Weird how dishonest it feels to refer to things as they are, when they don't look the way you're used to picturing such things looking like. My mother was a sales agent in chemistry tech, the company representative whose job was to sell mass spectrometres to another company's representatives whom she needed to convince to buy their specific machines. As a child, my understanding of a "business trip" was my mom going into some big-ass lab company's offices in her 90s Businesswoman Pantsuits to stand in a room full of men in grey suits, discussing corporate budgets and protein structural analysis just as fluently in english or in german. Big, serious, formal professional business things.
I'm going on a business trip. It feels weird saying that. I am literally embarking on a journey to another continent, as a part of my job. My flights, hotel, and transport between locations have been arranged. I have appointments to show up for, business partners to meet, and duties to attend to. I signed an official, legal contract where I explicitly agreed that I will do everything in my power to honour the agreement as it has been stated, because my presence and contribution are genuinely important for this endeavour. For all intents and purposes, this is a business trip.
I am going to show up to the premises, dressed like a homeless teenager, walk up on a stage, and give a bunch of furries an elaborate explanation of what the fuck is wrong with me.

Featuring: AU - No Upside Down, AU - Different First Meeting, AU - 1990s, Flight Attendants Steve Harrington & Robin Buckley, Comic Book Artist Eddie Munson, Fear of Flying, Panic Attacks, Meet-Cute, Fluff and Hurt/Comfort, Flirting, Eddie Munson Has a Crush on Steve Harrington, Steve Harrington is a Sweetheart, POV Eddie Munson
It's Eddie's first time flying, and he's absolutely terrified. Luckily, there's a very cute flight attendant on board who makes it his mission to stay by Eddie's side for emotional support.
Snippet below!
Tumblr media
Eddie adjusts his seatbelt for what feels like the hundredth time in the past ten minutes. He keeps pulling the buckle tighter and tighter around his middle, because that makes him feel safer; but eventually, the belt starts digging into his stomach and making it hard to breathe, only adding to his anxiety, so he loosens it again. And then he starts worrying if he made it too loose, so he tightens it again.
A girl about his age keeps glancing at him from the window seat with an amused smile, eyebrows raised. Eddie finally had enough of her attitude and turns to glare at her. She flinches and turns her attention back to her book.
At least the middle seat between them is empty, so he can have a little bit of privacy. Eddie looks over at people across the aisle who are less lucky than him, packed like sardines into the three consecutive seats. He’s not sure how he’d have survived being constantly nudged with someone’s elbow or knee.
Eddie forces himself to leave his seatbelt alone and takes his own book out of the seat pocket in front of him. He brought The Hobbit, hoping that reading it during the flight would calm his nerves. But he just flips through the pages mindlessly, unable to focus on the words. After a while, he gives up, puts the book away and tries to pay attention to the pre-flight announcements instead.
They are just now reminding passengers that smoking on board is not permitted. Eddie curses. He's nervously itching for a cigarette already; and the Indy to LA flight will apparently take over four hours, Jesus Christ. Eddie did consider some liquid courage before the flight, but frankly, he was afraid it would only make him hurl.
Eddie stops listening after “in the event of an emergency…”, because that alone creates images in his head enough to make him want to bolt out of his seat and right out of this plane while he still can. Instead, he reaches for his walkman with a Metallica album inside and puts on his headphones. With the familiar guitar riffs filling his ears, he finally relaxes a little, his gaze falling upon the flight attendant currently demonstrating how to use a life jacket. He’s really cute, Eddie briefly notes, but the idea of needing a life jacket once again fills him with icy dread. He looks away.
For a while, Eddie just stares blankly at the back of a seat in front of him, tuning out everything else. Out of the corner of his eye, he notices the cute steward stopping next to him. At first, he doesn’t even register that the guy is speaking to him; when he does, he jerks his head up, and is kind of dumbstruck for a moment because wow, up close the steward is even prettier. His eyes are a gorgeous hazel color with specks of green, and his sun-kissed skin is covered in little freckles and moles. His lips keep moving soundlessly as Metallica keeps blaring in Eddie’s ears; he’s smiling at Eddie, and it makes his stomach flip.
Then, he curses himself. Of course the guy is smiling. It’s part of his goddamn job, being polite and pleasant and all that corporate bullshit. Mortified for just dumbly staring at the man for the past several seconds, Eddie rips the headphones off his head, wincing when it feels like he’s plucked a few of his own hairs in the process.
“Uh, shit, sorry, what?”
The steward keeps on smiling politely, glancing at the walkman in Eddie’s lap.
“Sir, if I could ask you please to turn off all electronic equipment during take-off,” he repeats almost robotically, not a hint of annoyance about having to repeat the same thing he said while Eddie was ignoring him. “You’ll be able to freely use it once the seatbelts sign has been switched off, but for now, please keep your walkman off.”
“What? Why?” Eddie frowns. He belatedly realizes it was probably mentioned in the announcements. Which he didn’t bother listening to.
“The airline’s regulations,” the steward explains calmly. “Personal electronic devices can interfere with the aircraft navigational systems.”
Suppressing an annoyed groan, because he realizes it’s not actually the guy’s fault and he’s just doing his job, Eddie clicks the button on his walkman. Fantastic. Now he doesn’t even have his tunes to distract him from the imminent terror of being lifted several miles up in the air in a giant metal box that by some fucking magic is meant to be flying. (Eddie understands cars. Cars make sense. Planes don’t.)
How the fuck can his walkman interfere with the plane? And what, when they’re actually in the air, it will no longer do that? What a load of bullshit.
Eddie doesn’t realize he said that last part out loud until he hears a chuckle beside him. He glances up, wide-eyed as the cute steward, who was apparently on his way to the next row of seats when he heard Eddie, leans close to him and whispers, “It kind of is. But them’s the rules. Sorry about this.”
And then he flashes Eddie a brief grin, which is nothing like his polished customer-friendly smile. It’s like comparing a light bulb to the fucking sun. Eddie still feels the warmth of it in his heated cheeks several minutes later, when the plane is taxiing towards the runway. Sue him; he’s not immune to a pretty boy smiling at him like that, even if it’s just to cheer him up.

Strawhat Real World Jobs
Yes Oda did give out alternate jobs for all the strawhats in an SBS but I will die before I accept Zoro as a cop and I have a few other quibbles and elaborations I'd like to put forth for Modern AUs. I want you to keep in mind that I'm writing this from a distinctly US American point of view so some of the job cultures may be slightly different to your locality.
Luffy- Firefighter: this one is correct. Luffy needs a job that is highly physical with low organization and intelligence requirements (sorry) This man is not going to college. He isn't a hero but there's no other legal way to get the adrenaline rush he needs. Also firefighters have a higher tolerance for fistfighting than other jobs, but not as much as construction. I think he could do construction labor if needed but I also think he would get bored. He would also be a PR nightmare as a professional athlete or wrestler. Could make it as a YouTuber but only if someone else edited his videos. Honestly YouTuber Luffy is your best choice if you want to preserve the feel of canon in a modern world.
Zoro- Cop: I'm sorry Oda but this is dumb as shit. Zoro would get asked to serve an eviction to a struggling mother of three or clear out a homeless encampment and quit on the spot. Or he would get into fights with other cops and get walled out and have to quit. He could still be a swordsman as a professional Kendo fencer? Athlete? Idk what they call those but he'd go on the pro circuit and absolutely decimate. He'd teach at a dojo in the off seasons. I'd also see him as an athletic trainer. I think Zoro could make it through college
Nami- Nursery School Teacher: While Nami is canonically very fond of children and quite good with them this feels like kind of a cop out. I think meteorologist suits her skills really well and I think she could kill it in the looks contest that weather anchors have to play.
Sanji- Stylist: I love this one so much. Idk what the original was but a stylist in the US refers to either a personal stylist which is a person who picks rich people's outfits or a hair stylist which is a person who cuts and styles hair, usually women's. Both jobs are associated with flamboyant gay men. He goes to his job and he gasses up women and calls men ugly for eight hours and then comes home and cooks Luffy dinner because he got texted a picture of the most fucked up eggs you ever did see that morning.
Ussop- Graphic Designer: I honestly have no notes. Yeah Ussop can hold down a steady job, and yeah it should be art focused. What is art but lying anyway?
Chopper- Grade School Teacher: This one is just so cute. He's got a childishness to him that makes kids like him and he has a soft caring personality that makes him good at his job. He can also be strict when he really has to. I agree Chopper would be a great elementary school teacher
Franky- Pilot: I guess? The thing is I think flying a plane for a job is both stressful and boring and I honestly don't think it suits him as well as say mechanic. I think Franky would be great as a mechanic souping up hot rods and doing weird custom jobs and he would be very entrenched in the local car scene. I also do just love mechanic characters
Robin- Flight Attendant: We all know this is just for Frobin reasons. And while the idea of a hand sprouting from your fold down tray to serve you your in flight meal is charming Robin deserves better than being Franky's beautiful assistant. Also I don't wish customer service upon her after all her suffering. I think she would be a great lawyer. She's smart, she's eloquent, she's poised- she'd kill it in the courtroom. She does corporate law for Crocodiles unethical company for a ridiculous sum before quitting to start her own firm and defending Luffy's numerous aggravated assault charges cause she likes him.
Brook- Detective: I'm not really sure why they picked this but I now want a detective story where Brook runs around solving mysteries (wait isn't that just skullduggery pleasant?)
Jinbe- Train Station Attendant: This is really cute, but we all know he'd be a retired yakuza boss. Maybe in some wild world where none of the strawhats turn to crime. I think he would be a local institution and know a lot of people and ask them about their families and such

What does Nobita want to be when he grows up? While he once said he has no clear career goal (職業テスト腕章, 1981 manga story), there are many future jobs he's thought about, including being a teacher, police officer, actor, or doctor. But Doraemon uses the "Time TV" (タイムテレビ) to show that he would probably fail at those jobs.
Tumblr media

Using the "Career Testing Armband" (職業テスト腕章), Nobita has tried being a teacher, bookshop manager, and manga artist.

Source: 職業テスト腕章, 1981 (manga)
He also wanted to be the chairman of a broadcasting corporation, but when Doraemon helped him set up his own TV network, it got so little sponsorship that Nobita had to ask his friends to pay to be on his channel.

Once Doraemon walked in on Nobita dangling himself from the ceiling, trying to prepare himself for becoming an astronaut.

Nobita has also pondered becoming a pilot, mostly so he could work with Shizuka, since being a flight attendant is one of her aspirations. Though he gives up on this dream after running his own airline with the "Tricycle Plane" (三輪飛行機) ends in disaster, which Doraemon thinks is for the best.

So what does Nobita do in the future? The manga does not say, except mentioning he works for a company (ガールフレンドカタログ, 1978 manga story). In a guidebook for the short film Mini-Dora SOS!!, Nobita is said to be a surveyor for an environmental protection agency (コロコロコミックデラックス 映画アニメドラえもん・ドラミちゃん, 1989), but this information was not included in the film.

Thanks for the tag @breathing-and-stuff & @bullets-from-another-dimension!
1. Are you named after anyone? - No.
2. When was the last time you cried? - I don't remember.
3. Do you have kids? - No.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? - Oh yes, maybe too much even.
5. What sports do you play/have you played? - Nothing, I'm really not an athletic person. I had to participate in basketball and volleyball during P.E. back in school, but that was more than a decade ago. I sort of enjoy playing badminton with friends in the summer very occasionally (i'm bad at it tho). I like playing pool (billiard) the most, I can't say I'm particularly good at it, but that's my strongest out of the typical pub sports (pool/snooker/darts/foosball).
6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people? - I tend to check their face, hair and hands, but it can be the way they walk or their voice, it really varies from person to person.
7. Scary movies or happy endings? - I don't like scary movies, but I don't mind an unhappy ending, so it's partially both?
8. Any special talents? - I can draw, duh. I was not aware that I am apparently a decent sharpshooter until I attended some company team building events where we could try multiple weapons and played paintball.
9. Where were you born? - North-East Hungary.
10. What are your hobbies? - Drawing mostly.
11. Do you have any pets? - Nope.
12. All-time fave piece of media? - It's very hard to choose, but I'd say the Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex anime series maybe.
13. Fave subject in school? - History.
14. Dream job? - I wanted to be a flight attendant for quite a while, but I am too short and I can't swim, so bummer. But I like my current job actually, despite it's very Corporate™ nature (I am an internal auditor and a risk management consultant at a Big4).
15. Eye colour? - Dark brown, which looks like the surface of Mars in extreme close-up:
Tumblr media
I'm just back from a little vacation, so idk who filled this already, so i'm just going with an open tag!

annual recurrent flight attendant training day 1/2 [08-19-24]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
day 1 of my annual FA training is complete.
• first aid [practical]
• first aid [written]
• opening/closing exam of the eight aircrafts in our fleet [practical]
• emergency evacuation procedures [practical]
• standard operational procedures exam open/closed book [written]
• location/safety/security aircraft knowledge exam [written]
• fire extinguisher / drager smoke hood firefighting exam [practical]
• unruly passenger restraining exam [practical]
• oxygen bottle & mask application & usage exam [practical]
• medipak usage exam [practical]
all passed 90% or over.
highlights
• have the same training days as a colleague who I got hired with last year, who is one of the funniest people I've ever met. Helped ease any nerves I had
• during first aid in pairs, one of my friends/colleagues was committed to his role of "the injured patient". It was so painfully overly dramatic, I cried tears of laughter
• ran into my role model at the company ! hadn't seen him since 2023 and missed him dearly. he is currently climbing the corporate ladder with no sign of slowing down, was so nice to see him. Had a huge smile on my face the whole interaction
• got the taste of healthy stress again in an educational environment. It is great fuel
• made me that much more excited to go back to college in a couple of weeks
what I ate
• breakfast - yogurt & granola bowl + ginseng stick
• lunch - grilled cheese
• dinner - falafel veggie wrap
final thoughts
overall a packed day, but was happy to get the more difficult exams out of the way. It's a lot easier to be friendly and sociable in a classroom environment, than on the actual job, due to the trainings calm nature.
I am grateful for the way FA training is formatted, and allows me to cram for many exams within one day. It makes going back to college feel a lot less daunting.
I want to do some research regarding how nutrition can positively impact female hormones throughout the day. I always feel lethargic when I have to attend a class after lunch (12:30-3:30), even if I haven't eaten right before. I'd love to converse with people who study these subjects, or possess this knowledge due to their field of study.
I am a bit nervous for tomorrow, because we blend with the pilots for training for "crew resource management". It helps to enhance the quality of communication amongst each other, so we will be able to work together more efficiently. It's a bit intimidating !!
Im going to do my review for a couple of hours, then go to bed early so that I can complete most of my review after a solid rest.
have a good night every one :)

long rant below re: covid
(i wouldn’t imagine people would want to reblog this but just in case; please don’t reblog)
i am so fucking tired of being treated like i’m clinically insane for thinking covid is still a problem we should be concerned about. i am so sick of this. i’m not even fucking immunocompromised ejther i just don’t fucking want it again and apparently that’s an unpopular opinion. for context my corporate job sent me to a company conference this week out of state (we’re remote so a lot of people flew in from a lot of places in the US). i’ve been skipping these yearly events ever since the pandemic started obviously because the air travel and conference rooms are a huge risk. however there’s a ridiculous amount of PRESSURE to attend. they won’t say outright that it’s required (that’s probably not legal in most cases) but bosses, managers, coworkers all expect you to be there and will grief and FOMO you in “lighthearted” ways if you don’t with the looming threat that they’ll think you aren’t participating enough and look into firing you. so i fucking went to this one.
strike one was the fact that there wasn’t a single mention of covid or precautions anywhere in the initial documentation and information about the event. in the past year or two they generally haven’t fucking masked as these things so i expect the worst, but i figure since it’s 500+ people this time versus the 50-100 at the smaller departmental meetings, and because new strains are actively spreading, maybe people will think better of it. BOY was i fucking wrong. as you’d expect i show up in my KN95 and there isn’t a fucking mask in sight. i get weird looks. are they assuming i’m antivax and masking for my safety? or that i suffer from debilitating paranoia? i feel partially like i’ve been gaslit into believing the latter when it comes to covid lately with how every one of my peers seems to be living in a completely different fucking reality where they don’t need to mask at a 500 person event where we’re all in a conference room with poor ventilation like sardines and we all just took 2+ hour flights into this city.
the meals are the same, possibly THE least covid sensitive way to serve a meal aside from us all passing a chicken leg around the dinner table; they have 40 or so tables set up again, in a conference room with no effort at ventilation, WHEN ITS 70 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND THIS COULD HAVE BEEN HOSTED OUT THERE IN THE SUN. and they have fucking buffet style meals. come the FUCK on. it’s a joke at this point. HR who organized this must just be on fucking crack man. so not only am i pressured to go to this event but due to my being the only masked person and getting weird looks i unmask more frequently than i would’ve liked, though any “optional “ events (meals) i bail extremely quickly from since i’m not comfortable with it and outright skip lunch on the last day
speaking of which, the morning of day 3 we of course get an email (not a message in the chat channel for this event even though it’s where all the other communication on it, employee questions etc HAS been) saying that someone tested positive and we were all potentially exposed. no general information on WHEN or what panels (since wednesday was split between a few smaller panel discussions) so i have no inkling of what my risk factor is. that’s all they say though, because why cancel thursdays meetings due to a potentially massive covid exposure? after all the government regulations are nonexistent now so why would HR give a fuck anymore, the well being of employees? I email them back asking if they plan to release any more information on where we might’ve been exposed or whether it was last night, morning, tuesday, and essentially get a fuck you back from them saying they’re not releasing anything else.
the worst part of this is that nobody around me fucking cared. if a few people chose to stay in their rooms after that announcement, i didn’t notice, but the volume of people going around unmasked like nothing was wrong the rest of the day was jarring. at this point i figure i must look like the anonymous sick person walking around masked when nobody else is and i just don’t fucking care at this point. nobody talks about it and nobody behaves any differently, distances, anything, except for this ONE girl in dev i was sitting next to who also put on a kn95 and moved to the back of the hall after the sick person texted her saying they’d had close contact the day before.
my rage eventually wears off by the end of the day when the shuttles to the airport arrive, by then my coworkers have gone and had their three days in a row beers and are buzzed chatting each other up and i’m huddled in my fucking seat barely holding back a crying session because everything is sinking in. after being told outright they were exposed my direct coworkers get to the airport, only one out of five of them put a mask on, and proceed to go through the airport and on their flights unmasked. which unrelated but the airport was literally crammed full due to delays and there were people hacking shit up everywhere, i am not over exaggerating since i’ve been in the airport a number of times since the pandemic and it was never this bad. the PLANE itself has like 2-3 people doing that gross hacky cough when you have stuff in your lungs, and the coworkers that were on my flight didn’t mask
like i guess i just don’t fucking get it. i can see how people would be so stuck in their own world that they don’t consider the well being of the disabled people that apparently are invisible to society - but do THEY want covid again? with increasing risk of long term effects? i’ve had it and it’s not just a fucking cold, even with all your shots. is it just a mild nuisance to them? more of a nuisance than something as simple and easy as wearing a mask - even if it’s just one of those shitty cloth ones that doesn’t actually do anything? the whole experience is isolating, it really makes me feel like i’m the insane one living in another reality and they’re all the down to earth normal ones (and yes i heard the term “now that the pandemic is over” while i was there too). they’re not those types of anti mask people since they DID mask during the earlier months but i think we need to broaden our scope with the term anti mask
anyways i call my mom this morning to vent and she gives me the same exact shit - well you have your shots so that’s all you can really do, you don’t need to go ‘panic mode’, i was in the car doing sales with my coworker who had covid two weeks ago and i’m not freaking out (how is that even the same) - just seeking to invalidate my concerns and pretend covid is just a fact of life now. this mindset on a larger scale contributed to the death of millions
tldr work dragged me out to a conference, didn’t lift a finger to do the BARE minimum to protect us from covid and the inevitable happened. also i don’t get to fucking enjoy the weekend with my bf who finally got sat/sun off work because of this. AND their are plenty of people at that conference who extended their stay to vacation with family and, yeah.

My 2022 Roundup
Tumblr media
Phew! What a year.
2022 started with news of some disappointing corporate shake-ups at The A.V. Club — my main freelance home for the past nine years. After leaving the site in solidarity with my wonderful departing editors, I went all-in on a full-time contract gig with FOX Digital only for that to rather unexpectedly end in mid-November. Add in the tumult that has taken over Twitter in the last third of the year, and I’m ending this year without any of the pillars of stability that have propped me up for my entire career, not to mention nearly my entire adult life.
And, yet, remarkably, I also feel more rejuvenated and excited than I have since the start of the pandemic. After a challenging 2021 took a fairly drastic toll on my mental health, 2022 was filled with adventures that pushed me out of my comfort zone and reminded me that I’m capable of more than I think I am.
I started the year covering virtual Sundance, which was my first experience with a major film festival like that. Then in March I hopped on a plane for the first time since 2015 (!!!) to attend SXSW, where I saw a Dolly Parton concert, watched Nic Cage watch Nic Cage play Nic Cage, and just generally had 10 of the most surreal, exhausting, exhilarating days of my life.
May brought my first-ever on camera interview, with Cha Cha Real Smooth writer/director/star Cooper Raiff, who was in town for the Chicago Critics Film Festival. Then June took me to L.A., where I watched a dear college friend get married and took my first-ever trip to Disneyland! (I also dealt with my first major cancelled flight snafu and managed to have only a minor emotional breakdown in LAX.)
The adventures didn’t stop there, as I took a relaxing trip home to St. Louis in August, dashed around like a madwoman covering the Chicago International Film Festival in October, and took a semi-spontaneous trip to New York City in November, where I squeezed in five Broadway shows amongst catching up with friends old and new.
The year wasn’t all easy, of course, especially when it came to the major mental adjustment of switching from a freelance lifestyle to the structure and demands of a full-time job creating a brand new section with a two-person team.
And it was incredibly bittersweet to say goodbye to some of the long-time anchors of my career: My episodic recaps of This Is Us (my favorite show I’ve ever gotten to write about in such an in-depth way) and especially my long-time A.V. Club column When Romance Met Comedy, which came to a close after 101 columns totaling 187,227 words.
I’m especially proud that my final four WRMC entries (Roman Holiday, Win A Date with Tad Hamilton!, 2005′s Pride & Prejudice, and How To Be Single) really sum up the scope of what I was trying to do with this four-year project. And though it was kind of nice to take a break from writing about rom-coms for most of 2022, I feel like the genre is calling me back again in 2023.
Other highlights of the year included celebrating Nathan Chen’s gold medal win at the Beijing Olympics (I’ve been following his skating career since 2016!), spotting Nate from The Bachelorette at my screening of Black Adam, re-hauling my wardrobe, getting my bivalent booster (a major turning point in pandemic safety — get yours today!) and reconnecting with friends I hadn’t seen in person in years.
I also created a public Instagram account, recapped “The Slap” Oscars, delved deep into the nerd-spheres of the MCU, Stranger Things, and House of the Dragon, and kept things going strong with my podcast Role Calling, where we covered the careers of Meg Ryan, Antonio Banderas, and Zac Efron, and released a series of Lord of the Rings specials that I’m especially proud of.
Oh and I picked my 10 favorite films of 2022, even though this is the first time in years that I didn’t actually publish any official year-end coverage:
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
Living
Cha Cha Real Smooth
Elvis
Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.
The Woman King
Aftersun
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Saint Omer
Turning Red
As we head into 2023, I’ll leave you with wishes for a Happy New Year and a roundup of all the major writing and podcasts I did in 2022. If you enjoyed my work, you can support me on Kofi or PayPal. Or you can just share some of your favorite pieces with your friends! That really means a lot.

contemplating quitting my corporate job and becoming a flight attendant

As a person working in finance for a large corporation, with a father in a data management job for a large company, and a flight attendant mother, this has easily become Shit Show Friday for my entire family.
idk if people on tumblr know about this but a cybersecurity software called crowdstrike just did what is probably the single biggest fuck up in any sector in the past 10 years. it's monumentally bad. literally the most horror-inducing nightmare scenario for a tech company.
some info, crowdstrike is essentially an antivirus software for enterprises. which means normal laypeople cant really get it, they're for businesses and organisations and important stuff.
so, on a friday evening (it of course wasnt friday everywhere but it was friday evening in oceania which is where it first started causing damage due to europe and na being asleep), crowdstrike pushed out an update to their windows users that caused a bug.
before i get into what the bug is, know that friday evening is the worst possible time to do this because people are going home. the weekend is starting. offices dont have people in them. this is just one of many perfectly placed failures in the rube goldburg machine of crowdstrike. there's a reason friday is called 'dont push to live friday' or more to the point 'dont fuck it up friday'
so, at 3pm at friday, an update comes rolling into crowdstrike users which is automatically implemented. this update immediately causes the computer to blue screen of death. very very bad. but it's not simply a 'you need to restart' crash, because the computer then gets stuck into a boot loop.
this is the worst possible thing because, in a boot loop state, a computer is never really able to get to a point where it can do anything. like download a fix. so there is nothing crowdstrike can do to remedy this death update anymore. it is now left to the end users.
it was pretty quickly identified what the problem was. you had to boot it in safe mode, and a very small file needed to be deleted. or you could just rename crowdstrike to something else so windows never attempts to use it.
it's a fairly easy fix in the grand scheme of things, but the issue is that it is effecting enterprises. which can have a looooot of computers. in many different locations. so an IT person would need to manually fix hundreds of computers, sometimes in whole other cities and perhaps even other countries if theyre big enough.
another fuck up crowdstrike did was they did not stagger the update, so they could catch any mistakes before they wrecked havoc. (and also how how HOW do you not catch this before deploying it. this isn't a code oopsie this is a complete failure of quality ensurance that probably permeates the whole company to not realise their update was an instant kill). they rolled it out to everyone of their clients in the world at the same time.
and this seems pretty hilarious on the surface. i was havin a good chuckle as eftpos went down in the store i was working at, chaos was definitely ensuring lmao. im in aus, and banking was literally down nationwide.
but then you start hearing about the entire country's planes being grounded because the airport's computers are bricked. and hospitals having no computers anymore. emergency call centres crashing. and you realised that, wow. crowdstrike just killed people probably. this is literally the worst thing possible for a company like this to do.
crowdstrike was kinda on the come up too, they were starting to become a big name in the tech world as a new face. but that has definitely vanished now. to fuck up at this many places, is almost extremely impressive. its hard to even think of a comparable fuckup.
a friday evening simultaneous rollout boot loop is a phrase that haunts IT people in their darkest hours. it's the monster that drags people down into the swamp. it's the big bag in the horror movie. it's the end of the road. and for crowdstrike, that reaper of souls just knocked on their doorstep.

Exploring a Career as a Flight Attendant
Tumblr media
A career as a flight attendant offers excitement, travel, and the chance to interact with people from all walks of life. For those with a passion for adventure, hospitality, and customer service, becoming a flight attendant careers can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. This blog explores what it takes to embark on this career, the responsibilities involved, and the benefits of working in the airline industry.
The Role of a Flight Attendant
Tumblr media
At its core, the role of a flight attendant is to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers on board an aircraft. Before a flight, attendants check that safety equipment is functional, confirm emergency supplies, and prepare the cabin for takeoff. During the flight, they provide services such as serving meals and drinks, assisting passengers with special needs, and addressing any concerns or emergencies that may arise.
Flight attendants are also responsible for giving safety demonstrations and guiding passengers during emergency situations. They must be prepared to handle medical emergencies, turbulence, and any disruptive passenger behavior. Therefore, training programs cover a wide range of topics, from first aid to conflict resolution and security measures.
Training and Requirements
To become a flight attendant, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, though many airlines prefer candidates with additional education in fields like hospitality, communication, or foreign languages. Formal training is provided by airlines and usually lasts several weeks. This training involves learning safety procedures, customer service skills, and airline-specific regulations. Additionally, flight attendants must pass medical and background checks and be certified by the governing aviation authority.
Language skills are a major asset in this field. Knowing multiple languages can increase your chances of being hired, especially by international airlines. Furthermore, physical fitness is important because the job can be demanding, requiring attendants to lift heavy luggage, stand for long periods, and adapt to jet lag and varying work hours.
Challenges of the Job
While the job may seem glamorous, there are significant challenges. Flight attendants often work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Their schedules are irregular, and being away from home for days at a time can make it difficult to maintain a consistent routine. Additionally, flight attendants must adapt to different time zones and manage fatigue from long-haul flights. There’s also the stress of handling emergencies or dealing with difficult passengers.
The physical demands of the job are considerable. From pushing carts down narrow aisles to helping passengers with overhead luggage, it requires a great deal of stamina. Despite these challenges, many flight attendants find the work rewarding, especially the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures.
Perks and Benefits
One of the greatest attractions of a flight attendant career is the travel benefits. Flight attendants often receive free or heavily discounted flights for themselves and sometimes for family members. This perk enables them to visit destinations around the world that they might not otherwise have the chance to see. Additionally, many airlines offer generous health insurance, retirement plans, and paid vacation days.
The job also provides exposure to diverse cultures and the chance to meet people from around the world. It fosters a sense of independence and adaptability, as you constantly learn to manage changing environments and new situations. For those who thrive in dynamic settings and love to travel, the perks of being a flight attendant often outweigh the challenges.
Career Growth and Opportunities
The flight attendant role offers career advancement opportunities, including senior or lead flight attendant positions. Some may move into corporate training roles or become supervisors or managers. There are also opportunities to work in other areas of the airline industry, such as in human resources, corporate communications, or in-flight operations.
Overall, a career as a flight attendant is ideal for those who are passionate about customer service and eager to see the world. While the challenges are real, the benefits of travel, cultural exposure, and personal growth make it an exciting option.

Navigating Opportunities in Business Aviation: Flight Attendant Jobs Board
Tumblr media
The business aviation industry is a dynamic and competitive field, offering unique opportunities for pilots, flight attendants, and aviation professionals to work with some of the most prestigious aircraft and clients in the world. If you’re a professional seeking a role in this industry, having access to reliable resources for jobs, like a Flight Attendant Jobs Board, is essential. From contract pilots to jump-seat access, knowing where to look and how to navigate these opportunities can help you secure a rewarding position in business aviation.
Finding Opportunities on a Flight Attendant Jobs Board
A Flight Attendant Jobs Board is one of the best resources for aviation professionals looking for opportunities, whether as a full-time corporate flight attendant or on a contract basis. Unlike traditional commercial airline jobs, business aviation roles can range from single-flight assignments to long-term positions for executive clients. These job boards often feature exclusive listings for corporate flight attendants, as well as positions within private and chartered flights. Many of these roles require candidates to possess advanced skills, such as the ability to cater to high-profile clients and provide specialized services.
In addition to standard job listings, these boards often include valuable resources such as industry news, training updates, and even networking opportunities. By keeping an eye on job boards specifically tailored to business aviation, you increase your chances of finding roles that align with your skills and experience in private and corporate flight environments.
Dassault Falcon Contract Pilot Opportunities
For pilots, one of the most coveted contract roles is the Dassault Falcon contract pilot. Dassault Falcons are some of the most sought-after aircraft in business aviation, known for their efficiency, luxury, and cutting-edge technology. Contract pilots for the Dassault Falcon are typically required to have considerable experience, particularly with similar high-end aircraft, and often need specific training on Dassault Falcon models like the Falcon 7X or Falcon 900.
The demand for Dassault Falcon contract pilots is high, as owners and operators look for skilled, adaptable pilots who can manage short-notice flights and provide exceptional service. Business aviation staffing agencies frequently recruit contract pilots for Dassault Falcons, offering roles that range from temporary assignments to semi-permanent contracts, depending on the client’s needs. These roles offer significant flexibility and are ideal for experienced pilots looking to manage their schedules while still working with top-tier clients and aircraft.
Understanding the Flight Deck Jumpseat
While the flight deck jumpseat is often associated with commercial flights, it’s an important aspect of business aviation as well, especially for crew members who may need quick access to aircraft to support a busy schedule. In business aviation, access to the flight deck jumpseat can be vital for training, operational efficiency, and even for observation purposes, particularly during certification or evaluation flights.
The jumpseat can also serve as a practical solution for crew members, such as additional pilots or mechanics, who need to be onboard without taking up passenger space. In some cases, business aviation professionals will use the jumpseat to travel between assignments, ensuring they can reach their next contract or training location efficiently. Having flight deck jumpseat privileges can be a strategic advantage for contract pilots and flight attendants, as it opens up travel flexibility that standard seating options don’t always allow.
Business Aviation Staffing: Tailored to Fit Unique Needs
In the highly specialized world of business aviation, finding the right crew and support staff is essential. Business Aviation Staffing agencies are experts at connecting professionals with roles that match their unique qualifications, whether it’s for short-term assignments or long-term roles. Staffing agencies in this field go beyond traditional recruitment, often managing contract terms, coordinating training, and arranging licensing for high-demand roles, such as Dassault Falcon contract pilots and corporate flight attendants.
One of the main advantages of working with a business aviation staffing agency is the access to exclusive job opportunities that aren’t typically advertised on general job boards. These agencies work closely with private operators, flight departments, and aircraft owners who seek highly qualified staff for business aviation roles. They match candidates to the specific needs of the employer, ensuring the right fit for both skill set and personality.
How to Navigate the Business Aviation Job Market?
Success in the business aviation industry requires networking, continuous training, and staying informed about trends in staffing and job availability. Here are a few strategies to stand out:
1. Build Your Network: Many business aviation opportunities come through personal connections. Attend industry events, join aviation associations, and engage with fellow professionals on social platforms.
2. Use Specialized Job Boards: Rely on resources like Flight Attendant Jobs Board and Business Aviation Staffing agencies to find roles that align with your expertise. These platforms are tailored to the specific needs of the business aviation industry and often feature high-quality job listings that you won’t find elsewhere.
3. Stay Current with Certifications: For roles like Dassault Falcon contract pilot, maintaining current certifications and training specific to certain aircraft models is crucial. Many employers prioritize candidates who are up-to-date with their credentials and possess specialized training.
4. Consider Jumpseat Access: If you frequently work contract roles, having flight deck jumpseat access can make it easier to reach assignments, especially on short notice. This added flexibility is valued by staffing agencies and operators alike.
The Future of Business Aviation Careers
As business aviation grows, demand for specialized roles such as Dassault Falcon pilots and corporate flight attendants continues to rise. To meet this demand, professionals are finding new ways to connect with employers and contract clients through targeted platforms and staffing agencies.
Resources like Flight Attendant Jobs Board dedicated to flight attendants, agencies focused on business aviation staffing, and opportunities for flight deck jumpseat access have made the industry more accessible and streamlined for those looking to expand their careers. By staying connected to these resources and continuously investing in skill-building, aviation professionals with NVOII can stay competitive and prepared for the exciting opportunities that await in business aviation.
