number one rule┆彡 c. nevin
Tumblr media
pairing: courtney nevin x reader
summary: y/n raso always had her number one rule, to never date her sister’s teammate, however that all changed when australia’s #2 catches her eyes.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
“you’re here.” hayley said, as you put your phone back into your pocket, giving your older sister a soft smile.
“i am, i didn’t want to miss the bronze match.” she gave you a soft smile and nodded.
“glad your here, how’s college?” you shrugged, it was an absolute terror, but you managed.
“it’s fine, been busy with the biology assignments. but it’s worth it, i suppose.”
“college football, then?” hayley asked, as you gave her a wince, making her have this questioning look.
“i’ve torn my acl a few weeks back, currently in the process of rehab.” you said, as hayley’s eyes furrowed.
“it’s the first time i’m hearing this.” you gave her a nod.
“i’ve told our parents to not tell you, i’m out for this year’s season.” hayley gave you a hug, as you returned it. she knew what it was like for an athlete to tore their acl, it was torture as they’d be sitting out for months.
you spent the whole morning catching up with your family as you were mostly in the states busy to maintain your school scholarship. hayley was first to leave, giving your parents tight hugs before giving you one.
“cheer loudly for us, kiddo.” as you nodded, she gave you a smile before exiting the cafe. you went through different shops, carefully selecting a gift for your sister.
you watched as the gift got wrapped, thanking the worker as she handed it to you. you gave her a smile before leaving the shop, putting the bag in your backpack for double keeping.
you headed to the stadium afterwards, taking a seat in the family and friends isle. they were against sweden, a team you looked forward to as they had great players.
you kept your eyes on the field, analyzing the starting eleven from both teams which made you wonder.
“busy as always.” your mother said, as she chuckled. you looked at her with furrowed eyebrows, as you hummed.
“you always analyze the line-up, and see how they would play.” she continued as you laughed knowing that she was extremely correct.
it was a whole blur at this point, you watched as frido had scored a goal as it was deemed as a penalty after the pressure from polkinghorne.
the little shove between asllani and gorry had you amused, but at the same time concerned. in the early minutes of the second half, you watched as mary fowler tapped the ball in scoring it at the top right corner.
you cheered from your seat, as the crowd went wild. it was an equalizer, all you needed was for one more point. however, in the 62nd minute you watched as asllani, sweden’s captain hit the shot from just outside the box, as arnold couldn’t get enough to keep it out.
the game ended with 2-1, you watched as hayley sat down on the pitch. the way the swedish team celebrated, while the matildas looked so flabbergasted and dejected at the same time.
you approached the pitch as you felt hayley give you a tight hug, you knew she had tears in her eyes.
“you did well, haz. although it isn’t what you expected, finishing 4th out of 32 teams is a great accomplishment for the team.” you said, as hayley just shook her head.
you gazed at one of her teammates who set their eyes on you. it was their #5, courtney nevin someone you’ve heard about through your sister who’d talk about her teammates.
she furrowed her eyebrows, probably the fact that she’s never saw you before.
“listen to me, haz. you’ve already made a great accomplishment for the country, i know you wanted to win, but you’re also a winner despite the loss today. you played your best, however sweden was the better team today. besides, since when does a raso quit? i thought we never give up.” you said as hayley laughed, gently punching your arm as you jokingly winced.
“let’s meet the team, yeah?” hayley asked as you shrugged.
“you only know gorry, kyra and cha cha.” hayley said as you snickered.
“well, introduce me to them then? they might be my future teammates after all.” you said, winking at the last part.
you hopped over the barrier, landing on your good leg as you approached the team with a smile.
“oh, look it’s little raso.” katrina said, as you laughed at her joke.
“hi, mini” you said, towering over her to which she softly pushed you. but you ended up bumping into a certain person who landed on the ground.
“sorry about that.” you said, which a cheeky grin. courtney gave you a soft smile, before looking at you in the eyes.
“i’m courtney” she held her hand out as you accepted it, pulling her up from the ground.
“i’m y/n raso.” you said, and that’s how one of the best love stories existed. katrina claims that she should be some credits in creating the couple.
[can i just say that this was long overdue?]

im so obsessed with your ex! • courtney nevin // kyra cooney-cross
w/c: ~1k
you're with courtney now- but courtney was with kyra- and maybe- you're just a little too obsessed with her ex
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
------------------------------------------------------------
you watch your girlfriend warm up before her match- smiling at her when she grins and pulls faces at you from across the field. your vision only slightly obscured by the beanie you’ve stolen from her.
with winter well and truly arriving in england- you’re left shivering on the sidelines once again.
you wouldn’t trade it for the world though.
courtney abandons warmups in favour of running up to you on the sidelines-  and you open your arms to let her crash into you.
“hi!”
“hi baby!”
she grins at you- pecking your lips and pulling away, her hands still hold your own, rubbing her gloved ones to warm up your bare ones.
“ready for the game?”
“ready to watch me win?”
she counters- flexing her arms with a grin.
your brief moment together is cut short- courtney getting called away, back to warmup with her team, and your attention falls to the commotion starting near the tunnel.
the other team- arsenal, make their way onto the pitch, and you can see familiar faces- courtney’s national teammates, and well, of course- her ex-girlfriend.
kyra cooney-cross is a name you are very familiar with- not that courtney knows. she’s only talked about her a couple times, always with a roll of her eyes and in a tone that makes your stomach drop.
you’re not exactly sure what happened between them- but just that it was over a year ago now, and you’ve been with courtney just a little bit less than that.
your eyes leave your girlfriend and drift towards kyra involuntarily- she’s loud, even over the chattering of fans nearby you can hear her laugh, watching her jump on her teammates and run from them when they turn to chase her. your mouth ticks into a smile and you don’t notice courtney frowning at you on the other side.
both teams retreat back into the tunnel to change for the game- and return back onto the field shortly after.
and when they go to shake hands, kyra and courtney skip over each other- and if you weren’t so focused on them you would’ve missed it.
the game begins and your cheering rings out from the crowd- and it only increases tenfold when leicester score twice in a row.
courtney blows you a kiss at halftime and you catch it with a grin- arms pumping in the air. she copies you- catching remy when she jumps on her, and you watch them practically skip together to the changerooms.
your eyes drift to the arsenal girls again- and a pair of brown eyes catch your own, kyra stares at you- a look you can’t quite decipher on her face, and you wave a little- frowning when she turns on her heels and walks away.
you don’t know whether arsenal have sacrificed a fan at halftime- or if they called leah williamson to yell at them, but whatever they did-  they’re absolutely ruthless and you can
tell it’s getting on courtney’s nerves.
you wince when she takes out kyra- walking away without acknowledging the other girl, kyra- on her part, picks herself up, and dusts herself off, getting ready for the free kick. her free kick which results in a goal- arsenal’s number 24 nudging the ball into the back of the net.
the game ends, 6-2 arsenals way.
and you know courtney will be quick to shower to leave the stadium.
you’ve moved away from fans now- standing alone to wait for your girlfriend.
you’re proven right when your girlfriend emerges from the tunnel minutes later- waving you over.
“hi.”
“hi.”
you pull her into a hug- and she collapses into you, rubbing her back, you kiss the side of her head.
“you were amazing- im so proud of you baby.”
she hums at that- sighing quietly, and pulling away from your embrace, she stretches her neck, rolling her shoulders back. she grabs your hand- leading you towards the exit. remy joins you both- following along on courtney’s other side- the pair chatting quietly.
a voice calls out to your little group.
“court! remy!”
you look up- smiling at steph as she approaches, flanked closely by caitlin.
you stand a little behind courtney- letting them chat and catch up, still a little unfamiliar with the pair.
another person approaches from behind steph and caitlin- swinging their arms onto the aussies shoulders. kyra- she mutters a quick hello when she sees courtney- arms dropping from steph and caitlin, choosing to hover behind them instead- head nodding along to what is said.
you stare at her from over courtney’s shoulder- eyes tracing the features of her face.
you can definitely tell why courtney had a crush on her.
kyra looks up at you- as if she knew you were staring, and you look away just as quick, moving to grab courtney’s hand again.
kyra smiles at you this time though- and you can feel courtney’s hand tighten around yours.
-
the journey home is tense and quiet between you and courtney- you stopped trying to initiate conversation with her a few minutes in. and when you do finally get home- she disappears off into the bedroom while you make your way to the kitchen to start dinner.
she returns half an hour later- her arms circling your waist from behind, her head resting on your back.
“you okay?”
you question her.
“yeah fine.”
she pauses for a second- pulling away from you.
“i saw you staring at her today.”
your eyebrow furrows.
“who?”
“you know.”
you pause- racking your brain of what to say.
“there’s a reason we don’t talk anymore you know.”
“i-“
“don’t. just let me talk- we used to date, i know, you know that. and i know you want to know why we split. she’s jealous- like, a very jealous person, and we fought a lot- over lots of stupid things. so you’ve got no reason to be jealous of her baby.”
“right. okay good! thanks for telling me court.”
you wrap your arms around her neck- pulling her into a hug, squeezing tight.
“of course- i love you, and only you know.”
she squeezes you tight.
because that’s all you were- just jealous.
-
courtney falls asleep against you hours later- her arm wrapped around your stomach as she dozes off. your phone lights up- illuminating the dark room for a second. reaching over carefully, you grab your phone- eyes squinting to adjust to the bright screen. one notification stands out from the rest.
kyracooneyx has requested to follow you.

Movie Night
Courtney Nevin x Reader
Summary: You see your girlfriend
Tumblr media
It's not often that you made the drive.
It was nearly three hours from Brighton to Leicester on a good day, nearly four on a bad one so it wasn't something you got into the habit of doing.
A route from hell divided you and your girlfriend. You weren't in one of those relationships that could meet somewhere in the middle. It was all or nothing.
When your contracts ended you had both already decided that you would need to go to the same club. The distance was stressful to both you and Courtney which was probably why you were making the trip.
You had training tomorrow but you had already dropped hints to Vicky that you were feeling sick so calling in would be easy tomorrow. You knew that Courtney had done the same with Aileen.
It wasn't the most responsible or professional thing to do but you couldn't care less when you ran from your car straight into your girlfriend's arms.
You take in a deep breath and relaxed into her familiar warmth and security.
"I missed you," Courtney said softly," So much."
"Missed you too," You said. Your words were muffled and you refused to remove yourself from her safe embrace.
You don't really know how long you spent on her doorstep, in the cold England night, just rocking back and forth, soaking each other in.
"I've got the movies queued up," Courtney whispered in your ear," And snacks. Do you want to head in?"
"You're perfect," You said as she lead you into the house.
Your girlfriend pushed you onto the sofa and bundled up the blankets. She milled around you for a moment before sitting down and pulling your legs into her lap.
They were a little numb from driving nearly three hours without any breaks and you actually moaned when Courtney began to massage you. She knew just where to put the right amounts of pressure and where to let up until you were completely boneless next to her, unable to really do anything but shovel more food into your mouth and stare at the screen in front of you.
You don't know how many movies you watched, you just knew that it was five in the afternoon when you left your house and now it was coming up to three in the morning.
You didn't want to move though, content in your little cocoon of blankets with Courtney's warm body next to you.
You yawned.
"Do you want to head up to bed?" Courtney asked as she readied the next movie (the shared Netflix account was a god send when deciding which movies seemed interesting enough to watch).
"Don't want to move," You grunted before completely contradicting yourself by readjusting your position so your head was in her lap.
Blindly, you reached for Courtney's hand and pulled it onto your head.
She was quick on the uptake and gently scratched at your scalp. The pressure was just right, exactly like the kind of perfect pressure she used on your legs.
"I think we're sleeping down here, huh?" She laughed softly.
"You can keep watching your movies," You said, eyes dropping closed and words slurring with sleep," I'm...I'm just going to take a little nap."
She chuckled and it rocked your body a little. It was a good rocking though and just pushed you deeper into your exhausted haze.
"You can sleep as long as you'd like," Courtney said fondly as her expert fingers continued to massage your head," It's not like we're going to training tomorrow."

Sunsets and footballers (Part 44)
Lucy Bronze x Reader (39) & Jordan Nobbs x Leah Williamson Mini (3)
Masterlist (other parts here)
((**This is now my largest chapter at 7.5k. Enjoy!**))
YFN had instantly fallen asleep in her seat on the plane and woke to the jolt of the landing gear absorbing the impact on touchdown. She shook her fatigue away and took her phone off flight mode. 11:15am UK time. She gave a sigh of relief that the flight had been quicker than usual. She knew she’d been cutting it close with the flight time and instead of Ruby picking her up as planned, she’d told her to go to the stadium instead so she could get an Uber. It worked out well, because it meant she had time to speak to Jordan without feeling rude talking in front of Ruby.
She collected her bags and timed the Uber well, hopping in immediately as she exited the building. The stadium was thirty minutes from the airport so she’d be arriving just at kick off. She wasn't too concerned, though. Bridget and Emily were also in Manchester for a 1300 game between Man City and Brighton and were getting a bit more experience up onsite with Ruby at her game. She was lucky to have such good workmates.
She slid into the cab with a polite hello and found the only contact with a fish in it.
“Hey chicken! How was Barcelona?”
“Oh my god, Dory, it was amazing. Absolutely amazing. But I’m dead on my feet.”
Jordan laughed. “I’m guessing Lucy didn’t let you sleep much?”
“Don’t be cheeky. But you are correct.”
“How many hours are you running on?”
She counted. “I had two hours sleep on the plane so…about five hours?”
“What?!”
“I think…I remember we had a ‘midnight snack’ but that was about 4am so…”
“You’re unbelievable. Priorities, right?”
YFN chuckled. “I have no regrets beyond the struggle to walk-”
“Oh god! I don’t want to hear it.”
They both laughed together.
“How are you? Tell me everything.”
Jordan hummed and then proceeded to tell YFN about her dreams and the flowers and note that morning.
“Why didn’t you lead with that?!”
“I don't know. Good news before bad?”
“You think the flowers and note are bad news?”
“I don’t know. My head’s all over the place from the dreams. They were good and bad, but it’s just wrecked me emotionally.”
“I understand that…it’s not great for game day. Are you on your way there now?”
“Yeah, I’m on the bus. We have another hour and a half to go.”
“Well, you can’t resolve these emotions before the game because that would be a miracle. So how about you put a movie on and distract yourself? Don’t sleep, you won’t be able to.
“Yeah, I think I’ll do that to be fair…”
“Perfect. Have you messaged her?”
“No. I can’t do that today. Trying not to mess with my head before the game.”
“That’s all good, I was going to suggest maybe not responding until after the game.”
“You’re doing two games today, aren’t you?”
YFN’s mouth almost dropped open. “You have no idea how proud I am that you remembered that? I told you a while ago...”
“Oh, sorry, I should probably keep up my forgetfulness, right? Who are you again?”
YFN laughed. “I love forgetful Dory. She’s my favourite. Along with cuddly Dory. Football Dory though…jeez she’s terrifying.”
“I definitely will be today.”
“Get those emotions out, girl! Just don’t hurt anyone or get red carded please.”
“No promises.”
“As for your question, yep. I have the 1200 Man United versus West Ham game at Leigh and then the 1845 Arsenal versus Leicester game at King Power.”
“Oh that's right! Kyra…”
YFN had obviously told Jordan about Kyra. They both thought it was cute.
“Yes ma’am.”
“Our bus will drop us back at Villa Park about 7pm tonight…I can drive and meet you there?”
YFN could tell that Jordan needed comfort, and most of her friends were in London. She did the timing math in her head.
“You’d arrive about 8pm tonight with the traffic…how about you get a lift with my guy, Matt? He’s relocating to my game and then driving me back to Birmingham after it’s done.”
“Oh, yeah! That works out brilliant, that does. God, you’re so good at this logistics stuff. I just kick a ball around.”
YFN had a giggle at the visual image and messaged Matt. “And you look great doing it. Plus, you do more than that and you know it.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
YFN bit her lip as she thought a little. Jordan needed some love, and she knew just what to do. “What do you think about us asking Katie and Caitlin to stay the night? We’ll all finish up around 9pm in Leicester so they’ll have overnight accommodation. If I message them then they’ll have time for the team to cancel their room. They can come home with us.”
“Ohhh I didn’t think of that! See, this is why you’re the best.”
YFN grinned at the sound of genuine happiness in Jordan’s voice. She knew she missed them a lot.
She looked up and could see the stadium approaching in the distance. “I’m excited! Okay, I’m almost at the stadium. I’ll message the group.”
“Okay, love you!”
“Love you more. I’m so excited to see you tonight! Have a good game today, please. Smash it.”
They hung up happy and she opened a message from Matt that replied with an excited yes. Being a Villa supporter meant his dream just came true. YFN wondered how the car ride with them would be to Leicester and couldn’t help but be amused.
YFN then put a message in their little four-way group. Caitlin was usually the first to respond whether it be message or Instagram, and today was no exception. She’d answered an unequivocal yes for the both of them before she’d even stepped foot into the stadium.
The national anthems were playing just as she arrived and met up with her workmates. Bridget was running the boundary line, excitedly videoing the singing while Emily and Ruby were taking photos.
“Hey, Em.”
“YFN! Hi!” She gushed, wearing her purple and yellow Lumos hoodie. YFN was wearing Lucy’s hoodie so she opted for a beanie instead. “How was your flight?”
“I slept the entire trip,” she admitted with a chuckle.
Emily snapped a few shots of the starting line-ups.
“How are you and Bridget?”
“Oh, great! Yeah, we’re excited to be staying in Manchester tonight. Because we all have tomorrow off, we have plans to sight see and visit some family.”
They chatted for a little longer when YFN recognised the photographer from the last game she’d been to. The one who followed her home. She pretended to not notice him as she kept speaking to Emily and then made her way around the field to get a few good videos and say hi to Ruby and Bridget also. Bridget was running a mile a minute as she usually did, and Ruby mentioned that she had a date with Matt the next day. Ruby also ran a mile a minute, just with her mouth rather than her legs like Bridget. The whistle blew.
“Oh are those two already leaving already?” She asked rhetorically as Bridget and Emily waved on the way out. “Aw I didn’t say bye! Anyways, Matt said he’d take me on a date but I don’t know where-” she snapped a few photos and then cringed at the tackle she’d just captured, “-and I know it’s going to be amazing because we’ve been talking for a while now and…well not a while but since we all met and we were first partnered up-” she jogged further up the field to take another and came back when she was satisfied, “-and we’ve both been talking about supervising this next group of people coming in and we’re so excited for them to join us-” she took photos while YFN pulled her phone out to get a good Instagram video of Man United’s goal as they were both standing just a few metres from the West Ham goal. Goal number one, just three minutes in. YFN uploaded the video straight to their social media with an update on the score, “-and I just think it’s going to be amazing to have so many people with us. Is that guy staring at us?”
YFN turned to the photographer who’d been following her around the boundary, more focussed on her than the game.
“Yeah…just ignore him. He won’t hurt us.” She said, repeating what Catherine had said to her. Phone still on video mode in her hand, she pressed record but before she could lift her arm up to video him, they were interrupted.
“Now, now, physical violence isn’t my thing.” The voice teased from behind them.
YFN didn’t even have to turn, but she did out of polite habit as Mark stepped next to her, his eyes focussed on the game. She kept her phone on record and down near her body, but angling the mic towards him.
“Mark.”
“YFN. I hear you had a lovely trip up to Edinburgh to meet your…controversial leader.”
Ruby frowned, not understanding.
“He’s just teasing,” she assured. “Could you give us a minute?”
Ruby nodded and headed back up the field.
“So none of them know then?”
“What could you possibly be referring to, Mark?”
“Joanne.” He almost hissed. “That heartless woman.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Well let me be clear, then. I know your boss. She took something from me, so I’m going to tear her whole fucking business down.”
“Which business would that be?”
“The only one not protected by a board. Lumos. Her baby that she’s trying so desperately to hide. And you know exactly how I’m going to start?”
“By getting a photographer to follow me?”
He gave a grin that sent shivers down her spine. “Something along those lines.”
He handed her a large yellow envelope. Against her better judgement, she took it and looked inside. She found several printed photos of herself and Lucy kissing at the airport. The photos weren’t the best quality, they looked like they’d been taken on a phone, but still…it was disturbing.
She turned her attention back to the game as if she were unbothered. “Congratulations. You gave me photos of my girlfriend and I. You do realise that we are public? We have nothing to hide.”
“You don’t think that someone in your position dating one of the most famous footballers of all time is a conflict of interest? Let me give you some advice…people will care. Whoever Joanne has investing in her company will. And this is just the start. I’ll get more and more dirt on not just you, but your workmates also. I’ll drag you all into the fucking ground.”
She sharply breathed in. “You want to ruin a good thing for a little rivalry?”
“A good thing?” He scoffed. “Nobody wants to watch women play. Look around you. The stands are only filled with friends and family. As for everyone who works at Lumos…” He shrugged. “Collateral.”
YFN let herself look at him. He was determined and deadly serious.
“See that photographer? Get used to seeing him around. As for Joe…tell her I’m going to tear down her company before it even begins.”
It was a dominant display by Manchester United who ended up winning 5-0 with five different goal scorers. YFN felt for West Ham who she’d grown a soft spot for since her visit, and especially felt empathetic for their Captain, Mackenzie Arnold, a fellow Australian, as she was the goalkeeper. She couldn’t imagine how hard it must have been mentally after a game like that. You’d feel like it was all your fault while having to be the one to pull the team together.
A few of the players wandered over to her after the match, one being Mackenzie. She gave her a hug and surprisingly agreed to an interview. She interviewed her alongside Mary Earps, letting the two talk business. Mary didn’t exactly have a quiet game, she’d had shots that she’d saved and they both bantered about that, with YFN steering the questions when and where she wanted. The fact that they both pointed out the brilliance in several different moments of each teams and gushed over not just their team but the opposite was the exact reason she’d fallen in love with women’s football. After those two, she interviewed Kirsty Smith and Riko Ueki with Ella Toone and Lucia Garcia. The dynamics of who she put together were interesting and got the results she wanted. She felt like she was Graham Norton putting interesting guests on and leading them here and there with questions, making sure they each felt acknowledged and appreciated for their time and their skill on the pitch.
They finished up around 2:30pm and stopped for a late lunch and some quick editing and posts before they started their two-and-a-half-hour drive to Leicester for their next game. It was only early evening, and YFN could already feel herself getting tired.
As they got into the car, Ruby noted that and told her to get some sleep. She had no idea that Ruby could be quiet for long enough and was pleasantly surprised.
Just before she went to sleep, she sent the video recording of Mark’s voice to Catherine who she knew was busy with few royal duties, and then she fell asleep just after she put her phone on charge.
YFN woke to the loud sound of her phone ringing and she jumped, her face feeling half numb from the window. The car was stopped and she looked outside to Ruby who’d noticed her wake and gave her a thumbs up from the fuel bowser. She gave one back and answered the phone without checking the caller ID.
“YFN! Are you okay?!”
She recognised the voice immediately. “Cath- I mean. Joe? Wow, you really did a great job of sounding not yourself before we met.”
Catherine gave a light chuckle. “One of my secret talents. I listened to your video. Did he threaten you?”
“Not physically, just what you heard on the video.”
“He’s absolutely insistent and much more of a pain than I’d expected.” She sounded annoyed and that was amusing to YFN as she was always painted as the perfect Princess. “I’m so sorry. I spoke to Joe and even she is surprised. He will not hurt you. If you feel unsafe at all, I will hire security.”
“That’s okay, I think we’re okay for now. He seems to be all bark at the moment..”
“He is, I assure you. Also, there is no conflict of interest here. I’m aware of your relationship. We are not even covering her games yet and when we do, it is absolutely not a conflict of interest. The man doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I know you, I chose you for a reason and your judgement, and your actions won’t be compromised by your relationship. Not only that, but there’s nothing in which to base these allegations on just yet. I understand the implications that may occur with you interviewing her and potentially being seen as biased, but I’ve seen your work, I’ve seen you interview friends and colleagues without that bias. I chose carefully.” She sighed. “My plan was for us to build your reputation in the field so high it would surpass any of these allegations before they even occurred.”
“I appreciate the support, and I promise that anything to do with Lucy or her team against another team will not be an issue. I want everyone and every team to be represented, regardless of if they’re against her or not.”
“Perfect. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, I think. In the meantime, you don’t need to hide your relationship. I’d never ask or expect that of you.”
“Thank you…also I’m assuming part of your security check on us is that you look for anything controversial which may be used against us like this?”
She hesitated. “Yes. I don’t like it, but we need to protect ourselves and the business from any potential threats…”
“I understand, and I agree.” Ruby hopped back into the car then with a grin. “You have my support…Joe.”
Catherine took the hint. “He won’t find anything controversial on the other employees because there is nothing. We just need to stay a tight knit group and continue our jobs.”
“Copy that, will do. Would you like me to send out a group memo about him?”
Ruby started to drive again.
“Yes, absolutely. If you don’t mind, I’ll write it and you send it?”
“Perfect, that saves me the work.”
“Lastly, the office won’t be ready tomorrow.”
“Oh?” Her interest peaked at that. She could be with Lucy on her day off. Jonatan had been giving her more days off with her knee. She only had to train four days this week, Tuesday to Friday.
“It’s all related. Mark somehow managed to talk to the local council…anyways I’m sorting it. It’ll be ready by Wednesday, I promise you.”
“Okay. That’s perfectly fine. I’ll meet up with the real estate agent and then the original ten of us will settle in and prep for the new group to arrive.”
“I thought it would be best to start the new group on Thursday instead because of the timing with the office date moving, but I wanted to check with you first to make sure you weren’t losing too much preparation time with them for the next round?”
YFN thought about it a little. Their first game was Saturday, and it was the only one. Catherine had gotten permission for ten employees at that game which allowed her to send two original crew with a full new crew to train. “I think Thursday will work. It’ll give us two full days to cover everything which is enough, and for eight of them, they’ll get experience on Saturday at Stamford Bridge. If I feel we need more, I’ll organise Saturday with the others not at the game to prep more.”
“Agreed! We think very much alike, you know.” It was a compliment that made her blush.
Catherine asked if she had any more questions before the call ended. She wasn’t surprised it wasn’t a long conversation, as she knew she’d been busy all day with regular duties and then Mark’s drama in the background. She couldn’t help but think about the possibility of booking a flight to Barcelona to spend the next two days with Lucy, as she knew she had the next day off. She could explore Barcelona with Narla and do a bit of work on the Tuesday while Lucy was training… She bit her lip and shook her head. Jordan needed her. Jordan was her priority. Thinking of, she looked up Jordan’s game which was almost finished. It had been fairly even all game and Jordan had been subbed on in the 65th minute, having a goal attempt in the 66th minute. YFN smiled as she watched Jordan running around, looking frustrated which was so opposite to her everyday self. Aston Villa were up 1-0 and she watched while Ruby listened to the end of the game. Multiple fouls were made by both teams. Aston Villa scored a second goal. A foul by Jordan at the 90 minute mark. And then it was over. Jordan had only played 30 minutes, but she’d made an impact. YFN sent Jordan a message saying how proud she was of her.
They arrived in Leicester around 5:45pm and stopped at a local café for another snack and a drink before the game. Being too early at the stadium meant boredom. They made sure to arrive around 6:15pm and set their equipment up, capturing the players during warm up. The Leicester players exited first to warm up and a few came over to chat. Luck have it, Courtney was one of them. Australians tended to flock together outside of Australia, she realised. YFN asked if she’d do an interview after the game and she agreed for the price of a hoodie. She liked Courtney and could see why Kyra did too. They were both cheeky.
“Hey stranger.”
YFN turned to see Leah’s smile as she stepped next to her. She was alone and not in kit, not quite ready to play after her ACL.
“Leah!” She smiled, pulling her into a hug. She liked Leah, regardless of her issues with Jordan, and she’d previously spoken to Jordan about their little growing friendship. She was okay with it, of course, otherwise YFN wouldn’t have been so forward. “How are you?”
“Oh mate, desperate to get onto that field, I’m telling ya.” She looked longingly at the pitch and then back to YFN. “I watched your interviews. They’re great! I don’t know why anyone hasn’t interviewed like that before.”
“The ones from last week?”
“Yeah and this morning. I loved it, honestly. I’ll be happy to do interviews anytime with you, just let me know.”
“That’s just given me an idea…” She hummed as she thought.
“Taking me up on the offer already?” She laughed.
“Actually I’ve been trying to work out different segments and ideas that would make us stand out from other companies….you’re not playing today. There are always players who are not playing but watching their teams. So it might be a good idea to get players willing to on the sidelines with us to interview and to film some of the snippets we upload with their own perspective and jokes and insight. Sort of like when you’re excitedly screaming motivation at the girls from the bench, but this time they’d be in snippets for our social media. It’ll promote the team and show just how supportive all of the players are with each other. Plus, I think it'd be hilarious.”
“Sort of like when they mic up the cricket players?”
“EXACTLY.”
“Put me in, coach. I love the sound of that. Plus, if it mucks up, you can just blame me.”
“You are 100% my scapegoat if it goes bad.” She laughed. “You’d be willing to today?”
She shrugged. “I have nothing else going on and I’m used to the camera so why not.”
“Perfect! Yeah, oh that’s so exciting-” She stopped and bit her lip as she thought of Jordan.
“What is it?”
“Um…maybe not today? Maybe next game?”
The frustrating thing was that she didn’t know yet if she’d even be at Arsenal’s next game. It depended on the roster.
“YFN, just tell me.”
“So…hm…here’s the thing…”
“Please don’t tell me this is about Jordan?” She asked, a little upset. “I was hoping that wouldn’t affect our relationship…”
“It won’t! Dory’s fine with us being friends. It’s just…”
“Spit it out, mate.”
“She’s going to be here in under an hour.”
She swore Leah paled. She definitely froze. “Oh.”
“Yeah…so she’ll already be with me on the sidelines for company.”
“She just finished a game…” she looked at her watch. “…so if she’s coming here I guess it’s to talk about us?”
“Leah…”
“She told you about this morning?”
“Yes.”
“Okay.” She groaned and ran her hand through her hair. “Look, I don’t know your opinion on everything and I don’t want to drag you into it all, but I promise you I just want the best for Jordan.”
“And the best for Jordan is you?”
Leah held her eye contact. “Yes. Just…I know I don’t have the right to ask but I will. Can you please maybe tell Jordan it wouldn’t be such a bad thing to go with me this Friday night to the awards? I want to win her back, to be there for her but I can’t without opportunity to actually be around her.”
“I won’t convince her to do something she doesn’t want to…”
“I wouldn’t expect you to. Just…advocate for me? You don’t have to push it. Just…please?”
“I’ll have a talk to her,” she murmured.
“CHICKEN!”
The Arsenal players were headed out for their warm up and most were headed her way led by the Irishwoman who was being overtaken by a smiley, wavy Kyra.
“Thank you, I really appreciate it. Also, I can still do that thing with you, I can be over the other side away from Jordan if she doesn’t want me near.”
“Thanks Leah, I’ll ask her about it when she gets here,” she replied with a smile.
“Ask who about what?!” Kyra asked as she landed on YFN’s back. YFN’s hands immediately caught her legs.
“Oof. You do realise I’m small, right?”
“Yeah, but I knew you’d catch me. When’s Nobbs here?”
A few of the Arsenal girls looked awkward because Leah was there. “It’s okay…” she assured them. “She’ll be here during the first half.”
“Okaaaaay.”
“Oh, also Kyra invited herself tonight.” Caitlin said as she wrestled Kyra off of YFN so she and Katie could give her a hug.
“Tonight? Where was our invite?” Beth asked.
YFN grinned sheepishly. “Our apartment isn’t big enough for the entire Arsenal squad…”
“I’m just joking, this one wants an early sleep anyways,” she said as she nudged Viv who looked unimpressed as usual.
“Aw what a granny!” Kyra teased.
YFN couldn’t help but laugh at the look on Viv’s face. Kyra giggled at her joke, ducking away from Caitlin’s motherly swat to the back of the head when a blue shirt appeared amongst the red and Kyra stilled.
“Hey…”
“Courtney!” YFN replied, making sure she didn’t feel left out. “Hey!”
Courtney looked around, her eyes finding Kyra and then tearing them away pretending she hadn’t looked at her. “Just letting you know Sam and Sophie are both good for the interview after the game. Do you know who it’ll be with?”
“Awesome! Yeah, I was hoping Beth and Frida would be up for it…”
“Me? Yes please! Not sure if I’ll be subbed on though,” Beth said eagerly.
Viv rolled her eyes. “She’ll be subbed on.”
“FRIDA!” Katie yelled.
“FRIDA!!” Beth yelled shortly after. Viv covered her ears and YFN chuckled at that.
The blonde spun around and jogged over. “Yes?”
Frida Maanum was a Norwegian midfielder who’d been with Arsenal since 2021. She was rarely chosen to be interviewed and softly spoken, so YFN thought it’d be great to involve her and help her confidence out with Beth who she could always rely on to talk if she didn’t.
“Want to do an interview with me after the game? YFN wants to know.”
Frida looked over at YFN with a polite hello wave. “It’s going to be with Sam Tierney and Sophie Howard from Leicester. You can absolutely say no if you want.”
“You want me? She sounded surprised.
“Of course she wants ya, you’re amazin’.” Katie said with a playful grab of her shoulder.
“O…okay. Yeah.” She smiled at YFN which made the Australian feel good for asking.
“Aw, I’ll look after you mate! No need to be nervous!” Beth said loudly, extending an arm around her shoulder.
“So…Beth and Frida,” YFN said to Courtney with a smile. “And then you and Kyra. Is that okay Kyra?”
“Yeah that’s cool.” Kyra said, suddenly quiet.
Courtney’s eyes widened hearing that she’d be interviewed with Kyra. YFN knew it was sneaky of her but it was an opportunity for Courtney to reject the idea before she surprised her with her ex. Not that they were ever public knowledge.
“Okay. I’ll see you after the game.” She said, directed straight at YFN but she knew it was more for Kyra from the tone of it.
Caitlin and YFN shared a sheepish look.
“Come on girls, Jonas is about to kick our asses. Let’s get warmin’ up!” Katie ordered.
“If you see me shouting from the sidelines, it’s because I’m mic’d up!” Leah warned them and received some amused looks in return.
“You’d better not be focusin’ on my ass.” Katie teased.
Caitlin messed up Kyra’s hair. “You’d better be focusing on this one’s debut!”
They all jogged off and Leah turned to YFN.
“Okay boss, where do you want me?”
Jordan and Matt arrived just after 7pm, both with wide grins. Matt because he’d just spent a car ride with Jordan and Jordan because of YFN.
“Dory! Come here!” She took her friend in a hug big enough to lift the footballer off the ground and a few Arsenal fans spotted Jordan and shouted their love for her as she did so.
“I missed you.” She mumbled into Lucy’s hoodie.
“It’s been a day. Needy, hm?”
“I’m always needy.” Jordan grumbled as she put her down.
“I missed you too.” YFN chuckled before turning to Matt. “You look excited, mate.”
He was still grinning ear to ear and nodded.
“I think I tired him out with all the talking, to be fair.”
“I’m glad you two got on for the drive then. Matt, are you okay taking a few of us back to Birmingham tonight? If not, I can ask Ruby…”
“Yes!” He almost shouted and then cleared his throat. “Um, yes, of course. Who..?
“Uh Dory, Katie, Caitlin, Kyra and myself. Oh actually that won’t work… Ruby will have to take some of us anyways… maybe those three and I’ll ask Ruby if she can take Kyra and I.”
“Done.”
“How was the game?”
“Yeah, great. Noel and I got some great footage. A few of the girls were asking about interviews but I said we’d start next week.”
“Next week hopefully… and congrats on Aston Villa’s first win for the season?!”
“Yeah!” Jordan grinned. “I wasn’t on for long but I think I did alright.”
Loud noises from the crowd turned their attention to Leicester running towards goal. The ball was pushed out by Lotte for a corner.
“I’ll go record that.” Matt said as he ran towards the goal up the side of the pitch. Jordan spotted Leah behind the goal then.
“Leah…?”
“You had to have expected her to be here,” YFN teased.
“Well yeah but…is she recording with a phone?”
“I have her mic’d up for some footage. Trying something new out and she’s helping.”
Jordan frowned but her eyes remained on her, mixed emotions in her eyes.
The crowd went wild as Leicester scored from their corner. Jordan swore. The game reset.
“She really wants you to go with her on Friday..”
Jordan’s eyes flicked up to meet hers. “She said that? What else did she say?”
“Nothing you don’t already know… that she wants the best for you, she wants to win you back, and she wants an opportunity to do so.”
Jordan groaned. “I can’t. We rarely went to events together before. Now she wants to show me off to the world like I’m hers when I’m not?”
“I think she just wants a night with you, Jords…”
“Nope. No way. Unless she has another plus one and you come to chaperone us.”
YFN tilted her head. It wasn’t football but… “I could get an invite?”
Jordan spun back around. “You could?”
“My boss can 100% get me a ticket. Now, did you mean it?”
“I mean…” she looked over at Leah. “If you’re going, I will.”
“And is this really what you want?”
Jordan got a little frustrated and pouted, trying to think. She was a bundle of confused emotions and the dreams wouldn’t have helped. YFN put her arm around her and pulled her close.
“What do you think?”
“I think whatever this is, you need to resolve it. The best way to do that is communication. I think you should go. Sooner or later it’s going to be clear to you if you do or don’t want to have her back in your life.”
Leah looked over at the pair, her and Jordan looking at each other. She nodded. “I’ll go.”
“You’re sure?”
“I think I wanted to, I just didn’t want to admit it. Plus, you’ll be there now so it’ll be less awkward.” She grinned up at her.
YFN rolled her eyes and messaged ‘Joe’. Just as she finished the message, Leicester was surging forward, forward, forward, and tucked away their second goal. Two goals in two minutes. A terrible start for Arsenal.
Jordan settled next to YFN, following her and her camera around, watching the game intently. She always wanted the best for Arsenal. They had more of a catch up in between photos that she’d changed to as Matt was now doing the videography. YFN didn’t miss Leah off and on staring across at them just as longingly as she stared at the pitch she missed. Jordan and YFN gradually moved closer to Leah through that first half, though Leah ducked away to the change rooms for half time with her girls.
While it was half time, Ruby, Matt and YFN on worked on their footage while they talked.
“New office tomorrow?!” Matt asked excitedly.
“Oh…no. That’s been delayed until Wednesday. Waiting on approvals. New group are now starting Thursday.”
“You’re not going to Barcelona?” Jordan asked. “Doesn’t Lucy have tomorrow off?”
“You spoke with her?”
“Yeah she messaged me. I assumed you suggested it,” she laughed, “she’s terrible at messaging.”
“Not with me.” YFN winked. “Also that was all her, I promise.”
Jordan rolled her eyes and nudged her almost off her chair. “She misses you.”
“I was there this morning…”
“You miss her too.”
“Dory…” She groaned.
“No.” She said, putting her hand on the camera YFN was playing with which made her look up at her. Ruby and Matt shifted a little nervously as they could do nothing but listen. Jordan looked serious. “Don’t you dare stay here tonight just for me. You barely get any time with her as it is. She’s my friend too, and I like to see her happy. And you happy. And you’re both never as happy as when you’re together.” YFN opened her mouth to argue but Jordan continued. “Let me live vicariously through you. You’ve already done enough, I have Katie and Caitlin and Kyra tonight! They need a bed.”
“You’re kicking me out of our apartment?” YFN laughed.
“Only if you can find a flight.”
She put her camera down and took Jordan into a warm, long hug, mumbling into her. “I love you, Dory. You know that? If we’re both single in five years, I’m going to propose.”
Jordan laughed but they were both emotional. They just wanted the best for each other. “Okay but Blu will be ring-bearer.”
YFN laughed back into her and sat back, wiping tears away that she didn’t even know had formed.
“You’re putting Kyra on the couch?”
“I’ll let her share my bed if she shuts up.”
“She’s only small, she’ll be asleep before you all finish dinner. She tends to tire herself out fast, the little baby.”
“Little baby,” Jordan mimicked adoringly. “Now look for flights. I’ll message Lucy.”
“Or…how about we make it a surprise?”
“I love it! If she thinks you’re robbing her and knocks you out though, that’s not on me.”
She did wonder what Lucy’s reaction would be. She found a flight from Birmingham to Barcelona at 11pm.
“Won’t you need her to unlock the door?”
“I have keys…”
“You two are adorable.”
“I found an 11pm flight from Birmingham…”
“Do you think you’ll make that?!” Ruby asked. “I’m happy to take you…”
“That…sort of works out perfect because then the girls will all fit in Matt’s car. Um…the game finishes at 8:30pm. Interviews until 9pm. Arrive at the airport around 10pm. Cutting it close for international but it’s a late flight and nobody will be there… I think we can make it?” She shrugged and booked the flight anyways. If she didn’t make it, it wasn’t meant to be.
Jordan grinned. “Tell her to thank me when you get there.”
“Honestly, I’m probably going to be passed out from fatigue all day and not even get the chance.”
Her phone buzzed. It was the flight confirmation.
“Are you sure?” She asked Jordan. Sure, she’d already booked the flight, but it was cheap and she didn’t care. She wanted Jordan to be okay.
Jordan grabbed her around the shoulders and smiled. “I promise it’s okay. You’ve really cheered me up today and helped with my Friday night decision. Plus, I have the girls tonight. We both know you’ll just pass out anyways.”
“How dare you…” she laughed as the crowd began cheering loudly as the players re-entered the field. Ruby and Matt got to work. She stood to do the same when her phone buzzed again.
Joe: Done, they sent us through two invitations. Check your emails. Enjoy!
She grinned at the message and then at Jordan.
“What?” She handed her phone over and Jordan took it, an ecstatic look crossing her face. “Yes mate!”
She took her phone back and pocketed it, holding her camera up to take photos of the players as they ran out.
“One condition.”
“Anything.”
She jerked her head towards Leah who was wandering over to the pair. “You tell her.”
Jordan groaned. “Okay but at the end of the night. She can sweat until then.”
YFN chuckled at that.
Starting the second half 2-0 against them meant Arsenal had to push deep. And they did. Arsenal kicked six goals in the second half. Their first came at a hesitation from Courtney which YFN felt terrible for. She was next to Leah when that happened who filmed a mic’d up scream of joy from behind the Leicester goal as the shot went in. Slowly Jordan gravitated towards Leah more during the match, Leah managing to let her come at her own pace. The rest of the match was an absolute riot. Caitlin with an assist and a goal, Katie with an assist, and Kyra with multiple attempts at goal. She was shocked when she saw Courtney take Kyra down in the 83rd minute and wondered just how much of the history between them she didn’t know. The game ended 2-6 Arsenal. A complete second half dominance that had Leah screaming with joy on the sidelines. It turned out to be the perfect day to test the mic’d up segment, as she posted the live updates with video’s Leah had taken of her yelling at the girls running towards goal and screaming, turning the camera around on herself to show her celebrating. It was great content.
Regardless of the outcome, the Leicester players still came over for their interviews. First she had Sam, Sophie, Frida and Beth who actually did get some game time and almost a first goal since she’d come back from her ACL tear. Beth was the loudest, of course, and helped Frida to open up a bit. Frida had some back and forth with the Leicester girls talking about some of the plays including Sam’s goal. Overall, she was happy with the results of the interview, and how much the girls had come out of their shells.
Next was her interview with Courtney and Kyra who seemed equally nervous next to each other. They knew each other well though. YFN waited to sense the overall mood before she allowed herself to go in with some cheeky questions about Courtney’s tackle on Kyra, and Kyra’s debut. Her goal was to get them to start teasing each other, and it worked. At first, they didn’t want to address each other, and after a few comments here and there, it was more them talking and throwing cheeky comments to each other, and YFN could almost sit back and enjoy watching the show. She had to steer it a few times of course, both were young, but the tension between the two was obvious. For the sake of the viewers and their privacy, YFN made sure to make it known to the camera that they were teammates and brought up that they went to school together as justification which started a whole other line of questioning about their start in football.
Only when she was satisfied that she’d helped them break whatever awkwardness they’d previously had, did she end the interview, but not before she told Kyra how proud she was of her on camera for her debut. Courtney gave her a proud shove for that too.
Being Australians, and women, they all hugged their goodbyes, Kyra whispering a thanks into her ear. As they were packing up, she could see them still chatting as Courtney was being called away. She gave Kyra her phone and she typed into it what YFN assumed was her number. Courtney gave an awkward wave, obviously not knowing whether a hug was appropriate, and ran into the change rooms. Kyra turned to YFN with a grin and a little fist pump. It was adorable.
She looked past Kyra to where Leah and Jordan were standing, Jordan telling her she’d go on Friday. Leah’s expression flashed excitement before she contained it, and then it went a little shy as she pretended to be calm about it. They didn’t speak for long, just enough for Jordan to agree before she wandered off with Leah’s eyes following her longingly. She watched for a while until she met YFN’s eye and blushed, having been caught. She mouthed a ‘thank you’ to which she gave a smile in return.
“We really need to go.” Ruby stressed. She looked at the time and groaned. She only had time for quick goodbyes with everyone and a threat to Katie and Caitlin to not have sex in her bed. Katie seemed to enjoy the idea of the threat, to be honest, and that terrified her.
She rushed through security as quickly as possible and was the last person to board the flight, sweating and grateful she’d made it, though cursing herself for having to stay longer just to make sure Kyra and Courtney were good. As with her morning flight, she passed out immediately and wished she had a chance for a shower before seeing Lucy. Instead of a shower, she tidied herself up in the bathroom at the Barcelona airport when she touched down, changing her clothes and washing away the day. She brushed her teeth and did her nightly makeup routine, ignoring some funny looks. She sure as hell wasn’t going to let her skin suffer more than it already was with the change in weather between the UK and Spain.
Her Uber dropped her off at just before 3am and for some reason she was nervous, jiggling the keys Lucy had given her in her hands and playing with the little flags. At the front door she took a deep breath in and unlocked the door, entering as quietly as possible so as to not wake Lucy or Narla. She kicked off her shoes and left her suitcase in the entrance, not wanting to risk the wheels waking them. The smell as she walked into the house was home. Vanilla and bitter orange, and whatever the hell Lucy had been cooking for dinner. She swore she could even smell the big breakfast they’d had that morning. She looked at the trophy Lucy still had out and smiled, putting her phone on charge next to it before tip-toeing her way into the bedroom.
Lucy was quite literally dead asleep. She was on her back facing YFN’s side of the bed, one hand touching the pillow YFN had been sleeping on the night before. She was beautiful. She loved seeing her so vulnerable and herself. Her dark hair was spread out over the pillow, another thing she loved. Lucy with her hair down. She clicked the door closed quietly and snuck around to her side of the bed, avoiding Lucy’s collection of shoes around the bed. She carefully laid down and when she touched Lucy’s hand to move it, she jerked awake, her head rising and her eyes opening.
“It’s just me.” She whispered and put a hand to her cheek, coming closer so Lucy could see her better without her glasses.
“What? What?” She was dazed and confused, her body tense.
“Shhh. Shhhh.” She comforted and cuddled up to her, her head finding Lucy’s collarbone. “It’s okay, it’s just me. I’m sorry for scaring you.”
“Little one?” She asked, unbelieving. “You…you’re here.”
Her arms wrapped around YFN tighter than they ever had before, holding her close to her body, her own body softening into her. “Is everything okay?!”
“Everything’s fine, Luce. I have the next two days off. I’m all yours.”
Lucy groaned happily and kissed her wherever she could reach.
“Sleep now, Luce.”
“You’re home,” she whispered huskily with emotion, her voice already fading.
“I’m home.”

Matildas x (platonic) reader- movie night
it was the 4th of November so it was basically Christmas in the young Matilda's book and somehow you had convinced the rest of the Matilda's team to have a movie day after their win against Chinese tei pei on Wednesday. The Matilda's obviously said yes and we're now all squished together on bean bags and the couches tryna get comfy for the probably thousands of movies that they were gonna watch. You were sharing a bean bag with Kyra who had her arm around your shoulders. Christmas was your favourite holiday and it was close-ish to Christmas so they decided a Christmas movie would be fine.
We started off strong with the animated and live action grinch but ran into a problem when , Kyra Sam and macca got into a fight over which one was better. You and Kyra said the new while macca and Sam said old
"The new one's better!" You and Kyra shouted
"No the old one is, it's the og" Sam said
"Just coz it's the og doesn't mean it's better!" You said and a few people around watching the arguement nodded while Alanna filmed the interaction
"Yeah it does" said macca
"No it doesn't" said Kyra who you knew didn't really care but she was gonna back you up anyways so you sent her a grateful smile
"the new goosebumps series is better than the original" you said and macca and Sam looked confused
"There's a new goosebumps series?" Caitlin asked and you immediately stood up in pure shock and looked at everyone who shock their heads saying they also hadn't watched it which caused Kyra to stand up aswell
"You guys are joking right?" She asked
"Me and y/n/n started watching the day it came out" Kyra said as you nodded your head in agreement
"Ok Christmas movies on hold we're gonna watch the new goosebumps series" you said walking over to the remote and putting it on
After the first episode you and Kyra looked around to see everyone's shocked faces.
"Better than the original so far than Sam?" Kyra asked and Sam nodded her head while you and Kyra laughed and pressed the next episode.
Once they had finished the 7 episodes that had been released and everyone complained about the cliff hanger macca said they should watch a horror movie.
"Noo!" You yelled out
"Yesss!" Macca, Hayley, Ellie, Alanna, Sam, Alex, Caitlin, polks, Emily, mini, Courtney, Mary and Clare said which meant they were outnumbered. People who said no being Kyra, Charli, teagan and you and when you realized that the four of yous groaned as you subconsciously held on tighter to Kyra on the bean bag which was situated right infront of the door to the balcony. Macca got up and tried to get the remote from you but you put up a good fight but nether the less got it ripped from your grip.
"No I don't want to." You said getting as you realised something "I don't have to be here! I can leave if I want!" You said and began walking to the door before Alanna, macca, sam and Caitlin stopped you
"Nuh uh" Caitlin said blocking the door
"Your watching it" alanna continued as if they were reading minds
"Because if you do we'll admit the cartoon grinch is better" Sam smirked and madi shook her head
"That's not enough! I already know the cartoon grinch is better" you exclaimed chucking your hands up in exaggeration as everyone laughed
"Okay, okay. Well- omg I can't believe I'm about to say this. Well watch Marley and me with you and do a Harry Potter marathon" macca said sighing, her shoulders slumping while your jaw dropped
"Wait really?" You asked getting and excited and looking to Steph who smiled at the you before looking back at macca, Sam, Caitlin and Alanna who nodded, excepting defeat. You, Kyra and Charli had been working together to try watch them films with the girls for ages and had been unsuccessful till this moment. "Pinky promise! And Kyra and Charli are coming!" You exclaimed as you walked up to all of them and tried to get your small pinky around all of their pinkies which made the rest of them laugh as you stuck the tip of your tongue out of your mouth in concentration. In the end you guys succeeded and cheered in success then you went back to Kyra as they picked the movie.
Macca and Sam ended up choosing the nun which made you glad you were atheist otherwise she would've never wanted to step foot in a church again because then nuns gave you literal nightmares. Throughout the movie you kept glancing behind you just to check nothing had climbed the balcony and was going to try and kill you. Whenever there were jump scares your face would immediately hide in either Kyra's shoulder or shirt as the older girl would rub your back for comfort.
When the movie was over and everyone began getting up to head to bed you clung to someone at all times and were constantly checking your surroundings to make sure no one was going to jump out and try kill you or your team mates (though you could live without macca, Caitlin, Alanna and Sam since it was their fault you watched this in the first place). Everyone was walking back to their rooms while you were clinging to Steph and making sure to keep in the middle of the group.
"Ok maybe it was a bad idea to watch a horror movie with y/n/n" macca said scratching the back of her neck while Sam, Alanna and Caitlin agreed.
"Safe to say she's not a horror movie gal" Alanna said and everyone laughed as you ignored their comments and were focused on making sure there was nothing out of the ordinary coming to get you.
"I'm just glad I'm not rooming with her" Sam said turning to Caitlin as she walked the opposite direction to her room while Steph walked with you and Caitlin back to their room considering you wouldn't let go of her and Steph wanted to make sure you were okay before heading off to bed herself.
"You kay y/n/n?" Steph asked as Caitlin unlocked their room and walked in with you and Steph in tow.
"I feel like and old lady is gonna jump out and kill me with her holy spirits" you said shaking slightly while Steph and Cait stifled a laugh at her choice of words
"You gonna be okay tonight?" Steph asked getting more concerned the more she looked at the paranoid teen.
"Yeah. Does garlic work for nuns do you think?" She asked no one in particular.
"Y/n/n nothings coming for you and if they try I'll protect you okay. I'm here if you need me during the night I'll stay up all night if I need to 1. Because it was partly my fault you watched the movie and 2. We don't have training so it wouldn't affect much. You're gonna be fine" Caitlin assured and Steph nodded her head along. You nodded aswell and went to hug Steph goodnight, Steph hugged you back and kissed your head before leaving the room. Caitlin patted her bed, next to where she was currently sitting and motioned for you to come sit next to her. You smiled and ran and jumped into her waiting arms and once she noticed you were comfortable she turned on the tv and found Marley and me which shocked you as you looked at Caitlin confused.
"Well I did pinky promise" she stated smiling down at you which made you break out into a grin and snuggle closer into her side "annndd" she added dramatically which made you look up at her "because I thought it would help you sleep better" she finished with a smile and pulled you closer to her to the point you were practically on top of her. This was one of the times that reminded you no matter how much some of the girls teased and made fun of you they cared about you more than they let on.
Halfway through the movie you had fallen asleep on Caitlin which was understandable considering it was past midnight while Caitlin finished the movie and actually enjoyed it though she wouldn't admit it to you she will definitely watch it with you again and you wouldn't have to bargain as hard for it. Caitlin turned the lights off, shuffled you onto the pillow beside her before moving herself to her pillow, turning the tv off after she finished all of that as she was using it for a bit of light and went to bed herself after kissing your forehead and whispering goodnight eventhough she know you couldn't hear her.

Stargirl | matildas x original character fic [part eleven]
Tumblr media
Words; 2.4k
Pairings; matildas team x astrid taylor (OC)
Warnings; swearing
masterlist
The camp ended and everyone headed back home to their clubs for their next matches, sad to be leaving each other but it was only a month until the next camp against South Africa and then Denmark.
Kyra, Courtney and Astrid had returned to training at Hammarby, quickly preparing for their next match in only four days' time. It was going to be one of the quickest turnarounds for a match Astrid had ever had but she was ready to jump back into training and get onto that pitch.
On their second day of training, before they had even begun their warm up, Astrid and Kyra had been approached by the club’s social media manager as they were walking through the halls together.
“God morgon tjejer." (Good morning girls) She waved to them as they got closer.
“Hallå.” (Hello) Kyra smiled, slowing down her speed to meet her halfway.
“God morgon.” Astrid spoke with a bright smile.
“Before you start training today, could we film a quick video with some questions? For the instagram page.” The woman spoke with a heavy accent.
“Ja, of course.” Astrid nodded, looking over at Kyra who was nodding yes to her as well.
“Perfekt. Come with me please.” She gestured back down to where she came from, the two Australians following close behind.
They were led to an empty pitch, not far from where the rest of their team were chatting before they began warming up. Two chairs were placed in front of a camera where the two girls had been led, sitting next to each other in their warm jackets, trying to block out the changing weather and cold breeze.
After being told what they were doing and briefed what to say, they started rolling.
“Hi! I’m Astrid Taylor.” Astrid waved to the camera.
“I’m Kyra Cooney-Cross.” Kyra waved with a smile.
“And today we’re going to…” Astrid looked at Kyra.
“Take a best friend quiz and see how well we know each other.” The older girl finished the sentence. The social media manager handed them each some cards and instructed Kyra to go first.
“Okay, easy one. When is my birthday?” They were now facing each other and Kyra could see slight panic forming on Astrid’s face. “You better know this.” She raised a brow at her.
“I do, I do. Uhhhhh.” She lifted her head to the sky, pretending to think even though she knew the answer. “February 15th, 2002.” Astrid looked back at the girl who was smiling.
“That’s correct. One point to you.” Kyra nodded.
“Yay. When’s mine?” Astrid’s eyes flicked down to the card then back up to Kyra’s.
“April 13th, 2004.” Kyra spoke confidently.
“Well done.” Astrid nodded with a smile.
“Okay, when did I make my Matilda’s debut?” Kyra read from the card before looking up.
“Oh shit. Uhhhhhh.” Astrid had to actually think about this. “I know it was like mid 2021.” She looked at Kyra who was nodding. “And it was against Denmark?” She tapped her chin. “I wasn’t even on the team yet so it’s not like I was there to know, but I did watch it at home. Is that good enough?” Astrid pleaded with Kyra.
“Is it?” Kyra looked to the manager.
“Half a point.” She responded.
“Yes! I’ll take it.” Astrid smiled. “When was it though?”
“10th of June.” Kyra nodded at her.
“Right. When was mine? This will be easy cause you were there and it wasn’t that long ago.” Astrid argued but waited for Kyra to respond.
“9th of April, 2022. AND you scored your first goal too, which is just crazy.” Kyra complimented the girl across from her who blushed slightly but moved on quickly.
“Another point to you. How many goals have I scored with the Matildas?” Astrid asked the next question with a smirk.
“Uhhhh…” Kyra filtered through her brain for the answer. “I’m gonna say 5 or 6 maybe?” She looked hopefully at Astrid.
“It was 5, so far.” Astrid smiled as she waited for Kyra to ask the next one.
“Point for me. How many siblings do I have? And what are their names?” Kyra asked with a smile.
“Easy. Three sisters.” She looked at Kyra who nodded. “Mia, Shani and Mali?” She raised her brow hopefully.
“Another point to you.” Kyra nodded.
“Final questions, because from the looks of it,” She paused and both girls looked over to where their team was beginning to warm up in the background. “We’re technically late to training.” Astrid laughed towards the camera. “Okay, what are your three favourite qualities of mine?”
“It does not say that!” Kyra laughed and leant forward to check Astrid’s card, finding the question was true. “Ugh, okay. I would say… you're very goofy, you have an incredible strike from both feet and… you’re always very positive. You have an ability to bring the energy up in everyone without even doing much.” Kyra spoke and Astrid felt it very hard to not blush at her, heart melting at her words.
“Oh my god, you’re so sweet.” Astrid playfully pushed her shoulder. “Finish this off will you, please?” Astrid nodded to the final cue card in Kyra’s hands.
“Alright, how would you describe me in five words?” Kyra confidently held up five fingers, ready for Astrid to begin.
“Ooooo, okay. Hilarious, quick, silly, determined and….” She trailed off as she watched Kyra drop a finger at each word, only one finger remaining. “Bright.”
“Bright?” Kyra smiled but was slightly lost.
“You just like, are never dull, or down. You’re always smiling and just, bright.” Astrid creates a gesture with her hands, making both girls laugh in their seats. Once they settled they looked up to see the manager telling them to wind things up.
“I think you won. But only by like half a point.” Astrid collected herself, looking at Kyra.
“Still counts.” Kyra shrugged proudly. “Anyway, we better get going and get to training.” Kyra turned to the camera and then to Astrid.
“Let’s go.” Astrid smiled before they both got up and pretended to run off to their team.
“Cut. Thank you.” Their social media manager thanked them as they removed their mics before saying goodbye and finally heading off to their warm ups.
After training hard for the past few days it was finally game day against Rosengård, Teagan’s current team and Charli’s previous one before going on loan to Vittsjö a few months ago. Although Rosengård were tough opponents already, Astrid knew it would be even tougher with Teagan in goal against her. She knew how Astrid played and where she liked to go for goals from being in training together, but this is what happens when you play for club and country, sometimes you have to go against your friends and alter playing styles to come out on top.
None of the three girls had been selected for the Hammarby starting XL but they were at least on the substitute bench and they would likely get put on later, Astrid especially. She didn’t mind the ‘super-sub’ reputation she had earned, always being able to deliver towards the end of games, but she would also like to start in more games and gain more minutes with her club.
The game started and within 17 minutes they had secured a goal and only a few minutes later a second in the 25th minute by the same player. Going into halftime they were buzzing, but still determined to keep going and secure the win because they knew Rosengård would come back fighting. And they did.
Kyra had been subbed on at around 60 minutes, Astrid not far behind at 70 minutes, coming to the left forward position with Kyra behind her in the midfield; it was time for them to make some magic. The coaches knew how good Astrid and Kyra were together, and how effortlessly they could pass the ball, wordlessly connecting with each other, proving them very useful subs in the later half of the game.
Kyra had battled the ball from the Rosengård midfielders, Astrid watching her and making a run closer to goal, trying to escape their tough defence. Once she had found enough empty space up near the corner, Kyra launched the ball to her, Astrid catching it with her chest and rolling it down to her feet. Immediately a defender found her again and she paused with the ball at her feet. She had two options here; be quick with her feet and dance around them with the ball. OR she could take inspiration from her national teammate, Caitlin Foord, and try for a nutmeg to get around her. Let’s just say Astrid was feeling adventurous today.
She made quick eye contact with the defender, both paused before looking back down at the ball. She moved her left foot to resume her play, making it look like she was going around the Rosengård player, instead shooting it through her and darting around the frozen player, catching the ball with her foot and heading for the goal.
She kept running with it, too risky to pass it down to anyone and deciding to go alone as she inched closer to a ready Teagan, expecting Astrid to take her regular shot with her right foot but scoop it to hit the left side of the net. But Astrid knew she would be expecting that so instead she struck powerfully, still with her right boot, but let it go directly to the right side of the net, watching as Teagan jumped for the left and missed the ball completely.
And in the 87th minute, the net rippled and the home crowd cheered, Astrid running straight for Kyra as she always did, jumping onto her when they met.
“SHE’S BACK!!!!” Kyra screamed in her ear as she caught her, holding her close as the rest of the team joined, patting Astrid on the head and cheering her on. “You fucking nutmeged her!” Kyra spoke into Astrid’s ear, shaking her shoulders slightly as the group of players parted, returning to their spots.
“I know. Cait will be proud.” Astrid smiled proudly, before parting with Kyra to go back to her position for the last few minutes of the game. As soon as the whistle blew, the Hammarby bench cheered and the team began to shake hands with their opponents.
“Good game.” The first player Astrid made her way to was Teagan in the goal, putting her hand out for a fist bump against her gloves.
“Nice shot. Wasn’t expecting that.” Teagan laughed before they pulled each other into a hug. “I’ll catch up with you later.” Teagan pulled back, nodding towards where both teams had started their separate huddles, Astrid following her gaze and turning back to Teagan.
“Of course! Bye.” They shared another fist bump before they jogged over to their huddles, Astrid slotting in between Kyra and Courtney, waiting for the coach and captain to speak about the game and their win. After the huddle was done, the team took their lap around the pitch to thank the fans for coming and supporting. The three Aussies were walking around the pitch, Kyra and Astrid now wearing jackets Courtney had given them, still not used to the cooler weather in Sweden. Astrid was chatting with the two girls when Kyra nudged her shoulder and pointed out a sign in the crowd.
‘Astrid Taylor/No. 13 Can I please have your jersey? (You’re my favourite… shhhh)’
A little girl, no older than 8, had been holding the sign over the barricade, waiting for her to spot it, eyes lighting up when Astrid finally did. Her heart instantly melted and she walked closer to where she was standing.
“Hello.” Astrid smiled sweetly to the young player.
“Hi.” The girl spoke shyly with a Swedish accent.
“Am I really your favourite?” She leant closer to the little girl who nodded with wide eyes. “Thank you! Well, I won’t tell the others then, but neither can you. If you promise to keep it between us… you can have my shirt. Deal?” Astrid grinned at her.
“Deal.” The girl spoke with a big smile. Astrid stood up again, unzipping her jacket and holding it between her legs. She was glad to have her long sleeve on underneath, shielding her from the wind once she took off the jersey on top. She slipped her jacket back on before holding the shirt out, grabbing a pen from her mum and signing her name and Hammarby number on the front before giving it to her.
“Tack!” (Thank you!) The girl squealed while looking at the shirt. Her mum held out her phone and passed it to Astrid with the camera open.
“Varsågod!” (You’re welcome!) Astrid spoke before snapping a selfie with the young girl and her family, passing the phone back, waving goodbye and walking back to Kyra and Courtney who were waiting by the tunnel for her.
“That was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.” Courtney remarked as they all walked towards the home side changerooms.
“That was the nicest I’ve ever seen you be.” Kyra spoke from the other side and Astrid’s jaw dropped, giving the older girl a light smack on the arm. “Jokes.”
“You are so annoying, Kyra Lillee Cooney-Cross.” Astrid scoffed at the aforementioned girl whose jaw had dropped; Courtney stifled a laugh at Kyra’s reaction and the full name drop.
“And you’re not? Astrid Mae Taylor.” Kyra fired back quickly, Astrid had the same reaction, eyes wide at Kyra.
“How dare y-” Astrid moved forward to hit Kyra again but Courtney held her arms back and pulled her away from Kyra.
“Enough, you two! You’re acting like an old married couple or something, my god” Courtney mumbled the last sentence as she pushed Astrid into the changing room, Kyra stalking in close behind. The closer they got, the more playful they became with one another. And boy was it annoying Courtney.
She was very glad that they didn’t in fact live with each other, even if the bickering didn’t last long, it would be a nightmare to live with the two of them under the same roof. She dealt with it enough at training, outside of training and even more at national camp, especially when you add Charli into the mix; the three of them were known to be annoying, playful and goofy off the pitch, often roping some of the other younger girls into their plans and tiktoks while they had time off.
This was one of the main reasons Astrid loved Matildas camps. Not only did she get the honour of playing for her country and her family; she got to spend all of her time with the girls she quickly called family and make memories with her best friends at the same time. So it was safe to say the next camp couldn’t come soon enough for Astrid.
to be continued...

How does it feel that IBVS is now over two times the size of an average novel
imagine if ibvs made those final utmv fandom disconnections and got a movie but it was really bad because they forgot to account for all the character development, whitewashed half the characters, straightwashed everyone except nevin and chris who are reduced to minor characters and dez who is just there for comic relief, introduced a random new character named courtney to be edward's girlfriend, deleted the individuality of edward's minions and also completely annihilated the plot by making the pool monster the main villain

Four university students tragically killed in a head-on collision with a ute on the Gold Coast
The three young women and a man killed in a horror crash in dangerous conditions on Saturday were university students visiting from Townsville.
The young occupants were travelling in a sedan which collided with a ute at a sweeping bend in Advancetown, in the Gold Coast hinterland, just after 1pm on Saturday.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the passengers but were unable to revive them despite their best efforts.
The victims have been named as Lochlan Parker, 20, Katrina McKeogh, 21 of Mount Louisa, Courtney Smith, 20, and Kirsten Van Gorp, 22, who all attended James University in Townsville.
They were on a sightseeing drive when tragedy struck.
Ms McKeogh’s sister Andrea penned a heartbreaking Facebook tribute hours after the tragedy, along with a desperate plea to other motorists.
Katrina McKeough (left) and Lochlan Parker (right) were among the four victims who died
‘I’m completely and utterly at a loss for words. Today around 1pm, my sister Katrina McKeough and three of our close friends Lochlan Parker, Courtney Smith and Kirsten Van Gorp were involved in a horrific car crash in the Gold Coast and were killed almost instantly,’ she wrote on Saturday night.
I don’t even know how to begin to process this. I loved my sister so much and I feel wretched knowing that the last time we spoke, we fought. Badly.
‘We never made peace with the argument, and now we never will. All I can say is to keep your loved ones close and to cherish every moment.
‘Don’t let pride get in the way of love. I never imagined that this would happen, but it has and I would give anything to have seen her one last time to make it right.’
She ap
I loved them all more than I can say and they all had such bright futures ahead of them. Again, I’m in shock and I don’t even know what to say.
‘Take care everyone and please, please f*****g drive safely.’
Queensland Police told Daily Mail Australia that the sedan driver lost control and smashed into the oncoming ute.
The male driver of the ute, aged in his early 20s, has been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with minor soft tissue injuries.
The bend was just west of an intersection between Nerang-Murwillumbah Road and Beechmont Road and the area had received heavy rainfall in the previous hours.
Queensland Ambulance Service acting senior operations supervisor, Bill Houghton, said it was one of the worst crashes he has ever seen, The Courier Mail reported.
‘It was a horrific scene,’ he said.
‘It’s probably one of the worst crashes I have been to.’
Courtney Smith (left) and Kirsten Van Gorp (right) were also killed in the horror crash
Three young women and one man have died after a horrific crash (pictured) between a sedan and ute in the Gold Coast hinterland just after 1pm on Saturday
Emergency services were out in force to pick up the pieces after the fatal accident
Police on scene said it was one of the worst crashes they had attended
He said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
‘There is a lot of work to be done in relation to the accident in terms of identifying these persons and advising next of kin, which has not been done at this stage,’ he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
Acting Operations Supervisor, Jay Nevins said the stretch of road is notorious for traffic accidents.
‘Nerrang-Murwillumbah road is known for road traffic collisions,’ he explained
‘It was ‘a tragic scene.’
More to come
The road will remain closed for several hours so forensic police can investigate the crash

Ooo please some fluff with Courtney Nevin, maybe the reader comforting court after the wc semis match or the other way round 🤷‍♀️
her support system┆彡 c. nevin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: courtney nevin x reader
summary: after england lost against australia in the semi-finals, courtney becomes a wag, comforting the love of her life. lioness!reader
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
you landed on your knees after the final whistle had been blown. australia had won the game making them move to the finals, while england had to compete for the bronze medal.
you looked at lucy, the one who took you under her wing when you first joined the senior camp at 16 years old. she gave you a soft smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
we were so close, you were tied with australia 3-3 until they scored a late tie breaker in the last minute of additional time in the second half. you wanted to do well, as it’s possibly her last world cup.
you felt someone sit beside you, as they pulled you into a hug. you felt the familiar smell of the shampoo, the love of your life uses.
“you did well, angel.” you hear courtney’s voice as you buried your head at the crook of her neck, the hot tears were falling out of your eyes. you felt her give you a comforting rub on the back, as she gave you a simple kiss on the head.
“now, can you look at me with those eyes?” you shook your head as she chuckled at your behavior. you lifted your head up to see her smile at you softly, filled with adoration.
she brought a hand to your face, as she wiped the tears away. you gave her a soft smile as she bopped your nose making you shove her hand away.
“there’s my pretty girl.” courtney said, as you hummed.
“let’s have dinner together?” you hummed, before giving her a soft nod.
“i guess i’ll see you later, angel.” you gave her a kiss on the cheek as she joined her teammates. you swiftly joined your teammates as you walked around the pitch together, strawberry kisses was playing in the background as you laughed.
the song has been stuck on your head, it was unbelievable. but when you arrived at your hotel room, you looked through your suitcase finding a nice white silk satin shirt that suited your black jeans.
you kept yourself busy by scrolling through tiktok, liking the ones that caught your interest before heading down to the hotel lobby. when you got there you saw courtney waiting, she was sitting on the one of the lobby’s chairs with paper flowers on her lap.
you gave her a soft smile before heading over to her, kissing her on the cheek as she gave you a soft smile. the dinner was simple, it wasn’t extravagant but it melted your heart.
you were walking along the sidewalk with courtney who intertwined your hands as you took a stroll. she had a picnic basket in her other hand that contained both of your favorite foods and drinks.
as you found a nice place in the park, she laid out a blanket before placing the basket on top. you both ate while watching the sunset, having minimal topics as you both wanted to enjoy the scenery in silence.
you laid your head on her chest, as she wrapped her arms around you. it was comfortable for you as you leaned back into her embrace.
“thank you, love.” you said, as she gave you a soft smile.
“always.” courtney said, as you hummed. you were so thankful of what she has done for you, and you appreciated the actions she showed you.

bcz i’m ur biggest fan could ya pls do no.2 with courtney nevin, bcz she is unbelievably gorgeous!! lotsa love 😘😘
Brushing your lover's waist/shoulder as they pass.
you're in the middle of an interview after the game- face still stinging from crying in the change rooms.
tonight definitely wasn't how you- or anyone really wanted to go. but you are so proud still.
"so obviously im assuming this isnt what you guys wanted?"
you swallow- thinking of a perfect answer.
"no yeah- absolutely, umm obviously it would've been amazing to make it to the finals. but regardless im so proud of how far we've come, and what we've done for womens sport in australia now. especially to see all these kids out there every night."
you feel fingers brush your lower back as you finish speaking, a figure passes and courtney slows to a stop next you- smiling softly at you.
her hand still resting gently on your lower back.
she's just slightly off camera but her unmistakeable smile shines at you.
"come on- we've got to get back now."
you look back at the interviewer and smile.
"thanks man, sorry to leave like this."
you walk away- courtney right behind you, her hand slips into yours and you squeeze her hand tight.

Can we have one where the reader plays for Portugal they don't score the goal to qualify for the team pretty much like the game against the USA and Alessia Russo tries to comfort her and make her stop blaming herself. If you can please!?
Thank you
-🤞
didn’t that match resulted into a draw? however, sure i can. i’m assuming this would be an alessia russo imagine? i’ll get started on it, however this one would be posted perhaps, after the courtney nevin one [since it was the last one on my recent poll].
actually, you know what i’ll get started on it now.
