Also, I recently realized that I'm a magpie kin instead of a crow kin. This is because I was under the impression of the common myth of Crows being interested in shiny objects, which recently discovered isn't true. However, that doesn't mean I'm dropping the crow bond, instead it's an emotional link for me I'm still connected to crows in an alterhuman context after all.

Back Into the Fray

Hello! I'm Thorn Ironwood, but some folks might know me as RowanWolf. I've recently moved away from that name, but it was what I was called in the alterhuman community there for a while.

EDIT: On the subject of the blog name, we're now going by Thorn and have opted to change our URL from "talonironwood" (our old collective name) to "ironwoodwolves," in a shift back towards our original presence in the alterhuman community. Roughly half the sysmates are some sort of canid, so it does feel appropriate.

Rowan the Alterhuman

Hello there fellow creatures! I know I already have an intro post technically. However, I didn't really get into things all that much in that post. So this is intended to just kind of give a little more information about who I am as an alterhuman.

I'm in my 30s and I first started identifying as a therian in 2007, although I've been one all my life. I just didn't always have a term for it. I'm a Canadian timber wolf and African golden wolf therian. I began identifying as otherkin in 2010. This was back before the umbrella term "alterhuman" existed and the two communities were fairly separate. I'm coastal gryphonkin. I'm also otherkith, a term I began using in 2022. I'm crowkith, ravenkith, and red-tailed hawk-kith.

I'm the host of the Ironwood Collective. We're a quiogenic plural system, meaning we don't care about our origins. I've known about the system for about two years now. That's been quite the adjustment. I'm far from the only person in our system to identify as alterhuman or nonhuman. I will almost definitely be the only one posting on this blog, though. There's only one other of us with my love for academia, and he doesn't front much.

I think that's sufficient for this post. I just wanted to give a little information about how I fall under the alterhuman umbrella.

The Twa Corbies

I'm going to go ahead and start us off with a ballad about my kithtypes. I'm crowkith and ravenkith and the term corbies can refer to either. This is a Scottish ballad dating back to at least the 1700s

The lyrics are a bit difficult if you're not used to balladry or Scots. Below I have a line by line of those lyrics in American English.

Hello there! I'm Rowan. I'm in my 30s, genderqueer, and use xe/xir pronouns. I'm a Canadian timber wolf and African golden wolf therian, coastal gryphonkin, and kiko kawa kitsunekin. I'm also crowkith, ravenkith, and red-tailed hawk-kith. I've been in and around the therian/otherkin community off and on since 2007. I am a suntherian, so I'm always some level of shifted in some way, but it does fluctuate as far as species and degree. My otherkinity comes from past lives, and I do also have at least one human past life that I know of. I've known since I was a child that I was a wolf, but never heard the term "therianthropy" until undergrad. I awakened as a gryphon in 2010 and as a kitsune in 2022. Pinning down awakenings for my wolves is harder, as I spent a long time not understanding why I had so many wildly contradictory sense-memories. It wasn't until 2022 that I realized there were two and was able to figure out species.
