Hi! It’s Terry and I’m new to the Star Wars fandom, I’m very enthusiastic about Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, he just deserved better and should have got help! Nevertheless, here’s an sketch about him to indulge your eyes with some of the medical headcanons I have for him, like his hearing got diminished by the fire and he needs hearing aids and that he breathes thanks to a tracheostomy. Reader would call it his cute choker when being silly around him! I just think there’s a lack of Vader appreciation and I need to fill a that void since I love him so much, ok byeee~

I was curious if I could get a ship! I work as a nurse (I really love helping people when they are at their most vulnerable) and am 5’5” have brown eyes, auburn hair and pale skin (I cannot tan at all, I just burn 🤣). I love reading especially Jane Austen. I love Star Wars and I love going to live music shows! I’m most excited to see Hozier this fall! To start off, the most attractive thing he’s ever said is if he wasn’t in the music industry, he’d want to work in healthcare…. As a nurse I find that extremely attractive as I’m sure you do as well 😂 I feel like Jake has such an unwavering love of people and distinguished care for others well being. Your physical description reminds me of a character from the Victorian era, and to which Jake would constantly reference when complimenting you. How timeless and pure you are. Whether you believe so or not, Jake would always be around to offer his praises.

Over and over again I’ll sing how much of a bookworm Jake is! I can envision Jake retreating to a dim-lit, moody library hidden in the depths of his gorgeous home. Between the two of you, the room would be packed from floor to ceiling with literature. He’d spend hours obsessing over everything from history to lore to autobiographies. Time would often get away from him, and he’d emerge hours later…. Feeling stimulated and refreshed to flip the crisp pages through his fingers. Psssst!!!! Don’t even think about Jake finally breaking down and getting glasses for reading…. 🤭 I’ll torture you and include a visual at the end!!!

All the boys are such nerds, so there is no doubt in my mind Jake would love to sit down and binge Star Wars when he comes home. I can see you setting up a whole experience to make it something Jake thinks about for months afterwards. You’d lower the lights but program the mood lighting to toggle between blue and red. You’d make a nest of pillows and blankets on the couch… don’t forget your Yoda, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader plushies. You’d lay a whole spread of snacks out on the coffee table, Star Wars themed of course! You might even throw your hair in braided buns for him 😉

Compared to Sam and Danny, Jake’s lack of affection toward puppies makes me think he might be a cat guy. He’d obsess over Gibson! Obviously! It would melt your heart to come home to Jake kicking back, strumming his beloved Gibson while Gibson is stretched out at his side! Wouldn’t take long for them to become best buds, and not gunna lie you might be a little jealous of their bond!!!

If Jake were a season, he’d easily either be fall or winter. His whole persona and attitude is so mystic and sometimes cold. Looking back on all the high school photos of him, Jake seems to enjoy winter especially. I’m sure he would love to go on a little winter get away and go skiing, snowboarding or even take you to Frankenmuth for the whole holiday experience!

To round out this ship, all the boys are so dedicated to their friends and family. They would do anything to make them feel special and cherish their relationships. I think Jake, most of all, has a huge soft spot for people close to him. Just judging that on all the matching bracelets and necklaces he shares with his loved ones. I live for all the old photos of him and josh being front row at Kelly’s gigs. Settling down with you and creating a little family, I think he would be more apt to going home to visit mom and dad and his grandparents. Through him you would gain some very special people in your life too.

Rex and his old friend Anakin

Typically the forest moon of Endor is a peaceful place in the evening. The air calm, the trees standing motionless. The little creature-like inhabitants, Ewoks, are usually in bed or sitting by the fire. Sometimes, if they have cause to celebrate, oh and they love to celebrate, they’ll hold parties in their tree villages. They’ll dance and sing, and tell stories through the night. The fiery torches shine as the only light in the forest. 

Today marks a day to remember, and more importantly, a day to celebrate. Thanks to the Rebellion, the white armor-clad invaders to the Ewoks’ homeworld have finally been driven out. The newfound allies to the Ewoks also have cause to celebrate, and they brought fireworks. The festivities that are taking place this night will be told in Ewok stories for generations to come. Drums are banging louder than ever before, with stormtrooper helmets to back them up. The short little fuzzy people that are the Ewoks are dancing relentlessly, and are encouraging their Rebel friends to join them. Ewoks and soldiers alike are swapping war stories. Some have been fighting The Empire since the beginning, while others had only just joined the fight. 

Commander Rex is quietly leaning against a railing on the sidelines of the party, completely alone. Could this be the end of the war? Rex quietly thinks to himself. He’s been fighting his whole life. He was created for war. The thought of finally having a chance to live out the rest of his life without a galactic conflict, was definitely an unsettling thought for him. Yet it remained the very reason he fought; to bring peace to the galaxy. Is my job over? Do what’s left of my brothers get to finally live in peace now?

“Captain Rex,” a strong and familiar, yet nearly forgotten voice says from behind.

Rex turns around to see none other than Jedi General Anakin Skywalker standing before him. Though in his current form he’s glistening through a faint blue light, as if not actually there. Otherwise he looks exactly as how Rex remembers him. Stammering in surprise and disbelief, Rex is able to get out a meek “General Skywalker?”

“Hello, Rex. My son saved me, he guided me back to the light. Though I am now one with the Force and don’t have long to speak with you.”

“I can’t believe it, sir,” Rex responds. “I thought you died in Order 66.”

“Rex, something far worse than death happened to me. I was Darth Vader.” Anakin in his ghostly body, stands with his arms crossed in the classic Jedi fashion. 

Rex begins to fumble some words before Anakin interrupts him. “I know you have a lot of questions, and I’m sorry that I can’t answer them. Captain Rex, I commend you for never turning your back on Ahsoka and for helping my son and the Rebellion defeat The Empire. You are a good soldier, and an even better man.”

“Tha-Thank you, sir. But I don’t und-”

“No Rex, thank you. This is the last time you’ll see me, and I must leave now,” Anakin says with a slight look of sorrow on his face. 

“Yes General, I understand,” Rex says while standing to attention and giving a crisp salute. “And it’s Commander now, sir.”

“Commander Rex,” Anakin repeats, giving his big well known smile, as he fades away into nothingness.

Rex has heard of Jedi being able to project themselves through the Force, but what just happened seemed utterly unbelievable. General Skywalker was Darth Vader? 

I hope you enjoyed my little made up scene of Anakin talking to Rex on Endor after the Rebellion’s victory. I just always thought it was kinda sad how things were left off between them, and wanted to imagine what a reunion might be like.

Hello! Oooh goodie goodie. Currently doing the little happy shimmy that cats do.

1. do you find force users or non-force users more interesting?

It really just depends. They’re are so many stories to tell about the GFFA and I’ve found Force users and those who don’t to be equally riveting. For example, Death Troopers contains no Force users as far as I can tell (unless you think Han Solo is force sensitive 👀) and the stories are compelling and touching. Whereas stories focused on Jedi or Sith are also just incredible if written well. Not to mention Cassian Andor, Boba Fett, Din Djarin, Breha Organa, Jyn Erso, they’re all some of the most powerful and interesting characters. So yeah, I think it depends on writing.

7. who do you hope you never meet?

Oh brother. It would have to be either Darth Vader or Darth Sidious. Vader I would probably get myself killed for just “WHAT THE CRAP ARE YOU DOING DO YOU THINK PADME COULD WHAT YOUVE BECOME?!” and then Sidious, I’d just hurl myself bodily at that old husk of a man and get myself fried to a blackened crisp.

11. who is the most underrated character?

Owen Lars. Because from what we saw of that man in the Kenobi show he was legitimately doing the best for Luke that ANYBODY was. Giving him a normal life. Devoid of the thing that consumed and destroyed Anakin. And he probably did it knowing it was futile. Like will connect with that part of himself eventually but Owen gives it his all. Gotta respect the dad that stepped up, Y’know?

Regarding the dark lord's lightsaber skill, in the legends continuity.

Darth vader is not just one of the strongest beings in galactic history, but also one of, if not the most skilled lightsaber combatant.

Darth vader, even Prior to receiving any sith training, was already considered to be the most skilled sith in history.

"You have done well, my new apprentice. Your skills are unmatched by any sith before you."

With that statement, made by sidious himself, vader would be more skilled than maul and dooku. Maul is someone with unparalleled skill.

Dooku, as a jedi, was already a Match for windu in lightsaber combat.

With that statement, vader is a better lightsaber duelist than old Ben. Old Ben was stated to have not lost any of his skill, while in isolation.

With all of this, it's easy to see that Darth Vader is in his own realm of mastery over lightsaber combat, even when compared to kenobi, maul or dooku.

One or Several Amidalas

While visiting my family for the holidays I decided to take another crack at E.K. Johnston’s young adult Padme novels. I’d briefly dipped into the third book a little while ago, curious about the trans clone trooper, with the vague intention of reading the first two at some indeterminate point in the future. Well, this was the week, and I knocked out Queen’s Shadow and Queen’s Peril in short order.

These were quick reads-- they have the cushy line-spacing of a lot of YA and are not terribly long to begin with, and have a nice brisk pace. What struck me the most how comfortable they were with being a bit uneventful. I loved this. Even Queen’s Peril, which takes place in the stray interstices of The Phantom Menace and is, ostensibly, a thrilling story of wartime resistance and espionage, seems most at home when puzzling over issues of quotidian personal exigency-- the fit of a gown, the dull pain of a tightly pulled-back braid, the myriad questions of decorum and interpersonal empathy that crop up between Padme and her responsibilities and the young women imbricated in that labor.

This gives the frankly somewhat deranged customs of Naboo as seen in the movies-- elected child monarchs! with body doubles! who all have names riffing on their ruler!-- a sense of ingrained habit and custom, which modern women like Padme and Sabe and the rest can rankle at or push back against while still being part of the rhythms of those customs. Much like Charles Soule’s and Claudia Gray’s wonderful work with Leia, this all makes a character left somewhat thin in the movies (Padme much moreso than Leia, to be fair) pop as a complicated and conflicted person hurled into a rapidly escalating and chaotic situation.

A few things I like:

-Panaka is a huge weirdo, and somewhat ominous-- Johnston seems to be working backwards from the reveal that he eventually became moff of the sector. 

-Padme comes off as shrewd and intelligent but a little too eager to see the best in people. There’s a fascinating runner in Queen’s Shadow where almost every time she interacts with Palpatine she gets the clear sense that he’s lying, but she keeps rationalizing benign reasons why that might be the case.

-Sabe is fantastic, and Johnston sells the peculiar psychosexual dynamic between her and Padme with a beautiful candor and prickliness. There are moments of real discomfort and poetry surrounding Sabe’s desire to be, you know, a sexual human being, and her sense of obligation to Padme, which often takes on a heavily eroticized sense of awe and fealty. Padme herself comes off as repressed, eager to deny herself a love life, but still kind of inchoately jealous of Sabe’s freedom to flirt and mingle and fuck Richard Armitage. It makes her eventual romance with Anakin feel a bit more plausible-- they’re both deeply repressed people, unable to grapple openly with their sexuality (albeit in different ways), and so when they come together there are lines of communication that just aren’t available to them. Two profoundly weird kids locked in a depressing and tragic mess of a marriage. C’est la (star) guerre I guess!

-Sabe-- bi queen, love her, and this makes Pak’s strong work with her in Darth Vader even more compelling. The rest of the handmaidens are a bit sketchily drawn in Queen’s Shadow, but Peril does a nice job of delineating each of them more clearly. Sache in particular is another stand-out, and Rabe the little rat-fink criminal.

-For all of the verisimilitude and crunchy textural stuff Johnston gives to Naboo and life in the Coruscant political milieu, the nitty gritty of the Trade Federation still feels floaty to me. Palpatine’s stakes in the scheme and his pirouetting from position to position is super lucid and crisp in these books-- Johnston does a splendid job with an elusive character-- but the Neimodians themselves still feel a little rote. I think a lot of writers struggle with this-- it’s not like the movies give a ton to work with. 

-Every time Johnston dropped a nugget about the gungans I had to go double check it because it felt so wild. For what it’s worth she gives Jar Jar a peculiar sense of quiet dignity, and a weirdly pointed emphasis on his aesthetic sensibilities. I’m more than happy with this! It’s high time the dude caught a break and got his moment of sober poise. 

Anyway! My wife went whole hog this Christmas since we’ve both been having fun talkin’ Star Wars together, along with our sister-in-law and her best friend’s husband, and so I have on my docket: the first two books of Phase II of the High Republic, the High Republic short story collection, Dooku: Jedi Lost, and the little omnibus of novels about Hera & Kanan and Tarkin. She also had on the audiobook of Thrawn on the drive down to my mom’s house, but frankly I spent much of that trip napping and could not tell you much about the travails of Thrawn and his twink.
