La dernière livraison des « Monsanto Papers » montre comment l’entreprise tente de décrédibiliser les chercheurs et organismes qui lui déplaisent.

« Merci, Kate », signe « Sam » à la fin de son courriel. « Kate » est journaliste pour Reuters, la grande agence de presse britannique. « Sam » Murphey, lui, travaille comme responsable mondial des affaires extérieures pour Monsanto. En pièce jointe de son courriel daté du 27 avril 2017, l’homme a glissé un document de six pages – un « kit » dont chacun des éléments nourrit l’impression que le Centre international de recherche sur le cancer (CIRC) a volontairement ignoré des données qui auraient pu changer sa décision de classifier le glyphosate « cancérogène probable » pour l’homme.

Ce verdict scientifique, en mars 2015, avait suscité le courroux de Monsanto, et marqué le début d’une contre-attaque d’une ampleur inédite pour défendre l’ingrédient actif du Roundup, l’herbicide le plus vendu au monde.

Ces échanges entre l’influenceur de Monsanto et la journaliste font partie de la dernière livraison des « Monsanto Papers », ces documents internes de la firme, déclassifiés dans le cadre de procédures intentées aux Etats-Unis par des victimes attribuant leur maladie – pour la plupart un cancer du sang appelé lymphome non hodgkinien – à une exposition au glyphosate. Or, deux mois plus tard, en juin 2017, Reuters publie une enquête accablante pour le CIRC.

En particulier, l’article met en cause le scientifique qui a présidé son groupe d’experts sur le glyphosate, Aaron Blair, un chercheur émérite de l’Institut national du cancer américain. D’après une déposition sous serment, révèle Reuters, Aaron Blair a « délibérément dissimulé » à ses collègues la mise à jour des données d’une étude épidémiologique à laquelle il participait. Cette étude, l’Agricultural Health Study (AHS), n’étant pas encore publiée, les experts du CIRC n’avaient pu en prendre connaissance. Conformément aux règles de l’organisation, seules les études publiées sont prises en compte.

Le rapport du CIRC sur le glyphosate « aurait-il été différent si les données manquantes avaient été incluses » ? Aaron Blair a répondu « exact » lors de sa déposition, écrit la journaliste de Reuters, citant des « documents judiciaires » qu’elle dit avoir pu consulter. Différent, certes, mais pas au point de faire basculer la classification du glyphosate, ce que l’article de Reuters ne précise pas.

Le kit fourni par Monsanto insiste en caractères gras sur des phrases soigneusement sélectionnées et extraites de la déposition du chercheur, longue de 300 pages. « Voir la déposition de Blair p. 172 et p. 178 », indique le document, qui comprend également chronologie, points-clés et citation exclusive de Scott Partridge, vice-président de la firme.

Ce que « Sam » Murphey se garde de préciser à la journaliste, c’est que d’autres extraits de la déposition d’Aaron Blair montrent qu’il était associé à une autre étude, défavorable au glyphosate et non encore publiée, et que celle-ci, pas plus que l’AHS, n’a été prise en compte par le CIRC.

« Stratégie intégrée »

Ces « informations d’importance capitale doivent être publiées », martelait dans son courriel « Sam » Murphey, dont les fonctions consistent à « concevoir une stratégie intégrée en matière de médias et de défense des intérêts pour soutenir les enjeux stratégiques essentiels à l’entreprise », ainsi que « pitcher [présenter] et placer des articles majeurs dans des publications, des agences de presse et des médias politiques du monde entier », selon son profil LinkedIn.

Déstabilisé par l’article de Reuters, le CIRC avait défendu l’intégrité de sa démarche scientifique. Ses règles, avait expliqué cette agence des Nations unies, imposent de « ne pas prendre en considération des résultats non publiés, que ce soit ceux de l’AHS ou de toute autre étude ». Ses groupes d’experts fondent exclusivement leur travail sur des études publiées dans les revues scientifiques, et donc passées par le filtre de la relecture par les pairs. La mise à jour de l’AHS sera finalement publiée en novembre 2017.

Black Raisin Cookie and Twizzly Gummy Cookie are the organizers of the Ancient Union of Pedagogy.

They deliver messages between cookies, organize events and meetings, they are the closest to the four ancient cookies.

The story begins at the start of Year 1. Everyone attends University for 4 years which means the students who apply later in the story will only show up in that year.

Example: Financier Cookie will only make an appearance in the second year by story timing as a Freshman. She will be a part of the story from then on.

Cookies with roommates who are unnamed are unnamed because I don't have the brain power to name every single side character that sticks around and give them their own personality and backstory. Some classmates will have debth to them but only the ones really necessary. There are at least 8 cookies in each classes, you do the math with how many side characters I'd have to make up to fill that space. /lh

The Homophobia and Transphobia warnings are mainly internalized issues I just didn't know if a cw or a tw is more appropriate. No one is getting hate crimed in the story for being a member of the LGBTQ.

"Suggestive" themes go as far as kissing and some flirting. A makeout or two the furthest but I am not comfortable writing explicit stuff myself so there won't be anything like that, it's just a heads up.

There are some family conflicts going around too (example: mother and daughter yelling at each other over school) but again, not sure how to tag that so just a heads up. Nothing graphic to be honest.

I am not a doctor. I am but a writer making this AU for fun so there will definitely be medical inaccuracies on the way. Please excuse those in the name of fiction haha

All Uni Students are sorted into 4 schools - you can learn more about that here.

Each school has to be attended for 4 years. At the end of each year there is an exam that determines if you can pass into the next grade or the next school with 4th years.

There are 20 people in each Elementary School classes and Middle School classes. There are 30 in each High School classes. There are 8-20 in University classes but the average is usually 15.

The cookies that were not listed into any schools are still in the story! Every kingdom cookie is in the story - they might just appear when you least expect them to ;)

Also a couple ovenbreak cookies are included but those are a surprise

Welcome to the CRK University AU masterpost

In this AU every single kingdom cookie is assigned to some type of school. The University students are the main focus of the story but I will make a second book once the first one is out that is entirely focused on the rest of the cookie groups.

First and foremost, this is a work in progress. This post will be edited and updated as I post more of the content. Thank you for understanding!

As previously stated, this AU primarily focuses on the University students, but there will be a story about the Primary Schoolers, Middle Schoolers, and High Schoolers too.

In the story, we see how each and every cookie's personalities change, and how they find their passions and become who they are. Everyone is based on their in-game versions but only to a certain degree. This will not match up with the game's lore at all.

We see their struggles, adventures and their relationships change and develop, some for the better and some for the worse.

A lot, if not everyones' personalities are a bit different from canon though. I am using my own take and constructed my own lore for every character involved. Some characters have only slight changes while others may have ground concepts of them changed.

There are a few ovenbreak cookies involved in the story but you won't find them listed just yet. They are a surprise :)

There was no flour war in this story. The ancients fought cake monsters; beasts from the beyond. White Lily doesn't get rebaked. The ancients set up a school system to give every cookie in need a safe space for housing, education, or work if they are in a bad place so they don't turn to violent measures.

You can ask about any characters, the schools, world elements, ect but be prepared that I may not answer things that are huge lore points ;)

So, funny story, I misread your question and had 2 paragraphs out explaining something completely unrelated.

A liiiiitle bit of both.

As I said in the pinned post, she never got rebaked into Dark Enchantress here so your question is completely reasonable.

White Lily's background is pretty long so I am putting it under the cut.

The ancients fought cake beasts for hundreds of years, keeping the cookies safe from the monsters with their soul jams until they could finally seal them away into a different dimension.

Portals still open up occasionally letting out the monsters but since it's not a constant wave of them, its much more managable.

White Lily was responsible for figuring out how to solve the problem. She did excessive research, dark magic capturing her and fascinating her instantly. She learned all the spells she could find and with time she sealed away the monsters.

Her research never stopped though. Since she was not a dark mage, quite the opposite, she had trouble with the spell which is why the cakes can still escape every so often. To solve the problem she continued on with learning, travelling the world for a few months to find all the books on dark magic, which she did.

She learned that cakes are not monsters along the way, most of them just turned feral and beastly from desperation and misery. She told this to the rest of the group which is why the schools opened.

The Ancients wanted to make a safe space for cookies and cakes alike so if they needed education, trainin, work or a place to stay then they could turn to them. It worked pretty well.

White Lily was the founder of White Lily's School of Arcane and Pure Vanilla was her vice principal. She taught her students with passion, eager to educate them and share her knowledge.

After a while, the Ancients told her that she needs to stop teaching dark magic. That dark magic is dangerous and unstable and it's better that the world forgets it existed, if they erase it from history. White Lily argued that it would be MUCH viser if they taught about the dangers of it in all schools and showed how to safely handle it to the ones who are curious.

After all, there will always be people who seek out forbidden knowledge no matter how hard you try to hide it.

They brought up the fact that portals still open up and it was her who casted that spell so she should know how unstable dark magic is. She got upset with them because she was still learning whem she had to use the spell, of course it didn't go perfectly.

It all escalated. They told her to take a break from teaching so they can figure things out so she quit instead. She left the school, telling Pure Vanilla that he can do whatever he wants with it.

She hates them for their ignorance and for pushing her away. She swore to them that they will regret it before she left but they all took it as a heap of the moment decision for her to say that.

She disappeared without a trance for a few months, then one day came back to talk to the Ancients again.

Only PV showed up but in her book that was okay. The less people, the less of a scene it'll make. They talked for a few hours and that night she faked her suicide. She made Pure Vanilla "find her", she timed it perfectly so he can be "sure that it was her and not a random cookie".

She has been constructing her plan on how she will make them see their mistakes and without them knowing, and all four of them have been playing right as she wants them to.
