Hi, I love your art so much. I wanted to ask, how did you get so good at drawing anatomy & posing? Are there any resources that you use for referencing, have you studied anatomy? Any tips on that? Thank you ;_;. Also wanted to express my appreciation: I really admire how kind you are, especially with how generously you share detailed art tips and advice.

hi! first of all thank you so much ❤️ it's funny that you say that because i think anatomy and posing are two of my biggest weaknesses/things i really need to improve on! i am very reliant on using posing dolls like the clip studio paint models and magicposer.

i try to do a bit of studying every day to break myself out of this reliance and build my visual references. croquiscafe used to be a go-to suggestion for figure drawing practice. i can't recommend them anymore but you can still find their resources online, and there's also the Art Models series of books. in addition to more static figure drawing poses i try to study more dynamic poses (photos of figure skaters and volleyball players are personal favorites) and ones from odd angles (jookpubstock has a lot!)

i don't know how helpful my advice will be, though, considering how tremendously much i have to learn! i will say, i think finding ways to improve your art that are fun for you personally are important- i often see more intense books like anatomy for sculptors recommended and i find that it's so hard for me (out of pure lack of spine) to focus on more academic approaches that it ends up as wasted time

where do you find ur references? i usually cant find anything similar to what i have in mind so i have to mess around with anatomy for ages

Well most of my spn refs I've found on tumblr or homeofthenutty. If I'm looking for pose references I honestly find most of those on tumblr or pinterest. Whether they cross my dash or I have to search things like "mlm couple" "man in crop top" "back muscles" or whatever I need. I usually start there cuz there's less chance of getting stock photos. Pinterest comes in handy because of the "related photos" feature too. However, sometimes needs must and google has to deal with my "shot from above man walking" searches.

Anyways, I'm sure you do the same and trust me I understand the struggle of finding a reference for what you have in mind! Oh the hours I've spent. Sometimes I will search through unsplash.com, but usually when I need inspiration to strike as the results are very general. Croquiscafe is great and has a ton of model references, but it's $36 for a yearly subscription. There's also this collection if reference photos I saw in this tumblr post recently that looks super promising!

If you're okay with more abstract forms theres sites like posemy.art and justsketch.me that have 3D models in hundreds of poses or you can manipulate them yourself. I've also used posemaniacs.com which shows the human anatomy/muscular.

Figuary day 28, the last day! 2/3/5 min poses. The first drawing was with a general 9xxb pencil. I liked it much better than the catbothellos I've been using. I think it allows me to be more accurate with details along with being able to do shading.
