Patting the space beside you gently, you tried your best to ignore the pride that tore at your throat, aching for you to curse him, scream at him. Anything except apologizing.

As he sat down, he was hesitant to touch you, knowing you weren’t one for much physical affection especially when you were angry. So you were the one to grab his large hands in yours, ignoring the feeling of wanting to smack him away, to throw things and slam the door in his face. All those feelings were there, but your body refused to act upon them. Instead, you pulled him into you to rest your forehead against his, feeling tears pooling at your own eyes.

“I’m sorry.” It came out choked. Not sarcastic, not petty, not confrontational. Honest and sincere. You meant those two words, and silently prayed that Rosi and your otherwise argumentative mind would accept them to be true as well. You were never good at arguments, always assuming the worst and shutting people out before they could do so to you. It was a defense mechanism you weren’t quite proud of, but it did a good job of protecting you in the past.

He freed a hand from your hold to cup your cheek softly, “No, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for upsetting you, Corethra.”

Rosi always had a way of turning the situation around on him, even when you were clearly in the wrong. This time you undoubtedly were, and you hated to accept it. But looking at his broken features, the way he was so desperate to console you and make up, you found yourself wanting to let him in. You wanted to apologize and make things right for the first time in your relationship. That was both a terrifying and humbling feeling. He made you want to admit when you’re wrong, to take his pain away, and to never hurt him again. No one has ever made you feel that way, he’s truly helped you grow as a person.

You leaned into his touch, feeling the bitterness and resentment slowly rolling off of you as he continued to caress you, staring at you with utmost adoration in his eyes. Overwhelmed by emotion, you couldn’t help but spill out, “I love you, Rosi. Please forgive me.”

Overwhelmed himself by you finally uttering those three words, he littered your tear-stained cheeks with soft kisses, his loving lips wiping every trace of your insecurities away, “I love you. He stared at you with brows raised, a bit shocked at your urgency but also entirely relieved that you wanted him to stay. You tugged at his hand like a child, and he couldn’t prevent the cheesy smile that spread across his face. With that, he sat beside you once again, accepting you graciously as you flailed yourself into his arms, cozying up together on the couch. His long fingers traced gentle circles along the skin of your lower back while you two shared passionate, apologetic kisses for the rest of the night.
