I'm really sympathetic to a lot of the criticisms about period dramas of the last ~decade, but I also see period drama circles making fun of women in pants wielding weapons than...I actually see women...in period dramas....wearing pants and wielding weapons...

#i have a lot of thoughts about this but the truth is that a lot of period dramas don't allow women to be ANYTHING #they can be snarky and edgy but they can't seriously upset the status quo #they can complain about corsets but they can't wear pants and they're still going to be dressed in a conventionally feminine style #...just...without the support garments of the era #they can complain about the patriarchy but not SERIOUSLY challenge it #or react realistically to it (which is NOT the same as being fine with it)
