping her learn to braid it once Niamh and Gale start getting closer. It's a nice way for them to be close without being sexual once Astarion's act 2 confession happens.

WIP Wednesday

It's that time of the week! Now that I'm back from vacations I've been working on the next chapter of you're a walking disaster and yet-, which is very close to being finished (but augh, the heartbreak):

“So this is how it’s going to be now? You’ll just sit there by yourself and not talk to anybody?”

Patroclus glances up at Achilles, his humble lunch of bread and cheese forgotten in his hands. The sun blinds him and hurts his eyes. Achilles is glaring at him, arms folded before his chest. His eyes are hard and his jaw is set, a muscle playing at his temple. 

“Not anybody,” Patroclus says. “Just you.” 

“Well, too fucking bad, you’re talking to me right now. So just give up the act, okay? It isn’t funny anymore.”

Patroclus' anger flares hot. The fucking mouth on him. “Get out of my face, Achilles.” 

Achilles tsks, planting his feet even more firmly on the ground. “What did I even say to you, huh? What did I say? I just said—”

Patroclus doesn’t wait to hear the rest of it. He shoves his lunch back in his bag and gets up. Recess will be over soon anyway, he doesn’t have time for this pointless conversation. 

Achilles catches his arm. 

“Why are you being like this?” he asks, his voice hard, but Patroclus thinks he can detect a sharp and desperate edge there. “I told you I didn’t mean it like that. If you’d stayed for just one minute…” 

The words peter out into nothingness. When Patroclus doesn’t turn around to look at him, he lets out a shaky sigh. “Pat, come on,” he whispers. “Please.” 

This is the moment, Patroclus thinks. The moment to take the hair tie off his wrist and toss it at his feet, to trample it in the dust for good measure, to pay him back with the same coin. It would be so good if he could do that. It would only be fair. It would make him feel so much better about… all of this.  

The moment the thought crosses his mind, he knows it for the lie it is. He can’t do it. Can’t find it in his heart to cross that line. Maybe he’s just a coward deep down, soft and weak like his father always told him, but he doesn’t want to hurt Achilles, not even in retaliation. Whatever twisted fantasy he had of doing that tastes bitter now that he’s near him. Hurting him would only hurt Patroclus more. And deep down he knows that even though Achilles didn’t keep his promise, Patroclus is still so desperate to hold onto his own. So desperate for this, for him, that it shames him. 

“I have to go,” he mutters, before he can lose his nerve. He slips free of Achilles’ grasp and hurries back to the classroom, with minutes until the end of recess to spare.

July Recs!

Fic Recs

a scarlet thread of fate by @rosella-writes. Morrigan/Loghain. 4300 words so far, rated M. This is a work in progress (2 of 4 chapters so far). Rosella writes a deeply thoughtful and complex young Morrigan, wrestling with her complex feelings about her mother, the quest she is determined to complete, and what a sudden change of party means for her.

it ends, or it doesn't by @dreadfutures. Felassan, Merrill, a dog, and some other characters! 45,000 words, rated T. In the post-Trespasser future, a no-longer-Tranquil Felassan and his emotional support dog attend an Arlathvhen, where the former Inquisitor is to wed the Dread Wolf and be presented with a special gift--only to have the festivities interrupted by a horrifying crime. A reluctant Felassan take the lead to solve the mystery, and clear a maligned Keeper's name, bringing to light ancient secrets along the way. Both a thrilling and tightly-paced murder mystery, and a moving and thoughtful piece about personal and cultural identity, confronting the past, and looking to the future. There are also some gorgeous illustrations to go along with this story: @adurna0-art's illustration as part of the Dragon Age Big Bang, this piece by @sbeep and these by @crunchyncrumbly

Her Own Shall Bless Her by @sunspeared. Leliana/Morrigan, and Kieran. 3000 words, rated G. While Kieran hides from his magic lessons with Madame de Fer, Leliana and Morrigan connect again at Skyhold, and Morrigan offers Leliana a glimpse of a memory from her past in the Fade. A gorgeous piece with excellent character writing and lovely attention to detail throughout.

#Shadows in the Sun - DA4 World State

My official DA4 world state! A Fereldan feral child stumbles across the Hero, Halevune Mahariel, and he helps her find her name: Ixchel. Eventually she flees Fereldan to the Free Marches, where Clan Lavellan takes her in. Fearing that she will never truly fit in, Ixchel volunteers to attend the Conclave as a spy for her clan and prove herself to be useful. Instead, at only 16 years old, she becomes the Herald and then the Inquisitor. She is pulled in many directions by her advisors and companions and generally has a really fucked up world state. By the time Corypheus is defeated, Ixchel comes to think of the Inquisition as her family—a family that no longer needs an Inquisitor. With her clan massacred, Ixchel has no purpose and no place in the world. She travels with Kieran, Morrigan, and Mahariel for a while, but once Mahariel grows too sick to travel, Ixchel leaves, for she thinks that she's intruding on that little family's grief. She doesn't know that they considered her family, too. She attends the Exalted Council in the midst of a deep depression made worse by the Anchor's destabilization and the tension of politics surrounding the Inquisition. Solas's revelation—and his refusal to let her join him—drives her nearly to the edge of her sanity, and she never fully recovers. She spends a few years trying to thwart his plans or come up with an alternative, but she views it as a hopeless cause, and she leads a lonely existence in an empty Skyhold. In my Bloodied and Broken world state, she dies at this point. But in my DA4 world state, Kieran comes to her and pleads for her to help him find his mother, who bears the Well of Sorrows and has gone missing. Ixchel, now 26 or so, sets off with Kieran, now 21, to find the very farthest edge of Thedas—and what lies beyond it. (Assuming the Inquisitor does not make an appearance in DA4.)

Thus, the Mirrorverse was born. ALL ARE WELCOME!! If anyone wants to play in this sandbox or read OCs interacting in each others’/an in-between reality, I have an OPEN collection for fics that have any Dragon Age OCs crossing universes via mysterious eluvians! Main Series Reading Order:

1.0 - Lead Her Through the Darkness - [BECandCall]:Oneshot. Complete.This is the story of how Ixchel found her name. BECandCall aka DuchessofSwoll wrote this gift for me during the Dragon Age Fanfiction discord server’s OC swap month.

1.1 - Two-Handed: INCOMPLETE. The story of Ixchel’s first life, as a teenage Inquisitor. Ixchel comes to the Conclave as an effort to win favor from Clan Lavellan. She does not have vallaslin, or any experience as a warrior--or any idea of how precious friends and family could be. This is not a Solavellan story.

1.2 - Ruined Empires and Dust: Drabbles from Ixchel’s young life. Angsty.

1.3 - The Vallaslin:Oneshot. Complete.Ixchel is finally offered the vallaslin of Dirthamen after proving to Keeper Hawen how dedicated she is to preserving Elven history. Solas cannot in good conscience let her take them. Not without a warning. (Follow-up post here.)

1.4 - The Hope of Fen’Harel: Oneshot. Complete. Ixchel’s Trespasser eluvian scene with Solas. 

2.0 - Dead Pasts and Dread Futures. 170 chapters, 600k. Complete. Ixchel is in her mid-twenties when she ends her life, tired of being the Hope of Thedas and the Hope of Fen’Harel, and tired of being alone. As the world ends, she gets resurrected and sent back in time. She is very angry, and very depressed about it. Ixchel struggles. She finds hope.

The Mirrorverse Collaborative AU

The Dragon Age Fanfic Writers Discord Server anniversary (Aug 2021) generated a bunch of crossover-type gift fis and introduced the idea of a multiverse connected by eluvians. Thus, the Mirrorverse was born.

If anyone wants to play in this sandbox or read OCs interacting in each others’/an in-between reality, I have an open collection for fics that have any Dragon Age OCs crossing universes via mysterious eluvians! They’re fun to play with and people are making gifts for their friends or just having their own OCs interact, it’s great!

We love seeing this device, please use it and tag us/submit to the collection! This isn’t limited to friends-of-mine/members of any server. We just love this gimmick and would love more multiverse interactions out there. It’s such a fun way to play with OCs.
