The Corner Hotel is a really special music venue. I think it's the perfect combination of highly respected and wholly unrespectable that gives it so much charm. It comes from a time when it was okay to have carpet in pubs because people were too well behaved to spill their drinks, and lived through the period where that behaviour changed slightly, and has come out on the other side, in all its dank glory. I should assert that this is not a bad thing.

The Corner is the exact place you want your favourite band to come and play. The band room is small, meaning that even from the back of the crowd, you're not more than 20 or so metres from the stage. I've had the good fortune of being able to gaze lovingly into several lead singers' eyes because of the sheer closeness.

The vibe here is good. The music is good. The people are good. You could go along on any old night, not be pissed off at being ripped off for drinks or entertainment, and be surrounded by a wholly enjoyable atmosphere. I am only 5 foot tall and I've stared at a guy's shoulder blades for half a set and it's remarkable how little that bothered me.
