President Joe Biden’s defenders have been on a wild ride this past year. It began with them arguing that the president knew absolutely nothing about his family’s influence-peddling business to arguing that it’s no big deal that Chinese communist wire payoffs happen to have Biden’s home address listed on them.
The quality of the excuses, unsurprisingly, has been deteriorating rapidly.
They largely entail repeating the words “no” and “evidence” in a perpetual loop. But, this week, when Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., released financial records of Hunter Biden receiving two wire transfers totaling $260,000 in 2019 from Beijing with the president’s Delaware home listed as the beneficiary address, the White House jumped into action.
“Imagine them arguing that, if someone stayed at their parents’ house during the pandemic, listed it as their permanent address for work, and got a paycheck, the parents somehow also worked for the employer,” wrote White House spokesman Ian Sams. “It’s bananas. Yet this is what extreme House Republicans have sunken to.”
Speaking of bananas, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the United States wasn’t reported until January 2020, and shutdowns were still a year away when Hunter Biden used his dad’s house as a beneficiary address on a wire payment. According to Hunter’s own memoir, he was living in Los Angeles with his new wife at the time.
Of course, even if the pandemic had been raging by summer 2019, Hunter Biden wasn’t a college student visiting home. He was a 49-year-old who had the wherewithal to craft numerous international million-dollar deals—not to mention allegedly evade taxes, buy firearms illegally, and score crack and prostitutes.
Why would Hunter need to stay at Daddy’s house? Why do they keep talking about this grown man as if he were a toddler? For God’s sake, this is an accomplished artist whose work goes for upwards of a million dollars.
And it wasn’t a “paycheck,” but a wire transfer from a Chicom investment firm that his father repeatedly lied about to the American people.
In an October 2019 presidential debate, Joe Biden incredulously claimed that Hunter never benefited from Chinese interests: “My son has not made money in terms of this thing about, what are you talking about, China.” It was weird, even then, that Biden could make such an assertion with confidence, considering that not long before he had claimed to “never” have spoken to Hunter about his “overseas business dealings.”
Perhaps one day the president will be asked by the political media why he made this claim, and whether he knew his address was being used on Biden Inc. paperwork at the time. And while they’re at it, they could ask him whether he was at his Wilmington house in 2017 when his son threatened his Chinese partner, Henry Zhao, with the words, “I am sitting here with my father.”
Let’s also remember that not only did Joe Biden fly his son to Beijing aboard Air Force Two during an official visit in 2013 to meet with potential investors, but the vice president met Jonathan Li, whose name is on the 2019 wire transfer, for coffee. The two would talk again on the phone—probably just some “casual conversations” or “niceties about the weather.” Joe was even kind enough to write college recommendation letters for his son and daughter.
It’s a really weird coincidence that the same guy happens to have Joe Biden’s address on a wire transfer. A cynic might start to piece together these stories and come to the conclusion that there’s actually plenty of evidence the president had created the “illusion” of access to the White House on his son’s behalf—at the very least, enriching his entire family.

Mystical Shaman Oracle Cards Mystical Shaman Oracle Cards Cards – March 27, 2018 by Alberto Villoldo (Author), Colette Baron-Reid (Author), Marcela Lobos (Contributor) --Brand New-- Legends say that before there was time, before there was language, there were the sacred symbols. The Medicine Wheel, the Curse, the Eagle, the Jaguar, and others spoke to us intimately. In their countless manifestations, they offered hope, expressed caution, illuminated opportunity, inspired creation, courted power, and shared knowledge. The sacred symbols belong to the realm of archetypes and the collective unconscious, the spiritual common ground shared by peoples modern and ancient. Now, three master teachers and healers—Alberto Villoldo, Colette Baron-Reid, and Marcela Lobos—have brought their wisdom and talents together to offer a doorway into the realm of the sacred symbols with the Mystical Shaman Oracle. When you consult the oracle, you summon power and insight that can help you understand the present, heal the past, and influence the course of your future. We can become our own prophets and visionaries. We can converse directly with Spirit, dialogue with the forces of nature, speak with the great archetypes—the ancient gods—without intermediaries. No one needs to stand between the Creator and you, or between you and the great powers of nature. About the Author Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D., has trained as a psychologist and medical anthropologist, and has practiced yoga for more than 25 years. He has traveled to the source of India's holy rivers in the Himalayas to rediscover the wisdom of the Sadhu, India's ancient shamans. Artist Research #6
Artists: John Willis
Name: "Recycled realities" (2006)
Date: 2006
Size: 9 x 11 inches
Medium: photography
Published in 2006 by Center for American Places, inc. Santa Fe, New Mexico 87502, USA.
John Willis received his RI master of fine arts degree in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1984. John began his professional career as a professor in the same college. Later on, he continued teaching photography in various schools like Harvard University. John has supported the world of photography significantly, and a clear example of that is his act as co-founder of the In-sight Photography Project (an organization that offers free photography courses). A few of John's standout works include "Recycled Realities: Views From the Reservation," "Views from the Reservation," "Mni Wiconi - Water Is Life: Honoring the Water Protectors at Standing Rock and Everywhere in the Ongoing Struggle for Indigenous Sovereignty," and "Aging in White."
Awards:
Some of his important awards include the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial, Foundation Fellowship in Photography (2011), and 2019 Gold Medal for Best Regional Book from Foreword Indies with work "Mini Wiconi: Water is Life; Honoring the Water Protectors at Standing Rock and Everywhere in the Ongoing Struggle for Indigenous Sovereignty" and Open Society Institute Community Engagement Grant.
Physical description of the work:
The book has a hard cover to ensure durability. It is approximately 9 x 11 inches, and the cover design features related to the theme. The interior consists of high-quality photographs printed on thick Glossy paper. The layout balances images accompanying them with text. Overall, it is a well-crafted, visually appealing book with a messy but intriguing cover and black color.
I was carried away by appearances when choosing this book. When I saw this black book with an intriguing cover, I thought it could be a good selection. After reading a little of the content, it was confusing to understand the work, but it left me with a great reflection on our waste. Since recycling interests me, it got me thinking about the stories on paper, the life they once had, and the life they will have. After all, I liked just seeing the photographs: direct but simultaneously complicated since it was difficult to understand the shapes. Somehow, it was nice watching trash transform into something aesthetic and pleasant.

EC COMICS IS BACK WITH A VENGEANCE – AND ALL–NEW PUBLISHING LINE – AT ONI PRESS
Seventy years after the creation of the Comics Code Authority irrevocably changed the course of comics history, the most infamous, notorious and controversial comic publisher of all time is set to return from the grave in summer 2024…
Oni Press – the multiple Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic fiction for more than 25 years – is proud to announce a brand-new publishing partnership with William M. Gaines Agent, Inc. that will see the full-fledged return of EC Comics to comic shop and bookstore shelves worldwide with a slate of all-new series beginning in the summer of 2024.
Beginning with EPITAPHS FROM THE ABYSS #1 in July and CRUEL UNIVERSE #1 in August – the first official EC Comics series produced in nearly seven decades – Oni’s ambitious EC Comics publishing program will be overseen by Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson and Editor-in-Chief Sierra Hahn in partnership with Cathy Gaines Mifsud and Corey Mifsud, the daughter and grandson of legendary EC Publisher William M. Gaines and administrators of William M. Gaines Agent, Inc.
“As my father said, ‘Only in the bounds of good taste!’ and I’m so excited to exhibit EC's good taste with Oni Press, who have distinguished themselves with both an award-winning library of comics and graphic novels and a passionate understanding of EC’s singular role in shaping comics history,” said Cathy Gaines Mifsud, President of William M. Gaines Agent, Inc.
“EC Comics is no stranger to a good comeback story! We’re thrilled to make this return with Oni Press and usher the classic EC sensibilities into the modern world,” said Corey Mifsud, Executive Director of William M. Gaines Agent, Inc. “It’s always been our dream to one day bring the fearless creative spirit of EC to a new generation. Working hand-in-hand with Oni’s award-winning team and a sensational cast of creators, it’s a pleasure to – at long last – shepherd EC into the 21st century with all-new series and stories.”
Edited by Hahn, Oni’s curated line of EC titles – which will include at least two series on a monthly basis from July 2024 onward in the genres of horror, science fiction, fantasy, and more – will feature contributions from a rotating cast of high-profile comics talents that includes writers Jason Aaron (Thor, Southern Bastards), Brian Azzarello (Batman: Damned, 100 Bullets), Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia), Corinna Bechko (Invisible Republic), Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun), Christopher Cantwell (Briar), Cecil Castellucci (Shade the Changing Girl), Chris Condon (That Texas Blood), Joshua Hale Fialkov (The Bunker), J. Holtham (AMC’s The Handmaid’s Tale), Jeff Jensen (HBO’s Watchmen, Green River Killer), Matt Kindt (BRZRKR, Mind MGMT), Sean Lewis (King Spawn), Stephanie Phillips (Grim), Jay Stephens (Dwellings), Zac Thompson (Cemetery Kids Don’t Die), Ben H. Winters (CBS’ Tracker), and more; artists Kano (Gotham Central, Immortal Iron Fist), Peter Krause (Irredeemable), Leomacs (Rogues), Malachi Ward (Black Hammer: The End), Dustin Weaver (Avengers, Paklis), and more; designer Rian Hughes (The Multiversity); alongside covers from Lee Bermejo (A Vicious Circle, Batman: Damned), Greg Smallwood (The Human Target), J.H. Williams III (Sandman: Overture, Promethea), and more to be revealed in the weeks and months ahead.
“Seventy years ago, EC Comics redefined what comics could be with shocking, confrontational and brilliantly crafted stories that challenged the existential issues at the center of American life – censorship, racism, sexism, nuclear proliferation, and more. Today, those battles continue in alarming and pernicious new ways,” said Oni Press Editor-in-Chief, Sierra Hahn. “What better time to resurrect the undying spirit of EC Comics – one of the most entertaining, subversive, and influential publishers of all time – with an all-star cast of storytellers to examine today’s society through the lens that William Gaines and his legendary collaborators have left us.”
Founded by M.C. "Max" Gaines – often cited as one of the original creators of the comic book format – as “Educational Comics” in 1944, EC spearheaded a watershed evolution in the craft, quality, and power of the comics medium under Max's son, William M. Gaines, following the elder Gaines’ sudden death in 1947. Rechristening his father’s creation as “Entertaining Comics,” publisher, editor, and writer William M. Gaines recruited one of the most legendary creative stables in the history of the comics medium – including future Eisner Hall of Fame inductees Johnny Craig, Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, Al Feldstein, Frank Frazetta, Harvey Kurtzman, Joe Orlando, John Severin, Marie Severin, Al Williamson, Wally Wood, and many more – to oversee the creation of a revolutionary slate of new series that would soon grow to include TALES FROM THE CRYPT, MAD MAGAZINE, WEIRD SCIENCE, TWO-FISTED TALES, and more.
Widely celebrated for fearlessly confrontational stories that were as creatively innovative as they were culturally subversive – confronting racial and gender inequality, militarism, and environmental degradation in ways that would anticipate both the burgeoning counterculture and Civil Rights movements – EC’s urge to probe the darkness lurking beyond the edges of post-war America though tales of horror, science fiction, humor, and war earned the company millions of readers … and established a new high watermark for one of the first definitively American artforms: the comic book.
However, EC’s reign at the forefront of the American comic book industry – a period during which it eclipsed Marvel, DC, and Archie with sales of 10 million comics per year – would come crashing down in 1954 as an anti-comics moral panic swept America, inspiring book burnings, police surveillance, and a Congressional investigation that would see William M. Gaines’ testimony broadcast live in households across the country. This pro-censorship movement soon culminated in the creation of the Comics Code Authority, a sanitizing regulatory group whose guidelines were specifically tailored to remove EC’s comics from newsstands. EC’s final comics – until now – were published in 1956, and the hugely popular MAD was re-formatted as a magazine to escape Code scrutiny. Even so, the untimely death of EC could not erase the company’s far-reaching impact, having already inspired a young generation of readers – including John Carpenter, Guillermo del Toro, Matt Groening, James Gunn, George Lucas, Stephen King, George R.R. Martin, The Ramones, George Romero, Steven Spielberg, and hundreds more – who have cited EC’s iconoclastic brand of storytelling as a deep and primordial influence.
“There are few things more sacred to the canon of comic book history – and global pop culture – than EC Comics. The company’s audaciously inspired sensibilities have continuously echoed through nearly all facets of entertainment – like pieces of shrapnel embedded in American imagination,” said Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson. “It’s both a huge honor and immense responsibility to be entrusted to work alongside the Gaines family in inhabiting EC’s indomitable spirit for a new generation. At a moment when we find ourselves confronting the same reactionary forces – injustice, inequality, and of course, censorship – that EC challenged head-on, we intend to write a new and powerful chapter that honors and expands one of the most important legacies the comic book medium has ever produced.”
Oni Press’ first two new EC titles – EPITAPHS FROM THE ABYSS and CRUEL UNIVERSE, a pair of horror and science anthologies in the classic EC mold – will debut in July and August 2024, respectively, before the publisher introduces more series in genres and formats that will expand the scope and scale of the EC publishing line in ways never before attempted.

Femslash fic tournament: Round 1.2
we're nothing more than dust jackets Ship: Emma Swan/Regina Mills Fandom: Once Upon a Time Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/8741284/chapters/20040229 Summary: A queen takes her revenge, a savior is hidden away, and a dark curse is cast. You’ve read this story a dozen times. But this time, Regina Mills wakes up with a book titled Emma, and Emma Swan is found wrapped in a baby blanket with her tiny fingers wrapped around a book titled Regina. As time passes, their counterpart’s story unfolds within the books; and for twenty-eight years, the two follow each other's lives from afar until the day a little boy runs away from home to find his birth mother...
A really, really creative rendition on the soulmate AU that ties in seamlessly with the show's lore. I read this shortly after it was first published seven years ago, and it's to this day one of the most memorable Swan Queen fics I've ever read.
Living in a Crazy Parallel Ship: Kaede Akumatsu/Miu Iruma, Mikan Tsumuki/Junko Enoshima, Sayaka Maizono/Mukuro Ikubasa Fandom: Danganrompa Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/27551896/chapters/67387750 Summary: "Wow, another attempt at giving us another AU where we have a peaceful school life? That's plainly unoriginal."
"Kokichi, just what the hell is she saying?"
"Ignore her, Kaito, Tsumugi's doing the thing where she pretends she's breaking the Fourth Wall."
Kaede is trapped under the weight of her responsibilities.
Mukuro can't move forward while the past has a hold of her.
Mikan is shown how to value herself from an unlikely source.
Sayaka can't decide if she should follow her heart, or stay the course.
But they're all strong enough to find the answers they need. Eventually.
What’s better than one Femslash pairing? THREE FEMSLASH PAIRINGS! EVEN (some) OF THE BACKGROUND SHIPS ARE FEMSLASH! But the main focus is three relationships- and the POV changes with the chapters. It is a no killing game au (Danganronpa specific) But the fic writer has crafted it in a way that I don’t feel even a bit bored reading it. The only unfortunate is it’s unfinished but I’m of the weird category that I love unfinished fics (and I’ll wait forever for them to update- if they do then it’s a blessing and if they don’t then I’ll just keep rereading the unfinished fic 😅)
Meet Me When You're Going Ship: Stephanie Brown/Cassandra Cain Fandom: Batman Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/16491353/chapters/38622746 Summary: When things get complicated in Hong Kong, Cass requests help from Batman Inc. Unbeknownst to her, Bruce dispatches not one of her brothers, but Stephanie Brown, who Cass has not spoken to since she gave up the Batgirl mantle.
Steph is eager to reunite with her best friend, but things between them are complicated. Not the least of the problems is the fact that Steph might be falling in love… but of course, Cass is straight, so Steph really shouldn’t dwell on that.
Friendship and romance, conspiracy and adventure await the two of them as they try to unravel a complicated plot that seeks to stop Batman Incorporated before it can truly begin.

Writers Group Responsible for First Game Industry Writer's Strike Fund New LGBTQ+ Anthology
VOW Together, a group of writers of marginalized genders and identities, best known for staging the first successful writers' strike in the video game industry, has funded a new project on Kickstarter. The project Longsummer Nights is a paranormal romance anthology set in a shared urban fantasy universe.
VOW Together launched the Kickstarter campaign earlier this month and reached its $5,000 goal in hours. At the time of writing, the digital-only anthology has reached $12,000 from 240 backers.
VOW Together describes Longsummer Nights:
They say the big city is where you go to be someone else. For some, Longsummer is where they go to be themselves. The lesser-known jewel of the Gulf Coast has been home to a secret world for centuries, and the only thing more colorful than its past is its present. At night, demons ride the streetcars. Fae stroll the moonlit canals. Vampires lurk in smoky jazz clubs and seedy hotels. Ghosts haunt the Mansard roofs and poison gardens of Belle Reve, and creatures of ancient terror bask under the Spanish moss. In the rich, perfumed heat, passions can rise to a fever pitch. So lie back and breathe. If you feel lightheaded, that means its spell is working.
But beware the masquerade, the unspoken agreement that supernatural beings must hide their true nature. Though humans and supernatural beings mingle in some neighborhoods, they maintain a delicate dance of denial, and missteps can be fatal. Despite this, the city has a way of bringing lovers together across boundaries - with magical results. Some humans are swept away by the promise of an extraordinary life. Some immortals’ curiosity blooms into desire. Other supernatural beings gravitate to one other, taking comfort in the kinship of someone who truly understands. The course of love may not always run smooth, but one thing’s for certain: in Longsummer, it conquers all.
The LGBTQ+ anthology will be released to all backers in February 2021. A short story from the anthology, "Seeds of Solace," will also be released to all $5 and up backers in November. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing challenges in the publishing industry, the anthology will only be released digitally.
VOW Together describes itself as a group of writers from marginalized gender identities with extensive experience crafting romances. The group was formed from writers contracted to write for Voltage Inc.'s Lovestruck visual novel platform app. VOW staged the gaming industry's first successful writer's strike in 2020, negotiating better pay and conditions for their work on Lovestruck. The modern group contains "several" of its members that have moved forward and are no longer affiliated with Voltage.
You can support LongSummer Nights on Kickstarter until November 1.

Edit: Corrected the release date of the anthology and short story.

Baseball, like so many outdoor events, has largely remained out of reach for many, in part because of the global pandemic. But in light of improvements in health and hospitalizations around the country, mandates are easing. The result is a fragile return to normalcy, and that means Major League Baseball is back at T-Mobile Park. And with the return of baseball to T-Mobile Park comes another year of optimism the Seattle Mariners will make the playoffs, possibly the World Series, and of course, food & drink at the ballpark.

Small Business at Home – How to Start and Things To Consider
New Post has been published on https://walrusvideo.com/small-business-at-home-how-to-start-and-things-to-consider/
Small Business at Home – How to Start and Things To Consider
Home business ideas that let you work from home
Working from home is a great benefit for many people, but what is the best online business to start today? Sometimes a person is a stay-at-home dad who wants to earn money on the side for his or her family. Other times, a person enjoys the convenience of working from home. One way to accomplish the dream of working from your residence is to begin an internet business. This checklist of the very best online organizations to begin in 2021 are some ideas, to begin with.
Not all ideas will work for everyone because your target market is different. To get the most out of your investment, you should tailor your strategy to your audience. Let’s say you work in the furniture, HVAC or home improvement industries. Real estate offices are perfect for reaching property owners who are in the market for your services. On the other hand, daycare centres and entertainment-oriented businesses make sense if you sell products for families and children. Hair and nail salons or spas are ideal for appealing to a wide female audience.
Not all home-based jobs are done sitting at a computer or in a garage turned workshop. If you’re even more of a go-getter, don’t stress; there are plenty of home business concepts that require you to be on your feet.
Find a home business idea that suits you best
If you’re ready to invest time and maybe some money to build a high-paying, career-level business, here are our favorite ideas: Proofreading. Earn up to $30/hour or more proofreading and help writers and editors get their writing clean and professional. No degree is required, and there are plenty of opportunities to freelance from home. Proofread anywhere is an online course that offers a free introductory proofreading workshop to find out if you have the skills to become a proofreader. The good news is that these workshops are on-demand, so register now for free.
Income and deductions for businesses
Cost deductions will lower your effective tax rate. Since that would be detrimental, you don’t want to take on excess expenses. Business owners can subtract things like car payments, cell phone expenses, web use, travel, meals and more. Below is an example of how a company owner can significantly decrease their taxable income. Related: How to pay little or no taxes for the rest of your life.
Many Americans, from high school and college students to senior citizens, make additional earnings through freelance writing. Composing blog site posts if you have a flair for words and web copy is an easy and fun way to supplement your full-time income. If you want to become a freelance writer, follow these steps:
Create a home-based business. First things first: you’ll need a professional set-up to help you with acquisitions and writing, and not get in the way. If you don’t currently have one, set up a home office – from a guest room to the corner of your living room – with a comfortable chair, a spacious desk, adequate lighting and storage space for papers. Buy a reliable laptop with a serious word processor like Microsoft Word and video chat capabilities via Skype or a cloud-based phone system.
What should I name my online store?
If you love fashion and want to share your sense of style online, you can consider opening your own online fashion boutique. You don’t have to become a fashion designer either – you can curate items from other sellers in your own online store (using the dropshipping model we’ve already discussed). From dresses, shoes, swimwear, devices, and more, you can use one of the many product sourcing apps for Shopify to build your own fashion brand, design it in your own product pictures and social media posts, and construct an online following as an innovator.
An online store is much cheaper compared to brick-and-mortar stores, as there is no physical location to rent and maintain. You can reach a bigger audience by utilizing SEO practices and effective branding. Remember that 87% of shoppers begin their product research online.
It’s fantastic to connect with your consumers online, but in some cases, it’s great to see them in person too! Hosting an event can take many different forms. Maybe it’s a champagne and canapé soiree at your store to celebrate the launch of a new product line. Maybe it’s a Q&A session with a respected thought leader in your field that your customers would like to meet. In either case, this is an exciting way to meet your brand’s loyalists and have the opportunity to make a strong, positive impression.
What a home-based business is
The opinions expressed by business owners are their own. There are approximately 18 million home-based businesses in the United States. But about 60 per cent of them are putting the future of their businesses at risk – and most of them don’t even know it. Most of them don’t even know it. These home-based business owners do not have adequate insurance coverage for their businesses, according to Independent Insurance Agents of America Inc. (iiaa), a trade group based in Alexandria, Virginia.
Here’s a list of businesses that can make it big in 2020. From New York to San Francisco, home-based businesses to local businesses, you don’t necessarily need a bachelor’s degree to succeed. Just take a profitable idea, open a bank account, and watch the money roll in. All you need is good prior work experience, a solid, well-thought-out business plan, and a lot of focus and determination.
Small is beautiful. Slow and steady wins the race. Inch by inch, row by row, that’s how my garden grows. While this wisdom is fine for the common folk, it can be terribly frustrating for an ambitious home-based entrepreneur who wants to take his or her business to the next level of growth and success. Sure, a flourishing one or two-person service business without any stock, lease or employees can appear like an easy way to generate income initially, but when the phone is ringing off the hook and the customers keep coming, home business owners who fail to plan often become victims of their own success. Either they get burned out trying to manage whatever themselves or they invest so much money and time working with individuals to help them that their revenues go down the drain.
Type of business structure
Proper planning is critical when starting a new home construction business or any other business. Define the exact steps to start a home building business, set realistic goals, and decide on the time frame and resources you need to achieve your goals. A solid business plan should cover every aspect of running your construction business, from market research to financial projections to building permits. Determine your customers, the types of jobs you will bid on, how you will structure your business and how many employees you will need.
There are many types of insurance policies available for craft businesses. These include:
Ancillary Business Insurance: this policy attaches to your homeowners’ policy and covers structures or equipment within your home that you use for your business. It can be personalized to include liability coverage as well!
Entrepreneur Business Package Policy (BOP): This is a choice for small to mid-sized companies and offers home and liability protection in one efficient package

The Boy Who Cried Magic by Andi Gladwin - A Review
This is the Ad Copy:
After spending a decade producing more than 100 magic books for some of the biggest magicians in the industry, Andi Gladwin is finally releasing his own book. And it is quite possibly the most highly-anticipated book of the year!
While Andi has released numerous effects and many popular lectures, this is the first time he has ever compiled his very best card magic routines into one comprehensive magic book. Each of the 16 full routines and 15 sleights featured in this book have been carefully crafted over a lifetime of performing for every type of audience in every type of venue.
There is something for every card magician in this incredible book from Andi's amazing rapid-fire multiple selection routine known as "Fireworks" to his powerful thought-of cards across, super commercial "Whack your Phone Effect" and even a practical Triumph routine where the audience helps you mix the cards.
There's also, of course, plenty of material for the most dedicated sleight of hand card magicians, including 15 techniques such as his full work on the Master Pushoff, new moves such as the UnDo Cut and UnDo Shuffle, and a unique take on the Braue Popup that you're going to want to add directly into your Ambitious Card routine.
Beyond its remarkable contents, The Boy Who Cried Magic is quite possibly the most beautiful book Vanishing Inc. has ever produced. This breathtaking hardback book features 250 pages and 240 full color photos, all printed on premium glossy paper. The addition of a gorgeous slipcase will make this book stand out on your shelf.
"The Boy Who Cried Magic is a perfect magic book, written by the best writer in magic. The tricks are world-class performance pieces, and the book itself is stunning. Every magician should own it!" - Dynamo
"The Boy Who Cried Magic is one of the most beautifully-designed magic books in recent memory. It looks and feels like something you'd find in an art bookstore. As for the magic, Andi Gladwin's Undo Cut is a highly deceptive false cut that is going straight into my act." - Steve Cohen
My Thoughts:
The Boy Who Cried Magic is Andi Gladwin's first book of magic. It must be quite a challenge to be in Andi's shoes and know your first publication sets a bar at such an impossible height. I don't know if he is considering a second book, but personally, I'd have to set a spell and soak in all the wonderful reviews of my first one.
This was a much-anticipated publication by a highly respected performer.. and it met all the expectations. Everything from the effects, to the cover, binding, pages, super sharp photos and slip cover coalesced to create a masterful product.
The book features 16 complete effects/routines and 15 sleights in a total of 250 glossy pages. ( I constantly felt as if I were turning two pages..) The 240 color pictures by James Went and George Luck jump off the pages.. creating a complete visual to match Andi's narrative. I could go on and on about the book.. but I think you get the point.. There are absolutely no cut corners and no expenses spared publishing Andi's first book. As the publisher of over one hundred books and ebooks for other magicians, Andi knew exactly what he wanted.. and how to achieve it.
The first chapter of TBWCM is a treatise titled Making Magic Bulletproof. It is an essay of thoughts and tips from the author.. detailing Be Clear, Remove Abruptness, Be Authentic, Be Adaptable, Create Conversation and Adapt To It, Overlap Methods and, lastly.. Study. These are strong thoughts from a full-time professional.
The effects are Andi's. These are effects he uses throughout his performances and are corralled through hundreds of performances over twenty plus years. These are not add-ons or submissions from other performers. These are all directly from his repertoire. To quote: "My repertoire didn't appear overnight. It's impossible to see when you look at the finished product, but every effect in this book has gone through dozens of late-night sessions and incremental improvements. I lost hair over these tricks."
Andi's book is all about card tricks, moves, and effects. No close-up, no coins, no thump tips.. and one cell phone. These effects are not beginner effects, and anyone purchasing this book who doesn't possess at least a good, basic knowledge of cardmanship will probably be lost after the first effect. Everything is not super-complicated.. but it's not beginner magic either. Andi takes a great deal of time to explain several of the sleights he uses, giving everyone ample opportunity to follow.. exactly as Andi would have it. He never tries to get ahead of readers.
Undo Cut, Undo Shuffle and Cull Shuffle Control are all good examples of some of the sleights taught. Cut, Stop, Shuffle, Red/Black To The Future, and Castle Jacks are all some of the 'At the Card Table' effects. Whack Your Phone, Monte Python, and Pocket Mule are three of my favorite 'Close-Up' card effects. And Silent Movie, Supersonic, and Aura are three of the five 'Stand-Up' card effects taught.
Each effect is detailed. The performance and handling are highlighted, along with any and all credits. Much work was put into describing the history of each effect, its first cousins, and Andi's contribution to its advancement.
I could get into describing the various effects individually.. but I don't think it's going to matter. These are first-class routines, made available to anyone willing to part with fifty bucks. The cost is totally justified in all aspects. One of the effects alone is probably worth the cost of the book. Thought Experiment.. based on Edward G. Brown's ' Twelve Card Thought Transposition', can't be described as an 'effect', but more appropriately a 'study' of what Andi considers to be the 'best structured card trick of all time..'. "One sleight makes a genuinely thought-of card appear to travel across the room and you don't need to know the name of that card."
.. And this is only one of the 16 effects.
If you truly desire to immerse yourself in a tangent and intimate world of card magic, THE BOY WHO CRIED MAGIC is your elixir.
$50.00 .. Available at Murphy's Magic and their Associates..

This is the 3rd installment of what is now becoming an annual tradition. To close out the year here’s a list of all the books I read in 2020, and a review of the top 3 I highly recommend. Keep Reading
Like most things this year the number of books I expected to read vs reality was a bit of a disappointment, but I still got 5 really good reads in that I enjoyed. Here are my top 3: Atomic Habits - Was my favorite book I read this year. I learned so much on the science of habit formation. About 40-50% of our actions on any given day are done out of habit. This book teaches you how to develop good habits & how to break bad ones by making small adjustments, getting 1% better each day. Mastery - was a very indebpth book that felt like I was reading a PHD course on how to master your craft. It’s filled to the brim with strategies of success when nevigating your career. Robert Greene covers topics that are relevant to artist just getting started as well as seasoned artist with years of experienced. Can’t recommend this book enough. How to Win Friends & Influence People - Is a book you’ve probably heard of, I actually avoided this book for years because of it’s title. I thought this book was about “How to buy friends & manipulate people,” but as the old saying goes don’t judge a book by its cover. I was suprised to learn that this book was originally published in 1936 but it’s every bit as relevant today. This is probably one of the best book you could read on leadership & human relations. And if you’re in a position like me where you’re leading people & projects then this is a must read. Honorable Mention: Creativity Inc - Was the most intriging book I read this year, being in the business of creativity this one checked alot of boxes for me. It started out as a history lesson on the inception of computer animation, which evolved into the origin story of what would be the Pixar we know today. Ed Catmull does a masterful job of giving us an inside look on how Pixar develops it’s films as well as how to foster and nurture a creative culture. Definitely required reading for artist in the animation industry.

Blog 10: Submissions
I have really enjoyed this class! If it were not for our community blogs, peer reviews, and Dr. Byrd’s comments, I wouldn’t have grown so much during this course. Reading your blogs and drafts, not only allowed me to follow other methods to write my first short story, it also helped me understand where I fell short in my draft. I really appreciate everyone for taking the time to read my draft and offer their comments as well. I just don’t think I'm ready to submit my story, even after my revisions. I believe that some areas need a serious makeover before I feel confident enough to submit it to a literary journal. I tend to have major anxiety when I’m under the microscope of criticism, only because I don't like to be rejected after I’m happy about my work. I know that rejection is the painful part of the process, so I think I have thick enough skin to take (maybe) a couple of blows, lol.
During my research to find the most suitable journal, I found one that I believe would be a nice fit for my short story: One Story Inc. They are a non-profit journal that accepts all genres of fiction, and offers cash prizes with an entry fee. These guidelines that you need to know before you send your story to One Story:
Submission Periods: January 15th - May 31st | September 8th - November 14th
How do I submit to One Story? We have an automated system for you to send us your work. It will securely send our editors your story and email you a confirmation that it has been received.
Does One Story pay? Yes. One Story pays $500 and 25 contributors copies for First Serial North American rights. All rights will revert to the author following publication.
How soon can I expect to hear about my submission? We do our very best to respond to submissions within 3 months after they are received. If you don’t hear back from us within that time, please be patient! It is our goal to make sure that each submission gets a good read.
The submission does require you to submit a short author bio, write a letter to accompany your submission, and also open a submittable account to publish your work. I plan to focus a lot of my time and energy doing revisions this summer (I may even write an entirely different story and submit them both, since One Story allows for multiple submissions of your work), before I have the courage to contact One Story. My overall plan is to never stop reading, learning, writing and going place to place until I’m accepted into a journal.
* I hope to see everyone's published work one day. Never stop working on your craft until you become published. I too plan to continue working, enough to publish my story and some day develop and own a literary journal. See you soon.

Starting going through the Revised Version of Vogel’s brilliant book “MAN IN THE MUSIC : The Creative Life And Work of Michael Jackson”. Let’s see what’s the difference from the 1st version... #HonorMJ🤩 #MJ4EverInOurHearts♥️
“PREFACE OF THE 2019 VINTAGE EDITION.”
... “The first edition (2011) had a great run, but for years after its publication I was anxious to tweak, revise, and improve it. So I went back to work. Over the years, I had accumulated an enormous library of Jackson-related materials. My Google docs were packed with interviews, notes from the artist, obscure articles, track sheets, session calendars, and other pieces of the puzzle.
In addition to my own work, a wave of new books, documentaries, think pieces, academic articles, and monographs on Jackson were released. Filmmaker Spike Lee directed two critically acclaimed documentaries,”BAD 25” (2012) and “Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off The Wall” (2016). Scholar Susan Fast published an outstanding book-length treatment of the Dangerous Album, as part of Bloomsbury Academic’s popular 33 1/3 series. Forbes journalist Zack O’Malley Greenburg published an insightful book (“Michael Jackson, Inc.”, 2014) on Jackson’s business acumen. Rolling Stone writer Steve Knopper published a compelling new biography (“MJ : The Genius Of Michael Jackson, 2015).
In addition to this new content, musician and journalist Questlove taught a “classic albums” class on Jackson, at New York University. Scholar and author Mark Anthony Neal began offering a regular course on the Artist, at Duke University, titled “Michael Jackson & the Black Perfomance Tradition”. Mean-while, an array of new platforms arose dedicated to exploring his life and work, including “Michael Jackson’s Academic Studies”, “The MJCast”, And “Dancing With The Elephant”. I am grateful to so many fellow Michael Jackson authors, biographers, researchers, and fans for their contributions and insights (their names , too many to list here, are cited on in the Acknowledgments).
“... Not only did many of these individuals talked to me for hours about their time working with Jackson, for the first edition; many also helped with my follow-up questions as I prepared this second edition. This book would not be what it is, without their invaluable stories, insights, notes, session calendars, demos, track sheets, and other important documents. So what’s the difference about this new edition?
First, it contains many more behind-the-scenes details from the studio. From further research and conversations with those who worked closely with Jackson, I was able to fill in a lot of gaps and present a much more accurate timeline in terms of how, when, and where his albums were made. This is perhaps the most important addition. I felt it was critical to make the history as vivid and accurate as possible.
Second, I’ve tried to set the record straight where possible. There is a lot of mythology surrounding the work of Michael Jackson; it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction. I got some things wrong in the first edition, which have been corrected and fleshed out here, based on my most credible sources. Sometimes collaborators tell conflicting stories or remember things differently. In those cases I have either told both sides or gone with what makes the most sense, given the evidence available.
Third, it truly focuses on the music. The first edition was mostly about the music but also included information on Jackson’s short-films and performances. Ultimately, I felt that coverage was too thin, so I decided, for this book, that it would be better to use that space to go more deeply into the music. This book, then, is entirely about the songs and albums – not the short-movies, tours, performances, business dealings, or other activities. If any of these other things are mentioned in the book, it is simply to provide context.
And, fourth, it omits any assessment of posthumously released work. Posthumously albums are notoriously difficult – by nature they can never be what the artist would have created. The 2010 album “Michael” – reviewed in the appendix of the first edition of “Man In The Music” – was particularly challenging because of the controversy surrounding the so-called Cascio tracks – songs submitted by Eddie Cascio and James Porte, shortly after Jackson’s death (three of which appeared on the album). Given the serious questions surrounding the origin and authenticity of the vocals on those tracks, I do not acknowledge or assess them in this book.
More broadly, this book does not review any of Jackson’s work after “Invincible” – the last studio album he saw to completion. The epilogue does mention music he was engaged in, during his final years, but those songs are not explored or assessed; their mention is merely intended to give a sense of what the artist was working on. But the overarching concept of the book remains much the same of the first edition: an album-by-album exploration of Michael Jackson, the Artist.
The goal was to make it all come to life: the historical context, the creative process, the work in the studio, the vitality of the songs.?That last point is important . Sometimes in fixating on the minutiae, the power and meanings of the music are lost. I didn’t want this to be a trivia book, nor did I want to impose my own interpretations too strongly onto his music. That is why I draw from an array of other critics. Ultimately, as with the first edition, I try to present Jackson’s music to the reader with as much curiosity and openness as possible. As historian Carl Van Doren put it : “The measure of the creator is the amount of life he puts into his work. The measure of the critic is the amount of life he finds there.”
The year 2019 marks ten years since Jackson’s death. It was expected to be a celebratory moment , yet that has been complicated, to say the least, with the release of the controversial 2019 HBO “documentary” Leaving Neverland, in which “new” allegations of sexual abuse have been leveled against the artist. Important information, conversations, and context surrounding those allegations are currently being examined and will no doubt continue. I have researched and grappled with them personally. The people I interviewed for this book talked to me for hours, on and off the record, about Jackson. They spoke candidly about his flaws, his virtues, his habits, his struggles. But none gave any indication of the Michael Jackson portrayed in Leaving Neverland. I say that, not as conclusive proof of his innocence but simply to represent the perspectives of my sources.
Given my area of focus – Jackson’s creative work – this book will not attempt to render a verdict on the accusations, for the reader. However, chapter 5 offers an account of the 1993 allegations, since they are contextually important for the HIStory album. The 2005 Trial, in which Jackson was acquitted, is likewise covered in the epilogue.
Whatever one concludes about his personal life, Jackson’s Art will live on, like the work of countless other controversial icons, from... to ... How he is viewed , at least for the foreseeable future, will vary widely from person to person, culture to culture, and, perhaps generation to generation. As James Baldwin observed in 1985, very few figures in modern history have attracted as much polarizing attention. For more than half a century, Jackson has been a lightning rod for questions about: race, gender, sexuality, innocence, guilt, truth, deception, media, fame, childhood, identity, capitalism, Art, and genius . It is a complicated legacy that will, no doubt, take many more books to begin to unpack.
Man In The Music is a historical account of his music and how people have responded to it . It is the story of how a young black boy from Gary, Indiana, honed his craft in a cramped living room, in the wings of stages, in the studios of Motown, and went on to become one of the most influential artists of all times. “
— Joseph Vogel, 2019.
PS. From my point of view, up to the point I’ve read, it’s even better than the first version ! I copied part of the PREFACE TO THE 2019 VINTAGE EDITION. No inappropriate intentions at all on this, but the promotion as a clarifying point for the fans who are in doubt of its value . — Nora Moya .

10 Important Skills and Traits Your Social Media Manager Will Need
New Post has been published on https://craftsguideto.com/awesome/10-important-skills-and-traits-your-social-media-manager-will-need/
10 Important Skills and Traits Your Social Media Manager Will Need
A decade ago, the role of a social media manager might not have even existed. Today, however, almost every company is involved in social media one style or another.
A quick look at Google Trends shows the rise in interest in the term “social media manager” over the years, and it seems that people have never been as interested in the term as they are today.
But what does it take to be a great social media manager? What are the skills to master and traits to have? How can you work on those areas?
In this post, we’ll try our best to answer all those questions. We’ll share 10 skills and traits that are crucial to being a great social media director and relevant resources to help you continue improving those areas.
Skills vs Traits
Throughout this post, we’ll discuss the various skills and traits we feel are most important for social media directors. But before we dive in, I rapidly wanted to share some of my learnings about the difference between skills and traits.
Here’s a great explanation of abilities vs traits from Red Letter Resumes :P TAGEND
Skills are tangible factors that you actually bring to the table. Things such as HTML, PowerPoint, Tax Preparation, Medication Compounding, Social Media Management, Lesson Planning, Accounts Receivable, Contract negotiations, etc. They are things that require you to develop a certain level of understanding, productivity or efficiency to claim expertise.
A trait is therefore defined as, “a quality that constructs one person or thing different from another”. These are the things that make you who you are, that are part of your personality: the things that stimulate you different from other people. The difference is that these are subjective. One person’s definition of being hard-working is not the same as another’s. Traits come without a quantifiable or standard measure. They are often, but not always, amplifiers of how you do or complete something that is a skill.
( Image from The Huffington Post)
When it comes to finding your ideal social media director, I feel you may be looking for the right mix of tangible abilities (things like copywriting and analytics) and traits( such as curiosity).
In addition, we feel that the role of a social media administrator these days owes heavily to the concept of a T-shaped marketer. We use the T-shaped marketer framework at Buffer to describe the depth of skills each of us has as well as the breadth of experiences and knowledge that we all hold.
Here’s a n example of how this might look for someone with a depth of ability in content :P TAGEND
7 skills top social media administrators share 1. Copywriting
Copywriting is a fundamental ability for social media marketing (and probably all areas of marketing ). Writing good copy is required in many regions of a social media manager’s role, from filling up your social media profile description to crafting tweets and Facebook posts.
To drive engagement and clicks, you have to fit a captivating story into your social media post and without great copywriting abilities that can be difficult.
To enhance your copywriting skills, I’d highly recommend studying a few copywriting formulas to help you craft inspiring copy. Discovering a copywriting formula( or two) that works for you can be a great productivity boost and also improve the quality of the social media content you publish.
One of our favorite copywriting techniques here at Buffer is the ‘Before- After- Bridge’ – you may recognize it from a few of our blog posts and social posts. Here’s how it works :P TAGEND Before- After- Bridge
Before- Here’s your world …
After- Imagine what it’d be like, having Problem A solved …
Bridge- Here’s how to get there.
Example :P TAGEND

2. Design( Graphics and Videos)
Research has found that social media posts with images receive more engagement and 43 percent of consumers want to see more videos content in the future.
Social media evolved a great deal over recent years, and we have removed from mostly plain text based updates towards visual content such as images and videos. Designing and creating visual content is becoming an essential skill for social media managers.

3. Public Speaking( confidence in front of an audience)
With features and apps like Facebook Live, Instagram Live, and Periscope, live videos are becoming more and more important on social platforms. And marketers have noted this change, with 42 percent of marketers saying they want to create more live videos.
Why are marketers aroused about live video? I believe the answer is two-fold: reach and involvement. Facebook Live videos are more likely to appear higher in the News Feed when those videos are live than after they are no longer live. From an participation perspective, live content also provides opportunity for high-engagement and 1:1 interactions with audiences.
To tap into the live video trend, social media managers have to be confident enough to go live on social media to connect with their audience. Having public speaking abilities will help you to present your ideas, interview guests, answer impromptu questions, and chat with your followers in real-time.

4. Customer Service/ Community Engagement
Social media is the top channel people going to see for client care, but merely 21 percent of businesses use social media for customer support. This entails there’s a huge opportunity here to provide remarkable customer service experiences.
As the face of your company on social media and the person who is likely to be responding to at least some of the messages your brand receives on platforms like Twitter and Facebook, it’s important for social media managers to have conversational abilities and empathy to help you clients on social media.
Community engagement is quite similar in many ways. A great social media community director is able to ask the right questions to facilitate engagement and answer questions about the product, company, or industry.

5. Behavioral Psychology
With data and analytics, you know what type of social media posts do well. Behavioral psychology tells you the why — for example, why are people continue to attract certain posts? Why do people share certain posts?
Knowing the what allows you to place trends and try to repeat past successes; knowing the why enables you to understand the underlying causes for those trends in order to try and create future successes.
For example, your data might tell you that your tweets with images are doing better than tweets with merely text. Based on just that information, you might create more tweets with images. However, it could be that your adherents prefer visual content. Without knowing the psychology behind trends, you might miss out on opportunities to create other types of visual content such as videos and GIFs.
You certainly don’t need a degree or high level of expertise in psychology to be a social media administrator, but a keenness to learn and understand psychology at some level is an important skill.

6. Analytics
The term,’ Analytics’, is used quite broadly here, referring to both social media metrics( e.g. likes, commentaries, shares, etc .) and business metrics( e.g. traffic, leadings, conversions, revenue, etc .). A great social media administrator is able to understand both types of metrics and tie them together to give an overall view of the company’s social media performance against business goals.
A social media administrator should be the guiding light in your business when it comes to measuring your performance across various social channels. As such, learning the ins and outs of social media metrics and judging which ones are meaningful for your business is essential for a social media manager.
For example, if your goal is to drive traffic from social media channels to your website and drive sales, being able to attribute traffic and conversions back to channels and even certain posts will help your team to understand what content is helping you to achieve your goals.
Knowing how to read and interpret data is now an important skill for social media managers.

7. Budgeting
As a social media administrator, you might be allocated a budget to work with. Apart from paid advertising, you might have to pay for things like a social media management tool, designs, images, or courses to improve yourself. Having some basic fiscal and budgeting knowledge can construct you better on the job.
While you might not need to be an Excel expert, understanding Excel and knowing what you can do with it can be very valuable.

3 personality traits great social media managers exhibit 8. Curiosity
A curious social media manager would immerse herself in the social media world, biding up-to-date with the latest development and experimenting with new social media marketing strategies.
Brian Peters is an epitome of this quality. When we detected that videos, especially live videos, are becoming popular on social media, Brian immediately started inducing more videos on Facebook and Twitter. When Snap Inc. launched Spectacle, Brian got it as soon as he could to try it out and figure out how marketers can use it in their social media strategy.
HubSpot VP of Marketing Meghan Keaney Anderson said this really well when she described her ideal social media hire :P TAGEND
“We really look for people who have their thumb on the heartbeat of how social is changing. It is one of the most rapidly changing industries right now, and I want someone who is paying attention to it, who is enthralled by it and fascinated by it. … Things shift so quickly. If you think about the social media channels that were dominant two years ago and the social media channels that are dominant today, it’s just a totally different world.”

Shining Immortality of Mammon’s Love
Shining Immortality of Mammon’s Love -- Pathfinder Urban Fantasy Occult Ritual
Brought to you absolutely free to enjoy, to test & to share – as always – by the fine folks of my Patreon.
For more material on the topic, see both Occultic Singularity & Incantations From the Other Side: Spirit Magic
School Transmutation; Level 9th
Casting Time 9 hours
Components V, S, M (a masterwork, life-like miniature statuette of the primary caster, as she wishes she appeared, crafted of solid gold and worth at least 3,000 gp; one severed body-part from Albert Kenkaid, usually a finger or a tongue (such items can usually be acquired on the black market for a minimum of 2,000 gp.); a variety of expensive material objects & consumer goods [listed below] worth at least 2,000 gp.; gold-colored paint mixed with powerful drugs, worth at least 1,000 gp.), F (an opulent home with high windows, thirteen gold-plated weighted merchant’s scales of masterwork quality, fifteen darkwood pedestals, a darkwood chalice, heavy curtains and a high-quality source of music, worth a total of 28,000 gp), SC (minimum zero; a maximum of up to twenty secondary casters may assist with this ritual)
Skill Checks Craft (body-painting) DC 33, 2 successes; Knowledge (religion) DC 33, 2 successes; Perform (singing or string instruments) DC 33, 2 successes; Profession (accountant) DC 33, 1 success; Profession (interior design) DC 33, 1 success; Spellcraft DC 33, 1 success
Casters of this ritual may willingly reduce their cost-of-living level to achieve success with this ritual. For each step of reduction that is accepted by a caster during the completion of any one skill check, above, the casters of this ritual receive a +1 profane bonus on that skill check. This reduction in cost-of-living level may be expended by any caster, and this bonus stacks with itself: in this way, multiple casters can willingly crash their credit scores, get kicked out of their apartments & have their farms repossessed in exchange for immediate power ... and the success of this ritual.
This supernatural reduction in cost-of-living level lasts until the start of the next game month, when casters must once again invest an amount of gold equal to the lifestyle bracket they wish to live in. A caster who possesses a cost-of-living level of Destitute cannot reduce her own cost-of-living level in exchange for power in this way.
Range self
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance no
Backlash The primary caster is exhausted and immediately falls to -1 hit points, bleeding out and dying; the primary caster also suffers a permanent -6 penalty to one ability score (selected by the primary caster). The caster may choose to reduce her Dexterity score with this Backlash, as this penalty is obviated whether the ritual is successful or not: this special penalty overlaps with (does not stack with) the -6 penalty to Dexterity imposed by the Metal-Clad template (see below). Whether the ritual is successful or not, the primary caster’s new fast healing will most-likely save her life, even if she is entirely alone.
Failure The primary caster immediately suffers the effects of feeblemind and gains both the Lead-Clad Template and the Ravenous Creature template; she is treated as having consumed herself within the last 24 hours. The primary caster gains sustenance only from consuming the flesh of the ritual’s casters, although she may mistakenly attempt to gain sustenance from other members of her own species in her bestial fury. If the primary caster is ever slain by violence or other mishap (rather than dying of her accursed starvation), she returns to life in 2d4 days (as per true resurrection) and gains either the Advanced Simple Template, the Giant Simple Template or another appropriate +1 CR template (such as the Earth-Infused template); these special templates always stack.
original image from here
Effect:
This ritual may only be cast on the primary caster’s birthday. It must be cast indoors, near windows, during daylight hours while the sunlight is partially blocked by curtains; the ritual must be completed after the sun is set, bathed in near-total darkness: lit only by candles and the roaring bonfire at the center of the ritual space.
This ritual usually occurs in a mansion owned by the primary caster or by one of her servants, but this is not technically required.
This ritual may only be cast by a living creature, and casting this spell is both a strongly Lawful and Evil act. Note that no casters of this ritual must worship or serve Mammon nor any other Archdevil.
By means of this ritual, the caster may apply both the Immortal Creature Template and the Gold-Clad Template to herself.
NOTE: Yes, this means the primary caster gains a total of +10 to Charisma.
Yes, this means that a wizard who “dump-stated” Charisma to an 8 gains a total Charisma score of 18 after successfully completing the ritual, while a highly-charismatic antipaladin might become near-godlike.
Yes, this is powerful. Yes, this is dangerous.
This is the shining shape of Mammon’s love.
The ritual begins with the preparation of a bonfire in the center of the ritual space, usually cut & dug out of a ballroom or gallery floor, then filled with gasoline and bits of broken violins, pianos, furniture and oil-paintings. The fifteen darkwood pedestals are then arranged around this pit in an esoteric but aesthetically-pleasing way.
A gold-plated ritual balance-scale is placed on each of thirteen pedestals.
The primary caster then places the golden icon of herself upon a curtain-draped pedestal and stands upon a matching pedestal directly opposite the icon; she gazes at this icon across the flames of the bonfire – and at the surrounding scales – near-exclusively for the duration of the ritual. The scales around her are then filled with a variety of expensive material objects & consumer goods, including -- but not limited to -- gold, platinum, silk, exotic fur, musical instruments, crude oil, incense, diamonds, ink, paper currency, receipts, magnetized plastic, clockwork, electronics, rich wine, and fine foods including thick butter, spiced jam and pickled heron eggs, soft cheeses wrapped in sealed wax, exquisite cuts of marbled steak wrapped-cold in thick bacon, thin wafers of garlic-soaked crust, pepper, cherries, mint leaves, chocolate, salted cashews, saffron, truffles, caviar and tiny onions.
These items are weighed, evaluated and sacrificed: balanced against one another in a ritual “transaction” that seeks to purchase the immortal soul of the primary caster and tie it to her own earthly buying-power. As items fall from the scales, they are immediately replaced, until the ground is littered with spilled, ruined and destroyed objects of unutterable value. Many of these items fall into the pit of the bonfire and are consumed.
If any weighted balance-scale is damaged or destroyed during the course of this ritual’s casting, the ritual automatically fails.
The primary caster is then painted, head-to-toe, to appear like her own perfect self-image, becoming lost in the transactions around her as the drug set in. She stands perfectly still, matching her own icon as perfectly as she is able.
The severed piece of Albert Kenkaid is dipped in gold paint and then eaten.
The ritual concludes with the primary caster receiving an unholy “baptism” from a darkwood chalice full of drug-laced golden paint, drinking deeply & becoming reborn. Whether the ritual is successful or not, the primary caster vanishes, as does her icon; she gains both templates and appears exactly halfway between the two “central” pedestals, within the bonfire: once she regains consciousness, she steps from the flames once more: an utterly new and unique creature.
Designer’s Note: This ritual is taught both by Mr. Skinflint and by Amaana Qaruun; it is -- in theory -- available to any member of the Inner Circle of the Archfiend who is capable of paying for the service to be performed and willing to accept the risks. Those few creatures who have successfully completed the ritual are automatically considered full members of the mysterious Oil Dollar Organization; the final goals of this organization are unclear, although they are known to have high-level influence over Union Global Confederated.
