Oooh this is so funny and heartwarming 😳
One Piece where everything’s the same except Cora doesn’t die but Law’s still determined to absolutely beat the shit out of Doflamingo anyway. Cut to post Dressrosa where Law gets a VERY frantic phone call from Cora who’s like what the actual FUCK I saw the newspaper this morning you went up against Doffy all by yourself?? You promised me we would do this together you little SHIT do you have any idea how fucking scared out of my MIND I was when I saw the headline and I thought something happened to you, Law I swear to god, and Law’s like yes Cora I went up against him by myself, like HELL I was going to let him lay a single finger on you. And Cora’s like THAT’S MY LINE!!! You’re MY kid and I should be the one protecting YOU!! And Law’s like what with your shitty devil fruit powers? What could you have done? You would have fallen on your ass and gotten hurt or shot or worse and I’d be too fucking worried about you to focus on anything else. And Cora’s like this conversation is NOT over but I’m so so glad you’re okay. And he starts crying and he’s like oh my GOD Law you know how insane Doffy is I could have lost you. And I wouldn’t have even known until after the fact. And Law goes all quiet and he’s like I know I’m sorry but I could have lost YOU and I couldn’t handle that. I couldn’t. And Cora’s sobbing and he’s like I love you so much Law and Law’s like yeah. I love you too 🥺
Meanwhile the Strawhats witnessed this entire conversation and they’re like. Wow okay that was a lot to unpack. Law’s got a dad and they’re very protective of each other and apparently his dad is Doflamingo’s brother?? And Law literally dismantled Doflamingo’s entire criminal organization and DIDN’T bother telling his dad about it?? No wonder he’s pissed. And they’re also like awwwww we’ve never seen Law so soft and vulnerable before 💕 and Law looks at them and he’s like. You repeat ANY of what you just heard and I WILL kill you. And they’re like ‘Mhmm okay yup we hear you loud and clear. Btw what’s your dad like’ with the BIGGEST shit eating grins and Law’s like Okay! Killing you now!! And proceeds to chase them with his katana

Cora Lives AU but:
-he’s temporarily lost some of his memories
-he spends his days on an island as a farmer
-chronic pain, retired marine
-as law goes on to form the heart pirates and set sail in the polar tang, years later, they anchor at the very island that cora lives on, the memories flooding back to him as law calls out to cora-san
-they all catch up, cora proud of law for finding a sense of home and found family, happy that he’s alive and well,
-cora sets sail with the group and becomes a heart pirate, he’s still clumsy as hell and everyone watches out for his well being, i.e. setting himself on fire, other clumsy shenanigans
-the crew has one more beloved member and law’s home is a little more lovely
- the end :)

People get really mad about this, but WHAT IF Corazon is alive?
I know I can really sound delusional after so many time (saw someone saying that if he did were alive, he would reappear in Dressrosa, but I think it would b too on top of the loop. Not Oda style). But WHAT IF!
There is a plothole for him to come back, we all know that. One piece characters don't die so easily. And when Doffy shoot him, what if he shoot the right spots so he brother doesn't die? Just like in One Piece Academy?
(probably failed not sounding delusional but)
So if there's a really tiny chance he's alive somewhere, with little memories maybe, wouldn't be a fun last challenge to Law?
Fight ur not so dead dad and get the One piece?
I think a heart wrenching aspect of Cora's 'uncertain' passing is that Law might've subconsciously waited for Cora during his stay at Swallow. Maybe 'silence' was dispelled because Cora san passed out? Maybe he survived gunshots like the countless wounds he survived before, and he was right about Doffy not having it in him to kill his brother? I've loved this comic for exploring this idea.
What if Cora is alive, though? I can indulge you a bit so people will think twice before calling you out next time 😎
Here's one in courtesy of Japanese YouTuber kayokky-ch. Back in chapter 49 during Baratie arc, the cooks described a customer like this, and it was never addressed afterwards :
Tumblr media
Aren't these some wicked coincidences? Red eyes, wine addiction, bursting in flames - all points click.
Add Oda's tendency to keep people alive. Theories write themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have seen Whitebeard and Ace's fruit re-emerged, but Cora's is yet to return. Oda has a knack to work with old bits of information he spread around, especially with Saul's comfirmed survival, you can speculate other possibilities.
At least, the possibility isn't at 0%, so if Oda wakes up one day and decides Cora's incredible popularity deserves some attention... it'll be controversial but not a complete retcon.
A definitive proof in favor of Cora's death was the mariner's report and the image they attached to it. At least, Sengoku was supposed to know.
Tumblr media
Unless you have a case where Cora was clinically dead for some time and then returned to life, and now Sengoku is keeping his survival a secret.
The theory above speculates that he might be "The man marked by flame", and that's why Law was particularly focused on when this mysterious person was brought up. I'm not sure what sort of agenda Cora would have if he returns. What's your theory behind Rosi possibly confronting Law, anon?
Tumblr media
Personally, I've come in terms with the fact that Cora has died. Although, It's a shame that Law never got to return his "love you." Since Oda was somewhat involved with One Piece Odyssey, I like to imagine that Law's words to Cora here are checked by Oda himself. I thought they were very sweet.

Thanks for the ask!

The angst and feels of resurrected Cora au, where Law is now older than Cora. He was 26 and he came back just the same as he died.
Law is in his 40s, settled down as a doctor that sometimes still travels the world for new medicine and to discuss history with Robin, visit the strawhats and the like.
He also goes every year to leave his respects to Rosinante on the island where he was lost. Sometimes, others are there, mostly Drake, who pays respects to his Father.
Then one day, the grave is freshly disturbed and a confused Cora is sitting there looking at a Law that could be his father.
There would be so much emotion and Cora would still call him kid xd

Law Reader x Record of Ragnarok
Where they fight in Ragnarok and stun many with their powers.
And Corazaon, I forgot how to spell his name-, is in the Audience as well-
-Bepo was snoring quietly behind you as you were leaning against him, your hat pulled over your eyes, as you were relaxing for a short while, preparing in advance for your battle.
-Brunnhilde asked you to fight for humanity in Ragnarok, to ensure humanities’ salvation, and while at first you weren’t going to accept, because you had questioned what humanity had done for you, thinking back to your childhood when you were still alive.
-However, when Corazon, who had been walking over to meet up with you and the rest of your crew, slipping on nothing and falling backwards and somehow set himself on fire, you agreed to fight, as you didn’t want to lose those you were closest to, not again.
-Now backstage, waiting for your turn, only Bepo was with you, serving as your pillow, but also as your security blanket, keeping you calm. You had faith in your skills and abilities, especially after Brunnhilde told you that your abilities with your Devil Fruit could be used, since it was a part of you when you died, so you knew that you were going to win, but there was always a chance, and that had you a bit nervous.
-When it was time, Bepo hugged you, not wanting you to go, but you just smiled, “I’ve got this- go join Cora-san and the others.” He sniffled softly, agreeing to your command and he headed off as you headed out into the arena.
-You were different than the warriors who came before you, you didn’t seem as jacked as many of them were, despite the long sword you held to your shoulder and your cocky but mysterious looking smile on your lips.
-Your opponent was arrogant and rude, reminding you a bit of men you had met in the past, as he laughed at you, thinking you were a weakling due to your smaller size compared to other competitors.
-You weren’t bothered, a soft chuckle leaving you while you heard Bepo, Cora-san and the others all shouting behind you, being irate for you, calling your opponent names. You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at their antics.
-When the match started, you smirked, holding your free hand out in front of you, “Room!” a dome appeared around the two of you as many shouted, wondering what it was before you quickly charged, drawing your sword and sliced through your opponent, but there was no blood, and he wasn’t dead.
-your crew cheered as you tossed your opponent’s head up and down like a ball, making him yell, “What the hell did you do? Put my body back together and fight me like a warrior!!”
-You did as he asked, reforming his body before you were quickly on him, not giving him a chance as a smirk appeared on your face, “I’m a pirate- not a warrior.” Before you took his head from his shoulders, the correct way this time.
-Your crew cheered loudly, and you rolled your eyes as Cora-san slipped and fell into the arena, landing hard and you came over to help him up, dragging him backstage to patch him up again.
-Zeus was furious at the outcome, seeing the ability you used, and tried to dispute the result with Brunnhilde, who provided him proof that your Devil Fruit ability was something you had when you died and ascended to Valhalla- it was legal as it was a part of you.
-While your crew was celebrating in your waiting room, with you just nursing a mug of booze, being held in Bepo’s arms, the tournament came to a standstill as they had to go over the rules on what was allowed or not, but that wasn’t your problem. You were enjoying your drink and the antics of your crew.

22. Camp

If I can draw Bonney with both parents, Cora-san has to be alive as well. He is happy to spend time camping with Law. Kind of ironic to post this one day before Doflamingo‘s birthday.

I really can't wait for another sleepless night with Law. We're curious and thrilled what you gonna serve on the next chapter
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though Law managed to "force himself to sleep", the problems don't seem to have disappeared… Now he's sure that none of what happened was a hallucination due to lack of sleep, in that case, what the hell is going on? How is it possible that Cora-san is alive, why does Mugiwara seem to be the same as two years ago and who is that mysterious person who talked about "souldreams boxes"?

Helloo do u have any Lawlu + Doffy fic recs (any content rating)? the interactions between those 3 are always so good. Just looove how you write them in your fics!
Why yes, yes I do!
"though the stars may tell us it is so" by pascaliana (T)
Doffy’s a monster, Cora-san had said more than once and Law always wondered but never asked, What does that make me? - In which soulmates are a sacred bond and Law's soulmate is Doflamingo.
"a victory every year" by @betsib (T)
Law finds himself imprisoned in Impel Down, injured and possibly dying. His only company is Doflamingo, who tells him Luffy has been captured too. All in all, not the best way to spend his birthday.
"(Love Will Find a Way) Where Wolves Fear to Prey" by betsib (M)
For the last eight years, Law has been held captive by Donquixote Doflamingo, forced to spend his days as a bunny and his nights in Doflamingo's bed. One day, he sees his chance to flee. A little while later, Luffy finds a lost little bunny on the streets and takes him home.
(Side note: I beta'd this one!)
"as I hold your hollow heart" by @betsib (M)
The Straw Hats pick up Bepo and an unconscious Law after the events at Winner Island. Luffy is more than ready to help him, but when Law opens his eyes, he is a stranger. Meanwhile, Law wakes up in Dressrosa, with Doflamingo's symbol tattooed on his chest and servants calling him "Corazon".
"My Heart Is Still Beating (But I Lost It Long Ago)" by betsib (E)
Law is travelling alone between quarantine zones when he comes across a young man with three bullets in his torso and an unflinching look in his eyes.
"A Smile In My Veins" by @betsib (M)
Law is doing his best to live his life and ignore the fact that he is, technically, no longer alive at all. All he wants is a momentary distraction. Luffy is investigating a series of murders that look like they were caused by vampires, but something seems strange about it. He needs more information. They meet in a bar.
(This is the first fic of betsib's that I ever read, and I knew we had to be friends because our brains are on the same wavelength.)
"Hunger for the Absolute" by ObsidionWingsofMidnight (NR)
When Law woke up from his 500 year slumber, he sure as hell wasn't expecting to get a husband out of it. He also wasn’t expecting to learn that he’d lost a chunk of his memories, or that he’d made new friends during this forgotten time. The marriage thing was weird though. To a king, no less. A very loud, very boisterous, very tactile king that never seemed to stop laughing. And what kind of king wore a straw hat anyway? To top it all off, he still has a million other things to take care of, not the least of which is helping his new husband to secure their kingdom against oncoming threats. But what Law doesn’t know is that there are more dangers lurking than he realizes. Ones from his past that have hidden for centuries, waiting for the right moment to strike. And he’ll need all the help he can get to keep them from consuming him.
"Roll Like Thunder, Burn Like Stars" by killingmonsterswritingthings (M)
Law is a private investigator trying everything to forget his past. But there's ties he can't cut - especially when his past comes back to haunt him in a case. or   “Why do you keep purposefully triggering yourself?” Corazón asked, his voice too close despite the tinny effect of the phone. “I'm still talking to you, aren't I?” Law spat back. It was a terrible thing to say but it was also the only thing he could say without making his hands shake uncontrollably.
(I am absolutely obsessed with this Jessica Jones AU; I've reread it countless times, and it has a vice-like grip on my soul. It hasn't updated in six years, though, sob.)
Enjoy, anon!

happy birthday law!! this fucking nerd lives so freely in my head that sometimes I consider him to be real. i am so normal about him. and i'm not crying, stop!!!
pure fluff! with some emotional lines, gender neutral reader
Tumblr media
"Hey, Law?" You called him in the darkness of the kitchen, the poor man had just wanted to get some water and ended up bumping into you in the kitchen.
Before he could even wonder what the hell you were doing in the dark kitchen in the middle of the night, you continued, "Happy birthday."
Birthdays were still strange for Law.
The concept of people around you simply turning to celebrate that you were alive on one day of the year, if you were happy someone was alive, that celebration should be done every day of the year, not just one.
However, he still held the memories of his past birthdays.
The first one he remembered was a surprise birthday his parents had thrown for him. He didn't remember much, but he remembered finding it strange that neither his father nor mother were there to explain some facts about the human body as they always did; they spent the whole day very busy. His friends also seemed a bit strange, as if they were playing something Law wasn't invited to.
But he distinctly remembered coming home later that afternoon and being startled by everyone shouting "surprise!" and starting to sing "happy birthday." He also remembered that at the end of the party, everyone had yellow icing on their faces, even little Lami, who couldn't barely even walk on her own.
The few birthdays he celebrated with the Donquixote Family were actually quite fun. Despite his insistence that he didn't want to celebrate, there was always a big cake in the center of the table with some candles that never matched his age, but you could tell they were at least trying.
Baby 5 and Buffalo always tried to shove his face in the cake, but he always managed to dodge and put their faces in it instead. Somehow, even after the candle was blown out, Corazón still managed to set himself on fire.
Luckily, Law still managed to celebrate one more birthday with Cora-san. During their travels from hospital to hospital, the day Cora had marked on his little calendar finally came, although he had been keeping the date in his head for the past month. The man asked Law to continue without him to the same place where they were sheltered, saying he would arrive soon.
"Hey, Law?" Rosinante called the boy when he finally caught up to him, turning to find the man holding a piece of cake. "Happy birthday!" Cora held a broad smile on his lips.
Little Law thought he would never forget that scene.
The other birthdays were a bit more difficult, just mentioning them made Law shrink and try to change the subject, but eventually, small bargains were made, and the aspiring doctor finally decided he wanted to celebrate his birthday. This was in his last year living with Wolf, it wasn't planned, but he was glad to be able to celebrate his last birthday with the old man.
They celebrated at a small restaurant in Pleasure Town so that the people who lived in the town could also be present. For the first time since Flevance, Law received some gifts: a lab coat with his name embroidered on it, a stethoscope, and some last chapters of "Sora, the Warrior of the Sea", which he couldn't read.
Birthdays in the first years aboard the Polar Tang were more limited, but they were still fun, even if Law didn't always want to celebrate. It was funny to see them try to put together a surprise, but Bepo always ruined it.
It was also funny to see the looks on everyone's faces when Law ordered them to clean up the dining room after the mess they made with the confetti.
However, this year the surprise was in your hands. Luckily, Law was already leaving the office before you could send someone to fetch him; Uni had alerted you through a mini Den Den Mushi, you had left him to watch if Law would leave the room before you prepared everything.
You called him before he could enter the kitchen, making him startle a bit. You approached him before he turned on the lights, with your hands behind your back and the gentlest smile you could muster. "Happy birthday," and the lights were turned on, everyone shouted "surprise" and started singing "happy birthday."
Law stood frozen in place as they sang, his lips parted and his eyes wide. The way you wished him a happy birthday and the way they managed, for the first time, to pull off a successful surprise birthday party, it all reminded him of the past. Shachi and Penguin tried to shove his face in the cake, but a "Room, Shambles!" was enough to leave the cake untouched on the table and Shachi in his place while Penguin burst one of the balloons in his friend's face.
Even in the middle of the night, everyone was there, celebrating the life of their captain, even after spending the entire year showing their gratitude for his presence. Bepo gifted him with a big bear hug, rubbing his cheek against Law's face and wishing him a happy birthday in the way his own people had taught him.
"Captain! Who's the first piece of cake for?" Ikkaku asked. Everyone had their own speculations. Some bet it was for you, others said it was for Bepo, and there were even bolder ones who claimed he would give the piece to themselves.
Law thought for a moment; he wanted to dedicate his piece of cake to a special person, the one who helped him become who he was today. The idea tugged at his heart a little.
"I... Um..." He looked at the piece in his hand and then at the crew in front of him, all smiling, eager for his answer. Law placed the piece further down on the table, in front of everyone. "For all of you..." He murmured, looking away, trying to hide his reddening cheeks.
"CAAAPTAAAAIN!!" There was an emotional chorus, and everyone tried to approach to hug him, but he pleaded desperately for them not to do it.
Law received an expensive (and stolen) stethoscope, as his old one was too worn. He also got some early chapters of "Sora, the Warrior of the Sea" a bit used and with yellowed pages, but from an old collector's edition. He wondered if he would ever receive a lab coat.
Nostalgically, he also wondered if Cora-san would be there to set himself on fire even after the candles were blown out.
Law hugged you tightly some time later and rested his forehead on your shoulder; you simply accepted the embrace, moving your hand to the back of his neck. It was only when he whispered a "thank you" against your skin that you realized he was crying.
He was a discreet man. You just let him cry on your shoulder without saying anything, running your hands over his waist, letting him cry as much as he wanted. You knew his tears weren't of sadness, especially after what he had confessed to you a few days ago.
"I think I'm finally doing what Cora-san wanted me to do", he commented, lifting his eyes from the stack of papers and books on his desk to look at you. "He wanted me to live..." You smiled patiently, reaching him with slow steps.
You took off his hat, running your hand through his hair, pushing the strands that fell on his face back. "Cora-san certainly loved you", you said. "Besides living, I believe he would want you to be happy", Law hugged your waist, pressing his face into your belly. "Are you doing what he wanted?"
He fell silent, thinking of an answer. Now, once again, embraced by you as he hid his face in your neck, Law finally found his answer.

there is a culture here in brazil where you give the first piece of your cake to someone special, only when I discovered that this only happens here, I realized how cute it is.

Saw your marineford fix it rec list. Loved the fics so much. Do you have any fic recs where corazon lives? I love that dead man so much
Hi! I'm so glad you liked the list, of course I can do that for you!
Here are some
Corazon Lives Fic Recs
I've separated it out in two ways. One where the fix happens through someone going back in time or across dimensions, so they come from a world where he did die. and I separated out the shippy content, as a lot of these works are LawLu. Hope you enjoy!
Time/Dimension Travel:
No Ship:
Stirring Up a Storm by Syluk - Rated T
The last thing Law remembered was dying. Yet now he found himself staring at a familiar face. A face that belonged to a person long dead, but very much alive again. Cora-san. If this was a second chance, Law would do anything to save him, to protect his smile and his kindness, or die trying.
Lionheart by cyan96 - Rated T
The light overhead isn't from Minion island's overcast sky but instead a steel plated ceiling shining down fluorescence, glass and plastic bottles rattling on shelves against the walls. Everywhere there's monitors and familiar machinery and the distinct tang of antiseptic, sharp beyond the memory sense of blood and snow. For half a second Law looks at it all very blankly and thinks, What The Hell. Is he dreaming. Is he hallucinating. Is he just plain dead. His sight-line completes the rotation of this impossibility to fall upon speckled jeans and a long sweeping coat. And the man standing in front of Law has the blankest expression Law's ever seen. And the man standing in front of Law has Law's father's face. Underneath Law's blood-slicked fingers, Cora-san's pulse shudders. (This is a story where the past and the present collide. Wherein thirteen year old Trafalgar Law and twenty-six year old Rocinante tumble sideways through time-space via the blue desperation of a newly eaten devil fruit, from Minion island to a future distant. Right, unwittingly, onto the submarine deck of a another Law shortly after Doflamingo’s fall.)
A World So Quiet by scarlet_thunder - Rated T
Snowflakes float gently in the air. Law has no idea when it started snowing. There is frost forming around the railing, almost reaching his fingers. Everything seems too calm. An odd sense of dread fills Law as they approach the island. He should finally feel at peace. It all just feels too familiar. Another winter island over a decade ago, it was snowing back then as well.   After defeating Kaido and Big Mom, the Heart pirates momentarily part ways with the Strawhats. They find themselves sailing towards a small winter island in the New World. The island is coated in a heavy blanket of snow, making everything eerily quiet. In the forest, Corazon feels like the last thread of life he is hanging onto is slowly slipping away. Or, Corazon lives.
blame it on the grand line by jsjsjs - Rated G
No matter how many times he tried to push them away, images of Flevance resurfaced. (in which 13-year-old law gets time zapped to a post-wano polar tang and chaos ensues, resulting in two thoroughly angsty trafalgars, twenty highly confused heart pirates, and later on, one wholesome dad rosinante).
Stasis by petiteneko - Rated G
Unbeknownst to Law, Corazon did not actually die that day. Twelve years later, he learns the truth of what really happened.
Testimonial by owl_beans - Rated G
It's too good to be true. Cora-san couldn't be alive. Shouldn't be alive. Law isn't going to believe this perfect impostor until he proves beyond a doubt that he really is Cora-san. And even if he is, what does it mean for Law?
LawLu:
Rainbow Mist by vindobonensis - Rated M
On the way to Zou, the Barto-Club and the members of the Strawhats they have on board come across an odd Grand Line phenomenon - a Rainbow Mist. But when Luffy ventures into it, chasing adventure, he returns with something - or rather someone - entirely unexpected. Set after Dressrosa. Not canon-compliant after that. Eventual Law x Luffy.
seesaw by Lolistar92 - Rated G
Rayleigh nods. “Roger explained it after. It’s a trial for those that carry the Will of the D. A chance to face your greatest life’s regret. Change destiny.” Law’s brows scrunch together. “This isn’t my -”  he pauses, something clicking. “We switched.” Or, the Pirate King cannot have regrets.
No Time/Dimension Travel:
No Ship:
Small Changes by SweetScentences - Rated T
Doflamingo and his crew don't touch the treasure chest Law is hidden in. A few other things change too.
Little White Lies by PitViperOfDoom - Rated T
It's not quite an idea, only a piece of one. Barely a notion. But it's something, in the same way that the Ope-Ope fruit is not quite a cure but the first step toward being cured. Cora has given him that much, and the least Law can do is give back.
Red Hair Law by Eraman - Rated T
When Akagami no Shanks hears about a tall blonde man blowing up hospitals he wants to figure out what this is all about. One thing leads to another and now the Red Hair Pirates have two new members and a little kid they all kind of adopt. Especiall Benn and Shanks. Things doesn't start out too smoothly though… who knew being a parent could be so difficult?
To Live Free by KivaEmber - Rated G
Corazon wakes up. Considering he's supposed to be dead, this is pretty confusing.
Spring Storms and Paperwork (and how Sengoku feels about that) by Kasmusser - Rated G
A spring storm rolls in over Marineford leaving Sengoku little to do but paperwork. He mostly just rubberstamps the work of others. He gets a bit of surprise and changes an opinion. Otherwise known as Sengoku thought his son was dead and learns the truth through a bounty
LawLu:
Supportive Granddads United by LannisPuff - Rated T
Garp the Fist, hero of the marines and doting grandfather. One of those two was less known to the world, but certainly a defining trait for those who knew him. So when his precious grandson is suffering from his soulmates unknown illness, Garp is not going to sit idle.
it'll work out fine by stainedXglassXmasquerade - Rated G
Everyone knows strange things happen on the Grand Line. Dreams from an unknown future aren't as common, but, well, Luffy's a D and all the information checks out. In which Garp and Sengoku interfere and collect people as they go, Luffy gets a best friend and two brothers for his birthday, Drake is brought along for the ride, Shanks isn't arrested on sight and Makino is happy that everyone's becoming good friends.
Take out as in on a date, right? by chenziee - Rated G
When Admiral Trafalgar Law was ordered to "take Straw Hat Luffy out," he thought it was strange. But who was he to defy his superiors?

So I did some calculating (read: guesstimating, since I am still prohibited from looking at the wiki bc of spoilers) and I figured out the following:
During Dressrosa we learn Law got his Devil Fruit 13 years ago. If I remember correctly, Luffy got his 10 years before start of the show + two years timeskip + a couple months in change where they were actively travelling = 12 and a half(+?) years ago.
Now add in a bit of fanfic handwaving timeline adjusting and we're left with the realisation: Rosinante is fated to die saving Law at the same time Shanks loses his arm saving Luffy.
And the consequence of that leaves the potential for the CoraMiShanks Fix It AU to have all of them on Kuraigana at the same time, recovering physically, mentally and emotionally from everything that just happened.
So let me (lengthily) unravel the timeline of events under the cut:
Cora-san and Law learn of the Ope Ope No Mi and get going, informing Mihawk of their plans, who promises to catch up to them to help and asks them to wait.
Cora does not, in fact, wait; feeling the chance slip through their fingers between Doffy and the Marines going after it as well
In the North Blue, Cora is shot. In the East Blue Shanks has his arm bitten off.
Mihawk arrives just in time to scoop up a despodent Law and watch the silence spell break; it starts a race against time to find Rosinante and bring him to the village doctor/clinic whatever place where he can be treated. This also requires Mihawk to somehow manage pulling Law from 'all is lost' mode into 'crisis solving' mode, because he's the one with the medical knowledge to even begin having a chance at saving Rosinante.
In the East Blue Shanks is gritting his teeth trying not to lose control over his Haki as Hongo does his job to fix as much of his arm as is possible.
12 frantic hours later Rosinante is barely hanging on to life, but at least a number of lead bullets lighter. Law is so exhausted he's shaking, only not passing out because he's also still suffering his own pain. Mihawk is woozy and unsteady because he has just donated much more blood than medically advised to replace all that Rosinante has lost.
The Marines arrive on Minion Island. Mihawk is planning on using his Warlord status and intimidate their way off the island, only for Sengoku to find them first. Sengoku is faced with the pain of watching his adopted son unconscious on that bed, halfway to death, only still alive because of the actions of the Warlord least inclined to ever follow orders and the little kid who shows all signs of his body going through the adjustment of just having consumed a Devil Fruit. Sengoku helps them leave the island unseen. Its the least and simultaniousy last he can do.
Mihawk calls Shanks. Rosinante is still unstable, and for all the knowledge Law has, he severely lacks the experience, and there is only one other doctor Mihawk knows and trusts with this. Shanks promises that they will be at Kuraigana in no time. Mihawk hears the pain in his voice, but Shanks asks that they talk about that in person.
The Red Force arrives at Kuraigana first, which is good because it gives Hongo time to set up and sees Benn and Shanks in a position to catch Mihawk when he stumbles off his boat, having pushed so far that he hasn't slept in who knows how long to get them here as fast as possible. Shanks leaves Benn to help him and assists the kid. Hongo spends the next couple hours fixing whatever can be fixed to further stabilise Rosinante. Law insists on helping, or at least being there. The Ope Ope No Mi is not magic, but Law is willing to put the work in.
Shanks watches over Rosinante so Mihawk and Law can rest. Also so that he doesn't have to face Mihawk yet.
Hongo gives Mihawk the medical run down, including Law and Shanks' state at Mihawk's request, before slipping him a sleeping aid.
So here they all are. In various amounts of horrible pain and scared of the immediate future.
Law fears for Cora-san while also not knowing if the Devil Fruit actually saved him. Rosinante is only ever regaining consciousness in short bursts, and calling for Law in all of them. Shanks is suffering horrible phantom limb pain but lies about it so he doesn't have to talk to Mihawk about losing his sword arm yet. And Mihawk is emotionally overwhelmed to the end of the world, scared for Rosinante, scared for the kid, scared for what is going to become of Shanks and himself now.
Perfect, ever stoic Mihawk wants to scream. Yell at Rosinante for not waiting. Yell at Shanks for not being more careful. But that won't help any of them. So he makes food. Recruits the kid into cutting vegetables to keep him occupied and moving while they wait. Writes down the list of things that contain gluten that Rosinante can't have. Writes down the list of foods that have textures Law can't stand (and doesn't Mihawk know that feeling from his childhood). He makes stew because Shanks can eat it with one hand without needing to ask for help. Makes enough to feed Benn and Hongo who won't be going anywhere for the forseeable future too. Honestly he's lost track just how much he owes them now.
And at some point, when his mind stumbles out of merely functioning and falls face first into reality, Mihawk sits in the dark and allows himself to cry.
Because he almost lost them. He almost lost them all.

Zeffsora!Siblings au, but where Sora is alive + Cora x Sora and Law&Sanji brothers!
Ok so, in this, everything thing is the same except Sora doesn't die but Judge makes Sanji believe she is dead and locks him in the dunsheon. Of course, this don't last even a month until Sora discovers and uses all her strenght to take her son and run away, sending a letter explaining the situation to Zeff right after. So Sanji just stay more or less a month in the dunsheon.
Sora fakes their deaths and steals a both, going away. During this, both meet a 11 yo Law who is sick with a Corazon who is looking for a cure for the kid. The four of them start to sail together after some time.
They sail during two years, until Cora finds the Ope Ope no Mi so Law isn't sick anymore. Doflamingo finds them but don't see Law, Sora or Sanji but still shots his brother, Corazon survives tough.
Some weeks after this, with Cora-san much better, Law using his powers from the Akuma no Mi to heal himself and Sora, they find Zeff. Both siblings are happy to see each other and Sora tells everything that happened during these two years. Her brother can notice she seems to... like the man a little too much.
Then, they stay with Zeff for a while, the man noticing the romance between Corazon and his sister. Is he protective? Of course, but the blonde seems to really love Sora so he thinks he can give Rosinate a chance. Sanji and Law already act like brothers so they pratically are a family.
The CoraSora start a relatonship some time after finding Zeff, definitely taking Law and Sanji as their kids. Sanji sees Cora-san as his father as much as the man sees him as a son. And Law sees Sora as a mother just like she sees him as a son. They all chose to take the last name Trafalgar since Donquixote or Vinsmoke are out of question.
After a year or so, with Law going to start his crew with Bepo, Shachi and Penguin, and Zeff oficially going to open the Baratie, Sanji asks his parents if he can go with uncle Zeff so he can be teached how to be a cook. They talk and ask Zeff if this is okay with him. At the end, eggplant goes with his uncle, Patty and Carne to open Baratie.
Both brothers talk with each other and his parents once a week, they all happy that they have such a health and good family. Then Garp showing and having the idea of bringing his grandsons. Zeff at least tells his sister what his boyfriend is planing.
Garp brings ASL and they get along with Sanji quick. Resulting in a very happy Sanji the news that he made friends to his brother and parents.
Then ASL start liking him more and more and falling in love with Sanji. And Sanji is also in love with these three feral boys, his parents find this amusing and later on they ask Zeff about the boys, he says ASL are good brats and they seems to genuinely and really love Sanji. This makes Corazon and Sora relieved, and they talk that if Sanji wants, then he can date these boys. And no, he did not tell Law this on a call, damnmit! His older brother is protective as hell! Sanji and his parents chose that it's easyer telling Law this when the brothers see each other in person again.
But then ASL just ask him to be their boyfriend and well, seems like the news that he's in love with three feral boys will be changed that he's in love and dating said three feral boys. When Law and Sanji have a call the next day, Sanji says he has news to his brother that he wants to say in person when they meet again. Law is confused but agrees.
A month and half later, Law needs to go to the East Blue remembers what his young brother said and calls saying "I will be in the East Blue in a week, I will go visit you and uncle Zeff". Sanji is happy but also, fuck, he has only a week to think about how tell this to his protective older brother.
Later the same day, when ASL arrive to see their boyfriend and eat lunch in the restaurant, they notice Sanji seems really happy with something, to which he reply "Law is coming here!", which... Don't aswer anything? Since they didn't knew who Law was?
This makes ASL more questions about who this guy was for Sanji be so happy to see, Sanji tells it's his older brother who is a pirate (this makes ASL surprised).
Next week, when Law arrives, both go talk in Law's bedroom on the Polar Tang, the older guy wanting to know what "news" his baby bro had. He creates a room so no one hears them talking, and Sanji tells the news that, yay! He's dating all the three feral boys he telled him about'
Law freaks out. Obviously. But then he talks with Sanji and yes, he is protective, but if their parents and uncle Zeff think these boys are good people, then he thinks he can give them a chance.
The brothers stay all day talking, Zeff saying to Law that him and the crew can stay near Baratie and eat there. Sanji goes to sleep with Law on the Polar Tang, both staying awake talking until it's late.
The next day, as if things can't get better, ASL arrive to see Sanji with Garp. And well, meeting their boyfriend older brother wasn't in the plans, but they're already there so they can't do anything.
And would be funny as hell, because if Sanji is, maybe, 13 there, then Law is 18. And he probaly already is tall (to a point where Sanji almost reaches his shoulders) and has the piercing and some tattos. So think about 14 yo Ace and Sabo and 11 yo Luffy meeting this boy who always has a threatening and serious face.
(Also, in the Law&Sanji!Brothers au, they have so much "sunshine" - Sanji - and "sunshine protector" - Law - vibes)
Absolutely those are the vibes they give off, betcha Law even calls Sanji 'Sunshine' and the parents started calling him that too. Zeff 100% does. The fucking asshole.
Okay so Sora is deathly ill from drinking the poison and is locked off in a medical wing and no one is allowed to visit for 'fear of making her worse' which is absolute shit and they all know it. Sanji is considered a failure and locked in the dungeon with the helmet shortly after and Sora is not having it. She escapes and gets Sanji and once they're off Germa, maybe an island or two away she sends a letter to Zeff.
They find Law and Corazon as they're going along. Law is staring at them as they introduce themselves and Corazon introduces himself back. Sanji and Law are staring at each other because what the fuck? Law is outnumbered by these blonds. He is trapped and surrounded. They start sailing together to look for a cure for Law and Corazon and Sora start growing closer over time. So do Law and Sanji because Law is a lot nicer than his siblings and Law sees a new little baby sibling in him. Law is the first one to start calling him 'sunshine' and Sanji takes to it very easily. As do their parents.
Eventually Corazon gets a lead on the Ope-Ope no Mi so they start hunting it down. When they do find it, it's a fight. Corazon hides the kids and Sora away from everyone. He tells them he loves them and puts them in silence and waits for Doflamingo. He gets shot as he stares his brother down and he passes out after he thinks they're safe, not thinking he'll wake up. So he's surprised when he does and Law and Sanji are standing over him, on their ship, with Sora chiding them from the doorway. They immediately start yelling that he's awake and he's okay! Law did great! 'Mom' and 'Sora' mixed in as she smiles at them and checks on her lover herself and helps him eat and drink as he breaks down crying that they're all okay, they made it away.
Then Zeff shows up a few days later. Law has mostly healed his Sora's ailments when he calls 'Pirates!' as loud as he can. Sora rushes on deck with Cora's gun at the ready until she sees the flag and calms down the boys and calls to Cora it's alright. She knows them as the boat pulls up alongside them and Sora yells to Zeff as loud as she can it's about time he shows up. Zeff yells back she hasn't been an easy woman to track down by any means. They lay the planks so the crew can come aboard and start carrying their supplies over and load the four of them onto the larger ship and once it's clear they sail away and sink the smaller ship so no one can track them. Sanji is excited about a real galley and Law is excited to see new medical journals. Rosinante and Sora are just happy they're all safe as she introduces them all to Zeff and Zeff introduces his crew. They start sailing together and Zeff notices pretty quickly how close Rosinante and Sora are, he doesn't like it, doesn't like there's another man after Sora. He fucking hated Judge and what's happened therefore another outrageously tall blond guy? Zeff asks Sora about everything and she tells him and Zeff is getting ready to sail to Germa as Sora is basically hanging off her oldest brother to stop him which is so funny because Sora is in her thirties and Zeff in his fifties as he's yelling orders to his crew and Sora is telling him not to. Zeff gives in because they simply can't take Germa and asks what she wants to do then. Sora says she just wants to find a place to live with the kids, relatively peaceful but it's the North Blue so she's not hoping for much. Zeff thumbs at Rosinante with his burning coat witch a quirked brow and she says him too. Zeff rubs his face and asks his navigator to find them something.
They sail for a while. Sora and Rosinante getting even closer and Law reading all the journals with the medic and getting more whenever they reach port. Sanji reads all the cookbooks and helps cook and learns with the crew. Law eventually sets off but still calls everyone once a week to let them know he's alive. Sora and Rosinante settle on an island and Sanji heads with Zeff to the East Blue to open Baratie so he can "retire". The family call is always hectic, especially as Law's crew grows and are introduced. When the Baratie opens the three of them can't make it and Sanji is so tired he is nodding off during the call - Zeff does take a picture and sends it to them. Law has it hanging up in quarters of the Polar Tang and Sora and Rosinante have it in the kitchen of their little house. Garp visits Baratie with his grandsons because Zeff is his boyfriend and Sanji could use more friends. Sanji meets them and stares at them as they're all introduced and Luffy rubber bands his arms around the two older boys and Zeff sighs long and loud until he Sanji introduces himself as "Trafalgar D. Sanji" which makes Zeff pinch the bridge of his nose as Garp laughs. The boys get along fine.
Then ASL start liking Sanji more than they used to. Over their hangouts they start noticing exactly how much they like him and start fighting to do things for him which makes Sanji confused. Sanji also keeps forgetting to mention his family outside of Baratie to they boys because they're all so talkative and boisterous. Sanji keeps track of the conversations he's having with each of them but it is definitely a trial because they're all over the place in terms of thinking and talking. It's just a matter of time really before Sanji starts liking them back and truly it's awful because three? Three? No way they like him.
But then they ask him to be their boyfriend and he agrees. When he and Law have their own phone call the next day he tells his older brother who has heard of them on their family calls like normal. The resounding thud on the other side of the call and then the immediate freak out afterwards is bad but so funny. Law yells Sanji is thirteen and shouldn't be dating and Sanji shoots back that at least he is since Law's not and Law threatens to drown him and Sanji throws back he'll take Law with him. Ya know, sibling stuff. Sanji points out everyone likes them and thinks they're good and Law sighs and says he still wants to meet them. He has to come to the East Blue for a few things any way and it's been a while since they've seen each other. Sanji is excited to see his brother and meet his crew in person and just so excited truthfully, so Law gives him the date of when they'll be at Baratie and Sanji is so excited. He's bouncing around the Baratie and when ASL and Garp are visiting they ask why and Sanji is just only saying Law is coming soon and he's excited because it's been a couple of years and he misses his brother deeply. ASL are confused because Sanji is dating them? Who the fuck is Law? Sanji? Sanji doesn't explain further other than bouncing around and Zeff doesn't explain anything to them or Garp. Just rolls his eyes and continues on like usual. Sanji is usually able to focus easily but since finding out he hasn't been able to focus at all.
When Law and the crew come to Baratie, Zeff demands to feed them because they're traveling in a damn submarine and fucking look at them, they're all so fucking pale. Law is trying to talk Zeff out of it but is quickly overrun by his crew and he mutters about mutiny as Zeff laughs. The crew ends up staying all day at the restaurant and getting to know Zeff and Sanji and the staff. Law is obviously protective and laughs when Zeff asks him about the tattoos on his hands and answers he got a nickname from saving those that couldn't be saved without his fruit. Sanji is laughing so hard and Law is constantly hauling him up and shambling him between meals. He of course checks Sanji over and deems him fine. Law shows Sanji around the Polar Tang and Bepo holds the small blond and Sanji is surprised at how soft the mink is. Law drags Sanji into his bed to sleep because it's getting late and they've spent the day running around and using Law's fruit and Sanji has been cooking for them and it's a big crew to cook for on top of normal business. If Law snuck up to Sanji's to pack him a bag and nodded at Zeff to keep his silence for the surprise no one else needs to know. It's just been a while and Law's bed is comfy and the photos snuck of them are bought and paid for by Zeff. Of course.
The Baratie is closed the next day and despite it being closed Garp shows up with ASL who immediately yell for Sanji as Garp tells them to calm down because it was supposed to be a surprise. ASL is met by Shachi and Penguin are standing in front of them asking what they want with their captain's little brother and their confused because Sanji doesn't have a brother? What? Law laughs and asks Sanji why he didn't tell them and Sanji says he needs to try holding all of the conversations they're having together and individually. Zeff comes out to join as the crew spreads out to let the families talk and when ASL find out Law is a pirate and Sanji's brother everyone can see the gears turning in their heads. Sanji is trying not to laugh because Law is scary looking, but he's incredibly sweet and nerdy but also he doesn't cause harm unless it's in self defense really. He's a doctor, a surgeon. ASL are scared shitless of him of, his power freaks them out and Garp keeps trying to convince him to become a marine. Law says he'll think about it in ten years as Sanji laughs and says their parents will love that and Law says about as much as his boyfriends being the grandsons of a Vice Admiral.

Love reading your thoughts on Laws character 🙏💯. Which kind of people do you think he wouldn't get along at all? What are his No-Gos he couldn't forgive?
This is another post grouping many different asks in one post! Please scroll lower for different questions!
Thank you! I love receiving such nice asks ❤ those few extra nice words besides just leaving a like really go a long way!
Which kind of people he doesn't get along with? I think there are a few factors to it rather than "certain types of people". First of all, let's take a look at Kid. He admits openly he kills anyone who makes fun or disagrees with him, and Law dislikes killing, because he's a doctor. So I guess he doesn't really like people who kill others like it's not a big deal. Coincidentally, in his first meeting with Drake that we see in the manga, Law mocks him by asking "how many people did you kill?".
Second of all, people who call Law a monster (or in Kid's case, talk shit about Law behind his back). Any time that happens Law ends up doing some nasty shit Hannibal-style like putting random limbs of people together, to show them who the real monster is (not him). Law might have a bad reputation (despite the fact he doesn't seem to actually kill anyone! Original owners of 100 hearts are apparently still alive, as well as every Marine Law fought against), and he might even play along with it to his benefit, but he's more compassionate than people give him credit for.
Third example would be people who don't respect their family or crews, or hurt children, or drug people to control and use them. Clearly family ties and his own crewmates mean a lot to Law, so people who go against their own blood, like Doflamingo, automatically are on his black list. It probably does help that Doffy is also a manipulator and I think Law has enough of people like that in general.
I would also say he dislikes bullies, but then he met Shachi and Penguin when they were literally bullying Bepo and later he still became friends with them. Which means nothing is truly set in stone for him and he might change his mind about people, as long as he understands them and their reasons a bit better. Well, I guess many people will disagree with my answer here, but that's my best guess. It's possible Law actually prefers people who are "good people", the same as Luffy.
Tumblr media
Well well well... let's see, whenever people are dramatic around Law, how does he react? That might give us an answer why he "dislikes when people are dramatic".
In case of Tashigi, she was lashing out because she truly believed Law killed Smoker by ripping his heart off. She knew she's no match for Law, but she was hurting so much that all she could see were her own emotions and need for payback. Even if Law told her Smoker isn't dead there was a chance she wouldn't even listen, considering the state she was in. So what did he do? Ignore her pain? No, actually he switched her soul with Smoker's, so she could find out by herself that Smoker was fine and alive. That was his mercy. So, the answer would be: because when someone is dramatic it doesn't leave Law unaffected. He might act like he's beyond that and is just stoic and uncaring, but he is clearly anything but.
The same can be said when Bepo is super dramatic about his painful stomach in Wano. We know he won't die from it and will get better if he just listens to what Law tells him to do, but Bepo is exaggerating a lot there.
Tumblr media
And the result? Law can't leave him alone, despite the fact he needs to manage the crisis situation with the Strawhats. The final result is disastrous and Luffy lands in Udon. Whenever someone overdramatizes their reactions Law has a hard time following his own plan and goals, he is ready to ditch everything. He says that Cora-san gave him a heart and that heart sure is very compassionate, and Law must be finding himself often in situations in which it backfires on him.
The same can be said about the situation with Shinobu who clearly exaggerates "whenever a ninja is caught, they take their own life or another ninja makes sure to kill them" and Zoro with his "this is my final attack. If it fails (and I die), the rest is up to you". Whenever someone is very dramatic it is somehow always very effective on Trafalgar Law. And he ends up doing whatever that person wants him to do. You want Law to do a certain thing? Just be dramatic about it, tell him you're dying (and be a good actor about it if you're faking), and he will do just about anything for you, lol.
I also elaborated a bit more about Law's weakness to cute things, which is also somewhat related to this, because the reason is the same: it appeals to his protective side.
Tumblr media
Glad you liked it! I think Cora-san would indeed prefer for Law to just live his life any way he wants, he wouldn't even judge whoever he becomes in the future (a pirate, a marine, a village bum, a doctor), because Cora would be happy as long as Law is happy. He wants him not to feel limited anymore, for him to be free. Law aiming for revenge or dedicating 10 years to prepare a plan against Doflamingo would not be something Cora-san would be pleased with.
But if Law decided he wants the world government to pay for what it did to Flevance? I suspect Cora-san would actually support him in this. Because that's what Law chose himself to do, not for someone else's sake, and because it matters a lot to him. But would he still prefer him to chase after his childhood dream instead? For sure. For Cora-san Law is his hope, his legacy, his wish to do things right, that's why he would want Law to have the best life and live the longest possible. His love for Law is really beautiful, in a way it's the perfect family love, definitely up there with Bellemere's.
Tumblr media
Hi, anon! I actually did write a bit about scenes with Law and Robin before. In case you didn't see it, I will leave you here with a link: https://www.tumblr.com/l-in-the-light/760794596720656384/. In first ask I analyzed their Wano and Dressrosa interactions, and in second ask below it I listed their similarities and tried to take a guess at how they would vibe with each other in the future.
Long story short, I really think Law did take some risk when he shared his hidden name with her, but he doesn't exactly trust Robin yet (which shouldn't be a surprise, they're both very reserved people, especially towards strangers!). Also fandom tends to forget that Robin and Law don't know each other's pasts. Law might know some stuff about Ohara, but Robin has no way to connect Law with Flevance unless he's the one to tell her about it. That link I left you with is all I've got for them for now, but who knows, I might be doing Law's relationships with each of the Strawhats (maybe as a series of posts) in the future. Of course besides Luffy, because I wrote already like 12 posts about Law with Luffy alone haha.
Tumblr media
The simplest answer is: because Bepo is a mink, not a human. I know, I know, it sounds like the most boring answer ever, but that's how it is when it comes to Bepo and his special privileages of physical affection with Law. He's allowed to hug him, garchu him and touch him in general, and Law returns it by leaning on Bepo when he naps. Bepo is literally the only person Law allows so close to him, you don't see Shachi or Penguin touching Law.
Besides the physical touch, Bepo is also privileaged in few other areas, he seems to know Law is a D., for example, Law also told him about Flevance and probably more things about his past. But I'm sure Penguin and Shachi know all about it as well, all four of them are besties and they basically are friends since Law was 13. I guess any close friend Law would know for a decade (or more) would get the special privileages ;) tho it's probably also important that he met them so soon after losing Cora-san. They were there for him when he had no one left anymore.
When it comes to Bepo, Bepo likes to act a little like a younger brother Law would have to take care of. He's also a bit silly and has poor self-esteem, so it goes well with Law's protective older sibling side of personality. I think Bepo likes the attention so he might be occassionaly acting more immature or weaker than he actually is, just so Law pampers him a bit, lol. It's definitely very effective. But it's also mutual, Law seems to like to care for someone this way.
Some nice anon requested for me to write a seperate post about Law with his Heart Pirates, so when I get around to it, I will definitely try to elaborate on all the fun dynamics they share :)
Tumblr media
He's definitely friends with Zoro. Zoro even wrapped an arm around Law in post-Dressrosa feast! Law also scolded him so openly in Wano, even holding him by his clothes like he's about to punch him (he would never though, so far Law has never punched anyone lol). Those two definitely grew quite close together. And in Zou they share a lot of comments with each other and when they both react to danger, Zoro says he will take this on himself, probably mindful of Law's arm that was still recovering.
Tumblr media
And let's not forget that Zoro asks Law to take over the fight in the raid. We never saw Zoro trust someone *that much* before! Law even goes as far as saving Zoro a few times in that fight and gives him finally to Sanji (best person to leave Zoro with, 100%, no irony included, I swear).
Zoro trusted Law really fast, which is unusual for our resident strawhat swordsman. He was so suspicious of Robin, for example, but all it took for Zoro to hit things off with Law was one day in Dressrosa. Absolutely stunning. But not so surprising, he saw Law taking a blow from Doflamingo for the plan AND the strawhats at the same time, almost dying in the process, so of course that would earn him Zoro's respect. After all Zoro would do exactly the same, and Law did it despite the fact Strawhats aren't his own crew. Zoro probably sees Law as very responsible, daring (he aims to defeat Kaido, after all!), brave, respectful (towards the captain, Law never takes over for Luffy despite being older and more experienced!), protective towards people, serious and reliable. Those are all the traits Zoro would find very admirable. Zoro's faith in Law as a person who would take care of the Strawhats (to the point that Zoro has no problem leaving everything up to Law and just goes on a voyage around Wano) is really exceptional. It's like he believes in Law 100%.
Law on the other hand has a bit different experience with Zoro, I bet. He saw him being a great swordsman (so he earned some respect definitely), ready for sacrifices if needed and protective of others, kinda reserved but with good instincts and levelheaded most of the time, but also way too daring to the point he doesn't think too much about his own wellbeing, a bit lost and goofy (the whole Wano situation lol) and perhaps even a bit pushy (the last one is just my hunch, Law is even more reserved than Zoro after all and he wouldn't embrace anyone randomly like the latter did). If I would have to put it into just few words or one sentence, I would say that Law sees Zoro as someone he respects, especially in terms of strength and determination, but also someone he would worry about, because he tends to push himself way beyond his limits, endangering his own life all the time, and well, Zoro's gimmick of getting lost would definitely strike a protective side in Law as well.
That's why their relationship is a bit imbalanced, because it seems Law feels more inclined to take care of Zoro than Zoro feels the same for him. It's worthy to note tho that Zoro protected him in Dressrosa, even found his sword for him, when Law was the most vulnerable and immobilized thanks to seastone cuffs. I'm sure Law appreciated it a lot (he even says in Wano how important it is to trust your companions to have your back in the heat of the battle) and will not forget to return the favour as well, given the opportunity. He was probably also very touched when Zoro told him he's leaving things up to him. That kind of trust in Law's abilities and in him as a person feels very special.
They're also just two people who share quite a number of similarities. They're both rather deadpan, dislike emotional outbursts, are both levelheaded and logical (sometimes to the point of being dreadful, after all both Zoro and Law told Usopp to "just die" rather than betray the cause lol), and reserved. Might be why they get along so well together, they just share similar vibes. I totally adore their friendship! I wish more people would notice it. But then I wish more people would notice Law's friendship with Strawhats in general, not just with Luffy. He totally treats them as his second crew and I will die on this hill!
Maybe I really need to write those posts about Law and his friendships with the Strawhats.
Tumblr media
Actually, yes. I think he is absolutely trash at opening to people, so he definitely needs people he can take care of, because they slip right under his defensive walls (and he can be a total impenetrable fortress otherwise). Just compare Law's first encounter with Luffy when he thinks Luffy is strong, independant and has a great crew, he totally believes Luffy doesn't need him in any way so Law acts super detached. Yeah, he talks with Luffy, but as soon as Luffy declares him as his rival, Law retreats without as much as a word. But when he sees Luffy helpless and dying in Marineford, suddenly it's Law who reaches out towards him. And it stays that way also in Punk Hazard. That's because Law realized Luffy is reckless and needs someone to watch over him (not even his own crew is able to do that at all times).
It's actually really hard to imagine him opening up or getting along with people who he thinks don't need him in any way. We have literally no canon example of that. Even Cora-san appealed to Law's protective side, because he was a total klutz who sets himself on fire by accident all the time. Even Kin'emon, with who Law became friends with, is a bit goofy and not very smart, so it's easier for Law, because he can help and protect him. This is all related to the fact that Law just really wants to save people, it's his "new" call in life after losing Flevance and Cora-san. Who knows what would become of Law if he never met Penguin, Shachi and Bepo, another people he could take care of and who care for him back?
This might be one of the reasons why Law also doesn't get along well with Kid, until he observed him actually acting like a child, not really thinking strategically. Kid's idea of proving his worth is just to punch the opponent till they can't get up again. The moment Law realized that he started cooperating with Kid, even protecting him by distracting Big Mom in their fight. Without the Hawkins gimmick with the voodoo doll and Kid's bull/hippo attacks Law wouldn't do a thing for him. Law actually doesn't interact with many people canon-wise (you can easily count them) and it's a constant proof that he just wouldn't reach out to people or would even avoid them in general.
And sure, you can argue that Heart Pirates aren't strong so that's why Law keeps them around, because he feels responsible for them. But if you look at Strawhats, not every Strawhat is super strong either. Take Nami or Usopp or Chopper for example. They're good at what they're good at, but they can't deal with strong opponents at all. I would say it's kinda the same with Hearts, they're good at what they're good at, but definitely can't take on Kaido, Big Mom, not even Queen or King. But it doesn't mean they're just cheerleaders. The fact that they respect and love their captain so much is seperate from their actual fighting skills, imo. It's to show how much they appreciate, look up to and love him as their captain. Law might not have many friends, but those that he does keep close to him end up very dedicated to him. He definitely can attract people towards himself, he just doesn't. Unless they need him. It's not that unusual in people with strong survivor's guilt to behave in such ways that Law does.
Tumblr media
I mean, I think I wrote a lot about it here: https://www.tumblr.com/l-in-the-light/761478106370424832/
The only reason I didn't elaborate on in that post was their first meeting, which clearly rubbed Law the wrong way. Kid literally talked behind his back about him and Law didn't enjoy that (he even flipped his finger at him). He hates when people call him a monster. Kid also called out Law on his "bad manners", and that must have triggered him, because that's exactly how Vergo talked to Law, always scolding him for not adressing him with "mister". Kid might have thought he's telling Law a compliment, but Law definitely did not think it was one. Law hated their interaction so much that he couldn't stand the thought of Kid doing any sort of favour for him (taking care of the Marines outside the auction house), and besides complaining about ordering him around, he refused to talk to Kid at all.
It was the same in Wano, Kid literally had to mock and tease him to get any sort of reaction out of him. Seems when Law holds a real grudge, it runs deep. But once he knows the person a bit better he can get over it. He just didn't have occassion for that with Kid before and also probably wasn't very interested in him either, before he learned Luffy friended him and basically dragged him to the raid as well. Surprise! So Law had to learn how to interact with him as well, and at first he wasn't exactly nice to him anyway, even dodging Kaido's attacks, uncaring that they will fly right towards Kid lol. By the end of their co-op fight against Big Mom Law grew a tiny bit fonder of Kid, I guess. Just a tiny bit.

When Law said that if Luffy doesn't win, Law needs to die with him. I believe he said this because Luffy was fighting Doflamingo for Law, just like he proclaimed enemy of WG because of Robin, and same way he proclaimed war with Big Mom because of Fish Island. Luffy doesn't leave his friends hanging, you basically give him food and he will sacrifice his life for you.
Basically in my perspective, Law felt an obligation to die with Luffy if he doesn't win so no more people will die for his sake and make him survivor. He can't handle that survivor guilt anymore, first his parents and sister, then Cora-san, if more people died because of him I feel like Law would struggle so much to remain alive.
