summary
The trust between Ladybug and Chat Noir is stretched to breaking point when a new butterfly holder emerges in the wake of Monarque's defeat. Chat Noir doesn't know who to trust until Chrysalis confronts him with a truth Ladybug had tried to bury: Monarque made the Wish—and she wants Chat Noir’s help to undo it.
excerpt
The extraordinary amount of cheese brought by Adrien disappeared surprisingly quickly, despite the fact that Marinette never caught anyone besides herself touching the plate of charcuterie. Adrien’s other offering, a plate of still-doughy pastries with strawberries painstakingly pressed into them (his first solo venture into recipes), remained mostly untouched, though Marinette took one bite just to see him smile. They spoke lightly of their summer adventures; Nino’s successful gig at Club Lagune and Alya’s trip to visit her extended family in Martinique. Marinette was enraptured with Adrien’s retelling of the Gorilla’s silent but successful prank war with Félix, but she’d sat too close to look at him directly; the goldenrod halo of his hair caught in the sun left her vision hazy around the edges. It was easier to watch his hands as they wove the tale; easier to keep her head down where things were clearer. And if Adrien wondered why she didn’t have any tales of her own to tell, he didn’t ask, just as she didn’t ask about his trip to London or the contractors that had started renovating his basement. Just move forward. The world didn’t end. Don’t dwell. Don’t ask.
chapter 3 of mine and @ladyofthenoodle 's fic is now up!

I know people make posts about "I think Tumblr is giving me a skewed idea of what Armored Core 6 is about" with all the shitposts about Walter and Ayre and the eroticism of mecha and transhumanism but you have to understand that the game is actually like that. You get far enough in and you get to have a simulated mecha duel with your telepathic girlfriend that is framed like a sex scene. There's no exaggeration.

yakou furio's character is so tragic to me. i wanna meme about how they used the fridged wife trope but other than that it's like. he lost his family and later all of his coworkers and just. existed alone for years.
looking at the state the submarine and especially his bedroom was in, with everything being a mess and all the cigarette butts in his bed, yakou was clearly depressed. he wouldn't even take on any interesting cases to fulfill his passion as a detective because he was so afraid of the peacekeepers. instead he just kept his head down. surviving but not actually living.
and then he finally gets some new detectives to work at his agency and the first thing he can do is fail to save most of them from dying horribly. but the five that yakou did manage to save latch onto him and he starts getting into a leader role! even if his new coworkers are all rowdy and get into trouble they still respect him as a leader and look up to him.
the detectives keep picking fights with the peacekeepers that yakou has been trying so hard to dodge. and usually the resolution is kind of messed up because the victims die but the detectives prove themselves capable of handling the peacekeepers! they're helping people! for the first time in a while, yakou comes toe to toe with peacekeepers willingly, to help his new friends. he realizes that he is able to stand up against amaterasu corp, with the help of the others.
but by the time he realizes this, the stage has already been set. the letter from yomi turned his grief into anger and a thirst for vengeance. although yomi gave him the information and opportunity, yakou was ultimately the one who chose to murder the man who murdered his wife.
yakou has already rebuilt his life after his wife's death. the detectives at his agency look up to him and he would do anything for them. it would never be the same as the life he had with his wife but yakou had the chance to turn over a new leaf with a new found family who cares about him.
but instead, yakou plans a murder. he needs to die, over and over, in order to access the man he wants to kill and he accepts it. he needs to trick two kids, who look up to him and who he cares for, into becoming his accomplices to the murder and he accepts it. in the wake of forcing his detectives to witness his murder, he needs leave them in a lab filled with peacekeepers who want to kill them and he accepts it.
and it's not that he doesn't care about his detectives. yuma and halara disobeyed his orders and assaulted several peacekeepers, and he was willing to be arrested himself before throwing his employees under the bus. yuma and fubuki were implicated in terrorism and yakou and the others solve the case for them, then prepare to fight an army of peacekeepers to protect yuma.
for his murder plan, yakou only needs desuhiko and fubuki's powers. but he brings halara and vivia along as well because they would be able to protect the two younger detectives and fight their way out of the lab after yakou dies. he enacts his plan on a day that yuma wasn't around because he won't be able to help fight peacekeepers, so it's better to just keep him out of this mess. he covers up his murder-suicide to protect his detective's feelings, but also because they would be implicated as his accomplices if his plan was revealed.
and yakou probably expected that the other detectives would be fine. if they'd left him behind to die, the other detectives probably would have been able to either fight their way out or hide out in the lab a bit longer and figured out a good plan to escape. if yakou had his way, he would have gotten his revenge and his detectives would have gone home grief-stricken, but unharmed and forever unaware of their roles in his death.
but yakou doesn't account for the fact that the other detectives would try to save his life. yuma doesn't run after the hitman and escape the peacekeepers, he stays behind to beg yomi to help yakou. fubuki uses up all her energy to rewind time to try to prevent yakou's death instead of helping the others escape the lab. halara, vivia, and desuhiko not only have to fight off peacekeepers, but they also have to carry yakou to a hiding spot to give first aid. and instead of calmly planning their next move, everyone is desperate to solve the case so there would be any chance of getting yakou to a hospital as quickly as possible.
one major theme of rain code is that despite tragedies that may have happened in the past, people can work together with those they care about to live a better life in the future. and yakou could have had that. his wife's death should have stayed in the past, and he should have continued to mentor the other detectives, solving mysteries together and enjoying each other's companies.
but yakou couldn't let the past stay in the past. he had every chance to not go through with his murder. he has new people he loves, but he manipulates them and puts them in danger in order to get back at the person who killed the last person he loved. his victory was a pyrrhic one. he got his revenge but in return, he destroyed himself and his detectives' trust in him. he enjoyed his revenge momentarily before dying and leaving his new family, who he used their love and trust for him to his advantage, to pick up the pieces.
yakou furio had lost everything in the past. but in trying to pursue it he destroyed everything he had in the present. that's the tragedy of his character to me.

Title: alis propriis volat (they fly with their own wings) Rating: T+ (may go up later) Pairing: V.IV Rusty/Raven | C4-621 Tags/CW: Alternative Universe - Canon Divergence, Complicated Relationships, Morally Ambiguous Characters, Implied/Reference Suicide, Implied/Referenced Indentured Servitude, Implied/Referenced Abuse, Implied/Referenced Self-Harm, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD, Medical Trauma, Mute Raven | C4-621, Identity Issues, Worldbuilding, Unreliable Narrator, Trust Issues, Implied/Referenced Sex, Panic Attacks Summary: “I’m not here to kill you, buddy.” Slowly, Rusty crouched down. “I’m here to capture you, before Arquebus does.” or; C4-621 manages to escape Institute City on his own after V.II Snail’s failed ambush, but with Handler Walter no longer in contact with him, and Balam essentially destroyed, C4-621’s only ally is the disembodied Ayre. Well, until the RLF swoop in, but that’s its own awkward can of worms. Current Chapter: 19

Oh god. Macaque may have made a big deal about closing their chapter and moving on, but if he got that and wukong appears to find someone else, mac would NOT be able to handle it
Yeah, exactly. Macaque made this attempt to push Wukong away, but that's not really what he wanted. A part of him is rationalizing that being apart from Wukong would be overall safer (which, fair), but he doesn't want to be without him. He just feels unimportant and unloved and forgotten and abandoned. And even though Wukong didn't do any abandoning, those feelings are still there for Macaque.
And Macaque just hates. The Great Companions. And Tripitaka. Primarily for being more important to Wukong than he himself was. And though Wukong said he wasn't making a choice, the fact that he killed Macaque just fed into those feelings of abandonment.
That's why Macaque says "I'll never be the most important thing to you." And he kind of breaks down there because he doesn't think he'll ever be the most important thing to Wukong.
But Wukong loves Macaque with his entire heart. He never stopped loving him and grieving for him. Wukong is so sentimental...he cannot help this. The moment an opportunity presented itself for him to be 💯 honest? He took it and bared his whole heart.
All that to say, if Wukong did find someone else (he wouldn't, he's too in love with Macaque), Macaque would not be able to handle that and he'd try and get Wukong's attention no matter what. He'd be petty and mean and immature about it. He wouldn't handle it with grace. And, depending on characterization, it could get worse but.
Idk. Macaque and Wukong's relationship is so specific in canon and especially so in this AU. And in this AU, Macaque and Wukong are so intertwined that..neither of them would be able to handle it if the other took interest in another. They're too possessive. They're too...in tune with each other. They know, deep down, that they belong together. But Macaque is scared and apprehensive for obvious reasons. He doesn't want to be hurt again and he knows there's too big of a chance of that happening.
But he also loves Wukong fiercely, and he showed that by wiping his tears and cradling his face and speaking honestly.
But yeah, even if they did mutually decide to go their separate ways....hmm they wouldn't. Wukong wouldn't accept that. And deep down, even if Macaque kept pushing Wukong away, he would want Wukong to keep reaching out to him. Just so he knows Wukong loves him and won't forget him.

If anyone else is having trouble with the Chapter 4 ENFORCER boss (I sure did) here is the setup I used to beat it, and optionally the Share Code if you are on Steam/PC. Reverse joint legs are good for avoiding its melee attacks, lightly season your missile and bullet spam with boost-kicks for best results

Not an actual oneshot but #8 for Candle in the Rain?
hehehehe I love that one! Thank youuuu <3333
For context, this fic is essentially Nibelheim except with two major factors: Jenova is really at the strings, and Zack (who has been elevated to best friend status) realizes this. The two play out their bloody battle just as they would—but ultimately, through the power of FRIENDSHIP and Zack’s unwavering determination, Jenova’s control is broken and the Planet is saved from certain doom.
#8 - Would you ever write a sequel or a second chapter to the oneshot? ~ Actually, yes I would! Production started wayyyy earlier in the year lmao, and I got about… hmm… 400 words in before brain gotta little muddy. I do hope to get back to it! <3 In short, what happens is that Zack wakes up in a hospital bed (I mean he got impaled pretty bad, mate), a tear-streaked Sephiroth is there beside him, and his actions in Nibelheim are forgiven bc of Cissnei, the champ, who did some investigation and discovered the extent of Jenova’s puppetry powers for those with her cells (in which she shares with the surviving members of the town). It doesn’t wash away Sephiroth’s horror though, and the rest of the chapter/story follows them simply hugging as Sephiroth’s profound apologies are each forgiven and assuaged by Zack <33

Chapter Three: Running On Empty
Betrayal is an ugly thing, no matter how it may manifest.
For Carlos, betrayal comes in the form of Evie deftly unclipping her purse strap and securing it to his makeshift collar. He’s vocal how he feels about this—going so far as to throw his head back and howl to drown her voice out. He is very uninterested in what she has to say about murder and how “even a puppy” doesn’t stand a chance against a jury. She’s only saying that because it’s Mal…
If it were anyone else, she would at least let him maul them.
What a double standard.
He huffs and collapses dramatically in the grass, exhausted from struggling against the stupid collar, and the stupid leash, and…
He’s just exhausted. And hungry, too.
“Okay, well, now that that’s over…” Mal says awkwardly, stepping from the tree line where she’d stopped to wait while Carlos threw his “tantrum” (Evie’s words, definitely not what happened)—
Carlos bares his teeth at her, but doesn’t lift his head.
“What’s all that?” asks Jay, trying to cut through the tension. He gestures to the bag Mal has slung over her shoulder—a beat-up purple messenger bag which looks full to bursting. “Hope it’s a picnic,” he adds, half-joking as he rubs his belly. “I’m starving.”
Carlos’ stomach rumbles audibly, as if in agreement, and Jay throws him a grin. “You too, ‘Los? Don’t worry, I’m sure we can find you—”
“Jay,” Evie sharply interjects, eyebrows raised in warning.
“…something you’ll like?” Jay finishes sheepishly.
Mal drops her bag on the grass a little ways in front of Carlos before taking position behind it. “No food,” she tells Jay simply, “unless, of course, you haven’t lost your taste for… lizard legs.” She smirks at his expression, leaning over to give him a shove. “Oh, come onnn… don’t go all ‘Auradon’ on me now, Jay. You’re breaking my heart.”
She laughs, and Jay laughs, and Evie clears her throat.
“Right, sorry,” says Mal with a flush to her cheeks. “I brought all the stuff—to change Carlos back, I mean. There’s just, um, one thing…”
Carlos starts to growl, but Evie shushes him, stroking his back.
“Look, it’s not a big deal, it’s just… the spell calls for moonlight.”
Carlos lets out a bark as he gets to his feet, staring pointedly at Mal, who raises her hands in surrender and quickly responds, “Okay, so it kind of is a big deal!” Carlos barks again. “Evil, of course I’m—”
Carlos throws his head back and starts to howl again, causing Jay to wince and throw a glance at Mal. “That’s some real Disney princess shit,” he comments dryly. “Seriously though, since when can you talk to animals?”
Rolling her eyes, Mal starts to brush him off, but Evie interjects—
“He has a point,” she says. “How long has this been happening?”
“I don’t know—since today?” Mal replies, a little exasperated. She averts her eyes, focusing on the meadow grass as she plucks a little yellow wildflower and starts to roll it between her thumb and index finger. “Anyway,” she mutters, “it’s not all animals… just Carlos.”
He growls menacingly at her, but she ignores him.
Even Evie doesn’t so much as give his leash a little tug before she’s answering thoughtfully, “It must be some kind of magical bond…”
Carlos barks a laugh—and a little more than that—which he’s sure Mal catches, much as she continues to ignore him. “I guess,” is all she says to Evie, flicking the thoroughly crushed flower in Jay’s direction before plucking another to destroy in the same way.
It’s quiet for a moment, just the sound of the birds and the breeze through the trees, the grasses whispering, a distant airplane—
So…” Jay breaks the silence, drawing everyone’s eyes to him. “We’re gonna sit around out here all day, or what?” He shrugs.
That starts Carlos barking again, yelling what only Mal can hear.
“I know!” she exclaims, throwing her hands up. “I said I was sorry! Yes, I did—I totally did, fucker, you just didn’t hear me,” she presses on, raising her voice to be heard over Carlos’ crescendo. “Oh, please, I did not plan this…” She pauses to listen, but she’s glowering. “No, of course you would think that, of course, but if you would just—no, you shut up—DE VIL, DAMN IT, I AM TRYING TO FUCKING—”
Carlos lunges, snapping his teeth—and he gets close, so close to biting down on Mal’s hand, having slowly lured her in over the course of their little argument—
He gets close, so close, but Evie betrays him—for a second time.
She yanks back on his leash with a reprimand of, “Carlos!”
Whipping around, he bites down on the leash and gives it a firm tug, right out of Evie’s grasp. He shoots her a dark look before he takes off running, leash held in his jaws. She’s going to need a new purse strap, because he’s not coming back, and as soon as he’s clear, he’s chewing through this stupid leather and leaving it out to rot—
Jay’s voice calls out behind him, yelling for him to, “Stop! Come back!” He’s crashing through the underbrush, dodging trees and leaping over logs—but no matter how fast or how determined…
He’s never catching Carlos.
Little legs be damned.
Thank you for reading! Reblogs are always appreciated. And feel free tosubscribe on AO3 if you want to be alerted when the next chapter comes out. Kudos and comments are lovely, as well! ♥

AC 6 keeps crashing on the last mission of chapter 3, so here's a pic of Barbarossa 2.0 in all its glory. I exchanged the SMG for a minigun and added some energy stuff with the plasma missiles and energy shotgun, plus new torso.
Tumblr media
I also made myself a custom emblem! It's nothing fancy compared to the stuff i've seen here but im happy with how it turned out
