Big Sky Country - ch. 4
Hello! I hope you're enjoying poor, trouble Frankie lost in the big city. He got some in the last chapter but maybe not in the best or most honest way...
Chapter 4 and our Cowboy!Frankie faces the aftermath of his decisions as he leaves Aisling's bed and decided on his next steps.
Series Master List
He didnât know what time it was, his phone was in his pants somewhere on the floor, when he rolled over onto his back and stared at the ceiling in Aislingâs small studio apartment.Â
The place really was claustrophobic. He hadnât noticed when she first pulled him in, heâd been focused solely on her, her lips, her skin, her hair in the dim, golden light from the lamp in the corner. Now the lamp had been switched off and the small room was dark apart from the street light spilling in through the two rectangular windows on one of the walls. His head, which had been so blissfully silent when she was awake, was now running at full tilt again, the insistent thoughts rolling through. And the guilt had returned, squashed down while he lost himself in her. Now it sat in the pit of his belly, made him feel queasy even.Â
Aisling slept peacefully next to him, he could feel the warmth of her body against his skin, the smell of sex between them and the body wash theyâd both used. Carefully he rolled over onto his side and looked at her, soft features, long, tangled curls spilling over her shoulders, her lips parted as she slept curled in on herself. It was a cliche, but she really looked younger in sleep, vulnerable in a way Frankie hadnât seen her before. She was always the confident, assertive Brooklyn bartender, the New Yorker with a hard edge who was unfazed by the city, comfortable with it in a way that Frankie would never be. But now he saw her relaxed features, comfortably curled up on the bed, sleeping soundly next to him, and Frankie put his hand out, hovering over her cheek, wanting to touch her again but not wanting to wake her. Leaving would be so much harder if she woke up.Â
It would be so easy to just stay, to wrap an arm around her and shift himself closer. Stay until morning and thenâŠ. And then what?Â
Frankie sighed and carefully rolled onto his back again.Â
And then what, Morales? Get your stuff from Evaâs and move in with Aisling like some creepy freeloader? âHi, Iâm your new boyfriend and I live here now even though weâve only just met because Iâve cheated on my girlfriend and now I have nowhere to live in the city.âÂ
No, better to just leave, pick up his stuff and find that bus heading west and leave her out of his shit. This was a mistake.Â
With another low sigh he pushed himself off the bed and carefully fished his boxers and jeans off the floor. He dressed silently, taking his boots in hand before he glanced back at the bed. Aisling hadnât moved, still sleeping with her arm as a pillow, a sheet over her lower half, turned towards the spot where heâd been.Â
It would be so easy.Â
He leaned on the bed with one knee, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek.Â
âIâve got to go,â he mumbled as she hummed something in her sleep, âIâm sorry.âÂ
The street was almost quiet when he left her building, turning back towards Evaâs apartment, but the whirl of thoughts in his head made sure the noise was the same as always. He made his way home, dodging late night drunks and joined the small crowd of those whose shifts began extra early.
No, not home, that place is not home. Itâs just her apartment, home is back west, back in Montana. Just get the stuff, and leave. She doesnât need an explanation, she knows itâs over.Â
He quietly unlocked the front door of the apartment and stepped inside. As soon as he saw the light on in the living room, he knew she was awake and he silently took a deep breath, bracing for her reaction to his reappearance.Â
âFrankie?âÂ
The couch creaked as she pushed off from it and he heard her move across the room. He pulled his boots off and looked up as her shadow fell over the small hallway. Her face was tear streaked and swollen, and as she took two unsteady steps towards him, he saw fresh tears start to fall down her cheeks again.Â
âIâm s-so-rry,â she sobbed and he caught her in his arms as she stumbled against him, her face pressed into his chest, âI thought youâd l-left, and I couldnât get h-hold of you and th-enâŠâÂ
Frankie felt her shoulders shake under his hands as she struggled to catch her breath between the tears before she managed to continue.Â
âI-I was so horrible to you, but I was so sc-scared. I shouldâve told you, I sh-shouldâve let you come t-to the cl-clinic,â she pressed out between gulps of air and Frankie rubbed his palms up and down her back, trying to calm her. The guilt in his belly bubbled and churned, Evaâs desperate tears clawed at his heart and he felt his resolve to just grab his shit and go, weaken.Â
She heaved another sob, her fingers digging into his neck as she clung to him, desperation in her teary breaths. He could hardly leave her like this. Not in the middle of the night, it would be better to wait just a little. Maybe they had to work this through. He heaved a sigh.Â
âCarño, we need to talk,â he said, gently guiding her towards the bedroom, âbut tomorrow, you need to calm down first.âÂ
âDonât leave me, Frankie,â Eva sniffed, more tears falling down her face, fingers gripping his arms as she looked up at him. Her eyes were red rimmed and pleading and Frankie shook his head.Â
âIâm not leaving, Iâm here now. Letâs just get into bed and get some sleep.âÂ
She let him lead her, almost like a child, to the bed and stood by him while he pulled back the covers.Â
âCâmon, get in and get comfortable, Iâm just going to take a shower and then Iâll be right there.âÂ
She nodded, rubbing her hands over her face as she wiped the tears.Â
âIâm such a fucking mess, Frankie,â she said, her voice cracked as he helped her pull the covers up over her. âI need you, but Iâm such a fucking idiot, I donât know why I did it, I shouldâve told you and now itâs o-over-âÂ
Fresh tears slipped from her eyes as she heaved another sob, falling back into the bed, hiccuping as she tried to catch her breath.Â
âCariño, calm down, breathe,â Frankie said, pulling the covers up as she sobbed again, âYeah, I was pissed off, you really fucking hurt me because you didnât tell me, you just cut me out. But we can talk about it tomorrow, Iâm here now.âÂ
She grabbed his hand as he tried to stand up and pulled him down again, reaching for his lips and he let her kiss him, keeping his mouth closed and praying she didnât taste Aisling on him even though heâd showered at her place a few hours ago.Â
âIâll be right back, just let me shower. Itâs been a long fucking day, ok?â He pulled back and stood up, but she still held his hand.Â
âWhere were you, Frankie?âÂ
âJust walking around, sat down by the river for hours, then some bar,â he half lied, pulling his hand from hers, âJust let me shower.âÂ
He left her and retreated into the bathroom, closing the door behind himself and leaned on the vanity, dropping his head between his shoulders rather than look at himself. He knew heâd see the guilt in his eyes. The conflict between wanting to ease his guilt and stay with Eva, and the pull in his chest to go back to Aisling. He knew it should end with him just leaving them both and going back home.Â
What do you want, Morales? What do you really want?Â
I have no fucking clue.Â
Yeah you do. Flip a three sided coin, what do you want it to land on? Eva, Aisling or Montana?Â
There are no fucking three sided coins.Â
Itâs a metaphor, pendejo. Force yourself to make a choice.Â
I donât know. I canât pick Aisling. I barely know her, she doesnât know me. Maybe in a different life, if weâd met at a different time, then something couldâve happened.Â
Something already did happen, you had your dick inside her just a few hours ago. But I get it, you donât want to drag her into all your shit. Thatâs commendable. Leave her out of it.Â
YeahâŠIâll leave her out of it.Â
Frankie lifted his head and met his own gaze in the mirror, dark, tired eyes, and he dropped his head again.Â
But if fucking hurts, sheâs special. And I feel like a shit for just walking out on her.Â
You want to pick her.Â
Yeah, I do. I really fucking do.Â
He heaved a sigh and pulled his t-shirt over his head, dropping it in the basket along with his jeans. The shower took a while to heat up but he stepped inside anyway, the cold spray jolting his mind.Â
EvaâŠmaybe this was a wake-up call for her. Maybe we can start again, go back to Montana and make those changes we talked about. Maybe she realized that what we had was good, back when it was still working.
Do you even believe that, Morales?Â
I donât know, maybe? She was really upset just now, when she thought Iâd left. Maybe she wants to try again.Â
Yeah, but do you?Â
Frankie scrubbed his hands over his face, the water turning warm as he rolled the thought around his head.Â
Did he want to try again with Eva? He did when there was a baby on the way, had that changed just because of the abortion? At first, yes, it was such a fucking betrayal to not even let him be there. He clenched his fists hard just thinking about it, the anger from earlier rising inside him again. But he tried to be rational, break it down. If Eva really regretted doing it without him, who was he to not give her a second chance? Heâd been given endless second chances, many of them by her when he was still using. Sheâd been there, held him together, even moved away from her friends and family in Florida because he needed to be in Montana.Â
Yeah, I owe it to her, to try it with her again, I owe her that much.Â
He squashed down the small voice in his head that told him that wasnât enough, not by far enough to build a relationship on. He knew the voice was right, but the guilt that still gnawed inside didnât let him listen to it.Â
With a sigh he turned off the water and grabbed his towel. The guilt churned in his stomach and he couldnât shift the image of Aisling from his head. And it wasnât an image of her while theyâd had sex, although he could easily conjure up those in his mind too. Instead it was her sleeping form in the bed, curled around herself, turned to him, looking soft and vulnerable in the dark room. When he carefully crept into Evaâs bed, trying to not wake her, and closed his eyes, that was the image that stayed in his head and he sighed again.Â
I really wanted to pick you, Aisling. But I owe it to Eva to try and fix this. I owe her that much at least.Â
âYou know, that tip jar is going to be empty by the end of the night if you keep snapping at customers like that, Ash.âÂ
Aisling scowled at Jenny and grabbed another pint glass.Â
âIâm just sayingâŠweâre going to be poor at the end of the shift because youâve got a face like youâre about to bite every guyâs head off,â Jenny said as she shook her head and shifted a tray of clean glasses from the dishwasher. âJust be a bit nicer to them, I promise I wonât say a thing if he comes into the bar, just donât chase away all the other customers, please?âÂ
âIâll try, I just canât fucking believe he just took off, not even a note. If I see him, I'll punch him.âÂ
Aisling scowled, feeling the tension in her jaw creep into her neck. She hadnât been surprised when she woke up the next morning and Frankie wasnât there, he hadnât said he was staying and maybe he needed to be somewhere. But he hadnât even left a message, no note, and he hadnât come by the bar in the three days since it happened. Sheâd thought theyâd had something, at least something more than just a one night stand and then being ghosted.Â
Now it was Saturday night and Aislingâs disappointment had turned to anger. In a fit of rage yesterday, sheâd thrown away the note with his name and number from the first time theyâd met. No fucking way was she going to recommend him to anyone. Or cave and call him first.Â
âJust put him down as another guy who canât commit, heâs not the first and he wonât be the last,â Jenny continued, grabbing a stack of glasses and pushing open the door back into the bar. âCome with me to Smorgasbord tomorrow and weâll get some of that cheesecake, maybe eat our body weight in empanadas, trash talk every man weâve ever met. Forget about the cowboy.âÂ
She winked at Aisling as the door slipped closed again.Â
Aisling grabbed another stack of glasses and followed her.Â
âYou just want to flirt with that guy who sells the hot sauces,â she said, placing the glasses behind the bar, âbut yeah, empanadas and cheesecake sounds like a plan.âÂ
âI need to find my own man who can give me incredible orgasms and then disappear,â Jenny quipped, âbecause, at least he did that before he ghosted you, be grateful for that.âÂ
âFuck off,â Aisling scowled, but Jenny just laughed and turned to one of the patrons at the bar.Â
Empanadas and cheesecake didnât help, Aisling decided the next day, but at least the weather was nice and the food good. The not very helpful thoughts of Frankie still chased around her head whenever she was left on her own, but Jennyâs chatter had kept them at bay for a few hours. Now sheâd gone to dispose of their empty paper plates while Aisling kept their seats, and the thoughts were back. She leaned back against the threstle table, her face turned towards the sun with her eyes closed, trying, and failing, to not think about Francisco fucking Morales.Â
The bench next to her dipped as someone plonked down on it, making the table shake. Aisling opened her eyes and glanced over, expecting to see Jenny with lemonade in her hands, but instead it was a man she didnât know, grinning at her from behind a hideous set of wrap-around sunglasses.Â
âHey, honey,â he smirked, âyou look kinda lonely on this sunny day.âÂ
âNot interested,â Aisling said, turning her face to the sun again and closing her eyes.Â
âAww, câmon, donât be like that,â the man replied, she could hear the smarmy grin in his voice, âitâs a beautiful day, youâre a beautiful woman, letâs have some fun.âÂ
âJeez, dude,â Aisling sighed, âjust fuck off. And youâre in my friendâs spot.âÂ
âIs your friend as pretty as you? âCause maybe we can invite her too, you know? Iâm sure we can think of a way to involve her too.âÂ
Aisling shuddered and made a face of disgust as she turned to the man, âFuck off, not interested, what part of that are you not getting?âÂ
âYou donât know what youâre missing, Iâm real-âÂ
âShe told you to fuck off, so fuck off,â a manâs voice interrupted the creepy guy as a large shadow blocked the sun in front of Aisling. Her heart leapt into her throat, she knew that voice.Â
âHey, man, weâre talking here, sheâs with me,â the guy next to her said and to her utter disgust, she suddenly felt his arm around her shoulders as he pulled her into his side.Â
Frankie reacted instantly, grabbed the manâs other arm and yanked him off the bench, twisting his arm up behind his back.Â
âTouch her again and Iâm breaking your arm, now fuck off,â he snarled, shoving the man away from the bench and placing himself between the guy and Aisling. She couldnât see Frankieâs face, but the low pitch of his voice and the fearful expression of the other guy let her know that he was probably an intimidating sight.Â
âWhat happened?âÂ
Jenny rushed over, almost dropping the lemonade cups on the table as she grabbed Aisling, who was getting to her feet, eyes locked on Frankie. He was still staring down the other man. The creepy guy was holding his hands up in a placating gesture and backing away through the crowd.Â
âJeez, Iâm leaving. Chill, dude.âÂ
âYou ok, Ash?â Jenny asked Aisling, her hand on her arm now, a worried look on her face.Â
âYeah, Iâm fine, just some creep who tried hitting on me,â Aisling said to her as Frankie turned around. She opened her mouth to say thank you, then she saw a woman step up next to him and slip her hand around his waist.Â
âWhatâs going on, baby? You know her?â The womanâs voice was curious but not suspicious, and she had a friendly smile as she looked up at Frankie, hugging his arm. Frankie didnât respond, he was looking at Aisling with almost pleading eyes as it all clicked into place for her.Â
âYou have a girlfriend?!â she snarled, taking a step towards him, her eyes flitting between Frankie and the woman. The other womanâs eyebrows shot up in surprise as she looked at Aisling.Â
âYou have a fucking girlfriend, Frankie?!â Aisling almost yelled, anger flaring up inside her, and she shoved him backwards with both her palms on his chest. He didnât say anything, just accepted her attack as his face fell, and he gave an almost imperceptible nod.Â
âThatâs Frankie?â Jenny exclaimed behind Aisling, catching on as she looked between the man and the woman hanging on to his arm. âYou fucking pig!â she spat and took two steps forward, protectively putting her arm around Aisling who felt her jaw ache at how hard she was biting back the angry tears that suddenly threatened to well up.Â
Frankie looked pained, the hand of the arm that his girlfriend wasnât hanging on to, clenched and unclenched as he tried to find something to say that wouldnât make it worse.Â
Aisling suddenly felt nauseous, staring at the man who just four days ago sheâd let get so close. Now he was standing in front of her, looking like a fish gasping for air, clinging to fucking straws.Â
âYou are a fucking pig, Frankie,â she said, her voice low and laced with hatred, âJust so you know,â she added, looking over at his confused looking girlfriend, âWe met a week ago and had sex on Thursday, he didnât say a word about you.â She looked back at Frankie, shaking her head as she eyed him up and down, âYouâre fucking pathetic.âÂ
Aisling turned and stalked away, grabbing Jenny by the hand and pulling her with her. The hot, angry tears were burning in her eyes, and as Jenny wrapped her arm around her waist, they started falling.Â
Frankie felt Eva let go of his arm and he briefly closed his eyes. His world had come crashing down, and he felt an almost crippling fatigue wrap around his body. Eva moved to stand in front of him and when he looked down at her, her eyes were black with rage, she was ready to kill him. He couldnât blame her.Â
Heâd really fucked up this time.Â

Chapter 1
Cw: mentions of drug abuse, death.
Tagging: @justrainandcoffee @call-sign-shark @emotionalcadaver @peakyswritings
There is something about the girl from Ten that reminds her of Lucy Gray.
Perhaps it was the colors in her blouseâs embroidery that defied the soul crushing weight of the Capitolâs boot on her districtâs metaphorical neck, or that defiant smile she wore as they presented her as the chosen tribute.
She did not sing, she did not stuff a snake down a girlâs shirt, but that freckled girl with tan skin and wavy dark hair was Lucy Gray Baird come back to life. Coriolanus and Gaul have seen it too and so it falls on Tigris to protect her from their poison even if she cannot save her from the arena.
âI will style District 10, if you have any complaints about it, you may bring them to President Snow.â Tigris flashed her feline smile at her fellow stylists, already having Eva Smithâs outfits decided.
Eva Smith and her male counterpart, manage to impress the Capitol citizens with their covey-like colors, those who still remember Lucy Gray fondly are the first to sponsor her.
The Tigress knows she will lose her coveted spot, but Cinna and Portia are more than capable of holding their own now. It will be worth it, she reminds herself as she remakes Lucy Grayâs dress from memory.
Coriolanus will know she means to sever the last bond holding them together.
Tribute Eva Smith will be Snowâs greatest nightmare.
Eva doesnât trust the tiger woman.
Nor her escort, nor her mentor who canât seem to remember her name and calls her Maria more often than not. It wasnât their fault, about half the girls in 10 are named Maria or Mary. Her mentorâs own daughter was named Mary, and now thinks all brown haired girls are her.
Eva Smith was just a few months shy of her eighteenth birthday the day she was reaped. All those between the ages of twelve and eighteen had to come from all corners of the district to the Justice Square and awaited their fates in their Sundayâs best.
She wore a blue skirt that reached her shins and a blouse that once belonged to her dead sister, Feli had worn it for her wedding. Spent all her savings for colorful threads from the only haberdasher who had them.
She wears fine cowboy boots even she as an apothecaryâs only child canât afford, brown leather boots with a matching belt and hat band. The rainbow ruffles of her skirt match the feathers on her hat and the embroidery in her partnerâs charro outfit.
They are called beautiful by those who send them to their deaths.
At least the tiger woman knew enough to respect their districtâs culture, Eva thinks as she sees the district 12 tributes dresses as miners and dusted with soot.
âYou remind of someone, a girl from the districts who no one thought sheâd win.â The woman smiles as docile as a kitten. But even kittens scratch, and even big cats can feign innocence just like the woman before her.
She must be lying, twelve has never had a female victor. As if sensing her skepticism, Tigris Snow clarifies it was on the early games when no one watched and most Victors too old to be alive.
Evaâs Mentor was from the 17th, she was as old as Mags Flanagan from 4. She barely remembered anything these days because she once took morphine when her only child, Mary Anne, was reaped at the last Quarter Quell and she never recovered.
âHow did she win?â Eva asks. Not everyone wins by killing, some hide it out and manage to survive. Twelveâs past victor had already taken to curing his sorrows with a bottle, but he had used the forcefield in the arena to win. Perhaps this victor had a strategy.
âSomeone risked everything to take her to victory.â The tiger said with nostalgia, as if that had been a sweet, beautiful thing and not a hellish nightmare. âAn alliance so strong he gave up everything for her victory.â
But it was a strange strategy, to rely on an alliance so strong the male tribute chose to die for the girl. Eva knows she is charming and pretty, but she doesnât know if that will be enough to buy her a truce with the presumed winner of this game: Laurentius Nelson, twin brother of last yearâs victor.
And yet when she catches his eye at the mandatory training, Eva considers the strategy. Her mentorâs strategy was just to run and pray they donât find you.
Who says she cannot try both?
âCall me Laurie.â He is more boy than man, even if he is exactly like his brother. Had the games come five months or so later, Eva would be the same age as them.
Laurie is tall, broad shouldered, handsome even, and his blue eyes don't have brown at their center like his brother. He has freckles and has yet to lose that boyish innocence his brother lacks. Except for that, they are identical.
He doesnât know hunger, or necessity like even she has and yet his district trains killers. Whether they kill at the games or as peacekeepers makes no difference for them.
âEva, but you may call me whatever you like.â she gives him her best smile and swallows the guilt she already feels for doing this.
If she lives, she may learn to trust the Tiger Woman and hate her for this.

Yo, Lancerblr
Figured I'd toss a few of these your way, grab some feedback. Haven't actually had a chance to play and stress test 'em yet, so I've got no clue how they'd fare in a combat situation, or if any of them are any good, really. Just threw together what I felt'd be neat in concept.
Even if this only gets one or two notes, I'm fine with that. Just felt like sharin'.
Personally, my favorite's split between Carrion Courier and Fog.
Beware, there are a LOT of words beneath the thing. Like, a-lot-a-lot-a-lot.
Here's Jane Doe, callsign Misnomer, with her mech Fog. She's a favorite, if you couldn't tell. Wanted for knowing a helluva lot more than she should and stealing a truly remarkable amount of prototype tech.
Mech Note:
"It's in the clouds! It's in the goddamn clouds!"
"Bank right, bank right, fuckfuckfuck FUCK-"

And here we have Jane's former co-worker/war-buddy/mortal-enemy, John Blackacre, piloting the Carrion Courier. Spider-cowboy-mech. All the auxiliaries, all the close range brawl.

"... Hey, where'd squad five go?"
The sergeant answers with another question. "Y'see that big red circle that just popped up on your map reticle, private?"
"...Yessir."
The old Tortuga's head nods and extends a hand, holding up five fingers, slowly putting them down one after the other.
On the final finger, thunder splits the skies in the distance, once, twice, thrice, and then with a final sundering THOOM, the circle disappears, along with the markers within it denoting the remains of squad 8.
"Oh."
The older mech crosses its arms. "Yes, private. Oh."
Out of the corner of his eye, his face lights up red, and he feels the color drain from it.
"We're in the circle, sergeant."
The sergeant nods, again. "Correct, private. Now, what we do in this situation?"
He doesn't even wait for the order. The circle was very, very, very big, and his Saladin's legs weren't the fastest.

This is Cal Dera, callsign Crepescule. Nothing about her is reminiscent of faint rays of sunlight, more akin to its boiling surface. She specializes in punching straight through the frontline and making herself a very large fucking problem for everybody involved behind it. Walk into her zone? Melt. Attempt to go around or leave it? Get shotgunned to death.
Mech Note:
The 'tech stares. "What the fuck."
His co-shift nods. "Yeah, that tends to be what people say when they see her for the first time."
"I can feel the fucking heat from here, and we're behind triple reinforced walls in a vacuum. It's not even on yet?"
The co-shift shakes his head. "Nope. Reactor's not even burning yet."
"How the hell does this thing work near civilian centers?"
The co-shift paused in his preparations before eventually offering two words. "It doesn't."
He felt his mouth dry. "Ah."

Christ, I remember trying to watch NGE last year and falling off a few episodes in because nothing was happening and I found other stuff to binge that was more entertaining. I knew most of the infamous stuff happens in the latter half but how is this show 11 episodes in and still ass? At least now I know why Eva is mostly known for it's ending, there's virtually no beginning and thus far very little middle.
It's not a bad show, but yeah, it's kind of a letdown for me. I've been looking forward to this for a long time now, and it just doesn't seem to be measuring up. Maybe my expectations were unrealistic, but Evangelion always seemed to be this really cool, popular thing, and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about.
All that being said, let me dial back some of my negativity towards this show. It has its moments, often quiet, subtle touches that I can't really document with screenshots and a text synopsis. For example, when the kids are making their way through the base during the blackout, Asuka needles Shinji the whole time, then tries to do the same to Rei, and Rei completely no-sells it, just refuses to take the bait. She doesn't dispute Asuka's claims to leadership, but she doesn't recognize her authority either. And yet, when Asuka finally comes up with an actual plan to defeat their enemy, Rei agrees to follow her lead. It's not a question of respect or disrespect. She's just waiting for Asuka to cut out the bluster and be sensible.
This show reminds me of other anime TV series I've watched in the past. Noir. Excel Saga. Cowboy Bebop. Tenchi Universe. Tenchi in Tokyo. The Gonzo Hellsing series. Revolutionary Girl Utena. I feel like I'm forgetting something else, but the point is that they all sort of share a similar story structure, maybe because they're all TV series with similar lengths.
A few years back, I learned about cours, a term for a three month period in Japanese television. It's about thirteen weeks, which is why so many anime TV series are aired in multiples of 12 or 13 episodes. Jojo season 1 was 26 episodes, which was used to cover both Parts 1 and 2, which worked out, because Part 1 was a little too short for its own 3-month run, while Part 2 was a little too long. Part 3 was like forty-eight episodes, so that's four cours. Parts 4, 5, and maybe 6 were three cours apiece.
Of course, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is based on a serial manga, but I'm pretty sure shows like the ones I mentioned above were wholly original, or only loosely based on a manga or OAV. Those shows, including NGE are designed to be 13, 26, or 39 episodes long, and the story is plotted accordingly. And they kind of operate the same way, spending a certain number of episodes introducing the characters, then doing a bunch of routine adventures, and then towards the last seven or eight episodes things start to get serious and the really plot-driven stuff happens.
I wouldn't quite call it a formula, but it explains why I keep finding NGE's pacing so familiar, even though I really haven't seen another show like it. I think what everyone remembers so fondly is the heavy stuff, where a lot of the secrets and mysteries get revealed, and all of these characters and relationships that have built up over the series get pushed to their limits. But if I'm right, that probably won't get rolling until Episode 18 or 19.
And if it is a formula, then it clearly works, or they wouldn't keep doing it. I guess that's just the difference between Japanese TV and direct-to-video stuff. I've been spoiled by shows like Hellsing Ultimate, where the episodes were variable-length, and organized for maximum effect, because there were no broadcast schedules or logistical issues to get in the way. I suspect a lot of these shows have a few weak episodes where nothing happens just to fill out the cour. They wrote 18 epsiodes' worth of story, but it has to be padded out to 26.
How you experience a show like NGE probably matters too. If I had seen Evangelion back in 2000, on the Toonami lineup, I probably would have only caught bits and pieces of it, eventually getting curious enough to make a deliberate effort to watch it all the way through and figure out just what was going on. That's how I got into Tenchi. I can imagine some small group of anime nerds getting together to watch NGE three episodes at a time, and if they're still somewhat new to this genre, it would blow them away. Sentimental value counts for a lot, but it's not something I can recapture just by watching it myself. But it's the best I can manage, and whether the show is good or not, at least I'll have the satisfaction of finding out.

I wanted to do another set with another frame that was more sci fi. It's the frame I use for my gundam proxy deck, based on a design made by Evelyn. I like her EVA frame a lot, but I wanted to make something simpler. After doing Inazuma and Liyue from Genshin, I went to make a Honkai Star Rail set, with no specific theme.
Asta is Vadrik, Astral Archmage. Blue & red seemed to be a fitting color combination to me, and I wanted something to go with time, prediction and/or the stars. The day/night cycle mechanic was a bit underwhelming for many people, but I do enjoy it quite a lot, and Vadrik is a fun card that. In addition to having it this theme fitting Asta's role as an astronomer of the Ingelligentsia Guild, the reduction on instant and sorceries represents the trope she feels in the typical RPG party : with her long staff and powerfull buffs, she is of course a mage. The art comes directly from a Light Cone of the game, sadly I could not track down the original artist.
Aventurine is the first one I did. In fact, I started this set in good part because I wanted to make him based on Mr. House, President and CEO. Mechanically, I love this card, but aesthethically it's really not my jam. It also happens to be a perfect fit for Aventurine : - Red represents his gambling behavior, and black his work for the IPC, but the middle and more important color is white, representing all his lore around Preservation. - 0/4 because he's a shielder! - Rolling dice and making treasures because he's a gambler for the IPC. - Penacony is full of robots. Now, they're not really tied to him directly, but with Pirohi's gorgeous artwork, it works wonderfully! The only issue is the artifact type.
There were a lot of possible choices for Kafka. Any creature that steals or benefits from stealing probably would have worked, althought I wanted one that was more than just black. Gonti, Canny Acquisitor sprung to mind as a recent example that worked fine, including but not exclusively because it's also a good body, and Kafka is a formidable fighter. I didn't know this artist beforehand and can only hope the credit was correct here because I can't verify it myself.
For Boothill, it was either Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph or someone working with bounties (like Chevill or Mathas). The more I thought about it, the more red-blue seemed like the correct color identity for the cyber cowboy. Shay Cormac's abilities was very good to reflect Boothill's break mechanics, though! The art is made by Ozlow and I absolutely love it.
Here's the batch! Was a fun, low effort one, using a frame I had made for another project and just playing with colors and cool fanarts.

So now that I've actually watched 10 anime I wanted to rank them from best to worst
1. MSG: the Witch from Mercury; I have not seen any other Gundam show but I don't think this one is leaving #1 spot ever, and Bandai were cowards and homophobic for not showing us either a kiss or the wedding even though they got married, also I'm so mad that I episode 11 during the hug they didn't even say "I love you". The robots became the least interesting part of the robot show (8th I watched)
2. Bocchi the Rock!; probably what I want most anime to be, can't wait for the movie('s), this, G-Witch and Your Name might as well both be #1, also I want a cute Bocchi plush but I can't find one that's affordable without a high delivery :< (7th I watched)
3. Your Name; A movie that I found on a trans subreddit about a year ago, I didn't think it'd be as good as it was or that it'd affect me as much as it did, but I was left in tears when the credits came on, the story went somewhere completely than I thought it would, 10/10. also tied for first place, it deserves to be watched in a movie theater so much (10th I watched)
4. Cowboy Bebop; twink and his bear friend go on space adventures oh and the twink has his own shadow the hedgehog (6th one I watched)
5. BNA: Brand New Animal; the one of 2 studio Trigger show I've seen but from what I've read and heard they have a pretty mid reputation, I really liked it tho, I watched it around the time I came out and it's a pretty good trans allegory (still feel a tad weird about the ending) (4th one I watched)
6. Neon Genesis Evangelion (and the 1st movie); (don't)Get in the robot Shinji, I had been interested in it a bunch, big robots and all that, but only just got to it. The self perpetuating loop of abuse and trauma that Shinji and everyone gets put through because Genduo can't get over the death of his wife is horrible and I can't think of a more despicable antagonist than him, the movie was so fucked up. I still struggle to get what Seele was supposed to represent. I loved every scene where the Eva's get shown as demons, those looked real cool (9th I watched) (watched it entirely cuz of Signalis)
7. Cyberpunk Edgerunners; watched this before I played the game, the abuse that David went through combined with the end that I miss interpreted put me a bit off and I missed the point, but I got it after a rewatch (3rd one I watched)
8. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure; now that I've grown as a person I can safely say that it deserved to drift from spot 1, part 4 is still my fave. And it's still really really good in spite of how low it is (1st I watched)
9. Guilty Gear Xrd & Strive story mode; I am both counting and lumping them together, I liked the oversized Smurf with a gun, also Elphelt bby girl, still would've preferred an actual game tho(5th one I watched)
100000000000. Future Diary; I've watch this in a trade to get someone else to watch JoJo's, they came out better off with that deal, I am also no longer friends with that person (not because of the show but it's funny to mention) (2nd I watched) I still think it's missing some zeros, just add however many you believe it needs
Honorable mentions:
- Signalis; I know it's not an anime but it's anime adjacent and it's the best story I've ever played through, I don't even like horror games or gore at all that much but I will 100% this game and get all the endings, I wish I could talk about it more but spoiling ANYTHING about it feels wrong and making posts where half the words are censored just so fans get it isn't gonna work
- Pokemon; I loved the XYZ and B&W runs but I haven't watched it all and only remember catching it on TV
-Scott Pilgrim takes off, I watched the first few episodes, I don't particularly care for it, but it looks pretty good
Dishonorable mentions:
- Attack on Titan; I've had a run in with the series back when season 1 came out, back when I thought gore was cool, now I have negative interest in the series, I literally couldn't care less and I'm only putting it here to be fair
Conclusion:
After the Witch from Mercury and Evangelion, I don't care for big robots as much as I used to.
Oh and I'm watching some more soon-ish gimme recommendations
#guilty gear#signalis#neon genesis evangelion#your name#jojos bizarre adventure#the witch from mercury#cyberpunk 2077#cowboy bebop#bocchi the rock!#bna: brand new animal

though my eyes could see i still was a blind man || THROUPLE
tagging: Morgan Weston ( @morgan-weston ), Eva Anderson ( @anderseva ) Noah Puckerman
date & time: Thursday, August 29, 2024 @ some time between 3 pm- 5 pm
location: Professor Eva Anderson's fancy smancy PSU classroom
warnings: none!
summary: What was suppose to be them christening Eva's new desk turns into Puck and Eva telling Morgan some not so easy news to digest.
PUCK had been busy as fuck this week. Between Maya starting her sophomore year of high school, which, according to her, is a 'big deal, dad' and juggling... whatever the fuck Morgan, Eva and him were doing and having all the god damn meeting for the security department, and the reappearance of not only Santana but also his father, the ex-Marine had kind of neglected - more like forgot, about the fact that he was starting college in less than a week. So the last couple of days had been him running around stressed. Oh and speaking of baby mama's- people, baby parents returning, there was the no so small matter of, Andy's kid probbaly being Morgan's and him having no fucking idea. When, Eva had shared her suspicious, truthfully it was the only option that made sense. With Andy's general attitude toward Morgan and the timing, it was clear as fucking day, and Morgan deserved to know. Since Andy was determined to punish both their child and Morgan, that left Eva and Puck to bring it up and Puck just didn't know how the hell it was gonna go, because all he knew is what he would do. Sitting on top of the desk, he looked at Eva. "Do we hold his hand for this or do we give him space? What if he's fucking pissed? I don't know what the man looks like angry but it can't be good. Well, nah, he's probably hot as fuck angry, but you know what I mean." Then Puck ran his hand over his face. "What if he's sad?" Puck was really shit at comforting people, he was a fix it kinda guy not a cry on my shoulder type.
EVA To say that this week hadn't been hectic and messy as hell would be quite the understatement. Eva had dragged her feet all summer and put her syllabus off, as well as not deciding how to decorate her classroom, so she was in crunch mode essentially. And as if she needed another thing on her plate, that convo with Andy had left her wanting to fight for multiple reasons, but it also left her at a crossroads, which was why she'd filled Puck in on it. He had a kid himself and while his situation was different, and had no drama, she knew he'd probably have a better idea of what they should do. And of course, he did. While their plans had been to have sex in her classroom at first, things had shifted to them using the neutral space to tell Morgan their suspicions. Could she be wrong about this? Sure. Did Morgan at least deserve to know and get a paternity test done to be certain? Absolutely. Trying not pace around her classroom, Puck speaking pulled her out of her head and she sighed as she glanced over at him. "Maybe we give him space. Just to be safe." She hummed as she opened her laptop and pulled the conversation up just in case Morgan needed to read through it and see why 2+2=4 in this equation. "He'll probably feel a lot of emotions, so we just...let him feel them, and then we ask him what he needs from us." God, this right here was why she didn't want kids herself, or to be involved with them period, but there was no turning back now.
MORGAN was happy. The wind was blowing through the car, the dirt was whirled behind the wheels up into the air, and the sound of "Carry on Wayward Son" by Kansas was blasting through the speakers of the red pick-up truck, as it zoomed from his ranch into the city. The gravel was soon replaced by real concrete, and it didn't take long to find the first stoplight, and therefore the first sign of the city. The cowboy's hands were banging against the steering wheel to the beat of the song, and he was grinning as the guitar solos rang through his ears. He could smell the sweet cake that was next to him on the passenger seat. Eva and Puck had been incredibly busy lately, getting themselves ready for the new semester. It was so cute, how they were both new at this; Puck being a student, and Eva being a professor. So the tall man wanted to show up and support his two lovers in any kind of way that he could. He'd parked the car, grabbed the little cake box and had headed into one of the many buildings on campus. There were so many damn doors, he had to stop and ask some random person for directions. "Ms. Ander- I mean, Professor Anderson's office?" He was shown with a point, and Morgan gave the person a big smile and nodded. "Thank you! Have a great day!" He almost skipped down the hallway towards the door, knowing what two people he'd be seeing behind it, but he knocked a few times - trying to see if he could knock a little happy tune - before he opened the door and greeted Puck and Eva with a grin. "Howdy, y'all!" He moved in to peck each of their lips, and set the cake down. "Chocolate cake. I wasn't sure- I mean, I tried my best. It tastes okay." He chuckled nervously, his hand scratching the back of his head, before he snapped out of it and took a step back to admire the desk that had been assembled, and afterwards the rest of the office. "It's looks really good in here! Very professional!"
PUCK nodded in understanding of what Eva ws saying. It was probably best to give him space, and to not immediately go into talking about how to go about ensuring Morgan get the DNA test he's going to need. Only if Morgan specifically asked. Puck could be a shoulder, he has very nice and broad shoulders that are perfect for crying on, so he can put them to use and just mentally think of how to fix it, so if Morgan does come to him wanting help he'll be ready. Yeah, Puck could do the emotional intelligence thing. Just as he was about to say something, the thought was lost at the Sound of a very happy 'Howdy y'all!'. Dear god this was gonna be rough and Puck was ready to back out and just fuck on the desk like they were originally planning. But then he was getting a sweet little peck and there was a homemade chocolate cake and Puck had never wanted to be the bearer of tense news less than he did right now. But damn if Morgan was the sweetest man he'd ever encountered for making them a whole ass cake. "Hey chocolate cake made by you, gotta be good." He said supportively because he was all about encouraging chocolate cake. "Our girl knows how to make anything look good, don't she?" He looked over at Eva with a smile before getting off the desk to sit in one of the chairs by the cake. "Why'd you make us a cake?" He asked genuinely curious but also stalling.
EVA didn't like this any more than Puck did, but after blowing up with Andy, she was trying to prepare herself to be the calm one. After all, Puck was a parent and was seeing this from a parental POV, whereas she was simply just wanting to do the right thing for someone she cared about. Delivering this news was going to crush Morgan, but someone had to be strong in this situation. Though, as soon as Morgan came bouncing in with a cake, she didn't know how she'd get through this. Smiling softly at the peck, she glanced at the cake and only now did she actually remember him wanting to bake one for them. And it was a very cute gesture, one she would have been a lot more stoked about if not for the elephant in the room. Taking in the compliment about her room, which led to Puck throwing out one too, Eva shook her head. "Okay, okay. I barely did much in here, but thanks, boys." She giggled. She was grateful that Puck decided to stall first, so she pushed the chair to the desk back a little and motioned for Morgan to have a seat. "Yeah, I know the sex has been amazing, but what did we do to deserve a cake? Not that we're complaining, and I'm sure much like anything else you've made for us, this is gonna taste great, but what's this for?"
MORGAN moved around the quaint space, looking around as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. He knew that it was about to become an intense time for both Puck and Eva. They wouldn't have as much time for their little fun shenanigans once work and school kicked in, so Morgan was soaking it all up. For the first time, he really truly understood why people were in relationships; the time spent together, memories being made, getting closer and learning more about each other. It excited him! So, knowing that he probably wasn't going to see them as much going forward, any time spent with the two was now cherished time. Turning around at their questions regarding the cake he'd made for them, a slight red tint grew on his cheeks. "Oh, well, y'know- you guys are working hard, gotta get some sugar in ya!" Was it because he was trying to impress them? Absolutely. For Morgan, one of his main love languages was acts of service - and what better way to show people he cared about them, than through cooking? Baking was something he wasn't so good at, but everyone liked baked goods. He watched as Eva pulled out the chair, and moved to sit down, his hands coming out of his pockets and instead going behind his head as he leaned back. "So, what's up? You guys seemed so quiet when I got here."
PUCK was not thrilled that all of this was happening so early in the development of this... throuple. They really seemed like they were headed somewhere and it's not like going through big shit isn't an importnt part of building any legit relationship, but, what if it was too early? It was hard for Puck to imagine that this kind of news wasn't going to be too much strain for something so new. While Puck wasn't ready to lose this, he was aware it was a possibility. But, it was also possible that this whole thing, while messy, could bring them all closer together. That sounded equally as scary and Puck was kind of ready to just bolt and let Eva do this shit on her own. I mean, she was the one who spoke to Andy, why was he even here? Right, for support. "For future reference I'm cool with there being no reason for a chocolate cake, but that's actually fucking adorable." He'd eat some later, right now his stomach was not feeling the whole food thing, he needed to get all this possible kid shit out first. "Unlike you I've got self control." He said with a smile, regerencing the other night when Puck walked in to Morgan and Eva two second from fucking on the couch. "Nah, we were just waiting for you, big guy." He said, looking to Eva, because she'd definitely explain all this better.
EVA couldn't help but give a half of a smile at Morgan simply baking them a cake simply for being stressed out about the school season starting. It was really thoughtful, and he hadn't even needed to go out of his way for them like this but she appreciated it anyways. She nodded in agreement with Puck's sentiments. "Yeah, I'll take anything you wanna make for me too, for any reason or no reason at all." When Puck didn't make a move to cut the cake and grab a piece, she assumed they were both in the same position of not having an appetite for it at the moment. Deciding to let Puck's other comment slide as Morgan took his seat, she was already trying to sort out how to break this news to him when the ball was practically being thrown in her court. And she would have been slapping Puck's arm if it didn't make sense for her to be the one to break the news, so she hopped up on her desk and turned to face Morgan. "We technically planned for all three of us to break in my new desk, but then something came up." She sighed. "First of all, I may have overstepped a boundary or two with your former lover and friend, Andy. We were talking about you, and they gave a timeline for you two breaking up and them getting pregnant...and to me, it sounded like you might be the father. I tried to push an answer out of them and they got super defensive, and they went from denying it to basically assuming that I was trying to come for their son and threatening to take legal action, and then saying they wouldn't let you around the son because of me now. Which isn't confirmation that you are the father, and I didn't actually come for your son which you can see for yourself but â anyways, I told Puck and we both thought that if anything, you deserve to talk to Andy and get answers in case I'm right." Once it was all out there, she finally exhaled another breath before shrugging. "I'm sorry, that was a lot, and I could be fucking wrong, but it doesn't hurt for you to be sure, right?"
MORGAN smiled as Puck talked. The man oozed confidence like nothing he'd ever seen before; it wasn't until he was in a more intimate setting that that confidence started to crack a little, but Morgan wasn't the type of person to cause those cracks to become bigger. He just appreciated the fact that he wasn't just one big facade, and that there was more to him than that, even if he probably wouldn't let people believe that. Eva, on the other hand, really was confident through and through - in the best way possible. It was the type of confidence where she really believed in herself, and didn't hesitate about her next move. She was tough and badass, and Morgan felt so incredibly honored to have been let in to see the softer and sweeter side of her. It was the sides of these two people that Morgan constantly hungered for; that sweetness, that closeness, the bond that they had. And maybe he was trying everything he could, to further grow it. So his eyes went from Puck to Eva, as it seemed like he kinda passed the baton on to her, and Morgan listened intently as she started telling everything about the conversations that the tall cowboy had blissfully been unaware of. His throat started closing and becoming dry, his heart beat picked up, and he found himself wanting to melt into the chair and not exist anymore. The words 'pregnant', 'son', 'defensive' and 'threatening' seemed so loud in his head. Blinking a few times, Morgan looked away, his breathing getting slightly heavier. He couldn't keep sitting. He was feeling restless, needing to get that anxious energy out of his body. So he stood up quickly, turning his back to Eva and Puck as she finished explaining. And the wheels inside Morgan's head started turning. What was he supposed to say to them? What was he supposed to say to anyone? He walked up to the wall, his fingers pushing one of the framed pictures up slightly, making it hang more straight as he took a deep breath. He knew what to tell them.
"I've already spoken to Andy about it." He said quietly, and turned to the two. "A few weeks ago, I asked them. He's not mine." Morgan walked up to the back of the chair, holding onto it, as if to hold on to his anger and keep it inside. "I've known Andy since I was a kid, they wouldn't lie to me. Not about that. And I believe them. But to threaten you? To take their frustrations with me, and our break-up, out on you?" Morgan's eyes never left Eva's. He wanted to make sure she understood this. His fingers tightened around the fabric of the chair. He was thoroughly pissed off. "To do anything that would cause you any kind of hurt?" He was quiet for a moment as he breathed heavily. The idea of Andy even doing that hurt him. "I'll talk to them about it."
PUCK fell as silent as he's ever been, back a little straighter, like this conversation demanded him to be at attention. As Eva spoke, Puck never looked away from Morgan, he wanted to read every micro-expression and his body language, as if it would give him the ability to read his mind or emotions. Once Morgan turned from them, Puck knew the taller man was in thought and needed a minute to process before he spoke again. Both Morgan and Eva were better at thinking before speaking than Puck was. Looking over at the professor he sighed before his eyes went right back to Morgan. It didn't really surprise him that Morgan had already asked Andy about all of this. I mean if Eva can do the math so could he, but it did surprise him how easily he was willing to accept it as the truth. While Puck didn't know Andy, he knew people and people did fucked up shit when they were angry, hurt and/or scared and from what he knows, Andy was all of those things after their breakup with Morgan. Again, his eyes stayed on Morgan, even as Morgan looked so intently at Eva, like he'd hurt anyone that brought harm to her and he wondered if being regarded by the cowboy felt as incredible as it looked, he'd have to ask Eva later. Standing up, Puck made a little nose to break the moment with his hair, which, interrupting moments between these two is starting to become his thing. "Look I don't know Andy but I do know hurt and angry folk don't act like themselves. I'm not saying they're lying to you, I'm saying they could be and I'm telling you as a father, you're gonna be heartbroken if that little boy is yours and you lose anymore time with him." All he could think was how devestated he'd have been if Maya had been kept from him, if he had missed two years of firsts. "You owe it to that kid and to yourself to make damn sure it ain't you no matter what Andy says." Maybe he had spoken out of turn but it was too late now.
EVA had half expected Morgan to need to get up, so she didn't even flinch when it happened. He was much calmer than most people would be in his shoes, but she was used to this sort of softness to him anyways so it was on brand for him. But as she watched him adjust a frame on her wall, all she could do was sigh. That was until he started explaining that he'd already asked Andy and they'd said no. That was exactly what Andy had said to her when she'd first started asking, before they got defensive. It had been bullshit, and for someone who could sell anyone anything, she knew the antics of someone trying to craft a narrative that was false and then breaking when someone challenged it. This was probably the first time the kid's paternity had come into question like this, it seemed to her as though Andy hadn't been prepared for it. Letting Morgan get worked up over Andy taking their frustration out of her, she kept her eyes locked on his until he'd finished. This situation had just gone from messy to pure hell, and as she glanced over at Puck as he spoke, she was grateful that he was pushing this as much as she was. "Puck's right. You can check the conversation for yourself if you want, but..let's just take a step back here." Eva suggested, nonchalantly shrugging her shoulders. "Andy implied two things: they're still in love with you and can't be just friends with you, and they still think you're the same person you were three years ago and that you can't make time for work. They can't let you back into their life, let alone the kid's, if you're going to do what you did before. Their words, not mine. I tried to tell them that you're different now, that you have no problem making time now, and it fell on deaf ears." She explained, tempted to roll her eyes at how hard Andy had pushed back on it when they didn't know the man Morgan was now. "And don't worry about them coming for me. I can handle myself." She reassured him with a small smile.
MORGAN's jaw clenched as he stayed silent. He didn't know what to say, didn't know what to do, didn't even know what to think! He was frustrated, sad, angry. He could see where Puck and Eva were coming from, pushing for him to do something. All the signs were pointing towards it. Why else would Andy be so angry at him? It made sense! He didn't make time for them before, so why would he make time for their kid now? And that kind of mindset was being held against him. It was why they were so angry with him! But then again, Morgan came back to the fact that Andy just simply wouldn't lie to him. They never had before, why would they start now? Morgan's head was starting to hurt, as he was being pulled in both directions, and the palm of his hand rubbed his temple softly as he thought about what was next. "Andy's not in love with me. Is there still love between us? Yes! But it's the kind of love that never leaves two old best friends." Morgan claimed, looking between his two lovers. His voice was slightly louder than before, but he also knew other people were working in offices next door. "D'ya really not think they'd tell me, if the boy was mine?" Morgan asked, almost hesitant and like he didn't believe it himself. "I just..." closing his eyes, Morgan ran a hand through his hair, groaning quietly in frustration. "I'll talk to them." He sighed, a sudden wave of surrendering washing over him. He looked back at the two gorgeous people in front of him, sad that all of this had happened. "I'm sorry."
EVA was certain that they'd somehow taken a trip to delulu land when Morgan first shot down the idea that Andy was still in love with him. It was wild and utterly ridiculous to her that they'd still be clutching onto feelings from three years ago; however, she'd never fallen in love herself, or had a kid, so all she could do was assume that this was the type of dumb shit people did when they had one or both of those. Her jaw dropped yet again when he questioned whether they thought Andy would lie about the kid's paternity, which was the whole reason they were here after all. She just stared at him blankly as he seemed to be at least agreeing to talk to Andy, and then when Puck didn't immediately speak up, she took that as her cue and grabbed her laptop, scrolling to the important parts of that convo. "Cowboy, listen to me closely. Their exact words were: "I'm still bitter, I still love him, I can't just be his friend." Oh, and then my personal favorite was: "I just don't see a future where he and I end up together anymore and as it stands, I can't see myself going back to being just friends with him either." I might not know or like Andy very much at this moment, but that's not friend love. In fact, they also doubt that you two were ever really friends, which I'm gonna guess is them thinking that you leaving them means you weren't a real friend or lover or whatever." Eva stated before she sat her laptop down and exhaled a small breath. "I'm not saying they're a bad person, and my guess is that Andy is lying because they're afraid that you won't stick around for your son just like you didn't stay for them. Pretty sure it's also because they don't want you around as just a father to your son if they can't have you back as a lover, but that's a whole other issue. I can't judge their way of trying to protect their son â but if he is yours, you have every right to know and to be given a fair chance to prove Andy wrong. That's all we're saying."
PUCK was grateful when after Morgan spoke Eva was right there to swoop in with a response, because Puck just couldn't stop looking at Morgan. Why did he seem so calm? I mean, Puck noticed the jaw clench and that was a clear indicator of growing frustration and it made him wonder how much he could hold down before he all came pouring out and when it did who would it be aimed at, what would it look like. Morgan had already made it clear that he'll be damned if any harm comes to Eva, so he probably wouldn't direct it there. Would it be him? Would Puck have to bare his anger and frustration? He could handle it, he had endured much worse. As Eva kept talking Puck could only imagine hearing Andy's own words was tough. And very uncharacteristically, Puck wanted to comfort Morgan and tell him, no matter what it's all gonna be okay. That they would be there with him to figure this out and help him through it, but instead he stood where he was and waited for Eva to finish because even though what she was saying might be hard to hear she was 100% right and Morgan needed to hear it. "All this is... a lot. I'm guessing it's gut wrenching to think your Andy, your childhood friend, could maybe do something like this to you, but it's just a possibility, something to prepare for." Puck tried to reassure without sugarcoating, too much. "You definitely ain't gotta be sorry. Life's always throwing shit at us that we aren't sure we can catch but it ain't just you, you know? you got people. Not to sound like an after school special, but you aren't alone in any of this, man." Again, Puck was shit at this, but he was trying.
MORGAN ran a hand through his hair, watching Eva pick up her laptop and pull out the evidence. He was beginning to get frustrated. He knew it wasn't their intentions, he knew that all they were doing, was to make him aware of it and ask him to do something - especially if Oakley was his after all! And that it was all coming from the best of intentions! But as Eva read out loud exactly what Andy had said, he couldn't help but almost feel like he was being shown his mistakes, or even being made to choose. Some irrational part of him was whispering in his ear that this could also be Eva and Puck's way of getting rid of Morgan. But that was the completely irrational part of him that he, nine times out of ten, didn't believe in after all. As Eva kept explaining, Morgan had to look down at the ground. He hated this. It was heartbreaking, hearing that his ex had spoken to his...situation like that, but also that his situation suspected his ex of not telling the truth. Eva finished and Puck picked up, following after, and Morgan's eyes shot up, finding his dark brown ones. The ones that he could find himself staring into and get lost in for way too long. Nodding along slowly, Morgan sucked in a deep breath, and nodded to himself, making a decision in his mind. "Thank you for this." He said and pushed the chair in, giving both Eva and Puck a look that was determined. "Enjoy the cake." And with that, Morgan started walking, leaving the room. He almost felt the need to be sick, but he just had to get away. He needed time to think about how the hell to approach Andy like this. And how to make it up to Puck and Eva. But that required him to be alone. And so, he left; left to go home to think.

though my eyes could see i still was a blind man || THROUPLE
tagging: Morgan Weston, Eva Anderson & Noah Puckerman
date & time: Thursday, August 29, 2024 @ some time between 3 pm- 5 pm
location: Professor Eva Anderson's fancy smancy PSU classroom
warnings: none!
summary: What was suppose to be them christening Eva's new desk turns into Puck and Eva telling Morgan some not so easy news to digest.
word count: 4,834

911 rewatch thoughts:
Season 1
Episode 1: BABY BUCK
Is that why they call you firehose? đ
Bobbyâs we leave that at the door⊠uh huh for now we do.
Athena called him cowboy đ
Also where are Henâs glasses?
Episode 2: The đą
DONâT YOU DARE TELL BUCK HE FAILED HIM.
I hope Buckâs therapist looses EVERYTHING. She is the ick đ€ąđ€ąđ€ą
I love Athena too much, Michael is an ass and I want someone to smack him.
I think Abby was interesting the first watch through but Iâm feeling very meh about her this time, like can we be done yet?
I miss Eddie đ©
I knew May had an attempt and I forgot it was in this episode đ
Episode 3 - bounce house off the cliff
The winch is fun đ
WHAT THE FUCK MICHAEL??? WHY DID HE COME IN THE HOSPITAL MICHAEL??
Momma Athena is FIERCE and I love her đ
âThis girlâ Michael thatâs your fucking daughter đ
Athena please use that left hand to smack that man ugh
Tatianna can go away now
Chimney IS a keeper but you very very much are not
Chim đ
Bobby - letâs go itâs Chimney đ
Bobbyâs our job end right at these doors like always - ok Bobby tell me that a couple seasons from now Bobby
GO HEN!!
Why does Buck keep answering Abbyâs phone calls when heâs on a call?? - I think Abby bugs me more than I thought ugh đ
I know it sucks but Iâm glad Tatianna left, that kind of resentment sucks the life out of everything and I donât think sheâs a bad person. I mean itâs mean and she sucks but I donât think it makes her a bad person.
Am I not loving Carla here or do I just want Chris and Eddie?
Am I not loving Carla here or is she just around Abby?
Hey Chim you can do the maneuver
Itâs alright his family is right here đđđ
Episode 4: the plane crash
Why did I think this was the golf club episode?? Iâm gonna cry
Also why the fuck donât people listen to flight attendants? And why do you think the bathroom is a safe place to be when landing?
Buck LEAVE THE BOOK ALONE.
Athena please donât go anywhere near that girl - but I get it do what you gotta do
Buck I told you to leave, I know Bobby Iâm a terrible listener â€ïž
How did I miss that Bobby and the mom got pulled out by a helicopter? That was fucking cool!
I love you Annie and thatâs not going to die even if I do today - ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME đđđ
Abby this find this phone call acceptable.
Go Athena!!! I love you đ Angela Bassett is a certified bad ass!
Is there not some version of Hippa for first responders?
Bobby đ I donât think I have enough tears for everyone đ
Athena I think we both have issues asking for helpâŠ
Buck Iâm gonna kick the door down. Hen no I have a key. Buck hasnât even been there a year and heâs already Bobbyâs important Iâm getting to him now.
Nope Iâm definitely loving Carla! I just miss the boys and Abby bothers me.
Episode 5 - the wedding crash
I should count how many times Buck does some sort of rope rescue
Ugh I forgot how much I hate Eva. Sheâs a walking mass destruction.
Youâre right Hen sheâs not your girl. I wish you would keep it that way.
Buck âI gotta fix itâ Buckley - I feel like he doesnât give himself enough credit for how smart and resourceful he is. Like yeah heâs a mid twenties dude and heâs gonna be a little dumb sometimes but he gets shit done and he takes care of people and heâs good at it. Someone needs to love and cuddle him real good.
What kind of money do you have to be making to be able to rent two apartments and be able to afford drugs and alcohol? That shits expensive.
Also watching this basically back to back as the story line with Amir really shows how far Bobby gets. I know he mentions it to the priest that the building wasnât up to code but I donât think he ever fully reconciles that with himself. He was a fucking mess and needed rehab and had issues but I donât think he actually killed those people, the landlord did.
I donât think Hen really understands how much Karen knows and sees. Also Hen wearing sunglasses keeps a separation between them. I think itâs a great way to have Hen see Karen while Hen tries to hide from Karen because Hen knows this is an issue and I think Hen also knows sheâs gonna fuck up and she does.
The first time I watched I like the relationship between Buck and Abby and I do think in a lot of ways itâs a good growing relationship for him but I canât get over how she leaves him and now their age difference BOTHERS me, he left existence bothers me.
I love Bobby and how much he loves Hen and Chim and Buck â€ïž
Episode 6 - the one where Athena almost dies⊠the first time
Why do men do such stupid shit when trying to propose??? Nice job landing in the golf course though.
I love that Athena is already hanging out at the firehouse, but Iâm not sure that she likes Abby.
This lady is fucking crazy. Like real crazy. I canât watch this crazy shit imma skip most of this.
Bobby tying Bucks tie is very dad behavior and I love it.
The music in this show is amazing, there goes my heart for an organ transplant in Valentineâs Day (with a kidney transplant)
I feel like they were trying to get Abby more into hands on stuff but the audience didnât love her. Like having her do an emergency tracheotomy on Buck, what. Like yes keep our boy alive but why was that necessary.
I know they had to have something happen to Athena for the drama of it all but I feel like even with all the family bs she has going on her instincts would have kept her out of the crazy lady situation.
Even when Abby is being good to Buck and saving his life I still canât get past how she leaves him later and I just canât like her.
Also their age difference bothers me, sheâs 42 and heâs what 26? And at some point she says something about Buck being a boy toy but even here Buck is trying to be more than Buck 1.0 and heâs doing so good and I feel like she doesnât actually want or appreciate that and I think he deserves a whole lot better.
