It's wild how my views on Venoct changed.

2014 me: Teehee Venoct's pretty cool. What an edgy dragon-Sasuke. The other Venoct's are ok ig, I don't care about them except that they're also Venoct.

2025 me: Shadow Venoct is pretty interesting. His identity is tied to another person, but he's not treated like the other person. Where Venoct is respected and praised, Shadow Venoct is feared and avoided. He was trained by a literal assasin and is skilled in "the deadly arts", but he sucks at social skills and communication. His mentor Extreme Venoct probably means a lot to him, but Extreme Venoct also contributed to how feared Shadow is by association. It's harder to think about Extreme Venoct, who only appeared in one puni event and anime episode, but the little that is known is also interesting. The emphasis on him being an assasin implies a lack of anything else. That's all he has and is. He taught Shadow Venoct in past tense, so clearly their mentorship ended at some point before and doesn't apply in the present. He serves Rinne to fulfill his need for revenge by attempting assasination on Enma. There has to be a story behind that, how he lives and breathes through assasination because it's all he knows. He doesn't know how to do anything else, that's why he lost his student and ended up serving Rinne. And then there's Illuminoct, the polar opposite. He's usually characterized by the fandom as more expressive and socially-adept than the other Venocts, so his life should be pretty good in comparison. However, instead, that ironically makes him seem more flat. Every Venoct has a thing, like Shadow's edginess or Sakura's cuteness, but Illuminoct's thing is just brightness. It doesn't leave as strong of an opinion as the other Venocts, as proven by the abundance of Illuminoct plushes on ebay compared to the other Venoct plushes. His expressiveness, his number one trait, makes him less mysterious, and therefore, he's less "interesting" than the other Venocts. Every Venoct is their own character, and that's pretty cool.

Oh and Venoct himself (game or anime, idk) is ok. He's the basis for every other Venoct, but I don't have an opinion on him. 🤷‍♀️

I think, perhaps one of the funniest things to come from EPIC popularising the Odyssey is that now a ton of people think Poseidon wanted to kill Odysseus.

In the Odyssey, Poseidon has no intention of killing Odysseus. In fact, part of the whole reason Zeus lets Poseidon do whatever he wants even though he thinks Odysseus is rad and should get to kiss his wife is explicitly because Poseidon had no intentions of killing Odysseus. Poseidon wanted to pay back the suffering/inconvenience blinding Polyphemus would have caused. It's a really abstract thing tbh. How do you pay back someone permanently disabling your son? Poseidon's solution was just to amputate Odysseus from his other half; i.e. Penelope. The end game was never murder, it was always an endurance race.

Also, for those wondering if there's any sort of in text reason for why Poseidon wasn't around in God Games - at the time in the Odyssey when Athena petitions Zeus to let Odysseus leave Calypso's island, Poseidon was -checks notes- on vacation in Ethiopia. Yep. He left to Ethiopia for a festival and thusly was very much absent for Athena's whole "please let Ody go? Please? 🥺" request.

At my massage yesterday I gave the lady explicit permission to fuck me right the hell up. Muscle tightness has been leading to some tinglies going down my left arm a situation that terrified her when I described it until I reassured her my partner is a doctor and it’s purely muscular and not a sign of heart attack.

She went to town. It was not a pleasure but rather an overwhelming wash of sensation.

Today I am covered in bruises and cupping marks. I can’t actually hug my beloved because I’m too tender but my arm tinglies feel better.

Also randomly back to the top, I once did concoct a scenario where a plague hits the Dark Cacao Kingdom funny enough. Though it specifically only hit the Citadel as it was the result of all the Licorice monsters that had come into the Citadel during Episodes 13-14. I just bring it up because now it’s actually happening

And also while all this stress is happening, man has to play what I assume is Go, but correct me if I’m wrong

So I got a youtube comment on an animation, claiming they were tricked by the thumbnail. I get it, I commissioned another artist to make the thumbnail so obviously it looks different from the video.... but then I realized what that sounds like: clickbait.

I thought what I did was fine because other youtubers do it, but usually those youtubers are gamers or singers. I'm an animator, so my case might be less excusable. For reference, here's the thumbnail compared to the animation.

i think some of the trouble i’m having with figuring magpie out is that i initially planned them to live in a world where elves are oppressed and the crows are an organization that trains children to kill so rigorously that many die before becoming proper assassins and until ~10 years ago the majority of mages lived locked in towers because the general population found them too frightening to live freely and bioware kind of smoothed out many of these edges in veilguard and now i don’t have like. any of those hooks i expected to have to anchor magpie as a Person In The World. i mean granted the mage thing was always going to be less of a big deal bc ik the culture around mages in antiva was different even when the circles Did exist but the other stuff i like… idk i guess i didn’t Expect the whole elven oppression thing to be so smoothed over and sanitized. but it’s barely mentioned?? bellara straight up was like “will people dislike elves after this?” as if they don’t already? the shadow dragons are fighting slavery in tevinter, a thing that has historically happened Mostly To Elves, and yet that’s never mentioned directly. as an elf rook i never get to have an opinion on being an elf in minrathous. i don’t Get to tell bellara that they already hate us. i recognize it was prob wishful thinking but i had hoped we could play a smidge more with the dynamic of being a city elf contending not only with the fact that the elven gods you’ve never worshipped are real but also that they’re Evil. instead every other character talks to magpie as if these are her gods too and they’re not!! they never were! but there’s never really an option to outright say that! the only chance i’ve had so far to say they’re not my gods was worded as if i rejected them for being tyrants with no option to acknowledge that i’ve NEVER worshipped them?? as if city elves no longer exist to bioware when like. to Me that was the most interesting part of elves!

and obvs i figured the crows would be humanized a little more but it really does feel like everyone there has Chosen to be an assassin and could leave if they wanted. the fledgling jacobus is treated with like. kid gloves by both heir And the two talons present which is not exactly consistent with Training So Grueling It Kills Children? this is a much less big deal for many reasons (including that there is definitely a certain Lens the crows are allowing you to see them through as an outsider (and/or because you have outsiders with you for a crow rook) that may easily conceal many of the realities of the org. and also bc it’s just not a big deal) but it is still kind of baffling to come up against when i came into the game as zevranlover69
