sorry but the implications of imogen’s reaction to yu now that imodna has kissed are fucking crazy like. imogen taking like a giant ass pause and then responding “no” with a questioning lilt in her voice to yu asking if her and laudna were a thing PLEASE WALK WITH ME.

like no. her and laudna were not a thing. she never thought about it that way before. they were just laudna and imogen, together against the world. but now that someone has said it out loud to her, now that there is someone that imogen views as almost a threat to her and laudna’s relationship, now that someone has confronted her with the possibility that her and laudna could be “romantically entangled,” she realizes it - it’s all she wants. she’s IN LOVE with laudna. 

but she doesn’t know what to do because they’re fighting and then laudna says that she hasn’t accessed that part of her brain in forever, so imogen thinks that there’s no way that laudna feels the same way that imogen has so earth-shatteringly discovered about her. 

and then laudna DIES. and then she comes back but it’s never the right time and imogen doesn’t want to push her or ruin the incredible thing they already have. and then they’re separated and everyone else around her is falling in love and having a threesome (lol), and imogen’s alone. laudna’s not with her. again. so of course, when she sees her again, it’s the final push she needs - she can’t waste any more time. so she goes for it, and laudna kisses her back.

My main take away from Downfall is that the gods are at once similar to and alien from the mortals they created.

The gods are infinite beings older than time and space; whose current divine forms are themselves a limitation placed on their true limitless forms.

But they are also personal gods. The gods of Exandria are not Plato’s Demiurge or Aristotle’s Unmoved first Mover. The gods of Exandria are people: they laugh, they dance, they cry, they love, they have fears, they have anxieties, hopes and dreams. The gods of Exandria are people. For better and for worse.

And while people have as Ludinus understood the gods as a class of being and interpret their actions through that lenses. And I think it would be fairer to the gods as persons to interpret their actions through the lenses of a dysfunctional family of people who hate and love each other in equal measure.

The Gods did not destroy Aeor because the city threatened their power; they destroyed Aeor because the city threatened the lives of their family. They destroyed Aeor because when given the choice between saving a stranger and saving one of their siblings they made the choice most people would make…
