Bats being an especially dangerous animal in transmitting diseases is a myth by the way. The study this is based on had poor methodology in picking what animals to test for viruses, and there is no increase in sickness where bats roost! And bat scientists get vaccines against rabies but don’t have an increase in other diseases either. Yes bats can have rabies, but not at a higher rate than other wild animals, which you shouldn’t bother anyway! And bats don’t really try to bite humans unless you actively try to hold and trap them
i need to track down where I read it, book or study, but even Covid 19 wasn’t directly transferred from bats! Most likely a different, perhaps domestic, animal was infected by bats and then passed it on to humans. Bats in the area it originated do have corona viruses, but so far none were tested that had a strain matching Covid 19 as a potential origin point. AND! Healthy bats generally have a good enough immune system to contain most viruses of this kind, and a lot of bats that are sick stay in the roost

Highlights • Long-COVID is heterogeneous in its symptoms, severity, and illness duration. • There was no association between long-COVID and cognitive performance. • Cognitive symptoms may represent functional cognitive disorders. • Long-COVID had lower mean diffusivity on diffusion imaging than normal recovery. • Diffusion imaging differences may suggest gliosis as a mechanism of long-COVID.
To be clear: There was no cognitive difference between people post infection. I can see some people misunderstanding what this says. It says there is some form of brain damage from covid across the board, even if you don't have long covid symptoms or diagnosis.
Abstract
Background
The pathophysiology of protracted symptoms after COVID-19 is unclear. This study aimed to determine if long-COVID is associated with differences in baseline characteristics, markers of white matter diffusivity in the brain, and lower scores on objective cognitive testing.
Methods
Individuals who experienced COVID-19 symptoms for more than 60 days post-infection (long-COVID) (n = 56) were compared to individuals who recovered from COVID-19 within 60 days of infection (normal recovery) (n = 35). Information regarding physical and mental health, and COVID-19 illness was collected. The National Institute of Health Toolbox Cognition Battery was administered. Participants underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Tract-based spatial statistics were used to perform a whole-brain voxel-wise analysis on standard DTI metrics (fractional anisotropy, axial diffusivity, mean diffusivity, radial diffusivity), controlling for age and sex. NIH Toolbox Age-Adjusted Fluid Cognition Scores were used to compare long-COVID and normal recovery groups, covarying for Age-Adjusted Crystallized Cognition Scores and years of education. False discovery rate correction was applied for multiple comparisons.
Results
There were no significant differences in age, sex, or history of neurovascular risk factors between the groups. The long-COVID group had significantly (p < 0.05) lower mean diffusivity than the normal recovery group across multiple white matter regions, including the internal capsule, anterior and superior corona radiata, corpus callosum, superior fronto-occiptal fasciculus, and posterior thalamic radiation. However, the effect sizes of these differences were small (all <|0.3|) and no significant differences were found for the other DTI metrics. Fluid cognition composite scores did not differ significantly between the long-COVID and normal recovery groups (p > 0.05).
Conclusions
Differences in diffusivity between long-COVID and normal recovery groups were found on only one DTI metric. This could represent subtle areas of pathology such as gliosis or edema, but the small effect sizes and non-specific nature of the diffusion indices make pathological inference difficult. Although long-COVID patients reported many neuropsychiatric symptoms, significant differences in objective cognitive performance were not found.

H5N1: What to know before fear spreads
What is H5N1?
H5N1 is a 1996 strain of the Spanish or Avian Flu first detected in Chinese birds before spreading globally across various avian species. H5N1 is similar to H1N1, but spreads slower and has a much higher mortality rate.
H5N1 may also be referred to as Influenza A. The American Association of Bovine Practitioners has seen fit to rename H5N1 to Bovine Influenza A Virus, or BIAV, and are encouraging others to use the same terminology.
I would not be surprised if the colloquial name among the public becomes Bovine Flu or American Flu in the coming months, and may be referred to as the Chinese Flu by the same folks who took the spark of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic as an excuse to be publicly racist to East Asian people without social repercussions.
BIAV is a virus, meaning that it is a (probably) non-living packet of self-replicating infectious material with a high rate of mutation. BIAV is structured similarly to SARS-CoV-2, having a packet of infectious material encased in a spherical shell with a corona, or crown, of proteins that can latch to living cells to inject RNA.

What is the history of BIAV?
In 1996 and 1997, an outbreak of BIAV occurred among poultry and infected 18 people in Hong Kong, 6 of which died. This seemingly isolated incident then infected ~860 people with a >50% death rate.
At the time, BIAV was known as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, or HPAI, and killed nearly 100% of chickens within a 48 hour period.
From 2003 to 2005, continual outbreaks occurred in China and other East Asian countries, before spreading to Cambodia, the Netherlands, Thailand, and Vietnam.
From 2014 to 2016, it began being detected in American fowl, as well as mutating the H5N6 (lethal in birds, no human to human transmission) and H5N8 (largely spread through turkeys, ducks had immunity) viruses.
BIAV has since evolved into a clade known as 2.3.4.4b, and was first detected in 2021 in wild American birds. This then caused outbreaks in 2022 among wild and domesticated birds (such as chickens) alike, but was largely being overshadowed by the pressing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic at the time.
From 2022 to 2023, it was observed to be spreading among various mammals, including humans. Now, in 2024, we're having the most concerning rapid outbreak of BIAV since 2003.
BIAV is known to spread from mammal to mammal, particularly between cows and humans. BIAV may also be spread from cow to cow (highly likely, but not confirmed - this is likely the reason the virus has spread to Idaho from Texan cattle), and is known to be lethal to domestic cats and birds within 48 hours.
How does BIAV spread?
BIAV spreads through fomites - direct contact with infected animals or infected surfaces and then touching parts of your face or other orifices - as well as through airborne particulates, which may be inhaled and enter the sinuses and lungs.
BIAV is known to spread through:
Asymptomatic Ducks, geese, swans, various shorebirds
Symptomatic, may be lethal Foxes, bears, seals, sea lions, polar bears, domestic cats, dogs, minks, goats, cows, (potentially human to human, but unconfirmed - there have only been 8 potential human to human cases in 2024).
How can I protect against BIAV?
As BIAV is a type of Influenza A, existing protocols should do fine.
Current recommendations are to wash your hands vigorously after interacting with birds (I would also recommend doing this with mammals), avoid touching your face or other open orifices, and wear N95 masks.
Avoid sick or dead animals entirely - I would also recommend reporting them to your local Animal Control or veterinary centre and warning them about the infection risk. People who work with animals are recommended to also wear full PPE such as N95 masks, eye protection, gloves, and partake in vigorous hand washing.
If you suspect you've caught BIAV, seek medical attention immediately. Existing medications such as oseltamivir phosphate, zanamivir, peramivir, and baloxavir marboxil can reduce BIAV's ability to replicate.
Standard flu shots will not protect against BIAV. Remember - symptoms of BIAV may not manifest for between 2 to 8 days, and potentially infected people should be monitored for at least 10 days.
How far has BIAV spread?
BIAV is currently a global virus, though the current infection location of note is the United States.

Should I be afraid?
You needn't be afraid, just prepared. BIAV has a concerningly high lethality, but this ironically culls its spread somewhat.
In the event human to human transmission of BIAV is confirmed, this will likely mainly affect marginalized communities, poor people, and homeless people, who are likely to have less access to medical care, and a higher likelihood of working in jobs that require frequent close human contact, such as fast food or retail jobs.
Given the response to SARS-CoV-2, corporations - and probably the government - may shove a proper response under the rug and refuse to participate in a full quarantine, which may leave people forced to go to work in dangerous conditions.
If this does spread into an epidemic or pandemic, given our extensive knowledge about Influenza, and the US having a backup vaccine for a prior strain of H5N1, a vaccine should be able to be developed relatively quickly and would hopefully be deployed freely without charge - we won't have to worry about a situation like The Stand.
Wash your hands, keep clean, avoid large social gatherings where possible, wear an N95 mask if you can afford them (Remember: Cloth masks are the least protective, but are better than nothing. If you can't afford N95 masks, I recommend wearing a well-fitted cloth mask with a disposable face mask over it to prevent pneumonia from moisture buildup in the disposable mask), support the disabled, poor, and homeless, and stay educated.
We can do better this time.

Aperçu of the week
“All we have to do is call our opponent a communist or a socialist or someone who will destroy our country.”
(Donald Trump. We'll see about that...)
Bad News of the Week
Since the end of the coronavirus pandemic - although there hasn't actually been one - I've been waiting for its successor in a slightly anxious mood. Another rapidly infecting virus that spreads worldwide, is potentially deadly and, above all, restricts all our lives again. Now it's here: Mpox. For the first time since Corona, the WHO (World Health Organization of the United Nations) has declared the highest alert level, a “public health emergency of international concern”. Because of the virus that was previously called “Monkey Pox”. Discovered in Congo at the end of 2023, it has now also broken out in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya.
The initial figures spoke of 14,000 suspected cases. Based on the usual 50% rate and the reported 500 deaths, this means that one in twelve people who become infected will die. That's a lot. So it's certainly a virus that should be taken seriously. One day later, it was reported that the first case in Europe had emerged in Sweden. Then the first three in Asia in Pakistan. It's the usual pattern: on the one hand, every infectious disease spreads faster and more uncontrollably in times of international travel. On the other hand, specific cases are only discovered when they are specifically sought or tested for. So the numbers will now quickly go through the roof. Because the spread is already more advanced than we know.
What will happen now? What will the states do? How will society react this time? And above all: what have we learned? There is a lot of talk in Germany about the need to come to terms with everything that has happened around COVID. Also to learn from the mistakes. There is a lot of need for clarification - for example with regard to the procurement of masks, the closure of schools, compulsory vaccination, curfews and unequal treatment in the retail sector. And what has happened since (drum roll please!): Nothing. What applies to politics also applies in private life. Some friends turned out to be conspiracy theorists, others were law and order hardliners, most were simply irritated and unsettled. There were even rifts right through families. Rifts that still exist.
And now we could all be facing the same situation, just as ill-prepared. And if Mpox doesn't develop into a pandemic, perhaps swine fever will spread to humans. Or bird flu. Or something else entirely, be it from the South American jungle or from the secret laboratory of some deep state. Or a revenant from the past spreads again - cholera still exists after all and first cases of polio are reported from Gaza. No, I'm not panicking. But I do have one or two worries. After all, humanity has shown itself more than once to be incapable of learning from the past. I would love to be wrong about that.
Good News of the Week
Venezuela is not giving up. It is wonderful to see how the people are fighting for democracy, no longer wanting to put up with the corruption of their “elites” and finally wanting to have a perspective worth living in. Just under a month ago, elections were held in the Latin American country, which could actually live in prosperity and peace but is suffering from dramatic economic decline, inflation and poverty since years. Or as investigative journalist Sebastiana Barráez says in the news magazine Der Spiegel: “Maduro has couped!”
Initially, the state electoral authority declared President Nicolás Maduro Moro, who has been clinging to power since 2013, the winner without providing any evidence - as is actually required by the constitution. The opposition has now had access to more than 80 percent of the printed protocols of the individual polling stations and has made them public. According to these, their candidate Edmundo González won with around 67 percent of the vote - compared to 30 percent for the incumbent head of government. So did Maduro commit electoral fraud? It looks like it.
The United Nations and the Carter Center had sent election observers to Venezuela. They have now criticized the election authority's actions and declared that the official result was not achieved democratically. The panel of experts speaks of an “unprecedented process in recent electoral history”. No wonder that most Latin American countries as well as the USA and Europe did not recognize the “official result”. And Maduro? He doesn't give a damn. The despot has further intensified the repression against the population with the help of the military, the National Guard and other state organs loyal to him. According to the independent rights organization Foro Penal, over 2,000 people have been arrested since the election. These include opposition politicians. And journalists. That speaks a clear language.
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the US government has now offered Maduro and close associates of the regime an amnesty if they relinquish power. I wish the Venezuelans would keep up the pressure. And the international stage too. Until Madura and his clan really abdicate. Because then the country, which has already been abandoned by 20% of its population in recent years, could return to better times. In a survey conducted by the Gallup polling institute in December 2012, the country's inhabitants were among the happiest people on earth. It would be nice if this vague memory could become reality again.
Personal happy moment of the week
“Your application for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) has been approved. You are now authorized to travel to Canada by air.” Nothing more to add here. Taking off this sunday. Boy am I excited...
I couldn't care less...
...about the discussion that Germany “only” came 10th in the medal table at the Summer Olympics in Paris - behind hosts France and Great Britain, even though their populations are smaller. “What does it take for more medals?” asks the Tagesschau news channel. That is of little interest to me. Much more important is the charisma of athletes as figures of identification for a nation, the role model function for children, the motivation to surpass oneself. After all, it's not for nothing that the Olympic motto is “Taking part is everything”. In that sense, Eddie the Eagle really did fly.
It's fine with me...
...that the Democrats' party conference is now turning into a coronation mass. Because the most important decisions have been made: Presidential candidate and his (better in this case “her”) running mate. Normally, I would now say that political program content should not be completely secondary. But I don't care about that at the moment. The main thing is momentum. The main thing is optimism. The main thing is not to go back. The main thing is that Donald Jessica Trump doesn't triumph in November. Harris Walz!
As I write this...
...we're trying to catch a mouse. Apparently it was raining too hard outside and it wanted to get out into the dry. Now she's hiding behind a bookshelf and is afraid of us - even though we want to rescue her and set her free. Update: we've got her and she's fine. Second update: there seems to be another one...
Post Scriptum
It's good when someone doesn't look away but points. Even if it's about Israel committing an injustice. After all, you are then almost reflexively vilified as an Anti-Semite. In this respect, I am pleased that the European Union is showing more and more backbone in this regard. In this case, I am not referring to the maltreated Gaza Strip, but to the West Bank, where the Palestinian population is suffering more and more from brutal attacks by militant Israeli settlers - who can be sure of the backing of Benjamin Netanyahu's increasingly right-wing extremist government.
Once again, there have been attacks by extremist Israeli settlers on the population of the West Bank. And now EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has had enough. He will “present a proposal for EU sanctions against the supporters of the violent settlers, including some members of the Israeli government”. Including the government! That's a bombshell. I very much hope that he finds the necessary support for this. Because this massive problem is currently all too easily overlooked in the great shadow of Gaza.

Considering how often I urge people to please please please desinfect their shoes to save amphibians from Bsal, I forget to do it very frequently. So I just decided to give myself a little weekly reminder...
Just to explain: for the past 10 years a fungi named bsal has been spreading in central europe. It attacks and eats itself into the skin of amphibians. Many of them can deal with it, but some newts, like the fire-salamander, have a near 100% mortality rate once infected! The only way they can survive is if they are found and brought to a zoo/university etc that can take them in and treat them. Sick amnimals look like this:
Tumblr media
Can you see the places where it is being eaten alive?
The main problem is that the fungi is tiny and cannot be seen, but survives for months even without a host. That means that humans unknowingly spread this fungi around just by walking! Most amphibians more or less stay in their own area and wouldn't have been able to spread the disease much, but humans have brought it from place to place. Some forests actually have disinfect-stations for cars by now, but it is mostly spread through walking, which can be stopped by disinfecting your shoes (best with 70% alcohol).
After Corona, many of us have disinfectants not only in their home but also their cars, purse, etc. So please, take the time to participate and to spread awareness <3

Research - Life After Covid
What is Covid?
Corona virus disease 2019 pandemic was originated from Wuhan city, Hubei Province, China in December 2019. The outbreak of Covid 19 pandemic has mostly affected the human health and has severely been observed as a reason for increased death cases all over the globe.
Covid 19 has affected everyday life of humans and has hindered the worldwide economy. This pandemic also impacted a social life of people all over the world. Many countries locked their facilities, amenities, educational institutions, industrial sectors, daily usage marketplaces and others, to prevent the spread of this infections.
A negative point of the virus is that emotional well-being is avoided, such as physical interactions (hugging, kissing) socializing activities (dinner with friends) are canceled.
People are also losing jobs in the business sector at an alarming rate.
However, there are also positive points such as people could spend more time bonding with their families. Even the global movement told people about the social guidelines and the special vaccine. Hygiene and sanitation were given much attention. Public health became scruntized as well. Many businesses embraced remote working and digitalization.
Some suggest that the Corona virus is like a dress rehearsal for the much bigger climate crisis to come. Moving towards a zero-carbon economic will involve many of the changes. For example, if people are working at home, then this suggests that a great deal of office space in the center of cities will no longer be needed. What happens to city centers which are crowded? What sort of transport might we need if the nine-to-five commute is no longer a routine? What sort of housing, schooling and care might help people work successfully from home, or local workspaces? So, this is the little opportunity that the virus has given us.

Drug Discovery Outsourcing Market Size & Demand by 2033
Tumblr media
Between 2023 and 2033, the Global Drug Discovery Outsourcing Industry is projected to grow at a consistent compound annual growth rate of 7.2%. The market, which is projected to be valued at US$ 3.75 billion in 2023, is expected to surpass a market share of US$ 7.52 billion by 2033.Expanding the pharmaceutical industry and the higher penetration of digital technology and AI integration are transforming the market.
Furthermore, the research and development procedure and the expansion of drug discovery vendors in emerging economies like China and India fuel the market growth.A massive portion of the research around small and large drug molecules (80%) is outsourced through pharma giants. This is due to the cheaper costs, easy workflow, increased workforce, and enhanced quality.
The transformed drug industry with synergistic drugs and advanced anti-infection drugs is also shaping the market dynamics. At the same time, virus outbreaks such as Ebola and Coronavirus are increasing the market’s consumer base.Government policies integrate their medical policies, allowing pharma giants to collaborate and build the advanced drug discovery space.
Thus, the demand for outsourced drug delivery services is in high demand. The surge in respiratory patients with issues like tuberculosis, bronchitis, etc., also consumes a big chunk of the market. These conditions have increased lately due to the post-corona impacts.

📰 New wave of Covid virus in Norway fills up vaccination centers 📆 November 22, 2023
“For the vast majority, it really doesn’t matter anymore if you’re sick with the flu or Covid,” Dr Ingebjørn Bleidvin, chief medical officer in Hadsel, Northern Norway, told state broadcaster NRK on Wednesday. “Most people can drop testing and save some money.”
The state health ministry officially changed the status of the Covid virus earlier this week, on the grounds it no longer is especially dangerous to the public. Many falling ill still seem to want to know whether they’ve been hit by Covid, even by another bout of the virus. “Sales of Corona tests are seven times higher than they were during the autumn holidays” in late September and early October, Silje Ensrud of the pharmacy chain Apotek 1 told NRK. “We haven’t sold so many testing kits since February 2022.”
Some pharmacies in Northern Norway, where there have been outbreaks of the virus, have seen their stocks almost depleted. Testing kits were once handed out for free by state and local health care agencies, but now they can cost as much as NOK 120 (around USD 12).
Only those with weak immune systems or those undergoing cancer treatments are still advised to get tested, to determine exactly which respiratory ailment they may have. State health officials are no longer collecting data or publishing new statistics on Corona cases, and postive test results aren’t recorded.
Officials are keen, however, to get all Norwegians age 65 and over vaccinated against new variants of the virus, along with those who have chronic diseases. Vaccination rates were also sluggish earlier this fall, and public health institute FHI was concerned that too few were getting their booster shots. A sharp rise in infection has since sent many flocking to vaccination centers, where booster shots remain free of charge.
Oslo’s large vaccination center in the capital’s Nydalen district was among those suddenly facing such long lines that it suspended its “drop-in” service and is currently requiring appointments. The first available slots were at least a week away.

About death in the middle of the Corona outbreak according to Denny Ja 26
In the midst of the plague of Corona that is engulfing this world, we often hear about cases of death caused by this virus. However, is there an interesting facts that we might not know yet? In this article, we will reveal some interesting facts about death in the middle of the Corona outbreak in the view of Denny JA 26.    The view of Denny JA 26, an expert who is an expert in the social and political fields, gives an interesting picture of death in the middle of the Corona outbreak. One interesting fact is that the mortality rate due to this virus can be influenced by age. According to Denny JA 26, elderly people have a higher risk of death compared to younger people. This is because the immune system of older people is usually weaker, making it difficult for them to fight the corona virus infection.    In addition, Denny Ja 26 also revealed that comorbities or comorbidity can increase the risk of death from the Corona virus. For example, if someone suffers from heart disease, diabetes, or other respiratory disorders, they have a higher risk to experience serious complications due to this virus. Therefore, it is important for all of us to maintain a healthy body and have a healthy lifestyle in order to reduce the risk of death caused by this plague.    In addition to the age and accompanying disease factors, Denny Ja 26 also highlighted the importance of environmental factors in the spread of the corona virus and related deaths. According to him, areas with high levels of air pollution can worsen the symptoms and complications caused by this virus. Air pollution can cause respiratory problems and weaken the immune system, thereby increasing the risk of death. Therefore, it is important for the government and the community to work together in reducing air pollution to protect our health.    In addition to these factors, Denny Ja 26 also highlighted the importance of access to adequate health services in facing the Corona outbreak. According to him, access to adequate health facilities can accelerate the diagnosis, care, and treatment needed. With easy and fast access, the risk of death can be reduced because the patient can immediately get the right treatment. Therefore, it is important for the government and the community to work together in ensuring that everyone has fair and adequate access to health services.    In Denny Ja 26’s view, it is important for all of us to maintain a healthy body and remain aware of the Corona virus. Denny Ja 26 stressed the importance of maintaining hand cleanliness, using masks, and maintaining social distance as an effective prevention step. By taking these steps, we can protect ourselves and those around us from the risk of transmission of the corona virus.    Along with efforts to prevent and overcome, Denny Ja 26 also reminded us to remain calm and not panic. According to him, panic will only worsen the situation and disturb the peace of mind needed in the face of this outbreak. Therefore, it is important for us to continue to follow valid information and follow the steps recommended by the authorized health authority.    In conclusion, death in the midst of the Corona outbreak is indeed a frightening fact.

2023 / 21
Aperçu of the Week:
"WOW, they are going to ARREST ME".
(Donald Trump, New York City Court, Case No. 71543-23)
Bad News of the Week:
As expected, U.S. Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. At least since his strong re-election last year, the relatively young politician (44 years old) is considered a promising contender and was already in second place in the polls after Donald Trump and ahead of Joe Biden before his official announcement.
Unfortunately, his platform is anything but young: the "Trump with a brain" is pursuing a distinctly right-wing agenda, has loosened gun rights, threatened minorities and cut social programs. But above all, he has dedicated himself to fighting "wokeness" as a preserver of the good old primal American canon of values. He, for example, prohibits the discussion of gender diversity in schools.
Unfortunately, and for Europeans hardly comprehensible, he is not taking an outsider's position, but riding on a general trend. For example, when Budweiser launched a campaign for Bud light featuring transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, conservatives successfully called for a boycott of the brand. Example: In a widely circulated video, Kid Rock shot at crates of the brand's beer with a machine gun and was celebrated for it. And just last week, Target took off the shelves a rainbow-colored product line it had introduced for Pride month in June - because employees were threatened by angry customers.
Increasingly, a culture war is emerging. And whether it's with Donald "Grab them by the pussy" Trump or his echo Ron "Don't say gay" DeSantis, Republicans will position themselves as the keepers of the true U.S. spirit. Anything that has even a hint of social, equality, inclusion, diversity or liberalism will be branded as an attack on the national self-image. And this message will resonate with many: the Republican voter base will go to the ballot box rallied to save their America.
This will not be the case with the Democrats, however. For their establishment has failed to build a successor to Joe Biden. Out of misplaced respect for the incumbent, who is traditionally granted automatic re-appointment. Even as his approval ratings continue to crumble. Not because of his policies, but because of his age. And because of a lack of imagination.
All of the alternatives currently mentioned by the media - from Kamala Harris to Amy Klobuchar to Pete Buttigieg - have unfortunately already proven that they cannot mobilize significantly. And all of them are hiding. Only when Biden becomes seriously ill or shows obvious signs of age-related failure will they be seen. With no agenda of their own, no charisma, no shadow cabinet. Just not being a Trump or DeSantis won't be enough this time. Especially not if you yourself are not an Alpha Male. Because US society is apparently not yet ready for a woman or a homosexual. And the legacy of Barack Obama is not strong enough.
Good News of the Week:
"Why Generation Z wants to work differently - and is now infecting everyone". That's the headline in leading political magazine Der Spiegel this week. Or in other words: work-life balance is currently a big topic. There is a shortage of skilled workers on the labor market. And that doesn't just mean the usual suspects like geriatric nurses and teachers or IT specialists. But everyone. The topics are overflowing: Should the retirement age be pushed back? How can Germany become attractive for international work nomads? How about a four-day week for everyone? Or a so-called "unconditional basic income"?
The primary issue here is not whether or in which industry one would like to work, but above all how. During the Corona pandemic, many employers and employees got to know - and in many cases appreciate - home office for the first time. I could pass for a trendsetter in this regard. For 20 years, I've worked primarily from home. And in parallel, I also have the advantages of "trust-based working hours". No one is interested in exactly when I do what work. The main thing is that I do my job. It's a give and take. And depends on personality. While some struggled with getting out of bed or putting the equally pending housework on the back burner, I have to be more careful that work doesn't become too dominant. Responsibility is the magic word - for work as part of one's personal life.
Balance is the key word in work-life balance. It's not about working less, if possible with full pay compensation. It's about remaining the master of your own personal schedule. Having to take time off for a doctor's appointment? Missing the kindergarten event? Sitting in the office in perfect weather even though the previous weekend day was rainy? Just doesn't make sense. The relationship between employer and employee should be symbiotic. After all, both have the same interest: that the work gets done. Then both sides are doing well. Without the control mania of a time clock, but with mutual trust. I can recommend this with a clear conscience.
Personal happy moment of the week:
Three days of weekend and no work. Good weather and children out of town. Sleeping in and no obligations. Going on trips and eating well. Work-life-balance... ;-)
I couldn't care less...
...for the bashing of the climate alarmists from the "Last Generation". Last week they were raided by the police - the official reason: suspicion of a criminal organization. Excuse me? Civil disobedience is for me a high good to kick the system (pardon) in the ass. Such disproportionate action by the state, instead of addressing the real problem, backfires, at least for me. Robin Hood has always been more likeable than the Sheriff of Nottingham.
As I write this...
...the runoff election for the post of president is underway in Turkey. Recep Erdogan has held power for 20 years. And for this year's challenger from an opposition party alliance, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, things were actually looking good. Not anymore: either he loses and autocrat Erdogan remains in power. Or he wins and has to keep countless election promises to the right-wing electorate, whose candidate fell out in the regular election. And with this course - played out, for example, on the backs of Syrian refugees and the Kurdish minority - he moves just as far away from a liberal, democratic ideal as Erdogan. Therefore, many voters will prefer the original. And nothing will change, the historic opportunity will be lost.
Update: now it's whitmonday. And Erdogan is reelected. And celebrated. Ooph...
Post Scriptum
FC Bayern has become the German soccer champion. The eleventh time in a row - so nothing new. However, like many others, the decision was actually made only the day before yesterday on the last match day, literally at the last minute. What is considered a catastrophe in Munich, I actually think is good: after all, (open) competition is part of sports. See the German ice hockey team, which yesterday won a medal at the World Championship again after 70 years. And which (in contrast to FC Bayern) nobody had on their mind. I couldn't lose anyway, because the opponent and winner was Canada - my second home.

Exploring the Depths: Death in the Corona Virus Era According to Denny Ja 26
In the Pandemic era caused by the Corona virus, we have all witnessed the big impact that has occurred throughout the world. One of the many issues that are of concern is the mortality rate caused by this virus. In this case, Denny JA 26, an expert in data analysis and famous scientists, gave an interesting view of death in the Corona virus era.    In an exclusive interview with Denny JA 26, he explained that to understand death in the Corona virus, we need to look deeper. “Death is not just a statistical number, but also a reflection of our lives that are affected by this pandemic,” he explained.    Denny JA 26 explained that there were several factors that contributed to the death of the Corona virus. Pertamatama, the age factor plays an important role. He revealed that older people have a higher risk to experience serious complications due to corona virus infections. “This is because their immune system tends to weaken as we get older,” he added.    In addition to the age factor, the previous health condition is also an important factor that affects the mortality rate. Denny Ja 26 explains that people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and paruparu have a higher risk of complications due to the corona virus. “This is because the Corona virus can attack organs that are already weak due to other diseases,” he said.    Furthermore, Denny Ja 26 highlights the importance of lifestyle factors in increasing or reducing the risk of death from the corona virus. “Having a healthy lifestyle, such as eating nutritious food, exercising, and maintaining personal hygiene, can help improve our immune system,” he explained. He also stressed the importance of obeying the predetermined health protocol, such as wearing a mask, washing hands regularly, and maintaining social distance.    In the interview, Denny Ja 26 also shared his views on the psychological effects of death in the Corona virus. He realized that this pandemic had increased the level of anxiety and stress in the community. “Death caused by the Corona virus not only causes deep sorrow for families left behind, but also causes fear and worries among the wider community,” he said.    Denny Ja 26 gives some suggestions to overcome this psychological effect. First, he suggested to stay connected to the closest people, even though virtually. “Sharing feelings and conveying support to others can help reduce anxiety and loneliness,” said Denny Ja 26.    In addition, Denny Ja 26 also emphasized the importance of finding a source of reliable information and avoiding spreading false information or hoaks that can make mood worse. “Sticking to the facts and sources of information that can be trusted is the key in dealing with death in the Corona virus era,” he said.    At the end of the interview, Denny Ja 26 invited everyone to remain optimistic and try to see the positive side of this difficult situation. “Even though this pandemic has brought a lot of sadness and loss, we can also learn to respect life and be grateful for what we have,” he concluded.
