My 5th great grandmother was a Linklater, which basically every single Linklater comes from Orkney and are therefore related somehow or another eventually - but I can be more accurate! Because I am a giant nerd!

Hamish's 4x great grandparents, and my 7x great grandparents are the same people! Magnus and Elisa (possibly short for Elisabeth), from the late 1700s lmao

The generational difference is basically that Hamish's line had kids really old, and my line had kids really young

Family Feud Nominations, Who is the Best Doctor Who Family

If I've missed a character out of one of the families let me know (within reason, I imagine all these families are massive in the EU, so prioritise tv or significant characters)

Currently, the only rule is no families may inculde anyone who is even ambiguously The Doctor, it'll get super complicated super fast imo

Any characters, eg River, who can link up multiple different families to create a single massive family unit will be treated on a case by case basis. If it is possible to pick one of the smaller family units that they are a part of to include them in while not including them in any of the others (in a way everyone will agree at least makes sense) they will be included in that family only, otherwise they will not be included

Ah, the Fosters. What a beautiful mess they are...

As you can see, Zelda never married but eventually had a son with her teenage sweetheart (and long-time lover) Marcus Irving. Laurie (Romance/ Knowledge) decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a musician himself. He eventually fell in love with a fellow romance sim, Hattie Kicklighter and even wanted to marry her. She left him at the altar, though, and he ended up marrying one of his other loves, Anita, a popularity sim, on a rebound. Nevertheless, they've been rather happy, eventually having a son named Bruno.

Maisie married Luis Carver and had two sons with him. The eldest, Hamish (Popularity/ Family), also decided to follow in his father's footsteps and recently took over his businesses after he passed. He married Cleo Irving (Fortune/ Popularity) and had two daughters with her, Catriona and Isobel. He has recently caught Cleo cheating with Johnny Youngblood and they got divorced. However, there might be a reunion in the works.

Hamish's younger brother Fergus lives on a farm across the road from the Foster Family Farm. Hamish and his family lived with him but after Fergus' wife had the twins, I made the executive decision to move them out and back into the main household. Fergus (Fortune/ Family, just like his mother!) met Rosemary at Agave Bar and they have been besotted with each other ever since. She's a family sim as well (primary, though) and so they had a lot of children to no one's surprise. Rosamund and Hadley are already well into their teenage years, while twins Brandon and Florence were a bit of a surprise to everyone, but they are about to grow up soon as well, hopefully giving everyone on the farm time to... actually work the farm.

All three boys of generation two actually grew up together as Zelda and Maisie decided to share the farm rather than one of them moving out. They are also quite close in age since Zelda had Laurie late in life. Imagine my surprise when Bruno and Isobel had two bolts (they're second cousins on both sides... yay). It's a weird situation and I'm interested to see how it'll play out. They were each other's first kisses and I was horrified.

season 9 vol 8 thoughts: my hype has died down from last week, now Stefan is just another man, and I'm again critical of the choice to paywall everything and spend so much time focused on Kat

first of all before I post screenshots (of which there are few btw bc it wasn't super eventful imo) I did have a moment looking at my mc and was like damn get her some brown contacts so she looks different that's why. and I think I may have accidentally switched her skin tone too, point being, as a result, I take back what I said last week about not going for Cassius bc he looks like my mc's cousin

but the lunch with Uma, I have mixed feelings on the concept in general. Like for story it's interesting bc the other person could lie, but if I think about it like it would actually happen on love island, maybe the other person downplays some stuff, but straight up lying? nah. and then it would in theory get the girls to stick (just bc usually it's the guys that are being messy and flirting it up with the casa girls), but in my head the postcard/video always does the opposite. it's like a sneak preview into what the guys are doing so it encourages the girls to get angry or get back at them

In fact, lunch with casa girl to spill secrets usually happens AFTER casa so having it here is weird.

in execution though, no doubt, kinda lame. I mean I like the insights into casa, but you could get that info next week when everyone's together or in movie night or like a mean tweets challenge or whatever. You have to pay for info so it's already awful but also MC doesn't get the option to lie/be vague to Uma, so she just tells Uma everything we the audience already know and then Uma doesn't really tell us anything. Like we don't even get to know the names of the other two casa girls and we told her about everyone.

Speaking of Uma, they couldn't have fixed her hair this season????

Finn's being flirty, sure, and I might be kicked off his route now (I'm not sure if rejecting him by the pool did that), so I don't know if he acts any different if you're on his route bc he claims to have changed???

Jude's a mess who gives a fuck but also that observation may be apparent to the audience, but I wouldn't picture a casa girl saying it. LIUSA S6 has a perfect example: it's not the casa girls saying "oh he sucks because he's been egging on the other guys" but them saying "oh he's the sweetest, because he's encouraging the other guys to explore connections" and then in game it would be letting the reader figure out what that means. it's in part them always having such surface level writing (tell not show) but it gives all their "villains" this weird gameplayer vibe. like I don't think Uma and Jude are genuine and they are acutely aware of the public, but I don't think they should be written like that, I think they should just be written to be assholes. Uma's a liar and Jude's a bully. Not saying we can't have gameplayer characters, just don't make it so obvious.

Anyway, coming back into the Villa and then for some reason you have to pay gems to tell the other girls information?? I don't like the paying gems to receive information but this is more confusing bc it's the opposite lol. Actually, Kat, if you want to know what happened on the date you're gonna have to give ME 17 gems.

there's a chat here MC has with Stefan about how he didn't know what he was expecting before coming back but once he saw MC it was clear he wanted her. And just to repeat what I said last week, Stefan should've started casa a little upset with MC (instead of having it be Lyle) and then ask her for forgiveness midway through the volume and here is where that chat can go where he's like yeah I tried but they weren't you.

and then I decided to give Cassius a fighting chance bc Stefan has that advantage of being her ex and i think MC should explore her options and im still mad at Marshall breaking things off with S6 MC. Cassius seems sweet and he so is during the date. It's just a shame I don't like doing the cutesy loyal casa boy route ever. If he was an OG though? Goodbye Chen and Henri

there's a part he asks about MC's job which I've been begging for someone to bring up and this chat was really cute

Ice cream thing only reminds me that I'm kinda put off the Natasha route now. If she wasn't the go to character to give exposition about Stefan and MC, then maybe. But now, I'm so stuck always having to not choose her and it's a shame. It also feels like with how much she talks about him and knowing that she brings him back if you don't, plus the Hamish stuff pre casa, it just feels like MC is second choice to these other guys. it's not as bad as Kelly, who straight up does say she's here for Finn, but it's irritating. I know Claudia kinda ends up doing that too towards the end of casa when she decides to work things out with Theo, but idk it feels different this time.

Kat screaming about going exclusive with Lyle during the date was so on brand for her to draw all attention on her I don't even know if I can be annoyed bc it made sense, I just wish the ratio of time spent talking about Kat was less. Like it doesn't need to get cut down, I just think we deserved a few more scenes where MC gets to talk with the guys.

the casa guys' day wear outfits are very good imo, very stylish, except Marshall.. it feels unnatural to see him in those colors idk

omg the wild night thing. first off, once again annoyed at texts cutting people off, like how many times can you stand doing that, fusebox writing team???? but uh sure, Marshall hears about this wild night between Stefan and Chen. and you hear about it in the game

Which side note, I hate the game and I also could've sworn we've already played it in casa this season. but I guess it's just to show once again that Kat and Lyle are having problems. Could've been a chat instead. Only useful piece of information was that Cassius likes nerds and I'm like damn once again, in another life, would be my pick. Pretty much everything else about the LI's was information we've already learned (even the info about Cassius I'm sure if I romanced him earlier in casa it would've been obvious).

Also just once again, taking a backseat in the game. it's like they think the player doesn't wanna be wrong so they settle for just sitting around but that's much more fun to have the chance to be wrong. also bc it would influence people to replay I think so they can get the right answers.

anyway, wild night thing, I did fork over the gems to find out and i know this happens every gem scene for info but it was especially annoying to me this time that MC pulls him aside and is like "tell me the story" and hes like "i dont know... do you really wanna hear the full story?" im like YES she pulled you aside for this. MC confronts Stefan and I saw what yall posted about bruno so I went ahead and asked about Claudia and she was dancing with her partner from her season, and for me that's Theo and what a shame. sorry I'm a jealous ex I don't even know if my S8 mc is happy with Jin.

ANYWAY for a split second I thought the "wild night" was alluding to Stefan and Chen hooking up? which, I think wouldve been a great option. and if fusebox is so scared of making all the LI's bi, then I would've voted Stefan is bi and then Chen/Henri/Lyle/Jude maybe aren't but like hey they gave it a shot. But alas, no...

Then Stefan says he was crushing on a DJ and I know in this instance it makes less sense for them to pick a real person bc they say that the DJ tried to hook up with Chen, but I do miss some like random info about the characters and their type. like, I just remember being surprised S2 Lucas's celebrity crush was teyana taylor and I want stuff like that again

so not wild but I guess Stefan was ashamed he screwed over Chen. Then he was like "isn't that so cool of Chen to give up a hookup for you?" and idk I don't care about DJs so I was glad MC to be like oh boohoo whatever

Lyle's speech to Kat was cringe but I'm giving him benefit of the doubt bc I would actually like him and Kat to be happy so Kat can stop bothering Finn and stop bothering MC.

And Kat of course goes to flirt with whoever you went on a date with, and I guess luckily, I happened to pick Cassius who I wasn't gonna bring back anyway. Then you get like five lines of dialogue each with Marshall and with Stefan (who's hanging out with Natasha) which could've and should've been longer for final chats.

Then stick or twist just feels so tacked onto the end of the episode, but it should be like a huge thing. They stretch that shit out SO LONG in the show. Like in the three episodes this volume, the second one should end with cliffhanger announcing the girls are going back to casa that night. then the next episode starts with final chats and the map opens up and you can talk to Stefan but maybe Natasha interrupts, then Cassius saying he understands you gotta do what you gotta do, then Marshall who gives you one last plea he's changed (similar to the actual game again it should be longer). Add on Lyle talking about how he feels he fucked up with Kat here instead of right before the firepit. Honestly also a chat with Kat and Kelly wouldn't hurt either, with Kat contemplating her options and then seeing what Kelly's thinking about Finn, just to remind you about the guys back in the villa.

Then pep talk in the dressing room where it's revealed/implied what each girl is gonna do (Natasha can be vague since if you pick Stefan then she picks Marshall, so just have her say she's not sticking with Hamish for sure) AND THEN stick or twist. And I think each couple should be revealed in order. I don't think we need to give Kat too much time in the spotlight, so Kat goes first, picks Lyle, then walks into the Villa and the girls and casa boys are waiting outside but can hear them yelling (bc I just assume there's gonna be yelling around kat). And then MC picks, walks in with her guy or single, and then sees Uma and Chen together, then cliffhanger.

and that being said, despite what I wrote about the date with Uma, I like the idea that MC spilled who the casa guys are and then she made the decision to go for someone insecure and easy so she could stay and then couple with the casa guy she really wants later, and it just happens to be the guy she wanted was the one MC chose. Or alternatively, she did actually want the villa boy she picked (and also was lying during the date about him being close with Jessica). Very snakey and calculated for love but not too gameplayer-y for my distaste.

but for predictions, I think Hamish sticks bc he said he was gonna try to be loyal. I think Finn sticks bc if you're on his route, it would throw another wrench if he had a new girl. Chen/who you're with obviously twists. I could see Jude twisting, but he gives off the vibe that he sticks to try to win the show. In that case, there are two single islanders so which I'm fine with but fusebox likes to dump single islanders post casa even though it doesn't make sense to, but maybe they get the other islanders to choose to save Hamish (or I'm wrong and Hamish twists). I could also see them saying if MC is single then she chooses a boy to couple with, and can save Hamish since clearly a route (and if this is the case then I would heavily consider replaying the last chapter to keep Hamish in the game).

overall, like I said up top, kinda back to my normal level of enjoyment for this season. I was really hopeful after last week, but I was distracted by pretty faces. also I started playing perfect match and the Stefan thing reminded me of the whole neighbor thing going on in perfect match and in both it's really such a shame they send in someone from MC's past to use the second chance romance trope to distract me from a drop dead gorgeous woman named Natasha.

oh other thing, with the way my game has been going, everyone is in a mixed race couple except for Kelly and Finn, which I think is fun bc then I can pretend the audience is tweeting some version of "why is this season giving shondaland right now?"

It is so hard to find Scottish female voices I was about to bite the bullet and make it Kelly macdonald  anywayyyyy there's a short version of their story under the cut i'm not gonna write out a whole long thing so pardon the straightforwardness

This story goes…a little differently. 

After the events of Brave, Clan Dunbroch continued to prosper, now in closer link than ever with the other clans. Princess Merida ascended to the throne, but she never did take a lover or have children. Hamish, Hubert and Harris, all grown up, went on to find their own partners and lead their own lives. Their eldest children—Shaun of Macguffin, Ailsa and Alec Macintosh, and Lachlan of Dingwall—are now all eligible for the Dunbroch throne

Now let’s turn back time a little bit.

The ancient kingdom is crumbling. The first prince has gone on a rampage and Isla has just watched her husband turn into a massive bear. 

She flees. 

It takes her two days to find the witch’s cottage. By then the spell had been set in stone, and the witch can tell the woman is with child. She’s not heartless, she wants to help, but all magic comes with a price. So she does the only other thing she knows how and shepherds them through the magic circle to the realm of the faeries, where no one will ever find them.

Lachlan is certain he can win the competition for the throne. He wants it. His grandfather definitely wants it. He’s strong, skilled and fast and not afraid to knock his cousins out of the way, however close they may have been as children. Besides, he’s the Queen’s favorite—how could he lose?

The four clans have all gathered for three weeks of festivities and friendly competition before the actual games. After one too many ruthless victories, Lachlan gets in a fight with his cousins. After being scolded by his father for his behavior as well, the young prince has had enough and takes off into the woods to cool down. 

He brings back a girl.

An odd girl, to be sure; her thick braids make two strange piles on her head and she won’t ever tell him where she’s from, but there are no kingdoms or settlements around here, so a girl lost in the forest needs help! She introduces herself as Saoirse before the Queen and quickly gets welcomed to stay. 

Lachlan likes her at first. She’s fiery and mischievous and actually manages to beat him in combat. It’s just a sparring match, he tells himself, it doesn’t actually matter. Except it does matter. Because Saoirse is getting way too close to the Queen and she’s too good at everything for her- her existence to be natural. Lachlan's cousins loved her, meanwhile Lachlan himself was only growing more irritable and distant. Was she replacing him? What was more, there were rumors that the Queen wanted to let Saoirse, an outsider, compete for the throne! Too bad no one believed Lachlan when he tried to tell them. They all think he’s simply jealous. 

And then one night there’s a bear in the castle.

Understandably, Lachlan panics and draws his sword. He’s heard the stories. What happened to his father, his brothers and the late Queen Elinor. Heard about the demon bear Mor’du. If he doesn’t slay the beast then-

But just before Lachlan calls for help, the bear disappears and a wide eyed Saoirse is standing in its place. Her hair fell loose down her shoulders, revealing furry ears atop her head. 

“W-wait! It’s not- Lachlan listen-“

“Monster!”

“No!”

He had won. He had proof, right there under her hair! If he brought her before the Queen and lords, they’d probably kill her, but so what?

In a desperate flight for life, Saoirse ran through the palace as a bear to escape. The clans awoke with much clamor and the hunt was on, but the beast had disappeared into the night. 

The very next morning, the clans set out again, splitting into groups to canvas the forest more thoroughly. Lachlan set off on his own--he knew just where to go. 

He didn’t find the bear at the stone circle like before. He did find a wisp. A will-o-the wisp! Here to lead him to his fate, undoubtedly. 

Lachlan followed the little spirits eagerly, ignoring the way the trees grew thick and dark, and stone jutted further from the ground. At first, he thought the stone archway was a cave. Inside lay the bear, curled up by a pile of rubble, asleep.

“Wake up.” Lachlan kicked it. He had more honor than to kill a sleeping enemy. 

She transformed back as she startled awake. That was fine, a human was easier to drag back anyway. She was clutching a bow, a sword lay on the stone steps behind her. 

“Did you steal these from the castle?!”

“No, I made them you brute!”

Lachlan scoffed. ���You made them?” 

“Yes. Did you think your weapons just popped out of thin air, your highness?”

“I- w- no. But you’re a beast, what the devil do you need weapons for?”

“I'm a human,” she hissed. It was then that Lachlan noticed. Stairs?? And were those carvings? 

“Is this the ancient kingdom? Do you live here?”

“No. I just…come here sometimes.”

“Why?”

The look on her face made him think she might snap at him, but she kept herself in check. Instead, she said, “becoming the kingdom hero won’t make you loved, you know.”

“What? I’m loved, what are you talking about?”

She raised an eyebrow. “Really? Because you don’t act like it. Are we sure I’m the monster here?”

“Yes!”

The girl huffed. “Well, I hope you figure yourself out soon, before it’s too late. You’re really lucky you know. You have so many people who care about you. Four whole clans at your fingertips.” Her own fingers traced a withered carving on cracked stone. She muttered something about “mum told me not to come back here” and stood. Lachlan readied his weapon again, not realizing he had ever lowered it. She didn’t attack him. She simply hefted another massive rock over to her spot from the other side of the cave and laid back down. “Do it then. Go on, I’m ready.”

“What?” 

Saoirse actually managed to look annoyed. “You’re planning to kill me right? For ‘attacking your castle’?” Her voice ridiculed him, yet she seemed completely serious. “Go on then.”

Lachlan actually dropped his weapon then. “What is wrong with you?” What was so important about the stone then that she wanted it close? “Don’t you- I mean okay, I understand being suicidal, but don’t you have someone who would miss you?”

“Nope.”

Lachlan’s heart fell. He dropped down beside her. Surely she couldn’t be serious. “Where do you live?”

A mournful frown pushed her bottom lip out like she was about to cry. “Right here. I was supposed to live here. Ages ago. But it- it got destroyed.” As if an afterthought, she added, “I was never going to hurt you, you know.”

Lachlan finally took a look at the carvings she had rolled over to lean against. The four brothers, he could recognize easily enough. He had heard the story more than enough times for a lifetime from his father and aunt. There were people with them. The king, he assumed, was one, standing in the middle with the crown. The others were three women—the fourth brother didn’t have one, but he held a little boy in front of him. All of the brothers had a family, Lachlan realized. Even the eldest, though he didn’t seem to have a child yet. 

“We never learned about them,” the prince murmured.

“No, you wouldn’t have. They all died.”

“But- but this is all ancient.” She must be crazy. “You can’t live here.”

All in all, they returned to the castle. Lachlan apologized and made up with his family. Saoirse, with some trials of trust, was welcomed back as well. Eventually, Lachlan does take the throne. Except there were never any competitive games. Or rather, the lead up was the competition, in a sense. The Queen wanted to test the heirs' genuine traits and familial bonds. With the ability to admit he was wrong and put family above himself, Lachlan passed with flying colors.

Happy 2nd Gotcha Day to my cats!

They are both grey tabbies, two of a litter of three that were born under my cousin’s neighbor’s house outside of Charlotte NC, we think sometime in November 2021.

Piper is small and light grey and dainty but will Fight You. Her favorite places to be are either in my lap, or on the desk in the office where she can Supervise the neighborhood children at play through the front window. Her favorite things include chasing lights (laser pointers, car headlights on the wall, light reflected on the wall from my watch, etc), making things go “bang bang bang,” and tuna-flavored treats.

Hamish is dark grey and he chomk. He can look ridiculously handsome and regal when he wants to, but he is also a bit of a derp. He is also a great big fraidy-cat. A non-exhaustive list of things he is afraid of includes the FedEx man, plastic grocery bags, my work shoes, and the vacuum cleaner. His favorite things include lounging in the cat tree, getting up on his hind legs to see what he can reach/knock off of the bathroom counter, and chittering at the birds through the porch door. He sleeps on my feet or snuggled up against my legs every night, but has never willingly let me pick him up in my arms.

They make my house at home, and I’m glad they’ve allowed me to be their person.

“Hamish says,” he looks down at the floor, “that I am not your son. That Fergus alone is.”

 

If he wasn’t his own cousin and the Laird’s heir.. he is. Taken a few breaths, he forces himself to calm down.

 

“Jeremiah James Fraser, you are my son. You are the first lad to have my heart. Fergus, he is first from my body but you, my darling, are first from my heart. You are my first son. If mama and I have a dozen more, that won’t change.”

 

His body relaxes. A hand reaches up to take Jamie’s . “Thank you da.”

 

“You’re welcome Mon mhac.”

 

“Hamish, a word.” Jemmy is back with his mama. His da set off to find the lad that has caused him to doubt.

 

He moves away from the other lads playing swords.

 

“Aye?”

 

Kneeling, he looks him in the eyes. “Jeremiah is my first son. Fergus my second. Understand?”

I’ll explain. You know all those characters we know exist because they were in sequels, series, or in the background of the main stories? The ones old enough to remember how things were before Auradon was founded, the ones sent to the Isle even if they were children? The firsborns of Heroes who are too old to fit in with Ben’s age group? Those ones, who we assume must be part of the Descendants Universe, but we have no info about.

Now, I want to compile a list and I’d love for help from the fandom. So I’ll put here the ones I thought about and you can add the ones you remember in the notes (or PM me) so I can update this post with all the additions and make this a masterpost for everyone to rely on for fics.

I’m talking about only and exclusively about characters that appeared in Disney materials, not OCs. Please don’t send OCs, they don’t fit in this list and I’m not interested in them here. People mentioned in the Descendants extra materials (the books, game and so on) won’t be counted either. For Harlowe Hornbeam - 🎻 VIOLIN — does your oc play any instruments? what is their skill level (beginner/intermediate/advanced/virtuoso/etc)? Harlowe's older brothers had more of a musical education than he did. By the time his parents got around to having him, they were a little sick of dealing with the cacophony of children playing instruments poorly at all hours. There was a brief moment where Harlowe was taught to play the fiddle, a traditional instrument for his people, but he didn't stick with it, instead keeping to his trade of sewing. This has been a (not serious) point of contention with his bard brother Hamish, who always wanted to start an obnoxious family band, but did not succeed. It is of note that Harlowe is true appreciator of music, despite his own lack of playing skill. He loves it, and does have a rather good ear and memory for songs. His live-in maid was a harpischord prodigy from an incredibly young age, a true wunderkind, and he encourages her to keep playing to the point of having an instrument commissioned and installed in his home just for her. Despite his general dislike of mages, he has a soft spot for bards. He'd kill me for saying, but he has a very pleasant and unique singing voice, too. Don't tell anyone I told you.

💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know. He's ambidextrous. He's pangender (any pronouns, but defaults to he/him because of society's perception of him. he doesn't mind this.). His clan's heraldry is "purpure a unicorn rampant argent in full, gyronny or", which is fancy talk for a reared-up silver unicorn on a pizza-slice pattern of purple and yellow colours.

🍎 RED APPLE — where was your oc born? do they still live in/around their place of birth or do they live somewhere else? how do they feel about their birthplace? Harlowe was born in the town of Yarlford, the "capitol" of the Pales, the county of the Old Kingdom that's cordoned off by his people, the Lightfoot halflings. Yarlford is actually incredibly close to the human-ruled City of Vitroneaux, where he lives now, but the halflings take the border very seriously, and do not allow outsiders in under any circumstance (with the one exception of the Vit royal family during times of distress). The Hornbeam clan owns huge swathes of land in Yarlford and the Pales, and hold power as a sort of dynastic political force. His brother Hudson is the Mayor of Yarlford, which is their highest political rank. His father, Hemmingway, was also Mayor for almost his entire adult life. This has mired Harlowe into the politicking of the county, which can get nasty (we're talking blood feuds, arranged marriages to cousins, etc)… he has never been overly fond of his home because of this. He lived there because his immediate family was there, and when circumstances got bad and the ties of family became frayed with trauma and strife, he left. It was rather simple for him to do, as he had nothing left to keep him there anymore. He swore to himself to never return, taking on a There but for the Grace of the Gods go I attitude about the place… So, naturally, I forced his hand. Recently in his story, duty compelled him, and he entered the Pales for the first time in 30 or so years (though under heavy disguise and with the help of a friend). It was a very strange moment for him, especially because he expected any sort of return to be more painful than it was. It was rather bittersweet for him to look upon the hills and streets of his childhood, and strengthening to not be tempted to stay by nostalgia. He met a good group of folks there, and for a moment, he could almost appreciate halfling culture again. Almost. Mostly because the lunch was very good.

🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE — when is your oc's birthday? how old are they? what are their sun, moon, & rising signs (if known)? what about their tarot card, ruling planet, & ruling number (if known)? do they fit the typical traits of these sun, moon, & rising signs? The calendar of Harlowe's world follows the same time frame as ours (365 days, 7 days in a week, 12 months, 4 seasons), but the dates, months, holidays etc are different. He was born on the 5th of Iustary, roughly analogous to September 27th in our world. He is a Libra, and because his religion is based on a pantheon of the Zodiac, he worships the Libra god he was born under, Iusthimaat. I designed much of his personality around him being a Libra and the stereotypical Libra traits, so yeah, I'd say he fits his sun sign at least! His moon and rising ended up both being Cancer, which i feel suits him, too. He's an emotional lil guy, and does NOT react well to being made fun of. He's infamously moody, but he's got a level head over it all. He prefers when things are as comfortable as possible for everyone involved, and will go out of his way to accommodate everyone despite his prickly demeanor. Get to know him, and he's actually a very loving and nurturing man.

🤔 THINKING FACE — what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms? Harlowe taps his foot very often when he's deep in thought. It's the ADHD. He's a quirky guy, but he masks hard… and this ends up with him being rather grouchy, as I said in the last question. He tries to act normal, but ends up being a different flavour of weird. Oops.

For Anyone - RAPID FIRE 💍 RING — does your oc have any piercings? do they want any (more) piercings? Another DnD character of mine, Mugera, has ear gauges that he wears ivory tusk earrings through. The provenance of these tusks are dubious at best…

🖊️ BALLPOINT PEN — does your oc have any tattoos? do they want any (more) tattoos? My oc Grimwilt V has almost an entire body of tattoos, with grotesque scenes of chaos, murder, demons, war, etc. They run on both sides of his body, leaving a line from his head, face, neck, down to his groin untouched. The rest of him is saturated with ink.

🐉 DRAGON — what is your oc's favorite mythical creature? Hard to say with so many ocs that live in fantasy worlds… Mito, a druid of mine, takes on the form of a Tanuki very often. Surely that counts? Hm.

💜 PURPLE HEART — what is your oc's ancestry/genetic background? Gorgoa is a half-orc. Not much is known about her mother, a human who died shortly after she was born. Her father is a pureblood orc from a northern Orcish clan that diminished in power before moving to the south. There are no more members left of her clan alive other than her and her father.

😊 SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES — what are your oc's career/general life desires? what do they want to get the most out of life? Harlowe's career has changed a few times in his 64 years. He initially trained to be a tailor, but joined the Vitroneaux city guard (Gendarmerie) instead. After his son was born, he took an interest in the Magistratus, an organization in his world that does all sorts of political work, as well as defense against magic threats. He joined up with them, specifically in the Arcane Defense corps, where he now holds the rank of Inspector. As for what he wants in life, well... He thought he knew, once upon a time.

😓 DOWNCAST FACE WITH SWEAT — is your oc open-minded or stubborn? are they inquisitive or do they prefer to keep to their bubble of knowledge? Harlowe may seem stubborn (once again, it's the moodiness) but he's actually one of the most open-minded people you'll meet in Vitroneaux. He values diversity and fairness more than anything else, but his hatred of the dangers of magic can make him come off as a bit of a zealot.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 FAMILY WITH MOTHER, FATHER, SON AND DAUGHTER — how many people are in your oc's immediate family? how many people are in your oc's extended family? do they have aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc? who in their family are they closest with? are they close with their birth family, or do they have a found family? Harlowe has 5 siblings, 4 older brothers and a younger sister. Of these siblings, he is closest with his brother Hamish and his sister Alice, though his proverbial distance from them means he hardly sees them anymore. He still writes them affectionate letters. He is closest in life to his maid, Gorgoa, who is like a daughter to him.

GAH OKAY so I don't know how far back you want me to start. Because if you want to start from the VERY beginning we gotta go back to when he was in 6th grade. Which is a LOT of plot to fill in. And some of it is also kind of heavy and triggering (themes of transphobia, sh, things that are character relevant that I don't want to dwell too heavily on). If we want the abridged version,

Hamish is an absolute nerd and has been from the start. Loves retro games and animation, found the 4e Players Handbook in his local library when he was 6 and was obsessed ever since (Much to the pleasure of his aunt Mariah). You coulda picked him out as a gnc kid from a mile away, never really did the girl thing (much to the dismay of his parents). Because he was nerdy and eccentric and didn't really know how to talk to people he was picked on from an early age, by both his peers and his parents. He always kept his chin up, confidently walking through the halls like he didn’t give a shit what people said (He did).He was the type to sit alone until 6th grade, when he TRIED but was quickly interrupted by a girl rocking up with her DS shamelessly on full volume and offering her hard boiled eggs. He had forgotten his own lunch, so it's not like he was about to turn it down. They spend the lunch period together, trying to figure out the Mario level she was stuck on. From then on she always met him at that table, sure to pack extra hard boiled eggs to share with him. It took him like two months to admit that he never learned her name and had been calling her Eggs in his head the whole time. She decided she liked it.

From there Ham and Eggs keep pickin up friends. First there's Clementine, who earned his name when he chucked one full force at a class douchebag during theater rehearsal. He got suspended. He's kinda the Humble Rich Kid, the one with the super nice parents and the super nice house that always funds the PTA meetings. This dude is aggressively theater kid. Clementine and Basil come in a set. Nothing special there, Basil is literally just her name. Her family owns an art supply store, and if she’s working she’s usually on sales floor with her big brother Jonah. She and Eggs are the ones who have the idea to give everyone a Polaroid camera to document Ham’s pregnancy.

Then there’s Santiago, who they first met nervously shifting around as the GSA went around the circle introducing themselves in 8th grade. They’d all been there, so Santi was very quickly adopted by the rest of the group. He’d always been antisocial, so this was his first friend group. When he finally came out of his shell it was like everything fell into place and they were complete.

Until Junior year. And suddenly Santiago was gone. Just up and left with his family, seemed like. And not a word from him. It kind of fucked things up for a while and it took two or three months of taking time on their own to process. Ham’s mental health was at an ATL, and he felt guilty for feeling so bitter about it. Then he had the big blowout with his parents, a screaming match he wishes he could forget. An argument that ended with his mother crying with rage and his father telling him “I don’t care where you go, you can’t be here anymore.” That was all he needed to decide to walk an hour in the February cold to where his aunt Mariah lived. She’s only ten years older than him, so they grew up more like cousins than aunt and nephew. She’d give him the shirt off her back.

She’d call it a custody battle, but it’s not like Mariah had to fight. From then on, Hamish went no contact and instead lived with Mariah and worked at Wyvern’s Locket.

After a while everyone got together for the first time, and while it wasn’t the same again without Santi they managed to fall back into some sense of normalcy. And it was normal for a few years, until Hamish needed to ask Mariah to pick him up from his doctor’s appointment with referrals for prenatal care and a panic attack. The conversation with his friends was emotional. They were thrilled to learn that Hamish was seven weeks pregnant and not like. Dying. But it was still a lot and by the end of it everyone was just glad he was okay and ready to take it one step at a time together.

Three weeks after that Hamish and Santiago spot each other from across the bus stops.

I like it more than Theo's but he does remind me of Liam unfortunately. and also he's looking like my MC's cousin this season so I gotta pass this time but makes it easier for me. but he does seem great, I like him and he's sweet without being boring (so far), but I also kinda wish we had an LI that gave us more pushback/banter? bc I picked a few options that disagreed with his whole thing about love/fate and he was just like "yeah fs that's a cool opinion too" which OK I get it he's nice but I'm just kinda sick of all the Islanders being so agreeable to MC. I guess Marshall is supposed to be the banter-y one but I have problems with him being here so I wish it was Cassius instead.

And then we get to marshall and I don't even wanna talk about it. And ive made separate posts and reblogged some opinions on that so ill just add that also i hate his orange outfit. him dressing all white and ozzy all black was peak I hate he's out here in orange smh.. anyway so that'll be easy for me to not pick this season

then after that I honestly don't remember what happens apart from way too many challenges all at once and the whole Stefan storyline. I wanted him to be a little upset initially bc it did seem like MC had some misunderstanding and then left him so quickly like I just wanted a little bit of angst where he came in with the gameplan of wanting to give her a piece of his mind and was on the show bc he couldn't contact her any other way, before he realized he was being silly and just was happy to see her again. like if anything, the story beats that Lyle goes through being snarky at mc in episode 1 then immediately asking for forgiveness by episode 3 makes more sense for Stefan but nah instead it just feels like another perfect li loyal route (which is fine but I like some tension in the story). like we can still have the terrace scene where he explains things though.

also if I saw this on love island? I'd be voting for them without question the angst is so good

OK I'm looking thru my screenshots and am now remembering I was upset at raunchy races for being subjective again. notable offenses:

straight out the gate, most creative boy and Kelly says "craft brewing is creative" gtfo as if it's not Chen the set designer (and anyone who brought back Lyle from the dates, I'd imagine musician over craft beer brewer as well)

the physical challenge is OK but I just think it doesn't belong in casa. like on the actual show where they spend real days in casa it's fine but for the game that has to shorten it bc the volumes definitely don't add up to the length of real love island, it feels like a waste. if anything, the real villa needed a physical challenge rather than continuing to do variations on excess baggage type games.

anyway the OG islander to visit instead of a postcard is interesting. I think a postcard makes the most sense but bc the game has to fabricate drama while also probably wanting most of the guys to still look good since the villa is like 75% love interests for MC, maybe it makes sense?

I think having it be MC's partner doesn't give us a lot of drama unless MC wants to bring up Stefan. Finn and Hamish could be interesting whether you're pursuing them or not. Like under the guise of them checking in on their partner, but they just care about MC and are asking her not to forget them. Most likely i think it'll be Kat's partner and he'll make up some lies about what's happening in the villa.

anyway a little rough first few weeks of the season but I'm enjoying at least this episode, surprisingly, so we'll seeeeee.... I think the seasons generally gets worse post casa so I'm not betting on this being a good season overall, but I'm not calling it a flop just yet.
