so back in the early days of the pandemic i had just started my job right i was fresh out of uni working in tech and after only six months of being in my first adult grown-up job we all had to start working from home okay so im there in my little flat working from home on my laptop from the sofa of my living room ferret running around my feet and one day all us fresh-faced baby grads get pulled into a zoom call to talk about how we're dealing with working from home and how we're handling things and work/life balance and all that and the call is mostly fine like it's boring and obvious but its fine but then at the end of the call the person running it was like so what's the biggest issue you're currently facing and someone else WHO I KNEW FROM MY INTERNSHIP was immediately like oh i just find it SOO hard to switch off from work you know haha i have nothing else to do i just keep working and then i look at the clock and oh whoopsie its 7pm what a silly fool i am i just work so hard!! and the person running the call went oh thats interesting is anyone else having that AND EVERYONE ELSE IN OUR SEVEN-PERSON FOCUS GROUP WENT OH YEAH ME TOO I GET SO LOCKED INTO WORK ITS CRAAAAAAZY I WORK SO MUCH IT'S SO EASY FOR ME TO GET LOST IN MY JOB

at which point i leaned right into my microphone and said [in business language] what the fuck are you guys talking about are you fucking insane every single day i struggle to log in i struggle to focus my ps4 is 1.5 metres away from me and video games are RIGHT THERE my ferret is snoring adorably in his hammock and there's a global fucking pandemic happening i cant focus for shit are you goddamn insane what is WRONG with you all

and that was the day that i discovered that all software developers are liars

So I got a youtube comment on an animation, claiming they were tricked by the thumbnail. I get it, I commissioned another artist to make the thumbnail so obviously it looks different from the video.... but then I realized what that sounds like: clickbait.

I thought what I did was fine because other youtubers do it, but usually those youtubers are gamers or singers. I'm an animator, so my case might be less excusable. For reference, here's the thumbnail compared to the animation.

I think, perhaps one of the funniest things to come from EPIC popularising the Odyssey is that now a ton of people think Poseidon wanted to kill Odysseus.

In the Odyssey, Poseidon has no intention of killing Odysseus. In fact, part of the whole reason Zeus lets Poseidon do whatever he wants even though he thinks Odysseus is rad and should get to kiss his wife is explicitly because Poseidon had no intentions of killing Odysseus. Poseidon wanted to pay back the suffering/inconvenience blinding Polyphemus would have caused. It's a really abstract thing tbh. How do you pay back someone permanently disabling your son? Poseidon's solution was just to amputate Odysseus from his other half; i.e. Penelope. The end game was never murder, it was always an endurance race.

Also, for those wondering if there's any sort of in text reason for why Poseidon wasn't around in God Games - at the time in the Odyssey when Athena petitions Zeus to let Odysseus leave Calypso's island, Poseidon was -checks notes- on vacation in Ethiopia. Yep. He left to Ethiopia for a festival and thusly was very much absent for Athena's whole "please let Ody go? Please? 🥺" request.

At my massage yesterday I gave the lady explicit permission to fuck me right the hell up. Muscle tightness has been leading to some tinglies going down my left arm a situation that terrified her when I described it until I reassured her my partner is a doctor and it’s purely muscular and not a sign of heart attack.

She went to town. It was not a pleasure but rather an overwhelming wash of sensation.

Also randomly back to the top, I once did concoct a scenario where a plague hits the Dark Cacao Kingdom funny enough. Though it specifically only hit the Citadel as it was the result of all the Licorice monsters that had come into the Citadel during Episodes 13-14. I just bring it up because now it’s actually happening

‘the children yearn for the mines’ is a little too real to me bc when i was a kid and my older siblings were trying to get me into pokémon i really never cared to try playing. BUT. i was obsessed with the underground mining minigame in dppt. i used to beg my sister to let me take a turn playing and set it up for me bc i didn’t know how to so i could go mine for gems nonstop until i cleared that entire cave section of glittering wall spots which always made me so sad bc i was having such a great time. i didn’t even understand the significance of what i was doing but 7 year old me was high off of it

i think some of the trouble i’m having with figuring magpie out is that i initially planned them to live in a world where elves are oppressed and the crows are an organization that trains children to kill so rigorously that many die before becoming proper assassins and until ~10 years ago the majority of mages lived locked in towers because the general population found them too frightening to live freely and bioware kind of smoothed out many of these edges in veilguard and now i don’t have like. any of those hooks i expected to have to anchor magpie as a Person In The World. i mean granted the mage thing was always going to be less of a big deal bc ik the culture around mages in antiva was different even when the circles Did exist but the other stuff i like… idk i guess i didn’t Expect the whole elven oppression thing to be so smoothed over and sanitized. but it’s barely mentioned?? bellara straight up was like “will people dislike elves after this?” as if they don’t already? the shadow dragons are fighting slavery in tevinter, a thing that has historically happened Mostly To Elves, and yet that’s never mentioned directly. as an elf rook i never get to have an opinion on being an elf in minrathous. i don’t Get to tell bellara that they already hate us. i recognize it was prob wishful thinking but i had hoped we could play a smidge more with the dynamic of being a city elf contending not only with the fact that the elven gods you’ve never worshipped are real but also that they’re Evil. instead every other character talks to magpie as if these are her gods too and they’re not!! they never were! but there’s never really an option to outright say that! the only chance i’ve had so far to say they’re not my gods was worded as if i rejected them for being tyrants with no option to acknowledge that i’ve NEVER worshipped them?? as if city elves no longer exist to bioware when like. to Me that was the most interesting part of elves!

and obvs i figured the crows would be humanized a little more but it really does feel like everyone there has Chosen to be an assassin and could leave if they wanted. the fledgling jacobus is treated with like. kid gloves by both heir And the two talons present which is not exactly consistent with Training So Grueling It Kills Children? this is a much less big deal for many reasons (including that there is definitely a certain Lens the crows are allowing you to see them through as an outsider (and/or because you have outsiders with you for a crow rook) that may easily conceal many of the realities of the org. and also bc it’s just not a big deal) but it is still kind of baffling to come up against when i came into the game as zevranlover69
