I've found posting consistently on Instagram to be a challenge. One of my goals for myself was that I would post every day, at least once a day. The last few weeks were so emotional for me, it was hard to be on any form of social media. Well I fully understand and appreciate the importance of consistency, being in the right emotional space is also really important. Was able to get more filming in for my video about invisible disability. It’s funny to me how The story will reveal itself to me slowly as I work on the video. The biggest challenge for this project has been finding a way to accurately beautifully and poetically capture all the conflicted feelings I feel about being disabled. On The one hand I feel a great sense of loss, but on the other I know this experience of losing abilities has shaped me and powerful and positive ways. After deciding to put my video about gratitude aside, because I realized I was stuck, I started to work on a video about a topic I’ve been avoiding, that is disability. I find it really difficult to talk about the fact that I’m disabled and I have been for sometime. When I imagined my life disability wasn’t an element that I ever expected to play such a significant role in who I’ve become. The truth is disability has shaped my life in very powerful ways. I’m starting to realize that working on this video about disability is really essential to me being able to finish the video about gratitude. Part of the willingness to take chances creatively, is a willingness to look at myself differently. To imagine that I can do things that might feel impossible, strange or uncomfortable. Just dropped a new YouTube video yesterday, which feels like a major accomplishment, given the struggle it took to create it. This was the first video I ever created where I used a portion of a symphonic Beethoven piece in combination with a voiceover. Getting the sound levels right was such a magnificent struggle. I’m glad I did it, now I know how to work with a complex piece of music that has great variation in audio levels. The video I published isn’t perfect, and you can’t always hear my voice perfectly, but I learned a lot! Pulling together a YouTube video that has all the elements of great story, great performance great vision and create audio, is such a wonderful challenge. Working on the final scene of my latest video has proved profoundly challenging. Finding the right words to describe experiences that so easily escape the envelope of language, is a kind of magic. I want to explore the topic of invisible illness, a difficult topic to discuss, in a compelling, truthful and refreshing way.
