no, see, I get this is probably for barbie doll collectors (hence the price), but this is the equivalent of selling pre-ripped jeans. if I were a mattel employee, i would collab with crayola and make kits that kids can use to mod their barbies. washable markers, safety scissors, stamps, stickers (especially extra eye stickers) extra heads/arms/legs (upcycled from old stock?), maybe some wigs, something rubbery for the child to chew on so they can focus on sculpting their barbie masterpiece, etc. i wish i had any of my old toys so i can show you all. what they blossomed into within my gentle 8 year old hands.

Round 2A
Blur's Self-Titled: And when she lets me slip away... Some bands make their debut with an eponymous album (Placebo did the year before, as would Albarn's second great success Gorillaz) but Blur knew that declaration of self-actualizion was worth saving. Blur by Blur is the fifth studio album by the acclaimed English pop-rock-alternative-shoegaze-anything that'll stick-band, fronted by 90s coverboy Damon Albarn. The album brought us the singles Beetlebum and Song 2, the former of which debuted at #1 on the UK charts, and the latter of which would properly break in the US and give the band the footing on American soil they'd previously missed. Woo-hoo! Despite its mainstream success (the album is certified Platinum) Blur has a distinctly more experimental sound than their Britpop classics and explores rougher indie production sentiments; guitarist Graham Coxon centers his widening musical tastes and produces some of his proudest work, while Albarn has stated that the track On Your Own may be regarded as the first taste of Gorillaz-before-Gorillaz. Although it would not be the end of the road for the band's internal turmoil and eventual reconciliation, it would come to represent an era of growth and emotional authenticity in their music.
Crayola Mini-Stampers: Space Shapes: Alright, cards on the table... Crayola Mini-Stampers were a cute and terribly nostalgic product of the 90s, but they almost definitely pre-date 1997. I could've tried lying to you about this, but I don't want dishonesty between us, gentle reader. Crayola Mini-Stampers, as the name suggests, were modified Crayola markers which acted as low-mess kid-friendly stamps. Due to largely undocumented rollouts of the various designs across different states and countries, it's difficult to say with certainty when the very first product hit the shelves. What we can verify the origin date of, however, is one specific and exceptionally decade-appropriate design: Space Shapes, which were sold across the US in 1997. This coveted pack featured rockets, planets, stars, UFOs and little green aliens with disarming, definitely not hostile smiles, so let's all just stay calm, okay? The 90s were a glorious decade for school and art supplies, and what the Mini-Stampers lacked in versatility and neon baby tigers, they made up for in extraterrestrial awareness (which neatly coincided with intergalactic box office hits of the year Men In Black and Space Jam.)

168/1000 - Panda Stamp Hand Carved on an Eraser
Panda 168 of my 1000 Pandas art project.
I used a carving tool from Amazon and some pink erasers I got at the dollar store. Very fun!
For ink, I used regular Crayola markers. As you can see, I had fun with all the different colors. :D

It's dumb when I looked up eco friendly/recyclable wrapping paper (seriously don't put regular wrapping paper in the recycling it usually means your entire neighborhood's recycling gets put in regular garbage, even if your paper doesn't have glitter on it it's usually still coated with plastic) and it's like twenty dollars for ten small sheets of brown paper with some generic designe stamped on them.
Meanwhile rolls of kraft paper or butcher paper are much cheaper and you can decorate them with a Crayola marker as much as you like. Or like save free newsprint spam mail and use that like I do. Or hell, get some cheap aluminum foil from the dollar store if you want something shiny and recyclable
The only thing that stymies me is that I don't know if paper with plastic scotch tape on it is recyclable, so I've been taking to using paper painter's tape just in case
#gift wrapping#wrapping paper#eco friendly#recycling#holidays#birthdays#not to humble brag but I've been using newsprint and aluminum foil for my gift wrap since i was like ten#that is a humble brag who am i kidding#the best time to care about the environment is yesterday. the second best time is now#plastic

The downside to getting into Star Wars 40 years late is I missed out on a lot of cool Star Wars merch! So I recently bought a pack of Star Wars stamper markers on eBay! These markers are from 1997 & one has dried out! (Not bad for markers that are old enough to legally drink in the US) so I had to revive it! Made a Snapchat story tutorial on how I did it! Walkman -- Fred Weasley
Wow another one huh? Yea :)
Summary - Fred is suddenly interested in muggle studies so the reader teaches him some
Word Count - 1.9k
It wasn't often that other students at Hogwarts cared much about Muggle items. So when Fred had recently taken in interest in muggle studies, he had came to y/n about it.
"Its not that I know nothing, I know plenty from what my father goes on about. But I don't know, I want to learn more." She and Fred had been friends for a little over a year and he hadn't previously expressed any liking to the subject. So why now? Why not just sign up for Muggle Studies?
She didn't care enough to express it aloud.
See, Y/n had grown up as a muggle. Her mum had been a witch but both her and her father feared she wouldn't be a witch because she didn't show the normal signs at a young age. So they sent her to muggle school until she officially got her letter. No one could explain the relief and joy on her mum's face when she saw the letter in their box.
"When do you have time to learn?" She asked with a tilt of her head.
"Any time really. We could practically start now!" He replied excitedly. She shook her head with a smile.
"You're lucky it's a Saturday you git, I'll floo home and grab some stuff to teach you about." And with that she turned and walked away from the boy. For the first time in a while he was genuinly excited to learn something, maybe because his teacher would be someone he fancied. He thought maybe he hadn't felt like this since he discovered he could scare the trousers off his mum by hiding behind doors and jumping out at 6 years old.
And so he waited for her to get back.
While Fred waited at the castle, Y/n appeared suddenly in her homes fireplace. This earned quite the screech from her little brother who was sat on the couch.
And yes, was, he promptly fell off the couch once she appeared.
"Sorry Alastair, just came to grab a few things. Is dad home?" He nodded, pointing behind him to the kitchen where the smell of pancakes wafted through the house.
Not only was Y/n's dad a muggle, he was also American. He had moved from America when he was 17, wanting to escape his horrendous family and have a big change. He met Y/n's mother when he was visiting a museum in Scottland. She had been on a field trip for muggle studies.
"Dad?" He jumped slightly, nearly dropping the spatula he held in his hand.
"Christ Y/n, what are you doing here." He laughed, pulling her into a side hug.
"One of my friends wants to learn more about muggles and asked if I would teach him. Have any recommendations on what I should tell him about?" His eyes narrowed at his daughter.
"Is this that boy I heard you talking to mom about? The tall ginger boy?" Her cheeks flushed at the comment, partially because he had been eavesdropping on her and her mother and partially because he was correct. After a few seconds of silence, she spoke up again.
"Can you just give me ideas please?" He decided not to tease her further and began brewing up ideas for her.
"Alright, I have a few things I think he may like to hear about, literally." This peaked the girls curiosity as she followed him to her parents shared bedroom.
Y/n's dad ruffled through his side table and brought out a Walkman.
"Do you think he's ever used one of these?" He handed it to her nonchalantly.
"Definitely not." She laughed, grabbing it from his hands.
"You could probably just grab a few random things from your room and he wouldn't know what they were. It stunned me how much stuff your mother was unaware of." He shrugged. "You can borrow it for a while. And take this tape, I made it for your mom so she could hear top hits from America."
"Perfect! Thanks Dad." And she was then off to her room in search for more things to show Fred.
It didn't take her long to gather a few things and bring them to her dad to ask what he thought. She spread a pile of things out in front of him and asked him to weed out the things he thought Fred wouldn't understand.
They were left with a slap bracelet, a tamagotchi, the Walkman, and for fun, crayola step markers and stick on earrings from when Y/n was a kid. She thanked her dad with a hug and asked him to say hi to Mom for her and vanished through the floo again with a loud goodbye to her brother.
Once she arrived back, she skipped down the stairs to find Fred in the common room in front of the fireplace. His tie was loosened quite a bit and a few of his top buttons undone on his shirt. She bit the inside of her cheek like she didn often when he made her flustered.
Clearly he didn't have to do much.
"Would you like to come up to my dorm so I can show you some stuff?" She asked through the silence. His head whipped around with a sinister smile.
"Godric that's quite forward of you." He winked. She could feel the inevitable heat rushing to her cheeks at the comment.
"You know that's not what I meant you arse, do you wanna learn or not?" She crossed her arms over her chest and leaned against the wall behind her.
"Alright let's go." He stood with a laugh, squeezing her shoulder while going to trot up the stairs. She pushed ahead of him and got to her room door. Fred looked at her curiously as she leaned down close to her door handle and whispered into it. The door creaked open as she stood straight.
"What was that?" He asked, plopping on her bed.
"Mione and I charmed the door so that it needs a password. Don't want anyone walking in on is changing and stuff. The only ones who know it is us and Luna." She explained as she shuffled through the bag she brought back from her house.
"Can I know it?" His eyebrow quirked slightly, leaning back on his arms with a wicked smile.
"No you cannot, it's kind of an inside joke. Now scoot so I can show you stuff." He was shoved back slightly so he was sitting closer to the headboard of her bed and she sat opposite. She spread the things out on the bed as he looked at them with a scrunched face. He first picked up the stick ons.
"What are these?" He held them like it was a dirty nappy. She giggled and snatched them from his hands. Her fingers grabbed two of them and she used her other hand to grab his chin and bring his face closer. He stared into her eyes with intensity. She probably thought he was so confident, but it was really a front for how nervous she made him. Y/n quickly turned his head to the side and put the stick-on on his ear, repeating it on the other side.
"Now look in the mirror." He hopped from the bed and turned his head in the reflection with a giddy smile.
"I actually kind of like it." Y/n stuck some to her ears and stood in the mirror with him.
"Now match!" She said enthusiastically. He looked down at her with a sweet smile and adoring eyes.
*This girl was certainly something to him.*
"Alright more. This one is pretty self explanatory. It's called a slap bracelet. Put your wrist out." He did so with a suspicious look. She raised it and hit it to his wrist as it wrapped around it. She had never seen someone look so amazed. He took it off, straightened it, and did it again.
"That's phenomenal!"
"They make ruler versions of them too so you can carry around a ruler as a bracelet. I used them in primary."
It took her an exponentially long time to explain the tamagotchi to Fred. He was beyond confused about it. But they ended up taking care of what he called 'their baby' for a good 25 minutes.
*Their baby*
This of course wasnt something Y/n would really think about until weeks later. Daft woman.
They had really stamped up each others arms with the stamp markers as well. Along with a little heart Y/n had stamped sneakily on Fred's cheek.
She of course saved the best for last, the Walkman. She slipped the tape into it and handed it to him, teaching hin the buttons.
"This is a Walkman, for music. My dad said he has top his of the decade on it for my mom." She set the headphones on his head and pressed play. She could very mildly hear 'Wannabee' by the Spice girls leaking through the headset. She very slightly slid one side of the headset off of his ear so he could hear her, brushing his cheek on accident. Not that she noticed.
But he did.
"If you hold down this button it skips the song onto the next one." He held it done and 'I Want it that Way' by Backstreet Boys was playing. He really got into this song. He hooked the player onto his packet and got up and started dancing all dramatic. She sat up against her headboard just watching him enjoy herself.
Now, Y/n tended to say her thoughts aloud when she was extremely zoned in or out. It's not something that was intentional, it was actually something she hated. Most the time it got her into trouble. Most the time after it happend all she could think was simply.
*Well Shit*
"I'm so in love with you." It slipped effortlessly, ber eyes widening as soon as tr he words were said. She thought maybe she could have gotten lucky and the music would still be blaring in his ears. But since when was the girl lucky?
Fred slowly pulled the headphones from his head and scrunched his eyebrows.
"You are?" She couldn't read the exact emotion on his face, making her afraid to answer. So she just nodded. He sat by her slowly, not facing her, just sitting next to her. They both stared straight forward.
All you could hear in the room was the very subtle music leaking from the headphones at the end of the bed.
Fred felt like such a wimp. She literally just confessed her love to him. One he shared for her, and he couldn't even say anything. Maybe he was just stunned.
Suddenly she reached for his hand and intertwined their fingers, turning to look at him. He smiled and grabbed the side of her jaw so gently.
"I'm so in love with you too." She smiled with a small giggle and leaned in to kiss him, pulling away faster than Fred would have liked.
"WeasleBottom." She said suddenly, catching him completely off guard.
"What?"
"That's the password. It's a mixture of the last names of our crushes. Pretty cheesy huh?" He shook his head with a laugh.
"I think it's pretty flattering." He pulled her in for another kiss. "You getting why I wanted to learn about muggle stuff now?"
"For me?" She smiled with her hand over her heart.
"Of course for you."
*Anything for her.*

Round 1A
Holyfield v Tyson II: Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson were already two of the biggest names in boxing when they faced off for the first time in 1996, but it was their rematch the following year that would etch them in pop culture history. The fight began in Holyfield's favor, but an accidental headbutt resulting in a laceration above Tyson's eye would enrage the latter and spur him into unconventional and unsanctioned violence in the ring. With less than a minute remaining in the third round and Holyfield looking poised to take it, Tyson rolled his head above Holyfield's shoulder and bit him on the ear. Hard. Despite what the jokes of the time may have led you to believe, he did not rip the other man's ear off completely... but he did spit bloody chunks and a one-inch piece of cartilage on the floor. If you can believe it, the fight still went on with Tyson penalized, and he would then bite Holyfield's other ear in a subsequent round. The second bite was less severe, but this repeat offense was grounds for Tyson to be disqualified and have his boxing license revoked. (It would be reinstated in 1998.) The match would go on to live in infamy and overshadow the careers of both men.
...I've done it again, haven't I? Sorry, didn't mean to chew your ear off there. So how's work?
Crayola Mini-Stampers: Space: Alright, cards on the table... Crayola Mini-Stampers were a cute and terribly nostalgic product of the 90s, but they almost definitely pre-date 1997. Holiday Card Project 2019
Oh would you look at that; I’m participating in the deviantArt Holiday Card Project again this year! Just like last year, my crafty efforts aren’t really done proper justice by scans or photos, so I’ll be uploading a short video...somewhere (probably Instagram but we’ll see) and then link back to it to hopefully show it off a bit more. It’s funny though, I’d almost forgotten about HCP until I got the notification that it had opened for this year. And yet I was so concerned about having it in the mail on time that I got this one done pretty much in one day. I think last year's card took me closer to 2 days and I was pushing my luck that it would get there in time. My process for this year went as follows: I browsed around on Pinterest for a while, as I hadn’t the foggiest idea what to do. During that process, I latched onto a concept I saw a few times; Christmas lights and the phrase “merry and bright,” and so I went with that. Already I had the idea of the lights being across the top of the card, with a real piece of thread (which would later be changed to wire as the idea occurred to me while I was digging for some other supplies) connecting them. After some thought, I decided I wanted to add some cotton to the bottom to add a little more pizzazz. Because if last year’s HCP taught me anything, it’s that I like to go big or go home for the occasion. And I knew where I could get some too; the fields next to the house have already been picked for this year, but there was still a good amount of cotton leftover on the stalks near the edges. Let me tell you, I have a newfound appreciation for whoever invented a mechanical way to take the seeds out of cotton, because gosh darn it if that process is not far more tiresome than you’d think! I think I finally did manage to get them all out, but now I know why it’s probably just easier to buy cotton or polyester fiberfill. XD Anyway. With my mind made up and a handle full of cotton at the ready, I started on the actual card part. In the past, for my card needs I’ve usually used some of the pre-folded & cut cards my mom has on hand, but this time I didn’t feel like bothering her about it. So instead I grabbed a piece of my gold-shimmer cardstock and cut it down so that once I folded it I’d have a 5” x 7” card. (As that’s what Google told me was a fairly common size for greeting cards and would fit comfortably in most standard envelopes.) Then I used my trick from my book-making endeavors of using the edge of scissors to “score” the folding line on one side of the card to make that process easier. In trying to make some stamps I didn’t end up using magically appear from whoever they were hiding, I found some metallic gold stripey paper in my stash and had the idea to cover the outside of the card with it, maybe. At the time I was a little bit skeptical if I wanted to do that, but I pulled it out and set it on the desk anyway so I could have the option if I wanted it. And as you can see, I ended up deciding to go for it, though at this point in the process I simply measured out and cut it as needed; I wouldn’t attach it until later. Then I paused and used the scrap cardstock pieces to test some pens and such, only to find I was only minimally (at best) interested in using any of them. I had some ideas to incorporate certain things but they were things I couldn’t really try out until I had more of the card finished, and some things I couldn’t figure out solutions for until then either. So I swatched out some marker colors and started practicing on some print outs of the Christmas light shape—which is fortunately had the foresight to do the said printing out before I got into the thick of everything else—only to find that I just really was not happy with the blends I was getting. I think the main problem is that I just didn’t have certain colors I needed, but the glowing/fade effect I was trying to get was also totally new territory for me and I seemed to only get worse the more times I tried it. In the end, I picked out a “base” shade for each Christmas light color from the markers and then selected a dark, a “true color” and a highlight from my Prismacolor pencils to do the shading instead. There were still challenges to be had, but this system worked a lot better for me. Benefits of being a mixed media artist: if one medium just isn’t doing it for you, you can bring in others to level the playing field The lights then got bright shine spots courtesy of my white Gelly roll pen and their little silver bits I did with a silver Art Philosophy watercolor. Even though I was already anticipating the silver getting kind of lost against the gold in the background. I had a vision and I was sticking to it. In addition to that vision, once the lights were safe to handle I glued them to a piece of foam and then left them alone to dry, figuring it would be easier and simpler to cut them out if I only had to do it once. As such, the edges aren’t super smooth, but otherwise, I think that was the right call. While they dried, I then attached the gold-stripe paper to the card surface and started thinking about where and how I would implement the text parts of the card. (And at some point I took a break to figure out the full inside and outside please, as originally all I was going on was “merry and bright,” though I don’t remember when exactly in the process that was.) Here, I had the idea that black paper might look cool. The only black paper I have is a pad of Crayola stuff that I think is actually for practicing calligraphy or hand lettering or something? My original plan was to take one of the pages out and use the blank back, but as I filled through I saw some of the cut out frame-y things and took a look to see if any of them would work for what I wanted/needed, and you can see the two I picked out. Though the one on the inside of the card had only the black and gray/silver originally; the colors I added by hand with my gel pens since it felt like it really needed it. The black paper on the inside also needed a little more attention than the one on the outside. I didn’t cut either of them perfectly straight, but there were a lot more distracting elements that were going to be on the outside, so it was far less noticeable there. On the inside, I ended up going around the edge with some gold and white washi tape that when well with the outside of the card to camouflage the uneven edges. By the time I had all the various papers properly attached to each other and the top edge inside of the card decorated with a strip of glitter tape and a repeating stamp of Christmas lights to tie in with the outside, I felt the lights were dry enough to cut out, so I did. And that meant that the /real/ card assembly could begin. I punched little holes in the tops of the lights for the wire I’d add in later and then fiddled with their placement for a bit before gluing them down...which I then I had to wait for about twenty minutes before I could proceed if I wanted things to dry mostly flat. So while that took its sweet time to dry I went back to the Crayola black paper pad to one of the pages with a grid on it to practice writing out the words for both the outside and inside of the card. In doing so, I discovered that the uni-ball Signo white pen, while bolder and brighter than the Gelly roll, made my cursive almost illegible by virtue of having a thicker tip. Which is why I went with the Gelly roll instead. Just printed handwriting didn’t feel right; I really wanted the fancier look of the cursive. However, I also wanted whoever gets the card to actually be able to read it too. Eventually, the lights, while not fully dry, were dry enough that I could comfortably move on with the assembly. And hindsight, perhaps I should’ve tried stringing the lights onto the wire before gluing them down. The main issue I had was that once I got the wire poked through the hole, it’d bump into the card on the other side and then not want to go anywhere at all. I had to play with it each time to get the wire to come all the way through so I could pull it to the next one. Or maybe that would’ve made the gluing process more difficult than it was worth? We’ll never know. And then I got to attach the cotton. That actually ended up being a much smoother process than I anticipated, as the cotton doesn’t really separate from itself unless you pull it apart, so once I had parts of a clump glued down they were pretty stationary. This was also the first time I dared use my crafting heat gun since I purchased it (which was a while ago; after reading the warnings the first time I’ve been too chicken to use it for fear of catching something on fire by accident ) as I originally thought I’d need more glue and I’d need to glue some clumps on, dry them, and then glue some more. Fortunately, I seemingly put my big girl panties on for nothing as, after the initial layer of glue, I really only needed to glue a couple of other clumps down separately, and as I mentioned the cotton stick to the wet glue well enough on its own. But I had psyched myself up and gotten the thing set up, so once all the cotton was glued down I used the heat gun to dry the glue faster anyway. I was amped up the whole time but I, fortunately, did not burn anything in the process! I did end up going back and adding some blue gel pen to the black paper on the inside, as that was the only color not there and it felt sorely lacking, giving the lights elsewhere on the card. But other than that, once the cotton was all squared away, the card was done. And I’ll be honest; I still like the card I made last year, but I think I’ve really outdone myself this time. There’s just something about the style of this card I enjoy so much more.
It’s equally over-the-top (as is my crafting specialty ) but it’s more refined, somehow, I think. Either way, all that’s left to do now is mail it off and hope that the recipient is as pleased with the card as I am. I can’t believe I’ve actually finished with it this early though! That’s so unlike me; I’m usually the one sneaking things in right on top of the deadline. But hey that means now I have one less thing on my to-do list so I can focus on other things...which may or may not include a holiday-themed kitty drawing in the works... ____ Artwork © me, MysticSparkleWings ____ Where to find me & my artwork: My Website | Commission Info + Prices | Ko-Fi | dA Print Shop | RedBubble | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram
