what pet names do you guys think Korra and Asami use for each other? I’m partial to just ‘babe’ or ‘baby’ obviously but other than that i’m not quite sure. I think Asami definitely calls Korra ‘honey’ but at the same time can’t really imagine it the other way around.

Hi Harker! So I'm playing da2 for the first time after following you for years, and I really like what you've talked about before setting up tactics so that your siblings/romance/etc respond to come and protect you when under attack or below x health. Would you mind explaining how you do that? Idk if I'm missing something but these tactics options don't seem to be very extensive 🥴
it’s hard to do anything incredibly specific, “protect me if i’m under x health” might be beyond it, but: inputting Enemy Attacking: Hawke -> Attack will have them go for anyone coming after you. you can also input more specific commands for if Enemy Attacking: Hawke, like with my archer i’ve been having bethany or merrill cast horror to take anyone trying to attack me out of play for a bit. you could probably also have fenris or isabela use something like taunt or across the bow to draw the enemy’s attention from you, that would be cute. whatever takes ur fancy!!
(the above is not just fun storytelling it’s actual good tactics. protect ur squishies)
actually, you could probably use da2’s ‘Use current condition for next tactic’ action, which i haven’t taken advantage of before, to do something more specific. i wonder if you input ‘Hawke: Health <50% -> Use current condition for next tactic’ and then ‘Enemy Attacking: Hawke -> Attack’, maybe you really could have them particularly come to your aid if you’re already hurt. i’ve never tried this but food for thought!

Starting to consider the possibility I'm not actually a beginner in Japanese anymore? Like I'm definitely not intermediate yet but I think I might actually be at that grey area of pre-intermediate.

Has anyone studied a language with the method of automatic language growth (ALG)?
ComprehensibleThai on youtube appears to have some amazing lessons specifically for ALG study. I found them when looking for various comprehensible input youtube channels. I am still looking into what ALG is more, and the subreddit I found that defined it has quite specific guidelines you should follow when studying, and I'm very curious. I am still hunting down more information on ALG before I draw any big conclusions.
I'm seeing information like: the idea is to watch videos/teachers in lessons (and eventually real life situations if you're in a place it's spoken, or shows in the language with various situations) and focus on grasping what is going on. Not trying to translate in your head, not trying to make conclusions conciously of "they said dui and nodded so maybe it means yes" - but instead just trying to understand as if you were a toddler learning your first language: just recognizing "they communicated Agreement" or when people say words as objects increase maybe they're counting, or when people say words and point to themselves maybe it's about them. The idea is similar to studying Comprehensible Input (like TPRS or Francais par le Methode Nature etc) except that there are many Comprehensible Input studiers who simply watch what they can comprehend, even if comprehension is due to cognates and guessing based on what they already know about the language explicitly. For example: when I watch a spanish video, I can use spanish subtitles on and guess what some stuff means based on French that I know - I don't necessarily HAVE to rely on visually watching the situation going on and drawing conclusions for that situation/experiencing it. With ALG, it seems the idea is to primarily NOT analyze the unknown and guess, but instead to mainly focus on the VISUAL information to follow what's going on... with (from what I am getting the impression of) the assumption you will pick up the language over time from hearing it in situations you could understand from visuals/body language.
So with ALG, I also saw that you generally don't speak for around 1000 hours, basically until it feels natural like your native language to say a given phrase. If it feels natural to say a given phrase or word then say it, if it feels like you must think hard and figure out what to say then don't say it yet. So sort of how as babies, we made sounds and practiced, but perhaps only said mama when we wanted something for several months. Then eventually we said baba or bottle, then "want bottle."
Although... I'd say ALG sounds like it'd prefer you not to speak until the pronunciation feels natural... whereas with actual babies, they usually have bad pronunciation in their own native language until 2-4. They speak anyway, with the bad pronunciation, because kids have stuff they need to tell us lol! Like "hungry" "water" "tired" "play" "want that" "help." I couldn't say letters like L or T or S until I was like 4 in my native language, but I was saying full sentences of "I want X with Y" by age 2. Just with letters missing, as toddlers do, but understandable enough their parents know what they're talking about. I remember my nieces, as toddlers from 2-4, ranting for many minutes over what happened to them that day, just telling me, and I could understand them because I babysat them a lot but to a stranger a lot of my niece's words were hard to understand. Maybe ALG has you not speak full words until you feel they're easy to say, since you're an adult, so you can afford to postpone speaking in the language (and get help/your needs met in your native language or with gestures until then), and since as an adult you can potentially make a variety of sounds quicker than a baby? I'm not sure. That is an interesting thing to consider mm.
Anyway. I have seen in some of the ALG stuff I'm reading that suggests if you Deviate from the expected ALG study model, then you may develop some ingrained language usage mistakes. That may well be true, I don't know nearly enough about ALG or ingrained mistakes to draw any educated conclusion.
I personally don't care much if I do ingrain some usage mistakes, or accent mistakes though. So it's not a big worry for me. And it makes me curious: for people who have studied both using ALG methods and other methods, what was your experience? Did ALG work better in some areas of improvement, in all? Did ALG work worse for you in any areas?
I would expect ALG works a bit better for eventually having good OUTPUT skills, compared to Mass Immersion Approach/Comprehensible Input combined with anki study or purposeful vocabulary word-lookup study. Just based on my own experience, that method of "consume material you can follow the main idea of" and "look up key words you don't know so you understand more over time" is what I did A LOT of. And for me, it improved passive vocabulary amazingly well! I got good at reading FAST, which was my primary goal, so that was great. I got good at understanding the language in videos with visual clues fairly quick as well (a bit lagging behind reading skill), and listening to it (no visuals) also improved fairly good (at a noticeable lag behind reading skill). In terms of passive vocabulary, it eventually didn't make a difference if I learned a word through comprehensible input to me, or through looking up the word, because I'd run into words again and again in reading/shows that I'd eventually simply 'understand it immediately' just like my native language. There's a bit of a lag, where lets say if I know 5000 words and am studying 200 new words in a new book, I will recognize those 5000 words immediately whenever I encounter them... but the new 200 words I've only seen a little bit will still require time and effort for me to recall when I see them or hear them again. Then later, after enough exposure, those 200 new words will be easy to recall, and I'll be learning Newer words that are harder to recall. Overall, learning with the "look new words up, while consuming content in the language" works well for building a big passive vocabulary fast.
But active vocabulary remains very small, unless I use the language actively by speaking and writing - so if ALG suggests learning through experiences and situations, it also seems to me that ACTIVE vocabulary you can use without putting in a LOT of effort to recall also seems to develop faster the more it's in experiences you have. So ALG style lessons may help develop that active vocabulary better, because ALG lessons primarily SHOW you situations and SHOW you how people communicate in them. However, since I haven't studied ALG type lessons for 1000 hours... I am not sure if it runs into the same issues as MIA/comprehensible input With word-lookup, when it comes to active vocabulary. That issue with comprehensible input/word-lookup study is: after 1-2 years engaging in content (reading, listening), the learner still has not spoke or written yet, and finds it quite difficult to start and must look up Many things when starting to speak/write. That is the position I am in for the languages I study: I understand a lot, but cannot say much (grammatically incorrect or not). For ALG, perhaps their grammar will be better when they start speaking/writing as they internalized the language more naturally and unconsciously. But I am not sure if they'll actually have an easier time outputting the language, or like the other input heavy study methods, they'll struggle to build their active vocabulary. I'm curious about the ALG process for developing active vocabulary, and I'm going to look into more learner experiences where they shared that part of the process. I'm curious if that part of the process goes smoother for ALG learners.
Anyway... just a language learning method I am mulling over. If you're studying Thai in particular, ComprehensibleThai on youtube is an excellent resource to start studying using the ALG method. Dreaming Spanish, I think, was also designed to ideally be used like an ALG course so the creator does have some explanations of how to study it in an ALG way (rather than in the way where you look up key words along with watching comprehensible stuff - which is what I did, and a lot of 'comprehensible input' general studiers tend to do).

Every appearance of the red-haired menace that is early Laurence forces me to sit here and stew upon how I will fix his introduction in the rewrite. As a coping mechanism. Unfortunately since I can't remember the parts where his character isn't just harassment so I can't cook with the themes the way I'd like to. Like the way he calls Aph "my love" after she very explicitly in the text of the game tells him not to do that... bad vibes. I think I could rock with his character if he'd done the same sort of approach in hitting on Aphmau as heavily, but the moment she lays down an actual boundary, he backs way the hell off. I could even fuck with her trying to be subtle about the boundary and him not getting it and continuing to make her uncomfortable before she snaps at him and he apologizes, saying that he truly didn't mean anything by it, and he respects the boundary she lays like his life depends on it from then on out. It would create some immediate complexity in his need for explicit communication, and backs up the sort of deeper character hinting they seem to try to do when he's talking about Castor and Cadenza, this idea that he deeply cares, if being a bit pushy on accident. It would also make a good detail fueling the conflicts later on with the love triangle that can sort of prevent Laurence from looking like TOO much of a dickhead (him being unaware or misinterpreting situations, and the delicate nature of it making him uncomfortable asking questions, is a compelling reason to see somebody hurting his friends' feelings, and makes him significantly more sympathetic, opening him up for feelings of remorse and guilt).
#mcd#minecraft diaries#jeremiahs mcd notes#laurence mcd#i want autisic/adhd king laurence and im not even remotely joking#i think it would add a lot to his character to give him those struggles#if i'm recalling his character right anyways#i am still very early in the series#But i do recall vaguely there being conflicts where I was absolutely not on his side#and i had a very strong sense of justice as a kid so i imagine that i'm not making that up#but also its been 8 years so who knows#but i think he can still very much get off on the wrong foot with aph and it can still be good#i think honestly having him get off on the wrong foot and then work to make it up to her would be good as hell#bc it's a situation in which she sees him be willing to work on himself without much prompting#(aka as soon as he's told there's an issue he starts to work on it and she doesn't have to ask)#and she goes oh actually. you know what. maybe hes not a dick.#and she starts to be more comfortable around him over time#It might create this dynamic where it feels like he's always trying to catch up to her level#Always apologizing always being the wrong one#and then eventually when she does something that he can't just smile and bear#(as all friends hurt each other on accident one time or another#it is unavoidable we are but human and i believe Laurence would let a lot of things slide bc he knows how much she's had to forgive him for#And I can see as well it not going over well bc aphmau is not used to the idea of being the wrong one#and she had a reason for what she did and she gets defensive#Causing an uncomfortable moment of tension#I also think that there could be a good spot where Garroth is being more controlling as to try to protect aph and she is bothered by it#feeling in that moment very robbed of control and like he's not listening to her#and then here's laurence#who is willing to build himself anew brick by brick with her input#Like this is how I would overthink it if I wanted a true love triangle conflict introduced to the plot here

• Civilian cell mitosis guide •
Step 1: Input Genome data into the replicator. If you have done it correctly it will create a "Ding" noise
Step 2: Provide at least one sample of your physical self to the chute in the replicator, this can be anything from your hair, fingernails, spit, cytoplasm, cell membrane or anything of the sorts.
Step 3: Ensure the sentriols are in the right placements (Opposite to each other in the tank) before providing the replicator its spindle fiber. The spindle fiber should go in through the small hole next to the genome input.
Step 4: Closely examine the replicator while in it's metaphase and anaphase. If one or more chromosomes do not split properly to their designated location, call the T cells immediately
Step 5: Once metaphase and anaphase go through successfully, wait 20-22 hours for the replicator to complete mitosis.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why cancer cells are bad for the body and how to spot them before they complete the mitosis cycle
Why cancer cells are bad for the body:
Cancer cells have the possibility to go rogue and cause chaos by replicating outside of the mitosis program, multiplying quicker than other cells in the body.
Cancer cells also hoard nutrients and starve other places in the body, causing malnutrition and slowing metabolism in other areas of the body while ensuring their own kind can replicate as much as possible
Cancer cells also do not heed the programmed cell death, ensuring their numbers always increase.
Worst of all, cancer cells are not limited to one area of the body, if they successfully go through metastasis, they can and will inflict the whole body with cancer, almost guaranteeing the body's end.
How to spot a cancer cell:
Does the cell inside your replicator look exactly like you? If not, that is a cancer cell.
Does the cell have extra features that a normal cell like you doesn't have (e.g. 3 eyes, 4 arms, 2 heads, ect.)? If yes, that is a cancer cell
Does the cell have any deformities on their physical features (e.g. odd colored eye(s), discolored cell membrane, unusually proportioned limbs, ect.)? If yes, that is a cancer cell
Does the cell struggle to do basic things you can do (e.g. walk, respond to outside stimulus, talk, ect.)? If yes, that is a cancer cell
Does the cell oxidize and consume nutrients unusually quicker than you do, and request more nutrients be delivered? If yes, that is a cancer cell
If one or more of these apply to your newly replicated/currently replicating daughter cell, call the T cells immediately. Do not hesitate, do not panic, do not worry. If you are unable to contact the T cells, quickly let any immunocyte in your area know of your situation and they will help you. Do not risk the body's safety because of your mistake.
Now does that make Guizhong an illuminated beast? Probably not. I think it's more likely that she is actually a Seelie, bearing the imagery of a phoenix due to Celestial association with birds.
I'm listening to Ashikai's video on Guizhong again from 2023's Lantern Rite, which is the first time since I've personally also gone rabid on the intense depth of Guizhong's moon references, the details of the Glaze Lilies and how similar they are to the Nilotpala Lotuses, and most importantly what that means. And listening to this again (and for those who happen to be curious, here's a link to her video which will have the above quote make sense, and I've timestamped it in case people want to skip past the run-through of Guizhong's lore and get to the extra-interesting stuff), so much just... clicks and works. I genuinely do think that Guizhong, at the very least, was a Seelie. But the implications of this, and the implications that I think might go beyond this. /shakes fist immensely, vigorously.
It's so warm-- I can't be coherent. I'm not even the Pepe Sylvia meme, this is the Hoyoverse: Guizhong edition, of Brian David Gilbert trying to explain Kingdom Hearts.
#guizhong. [ many things only seem to surface beneath the moon's poignant glow. wherever its light shines; the heart is wont to follow. ]#guizhong: little notes. [ she always sought to make everyone happy and one must say: she had quite the gift for it. ]#dust... ashes... phoenix. phoenix imagery across liyue harbor -- i used to wonder if it was tied to ningguang but... /but/...#but i also agree with ashikai that i don't think ningguang's tie to a phoenix is as strong as people claim it to be. or rather...#i think it's representative of her story which is more so tied to her journey of obtaining the status and position that she now holds.#rather than being directly representative /of/ a phoenix itself. outside of that-- ningguang isn't officially the /ruler/ of liyue.#i feel like people forget this or conflate this. the /qixing/ rule liyue. of which there are /seven/ members. they JOINTLY rule the nation.#the reason why ningguang's position of tianquan seems different is because it's the only position that is played in the spotlight.#it's /supposed/ to.#but i talk about this because people could note the phoenix imagery across liyue to be tied to ningguang. but--#liyue harbor has existed for a /long time/ before her. not exactly in the state that it exists in today; but it existed. she wouldn't have.#had input for obvious reasons. sure; she could have ordered them to be installed recently. would she have though? we don't know.#but i'd need to see more obvious personal ties to the phoenix for her to believe she sees herself as the /empress/ of liyue harbor.#considering she isn't even its sole ruler. but i digress.#any way i digress. this is a mess. i'm warm. /death.
i often want to ask for your opinion on world building stuff because i have no idea what to do with statecraft and i think your input could really flesh that stuff out, but I worry my method if story telling is too disorganized and strange, and i fear that in trying to describe the setting we would clash horribly and you'd realize i'm obnoxious. so just know that I appreciate your posts a lot and think your interest in world building and having absolute power is cool, lol <- your mutual who's currently spam liking and reblogging your stuff
honestly non-conventional ways of doing worldbuilding do have their merits too like. Sometimes things are disorganised because you pick up facets of the world that interest you in the moment and work on those and simply leave other stuff behind? It happens it happens and from what ive seen your worldbuilding is fascinating! Alas I'm particular about methods but that's less about any part being obnoxious and more about like. contrasting ways to achieve the same result imo
but thank you!! someday I'll be isekaid into a fictional setting and then you'll see. you'll all see
ok so in the show i’m crewing right now with the theater i work for, one of our out-of-company actors that was hired is an ambulatory wheelchair user and she’s incredible and the theater and management have made it this whole production to try an accommodate her needs through the process. Which is wonderful!
But on the part of the the theater it comes of as so disingenuous to me (especially with the way they’ve been publicizing it on social media), knowing that i spent last semester crying after every rehearsal due to the way my disability was treated and i was considering quitting theater altogether. and even going into this production the way i’ve been treated has been subpar. and it makes me so angry but i can’t talk to anyone i know about it because i dont want them to think im bashing the actor when im really just pissed at theater management.
#i think part of the problem is i’m a university fed hire#while the actor was hired out of company as freelance#and so for me it’s just another nail in the coffin about the way this theater treats their student workers#but like i was hired for two positions in this show. and i was (not gracefully) fired from one of the positions#so i could ‘focus on my other position’ and not strain my disability too much#obviously this was decided without any input from me#the stage manager who was making me cry last semester and spreading very personal information about my disability#was out of company hired as well and she is not invited back for many reasons#but when i made my complaint about the way she was treating my disability i got a ‘we’ll talk about it tomorrow and im sorry that’s happen’#only for it to never be discussed until the following semester after the show had ended#and i received a ‘we’re going to try and do better than the last show where details of your vulnerable medical episodes were shared without#your consent’#i love this actress and disability solidarity all the way#but i’m frustrated with the fact that she’s getting accommodations i could never dream of getting#while i’m still being told that my disability is too inconvenient for some jobs#we’re the only two mobility aid users to work for this theater and i’m baffled by the different reception between the two of us#i’m just so. tired. of being treated like a liability#and watching someone else be treated great by people who’ve stomped on me makes me want to never work in theater ever again
