I feel like not enough people know about the International Dialects of English Archive. It's a fantastic resource if you want to get a handle on how a character might sound or just if you're interested in language and accents.
(This is particularly directed at my Warhammer mutuals just because I feel like there's some Primarch and/or OC mileage to be had here π)

Going crazy over this stuff
HEY ARTISTS!
Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and youβre tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so hereβs a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:
OPEN ANY CATEGORY AND OH LORDYβ
Thereβs a lot of really specific stuff in here, I design a lot of 1930s characters for my ask blog and with more chapters on the way for the game it belongs to Iβm gonna be designing more, and this website is going to be an invaluable reference. I hope this can be useful to my other fellow artists as well! :)

OKAY SO YOU KNOW THAT FEELING when you spend hours creating this gorgeous pattern and it looks PERFECT on your screen but then you print it and suddenly there are these OBVIOUS SEAMS EVERYWHERE??? π
Listen, we've been there. We've cried those tears. We've rage-quit Illustrator more times than we can count. And after countless cups of coffee and approximately 47,385 test prints, we're here to share Everything We Learned About Pattern Designβ’οΈ
This isn't one of those "professional expert guru" guides because honestly? We're still learning too! But we've compiled all our "oh god I wish someone had told me this sooner" moments into one massive post, including:
β How to fix those annoying visible seams (WITHOUT starting over) β The actual difference between half-drop and brick repeats (with pictures!) β Why your beautiful design might look like a blob when printed on fabric (learned that one the hard way π
) β All the tools we tried (so you don't have to waste money on the wrong ones) β Real talk about pattern design across different industries
Plus a bunch of troubleshooting tips we've collected through our many, many mistakes. Because if we're going to mess up, at least let's mess up together! π

Dizziness / feeling faint / vision blurring
Dry mouth β unable to speak or even scream
Uncontrollable Behavior
Screaming / sobbing / gasping β involuntary vocal outbursts
Panic run β bolting without thinking, tripping over everything
Clawing at their own skin / chest / throat β like trying to escape their body
Begging / pleading out loud even if no oneβs there
Repeating words or phrases β βNo, no, noβ / βThis isnβt happeningβ
Hiding instinctively β diving under tables, closets, or corners
Desperate grabbing β reaching for someone, anything solid

Draw from diverse mediums: Engage with art, music, or even scientific papers to inspire unexpected plot twists.
Embrace absurdity: Let illogical or surreal ideas guide you; sometimes the wildest thoughts lead to compelling stories.
Reverse clichΓ©s: Identify common tropes in your favorite genres and deliberately invert them to create fresh perspectives.
Incorporate personal anomalies: Transform your idiosyncrasies and personal struggles into rich, multi-dimensional characters.
Use mind-mapping: Visually plot your ideas in a freeform way to uncover hidden connections between disparate elements.
