Me: *mad*
GotchardCast: Why is he mad?
Me: THAT'S NOT HOW ALCHEMY WORKS!!!
Minato-sensei: *wipes the spit/saliva off his face*
Me: To create something from nothing... only I can do that as well as bring back the dead if I wanted to! No mere mortal should use alchemy in such heretical ways! *goes on a long tangent about alchemy, it's rules and taboos*
Renge: Sabimaru... lets go analyze this angry God's saliva...
Sabimaru: *nods*
Isaac (the AI Sabimaru created): This is a big score. His idiocy will come in handy, and he needs to stop staring at Sabimaru.
Me: Only i with the breath/flame or whatever you want to call it. I alone (and like every creator god) have power beyond one's comprehension. *heavy sighs*
Houtaro, Rinne, and Minato: Are you done ranting?
Me: Yes.
Houtaro: Also... can you like stop trying to hook up with my best friend or Sabimaru?
Me: *breathes*
Rinne: And stop with the baby making! His best friend Ryo would die of fangasm once he truly sees your true form.
Me: Good thing... I'm letting Houtaro go just to please Emu and Shinnosuke because you're not type.
Houtaro: Soo... Gonna stay here in the academy?
Rinne: *muttering* Probably trying to "rizz up" Sabimaru or Kajiki Ryo.
Me: Only from time to time. Though not for long and probably stroll around in my disguise.
Rinne and Houtaro: Uhhh huh... *muttering to each other* He's trying to rizz up them both...
*waves at Ankh, creature created from literal metal coins thousands of years ago*
Like I said... this isn't the first time KR did this... Don't get your sexy panties all twisted up in a knot about it.
Also... please don't hit on the children. Even if the actors were adults the other alchemy students are the same age as Houtaro and Rinne... ffs

Cas was always supposed to just be a cameo in Dean's heaven along with heapless of other ppl. So meeting him wouldn't be too GASP GAY!!! I don't think they would've changed anything else narratively. In the end, I don't even think it was homophobia. It's just that Dabb always listened to Superwiki, winbros and fangasm and wanted to give them their incest ending. And he delivered. Compared to this, episode 18 should've given us much more. At this point, wincest is more canon than Destiel.
I wasn’t going to answer this, but then your last sentence irritated me.
Destiel is Canon.
Canon means that it is a part of some piece of media that is confirmed to be true or part of the "official" continuity, either through being explicitly shown or confirmed by the creator.
By this definition, Wincest is Fanon.
Those who ship Wincest can have it. Anyone who follows me knows I’m ship and let ship. But it’s still Fanon.
That being said. Yes, I’m pissed at Dabb. I’m pissed at Singer. I’m pissed that TPTB killed their gays because they wanted the Heterosexual White Pickett Fence ending with Sam.
But I will always love Bobo, I will always love Yockey, I will always love Robbie, I will always love Davy.
I will always love Jensen Ross Ackles. I will always love Dmitri Tippens Krushnic. I will always love Jared Tristan Padalecki.
Supernatural will always be the show that saved me. Even if I’m unhappy with it’s ending.

J2 VegasCon 2019 Main Panel
*Reminder: Full answers/more context in vids and gifs <3
J2 jump onstage as fans wave pink hearts from the crowd <3
Jensen: Whenever we come out and do one of those jumps, I always wonder if today’s the day one of us blows a hip.
Jensen’s microphone keeps making a high pitched sound lol.
They ask how many first-timers are there. Jensen: Okay, well, I’d like to remind you we’ve been on this show for fourteen years, doing these for thirteen and a half. Where were you???
Jared: We are five days into our final hiatus. Jensen: Five days into our hiatus beard!
Jensen won’t shave for a few months.
J2 whispering and Jensen cracking up :P
Jensen reveals that Jared is wearing a party patch (they help with hangovers). Jared puts his leg on Jensen’s lap and rolls up his pant leg to show the patch lol.
J2 gave the crew party patches at the s14 wrap party.
Fan asks if they believe in the supernatural in real-life. Jensen doesn’t not believe in ghosts. First to think there’s a logical explanation. But he’s certainly open to the availability that that 1% could be supernatural. Even though he’s never experienced it in real life.
Jensen explains the difference between unnatural and supernatural. Unnatural = Jared. Supernatural = us
Norton fixes Jared’s rolled up pants which turns a little dirty, naturally :P
Fan: Which supporting actors have gone on that have had great careers that you’re still close with? The guest star Jared connects with the most is the girl who played Ruby in season 4 ;) Jensen says they knew Sterling K. Brown was a star when he was on spn, that the Force was strong with him. It’s no surprise he’s had the success that he’s had. Also: Well we’re close to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, even though he hasn’t really done much since spn. He’s still cool.
J2 ran into Felicia Day yesterday and talked about her daughter aww
Jared watched “Wendigo” recently, named a couple of guest stars (assuming Alden Ehrenreich was one of them ;))
A fan apparently rushed the stage, emotional/screaming and upset about wanting an autograph. Some fans tweeted that she has autism. Fans tweeted that J2, Clif, and Creation handled the situation well. At one point J2 left the stage to help defuse the situation. When they came back out after Jared shouted out: “Our member of the family is having a hard time. We all have had hard times.” He wants us all to be kind. The boys are completely fine. (Some details)
Fan: So after the show, will you continue to shave? Boys: Up here not down there... lol
Jensen: We were talking about Jared’s Viking braids.
Jensen teased about Jared shaving his head like Borja did yesterday for charity. They said they’d have Misha do it lol.
Answering sincerely, they acknowledge their look will change a bit, to have their own identities. Jensen: “Dean is the best imaginary friend I’ve ever had in my life. He’ll be a part of me for the rest of my life. But I don’t have to look like him for the rest of my life.”
Also: “It all depends on what our wives want us to look like.” lol
Jared wants to go bowlegged. Asks Jensen how it is, to which he replies “airy.”
Jensen hopes their relationships with cast and crew will last a lifetime and that is what, quote, “fuels us up.”
J2 are signed to do cons past s15 and won’t end for a while :)
What is Jared most looking forward to after the show? Getting to know our kids, our wives, and ourselves. Also not shaving!
Jared: I’m excited to be a dad. Spend more time with the kiddos. Is also excited for the boring.
Jensen’s never known his wife and kids without the show. It’s been a constant. It’s going to be interesting to see where life goes. He’s excited for the opportunity to spend more time with his kids, wife, and friends. To not get on an airplane.
Jensen: I'm looking forward to but have been happy to have professional opportunities go by these past 14 years in order to tell this story.
Has anything impacted you (professionally) like SPN has impacted us? Jared says he isn’t sure. Even when “off” we can’t remove our “wigs” like Borja (lol) We’re still working! Always!
Jensen said he and Misha will need vocal therapy after the show to get their voices back to normal. Jensen: I tried to emulate JDM as Dean’s father by speaking with this gravelly voice. I didn’t know I’d been doing this for 15 seasons. I’m a lot older than he was when he played my dad. Jared: Yeah, no kidding!!
Fan: How do demons deposit sulfur? Jensen: *runs around the stage, making farting noises*
What’s on their bucket lists? And the weirdest thing on there? The fan has an accent that J2 both attempt. Jared says (about the accent): “It’s beautiful and I’m jealous of people who speak better than me, which is everyone.”
We have learned Jared doesn’t have a bucket list. Then he says he would love to go on a helicopter ride. He’s never done it before and it’s the small things. Jensen is unimpressed.
Jared: “What I meant to say was...have a...pet...koala...bear...” Jensen: JUST STOP.
Jensen says, “I want to watch my children grow up.”
Jared says he can watch his children grow up from the helicopter. Jensen quips, “That’s called helicopter parenting.”
Jared shakes the fan’s hand and asks where her accent is from, repeating that it’s beautiful. She says, “Yorkshire.” He goes, “no YOU’RE sure.” LOL
The dad jokes are strong today.
For the final season, this is the first year J2 have said to the writers and producers that they would like to be part of the creative process in the direction and the story of s15. J2 have been invited to the storyboarding with the creators in LA for the final season and definitely want to give their input. They don’t know if they’ll listen, and J2 are prepared for that, but nobody’s lived with Sam and Dean longer than they have. They would love to give input that the show and characters deserve. <3
Jensen: “No one knows these characters more than Jared and I.”
Jared: As a fan of the show, I'd like to offer my input.
Jensen says they watch the episodes in order to give themselves critical feedback. They don’t read comments on social media re: feedback.
It’s hard for them to watch themselves as just an audience. Including other TV shows like GOT and This Is Us.
J2 both loved “Death's Door” then realized we weren't in it much. Jensen: Are we weighing it down? Jared: We're critical of ourselves
Fan: Jensen, you were amazing last night [at the concert]. Jared: Oh, if you think he was amazing last night... :P
Fan asks if Jensen really played piano on Dark Angel and any memories from the show? It was a little of both Jensen and a pro (close-ups are not him playing). It was a VERY difficult song to learn how to play, Chopin he thinks. He has to think hard to dig up funny stories.
When Jessica Alba gets in the boxing ring (with him) she lined up the punch and hit him RIGHT in the nose. (One of the MANY reasons it’s “so jacked up”) He was too young to say “cut! That hurt!” Realizes he doesn’t do that now, either lol.
Another episode he gets slapped, but the actress wasn’t getting the timing for the fake slap right. She was petite so he assumed it wouldn’t be too bad... But he had a WELT on his face. Whole crew went “oof.”
“Scoobynatural” question for the final scene, how many takes? A small crowd had gathered outside across the street. They’re 20 yards away and can’t hear the regular dialogue. But Jensen knew they would get that last line, and he was embarrassed to say the line because those people wouldn’t know the context.
Jared: They’re so old they’re animating themselves to be on camera! lol
A fan said she lost her favorite beanie in the Bellagio fountain and was asking on recommendations to get a new one.
Jared gave his beanie to the fan aww. Then Jensen told Jared that he lost his favorite watch, and Jared immediately took off his watch and gave it to Jensen. Jensen cuddles Jared. Jared then tells Jensen he lost his favorite pair of underwear LOL
Last question: Fan wants to know where Jensen and Jared went during the “French Mistake” episode. Jensen says they were at a con. Jared says VegasCon! Or maybe it was Balthazar. But Jensen prefers to think they just didn’t show up for work because “they’re asshole actors.”
Hugs, standing ovation for the boys, J2 give each other and the fans some love before taking off :) (photo credit: x)

Favorite video games of all time?
Get ready for a LONG post, folks! However…allow me to break this down to my three favorite video game genres: Fighting games, RPGs/JRPGs, and Platformers/Action Platformers (both 2D and 3D). However! Since I feel like these posts are gonna take MUCH longer than I thought it would, I’m just gonna divide the genres into separate posts. But for now, let’s stick with the…
FIGHTING GAMES!:
Dragon Ball FighterZ: My number one favorite (traditional) fighting game of all time. My favorite ArcSys game of all time. My favorite Dragon Ball game of all time. This game is the reason how I got into the Dragon Ball franchise back when I’ve had to little to NO interest in the franchise, even when I’ve watched the ENTIRE Namek saga from the original anime back in 2009. The game’s GORGEOUS art style, every character animation’s (such as specials, supers, intros, victory poses, and ESPECIALLY the Dramatic Finishes) faithfulness to the original manga AND anime of Dragon Ball Z and other DB properties (such as GT and Super), the AWESOME soundtrack (courtesy of ArcSys theirselves, who’re known for awesome music in their games), the 3v3 gameplay, the character roster (though I’ll admit that having five Gokus and Three Vegetas is rather silly), having a new character design by DB creator Akira Toriyama himself, and lastly, being a breath of fresh air to those new to the fighting game genre (since the genre itself is notorious for its high learning curves) AND to Dragon Ball fans who were sick and tired of having the story of DBZ recapped over and over and over AND OVER AGAIN is a fucking sight to behold. This game FUCKING RULES (and a million times better than MvC:I). However, I wouldn’t call it perfect. I’ll admit that the Story Mode is rather lackluster, Arcade Mode is rather lacking, the Shop is completely randomized, and the Online Mode, much like every other fighting game, suffers from lag, spammable players, or just outright ragequitters. That, and the fact that, unlike MvC3 and BB:CTB, every character assist only sticks to ONE attack (meaning that more than one character is gonna have a Kamehameha assist), and that MOST PLAYERS you’re gonna run into is gonna main the likes of Cell (who ENJOYS dragging out combos for as long as possible), Adult Gohan (like Cell, also drags out long combos), and Vegeta (Super Saiyan, because of his assist. Need I say more?). But aside from those flaws, it is hands down the BEST fighting game I’ve ever played, next to…well, below.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: My number one favorite (unique) fighting game of all time. My favorite Nintendo game of all time. Series creator Masahiro Sakurai is a man that I’d like to describe as…well, not only doing the impossible and HIGHLY respected, but also putting those filthy naysayers about certain characters in their place. The fact that the whole point of Smash Ultimate was to include EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER FROM SMASH 64 TO SMASH 4 (Wii U and 3DS), INCLUDING EVERY THIRD-PARTY CHARACTERS DESPITE THE LICENSING AND DEVELOPMENT ISSUES THIS WOULD CAUSE is another sight to behold. FUCK Melee, THIS is hands-down the best Smash game of all time! The inclusion of Spirits, the Adventure Mode, the Boss battles, the gameplay, the kind of chicanery you can pull, the game’s main theme “Lifelight”, the roster, the soundtrack…there’s just ALOT about this game that I just fucking adore. What can you make folks more hyped about this game? Oh, I don’t know…why not shock everybody with JOKER (from Persona 5) AND BANJO & KAZOOIE (who’s still owned by Microsoft) being in the game. What I love about Smash Bros is how Sakurai is just outright defies those say certain characters can’t appear in the series for silliest (or justifiable) reasons. Cloud can’t be in Smash because his game was never released on a Nintendo console until 2019? No problem! Ridley’s too big therefore he can’t be playable? Fuck that! Banjo & Kazooie can’t be in Smash because they’re owned by Microsoft of the Xbox brand? It’s fine! Why? “Because I AM HERE!” -Banjo (JK, but seriously, the fact that Banjo’s in was quite a surprise.) Smash 4 is the reason how I got into Final Fantasy VII, and I hold the entire Smash series in high regard for doing so. Goddamn, do I love this franchise! But! Again, it’s not perfect. The Online Mode is MUCH worse than DBFighterZ (to the point where you’re more than likely to end up in a battle with Items TURNED ON or stages with distracting hazards, OR end up fighting the SAME fucking characters I hate fighting against, such as Little Mac, Falco, Inkling, Incineroar, etc.), and that fighting against EVERY single spirit in the Adventure Mode to get 100% can get rather tiring (not to mention that you gotta get BOTH bad endings from fighting Galeem solo AND Dharkon solo), lack of additional content upon release (Stage Builder and Home-Run Content weren’t even implemented into the game at first), and lastly (although these two complaints are one of more personal matter and one towards Square Enix), the fact Zero from Mega Man X, my favorite video game character is ASSIST character instead of a playable was really heartbreaking to see (but hey, I’m not complaining TOO much since I enjoy interacting with him in my free time in Training), and lastly, the fact that Cloud, and to high extent, Final Fantasy VII AND the FF franchise as a whole has LITTLE TO NO representation in this game whatsoever (again, I feel like this was more of SE’s fault than Sakurai’s). No spirits, no “Fighter Spirit” artwork from the original FFVII, no Assist characters, not being dubbed in English AGAIN (though this was more of a contract issue with SE), no additional music on Midgar, NOTHING. But, nonetheless…this game is fucking awesome.
Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle: Ahahahahaha! Ah…Oh, Blazblue…I love this franchise oh-so much, but the fact that it hasn’t received the same treatment as Guilty Gear lately (not to mention the mainstream Blazblue games, aka the C-series, has pretty much came to an end) is a rather sad sight to see…depression aside, I love Blazblue. I REALLY do! I love the characters, I love the stages, I love the music, the story is confusing as FUCK, but it’s a fighting game franchise I’ve discovered WAY back 2012 and I still love to this day, even more so than Guilty Gear (don’t @ me). So…what to do now? Could there perhaps be another Blazblue game? A game that just so happens to be a crossover? One just as awesome as Smash Bros? Ooh! How about…PERSONA 4?!? UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH?!? A FRANCHISE THAT, LIKE DRAGON BALL AND FFVII, I’VE HAD NO INTEREST IN UP UNTIL 2018 (aka RWBY)?!? AAAAAAAAAAAAAA- Fangasm aside, the fact that this game even EXISTS is an achievement in its own right. As stated before, this game is the reason how I got into RWBY. What I really love and adore about the game are the interactions among the characters. That, and I was SO HAPPY to hear that the game would be dubbed in English, after GG:Xrd Revelator and BB: Central Fiction lacked a dub. I was not only excited to hear the likes of Ragna, Noel, and Hazama voiced in English again, but I was also happy to hear that any characters who’ve never been dubbed in English in the past (characters from UNIB, newcomers in BB:CF, etc.) would be dubbed in English as well. Hell, the fact that the characters from both Blazblue AND Persona 4 (two franchises/games I really love) being in the EXACT same game together was enough to make me be all like “Shut up, and take my money!”, considering how crazy excited I was in the past to see them interacting with one another via fanart and fanfiction (thanks to the Persona 4 Arena games being developed by ArcSys). And if you thought having only THOSE four franchises in the game was enough, you’d be wrong! Here’s Arcana Heart! Here’s Senran Kagura! Here’s a FIFTH character from RWBY: Neo Politan! This game, much like DBFZ and Smash Ultimate, is awesome. However, complaints I do have towards the game are the Online Mode (although the chibi interactions are cute and adorable and I will praise the Online Mode for that, and ONLY THAT), Gordeau from UNIB is still a problem, the rest of the half of the roster is entirely DLC, lack of additional content upon release, the control scheme is WAY too simplistic (even moreso than DBFZ), and lastly, while I love the sprites ArcSys did for RWBY, the reused sprites from Blazblue, Persona 4 Arena, and UNIB is also a complaint I have (but a minor one, mind you. They could’ve just easily redone the sprites specifically for this game, but…no). And while this game isn’t exactly in my top two favorite fighting games, it’s definitely in my top THREE. Also, I have yet to actually to play the Story Mode of this game, but I haven’t yet, therefore, I hold no opinion on the story as of currently. Marvel vs Capcom-styled traditional fighting games are hands-down, my go-to preference for traditional fighters.
Dissidia (and Dissidia 012): Final Fantasy: Forget Dissidia NT, THIS game (mostly Dissidia 012) is what an awesome 3D Action Fighting game is about! Much like how Smash Ultimate’s a unique fighting game (a Platform Fighter), this game is also a unique type of fighting game, possessing RPG elements and just having a blast with its awesome combat system. Cloud and Sephiroth were just so much fun to play as, with Terra, Squall, and WoL being my other favorite characters in this awesome game. This game is also essentially a HUGE homage to Final Fantasy as whole. From the ongoing conflicts between Cosmos and Chaos, to MULTIPLE references to the character’s original games, to additional modes that involve unlocking the likes of Gilgamesh from FFV, or fighting against the most frustrating secret final boss I’ve ever had the displeasure of fighting against (Feral Chaos), these games are awesome! Also, the reason why I’m addressing both games as a single installment here is because technically, while Dissidia 012 IS a prequel, it pretty has the same content (no, scratch that, MORE content) from the first Dissidia game and it’s pretty much an updated…well, not a “port”, per say, more like an enhanced re-release, much like Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 or any of the Blazblue EXTEND re-releases. However, complaints I have for Dissidia is that certain characters are annoying to fight against (such as Jecht, FUCK that character), the RPG system takes a while to build up until your favorite characters are FINALLY at Level 100, trying to get the rarest Equipment is rather difficult, and lastly, the action commands for certain character’s EX Bursts can be retooled for the sake of a proper fighting game, but then again, Dissidia ain’t a “traditional” fighting game. But aside from that, not only is this my favorite Action RPG/Fighting game of all time, but this is also my favorite Final Fantasy Spin-Off of all time.
Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars: What’s that? You were expecting a Marvel vs Capcom game to be on this list, let alone my top 5? Too bad! It’s Tatsunoko, baby! This one definitely holds a spot in my heart as this game stands as my number one favorite “Capcom vs Whatever” game of all time (yes, even moreso than Marvel vs Capcom itself OR any of the SNK vs Capcom games, don’t @ me). I love this game. I love its soundtrack (ESPECIALLY its main theme, “Across the Border”), I love the roster (despite being small), I love the final boss of the Arcade Mode (Yami, from Capcom’s Okami), and I love the gameplay. My complaints goes towards the lack of additional content outside of Arcade and the Gallery (although the top-down shooter minigame is rather fun), and, as stated before, small roster. But other than that, this game was really fun to play.
OTHER FAVORITE FIGHTING GAMES:
Sonic Battle, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, SvC: Chaos, and Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma.
Coming up next: My favorite RPGs/JPRGs!

I'm Fine I'm Fine I'm Fine
read it on the AO3 at http://bit.ly/2KFGgR6
by Literallyliterary
Bodhi Rook, local boy, pilots the stolen ship that he had named Rogue One away from Scarif carrying only ten rebels, his hand blown off by a grenade, skittish, shaking, scared, and so, so tired and so unready to face the Rebellion. But the Death Star is on its way, there’s an evacuation that needs leading, and his mind is on a pair of perfect blue eyes across the war room that he can’t shake off.
Yes, it’s yet another Rogue One Definitely Survives Scarif fic. Two and a half years later and I’m still in denial.
Rated M for some borderline graphic depictions of injuries and a mildly smutty romantic encounter. If this fic is too much like someone else’s fic it’s because you’re all so inspirational and our collective headcanons fuel each other’s fanaticism for this wonderful movie.

Ignis is seated at his desk when Gladio breezes in, planting his hand in the centre of it as he leans into Ignis’ space, all wolfish-grin and easy confidence. Eyes flicking from Gladio’s face down to the hand currently ruining the order of his reports, Ignis merely raises a brow before regarding Gladio coolly over the rim of his glasses in reprimand. Unfazed, Gladio grins wider. “Hey Iggy,” he says, leaning closer until they’re practically breathing the same air, “I got something for ‘ya.” [1/2]
Flour/Iridae!!!
First off, an apology. I said I’d answer yours when I’d wake up, but I wanted to reblog art first so your ask wouldn’t get thrown to the very bottom. But then I got very sick. And then I get into Halloween hype.
I offer no excuses for the late reply, and I hope you understand and can forgive me.(o´▽`o)
Second, I WOKE UP TO A PART 3!!! I was so hyped, Astrals above, I tried to give a quick check to my activity but found a part 3 and had to read it even when still all sleepy, and aaaaaaah!! It got so much better, and I liked it already!!!
Nono, Flour, Thank YOU, ohmygod astrals bless, thank YOU for sharing this little piece with me, hsjfngjfg
You, my friend, have this particular talent some of us don’t, myself probably number one of the list: to make a complete and very...complete* story in a few words. *By complete again I don’t mean as in “beginning middle end”, but rather, it’s round. It’s not just “John said bye then turned then left.” It’s “this happened like this, it felt like this, looked like this, then it turned into this other thing that felt this way and looks like this, and finished with this, which has this sensation and looks.”
It’s a fully complete (no redundance there) story, in such few words. And that, my friend, entirely points out to something very important; You’ve got skills. The tooth for this, if that’s a saying in english too.
You don’t need to make a “full” fanfic to make it work and have the same effect. What I write in 10k, others can in 500 words with the same impact on the readers. I think you’ve gotten that or something alike! This leaves me satisfied, feeling things, and with this sensation of completeess, and that points to a good writer!!
I want to applaud you so much, I feel so honored you submitted this in no other inbox than mine!! Such a ‘fully complete’ and warm and such an ADORABLE AND GOOD story, astrals in the realm, I feel so happy and honored!! Thank you so much!!
Hnfgnfgnmhg, where to begin, I LOVED IT ALL.
Gosh, I feel a bt shadowed now, ahahaha!! That’s super GOOD!
hNHNHHG, smug wolf-like grin Gladio. Y E S. Yesyesyes, ahaha, I love the mental image of Gladio just pacing around then like “Fuck it, I want to pamper my Iggy ヾ(`ヘ´)ノ゙“ at a random moment, just going in all smug smiles not even caring where he puts the hand or anything.
Gladio, Shield Charming, Amicitia. Gladio “I have a pretty darn good self-esteem” Amicitia doing it again, this flirty and romantic man.
And then Ignis reacting all coldly to him at first? Ahahaha, this is so in character, I love it!! Ignis glancing from above his glasses and raising an eyebrow at him, unimpressed of Gladio’s attempts of romance, hmgfmfgmfgmf, that’s a weakness of mine HOW DID YOU KNOW
And then Gladio entirely ignoring him and just Got a gift for you ;)”, this is so canon, hngfgnfdgfmnhghfg, I’m LOVING THIS SO MUCH
I like the way Iggy joins into the little game his own way, all sass and class and staying in his role of unimpresed when really he wants this too and knows where this is going. ♡
I really like the way you described/specified the softness and tenderness with which Gladio reaches for his face, and cups it. I really really really adore that “detail” because it’s not a detail, it’s an entire context in such few words; it talks on how despite the smug grin and the “Aha, I’m such a heartbreaker” attitude, Gladio’s really just this soft teddy bear that cares so much and loves Iggy so much, he subconsciously just treats him like that; all tender and soft
AND THEN YOU GAVE ME A PART 3 ♡♡♡♡♡♡
AND IT HAS SO MUCH CONTEXT TOO ♡♡♡♡
Gosh, this is such a jewel of a ficlet, ohmygod let me continue hhgfngnngnhfg
I adored, worshipped, LOVED the way Ignis ignored the faling papers. Because it’s an entire STACK OF THEM, not just a small post it paer or anything, an entire stack of papers falling, and not only does Ignis not care, he doesn’t even notice. That’s, agian, one of those “small” details that are not just small details; it just speaks so, so very dearly and much on how much Iggy loves Gladio back the same way, so much that one kiss shared between them has the entire absolute rest of the world disappear, and it’s only the two of them in their little bubble, their own world, just themlseves and their kisses.
Gladio showering all of Ignis’ face with kisses. Ohmygods I can’t- I need- *fans self* THIS IS SO ADORABLE, GLADIOLUS, THAT MAN IS A HOPELESS SOFT ROMANTIC AND I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND I LOVE HIM LOVING IGGY.
I adore the “detail” on Iggy holding him by the jacket “to keep him in place”. That caries so much context too, so much of it and I love it and it’s so good; it speaks a lot of how much Ignis loves him and loves that Gladio loves him, so much, he wants him to stay there. Gladio, the guy he was previously lecturing/nagging, and it’s so seet because then we understand Ignis really just pretends and even lies to himself on how much he tries to act like Gladio’s not his weakness-
-but he is
Because even though he wants to be angry for the hand on his papers and for his interruption, or etc., in the moment he’s just giving in and holding him in place.
“I don’t want you to leave”, says the pair of hands holding his jacket. “I love you. I love to be with you. I love it when we’re together. I love to kiss you, and that you kiss me. And I want to stay with you, and I want you to stay with me. Stay. Just stay”.
And Gladio just...stays :’3
When Gladio breaks apart and it’s specified it’s after a lingering kiss, such a very nice phrase, too! It makes me feel like Gladio didn’t want to pull apart, and forced himself to; that he wanted to stay there, because while it was his intention to “tease” Iggy, he really adores kissing him and now can’t get away. The devil traping himself in his own trap, hahaha.
When Iggy tugs him back in. HHNNNNNGGGG *collapses* See, the entire “Stay” speech is there, in the little and not so little things. Now Ignis is literally keeping him there so he stays.
“Allow me to return the favor”, ahHFNGFHFGN y e s
agggggggh, iRIDAE, WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO ADD HERE, IT’S ALREADY A JEWEL!
I don’t have the same skill, on making something so so so so darn pretty in such few words! Besides, you’ve got quite a vast vocabulary and a very pretty way with words, they’ve got a nice rhythm, I lack that, too. Geeze, this is so gorgeous and my “review” which is really just myself fangasming and word vomiting on you has gotten too long, but aaah, it’s just such a precious little story!! I like it so much I STILL FEEL SO HONORED!
My, you gave me a very precious look into your writing. I feel I’m staring at the very tip of the tip itself of the iceberg, and so much more hides underneath. I don’t have a very sharp eye, but it doesn’t take one to notice when somebody’s got skills, and you are one of those people.
Flour, I don’t know what else I can tell you. Thank you so much again for sharing this with me, it’s short and beautiful, and I’m loving the mental images I’m having thanks to this.
I’m loving this so much precisely because it’s “just a scene”, but it’s not “just” a scene. To capture a scene with all its essence and feelings, ohmygod, that’s such a beautiful and wonderful thing to do, and I feel so proud about that in some way, because yo did it so wonderfully and I get to read it! It’s a small scene, but it’s full and complete, and it makes you feel things, and the fact that it makes you feel things, that’s what art is supposed to do. And when it makes you feel things, that’s when the creator has done a good job.
IRIDAE
I AM MADLY CLAPPING AT YOU LIKE KERMIT THE FROG FLAILING AROUND
I don’t know if you’ve posted anything before, or if you want to do it. Just know that if you did, it’d be a very pretty gem for the treasure that forms this fandom’s pretty art. Mama says (not really, but it’s a good way to start a phrase, lmao) that when somebody does something amazing, it’s a bit sad they keep it in the dark. The world likes (and sometimes needs) pretty things, for smaller, tiny as they may be. Can’t have a shore without sand, and sand wouldn’t be the same without every single of its grains, small or big, doesn’t matter.
*dreamy sigh*
I’m still not over your way of writing along the scene itself. Both are so pretty.
You’ve got a very pretty way with words, and I feel both a little bad and super good this is currently in my inbox, only for me to see. But, I guess I kept it long enough, now it’s time to share with the world so they can see it too because it’d be a shame not to put this out in the light!! It’s SO worth it and more than that, so PRETTY!!
I don’t know if I’ve got anything to add to this, I don’t have the same pretty rhythm and way with words as you do. I use basic vocabulary, but this goes a knot up into it. I don’t think I’ve got anything to add, unless you want me to. The honor would be mine, tho it does scare me a bit; this feels so pretty, I fear I’d mess it!
I hope you enjoyed writing it as much, or at least half as much, as I did reading it. But I feel you did; one can feel the writer’s passion in their words, and when it’s not there, you notice and the words are just Eh. But this feels thought through and hugged before being delivered. Right? You liked it. I loved it.
If you ever wish to share more, my inbox is never closed, alright?
Iridae, thank you so much. Thank you, over and over. ( ´ ▽ ` ).。o♡
Have a great day, and a happy halloween!!

LA Premiere Screening of All Hail The Popcorn King,: The Joe R. Lansdale Documentay with Special Guest Performer, Kasey Lansdale
Hosted by Filmmaker Hansi Oppenheimer and Moderated by Bill Thill.
"Documentary films about authors are few and far between. That's chiefly because the act of putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard isn't anyone's idea of high drama.
Not so with New York-based documentarian and self-professed fangirl Hansi Oppenheimer's All Hail the Popcorn King, a tribute to and examination of Joe Lansdale, the Lone Star State's "writer of the purple rage."
Marc Savlov, The Austin Chronicle
youtube
"Lansdale shares stories from his life and career in Nacogdoches, Texas while a wide range of artists and fans, including Joe Hill, Mick Garris, Brian Keene, Bruce Campbell, Don Coscarelli, and more, share what they love the most about the man and his work. All Hail the Popcorn King paints a vivid picture of iconoclastic creator Joe R Lansdale, who isn’t just a talented writer, but seems to be a genuinely good person, to boot. The interviews included here are in such a down-to-earth, conversational manner that you can’t help but just get drawn in by his charisma and sense of humor. I can’t imagine watching this and not being compelled to go grab the first book you can find and dive right in. Hell, I’ve read a fair chunk of his work and this made me want to go back and reread everything while scouring bookshop shelves for the ones I haven’t found yet."
Paul Brian McCoy, Psycho Drive-In
"Oppenheimer followed Lansdale, camera in hand, while he shared some moments of his life. It makes you feel as if you were the one having a conversation with him. This closeness makes you feel the extent of his love for all types of storytelling."
Adrienne Tyler, 1428Elm.com
"Lansdale talks like he writes, and you don’t want to look away. He’s a storyteller, and that lends itself to a documentary. Hansi Oppenheimer makes the film a visual feast to go along with the verbal one, just as rich in walking us back through time. Vintage footage of drive-in movies and intermission concession ads create a feeling of nostalgia that works well with Lansdale’s rememberings."
Lynn Zubernis, Fangasm, When academics go to Hollywood!

I seriously don't get it: what general presence? It was niche at best and beyond the period where the seasons came out, the "general presence" fizzled out every time after a couple weeks to make way for the next best mainstream film or show. Nobody really shares what kids are actually into, might be into, they just believe a show like this is worth carrying on for as long as a creator wants because online 20 somethings say so, they'll say kids are liking it despite providing nothing concrete about that.
I hate to be that guy but there are plenty of cartoons out here, right now, that would have and still would kill for a crumb of attention that Infinity Train or most of the mainstream shows online people fangasm about but nobody really concerns about them. Glitch Techs? Has basically been two layers deep of irrelevance for longer and that show suffered more than Infinity Train because at least IT got to have all its episodes finished each season. Imagine being a show that can't even have ALL of its episodes fully animated.
I'm just reminded of how much everyone says The Prince of Egypt was this "glorious, mature, gamechanging animated film that got everything right", but guess what's been talked about far more for many years? Shrek. Hardly 3 years later. I get it, animation deserves more respect by the higher ups, but we don't always know what everyone genuinely wants in animation. I don't know, I liked Infinity Train, but I can't help but be practical here overall cuz I'm a little tired.
Honestly, I'm tired of people saying Infinity Train was a show set to change animation when no it wasn't. It wasn't gonna be the next Avatar or Spongebob or Batman, Gravity Falls, Rick & Morty, or whatever. If it was, it would've had as much talk as the mentioned.
I get it. Writing of children's shows can be mature, should allowed to be mature, but people want fun. Infinity Train was mature, but not as fun. I'll say it. It stopped being fun after a while, I didn't care about the intricacies or lore because it was often a droll YA story otherwise.
I'm not asking for balls to walls thrills or utter tearjerker journeys, but it's reason to believe that is why many didn't give a shit and no doubt why it got cancelled. Being mature doesn't mean you're instantly fun to be around.

Occasional Mumble: Transformers: The Last Knight Review
Warning: Lengthy Post Which Includes Spoilers
Transformers certainly has come a long way since the mid-1980’s. Not only is the original cartoon series hailed as one of the many staples of the era, but several cartoons and comics have been created to keep the franchise fresh and alive ever since, for better or worse. I’ve gone into excruciating detail about one of the good pieces of the franchise, More Than Meets The Eye, in some of my earliest posts, but now it is time to talk about the ever present mediocre portion of the franchise; the live action films, or more specifically the most recent addition: Transformers: The Last Knight.
The “basic” plot of the film is as follows: Optimus Prime has left Earth to find his creator, who hired a bounty hunter to apprehend the Autobot leader and kill anyone else who stood in his way. He eventually meets the being known as Quintessa, the “Prime of Life”, who has turned the ravaged, war torn planet of Cybertron into a vessel currently on a collision course with Earth. Quintessa, enraged by Optimus’s participation in Cybertron’s destruction, brainwashes him into thinking that the only way to revive his home world is to drain Earth of it’s energy, which will subsequently kill the oldest enemy of Transformer kind: Unicron.
Meanwhile, Transformers have been declared public enemy number one by all but the Cuban governments, and are now being hunted down. Cade Yeager (the protagonist from the previous film played by Mark Walberg) is considered the highest on the list due to aiding and abetting the Autobots, and has now discovered a talisman from a dying Cybertronian that may be the key to stopping Quintessa from destroying the Earth.
Now that the basics have been addressed, let’s talk about pros versus cons. Believe it or not, in spite of most reviews, there are actually some points of merit in this film (at least from my perspective). Firstly, this film does attempt to have continuity with the previous films by showing locations and Easter Eggs from said films, though this is executed in an admittedly sub-par manner. Secondly, and more surprisingly, the film is written in a way that allows the Transformers, good and bad, to have more screen-time in comparison to their human allies/enemies. This has been an issue in previous films, as audiences were more interested in the title characters than the persistently lukewarm human characters. While it is necessary to have human characters for the audience to relate to, if they have more screen-time and speaking lines than the giant robots who are supposed to be the starring characters, there is a problem. Speaking of the robots, some of the characters were actually written in a way that made them tolerable. John Goodman’s Hound is as much in top form as he was in Age of Extinction, being both amusing and actually competent on the battlefield. Another robot I enjoyed was the “Headmaster” Cogman (you’ll see why I put quotations around that later). Played by Jim Carter, this four foot tall clockwork robot butler acts as a supporting, slightly comedic character with psychopathic tendencies. He had some genuinely funny moments and lines which made him probably the most enjoyable character out of the roster.
Now, no more beating around the bush. This is a Michael Bay Transformers film, so there are plenty of cons to talk about, and not the ones from Cybertron. First and foremost, there are plenty of aspects in this film that are not addressed or explained. As seen in the trailers, Bumblebee has this miraculous new ability to literally pull himself back together after being broken. I thought for sure this would be explained as Cade using his technological skills to make some sort of magnetic deus-ex-machina device, but no. Also, certain fangasm inducing aspects appear in the film, but are never utilized to the fullest extent, like Cogman’s Headmaster ability, which allows a small robot like him to become the head of a larger body. There were even some rumors spreading prior to the movie’s release about Cogman ripping the head off one of the Decepticons and taking the body as his own. But, unfortunately these rumors were either false, or the concept was scrapped. Another example is this submarine used to find a sunken Cybertronian vessel in the ocean. The submarine was declared a Transformer by the human characters, but not once did it transform into what could have been a massive robot, nor was it ever given a name. It might as well have been just a normal submarine. There are also other various unnamed/unmentioned Transformers scattered around the movie with no real purpose. If they had never been in the film at all, nothing would be different.
Also, the Decepticons are barely given any presence in the film, in spite of my previous statement about the robots getting more screentime. True, there was a moment when Megatron (yes, Megatron, not Galvatron) introduced his “crew” of the day, and his minions were given more character and actual voices rather than standard growls and snarls, but most of them are killed off in mere moments. Some of their names are absolutely silly as well, such as Mohawk, Nitro Zeus and Dreadbot. Not to mention one of them, poorly named Berserker, is not even allowed to join his Decepticon brethren on the battlefield, resulting in him being completely pointless in spite of having a toy out in stores before the film was even released. But none of this even matters anyway, as most of the Decepticons are killed mere moments after being introduced.
Speaking of villains with minimal explanation or presence, Quintessa was the most underwhelming antagonist right next to The Fallen from Revenge of The Fallen. She did absolutely nothing but provide exposition, act like a Tesla coil when she tries to drain the Earth, get shot by Bumblebee of all bots, and have a “surprise” appearance in a mid-credit scene to build up another sequel. If she had been replaced with a cinematic version of the Quintessons, the five-faced creators of the classic Transformers, I think the character would have had at least some impact on an Easter Egg level at least.
Even some aspects of the plot itself are absolutely ridiculous if not plain stupid. The magical MacGuffin in this film is a staff that was passed down from ancient Transformers to one human. That human was…(wait for it)...Merlin. Yes, Merlin the Wizard. The very same wizard who helped King Arthur claim the throne. Merlin is an actual character in this film, or at least in the beginning. And it gets worse from there, as Merlin has a family tree that has continued into the modern era, resulting in the second protagonist of the film (played by Laura Haddock) being a direct descendant of Merlin. If you just heard a small popping sound in your head, that was the sound of a few brain cells suddenly exploding from the absurdity of this set-up.
Finally, the Bay-isms. Good lord, the Bay-isms. These films persist in having poorly written characters, immature humor which never makes me laugh, nonsensical plot points and character motivations, and yet somehow gets away with it. Yes, the blame rests upon the shoulders of the audience and myself for watching these films in the first place, but the blame also rests upon the numerous writers for never providing audience members with something beyond this monotonous cycle. Many critics, both professional and amateur, have complained about the repetition of these elements, and yet neither the director, nor the writers have ever done anything to change or improve the formula since the first ever film back in 2007. While I am known to enjoy these films as what is classified as a guilty pleasure, even I have grown tired of the Bay-isms. However, maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel, as numerous sources say that Michael Bay may be leaving the studio, allowing future films in the franchise to hopefully be made under a more competent director.
In the end, Transformers The Last Knight is not a good film. I know, “shocker”. The story is both ludicrous and silly, and not even in the fun way, most of the characters are underdeveloped, poorly written or absolutely pointless and the “humor” is horrendously dull, never once receiving a laugh from me. There were points that intrigued me, but they were not enough to distract me from the glaringly terrible elements which loomed over the film like the planet Cybertron over Earth, except there was no hero to save this film from its collision with it’s own mediocrity. Hopefully the rumors of Michael Bay’s departure from the franchise are true in spite of Mark Wahlberg's insistence to the contrary, because there may be hope for future films if that is the case.
But in the meantime, never stop rambling, TM

Fangasm- “A Chat With Eric Kripke – The Boys, Supernatural and Crafting the Icebergs Under the Water”
(...) Side note: Eric has always been fine with fans “playing in his sandbox” and understands transformative works as a sign of affection for his characters and his worlds. There’s a whole chapter on our early conversations about Supernatural in Fangasm Supernatural Fangirls if you’re curious. (...) E: And I didn’t spend an incredible amount of time thinking about politics or the world that my children will grow up in, because I didn’t have any yet. I was just trying to make a scary show and put into it stuff that I emotionally felt was right. And I think now I spend a lot more time worrying about the world we’re in and how – look, whether you’re left or right wing or conservative or liberal – we’re in a world in which we’re completely inundated by social media and corporations, massive frankly God-like corporations, using those mediums to manipulate us to work against our own best interests.
L: Scarily true.
E: Instead of coming together. So to me, what Supernatural kind of ended up being about and what The Boys is really about is real people taking on that machinery because that machinery is manipulating us and turning us against each other and making us scared and angry. Instead of what we should be, which is a community of people trying to help each other muddle through all this bullshit.
L: Like Sam and Dean and Cas do on Supernatural. (...) E: The best episodes of Supernatural, the monsters and the creatures they’re up against were always metaphors for something. We started with, what are Sam and Dean going through, and now how can we come up with a creature that personifies that? (...) (...)The theme of Supernatural and the theme of The Boys is the thing that I most value, which is family and loyalty to your friends and pulling together in tough situations and showing your humanity and vulnerability and just sticking together. That’s the closest thing I’ve got to a world view. (...) E: I mean, we’ll see what they’re doing, but I’ve chatted with Jensen a little bit over the last couple months and he’s like, how’s The Boys doing? And I said it’s so cool, it’s so fun and so filthy and like when you get done with that other short term show you’re on, come on over and play with us…
L: (laughing) You know they would love it!
E: My guess is they’ll wanna sleep for a year, but I’d be happy – no, I’d be proud – to bring Jared and Jensen into The Boys if they wanted to do it.
L: Fingers crossed. So, last question, and this one’s more about Supernatural. Jensen said that he struggled a bit with the ending of Supernatural and you were really able to help him see it differently. What stuck out to you in that ending that made you feel okay with it, as the creator of these characters and this world?
E: It was interesting because, the truth is, the ending that I probably originally had in mind when I was starting the show – we’ve pretty much spent it one way or another in story. It was probably not viable from Season 7 on. I think I kinda made peace with that, that we’ll never be able to do it because we’ve done versions of it here and there over the seasons just because inevitably a show goes on that long, you use every possible story.
L: That makes sense.
E: So when he pitched me the ending I was like – it was new to me, the first time I’d heard it – so I said give me a day to really think about it and get back to you. And I thought about it and I thought about it – (laughing) I’m sure much to Andrew and Bob’s chagrin because they’re doing all the work – but I sat down and really thought about it because, you know, I love the show. And I thought okay, at this stage, if I were to come up with an ending, what would my ending for the show be? And I went through all of these different thoughts and angles and I ended up calling back Jensen and saying, we’ve got the perfect ending, man. I really went through some others – I tried to top it and I couldn’t – and I think for one main reason. So I give those guys a lot of credit because I think they really landed on the right ending for the show. And what I would say is – what I said to Jensen is, without spoiling everything – is like, I think after everything they’ve gone through, the thing that Sam and Dean deserve more than anything is peace.
L: (nodding because I suddenly couldn’t see my questions written down in front of me anymore…)
E: And without spoiling anything, I can say that this ending gives them peace. Their lives and their adventures are so painful and angsty…and like, just the idea that they get an ending that they have peace and some sense of resolution, I think it’s the thing they deserve. And the thing the fans deserve most of all.

An incredible dream returns
A year ago I had this incredible dream that has returned to me recently.
Two of my friends from college (Andrew and Chris) and I were at some random convention. One of them had extra tickets and it was my first convention (or would be). We also each had our copy of the canonical Journal 3 from Gravity Falls. Andrew, Chris, and I took some group pictures with our Journals and than some individual ones.
The first time I had this dream, the Journal wasn't yet available. I have, since the release, been enjoying my birthday gift very much. No like seriously, Journal 3 came out on my actual birthday! How cool is that?
Any hoots. It came time for my turn to have my picture taken. Andrew was taking the picture and Chris was standing behind him. Then they both started laughing. I had no idea what they were laughing at. I figured maybe some cosplayer in a weird costume walking around behind me. You never know with conventions.
So the picture is taken and than Chris does that "turn around" movement with his finger. I turn and found that Alex Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls and someone who greatly inspires me and I have nothing but admiration for, had snuck up behind me and photo bombed me. Needless to say, I had a major fangasm. I started screamed and I bawled happy tears and I felt I couldn't breath. I might have scared the poor man. Then it ended and I woke up.
The first time I had the dream, when I woke up I was actually crying and I may have actually screamed in the real world and got some dogs to start barking. Yeah I’m sure my neighbors at the time loved me.
It was an amazing dream - it is still an incredible dream to have - but I'm sad even now it was just a dream. Still I’m really happy this happened again. Who knows? The repeating dream might be a sign that I may actually get a chance this meet Alex in person. I already said how much I would love for that to happen. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk3BG40GoPw)

'Battlestar Galactica,' 'Supernatural's' Tahmoh Penikett talks up innovative new series 'Deep Six'
It’s been a while since I had the pleasure of chatting with Tahmoh Penikett, who memorably played Ezekiel/Gadreel on Supernatural a few seasons ago. Tahmoh just finished shooting on a new digital sci-fi adventure series called Deep Six, which caught my attention as a unique and exciting project. Deep Six is a digital sci-fi adventure series that follows a group of astronauts and their military escort on the first deep space mission. They find themselves stranded after an unanticipated accident, and – wouldn’t you know it – also confronted with a first encounter that may not be very friendly. What makes the series unusual is its focus on realism – the creator is a scientist, and the show has two real life experts as consultants, including a professor of astrophysics and a space historian. With their help, Deep Six aims to portray space in all its beauty and majesty as well as its terrifying silence and endless expanse. Much as sci-fi classics like 2001 and Alien anchored their stories in realism and thus amped up the terror, Deep Six aims to be both accurate and scary. Sign me up! I caught up with Tahmoh today after a week of our schedules absolutely refusing to mesh and me coming down with a truly horrifying cold. But we persevered! You can read our other interview with Tahmoh Penikett here. [caption id="attachment_42462" align="aligncenter" width="620"] Photos: Fangasm[/caption] Lynn: It’s so nice to talk to you again! We miss you at the Supernatural conventions, by the way. Tahmoh: Yeah it’s been a while, thank you. I miss being there; those things are fun. Lynn: Well Supernatural is going into its 13th season, so who knows, you may be back. Tahmoh: (laughing) With Supernatural, you never know! So true. So what if Gadreel sacrificed himself in a moment of heroism? Death is an impediment to returning to Supernatural. Lynn: I was fascinated by what I’ve heard about Deep Six. Is that one of the things that drew you to this project, the focus on realism? Do you think that will make the series scarier? Tahmoh: I think any time that you have a creator and showrunner who is determined to make something as realistic as possible -- being honest about the risks involved with space travel, where we might be in the future, what limitations we might have, whatever exceptional technologies we may have advanced in – but being real about the dangers of space and how hard space is. And that makes it more plausible for the viewer and the audience. In general, to me, as humans, we’re moving ahead at such an incredible rate in terms of technology, and specifically rocket propulsion and traveling to other planets, and eventually getting to Mars has become a priority again. It wasn’t for about 30 years in terms of the major space agencies in the world, and for NASA, it just was not a priority. Now it’s become a priority again, and we’re seeing the possibilities, and you hear we may be getting there in ten to fifteen years. So it’s really fascinating, but there are inherent risks. And here you have a creator like the ones who created Deep Six, and they’re trying to stay true to that. They’re having scientific advisors, and as a result, they have a show that is much more realistic and much more plausible. Audiences, in general, are educated about it because we’re watching all the programs, we’re following Elon Musk on twitter, we’re following NASA, we’re seeing all the updates, and we’re seeing what the limitations are. So in general, we’re quite educated about what is really happening. Lynn: That’s sort of what I was thinking. It seems to me the more realism, the more there’s the potential for really being scared, simply because it seems more plausible. I remember seeing 2001 A Space Odyssey – I was a kid and probably too young to actually be watching it, but that’s part of what made it so scary. Tahmoh: Yeah, Battlestar Galactica is a perfect example of a show I was on that had that – there was, of course, some technology we had, we’re doing space travel – but the Battlestar itself, it was classic, it really looked like a military vessel. It was like a warship. We had the old school phones to communicate. It wasn’t really fancy but a lot of it was science based, we had actual rocket scientists who were consultants on the show, so a lot of the technology had science behind it. And I think that’s what these guys are trying to do, so that’s good, man. [I’ve said this before, but I love the way Tahmoh talks – he’s clearly so knowledgeable and then he just casually tosses in a ‘man’ or a ‘love, , ’ and it’s just like, OH.] Lynn: Yeah, I totally agree. Did you get to interact with the scientist consultants as a guest act or you were just aware of their influence in the conceptualization of the show? Tahmoh: Yeah, I was just aware of their influence. I got the call, and the timing wasn’t ideal, but my agent said, just look at the script, I’ve heard good things, people have been talking about it, and it’s apparently a really good script. So I read the scene they wanted me to do, and it was literally one full day of work they wanted me to do. And once I read the script, I was like you know, this would be great to do, this is really well written. Better than most web series that I’ve seen done. And it just worked out time-wise, but mostly I wanted to do it because the script was so well done but also the consultants on it. So I went out there, and they were selling me on it as we were trying to make it happen, they were selling me on the project with all the information about how they had consulting scientists, how one of the creators is actually a physicist himself. You know, it definitely leant it some real credibility when you know that people like that are involved, and they’re trying to make something as real as that. Lynn: I’m not surprised at the quality of the script just because they seem to be putting so much heart and so much motivation into the entire project. That probably translates. Did it translate also to the day of filming? It sounds like it was a long day, but was it a set where people were motivated? Like the Supernatural set where every time I’ve been there, everyone seems to work so smoothly and even when things go wrong, everyone seems to go with the flow because they all seem to love what they’re doing? Was this a similar set? Tahmoh: Similar. You know, obviously, it’s hard to compare it with some other aspects, these guys were working with a very limited budget, but it definitely didn’t look like it. They were very efficient, everyone I saw on the crew was very good at their job, and on board and invested. So yeah, I guess they did share those qualities like on Supernatural, and that’s always a good thing. You know a project is good when everyone is really pulling their own because they believe in it, they believe in the story. If you believe in the story, you want to be a part of it and bring your best work, because the end product should be great. And I’m excited to be a part of that. Lynn: Can you tell me anything about your character? Tahmoh: I can’t speak a lot on him, I don’t know how much they’ve released. All I can say is he’s one of the astronauts’ commanding officers, so he’s kind of the veteran. He’s been around the block, and he’s someone who a lot of the other astronauts look up to. And you get a sense of his character right away, who he is, how much experience he has. Then the situation takes a turn for the worst, and that’s the surprising hook of my episode is what they encounter, what sort of problems he faces and how he deals with it. And he’s obviously a veteran and very capable and smart and a leader and the others respect him. He’s serious, and he’s also got a joking and playful attitude at times, but it’s also, they’re astronauts and there’s no messing around, so when it comes down to business, and the situation gets serious, he’s by the book. Lynn: I’m glad to hear that he gets at least a little opportunity to do a little bit of comedy because I know from your other projects how good you are at that subtle comedy. Tahmoh: Yeah, I don’t, unfortunately, get the opportunity a lot to do it, but whenever I can squeeze it in there, it’s kinda who I am, and I think most of us have that in us, right? Lynn: Right, I totally agree. I know from talking to you at length in the past about your portrayal of Gadreel how thoughtful you are about the characters you’re portraying and creating a backstory so you can find what their motivation is and so you can understand them from a psychological viewpoint. [See my earlier interview with Tahmoh for that discussion here} When you go in to do something like this, where you have to create a character and their arc in literally one day, is that challenging for someone who likes to really get a handle on the person you’re portraying? Tahmoh: That’s a really good point you just made because it is. Normally if I have two days of preparation, that’s still a very short amount of time. It’s kind of an essential part of my process to write the backstory. This was very very last minute, and I was travelling and there were things going on, so this was so last minute that I literally jumped on a plane after an afternoon of negotiating, flew, time difference, lost three hours, Toronto, out the next morning, shot all day. So I didn’t have the opportunity, I simply couldn’t do the work that I normally would, so I have to trust the script. I communicated to the writers before I arrived and I had a conversation with them where I said, you’re really going to have to lay out for me who this guy is, beyond what’s in the given circumstances and what’s in the script, I need you to tell me who he is and then I’ll work with that as best I can in this short amount of time we have. Lynn: That makes sense. I remember that in our last chat, in the green room at some Supernatural convention, we spent a lot of time talking about your process because as a psychologist, that’s what fascinates me. How actors make sense of their characters and how you bring that through, especially a very complicated character like Gadreel. So that was my first thought, I wonder how he’s doing that because this is a different set of circumstances. Tahmoh: Yeah, that’s very observant of you. Sometimes you just don’t have the opportunity. And I’ve said this before, sometimes you – and it’s rare, unfortunately – but sometimes the script is so good and the character is so good that you connect with the character on such a cerebral and such an instinctual level that you don’t have to make those choices. You CAN and you may, but sometimes you just completely understand that character. Sometimes you understand them so well that you trust in the script 100%, but because I like to do my due diligence, I’ll still – it just makes it that much easier to color his backstory if I do have the opportunity to write some of it, you know? Lynn: Yeah. Tahmoh: It always helps, because it layers the work and it makes it more real, and you don’t just forget about it. Helo (on Battlestar Galactica) I definitely ended up writing a lot of backstory, but also when I had the audition, I just understood him 100%. I got him. I was like, just let me in the room. I didn’t have to use those techniques that you use to get you in an emotional place, whether it be substitution or sense memory or things like that, it was just there for me. Every once in a while in your career you’re blessed with things like that. Lynn: That must feel really good when it happens. Did you have to do more work with the Gadreel character on Supernatural because it was such an unusual character and had such an unusual evolution? Tahmoh: I had to do some work, but for that – and I’ve told this story before – it threw me off at first when I found out that Jared [Padalecki] was already playing the character. Because he’s one of the leads of the show! So Jared and I were playing the same character, and me not knowing that – I thought that I would be playing Ezekiel or Gadreel first, and then when I found out he had already played him – on the day that I was playing him – that threw me off. Lynn: I guess so! Tahmoh: But I got to see, and like I said before, he was doing very specific stuff, so I was able to incorporate it. But it was also not far off from what I was going to do, so that made it easier. And then, getting a sense of where they were thinking of taking the character, that’s when I started changing some of – not changing, but I started adding to who I thought Gadreel was. And I started making some different specific choices. Because the unfortunate thing is when they don’t really give you a sense of where your character is going to go and their arc, but only a loose idea, you also have to remain open to changing some of your choices. You might be making some strong choices, but they just might not work. Lynn: [nodding] Tahmoh: And so you have to be open to that as an actor. And I’ve done it before, I’ve put in a ton of work and made some strong choices, and then you come in, and the producer or director is like, actually no, we need you to do more of this, and you’re like welp okay! Lynn: (laughing) You don’t really think about the amazing flexibility that acting requires. Especially when you’re a guest actor I think, you’re always going in and creating characters who aren’t the leads and so there hasn’t been the amount of backstory given to you. I remember talking with Curtis Armstrong about how he struggled sometimes with Metatron on Supernatural because he was never given the whole story and didn’t know where the character was going. So like you he kept making choices and sometimes they worked and sometimes… Tahmoh: (laughing) Yeah! I totally can relate to that, and Curtis is so fantastic and did such a fantastic job. I could definitely see that was the case with him too, you know? I felt that the writers were taking Gadreel in a very sort of evil nemesis sort of way and I just felt like I wanted to play against that a little bit. And when Jared was playing him, he was doing it too – I could see it clearly in his performance, so he kind of set that up for me also, which was great. Lynn: And I think it really worked out in the end because Gadreel did get to be heroic. I think that all of us who were feeling a fondness for the character – much like Metatron – were second guessing ourselves going hmm why am I feeling this way? We were probably picking up on those subtle things that you and Curtis and Jared were doing, but it made sense eventually because both of them got to be heroes ultimately. Tahmoh: That’s awesome, yeah. Lynn: It was, it was cool. I won’t keep you too long – and I’m astounded that I’ve managed not to have a coughing fit for 20 minutes – but is there anything else you’re excited about or going up for that you want to talk about? Tahmoh: I’ve done three episodes of Incorporated, a new sci-fi series which is really well done. I got to work with an actor I’ve long admired, Dennis Haysbert, and with Allison Miller. I’m having a blast doing that right now! Lynn: It was so great to talk to you again – we really do miss you on the convention circuit, and I hope our paths cross soon. I’m really looking forward to seeing you on Deep Six. Tahmoh: Great talking to you soon – be well, love. ETA: Imdb tells me that Tahmoh is also part of the new series that’s generating a lot of buzz, Netflix’s Altered Carbon, a futuristic show in which your consciousness can be saved when your body dies and then implanted into another. Some big names are attached, with a very diverse and international cast, so stay tuned for that one also! In the meantime, you can come along for the ride with Deep Six.
