Thirteen things I noted about CR2E122 “Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained” :

Lucien, philosophizing about dreams and possibilities, dead serious : "I'm asking if you have imagination. Your goals, your future, the things you want to see." Jester, immediately, also dead serious : "I would like to domesticate unicorns."

I think Jester and Beau's questioning went in the right way. I believe that whatever the Somnovem are or aren't, Lucien thinks he is on the same level of power as them. He wants to negotiate, not to serve blindly.

Jester : "What do you guys think I talk about all the time, fake stuff ?" The rest of the Mighty Nein, all looking elsewhere : "Huuuuuuh..."

Worse than Laura a shirt, Sam put the picture of Travis in the awful awful trailer of the unreleased movie “To Have and To Hold” where Travis played. I know this because I saw tumblr posts that proves that sometime in this period, the fandom uncovered this trailer and made fun of it. It warms my heart to see Sam listening to the people's voice. Also this furthers ad to my guess that Sam will die, murdered by his friends.

Caduceus just compared Lucien's story to that time he had a pet squirrel and the squirrel got rabies. I love him so much.

Oh my god, he gave them the book and Caleb and Beau just went to town on it. Lots of lore !!!

Jester is right. But I fear it's already too late : either just the one look at the book sufficed to being to... change ?... Beau and Caleb ; either it's through prolonged and repetitive exposure. But even that, it's already too late because they will absolutely go back to the book if they can because they want knowledge.

Caleb is worried because Jester disappeared, and he wants to find her in his mansion : "I will put out an APB amongst the cats." Sam, quick as ever : "All Pussy Bulletin ?"

No but with the knowledge that Lucien doesn't really need to sleep, and has the ability to Scry on them infinitely (? or at least a good amount, more than 5 times a day !)... it's horrible, the Mighty Nein must feel so exhausted and stressed !! It's like in a movie where the hero is pursued by a greater force, always there, and there's no respite, and they're always watched !!

Love that Matt managed to tell them, thanks to Lucien's adventure as a cat, that the Mighty Nein's greatest strategy (Polymorph) will not work against this enemy, since he kept the nine eyes...

There is a difference between keeping the past in mind to avoid future mistakes, and intentionally causing yourself emotional pain to punish yourself.

Caduceus feels worried and upset about his friend causing himself pain, and Caleb feels misunderstood and judged about his coping mechanism.

It's like that time when Caleb and Beau got into a fight because they kept talking past each other even though they fundamentally agree

Caduceus is a bit avoidant and Caleb is into self-flagellation, but they both believe in remembering their mistakes and learning from them

Power Struggle

There’s no one other than Beau I rather try to rein in Caleb’s quest for power. I’m actually a little glad that she read the book with him. Both Beau and Caleb obviously love each other so much, she wouldn’t let him go off the deep end without putting up a hellava fight.

He’s gonna be tested a lot soon, and she’ll have his back all the way.
