I may not be around much today. Yesterday I got both the new coronavirus vax and the new flu vax, like that post I reblogged later recommends; and, like that post also says, the next day seems to be when they hit you. I'm already having trouble staying asleep nights and last night it was bad.
At least I wrote a gag to draw for Three Faces

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting in my study, fully dressed and ready to go! Welcome to 2024!
Welcome to the working week although, for those of you working in the NHS, welcome to just another day.
Itâs currently 2.30 a.m. The cab will be here at 3.30. By the time most of you are reading this, I will be at Heathrow Airport, killing time. Flight leaves at 8.00 a.m. Ten-hour flight. Arrives Montego Bay 1.00 p.m.
Iâm going to spend a few days with a mate. The rest of them are going to the family house. I will join them in time for the wake.
Many thanks to everyone that listened to the radio show. If you missed it, itâs up on Mixcloud. It gave me a lot of pleasure to feature three acts that donât get enough recognition: Sly & The Family Stone, Sylvester and The Salsoul Orchestra.Â
My father in lawâs funeral is on Saturday, January 6th, which is why I wonât be able to do my radio show. Iâll be back live in the studio on Saturday, January 13th.
I wouldnât describe this trip as a âholidayâ. The Trouble is there to bury her dad and give him a good send-off. Sheâll be fragile for a while.Â
Definitely looking forward to some sunshine. Itâs 26 degrees in JA today, rising to 31 on Saturday. I plan to be outdoors as much as possible and get some colour on this sad, pasty skin.
Iâm taking my laptop, so I should be able to do some kind of status every day. Iâm looking forward to spending time with my JA family, who will ensure that Daddyâs funeral is a memorable day.
I hope your New Yearâs Eve went well, whatever you did. Some people like raving, while some are happy to drink (and fall asleep) in front of the TV. I had fun at The White Lion, as you can see from my pictures.
2024 will be whatever you want it to be. Yes, there will be challenges and disappointments (just like 2023) but thatâs life. Like Frankie Beverley said, life is a subtle balance of joy and pain, sunshine and rain. Outside of the inevitable ups and downs, 2024 is down to you. If you work hard and work smart, 2024 will be a brilliant year for you.Â
Have a marvellous and momentous Monday. I love you all.

reply roundup!
I guess vaguely once a month is just how these things work now, I do try to read everyone's tags and replies and stuff but a lot of them I just don't really have anything to reply with sorry! as always I appreciate the supportive words and well wishes and stuff <3
I also love the trifurcation of responses to [go to bed]: one group of people is like "yeah u right I sleep now thanks", one is like "sorry but I can't", and one is just like "no! I refuse!!!" lol
I did get two different "posts that have 10k to me" tags though, on [one] that actually passed 10k and [another] that is still barely triple digits and will probably stay there XD
anyway [chess kirb] was on the radar which is neat
also my birthday is this weekend :)
oh yeah and reminder that I also have a craft blog @sleepy-princess-craftery
on [the last roundup] @sacrasm said: oh the clonk'd is just my queued post tag! thr other one is self explanatory he is little he is pink and i affectionately call things freak sometimes (in combination with other words)
ohhhh that makes sense lol it was the clonk'd that I was baffled by thank you for explaining -u-
on [drowsy] @ceylonsilvergirl said: being laid up sick or injured is terrible, but I think we also need to acknowledge that itâs also boring as hell. canât do anything fun. boring boring boring
it is!!! it's so boring!!! especially since I'm already baseline sick all the time so I have less options to start with, so to do even less than that is literally nothing!
anonymous asked: Gwah being sick sucks. I wish immune system upon you!
thank you! (I think I actually need less immune system? on account of the immune disorder. but either way I do not have an active infection anymore đ)
on [tumble] @chefwhatnot said: get chucked idiot
where's that post like "'get (blank)ed idiot' is the funniest joke" cuz they're right
on [mask] @macro-microcosm said: glad you're feeling better! i agree that we should all still be masking up, it bothers me soooo much to see that so many people have stopped
like honestly, scientifically speaking it is way more effective and more accessible than just leaning on vaccines, and it protects people from all kinds of stuff not just covid! but nobody wants to wear masks and even people who think they're being cautious just want to lean on vaccine requirements, which is doubly inaccessible for me personally and probably millions of other people :( stresses me out too.
anonymous asked: Magicking you up some new containers
thanks! they didn't have what I wanted at target but we got some usable stuff from daiso, so at least it's not all still shoved in a ziploc bag.
@thewizardgnome asked: But what if I say bye
I mean yeah you can do that too if you want I guess lol
on [paper] @breathelifeintothatsoul said: Cool! I've always wanted to try and make my own (recycled) paper one time
it's fun! there's a lot of extra steps you can add in if you want to, but the absolute basics of it is just dump a bunch of paper strips into a bin, fill it with water, wait until it breaks up enough for your liking, then dunk some kind of stiff screen into it (horizontally) so you can pull out even layers of pulp to dry somewhere.
on [paper] @hermitfox said: oooo making your own paper is do much fun, I have fond memories from kindergarten doing that. ... actually what stops me from doing that as an adult. I should make paper again
do recommend, making things is fun and also good for you :) also the paper pulp is very Texture (affectionate) (to me) (I'm sure to others it can be very Texture (derogatory) but I like it)
on [yarn] @ceylonsilvergirl said: I am very envy of people who can follow a pattern, I canât do that. I can do a friend being like âOh this next one is two one two oneââ, i canât translate abbreviations into an idea in my mind. give me a diagram instead
I'm the opposite tbh, I find the abbreviations really easy to follow but looking at a diagram for knitting and crochet just turns into like, visual noise if it's more complex than like, a single fan stitch or whatever.
@my-life-is-a-bad-sitcom asked: Youâre Kirbyâs are so cool and I love your art style. Honestly awesome. Giving you a standing ovation. đ
thank you! I love to draw a little guy
anonymous asked: I saw you on tumblr radar just now!! congrats!! -@secondbeatsongs
woah thanks sbs!
@darkchaogarden-blog asked: Tumblr's doing that dumb thing it's been doing lately where I can't reblog anything, so I'll just write to you personally that your art is excellent! Have a good day!
that sounds like such an irritating bug but thank you! I hope you had a good day too whenever this was :)
on [chess] @shiinteractsif said: dudes at the search thingy image. congrats
oh cool I wondered where the radar posts showed up on mobile!
on [chair] @mads-is-tired said: iâve never played a kirby game but i desperately want to BECAUSE LOOK AT HIM
honestly so valid, he's basically a character brand to me (like hello kitty or rilakkuma). I'm probably biased, but I feel like the best games to start with are either forgotten land (the one that came out on switch last year) or crystal shards (originally for the n64, also available through the nintendo online vc). I think they're the most visually appealing (aside from epic yarn which is not a mainline game) and while they reward exploration they're not as complex as some of the handheld titles to fully explore, nor are they as hand-holdy as some of the other console titles. a good middle ground of feeling like you did the thing, without being frustrating.
on [soup] @give-soup-please said: ME #soupblogging #fucking same
how delightful that this post managed to find you :) these tags make me happy whenever I think of them
on [soup] @lord-chiopet said: me too bud. you too op hope the weather approved
good news, the weather has improved :) now it is overcast and drizzly, my favorite!
on [chess] @wealmostaneckbeard said: Neither of them know how to play so they made up some rules...
what a cute idea! I hope they are having fun with their new game.
on [baseball] @hutbug said: the teal color is called northwest green and we still wear it all the time!! its beautiful u did an amazing job
thank you for the info! before this season I hadn't really had access to baseball for the past like 8 years or something and a lot has changed lol so I didn't really trust my memory
on [blue] @ceylonsilvergirl [added] "I CAN TRY AGAIN TOMORROW! Or next week! or next month..."
that really is the vibe lately huh.
anonymous asked: Your kirbys bring me daily serotonin
aww good!

Please forgive me if this is overreaching, but I read over the post you recently reblogged about the pandemic, and I have to ask purely out of curiosity... do you believe that the pandemic was a hoax?
Hey nonny. If you're asking this in good faith, it's definitely not overreaching. I'm assuming that's the case, which is why I'm choosing to answer, and the answer is: no.
No, it was not a hoax. If it's the post I'm thinking of, I definitely was reblogging for the last addition by a mutual of mine that matches my own experience, and in the process I skimmed over the wording of OP and the reblog chain, which is fully my own fault.
COVID was not a hoax.
I watched my brother, a nursing assistant, work ridiculously long hours and wear extra PPE and watch patients suffer and die because even though he didn't work in a COVID unit, patients would still come in and test positive for COVID.
I have had multiple friends - people I know IRL, not just online - test positive for COVID, spend weeks recovering, and told me "HOLY FUCK YOU DO NOT WANT THIS VIRUS IT SUCKS."
I had a dear close friend whose mother in law refused to get vaccinated, got COVID, and died less than a week before my friend's wedding.
I really am sorry if that reblog gave you the impression I think it was a hoax, because that is not my opinion or lived experience at all. I do wish I'd kept better journals, and I do feel gaslight by the media and government, but that's only in the case of them telling us "COVID is over and you can go back to normal", but that is the only way I agree with that post.
Thank you for asking and prompting me to re-assess something I've reblogged. I genuinely appreciate it.

really pisses me off when people frame catching covid as an individual moral failure
the first time i got it from my dad who was wearing a cloth mask and got it while getting a haircut the second time was either from some point where i couldnât wear a mask (post surgery when i was literally unconscious and had no one to advocate for me or dentist for an infected tooth) or my mother bringing it home from work
you cannot always control other peopleâs spread. yes wear a good mask yes try to keep your air clean with purifiers etc if you can but like. it is not a moral failure to get sick in a society that has little to no institutional mitigations for preventing illness.
#i hate twitter for this. glad the people you live with listen to you and you donât have a dental infection that could have gone septic#also the n95 elitism#glad you can afford n95s and the head straps donât give you migraine like headaches and/or sensory issues#jules speaks#coronavirus blogging#cranky.

Covid hasn't entirely gone away
Everyone has different areas of interest and concerns. It is important for me to write about the things that matter that I am passionate about but also have concerns about. I hope there will be an audience who will resonate with my writing, and who will continue to support.
The warm weather
The warm weather has reduced the spread of the virus, which means we've been able to go about our lives with relative ease. Going into the winter months, Covid is still a reality, and it hasn't entirely gone away.
There is a new strain
There is a new strain, therefore it is important to continue practicing good hygiene habits such as washing hands regularly, wearing a mask indoors and crowded spaces and maintaining social distance wherever possible.
We also need to be mindful
We also need to be mindful of our actions and how they may impact others, particularly for those who are more vulnerable. This can be a difficult time, but it is important to continue to follow guidelines set out by health authorities, because those haven't changed, to keep ourselves and those around us safe.
Here are some key things you can continue to do to protect yourself and others from Covid:
Wear a mask in indoor public spaces, particularly if you are in an area with high transmission rates or with people who are not in your immediate household;
Practice social distancing by keeping at least six feet of distance from others;
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitiser when it is not available;
Avoid large gatherings or crowded spaces, especially if you are in a high-risk group or have not been vaccinated;
Stay home if you are feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19. Our collective efforts can make a big difference in slowing the spread of the virus.
It's important to remember that we're all in this together. By taking care of ourselves and each other, we can help to slow the spread of the virus and work towards a brighter future, with less risk to health.
It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the pandemic going into the winter months. Do you still mask up in public spaces, do you worry about the virus and/or do you still practice social distancing?

Heads Up to All
Please be advised that, through the agency of a home coronavirus test taken just this morning, I have tested POSITIVE for the coronavirus. This after not feeling well the past two days, though managing to continue working.
Be assured, though, according to a local Urgent Care Clinic doctor I discussed this with just this morning, that such is likely a mild case and is treatable with Vicks DayQuil and increased hydration as well as staying in over the next five days.
I'll endeavour to continue my presence in this space with the added time the coronaviral condition has given me at home. As well, your continued and continuing support of me and this blog will be welcome and appreciated.

Rona's Unwelcome Return
Dr. Jill Biden the First Lady of the United States has COVID again. It seems like the âRonaâ is making another appearance with some new strains of the virus. I know of others who are unfortunately getting it again or for the first time. No one wants the pandemic thing again so taking the necessary precautions is the order of the day. Vaccine boosters and masks when needed along with properâŚ

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day.
Welcome to Throwback Thursday. On this page, Throwback Thursday is about memories triggered by words. So, if I was to say the word EDUCATION, what memory immediately come to mind?
I was a woeful student. Struggled to concentrate. I got one âAâ level, I think. I canât remember, itâs so bloody long ago! I donât have a degree because I didnât go to university. I donât have any formal teaching training. In short, I am a dunce. An uneducated pleb. Formal education missed me.
I was too busy with my nose in Black Echoes, Blues & Soul, Black Music & Jazz Review, Melody Maker, Sounds and New Musical Express. Not really academic writing and the subjects werenât always interesting (never meet your heroes) but, with every, grubby page I was absorbing information like a sponge.
So, the day I joined Black Echoes (1981), I knew about artists, studios, producers, guitarists, re-mixers, songwriters etc. and I was able to interview anyone about their life. I was a nerd! In a way, my own mad, self-taught education has got me most of my important jobs.
Prepping and teaching involves research and I love it. I really enjoy acquiring and sharing knowledge. Whoâd a thunk it? I appreciate education now. The other day, I did an online course on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, I did a 20-question multiple-choice test and I got 100%. That felt good! Education has come to me late in life.
So, on this Throwback Thursday, what memory does the word EDUCATION bring back?
Yesterday, as you know, there was quite persistent, cold rain. Did the white boy still go out in his shorts? Of course, he did! Everyone in Harlesden just looked at me like I was mad. (Not wrong, are they?) I had to go to Blue Mountain to pick up some Noni Juice (Google it!) for The Trouble. Much better for her than all that pharmaceutical poison!
Have a throbbing and thrusting Thursday (with hopefully a few thrills through your thoroughfare?) Â I love you all.

Award-winning dietitian Lavleen Kaur shares key-tips to boost immunity
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, many of us are increasingly worried about contracting the virus. A common question is whether boosting our immunity can help fight it. The answer is a resounding yes! Our immune system is our bodyâs defense against diseases, and although there is no proven cure for the virus yet, a healthy immune system can effectively combat it even after exposure.
