Just been noticing how c moschata cotyledons (or my Honeynuts anyway, the one in the cup) have a velvety fuzz that feels like a puppy's ear, compared to the slightly grittier texture that c pepo cotyledons generally have. It's subtle but cool to have a way to distinguish them even as seedlings, in case you made your annual mistake of saying "oh I don't have to label these, I'll just remember" haha definitely not me twice already this season, but just a tip for in case YOU foolishly did it,

School Update!
I have been pretty absent from my art while in school to become a vet tech. Just know I'm still alive and working hard! I've just passed the halfway point for veterinary assisting!
My school provided backpack is comically large on me. Been feeling like a korok in need of a ride (yahaha!)

Some representative examples of seeds from eudicots and monocots are shown in Figure 18.1. (...) Instead, the perisperm and storage cotyledons serve as the main sources of nutrients during germination (see Figure 18.1). (...) Specialized embryonic structures peculiar to the grass family include the following (see Figure 18.1):
The single cotyledon has been modified by evolution to form an absorptive organ, the scutellum, which forms the interface between the embryo and the starchy endosperm tissue.
The basal sheath of the scutellum has elongated to form a coleoptile that covers and protects the first leaves while buried beneath the soil.
The base of the hypocotyl has elongated to form a protective sheath around the radicle called the coleorhiza.
In some species, such as maize, the upper hypocotyl has been modified to form a mesocotyl. During seedling development, the growth of the mesocotyl helps raise the leaves to the soil surface, especially in the case of deeply planted seeds.

Cotyledon tomentosa
This species is sometimes referred to as "bear's paw" because of its fuzzy leaves with claw-like teeth along the upper edge. The flower stalks and the outsides of the flowers are fuzzy as well, and the plant almost looks like a plush-toy cartoon of a plant. The one pictured is the variegated form, with yellow-and-green streaked leaves. It comes from southern South Africa, occurring in both the Western Cape and in the Eastern Cape. Cotyledon belongs to the Crassulaceae, or Stonecrop Family.

In another study, the LEA proteins of recalcitrant and orthodox seeds were compared to determine whether any of those expressed in orthodox seeds were absent from recalcitrant seeds (Figure 21.31).
