part of what made across the spiderverse so perfect was that it was largely centered on WHO spider-man is, in EVERY universe. not just Miles, or Peter, or Gwen, or Miguel. Spider-Man. it was about the ESSENCE of Spider-man. Spider-Man is love for humanity. Spider-Man is having to sacrifice and lose everything you love for the mask. Spider-Man is rebellion against the powers that be. Spider-Man is about trying to do both, in every universe. about not taking no for an answer or listening when everyone tells you your destiny. refusing to choose between the things and people you love. that’s why Spider-Man is so compelling: they want everything, even though everyone else tells them they can’t have it. that it’s not meant to be. and they just. keep. trying. keep getting back up. they just keep going, man.

an element of horror that the silt verses does really really really well is establishing how utterly normalised and accepted human sacrifice is in both "civilised" society and counterculture communities. "a god must feed, a god must be fed" is taken as common sense; the idea of questioning it is laughable to most people. animal sacrifice is seen as at best a temporary substitute for the real thing, and not cost-effective enough to maintain. whether lured into traps and staked to posts as offerings to predatory gods, or coerced into signing contracts that forfeit your life to the state by predators in suits and ties and butchered for parts in sterile white rooms where no one will hear you beg and scream for help, sacrifices are treated like animals, seen as less than human. prayer marks to hallow someone into a saint are branded onto the body like those of livestock. a character who will go on to become one of the most progressive actors for change in the show is introduced to us thanking a saint for their suffering (which powers the train which she takes to commute to work every day) because she sincerely believes that offering a meaningless platitude in order to lessen her guilt at her own complicity is all that she can do. not a single character is introduced to us believing in any system but the one that they've always known. the abuses and exploitation that the entire societal structure relies on are baked into the foundations so completely that imagining anything different outside of it terrifies them at first. it's bone-chillingly brilliant worldbuilding.

After crabs the second most talked about animal in the silt verses is birds: Carpenter and Faulkner traveling under the disguise of birdwachers, the name of their river, Mason's childhood story, Faulkner thinking of his followers as birds, even just Faulkner's name, etc. In a naturalist way, it makes sense, rivers provide homes to many bird species, birds are very important to the biosphere of a river. And in a textual way, seens they are associated with the Wacher in the Wings birds could represent symbolically the narrative, the story that the characters are performing, that they have crafted and locked themselfs in or that other have crafted and caged them in, and that will seize them and slow them whole, just like birds will with their prey. I wonder if, giving that a faulkner is the job title of someone who keeps and trains falcons, Faulkner's name is meant to represent that fact that he is the character who is most preoccupied with trying to tame his narrative, to make the story take the shape he wants.

So picture Peter falls into DC, and his canon ties to his own universe are cut because his canon was essentially erased, comic book logic and all that

So DC (or sentient Gotham!) Basically adopts Peter into their universe, and also his canon.

What does that mean, you ask?

PICTURE THIS.

Peter now has to live through everything considered a canon even for a Spider-Man, including but not limited to Uncle Ben's death. This works beautifully when paired with Jason being Ben's equivalent, like a fine wine and cheese

One thing that I have only seen a couple of people point out-- Miguel is straight up WRONG about Pavitr's dimension. What is happening in Pavitr's dimension is NOT the same as what happened to the universe where Miguel replaced his variant--- it's what the ORIGINAL Peter Parker from Miles's universe said would happen.

A BLACK HOLE Opened up under Mumbattan. Chris Pine's version of Peter Parker says that during his fight with Green Goblin and Kingpin and Prowler. He warns them that if they use the collider it could open up a black hole underneath Brooklyn. THAT is what's happening to Pavitr. But Miguel is, like most of the audience for most of the movie, underestimating the Spot. He's too focused on Miles. He and the other Spideys aren't paying attention to the Spot and the damage he's doing. EVEN AS HE IS DOING IT. Spot is a massive threat and they're STILL underestimating him. It's a big thing and it's crazy to think about it.
