Today I’m trying to make some custom diy wealth attractor candles for personal use. I cleansed the candles down with holy water and carved Venusian Sigils in them, then brushed them down, so no pesky wax shavings lingered. Now I’m just painting them gold.

Sure, I could buy gold candles, but I’ve always wanted gold candles with green wax underneath. Also I hate the way the gold paint flakes off when trying to carve them, so pre-carving these before painting them, gets rid of all of my pet peeves.

i think we need like, phenomenology of any kind of media consumption? the “quick dopamine hit” is useful for understanding things, sure, but we need to balance that with our need to attempt new things.

for me, it goes:

consume a specific piece of media (as asked by someone/discovered)

find related media and situate them according to 1 (this is the bit that social media usually exploits)

once done situating, most of us still end up consuming and consuming related media, because we’ve kind of automated the “finding of/reaching to” things, which is usually the most arduous part of many tasks. think: how long it takes to get somewhere, how long it takes to find relevant things

at that point, you can do two things: move on from the genre. or be the one making works in whatever genre you’ve found yourself in (creating fanworks/thematic or theorising meta, or researchwork if you’re talking academia); it helps in situating yourself better, which is the productive part of engaging with anything. it helps you learn more about it, instead of just looking at similar things.

there’s also a third secret thing, which is being forced to consume more media on the point while paying attention to the minute details, which is the bit i hate, but usually happens because it’s easier to check than the loftier things. sorry and thank you

that’s usually how it goes for me. this i’ve seen applies to EVERYTHING: cultural norms, researchwork, art/media, most things social, beyond just actual physical navigation

there’s a lot of jealousy for artists that comes from class or wealth concerns, which is obvious, like whenever someone says “wow i wish i could make dogshit paintings like that and still live” they aren’t necessarily expressing a desire to make dogshit paintings (or any paintings) but a desire for wealth. for me though, while i do get this kind of jealousy on rare occasions, the actual jealousy i get crazy style from artists is when they have a jacquard machine because if i had a jacquard machine i would also give up my entire life to tirelessly produce ridiculously beautiful textiles to sell for thousands of dollars, and they would be so beautiful, and i would spend hours just admiring how awesome my textiles are

I think fallout 4's thesis is on humanity - what is it, who is it, why is it? there is also the theme of violence against humanity - especailly medical violence - but the game refuses to ask questions deeper than "are synths human?" while tossing aside, mutants, robots, and some of the wasteland creatures. I think there was a lot left out because time and money, but i think it would have been cool if they were critical of the "static culture", at least more than travis talk about how magnolia is still alive.
